Filstream Pirate Box Kingpins Alan Zhou and Roland Lu Arrested by Shenzhen, China Police

Alan Zhou and Roland Lu, the owners and operators of Shenzhen Welnavi Technology Co., LTD ("Shenzhen Welnavi") factory in Shenzhen, China, who police determined illegally programmed pirate IPTV boxes in Shenzhen and marketed and sold them around the world under the "Filstream" brand, were arrested and charged with copyright infringement by the Shenzhen Police on Wednesday, local time in Shenzhen, Guangdong, China.

Two senior programmers at the factory were also arrested and charged in connection with the matter. All those arrested are expected to remain in custody pending trial which is likely to take place next year. The Shenzhen police team conducted a raid of Shenzhen Welnavi on February 28, 2017 and the company's servers and business records were seized as part of the police team's criminal investigation of the illegal distribution network.

The arrests in China were the culmination of an eight-month long worldwide investigation spearheaded by the Philippine media and entertainment network ABS-CBN. To date, the investigation has resulted in the arrest and seizure of Filstream box distributors in Illinois and Florida. The criminal arrest and prosecution of additional distributors in multiple locations around the United States and Canada is ongoing and expected within the coming weeks.

Arrested together with Zhou were Roland Lu and two programmers, who were all charged with copyright infringement with a maximum penalty of seven years in jail. Zhou, Lu and the two programmers, are expected to stay in jail until trial which is to begin in about a year. Shenzhen Welnavi has been fully shut down.

"Piracy is a cancer in the content industry"

According to ABS-CBN's AVP & Head of Global Anti-Piracy Elisha Lawrence, "The police have determined that Alan Zhou and Roland Lu ran a global piracy operation with the intent to interfere with ABS-CBN's legitimate business. ABS-CBN/TFC distributes its content through cable providers, its own TFC IPTV boxes, as well as via digitally on tfc.tv. Alan Zhou and Roland Lu have disrupted ABS-CBN's legitimate business. In addition, Filstream's distributors contacted ABS-CBN's distributors throughout the US, Canada, Australia and Europe, soliciting them to be Filstream's distributors. They contacted customers of ABS-CBN offering their boxes in lieu of ABS-CBN's legitimate IPTV boxes. They blatantly confused customers by using ABS-CBN's registered trademarks and logos on their websites and social media sites. Alan Zhou and Roland Lu's actions were despicable."

Lawrence revealed also that ABS-CBN plans to continue to initiate and enforce criminal and civil actions against anyone who steals its movies and TV shows and offers them via IPTV box, free websites or on Youtube, Daily Motion and Facebook.

"ABS-CBN spends millions of dollars each year producing these TV shows and movies and we will not allow these pirates to give them away for free," Lawrence explained.

Lawrence had harsh words for Zhou and Lu. "Pirates are thieves stealing the content that ABS-CBN has invested a great deal of time to create," she said. "I am glad to see them, and their distributors, being criminally pursued by every means under the law in China and the U.S. I am very grateful for the excellent work by the police in Shenzhen, China, Illinois, and Florida. It is a global operation with an army of investigators throughout the world that helped us get the evidence to support the raids in China and the United States."

ABS-CBN Global COO Raffy Lopez was very clear about the company's stand against piracy.

"The management of ABS-CBN has absolutely no tolerance for content piracy. We will continue to do everything in our power to prosecute all who would attempt to pirate our content," said Lopez. "Piracy is like a cancer in the content industry. The pirates, in their selfish pursuit of short-term profits, have absolutely no regard for their negative impact on the industry. We will continue our vigilance in finding and prosecuting all pirates regardless of the cost."

As the Filstream signal has been shut down, for all victims who purchased the Filstream boxes, call 1-866-746-6988 now to receive one month FREE TFC subscription or visit www.tfc-usa.com/tfcbox for details.

LIFESTYLE Celebrates Women's Month with “I LOVE ME” Campaign

In celebration of Women’s Month, Lifestyle encourages all women to embrace every part of their body with the “I LOVE ME” campaign.

Portraits of women of different shapes and forms, and in different stages in their lives will be showcased in a series of plugs as Lifestyle features ladies with inspiring stories to tell, to highlight diversity and to serve as reminder of their shared desire: that each woman wants to feel good about herself.

