Cristine Reyes Fights Back Against Daughter’s Kidnappers

Cristine Reyes returns to acting and portrays the challenging role of a mother whose very own nail salon customer kidnapped and sold her daughter to a complete stranger in “Ipaglaban Mo.”

Despite being a single mother, Karen strived hard to provide for her daughter Angel. She worked as a nail specialist in a salon where she met Myla (Arlene Muhlach), a woman who was very fond of Angel. Myla liked Angel so much that she would even give Karen extra money so that she could buy what the little girl wanted.

One day, Myla convinced Karen to allow her to take Angel to the mall. Karen easily agreed since she trusted Myla very much. Hours later, however, the two had not come back and Myla and her daughter were nowhere to be found.

Where did Myla bring Angel? Would Karen be able to see her daughter again?

Joining this episode are Cris Villanueva, Raquel Monteza, Tart Carlos, and Jade Ecleo.

Don’t miss the “Takas” episode of “Ipaglaban Mo,” directed by Darnel Villaflor this Saturday (May 27) after “It’s Showtime” on ABS-CBN with a replay every Wednesday on DZMM TeleRadyo and DZMM Radyo Patrol 630.

Philippines to Host Miss Universe 2017

The Philippines has been offered the hosting rights to the next edition of the Miss Universe pageant this November, Department of Tourism (DOT) chair Wanda Teo revealed.

"Pinagaaralan pa namin iyan pero that's true, they are asking us to host it again this year," Teo told ABS-CBN News' Mario Dumaual.

The DOT chief shared that members of Miss Universe Organization were pleased with the job they did, especially since the pageant in Manila, they claimed, overshadowed the pre-events of the recent Super Bowl - one of the biggest sporting events in the US.

"Usually, number one iyan (Super Bowl) pero trending pa rin ang Miss Universe," she said, referring to the days after the pageant. "So they really want it badly here in the Philippines."

Should they accept, however, Teo said that her department will be pushing for more control over the event. "We want it na we would be the one controlling it," she said.

She also added that they, much like last time, will be looking for sponsors to shoulder the expenses.

The Philippines played host to the prestigious pageant last January. France's Iris Mittenaere won, succeeding Pia Wurtzbach.

The 2017 Miss Universe is scheduled for November. This year, the country will be fielding Filipino-British beauty queen Rachel Peters.

Arjo Atayde's Death Puts "FPJ: Ang Pronbinsyano" to Sky-Rocket TV Ratings

"Ang Probinsyano" continued to keep at bay rival show "Mulawin vs. Ravena" with episodes centering on the death of Joaquin (Arjo Atayde), the series' longtime baddie who killed off one of the major characters early on.

The cop drama drew a national television rating of 41.1%, 43.3%, 42.7% and 40.4% for its Monday to Thursday episodes, respectively. Both numbers were more than double that of GMA-7's newest fantasy series, according to Kantar Media.

The ratings were higher than the show's average for the whole of last year, which stood at 40 percent.

Many harbingers of doom have been speculating for quite some time that the prolonged storyline might prove to be a death knell for the show.

But there is very little evidence to suggest that, as a bumper number of viewers tuned in to witness the death of Joaquin, and with ABS-CBN renewing the serye until January 2018.

"Ang Probinsyano" is set to continue as Cardo tries to live a normal family life with now-wife Alyana while still pushing his war against corrupt police officials and big-time criminals.

Q&A with "My Love From The Star" Stars Jennylyn Mercado and Gil Cuerva, Premieres May 29 on GMA Telebabad

Being true to its promise of providing quality entertainment, GMA-7 brings its own adaptation of the well-loved South Korean series "My Love From The Star" starting Monday, May 29.

Starring Jennylyn Mercado and newcomer model/actor Gil Cuerva, "My Love from the Star" is a No.1 South Korean romantic/comedy/sci-fi series that showcases an extraordinary love story about two people coming from different worlds, and how love defies time and space. It's Tagalized version was also aired on GMA-7 early this year and became a nationwide hit that Kapuso Network decided to come up with its own local version.

