8 Vacation Essentials on Your Next Out of Town Trip

Packing light is always a challenge for travelers even if the prospects of lugging bags filled with non-essentials is already daunting. Nonetheless, many succumb to the temptation. The trick to avoid over-packing is packing smart – choosing items that you need and can make your travel hassle-free.

With the summer season in full swing, be sure to hit the road with these must-haves:

Make sure to include on your list a pair of comfortable shoes that’s slightly on the neutral spectrum so that they can match with any outfit on your trip. Travelling entails a lot of walking so better pick a pair that you can wear all day.

In this day and age of IG Stories, SLRs are nearly a thing of the past—unless you’re a photo journalist - smartphones come in handy when documenting your travel memories both in land and in water. But you don’t want your phone dipping into water and getting damaged. Don’t forget to protect your phone while on vacation with a waterproof case to avert any crisis.

Chuck the extra pieces of accessories or shirts for a handy umbrella with you just in case the clouds turn gray and surprises you with a rain shower. Mr. Sun is not always out in the summer so it’s best to carry a foldable one.

A phone with a dead battery is as good as dead weight. But no need to carry extra batteries or being stressed to locate a coffee shop with outlets to recharge because you can do yourself a favor with a powerbank that fits right in your bag.

Make space in a pocket for a few pieces of basic meds, because health issues are a possibility when you’re bound for the great outdoors. Add to your travel must-haves a kit that contains basic medicines including remedies for muscle pains, allergies, headaches, and upset-stomach.

Keep your belongings safe and organized with a backpack that can fit all your travel essentials without being too stuffy. Unlike other kinds of bags, a backpack is perfect for a no-frills travel experience.

Since you only brought a few pieces of clothing, you might feel challenged with the idea of looking drab so you could throw in a scarf or two so you can look far from plain, especially with the many opportunities for an OOTD shoot.

Beat the #FOMO on TV series that you’re religiously watching while on vacation by downloading the upgraded SKY On Demand app, an exclusive online streaming service for SKY subscribers. Kojie•san Sunblock Sun Patrol: Letting You Have Fun in the Sun Without Skin Damage

The summer heat is on full effect! Time to get out there, get that golden tan in your most stunning summer threads, and sit back with a nice cold refreshing beverage in hand. Pretty sight, isn't it?

However, while the sun, sea, sand, and breeze collectively paint an amazing imagery of summer, one could also imagine how these elements can damage the skin when exposed without protection.

Have you ever stepped outdoors without any sun protection? You'd be surprised a lot of people are guilty of this. While we all dread the signs of aging, most of us don't make an effort to be kind to our skin.

Some might say they actually protect their skin by using sunblock. But probably the important question to ask are:

Are you doing enough and are you doing it right?

Have you ever gone out of the house without an SPF of at least 30?

Do you apply sun protection only on your face and neglect the other exposed parts of your body?

Do you forget to reapply sunscreen every two hours?

Do you apply less than a pea- sized amount of sunblock on your face?

If you answered YES to these, then you are committing serious violations against your skin.

Better be on the lookout then because The Kojie•san Sunblock Sun Patrol is watching to see if you commit more skin care violations and they could make a Citizen’s Arrest! Before they get to you though, you've got to make sure you know a couple of things.

A variety of factors can cause damage to your skin but the biggest culprit is sun exposure! The sun’s ultraviolet rays break down collagen and elastin, making the skin rough and uneven. These rays also affect the melanocytes, which have something to do with the skin’s pigmentation.

What’s worse is that when your skin ages prematurely due to unprotected sun exposure - you can get wrinkles, brown spots and even skin cancer!

What can you do to prevent this?

Stay out of the sun during the middle of the day when the sun’s rays are strongest, wear protective clothing such as hats and umbrellas and use a broad-spectrum sunscreen, which protect against both UVA and UVB rays, with a sun protection factor of 30 or higher. And yes, before the Kojie•san Sun Patrol makes another Citizen’s Arrest - don’t forget to reapply every two hours for maximum protection.

Kojie•san Sunblock is the only sun care brand in the Philippines with Sunactyl, which helps relieve and repair skin from sun damages caused by sun exposure. Sunactyl protects the skin against UVA and UVB damage through the glutathione system. It also fights UV-stress and heat-stress.

The products include Kojie•san Sunblock SPF 69 PA+++; Kojie•san Sunblock Face SPF 50 PA+++; Kojie•san Sunscreen SPF 55 PA+++ with Lightening; Kojie•san Sunblock Sport SPF 50 PA+++; Kojie•san Before Sunspray SPF 50; Kojie•san After Sunspray and Kojie•san Kids SPF 30 and SPF 50.

All Kojie•san Sunblock products have broad-spectrum protection against harmful UVA and UVB rays to prevent sunburn and premature skin aging.

So don’t be afraid to go out in the sun and enjoy the beach and indulge in other outdoor activities. But make sure to slather on your Kojie•san Sunblock because the Kojie•san Sun Patrol is ready to make a Citizen’s Arrest anytime you commit a skin crime.

SWS and Pulse Asia: Over Half of Metro Manila Homes Already on Digital Terrestrial TV

More than half of the total number of homes in Metro Manila are watching television via digital terrestrial television (DTT), according to the latest surveys conducted by Pulse Asia and SWS.

Pulse Asia and SWS both conducted surveys in March, which showed, respectively, that 51% and 56% of Metro Manila homes own a DTT box, which gives a better TV viewing experience and more choices in terms of programs and channels.

The Pulse Asia and SWS surveys also found, respectively, that 16% and 17% of households nationwide have a DTT box.