Alexandra Alaba Lao, a chef-entrepreneur who recently got married, shared how she overcame her insecurities when she was a working student aiming to help ends meet. For several years, she suffered from depression and eventually gained a lot of weight.

“I got into fitness, renewed my faith and had a total change of lifestyle,” shared Alex during the ladies’ photoshoot. “I followed friends’ advice to have a positivity wall and learned to embrace the essence of gratefulness.” She is now a proud owner of a fast food hub and a restaurant called Croque Café + Bakery both located in Makati City.

Makeup artist Eica Decepida was happy to share how she is able to help transform and give confidence to clients who feel insecure about their looks. Rather than changing anything about their looks, “I believe in simply enhancing a woman’s natural beauty,” she said on her five-year passion.

Transwoman Janlee Dungca, a public relations practitioner, meanwhile believes that a woman’s beauty inside manifests and radiates beyond physical looks. Her story as a volunteer of Love Yourself, an HIV awareness organization, and as an advocate of LGBT rights, serves as a heartening piece promoting inner beauty while encouraging women’s need to take care of themselves and be mindful of their rights.

Others who willingly shared what makes them beautiful are creative director Kyla Olives, lifestyle blogger Kally Araneta, student Nicolle Bueno, College professor Tin Militante, photographer Nicolai Melicor-Villaruel and TV host Janeena Chan.

Writer and illustrator Kisty Mea, artist Bern Cruz, art director Trish Noble, and commercial model Jeff Serrano also revealed their own body issues and how they have learned to love their uniqueness.

Catch the stories of these ladies on Lifestyle, one of the channels of Creative Programs, Inc., a subsidiary of ABS-CBN that aims to give Filipinos a complete lifestyle experience.

This cable channel celebrates the uniqueness of women in its continuing promotion of loving life that starts with loving oneself. Its various shows on food (Giada At Home, Donna Hay: Basics to Brilliance, FoodPrints, Curiosity Got the Chef) travel (Great Escapes, Big Crazy Family Adventure, Rick Stein’s Long Weekends, The Wine Show), entertainment (Il Paradiso Delle Signore, Unplugged Nation, Secret Lives of the Super Rich, Kids Do The Craziest Things), and home (Australia’s Best Houses, Of Houses and Ideas, Chic, Socialite Families) aim to be an ample lady’s guide to living out her dreams and sharing unique experiences.

Ateneo, DLSU Clash in Bid for UAAP Lead on S+A’S Rivalry Weekend

The solo lead in the UAAP Season 79 women’s volleyball tournament will be at stake when arch rivals the Ateneo Lady Eagles (5-1) and defending champion De La Salle Lady Spikers (5-1) clash for the first time since last year’s finals match-up this Saturday (March 4) at the SM Mall of Asia Arena, to be aired LIVE on S+A and S+A HD at 4pm with livestreaming on sports.abs-cbn.com.

As part of the Rivalry Weekend for UAAP Volleyball on S+A, the FEU Lady Tamaraws (4-2) and the UST Golden Tigresses (3-3) fight for better position in the standings in the curtain raiser slated at 2pm. “UPFRONT at the UAAP” will have also have a special “Ateneo vs. La Salle” primer featuring former UAAP stars Cha Cruz and Melissa Gohing of De La Salle University and Gretchen Ho and Amy Ahomiro of Ateneo De Manila University.

The Lady Eagles have been on a rampage, winning four straight games after dropping their second game against the highly-touted NU Lady Bulldogs. Meanwhile, doubts clouded over the Lady Spikers after being torched by the upstart UP Lady Maroons early in the tournament but they have since regained their composure with a three-game winning streak.

Despite losing key players, both teams are looking sharp and ready for a sixth straight Finals showdown. Season 77 Best Setter Jia Morado has embraced the role as the team’s new leader, and has been instrumental in turning Jho Maraguinot into a dangerous weapon for the former champs, similar to the graduated Phenom, Alyssa Valdez. An additional revelation for Ateneo this season has been Kat Tolentino, who finally had the green light to play after suffering knee injuries in the past two seasons, and the rounding into form of returnee Michelle Morente.

