Mang Inasal Releases #SolbAngBuhay, a Digital Short Film on Self-love Starring Carlo Aquino and Angelica Panganiban

Leading Pinoy restaurant chain Mang Inasal has recently produced a thought-provoking, bittersweet digital short film. Helmed by ace director Dan Villegas, the Mang Inasal digital film stars versatile actors and onscreen partners Carlo Aquino and Angelica Panganiban.

In the three-minute digital short, Mang Inasal and its creative agency DDB Philippines wanted to capture a very contemporary view on romance and relationships - in a way that only Villegas and "CarGel" can deliver spot on.

Dubbed #SolbAngBuhay, the CarGel video ushers viewers to the affectionate relationship between the characters portrayed by Carlo and Angelica. Both are happy and fulfilled by being together and are completely "solb" (fully satisfied) with the life they share.

The first half of the video showcases the engaging chemistry of the couple as portrayed by CarGel, including their most kilig moments - playfully washing the dishes, texting sweet messages to each other, and sharing their love for Mang Inasal Chicken Inasal. Their characters express what they think about each other, and how one cannot live without the other.

The popular song, "Sana," of folk artist, I Belong to the Zoo, complements the digital film's romantic narrative, specially as the couple is shown having a misunderstanding, with Carlo trying his best to comfort a crying Angelica. They part ways, in tears. This is followed by a montage of the characters doing their favorite things by themselves. The twist at the end lays the truth that the two are no longer together.

But even with a tinge of sadness, the couple still manage to be happy. As the two are shown eating in a Mang Inasal store by their lonesome, a loving moment that they used to share together, they seem to be contented eating alone by themselves.

This is where Mang Inasal's self-assuring message that "one can still be happy regardless of one's relationship status." In reality, relationships end even between two people who seem to be perfect for each other.  And when it does, the important thing is to know that life does not end there. People will eventually be okay, and that it is okay to be single, that it is okay to love yourself.

The closing line goes: "Kahit single, in a relationship, or it's complicated, solb pa rin ang buhay 'di ba? (Whether you're single, in a relationship, or 'it's complicated, you can still enjoy life to the fullest)."

"The film feels very real, as everyone does experience heartbreak once in a while. It's our post-Valentine treat to our customers and CarGel fans, where we want to show the other side of love, where you don't have to be in a relationship with anybody to be happy. We want to tell everyone that there is such a thing called 'self-love,' and this is the most potent of all kinds of love. It inspires one to discover happiness within, against trying to find it in someone else," said Mang Inasal Marketing Director Michael Dumaual.

The digital short is a reunion for Angelica, Carlo and Direk Dan, coming off from the highly successful romantic drama "Exes Baggage."

During the 90s, Carlo and Angelica were child stars who made names for themselves for their superb acting and talent. They were paired in many television shows and films until they became real life lovers. The two eventually ended their relationship and went their separate ways, pursuing their own careers in showbiz. But Exes Baggage reignited the comeback of the CarGel loveteam. To date, many fans still root for the couple, who now star in ABS-CBN's "Playhouse."

With this digital film's release last February 25, Dan Villegas continues his streak of tearjerkers like "Never Not Love You," "All of You," and "The Breakup Playlist." Villegas was the award-winning force behind "Hintayan ng Langit" and highly successful TV drama series "On The Wings of Love" and "Till I Met You."

McJim’s Newest Viral Short Film “The Bully” Zeroes in on the Pathetic Plight of Bullying Victims

Nearly two decades into the new millennium, the age-old problem of bullying remains to be a cause for concern among school authorities and parents of bullied children, mainly because most cases take place in the campus. For some reason, however, such incidents have been largely kept unreported until a fairly recent bullying incident broke out and went viral on social media, creating quite a ruckus among netizens.

Bullying, in fact, is an issue that is hiding in plain sight. According to the United Nations’ 2018 report, one in three children worldwide experience some form of bullying, a disturbing fact we must confront if we resolve to find a long-term solution to the problem.