Gist: Matteo Do (Gil Cuerva) is a cold-hearted alien who was accidentally left behind 400 years ago. Three months before he gets back to the star where he lives, he will meet Steffi Cheon (Jennylyn Mercado), a self-centered but lovable actress who makes him wish to just be an ordinary man. But he will try to keep himself away from her because if he will let go of his only chance to return to his star, he will die on Earth.

Q&A with "My Love from the Star" lead stars Jennylyn Mercado and Gil Cuerva:

Q: The role of Matteo Do was intended for Alden Richards, but GMA execs decided to award the role to him. Is he up for the challenge?
GC: At that time na nag-audition ako, may certain reservations ako, kasi walang assurance na makukuha ko ang role. But now, it's all been very worth it. Hopefully, this is something I do well.

Q: How did he prepare for the role knowing that he's new in the acting department?
GC: Na-culture shock ako nang konti. I guess, it's a different industry sa modeling. I have to make certain adjustments, certain sacrifices. Pero it's something I embrace and I'm ready for it.

I want to get good at acting para naman maganda ang reputation. I'll do my best to stay long because this is something that I want.

Q: Reports have it that his kissing scene with Jennylyn reached nine takes, who did it happen?
GC: Very particular kasi si Direk [Joyce Bernal]. Gusto niya ramdam na ramdam. Tapos may certain blocking po. Tapos, yung hinila ko si Jen, it was actually a lot harder to take.

I guess, a lot of nervousness came out and it took a lot of tries para mawala yun.

Q: While she admits that she's funny in real life, it will be the first time that Jennylyn will portray the role where she needs to make fun of her character.
‘Yung maraming hugot parati. Pero in real life, kengkoy ako.

Comedy naman ako this time.

Q: How is she making sure that she will fit correctly on the role of Steffi after her numerous heavy drama TV series in the past seven years?

Q: How does it feel working with newcomer Gil Cuerva?

Q: Did she give him tips, pointers on how to attack his role and make him comfortable on the set?

Performance-wise, okey naman si Gil. For a newcomer, nakakasabay na siya agad.

Part of being an actor in the business ang magkamali ka, kaya next time matatama mo na siya.

Q:

Replacing ALDUB's "Destined To Be Yours," "My Love from the Star" airs weeknights after "Mulawin vs. Ravena" on GMA Telebabad starting May 29.

Kris Bernal: "My sexy FHM cover is the most bashed photo I had in my showbiz career, but...."

Despite the below-the-belt tirades she got from online trolls regarding her FHM May 2017 cover photo, certified Kapuso star Kris Bernal opted to look at the brighter side as she begins taping for her upcoming teleserye "Impostora."

Immediately after signing another exclusive contract with GMA Network last March 7, Kris starts to work on several showbiz commitments.

During her 28th birthday celebration last March 18 at Karaoke Pop Family KTV in Cubao, Quezon City, where she treated selected members of the press and her loyal fans to a night of videoke sessions, Kris denied speculations that she had her boobs cosmetologically enhanced to achieve a sexy physique for the FHM shoot.

Siguro, for me, sometimes it’s just the angle, sometimes it’s just the type of clothes. And alam naman natin, for ladies, may mga power bras na. May mga sports bra na with padding. May mga bra na naka-attach na silicon” she said, adding, “It’s workout also. Kasi ako, I have a trainer. More on legs, more on hips, kasi kailangan ko magka-balakang, kasi maliit yung bewang ko. And, yun nga, yung chest.”

Asked for her message to bashers? Kris has this short and sweet message for them: “Huwag niyo po siguro i-judge yung appearance by the picture, Sabi ko nga, mas kilala ko naman ang sarili ko.

On the other hand, Kris also talked about her upcoming Afternoon Prime soap "Impostora" where she will be paired with Rafael Rosell and Ryan Eigenmann.

Impostora, based on the 1994 film "Sa Isang Sulok ng mga Pangarap" starring Alice Dixson, Tonton Gutierrez and Ariel Rivera, is a remake of Kapuso toprating 2007 series of the same title starringSunshine Dizon and Iza Calzado.