Meanwhile, for the Taft-based volleybelles, Season 78 Best Setter Kim Fajardo has been very impressive in helping the continued rise of Tin Tiamzon and their twin towers in Season 78 – Finals MVP Kim Dy and Majoy Barron – to offset the loss of Mika Reyes and offensive superweapon Ara Galang. The Lady Spikers are also enjoying an impactful rookie campaign from setter Michelle Cobb and Fil-Nigerian Aduke Ogunsaya, who have been sparkplugs off Coach Ramil De Jesus’ bench in their bid for a title defense.

FEU and UST also have an age-old rivalry as the two winningest volleyball programs in UAAP history. The squads that produced UAAP icons Venus Bernal and Mary Jean Balse (UST) and Wendy Semana and Rachel Anne Daquis (FEU) are determined to bring back glory to their schools with Bernadeth Pons leading the way for FEU, and the equally explosive Cherry Rondina for UST. The two teams are set to rekindle the flames of battles past when the two teams collide at 2pm before the Ateneo-La Salle match.

The rivalry showdown continues at the Men’s Division, as UST faces FEU, while Ateneo tries to power through DLSU for a perfect first round record also on Saturday (March 4). S+A will air the latter LIVE at 10am. On Sunday (March 5), UE goes up against Adamson at 2pm, and UP tries to bounce back against NU at 4pm in the Women’s Division to be aired LIVE on S+A, while their counterparts in the Men’s Division also go at it. The Men’s games will be aired at 6pm on S+A HD.

Tune in this Saturday (March 4) for the UAAP’s Rivalry Weekend starting with the “Ateneo vs. DLSU” special of “UPFRONT at the UAAP” at 1:30pm, followed by UST vs. FEU at 2pm and Ateneo vs. DLSU at 4pm, simultaneously on S+A and S+A HD. For more news, features, and live streaming, visit sports.abs-cbn.com or follow @ABSCBNSports on Twitter and Facebook. Catch the replays on S+A and S+A HD.

Congratulations @iluvrizzag, “My #Cloud9Moment Fan Mode On” Contest Winner

Last January, I shared with you, my beloved readers, my journey from being a simple fan who admires and religiously follows the whereabouts of my favorite stars on social media, to becoming an entertainment blogger who writes about them, and even talk to these TV and movie actors in person.

As I’ve mentioned, I consider this as one of my life’s special moments, or should I say my “turning point.” It’s a lucrative hobby that enables me to rub elbows with the stars that I worship and, at the same time, establish a strong presence in the online world as a media person. And because of this, I’m proud to say that the day I became a blogger is my #Cloud9Moment.

After I told you about my fan-to- blogger story, I also invited you my dear readers to share on your social media your own meaningful encounters with your idols via the “My #Cloud9Moment Fan Mode On” contest. I must say, I really enjoyed reading all the entries.

But there is one entry that resonated with my own Cloud 9 Moment that’s why I picked it as the winner: @iluvrizzag has been an avid follower of “Kalye Serye” because of the phenomenal AlDub love team.

She discovered that Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza, known for their ‘AlDub’ moniker, are very nice and accommodating in person despite the fact that they are A-listers in the showbiz industry. In an event where thousands of fans are dying to take a selfie with the couple, she took her 1/100 chance. To her surprise, Alden and Maine allotted extra time to accommodate as many fans as possible during their limited time (their schedules are crazy) and she’s one of the lucky few who was able to take that highly-coveted selfie!

Not all celebrities take the initiative to spend extra time with their fans. There’s only a few of them. In my experience, when I became an Alden Richards follower, I can testify on how down-to- earth this guy was (and he still is). And now that I’m an established entertainment blogger, I don’t miss any press cons and blog cons for Alden’s latest projects and endorsements. I must say, he talks to me on a first name basis every time we meet. Despite his success, he’s still the approachable celebrity that I came to know.

I still admire him for being a celebrity who gives extra time for his fans.

Congratulations Rizza for winning an Instax camera and Cloud 9 gift pack by sharing your #Cloud9Moment. I will contact you for instructions on how to claim your prize.

To all those who joined the contest, thank you very much. I hope you’ll all continue spreading good vibes on social media by sharing photos of your #Cloud9Moment.