This is the central theme of McJim Classic Leather’s newest viral short film titled “The Bully,” which zeroes in on the pathetic plight of bullying victims.

Directed by award-winning filmmaker Chris Cahilig, it tells the story of Ramon Christian Galvez (played by Jordan “Jay” Castillo, Jr.), an anti-bullying advocate who returns to his alma mater to give a talk on bullying. This rouses memories of the character’s own disquieting past—visions that continue to haunt him to this day.

With ‘The Bully,’ McJim comes up with yet another compelling and socially relevant short film that tackles issues we need to talk about as a humane and progressive society,” says Cahilig, who is also behind McJim’s previous award-winning shorts “Pitaka,” “Sinturon,” “Bag,” and “No Strings Attached.”

Once again, McJim proves to be more than just a lifestyle brand as it strives to stay relevant in this day and age. It does so rather convincingly as it takes on another critical advocacy: anti-bullying,” Cahilig says of McJim and its newest short film, which, the director promises, will get viewers hooked until the end - all for a good cause.

‘The Bully’ is a heart-rending but essential watch for people of all ages. Bullying is real. If we persist in glossing over the issue, we will do a disservice to scores of bullying victims and to the values that we hold dear,” Cahilig asserts.

He likewise counsels the youth. “If you are a victim of, or a witness to, bullying, don’t keep quiet. Talk about it and ask for help.”

“The Bully” comes at a time when issues concerning child abuse are coming to the fore. The short film also has worthy precedents. “Pitaka” was hailed as the Best Branded Digital Ad at the 40th  Catholic Mass Media Awards, and the Best Illustrated Poem at the 2018 Wales International Film Festival. “No Strings Attached,” meanwhile, bagged the Best Social Shorts award at the Liverpool International Film Festival 2018 in the United Kingdom.

Prior to “The Bully,” McJim earned praises for its first LGBT-themed short filmed “Bag” for its honest portrayal of a gay-straight friendship - a bold and unconventional move for a masculine brand like McJim.

“The Bully” and other McJim short films can be viewed on McJim’s official Facebook page,  https://www.facebook.com/OfficialMcJIM/.

“The Bully” was crafted by a team led by Yuji Gonzales (screenplay), Patrick Ferrer  (cinematography), Paulo Luneta (editor), Kenneth Amparo (online vfx and color), Jordan Castillo, Jr. (assistant director), Kat Salinas (sound design), Richard Gonzales (scoring), Johanna Evangelista (production manager), and Christian Paul Mendoza (production coordinator). It also stars Adrian Cabido, RJ Perkins, Gold Azeron, Allen Ansay, Sheryl Pasia, and Johanna Evangelista.

For generations now, McJim Classic Leather has been the leading and trusted brand for classic leather goods and accessories of superior quality and design.

MEGA Sardines’ #MegaGandaAngBuhay Short Film “First Day” Delivers a Mega Dose of Kilig this Love Month

Do you still remember your first day at your very first job?

In the wake of its first two viral videos “Adulting” and “Tipidity,” MEGA Sardines, the Number 1 sardines brand in the Philippines, treads lightly into 2019 with “First Day,” its third short film under its

#MegaGandaAngBuhay Trilogy.

“First Day” tells the story of Joseph, an idealistic, fresh-out-of-college young man from Cebu (played
by Jindric Macapagal) who is caught in an awkward situation on his first day at work in a Makati office.

What could go wrong—or right—on Day 1?

‘First Day’ reveals the answer in an unexpected and heartwarming manner, delivering a mega dose of ‘kilig’ on a hugely relatable slice of life,” says film director and public relations specialist Chris Cahilig.

As shown in its first two short films, the MEGA Sardines’ #MegaGandaAngBuhay campaign, Cahilig points out, reinforces timeless Filipino themes and values. While “Tipidity” brought humor and “Adulting” delivered drama, “First Day,” the third and last film in the trilogy, offers lighthearted
moments and wraps up with a plot twist that the audience won’t see coming.

