“Running Man” Korean Singer Lee Chae-Yon Topbills Korean Horror “Mongdal”

"RUNNING MAN" KOREAN SINGER LEE CHAE-YON TOPBILLS KOREAN HORROR "MONGDAL"

Lee Chae-Yeon, from the hit Korean variety show "Running Man," stars in "Mongdal," the final offering of the first season of HBO's horror anthology, "Folklore."

In "Mongdal," Chae-Yeon plays Ok-Bin, a loving mother and a strict school principal to her son, Dong-Joo, who has anger management issues. Knowing her son's situation, she tries to understand his moods and gives in to his demands.

All is well for the two until her son falls deeply in love with the new girl in school. He is determined to get the girl - even if it is against her will.

Up to what extent will Ok-Bin do in order to make her son happy? What is the significance of the bachelor ghost or popularly known as a Mongdal in the story?

Lee Chae-Yeon was the episode's director Lee Sang-Woo's only choice for the leading role because he saw in her the star quality that set her apart from the other actresses in their initial choices.

Episodes are helmed by different directors from various Asian countries, and are filmed in the local language of the country that the episode is based in.

Watch "Mongdal" on November 10, 10PM on HBO Ch. 54 SD/Ch. 168 HD (For Metro Manila, Cavite, Laguna, Bulacan, Lipa-Batangas) or on Ch. 402 SD/710 HD (For Bacolod, Baguio, Cebu, Davao, Dumaguete, General Santos, Iloilo). A Perilous Journey Beckons in R-Rated Film “Bad Times at the El Royale”

Stars collide in the upcoming R-rated intense crime drama "Bad Times at the El Royale" featuring the director's (Drew Goddard) dream cast composed of Academy Award®-winner Jeff Bridges (Crazy Heart), Tony® Award-winner Cynthia Erivo (Broadway's The Color Purple), Dakota Johnson (Fifty Shades trilogy), Emmy® Award-winner Jon Hamm (Mad Men), Cailee Spaeny (Pacific Rim: Uprising), Lewis Pullman (Battle of the Sexes), and  Chris Hemsworth (Avengers: Infinity War).

In "Bad Times at the El Royale",  seven very different but equally lost souls converge on the El Royale, a once-glorious resort that has since fallen—like its visitors—into disrepute. Situated on the border between California and Nevada, the El Royale offers warmth and sunshine to the west; hope and opportunity to the east. It also straddles the colliding worlds of past and present. Once the hotspot of Tahoe, where the country's most famous celebrities and politicians comingled in and around the resort's casino, bar, bungalows and pool, the good times have now come to a close.

At the El Royale, where the shine has faded from its lobby and the laughter fallen silent, gather Father Daniel Flynn (Bridges), soul singer Darlene Sweet (Erivo), traveling salesman Laramie Seymour Sullivan (Hamm), hippie Emily Summerspring (Johnson), her sister Rose (Spaeny), manager Miles Miller (Pullman) and the enigmatic Billy Lee (Hemsworth).  Over the course of one fateful night, everyone will have a last shot at redemption… before everything goes to hell.

"I wanted to work with my dream cast," says writer-director Drew Goddard, "so I knew I had to create a document that would attract them. I had moments where I would look at Jeff and Cynthia and Chris, Jon, Dakota, just sit and look at all these heavyweights and think, how did I get here? I don't understand how I got to be so lucky. It was never lost on me how special it was."

Bad Times at the El Royale, says Goddard, "was very much the definition of a passion project. I wrote it for myself. I'd been working on a lot of big-budget films (The Martian, World War Z), things that had a lot of pre-vis and complicated visual effects, and I was complaining to my wife one night.  So I challenged myself to create a construct where you have several people in a confined space. How do you make that interesting? How do you turn the story even though most of it takes place in the same location? How do you change that location over the course of one night? All these questions make it hard but really fun to write. And also I just love hotels. I love how they are this place where people come together for a very brief period of time and have these encounters. I wanted to explore this idea that one night in one hotel can change everyone's life."

Rated R-16 by the MTRCB, "Bad Times at the El Royale" opens November 21 in cinemas from 20th Century Fox.

Meet the Regents of “The Four Realms” in “ The Nutcracker”

The filmmakers behind Disney's "The Nutcracker and the Fourth Realm" relished the idea of reinventing a time-honored story.

Based on E.T.A. Hoffmann's classic tale and "The Nutcracker," "The Nutcracker and the Four Realms" showcases the wondrous journey of Clara, who finds herself in the mystical world of the Four Realms, home to a host of eccentric characters and no shortage of surprises.

Foremost of these characters are the Regents of the Four Realms -- the Sugar Plum Fairy, Mother Ginger, Hawthorne and Shiver.  Let's get to know them better!

SUGAR PLUM FAIRY is the beloved regent of the Land of Sweets, the yummiest of the realms with its gingerbread architecture and gum drop décor. Elegant, ethereal and naturally sweet, Sugar Plum wears a gown that sparkles like crystalized sugar. She welcomes Clara to the Four Realms with open arms, declaring her the guest of honor at an extravagant pageant. Clara's mother, Marie, was once Sugar Plum's dearest friend, so Clara is family.