Adorable, Talented Kids Awra Briguela, Xymon Pineda, James Sagarino, Rhian Lorraine Pineda, Shantel Ngujo, Nayomi Ramos and Enzo Pelojero Capture the Hearts of Viewers Worldwide

Just like in every Filipino family, what adds love, fun, and color to the viewing experience of every Kapamilya are the cute and talented child stars in the ABS-CBN top-rating teleseryes "FPJ's Ang Probinsyano" and "My Dear Heart," airing outside the Philippines via The Filipino Channel (TFC).

These child stars get intense support from viewers not only because of their superb performances, but also because they are good role models to young audiences both in and out the country.

Aside from action and drama, "FPJ's Ang Probinsyano" offers fun and laughter, with the help of Macmac (Awra Briguela) and Onyok (Xymon "Onyok" Pineda).

They have not only impressed viewers with their characters' wit, but also shared stories that left marks on people's hearts. Macmac's coming out showed viewers that there is nothing wrong about being true to oneself. While Onyok's despair when Cardo (Coco Martin), whom he treats as a father, got jailed exemplified that one need not be related by blood to consider another as family.

The series has also brought fun to a notch higher for Filipino families with the introduction of the newest young characters: Paquito (James Sagarino), Dang (Rhian Lorraine Pineda), and Ligaya (Shantel Ngujo).

Meanwhile, the touching story of "My Dear Heart," which stars Nayomi "Heart" Ramos, also touches and lightens the hearts of the viewers.

Though young and small, Heart (Ramos) is her family's biggest source of love and inspiration. So even after she falls comatose and nothing but a spirit which is seen only by Dra. Divinagracia (Coney Reyes), Heart does what it takes to soften the heart of the doctor so she could be well again and be back with her family.

Joining Heart on her journey is her best friend Bingo (Enzo Pelojero), who helps her find her way back and reunite with her family.

With the unwavering support of viewers, both series have maintained their lead in their respective timeslots and in terms of views since they started airing on television, according to data from Kantar Media, a local viewership measurement company. The two shows are also part of the Top 15 shows with the highest views online (TFC.tv). These shows are also constant trending topics on Twitter and earn praises from netizens.

Continue to be inspired and spread love and positive vibes with the kids of "FPJ's Ang Probinsyano" and "My Dear Heart" which airs via TFC. Catch up episodes are available via TFC online (TFC.tv) and TFC IPTV.

Riverdale's Archie KJ Apa Shines in the Movie A DOG'S PURPOSE

Currently starring as the lead in the hit CW series Riverdale which features characters from the Archie comic-books series, new teen sensation KJ Apa makes his big-screen debut in Universal Pictures' moving tale A Dog's Purpose.

Based on author W. Bruce Cameron's beloved best-selling novel, A Dog's Purpose tells the heart-warming and surprising story of one devoted dog who finds the meaning of his own existence through the lives of the humans he teaches to laugh and love.

Over the course of five decades, a single voice - that of an indefatigable dog - takes us along a riveting and uplifting path that speaks to the heart of anyone who has ever loved an animal. Although he is reincarnated in the bodies of multiple canines through the years, it is his unbreakable bond with a kindred spirit named Ethan that carries and inspires one dog throughout his journey to find a true purpose for his boy.

Hailing from New Zealand, Apa plays the teenaged Ethan (while Dennis Quaid plays him as an adult). Brand new to the world of feature films, Apa was in for a treat when he joined forces with veteran director Lasse Hallström. "This was my first film, and I did not know you could suggest different ideas to the director. In my television work previously, I did exactly what was on the page," says Apa. "Improvising came pretty easy for me."

Apa elaborates on the challenges he faced while playing Young Ethan: "The hardest part of the job was perfecting an American accent, and learning how to throw a football. I play rugby, and the throwing motion could not be more different."

On perfecting his American accent, Apa shares "I never actively went out and studied the American accent. I just came over here to the States and it was something I was able to do. Like, I never struggled with it. I used to talk to myself as a kid in an American accent. Other than that, I don't actually know why I can do it. It's an easy accent to do, I think, in terms of accents. It's harder for Americans to do a New Zealand accent than it is for a New Zealander to do an American accent. I think that's also because of how popular and how just broad all American culture is around the globe."

When he was shooting A Dog's Purpose, Apa made sure to have treats in his pockets to achieve the desirable response from his canine co-star.