Whether at work or at home, there’s very little doubt that intriguing conversations—and   relationships—can be sparked by delectable comfort food,” Cahilig hints at what’s coming.

However one looks at it, “First Day” fits right into the #MegaGandaAngBuhay campaign by depicting how MEGA Sardines, as a staple viand, has fortuitously figured in the unforgettable “firsts” of its Filipino patrons.

“First Day” was made possible by Tiu Lim Foundation (executive producer), Rommel Sales (cinematography), Yuji Gonzales (screenplay), Jegs Morales (offline editor), Kenneth Amparo (online

“Aquaman” Hits Major Milestone with $800 Million at the International Box Office

Warner Bros. Pictures' "Aquaman" has hit new heights at the international box office, with tickets pushing the DC Super Hero past the $800 million mark.  The announcement was made February 19 by the head of Warner Bros. Pictures International Distribution, Tom Molter.

The impressive box office run overseas has propelled the film to become the highest grossing DC title ever both globally and internationally, as well as in 36 territories, including the Philippines (at Php 582-million), China, Spain, Brazil and Taiwan.

"Aquaman" is already the second-highest grossing Warner Bros. title internationally, behind only "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2," and also stands as Warner Bros.' biggest earner in 24 international markets, including the Philippines, China, Brazil, Indonesia, Taiwan and the UAE.  The benchmark international number also drives the global box office figure to $1.13 billion and counting.

Industry-wide in the Philippines, "Aquaman" ranks as the eighth overall biggest grossing film ever in PH history, including both local and foreign titles.

Molter stated, "'Aquaman' began its journey in China and has made its way around the globe through every major international market, most recently landing in Japan in early February to great success.  Its remarkable box office throughout the world is a measure of the film's ability to entertain across cultures and in every language, and we congratulate James Wan, Jason Momoa and the entire team for creating such a hugely entertaining cinematic experience for audiences everywhere."

From Warner Bros. Pictures and director James Wan comes "Aquaman," the origin story of half-surface dweller, half-Atlantean Arthur Curry that takes him on the journey of his lifetime - one that will not only force him to face who he really is, but to discover if he is worthy of who he was born to be…a king.  The action-packed adventure spans the vast, visually breathtaking underwater world of the seven seas, and stars Jason Momoa in the title role.

The film also stars Amber Heard as Mera, a fierce warrior and Aquaman's ally throughout his journey; Oscar nominee Willem Dafoe ("The Florida Project") as Vulko, council to the Atlantean throne; Patrick Wilson as Orm, the present King of Atlantis; Dolph Lundgren as Nereus, King of the Atlantean tribe Xebel; Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as the revenge-seeking Black Manta; and Oscar winner Nicole Kidman ("The Hours") as Arthur's mom, Atlanna.  Also featured are Ludi Lin as Captain Murk, an Atlantean Commando, and Temuera Morrison as Arthur's dad, Tom Curry.

Wan directed from a screenplay by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick and Will Beall, story by Geoff Johns & James Wan and Will Beall, based on characters created by Paul Norris and Mort Weisinger for DC.  The film was produced by Peter Safran and Rob Cowan, with Deborah Snyder, Zack Snyder, Jon Berg, Geoff Johns and Walter Hamada serving as executive producers.

Warner Bros. Pictures Presents a Peter Safran Production, a James Wan Film, "Aquaman."  The film has been released in 3D and 2D and IMAX, and is distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures.

Memories Lead to Regrets in the LizQuen Movie “Alone/Together,” Now Showing in Theaters Worldwide via TFC at the Movies

People do not always make the right decisions in their lives, and often this leads to life's "what ifs" or simply called regret.

In one of Eric Jackson's articles published in Forbes online, he has written about "The 25 Biggest Regrets in Life. What are Yours?" and fifth on his list is "breaking up with my true love/getting dumped by them". Jackson said that "romance is a big area of regret for most of us…It is tough to simply be happy with the love that you've found and takes away from the special moments you have today, if you're constantly thinking back to what you once had."

