Acoustic Soul Singer KAYE CAL Soars for Her Breakthrough Self-Tiltled Album Under Star Music

From joining Pilipinas Got Talent to We Love OPM, Kaye Cal has come a long way and is now ready to unleash her acoustic soul as she launches her first solo album under Star Music.

Kaye initially went mainstream as the lead vocalist of Ezra Band, a Pilipinas Got Talent Season 1 grand finalist. She has eventually emerged as a solo performer, doing covers in her Youtube channel, recording singles for Star Music’s OPM Fresh and Himig Handog, and being part of Nyoy Volante’s team in We Love OPM.

Kaye’s self-titled album has nine tracks with two originals, three covers and four bonus hits. She composed the two original songs, “Rosas” and “Mahal Ba Ako ng Mahal Ko.”

This album also includes some of her popular covers like all-time OPM favorites “Why Can’t It Be”, “Ikaw Lang”, and a song collaboration with Maya and Michael Pangilinan, “Kung Ako Na Lang Sana”.

It features bonus tracks such as her greatest hits “Walang Iba”, a song originally sung by Ezra Band, and “Isang Araw”, her single under Star Music’s OPM Fresh album compilation.

Kaye’s song “Nyebe”, part of Himig Handog’s P-Pop Love Songs for 2016, is also part of the album alongside “Give Me a Chance”, a single included in the successful soundtrack of the TV series, Til I Met You.

Her songs in this album will surely become romantic hits as what the singer-guitarist has achieved in her previous acoustic covers.

Kaye, who hailed from Davao del Sur, is a proud lesbian and member of the LGBT community. She has been making waves in the music industry with her soulful and uniquely ‘masculine’ singing voice.

Catch her perform live at the grand album launch happening on Sunday, March 19, 7PM at Starmall Alabang.

“Kaye Cal,” produced by Rox Santos, will soon be available at all record bars nationwide for only P199. Digital tracks may be downloaded on online music stores such as iTunes, Apple Music and Spotify.

ANC Launches New Programming, New Anchors in 2017

ANC, the ABS-CBN News Channel, formally launched its new lineup of programs headlined by the new morning show “Early Edition,” primetime news program “The Bureau,” and the daily sports newscast “Gametime” in a presscon held today (Mar 15) in ABS-CBN.

The country’s first 24/7 English language news channel also introduced the new members of its broadcast team – Annalisa Burgos and Migs Bustos – as ANC continues to strengthen its programming and deliver the best news coverage and content to business leaders and decision-makers here and abroad.

Early Edition,” anchored by TJ Manotoc and Annalisa Burgos with Paolo Abrera, Michelle Ong, and Christian Esguerra, delivers the latest local and global news, financial updates, and breaking reports starting at 5:30am from Monday to Friday. The program includes interviews with experts on politics, the economy, and foreign policy and also discusses trending topics on sports, entertainment and lifestyle.

ABS-CBN Integrated News and Current Affairs head Ging Reyes introduces the new shows “Early Edition”, “Gametime” and “The Bureau”.

The show is the first major assignment for international news anchor Annalisa, the latest addition to ANC’s formidable roster of journalists. The Los Angeles-born journo brings with her over 17 years of experience, covering the news, business, and lifestyle beats in the USA and later in Asia for organizations like Channel NewsAsia, HGTV, Forbes, CNBC, and Bloomberg.

Annalisa shared why she decided to continue her career in the Philippines and with ANC, which happens to be the only English language 24/7 news channel in the Philippines that is broadcast internationally.

I admire the company’s journalistic reputation and commitment to informing Filipinos across the world. I grew up watching The Filipino Channel and learned Tagalog by watching it with my grandmother. So many Filipino immigrants rely on ABS-CBN to stay connected to their motherland and I’m honored to be part of this tradition,” she explained.  Annalisa revealed that as someone new in the country, she is also able to give a fresh perspective on issues.  “I like to challenge the way people see things, so expect to see different points of view. I offer an outsider’s take on what Filipinos may take for granted or miss,” she added.

Migs Bustos of “Gametime” and Ron Cruz of “The Bureau” strengthen ANC’s news coverage from sports to international news ad events.