"For the shots where the dog is running up to you and licking your face, you usually have treats in your hand," says Apa "They get the dog to sit, you go to your mark, and then the trainer will be like, `Go,' and the dog will run over to you because it knows that you have a treat and it will eat that treat. It's funny, I had a thing with Britt [Robertson] where we had to do this kissing scene in the car. It was scripted that the dog comes up in between us while we're kissing and starts licking her face, and the only way to get the dog to do that was by rubbing chicken sauce on Britt's cheek. So that was kind of strange. Kissing while having chicken grease all over your face. It was real hot."

Asked what other kinds of roles does he hope to play in the future, Apa answers, "I'm still grasping what it means to be an actor. At the moment, I really want to do action. I feel like I really want to be more physical. And I feel like action movies will give that to me. I definitely want to make movies after doing A Dog's Purpose. I was thinking to myself, even while I was doing that, imagine if I could do this forever. Making movies is definitely something that I want to become more experienced at doing. I want to get away from the high-school jock."

Now playing across the Philippines, A Dog's Purpose is distributed by United International Pictures through Columbia Pictures.

Horror-Thriller Movie GET OUT Tops US Box-Office, Opens in Philippine Theaters in March 15

Universal Pictures' Get Out, a new horror-thriller about race relations, rode critical raves to a smashing box office debut at No.1 for the Feb. 24 – 27 weekend, according to Variety.

The low-budget film was the weekend's top-grossing domestic release, earning $30.5 million, and propelling its director and writer Jordan Peele atop Hollywood's A-list. The film, which centers on a black man who discovers that his girlfriend's liberal, lily-white hometown is guarding a sinister secret.

Get Out also extends Blumhouse Productions' hot hand. The film company scored earlier this year with Split, a thriller about a man with a personality disorder that racked up $130.8 million stateside on a $9 million budget. Universal distributed, marketed, and partnered on both movies.

"It's entertaining, it's thought-provoking, and it's subversive," said Nick Carpou, Universal's domestic distribution chief. "I have seen ['Get Out'] play with audiences. They enjoy themselves and they're telling their friends."

Box office sages argue that Blumhouse is becoming synonymous with the horror genre in a way that is resonating with consumers. Its lineup of hits includes Sinister, Insidious, and Paranormal Activity. They also praise the company's fiscal conservatism (most of its movies carry budgets that are less than $10 million), and its emphasis on storytelling.

"The best special effect is a great script," said Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst with comScore. "It proves a great movie and a well executed story doesn't have to cost a ton of money."

In Universal Pictures' Get Out, a speculative thriller from Blumhouse (producers of The Visit, Insidious series and The Gift) and the mind of Jordan Peele, when a young African-American man visits his white girlfriend's family estate, he becomes ensnared in a more sinister real reason for the invitation.

Now that Chris (Daniel Kaluuya, Sicario) and his girlfriend, Rose (Allison Williams, Girls), have reached the meet-the-parents milestone of dating, she invites him for a weekend getaway upstate with Missy (Catherine Keener, Captain Phillips) and Dean (Bradley Whitford, The Cabin in the Woods).

At first, Chris reads the family's overly accommodating behavior as nervous attempts to deal with their daughter's interracial relationship, but as the weekend progresses, a series of increasingly disturbing discoveries lead him to a truth that he could have never imagined.

Equal parts gripping thriller and provocative commentary, Get Out is written and directed by Peele (Key and Peele) and produced by Blumhouse's Jason Blum, as well as Sean McKittrick (Donnie Darko, Bad Words), Edward H. Hamm Jr. (Bad Words) and Peele.

The film also stars Caleb Landry Jones (X-Men series), Stephen Root (No Country for Old Men), Milton "Lil Rel" Howery (The Carmichael Show), Betty Gabriel (The Purge: Election Year), Marcus Henderson (Pete's Dragon) and Lakeith Stanfield (Straight Outta Compton).

Opening across the Philippines on March 15, Get Out is distributed by United International Pictures through Columbia Pictures.

Be a Boracay Hero via SKYathon Boracay Beach Run on April 22

SKYathon, SKY Cable Corporation’s annual beach run, returns to Boracay on April 22 for its 8th year of raising awareness and funds to sustain the island’s excellent natural beauty and rich marine ecosystem.