This kind of regret is the theme of ABS-CBN Films Black Sheep's latest movie offering, "Alone/Together", which stars one of the most-followed loveteams in the Philippines today, Enrique Gil and Liza Soberano, that is written and directed by Antoinette Jadaone.

"Alone/Together" is the story of college sweethearts Raf (Gil) and Christine (Soberano), whose paths will take a different turn that lead them to the biggest regrets in their lives.

Aside from the intriguing story of Raf andChristine, Jadaone also noted how the two stars' individual characters tackled the "disillusionment" that some graduates feel upon facing the real world—a familiar situation to some overseas Filipinos.

"When you're in college, you feel na you can change the world. But we find college graduates become disillusioned when they face the real world, so 'yon 'yong tackled sa movie--they are in that period in their lives. Ibang-iba ka na no'ng college ka sa ngayon, iba 'yong taong pinangarap mo maging kaysa sa taong naging ikaw (When you're in college, you feel that you can change the world. But we find college graduates become disillusioned when they face the real world, that is what the movie tackles—they are in that period in their lives. You are different from who you were in college, from who you dreamed you will become, to who you have become)," Jadaone explained.

Will Christine and Raf live forever with regrets or will they get the chance to turn things around?

VIVA International Pictures Releases “Serenity” Starring Anne Hathaway and Matthew McConaughey

VIVA International Pictures and MVP Entertainment proudly present "Serenity", a film filled with thought-provoking scenes that will give its viewers more sense of mystery than serenity.

Matthew McConaughey (Academy Award Best Actor for Dallas Buyers Club) plays Baker Dill, a fishing boat captain leading a quiet life in Plymouth Island until his ex-wife Karen shows up with what Matthew has described in an interview as "a very indecent proposal" .

Karen, played by Anne Hathaway (Academy Award Best Supporting Actress for Les Miserables), is now married to a multi-millionaire named Frank, played by Jason Clarke (Zero Dark Thirty, Terminator Genisys).

Talking about her character, Hathaway says that she's "in a desperate situation" because she is "trapped in a toxic and abusive marriage".   She wants Baker to get rid of Frank by taking him out on a fishing tour and dropping him in the ocean for the sharks.

Hathaway reveals that she and Baker "got together when Karen was quite young".  They had a child, but he went to war and it tore their family apart.  "And so she has to figure out what she's gonna do, being a single mom.  She finds this guy (Frank) who kinda reminds her of Dill.  He likes to fish. She starts to think like maybe she can build a life with him, and then he turns out to be her worst nightmare come true."

Baker, who is now romancing Constance, a moneyed beauty of Plymouth Island, played by Diane Lane (Academy Award nominee for Unfaithful), is still trying to move on from his troubled past.  But can he truly turn his back on his ex-wife?  What will it take for him to forget about his conscience and help her out?

Director Steven Knight (Lock, Redemption), who also wrote the screenplay, attests that "Matthew is the best there is" when it comes to playing Baker Dill.  He explains that the character "doesn't give of himself too readily, someone who's closed in and I thought that was Matthew.  Because of the nature of the twist I want beautiful people…and he's also beautiful."   As a writer, two of Knight's best known works are Seventh Son andThe Girl in the Spider's Web.

Serenity is McConaughey and Hathaway's second movie together.  The first was Interstellar in 2014.

Asked what drew them to do this movie, Matthew replies, "I saw a character that I could be very personal with, really find an identity that I can understand."  It's also a well-written story, plus Knight is a writer/director that he trusts.

Hathaway agrees with McConaughey about the story being creative and extraordinary. "I got half-way through (reading) and I have no idea what's going on, but I'm completely in and I just let it carry me away.  And I wind up in a place that was very different than I thought it was going to, but it was a place of feeling and intelligence and soulfulness."

Serenity was filmed in Mauritius, an island in the Indian Ocean off the southeast coast of Africa.  It opens in cinemas on February 13.

SECOND ACT is the story of Maya (Lopez), a 40-year-old woman struggling with frustrations stemming from her unfulfilled dreams.