The results from the polling firms show that more and more consumers are making the big switch from analog to DTT, as ABS-CBN reports it has sold a cumulative total of five million ABS-CBN TVplus boxes as of May 3.

ABS-CBN Tvplus, which was launched in 2015, enables viewers to enjoy clearer picture and audio quality, affordable pay-per-view services, and free exclusive channels without any monthly and installation fee.

With the robust sales of ABS-CBN TVplus driving the rise in DTT penetration, ABS-CBN is ahead of other broadcast companies in supporting the government’s mandate for the full shift from analog to DTT by 2023.

Since its launch three years ago, ABS-CBN TVplus has expanded its signal coverage in the country to reach residents in Metro Manila, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Pangasinan, Rizal, Laguna, Pampanga, Tarlac, Benguet, Cavite, Metro Cebu, Cagayan De Oro, Iloilo, Bacolod, and Davao.

While ABS-CBN TVplus’ latest milestone indicates that more Filipinos are eager to enjoy its life-changing benefits, it also means that viewers are enjoying ABS-CBN TVplus’ program offerings, translating into higher viewership for two of its exclusive channels.

CineMo, the first-ever all-day movie channel to air on ABS-CBN TVplus, is now the third most watched channel in Metro Manila with an average audience share of 7% for the month of April, according to data from Kantar Media covering urban and rural homes.

Like CineMo, ABS-CBN TVplus’ all-day children’s entertainment channel YeY! has also gained a solid following as the fourth most watched channel in Metro Manila with an average audience share of 5%.

Kantar Media is a leading television (TV) audience measurement provider with capabilities in gathering TV viewing data in both digital and analog platforms. It is a multinational market research group that specializes in audience measurement in more than 80 countries, has 26 TV networks, ad agencies, and pan-regional networks subscribing to its ratings services.

Asian Americans Call for a Movement To Represent in Hollywood

Myx TV joins speakers at the Television Academy’s talk on “The State of Asian American Representation in Hollywood” in advocating for inclusion and diversity in mainstream entertainment

The statement as reported by Variety from Veena Sud, the creator of the AMC American crime drama TV series, “The Killing”, whose premiere ranked as the second-highest original series premiere for AMC, was as realistic as it could get:

As a showrunner, I can pitch any story, but if it doesn’t sell it doesn’t get on the air. So I can go ahead and pitch every Filipino [or] Indian story known on the face of the Earth, but if it doesn’t sell, it doesn’t matter. And so there is a radical sea-change necessary, not only in our group represented here but in the entire industry,” Sud said.

This Asian American Heritage Month, the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences or The Television Academy – the organization that brings the Emmys to the world – organized a timely talk that provided a voice for the valid concerns and sentiments of the likes of Sud, a well-known Asian American showrunner and writer in Hollywood.

Myx TV, the leading English-language Asian American entertainment network, represented at this critical discussion with Myx TV General Manager and Executive Producer Miguel Santos moderating the event which was held at the Governors Room of the Saban Media Center at the Television Academy in North Hollywood, California.

Joining Santos and Sud in the panel are casting agent Howard Meltzer, CSA, director/showrunner Kulap Vilaysack of “Bajillion Dollar Propertie$” formerly on NBCUniversal’s Seeso network and now on Amazon, and co-host Jeannie Mai of the talk show, “The Real” on Fox.

In the same story from Variety, Sud added: “[We can’t lose] sight that this has to be a movement. We can knock on the door until our hands fall off, but if those shows are not being greenlit and those writers are not being hired [nothing will change].”

Mai, for her part, said that the way she does it – and advises others to do it – is to be loud and aggressive about having her voice heard and going for what she wants.

One time I was at an event with Eva Longoria, and she has done an amazing amount of work for her community through her organizations,” Mai said, noting that although she, too, tries to bring the Asian community together, she finds that they tend to isolate and segregate themselves, “with Koreans hanging out with Koreans, Indians hanging out together, Vietnamese hanging out together.”

Mai asked Longoria how she got everyone to come together to show support for each other, “and she said, ‘Girl, my people are just loud,'” Mai recalled.

I applaud the African-Americans and the Latin Americans right now. They’re so good at being vocal and being prominent about what the problem is,” Mai continued. “As much as we can speak up here, it’s not a noise. And this helps, but it needs to be amplified.

Meltzer – a casting director working mostly in television comedies -- was quoted by Variety that he is just looking for “the funniest person,” regardless of ethnicity. But he has been fortunate that he has had relationships with network, primarily the Disney Channel, that champions such race-blind casting.

Vilaysack has had experience both in front of and behind the camera, and she acknowledged a trend of getting a lot of auditions for “quirky” roles that were written to be Asian.

I looked around [in the waiting room] and I saw diversity, but on the casting side I knew that people just saw us all the same, and I think that’s a mistake,” Vilaysack said.

Sud added that the “specificity of each of our stories and where we come from — not only our ethnicity but where we grew up, our friends, how we fall in love” is so interesting, yet there are still few chances to explore it on-screen.

I feel sometimes so frustrated because it’s like the rest of America is more advanced than what we see on our screen,” Sud added.

A step toward that change, Sud suggested, would be an Asian-American committee inside the Television Academy — an opportunity for the community to get together as a group talk about the issues they face and the change they want to see.

And Sud believes the fact that there is more real estate now, thanks to such digital platforms, is what will allow for the most change.

Now instead of the stranglehold of yesteryear of three channels or 10 channels — such small real estate that it’s selfishly guarded and protected to just say a few stories that appeal to the broadest audience possible, now with streaming we’re seeing the possibility. We’re seeing it opening. So right now I think our responsibilities as people behind the camera, in front of the camera, as people in the Academy who have the power is to continue these conversations and really press into this issue,” Sud said.