For two years now, SKYathon aims to help restore the island’s coral reefs by raising funds to purchase reef nurseries via the Coral REEFurbishment project in partnership with Boracay Foundation, Inc.

In fact, SKY Cable is dedicated to support the advocacy on a long-term basis.

Boracay has given so much to Filipinos and it is only fitting that we return the favor by helping the country’s world-class island remain beautiful. SKY is committed to uphold this advocacy through SKYathon,” Jaynalen Redondo, SKY Cable’s airtime sales marketing head said.

SKYathon returns this year with the foremost running event organizer in the country, Coach Rio, as race partner.

According to a DENR assessment conducted in September 2015, coral bleaching, unregulated diving, and the spread of crown-of-thorns starfish have caused damage on Boracay’s coral reefs. The rehabilitation project can help coral reefs to recover for Boracay to maintain a healthy coastal marine ecosystem.

The highly anticipated destination run will happen on April 22 (Saturday) at the Epic Beach Front (station 2). Gunstart at 6AM. Aspiring SKYathon runners can choose from a 3K (P500), 5K (P600), and 10K (P800) beach run. A race kit includes a singlet, timing chip, loot bag, and a finisher’s medal.

Be a hero for Boracay this summer by joining the SKYathon beach run. For more information on registration, interested racers can visit www.skyathon.com and www.runrio.com/skyathon-2017.

Updates are regularly provided in its official Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/SKYathon). The online registration is open until April 10, 2017.

Other registration venues include the Boracay Foundation Inc. office located on the 2nd floor of AKY Gasoline Station, Main Road, Manocmanoc, Boracay Island, Chris Sports branches in SM Megamall, SM North Edsa (Main), SM MOA, Glorietta 3, Robinsons Ermita, and D’Mall Boracay; as well as Rudy Project Branches in Alabang Town Center, The Podium Trinoma, SM MOA, SM Cebu, Robinsons Cebu, and D’Mall Boracay.

Its properties have expanded beyond pay TV. SKY now has One SKY Premium (cable, broadband, and mobile internet unlimited bundles), One SKY Lite (cable, broadband, and mobile internet consumable bundles), SKYmobi (mobile internet), SKY On Demand (video-on-demand), SKYdirect (direct-to-home), SKYcable, and Destiny Cable (cable television).

How To Catch Joseph Marco and Tom Rodriguez' Attention in 5 Easy, Sexy Tricks #MahabahabangInuman

Imagine this: You are caught inside a crowded bar full of gorgeous looking lass. Here comes an equally good-looking machete entering the door...and the whole world stops. Knowing how stiff the competition would become, you need to think fast of the most effective ways to stand-out in the crowd and get notice.

But how?

I know for sure you, regardless of your gender preference, have come across this situation once in your colorful, active life. In such situation, beauty is not enough. You need to have the guts, ability and tricks to make the guy fall on your trap.

Recently, I chanced upon this TVC featuring Kapamilya and Kapuso hunk actors Joseph Marco and Tom Rodriguez as chick magnets while drinking in a bar. The ad has this catchy opening line "5 Signs a Girl is Interested in you" and it goes to list the said signs. It got me thinking, "Have I ever done such things?" The conservative side of me is screaming "Hell, no!" but then a flashback of the awkward moments that I had with my crush flashed through my eyes.

I did play with my hair as the guy I liked passed by me (Sign no. 1- check!). Did I bit my lip? I might have unconsciously did so (Sign no. 2- check!). Did I turn my body towards him? I might have unknowingly done so as I repeatedly stole glances from him (Sign no. 3 and 4- check!). Did I ask him if our drinks were the same? Well, I haven't gotten to do it yet since I don't have the guts to approach him. But who knows? Maybe if one day, I will have enough courage to do so.

If given the chance that I'd brush shoulders with a man like Joseph Marco or Tom Rodriguez (insert #fangirl here) on one of these nights, I might have not just completed the 5 signs but have done more than enough to make him notice me. Come on, that's Joseph and Tom right in front of you. Wouldn't you feel the same way if you are an avid fan like me?