Also debuting a new face on ANC is “Gametime,” a 30-minute sports newscast airing weekdays at 9:30pm and featuring sports highlights, game recaps, exclusive interviews, and interactive segments presented by upcoming anchor Migs Bustos. Migs is a seasoned commentator for the National Collegiate Athletic Association and contributes stories to Channel 2’s news program Bandila and articles and analysis to ABS-CBN’s online sports hub, sports.abs-cbn.com. He began his young and promising broadcast career as sports analyst for ABS-CBN S+A sports channel’s “The Score,” DZMM’s “Fastbreak,” and ANC’s “Hardball,” before venturing into newscasting as an anchor for “ANC Headlines.”

Migs, a true blue sports aficionado since childhood, is living beyond his dreams as the main man of ANC’s newest sports show. The youthful anchor said his initial goal was just to be able to call games as a sports commentator, but his hard work and faith paid off and opened even more doors for him. On “Gametime,” Migs promises to bring the energy of the games to the newscast, while also providing sharp analysis of performances and issues in sports for the day.

When a viewer gets home from a tiring day, the best way to relax is by watching the program. The analysis and in-depth coverage of sports events is also something they should watch out for,” he said.

Meanwhile, ANC is also introducing a primetime edition of “The Bureau,” which offers a comprehensive take on international news and events with reports from worldwide news resources.

At the helm of the 7pm edition is Ron Cruz, while Karmina Constantino remains the anchor at 4pm.

Ron is one of ANC’s most loyal anchors, having been with the channel for 21 years. For his new assignment Ron hopes to address the demand of viewers for more global news and stories.

The world is getting really small and Filipinos want to know what’s happening around the world that directly affects their lives and can affect their businesses here,” he explained.

Apart from new shows and anchors, ANC also introduced changes in its program grid to ensure that it delivers news to its audience every top of the hour.  “ANCalerts” airing at a later timeslot at 5pm, followed by “Top Story”, and ANC’s current affairs block at 6:30pm, featuring weekly programs like sports talk show “Hardball,” eco-friendly urban magazine program “Green Living,” award-winning documentary series “Mukha,” Sen. Loren Legarda’s cultural documentary program “Dayaw,” and lifestyle show “Cityscape.” “Talkback with Tina Palma,” “Beyond Politics,” “Future Perfect,” The Boss,” and “On The Money” moved to the 7:30pm timeslot.

Other ANC programs have retained their schedules such as “News Now” at 5am, 9am, 10am, and 11am, “Headstart with Karen Davila” at 8am, “Market Edge with Cathy Yang” at 9am and 3pm, “Dateline Philippines” at 12nn, “ANC Documentary Hour” at 8pm,“The World Tonight” at 9pm, and “Business Nighty” at 10pm, every Monday to Friday.

During the weekends, returning Edric Mendoza, who got a new co-anchor in Salve Duplito, will still deliver financial news and information at 4pm on “On The Money.” People can continue to get their news fix on Saturdays and Sundays from “News Now” at 9am, 3pm, 7pm, “Dateline Philippines” at 12nn, Top Story at 5pm,  and “The World Tonight” at 9pm.

ABS-CBN Integrated News head Ging Reyes said there are more to come for the channel in 2017 as they further strengthen ANC’s business and political content and programming, and produce more live events like their ANCX series.

We in ABS-CBN never tire of innovating. We are always restless. We always challenge ourselves to do better. The spirit of adapting to change and delivering what our viewers need continues this year,” she said.

ANC, deemed as the gold standard in Philippine news, has been a partner and the go-to news source of the country’s business leaders and decision-makers for more than two decades.

“CURIOSITY, ADVENTURE & LOVE” Airs March 19 on ABS-CBN

Learn about life, love, history, humanity, and compassion from the eyes of a 105-year-old woman who left her country to live in the Philippines in “Curiosity, Adventure & Love,” airing this Sunday (March 19) on ABS-CBN.

The special documentary film immortalizes the vivid memories of humanitarian Jessie Lichauco, who personally recounts how she boldly went to the arms of chance to pursue a colorful and meaningful life in a foreign nation that she now considers her home.

From following her heart and marrying Filipino Marcial P. Lichauco in the early 1930’s, to opening up their temporary shelter to war refugees during World War II, Jessie tells all in this documentary co-written and produced by her very own granddaughter – freelance journalist Sunshine Lichauco de Leon – together with filmmaker Suzanne Richiardone.

When asked what inspired her to do a film about her grandmother’s journey, Sunshine said in an interview on ANC’s “Headstart with Karen Davila” that she wanted to share her grandmother’s memories, which she believes are full of life lessons.

