Ian Veneracion, ASCOF and Wish 107.5 Bring Music, Kilig and More at Early Father's Day Roadshow

The heavy downpour didn’t stop enthusiastic fans from trooping to Eton Centris Walk in Quezon City last Friday, June 8. Not when veteran actor and ASCOF brand ambassador Ian Veneracion was slated to perform at an early Father’s Day roadshow mounted by the country’s no. 1 natural cough remedy, ASCOF Lagundi, and hit FM radio station Wish 107.5.

While awaiting Veneracion’s guest appearance at 7 p.m., members of the audience who showed up at the venue as early as 4 p.m. happily participated in assorted games and surprises prepared by ASCOF Forte Menthol Syrup and Wish 107.5. These included Wish’s free videoke caravan where fans took turns doing covers of their favorite songs and ASCOF’s “Who’s Your Cough Character” video booth.

Inspired by ASCOF’s viral digital ad, the video booth had participants gamely acting out the most imaginative portrayal of their “Cough Character” - or how they would cough while role-playing as “The Maldita,” “Ang Inaapi,” “The Social Media Savvy,” and “The Beauty Queen,” among others. Three lucky participants also got the chance to meet and greet Ian Veneracion right inside the Wish 107.5 Bus.

At his guest gig, Ian and his 17-year-old daughter Deirdre gave a special performance of the song “When Nights Are Longer”. When DJs asked the father-and-daughter tandem how they spend quality time together, Ian readily revealed that he and his children usually bond over music or adventure sports like paragliding.

Ian Veneracion’s 17-year-old daughter Deirdre joins her father in entertaining scores of fans,
mallgoers, and music enthusiasts during Wish 107.5 and ASCOF’s early Father’s Day roadshow.

It is my children who personally validate my view of what success truly is. Seeing them grow and evolve into mature, responsible, and grounded individuals is the best affirmation of all,” the actor said in an interview.

Among the different ‘roles’ I play, being a father is what I do best. But I can only effectively fulfill that role when I keep myself healthy, especially during the wet season when common afflictions like cough are prevalent.

Asked about his health and fitness regimen, Ian shared that he maintains a healthy lifestyle by engaging in physical activities, having a balanced diet, and getting enough rest and sleep.

During his special guesting at Wish 107.5, actor and father Ian Veneracion highlights the
importance of taking a natural and organic cough remedy like ASCOF Forte Menthol Syrup at the onset of cough.

However, Ian avers that at the first sign of a cough, he chooses to use a natural remedy like ASCOF Forte Menthol Syrup because of its “hagod-menthol” soothing effect that helps ease coughing that comes with a sore and itchy throat.

When Ascof offered me the chance to endorse it, I told myself, ‘Perfect! After all, it’s something that I personally use,” Ian said. “I bring it with me most of the time and I take it at once when I have cough, especially during shootings and tapings. I trust ASCOF Forte Menthol Syrup because it’s made from 100 percent organically grown Lagundi leaves, making it safe and effective,” Ian added.

Among those who attended the on-ground event were members of Ian Veneracion’s fans club—both young and old - who got to hug and take groufies and selfies with their idol when he alighted from the Wish Bus.

We at ASCOF and PascualLab would like to thank everyone for taking time out from their schedules and dropping by Centris Walk last Friday to attend our early Father’s Day roadshow with Ian Veneracion. We enjoin you to observe healthful practices this rainy season, such as taking ASCOF Forte Menthol Syrup at the onset of a cough,” said ASCOF brand manager Alan Levi Farinas.

WISHful 5 All Set for the "Wishful Journey" Album Concert at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum

Rising singers Princess Sevillena, Kimberly Baluzo, Louie Anne Culala, Carmela Ariola, and Ace Bartolome return to the Smart-Araneta Coliseum on Tuesday (June 19) for their much-awaited “Wishful Journey” concert – their first major project as bonafide recording artists since their online singing competition stint on Wish 107.5.

The event coincides with the unveiling of their debut album as the Wishful 5, released under Star Music and is composed of 18 original and revival tracks.

The five belters were the top contenders of “Wishcovery: Your Road to Stardom Starts Here,” the online singing competition of Wish 107.5 that aired on the radio station’s YouTube channel from September 2017 until March 2018.