C'mon dear ladies, don't tell me that you haven't done any of the signs seen on the TVC because surely you have done one of them unknowingly, no matter how conservative of a person you are. So to my fellow gals out there, watch out! The guys out there already has an ace on their hand. Thanks to this ad, they have a perspective on how to spot us - the women who are interested in them.

I am crossing my fingers that there will also be an ad like this that gives us girls a perspective on how to spot a guy who is interested on us- just to make the game of attraction fair.

Birit Queens Angeline, Jona, Klarisse and Morissette, from ASAP Stage to TFC's 20th Anniversary in Abu Dhabi on April 7

What started as a musical collaboration has now become the most-awaited quartet of the most powerful singers in the country - "Birit Queens."

This April 7, industry and entertainment pillars The Filipino Channel (TFC) and ASAP, will bring the live performances from the Philippines to the Middle East.

As part of TFC's 20th anniversary, the premier network brings no less than Morissette Jona, Klarisse and Angeline together to jumpstart the celebrations via "ASAP Birit Queens."

As a purveyor of Filipino talent across the world, TFC selected the four singers because they have not only held their own because of their unique singing prowess but have also emerged winners from life challenges, just like how overseas Filipinos (OFs) in the region have.

From a newbie who impressed at "Star Power: Sharon's Search for the Next Female Pop Superstar," Angeline Quinto has come a long way and is now known as Queen of Teleserye Themes or the voice behind the most iconic teleseryes.  Her singing career started as a dream so she knows how it is for overseas Filipinos, whose journey started from life goals.

For Angeline the fact that kababayans go out of their way to watch the show means a lot for her: "Despite their hardships, they chose to buy a ticket to watch us.  I guess this is like their 'me' time."  The singer stresses: "This drives me and the other Birit Queens, to deliver one good show."

While she has found her home in ABS-CBN later among the four singing royalties, Jona has proven to be a favorite Kapamilya performer for her powerful performances.  While this will be her second time in Abu Dhabi, this will be her first Kapamilya event.  "It's (Birit Queens) an opportunity for me to perform forkabayans.  When we dedicate and perform songs which they can relate with, it makes the experience even more memorable," theFearless Diva shares.

From first season of "The Voice's" 1st runner up, Klarisse has now moved to the front row as a known soul singer.  She understands how it is to be in the sidelines, especially in a foreign land.  Klarisse says: "We know that ourkabayans in the Middle East work so hard and miss their families.  Because of these concerts, they (OFs) are excited because it brings them back to the Philippines."

Also a product of "The Voice," Morissette has now become a sought-after concert performer in and outside the Philippines, earning her the tag The Next Big Diva

While she has been to other parts of the world she is excited to perform in the Middle East because this will be her first time to perform in the country.  "We have one goal – to relive our kabayans' homesickness.  I am looking forward to see how our kabayans will react," Morissette muses.

Together, they will set the stage on fire with their performances of their own hits, iconic Original Pilipino Music (OPM), classics and covers of Billboard Top 100.

Filipinos in the Middle East are invited to the "ASAP Birit Queens" on April 7 at the National Theater of Abu Dhabi, Old Airport St., Abu Dhabi.  Gates open at 4p.m., and show starts at 6 p.m. Tickets are at AED 250 for Platinum, AED 165 for Gold; AED 95 for Silver.

For tickets, interested parties can visit emea.kapamilya.com.  Get one free ticket if you avail of four tickets under the Barkada Promo (applicable to Gold and Silver categories).

Meet ALEX ROE, The Male Lead Star of New Horror-Thriller Movie RINGS

British actor Alex Roe has quickly established himself as one of Hollywood's emerging film stars. Now, he stars in Paramount Pictures' new horror-thriller Rings, the new chapter in the beloved RING horror franchise.

In the film, a young woman (Matilda Lutz) becomes worried about her boyfriend (Roe) when he explores a dark subculture surrounding a mysterious videotape said to kill the watcher seven days after he has viewed it. She sacrifices herself to save her boyfriend and in doing so makes a horrifying discovery: there is a "movie within the movie" that no one has ever seen before…

Roe recently wrapped production on the indie coming-of-age drama Hot Summer Nights, and previously starred in the children's science fiction drama series The Fugitives for CITV and the BBC Television teen drama series The Cut. He has also appeared in numerous British television shows including Holby City, Doctors, Hollyoaks, and The Jury, among others. In 2014, he was cast in the lead role of Luke Holt in ABC Family's drama pilot Unstrung. Roe currently resides in Los Angeles.