My grandmother remembers everything with clarity and detail. Growing up I would watch people listen to her stories, I would see their reactions, and they were always fascinated and wanted to know more. As I grow older and people continue to visit her, I realized she is a great character to get people interested in the history of the Philippines. There is so much she has to share. Her memories are the best way to bring that history alive and share it with people on screen.”

I watched her humanity, her compassion, her way of living, and seeing the world. I thought it was very special and unique and there were a lot of lessons that she offers, simple truths that we usually forget,” she added.

“Curiosity, Adventure & Love” was in competition for the Filipino New Cinema Category in the 2016 World Premieres Film Festival Philippines, and won a Special Jury Prize for documentary. The docu film airs on ABS-CBN as part of its month-long celebration of Women’s Month.

Catch “Curiosity, Adventure & Love” this Sunday (March 19) after “Gandang Gabi Vice.” To know more, visit the film’s official website www.curiosityadventureandlove.com or like the film’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/curiosityadventureandlove/. ABS-CBN Awards Shenzhen Police for Exemplary Police Work in the Raid and Arrest of Filstream Owners

ABS-CBN’s Head of Global Anti-Piracy, Elisha Lawrence, awarded the Xixiang Police Station of Shenzhen Public Security Bureau (PSB) for their heroic police work in raiding and arresting Alan Zhou, Roland Lu, Long Zhao and Yunmin Chen, four major players in the global piracy operation of the pirate streaming box Filstream.

Police Officers Cui Yang and Yinbo Lin received awards in the presence of their superior, Deputy Chief Police Officer Zuo Yang.  Also present was Yunze Lian, Senior Partner and Head of Patent and Trademark Group of the Hylands Law Firm, who represented ABS-CBN and worked together with Ms. Lawrence and the Shenzhen Public Security Bureau to execute the investigation and raid.

According to Lawrence: “It was important to ABS-CBN to recognize the excellent work by the Xixiang Police Station of Shenzhen Public Security Bureau.  Without them, the piracy operations of Filstream would have continued to thrive to the detriment of the hardworking people of ABS-CBN who produce the copyrighted content that Filstream illegally streamed.  I was extremely impressed by the Shenzhen PSB’s dedication, professionalism and commitment to law enforcement.  ABS-CBN is truly grateful.”

Lisbeth Salander Returns to Big Screen via Sony Pictures' THE GIRL IN THE SPIDER'S WEB

Lisbeth Salander, the cult figure and title character of the acclaimed Millennium book series created by Stieg Larsson, will return to the screen in The Girl in the Spider's Web, a first-time adaptation of the recent global bestseller written by David Lagercrantz.

Fede Alvarez, the director of 2016's breakout thriller Don't Breathe, will helm the project from a screenplay by Steven Knight and Fede Alvarez & Jay Basu. Scott Rudin, Søren Stærmose, Ole Søndberg, Amy Pascal, Elizabeth Cantillon, Eli Bush, and Berna Levin will produce; the executive producers are Anni Faurbye Fernandez, Line Winther Skyum Funch, Johannes Jensen, and David Fincher.

The new film will feature an entirely new cast, and the announcement marks the kickoff of a global search for an actress to portray in the iconic role of Lisbeth Salander. The production will begin principal photography in September of this year with a release date scheduled for October 5, 2018.

The Girl in the Spider's Web will be the first in the best-selling series to be produced into an English-language film in its initial adaptation. The previous books in the series have been adapted into Swedish-language films, and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was a remake of the Swedish film. It became a global hit for Columbia Pictures, taking in over $230 million worldwide.

The announcement was made today at the London Book Fair during a celebration for the fifth Millennium book launch, also by Lagercrantz. Sony's Columbia Pictures retains the rights to all future Millennium Series books.

Sanford Panitch, president of Columbia Pictures, said, "In all of contemporary literature, Lisbeth Salander is completely sui generis – probably one of the greatest female literary characters of all time in my view. Modern punk defiance personified, she is unforgettable in every incarnation, truly one of the most compelling characters we've seen in recent years. David Lagercrantz's brilliant work in continuing this remarkable series honors Stieg Larsson's masterpiece. We at Sony are so honored to be part of this series with Yellowbird, and we're so excited to be making an original film of The Girl in the Spider's Web. Fede Alvarez is the perfect choice to direct. Fede is an amazing director with a unique vision of the world. In particular, his talent and skill in creating psychological intensity will bring Lisbeth Salander back into popular movie culture with a roar."