All five have secured an exclusive two-year recording contract with Star Music, and a five-year management deal with Breakthrough and Milestones Productions International, the content provider for Wish 107.5.

Never did I imagine that all these would happen to me in just a year - winning a huge contest, having my first album, and launching it at the Big Dome. The pressure is naturally there, but I believe that people will enjoy what we’ve prepared. We just need to focus on one goal: To make them happy,” shared the “Wishcovery” grand winner Princess.

Apart from the five young artists, Pop Rock Royalty Yeng Constantino, Asia’s Phoenix Morissette, R&B Prince Kris Lawrence, R&B heartthrob Daryl Ong, and “Pilipinas Got Talent” Season 6 grand winner Kristel De Catalina will also perform as the concert’s special guests.

Days before the big show, Star Music released the Wishful 5’s collaborative single, “Patuloy Ang Pangarap,” on digital platforms. The lyric videos for Princess’ “Wishful Journey” album tracks - “Sana’y Maghintay Ang Walang Hanggan,” “Ikaw Lamang,” “Walang Kasing Ikaw,” and “Pangarap Kong Bituin” - are also now available on the record label’s YouTube channel.

Besting the thousands of singing hopefuls who auditioned for “Wishcovery,” the Wishful 5 held their final sing-off at the Big Dome last March. As grand champion, Princess won P2 million worth of cash and contract, a house and lot, a brand new car, and a round trip ticket to New York for a musical training. Kimberly was named first runner-up, while Louie Anne, Carmela, and Ace were hailed as the second, third and fourth runners-up, respectively.

Be a part of the Wishful 5’s “Wishful Journey” on Tuesday (June 19) at 7 PM. Tickets are now on-sale via ticketnet.com.ph.

Their debut album will be available for purchase starting June 18 (Monday) at the ABS-CBN Store. For more details, visit starmusic.ph, like Star Music on facebook.com/starmusicph, and follow it on Twitter and Instagram @ StarMusicPH.

McJim’s Viral Short Films "Pitaka," "Sinturon," and "Bag" Earn Global Recognition, Enter 8 International Film Festivals

McJim Classic Leather’s viral short films under its Get Reel online advocacy campaign are now competing in eight prestigious international film festivals in the United States, Italy, and Australia, providing another platform for Filipinos to share their noteworthy stories to the world stage.

In communicating its advocacy of bringing the best of the Filipino to the world, McJim recently broke boundaries in digital communication as its troika of well-executed shorts were validated not only by millions of views on social media but also through global recognition with its participation in various film competitions.

“Pitaka” (The Wallet), the first of the three short films, has been officially selected to participate in film festivals in Italy and the US, namely the San Mauro Torinese International Film Festival 2018; Cefalu Film Festival in Palermo; Diwa Filipino Film Showcase of Seattle 2018; and Culture of Life Film Festival 2018 in Memphis City.

Through Pitaka’s strong and relatable narrative, brought to life by the Kuya (Karl Medina’s character) who sets aside his personal dreams to provide for his younger brother (played by Art Artienda), the world gains appreciation for the Filipino’s propensity for nurturing.

The storyline celebrates sibling relationships and what older members of the family do out of love for them. Aside from extolling Filipino family values of sacrifice and perseverance, Pitaka’s emotional impact was enhanced by the use of the Filipino language in its collaboration with Palanca-winning poet Louie Jon Sanchez and by its excellent cinematography and production quality.

Award-winning actor Karl Medina and newcomer Art Artienda breathe life into a heartwarming narrative that celebrates fraternal love and gratitude in the hit McJim short film “Pitaka.”

Another internationally acclaimed McJim viral video is “Bag,” an out-of-the-box and gay-themed short film that follows an openly gay young professional’s (Ross Pesigan) seemingly unending quest for love. In the wake of subsequent heartbreaks, Pesigan’s character finds refuge and comfort in his straight best friend (Wayne Avellano), who makes him realize that not all soul mates are romantic partners.