"Sugar Plum is the personification of femininity," says Keira Knightley, who portrays the character. "I like to do a lot of research, so I started with the actual music of the Sugar Plum Fairy, which led to her laugh. I later found her high-pitched, girly voice that has two sides to it: pristine femininity and at the same time, quite assertive."

MOTHER GINGER, leader of the dark and ominous Fourth Realm, is feared by all who inhabit the other realms. She once presided over the beloved Land of Amusements, a place of wisdom and entertainment, but a fierce dispute among the regents led to her banishment and her realm became a forgotten fairground with an abandoned carousel and wayward polichinelles. Mother Ginger sports fiery red hair and a face that's chipped and cracked like a broken doll, a look that surely underscores her reputation as an evil tyrant.

Helen Mirren fills Mother Ginger's shoes. "She is a very wise character - she has great insight," says Hallström. "Helen Mirren has the authority and intelligence to play a character like that. She's so smart and she's funny."

HAWTHORNE is the emotional and flamboyant regent of Land of Flowers, a fragrant and colorful realm with windmills, emerald foliage and blooms abound. Always smiling and filled with enthusiasm, Hawthorne heartily embraces celebration and pageantry. But he tends to shy away from conflict and often finds himself overshadowed by his fellow regents. He worries about the instability that threatens the realms - though he's quick to set his concerns aside when Clara arrives. In fact, Hawthorne is the first to react - bursting with unbridled excitement, much to the chagrin of the more reserved Shiver and Sugar Plum.

According to Eugenio Derbez, who plays Hawthorne, the look of the character leaves no mystery as to which realm he oversees. "I'm like a walking bouquet," says Derbez. "I'm covered in flowers! It took two hours in the makeup chair each day to complete the look because they had to strategically place a lot of small detailed flowers on my face.

SHIVER is the regent of Land of Snowflakes, a stunning winter wonderland with ice castles and alpine villages set against a white-peaked mountain backdrop. Shiver is a well-mannered gentleman who's concerned with the future of the realms and nervous to a fault, Shiver wrings his hands with angst and uncertainty. He might come off as serious and unengaging - some would say cold - but Shiver is quite friendly underneath all of that frost.

Richard E. Grant was called on to portray Shiver. "I have snowflakes all over my face," says Grant. "My beard is made of icicles, I have a 19th-century wig with icicles coming out of my head, and my fingernails are very long icicles, too. Jenny Beavan's extraordinary costume design, combined with Jenny Shircore's brilliant icicle make-up and wig design, instantly conjured up a severe looking, Arctic regent, obsessed with preserving his snowy realm from being changed or destroyed by evil forces. Shiver is willing to risk everything to support and protect Clara."

"The Nutcracker and the Four Realms" is now playing in Philippine cinemas nationwide.

About "The Nutcracker and the Four Realms"

All Clara (Mackenzie Foy) wants is a key – a one-of-a-kind key that will unlock a box that holds a priceless gift. A golden thread, presented to her at godfather Drosselmeyer's (Morgan Freeman) annual holiday party, leads her to the coveted key - which promptly disappears into a strange and mysterious parallel world. It's there that Clara encounters a soldier named Phillip (Jayden Fowora-Knight), a gang of mice and the regents who preside over three Realms: Land of Snowflakes, Land of Flowers and Land of Sweets. Clara and Phillip must brave the ominous Fourth Realm, home to the tyrant Mother Ginger (Helen Mirren), to retrieve Clara's key and hopefully return harmony to the unstable world. Starring Keira Knightley as the Sugar Plum Fairy, Disney's new holiday feature film "The Nutcracker and the Four Realms" is directed by Lasse Hallström and Joe Johnston, and inspired by E.T.A. Hoffmann's classic tale.

Netflix Rings in the Holiday Celebrations with "The Christmas Chronicles"

The Christmas Chronicles a holiday adventure from producer Chris Columbus (“Home Alone”, "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone") and director Clay Kaytis ("The Angry Birds Movie"), tells the story of sister and brother, Kate (Darby Camp) and Teddy Pierce (Judah Lewis), whose Christmas Eve plan to catch Santa Claus (Kurt Russell) on camera turns into an unexpected journey that most kids could only dream about. After staking out Santa’s arrival, they sneak into his sleigh, cause it to crash and nearly derail Christmas. As their wild night unfolds, Kate and Teddy work together with Santa - as you've never seen him before - and his loyal Elves to save Christmas before it's too late.

Director Clay Kaytis: "No one is better suited than Kurt Russell to bring our version of a rugged, charismatic, and hilarious Santa Claus to life. It has been a dream come true to work with Kurt in creating what I believe will be the new definition of Santa Claus for generations to come."

Producer Chris Columbus: “Kurt is the definitive Santa Claus. Charismatic, tough when needed with a wicked sense of humor. We’re really excited for audiences to see his performance onscreen and hope The Christmas Chronicles becomes a timeless classic.”