Alvarez added, "I'm hugely excited and grateful for this opportunity. Sony has become family to me and I can't think of a more thrilling project to celebrate our relationship. Lisbeth Salander is the kind of character any director dreams of bringing to life. We've got a great script and now comes the most fun part – finding our Lisbeth."

The Millennium Series is a worldwide bestseller, with the four books selling over 86 million copies since their debut.

When terrorism reaches a new level that includes the ability to hack into people's minds and control them, Major is uniquely qualified to stop it. As she prepares to face a new enemy, Major discovers that she has been lied to: her life was not saved, it was stolen. She will stop at nothing to recover her past, find out who did this to her and stop them before they do it to others.

Scarlett Johansson (The Avengers, Lucy) heads up an international cast that also features Pilou Asbæk (Ben-Hur), "Beat" Takeshi Kitano (Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence, Battle Royale series), Juliette Binoche (The English Patient), Michael Carmen Pitt (TV's Hannibal), Chin Han (Independence Day: Resurgence), Danusia Samal (TV's Tyrant), Lasarus Ratuere (TV's Terra Nova), Yutaka Izumihara (Unbroken) and Tawanda Manyimo (The Rover), as well as Daniel Henshall (AMC's series TURN: Washington's Spies) and Kaori Momoi (Memoirs Of A Geisha).

Since the publication of Masamune Shirow's original manga in 1989, Ghost in the Shell has inspired a devoted worldwide following, including influential filmmakers like Steven Spielberg, James Cameron and the Wachowskis. The epic media franchise already includes two landmark anime feature films and two television series, as well as novels, video and mobile games.

Rupert Sanders was already very familiar with the first Ghost in the Shell anime feature, which he lauds as a milestone in the history of modern cinema for the way it blends a quintessentially Japanese milieu with popular science-fiction tropes. "The grown-up animation is pretty spectacular," says the director. "It set the standard for a futuristic global aesthetic. The character of Major is fundamentally exciting - she's so powerful and sexual. She's a human and she's a machine. The mix of all these elements was very intoxicating to me as a filmmaker."

Not long after Sanders officially signed on to the project in January 2014 he presented the producers with an original 110-page graphic novel to lay out his take on the film. "I wanted to return to the original world of Ghost in the Shell," he explains. "The visual language of the manga really caught my imagination, so I used many images from the original in that rough collage of the story."

Ghost In The Shell is unprecedentedly popular in Japan, but many people in America and around the world have also seen and loved the anime. "The imagery really strikes a nerve," says Sanders. "Those images became the cornerstone for us in developing the movie. We didn't reinvent it from the ground up, but we also didn't copy it frame for frame."

Sanders' intention was always to build a bigger film around the source material, while honoring the heart and philosophical essence as well as the iconic images that have made the story universally popular. "We kept the Geisha as our opening sequence," he says. "We kept the trash truck. We kept some of the Hanka Corporation, and many, many little things that as a fan I was obsessed with. Sanders preserved many of the iconic elements of the original. Although there are conversations about humanity, technology, and dualism, our film is primarily a journey of discovery told through a fairly straightforward detective story. Major is after a bad guy, which leads to the question, who is this guy? What's he taking and why is he taking it? But as she goes down this road, she starts to understand that her path and his path are closer than she thought."

Everyone involved in the film felt a tremendous responsibility to maintain the integrity of the franchise. Throughout the writing, development and shooting of the movie, the filmmakers referred back to the manga and the anime for inspiration. In addition, Mamoru Oshii, director of the two animated features, and Kenji Kamiyama, director of the television series, were invited to visit the set during filming in Hong Kong.

"Rupert has made his own version of this story," says Oshii. "This is the most gorgeous film made in the series so far. Rupert starts with compositions, colors and lighting ideas. As a director myself, I believe it's best for the director to do what he envisions, so I wished that for Rupert. Scarlett Johansson has gone above and beyond my expectations for the role of Major."

Sanders is proud to be part of the continuing Ghost in the Shell legacy. "We all felt it was important for us to become part of that culture," he concludes. "We had someone from Japan with us the whole time we were shooting the film. We wanted to be a part of this line of storytellers, and we wanted them to be a part of our project."

Opening across the Philippines on March 29, Ghost in the Shell is distributed by United International Pictures through Columbia Pictures.