For its honest portrayal of straight-gay friendships and other social realities faced by the LGBT community, “Bag” has been invited to join international film fests that include the First International LGBTQ Coming of Age Short Films Festival, which will be held simultaneously in Paris, France, and San Francisco, U.S.A, in September this year; the Los Angeles CineFest 2019; the 2018 LGBTQ Shorts Film Festival; and the International Shorts Film Festival (Australia) 2018.

McJim makes a bold and much lauded move with its production of an LGBT-themed short film titled “Bag” as part of its Get Reel online campaign.

“Bag” follows the story of a brokenhearted and openly gay young professional (Ross Pesigan) who finds comfort and refuge in his straight best friend (Wayne Avellano).

McJim’s third viral video is titled “Sinturon” and features Kiko Matos and Mercedes Cabral, who likewise created a big buzz on social media with its theme of marital fidelity and generated enormous sales for McJim during the holiday season last year.

Behind Pitaka’s visually poetic direction of photography is Cesca Lee, known for the films T.P.O., Purgatoryo, and Otso. “Sinturon” and “Bag,” meanwhile, were shot by the equally talented cinematographer Patrick Ferrer. Archie del Mundo wrote the screenplay and was also line producer for the three short films.

The risqué “Sinturon” starring Mercedes Cabral and Kiko Matos shows how fidelity wins over short-lived attraction when a marital relationship is put to a test.

Chris Cahilig, director and producer of the viral videos, maintains that the success of McJim’s viral videos proves that even branded shorts can be at par with big-budget, commercially released films.

That our short films garnered millions of views on social media simply validates the Filipinos’ warm reception towards stories they can relate to,” he said. “We are likewise grateful for the prestige that comes with our films’ participation in international film fests.” But what sets McJim’s viral videos apart from the rest, Cahilig asserts, is how these depict real-life experiences of people on the ground without the need to sensationalize for the sake of views.

Through the powerful medium of filmmaking,” Cahilig concludes, “a brand breaks into the new media to advance its social cause and deliver good value and entertainment to its audience, showing that today’s Filipino gentleman has become more confident and mature as portrayed in these stories.”

For McJim, these short films provide the brand’s patrons with a new medium for expressing their feelings, culture, and personal values even as it projects to the world the remarkable character of modern Filipino gentlemen.

For generations now, McJim Classic Leather has been the leading and trusted brand for classic leather goods and accessories of superior quality and design. McJim products are available in leading online shopping sites and all major department stores nationwide.

10 "Red Alert" Safety Tips for the Whole Family in Time for School

As the school year commences, safety becomes top priority for kids both inside and outside school grounds. Know what to do in case of harm and danger with practical tips from “Red Alert,” the Best TV Public Service Program in the 2018 KBP Golden Dove Awards.

1.    Report incidents to proper authorities. Whether they’re victims or witnesses to bullying, children should know how to report such incidents to their teachers and guidance counselors to avoid further injuries.

2.    Good values are learned at home. According to psychologists, discipline starts at home, and it’s important to explain to children that hurting others (both mentally and physically) is wrong.

3.    Don’t talk to strangers. The age-old rule still applies. Remind your children to stay away from people they don’t know to avoid modus operandi of kidnappers and thieves.

4.    Pick your kids up from school, arrange carpools, or have them walk with groups on the way home to avoid walking alone and falling easy prey to criminals.

5.    Pass familiar routes and avoid dark alleys to prevent getting lost and getting easily taken advantage of.

6.    Bring a pocket flashlight and whistle if you can’t avoid dark alleys.

7.    Avoid using a cellphone while walking to avoid pickpockets and thieves.

8.    When encountering petty thieves, avoid fighting back especially when alone. Prioritize your physical safety over your belongings.

9.     In case you become victim to crime, observe identifying marks on your assailant. Take note of their height, build, unusual features, and mode of transport to help investigation.

10. Report criminal incidents to police and notify your barangay so they can take swift action and investigate the incident.

For more tips to keep the family safe in times of emergency, watch “Red Alert” with 2018 KBP Golden Dove Awards Best TV Public Affairs Program host Jeff Canoy on Wednesdays at 9:30 PM on DZMM TeleRadyo and after “Bandila” on ABS-CBN to protect the whole family from different kinds of dangers.