Ramon Bautista and Celebrity Brothers Troy and KC Montero Featured in SKY Alive! and Discovery Channel Cebu Mall Tour

Celebrity brothers Troy and KC Montero make SKY Alive! mall tour’s SM City Cebu leg (May 26 – 28) extra exciting as they drop by on May 26-27 to promote their TV comeback, the new Discovery Channel series, "Worst Vacation Ever.”

SKY Alive! is SKY Cable’s experiential family cable fair mall tour that allows Filipinos to step into the world of their favorite cable shows and meet famous TV celebrities and characters.

Cebuanos will get to meet and greet the brothers as they introduce their new show where they recreate an itinerary based on horror vacation stories found on the internet. Troy, KC, and their team make things challenging on their trip like ruining their travel budget and even surprising each other with side-adventures based on their phobias and pet peeves.

KC and I do agree on a lot of things, but we also have our own fears. The team is also always on the lookout for interesting, but terrible stories that could use our special touch. I’m just a bit scared it’s only going to get worse before it gets better, and that’s a great thing for us,” Troy explained.

Joining the brothers is online sensation Ramon Bautista who hosts “You Have Been Warned Asia,” an out of the box pop-science show he does with Jun Sabayton, Lourd De Veyra, RA Rivera, and Angel Rivero.

The show features viral videos of people doing crazy, funny, and mind blowing things while Ramon and his squad provide amusing and witty commentary as they attempt to explain the science behind the viral video.

Our show is a great way to engage people into the often inaccessible realm of science,” Ramon said.

He added, “the show is like vegetables wrapped in chocolate so children would eat more of the healthy stuff. They might absorb more of the sweets, but somehow they will get some nutritious stuff in the process.

For Ramon, one of his favorite viral videos that they deconstructed in the show was a man who created a gatling gun made out of things in his garage.

I think that video was creative, cool, and a brilliant application of science. It pretty much embodies that anyone with a mastery of science will live an awesome life,” Ramon said.

Ramon, Jun, RA, and Angel will all be at SKY Alive! on May 28 to challenge Cebuanos for a bottle flip one minute challenge.

There’s more from Discovery Networks’ suite of channels! Apart from meeting celebrities from Discovery Channel, families can also decorate their own cupcakes or stack cakes inspired by TLC’s hit show, “Cake Boss;” enjoy a close encounter with animals based on popular programs from Animal Planet, and sing their hearts out at the videoke booth of “Worst Vacation Ever.”

SKY’s array of products including One SKY, SKYdirect, SKYmobi, SKY On Demand, and SKYbiz will be showcased and will also be adding fun and excitement at SKY Alive!.

Discovery’s “Worst Vacation Ever” and “You Have Been Warned Asia” will both premiere in August. Discovery Channel is available on SKY Cable ch. 39, while TLC is on SKY Cable ch. 62, and Animal Planet is on SKY Cable ch. 40. Discovery, TLC, and Animal Planet are available on One SKY Premium plans (all-in unlimited internet, HD cable TV, and mobile internet postpaid plans).

SKY Cable Corporation is the first to introduce cable television to Filipinos in 1990. Since then, it has been a frontrunner in technology and cable TV content by being the first to design a highly customized viewing experience among subscribers, and offering the most number of HD channels. Aside from pay TV brand SKYdirect, SKY’s other offerings include SKYcable, One SKY Premium (unlimited internet all-in bundles), One SKY Lite (consumable internet all-in bundles), SKYmobi (mobile internet), and SKY On Demand (video-on-demand). The list of small steps which we can do is endless, our days are full of opportunities to do these and Watsons can be their partner to improve their health" adds Encarnacion.

Typically, a person with Type 1 diabetes treats the disease by taking insulin injections. Through insulin injection, glucose can now be brought to the body's cells. Kapuso Young Actor Mikoy Morales Admits He's Gay, In Love with Starstruck Prince Elyson de Dios

In his recent blogger's conference/launch of his latest single "Sana" under GMA Records,  Kapuso young actor/singer Mikoy Morales was asked  about his gay role as Tim on D' Originals.

Aniya, "It's fun playing a gay role again. I said yes to the role because unlike other gay roles, hindi ito 'yung slapstick na may masabi lang na nakakatawang beki. Pumayag ako kasi in-depth 'yung pagtrato sa character namin."

Pinuri rin niya ang direktor ng D' Originals na si Direk Adolf Alix Jr, "Sobrang enjoy kasi I get to work with Direk Adolf again kasi ngayon ko lang siya nakatrabaho sa soap, dati sa film na 'Four Days.' It's really a privilege and luxury kasi iba mag-direct si Direk Adolf. Isa siya sa mga unang direktor na nagtiwala talaga sa'kin tsaka mas nalalabas ko 'yung kaya kong ibigay."

Dito sa D' Originals, katambal niya ang up-and-coming Kapuso cutie na si Elyson de Dios. Kamusta naman kaya ang working relations nilang dalawa?

"Madaling kiligin sa kaniya kasi ang cute niya 'pag nagta-Tagalog siya kasi Bisaya siya so may punto siya [laughs]. Madali siyang sakyan and sobrang game siya. 'Nung first day nang taping, sinabi ko sa kaniya na 'Sabihin mo sa'kin 'pag naiilang ka pero lalandiin kita," masayang sagot ni Mikoy.

Abangan ang nakakakilig na tambalan nina Mikoy at Elyson o #MikSon bawat hapon sa D' Originals.

ABS-CBN Earns P9.6B Revenue for 1Q 2017

ABS-CBN Corporation, the country's leading media and entertainment company, reported P9.6 billion consolidated revenue for the first three months of 2017.

ABS-CBN's consumer sales grew by 10% to P4.7 billion while its first quarter airtime revenues were 13% lower compared to the same period last year.

ABS-CBN Chief Financial Officer Aldrin Cerrado said they did not expect a significant growth in earnings during the first quarter given the strong performance of the first quarter of last year.

He added, "First quarter earnings tend to be lower than the subsequent quarters due to the cyclicality of advertising placements."

Meanwhile, Cerrado said they managed to reduce overall costs and expenses during the first quarter.

"We expect costs to go down further as we replace some of the higher cost programs which were carried over from last year," he said.

"We remain confident that we will meet our earnings target of P3.0 billion for the year," added Cerrado.

Based on Kantar Media TV Audience Measurement, ABS-CBN continues to dominate the national TV ratings with an overall audience share of 51.1% during the first quarter. ABS-CBN channels filled the Top 10 highest rating programs. The primetime lead in March 2017 was sustained by its top rating program and long running teleserye – "FPJ's Ang Probinsyano."

Star Cinema also generated close to P600 million from four movies released during the quarter. "My Ex and Whys," which was released last February, brought in about P300 million in ticket sales.

As of end March 2017, total assets and equity stood at P71.6 billion and P31.0 billion, respectively.

Ron Valdueza, ABS-CBN's Group CFO stated: "Sky saw an 11% growth in revenues to P2.3 billion driven by the continued increase in its broadband and DTH subscribers." As of end March 2017, Sky had 672,000 cable subscribers, 161,000 DTH subscribers, and 205,000 broadband subscribers.

"The strong growth in our broadband subscriber base, which has doubled in two years, should continue as we invest in expanding our network," added Valdueza.

Valdueza said he is happy with the progress of the DTT initiative as they ended the last quarter with 2.7 million boxes sold since the service was launched in 2015.

Kidzania, the company's educational theme park, also welcomed over 77,000 visitors since the beginning of the year, while the O Shopping Channel generated P240 million in sales of various products for the first three months of 2017.

PhilRatings has also maintained the highest credit rating for ABS-CBN's outstanding bonds. PhilRatings assigned a PRS Aaa Issue Credit Rating for the P6.0 billion outstanding ABS-CBN bonds with a Stable Outlook.