Q: Could you tell us about your childhood and how you got into acting?

Alex Roe: I grew up in West London, playing soccer a lot and playing a lot of sports. That and acting were always the two things that I flipped between. And sometimes acting would take the lead, and sometimes football would. But acting was always where my passion was and that is what I think I was good at.

Q: What was the first thing that got you into acting?

Roe: Oh I just loved movies. Just growing up, I always loved, probably watched movies I shouldn't have watched. Like American History X, when I was like thirteen. Just loving movies is what got me into it. And also just being really interested in other people and what makes people tick. From quite a young age, from being quiet and pathetic I think. And just being the kind of person that is interested in lots and lots of things, and gets obsessed with things really quickly.

Q: What was your first acting project?

Roe: My first acting project was a funny one. I did a commercial for this thing called Milky Way. The chocolate Milky Way. The whole thing I was at was really, really fun. But then everyone in my area where I grew up would call me the "Milky Way Kid". So I got a lot of grief for that.

Q: Do you have any favorite TV shows?

Roe: Peaky Blinders. I think Cillian Murphy is one of the best actors of our generation. And obviously when Tom Hardy came on in the second season, that was pretty awesome too.

Q: Favorite food?

Roe: I miss, this is so English, but I miss a really good Cornwall fish and chips. They just know how to batter a fish out there. They just know how to do it.

Q: 70′s rock music is your favorite… Any certain bands?

Roe: Oh, loads. I'm kind of into a bit of Led Zeppelin, a little bit of AC/DC. And then I like a little but of punk too. So kind of going into The Ramones and stuff like that. But I've got quite an eclectic taste really. I just like good music.

Q: Do you have any obsessions in life?

Roe: Soccer. I play literally three times a week. I'm obsessed with soccer. And I watch it a lot as well.

Q: Do you have any pet peeves?

Roe: Um… Fake people.

Q: Who is your celebrity crush?

Roe: You know, Brie Larson is so cute and cool. I'd love to meet her.

Opening across the Philippines on February 22, Rings is distributed by United International Pictures through Columbia Pictures.

KONG: SKULL ISLAND - A Thrilling New Adventure About Screen's Greatest Monster

Larger than life. Last of his kind. King of Skull Island. First unleashed more than eight decades ago, King Kong has thundered off the big screen and into our world with a force that echoes through our collective consciousness still. Now the time has come to restore the crown of the greatest movie monster myth of all, with Warner Bros. Pictures' new action-adventure Kong: Skull Island.

A compelling, original adventure from director Jordan Vogt-Roberts, Kong: Skull Island tells the story of a diverse team of scientists, soldiers and adventurers uniting to explore a mythical, uncharted island in the Pacific, as dangerous as it is beautiful. Cut off from everything they know, the team ventures into the domain of the mighty Kong, igniting the ultimate battle between man and nature. As their mission of discovery becomes one of survival, they must fight to escape a primal Eden in which humanity does not belong.

Kong: Skull Island stars Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson, Oscar winner Brie Larson, John Goodman and John C. Reilly. The international ensemble cast also includes Tian Jing, Corey Hawkins, Jason Mitchell, John Ortiz, Thomas Mann, Shea Whigham, Toby Kebbell and Eugene Cordero.

"Kong represents all the mystery and wonder that still exists in the world," says Kong: Skull Island director Jordan Vogt-Roberts. "That's why he will never stop being relevant."

The legend and iconography of Kong continue to strike consistently deep yet wildly varying chords with generations of fans. "A lot of things define Kong—his size, his power, his animal nature, but also his heart and huge depth of soul," observes producer Mary Parent. "He keys into our natural affinity for other primates, and his gestures and expressions are much more humanlike than even natural primates - which is what has always set Kong apart from other monsters. Even though he's a terrifying predator, it's impossible not to root for him. In some ways, he's been more like the classic romantic hero than a villain."

King Kong was originally conjured by revolutionary special effects master Willis H. O'Brien and sculptor Marcel Delgado to be the enigmatic central figure and unquestionable heart of Merian C. Cooper and Ernest B. Schoedsack's groundbreaking 1933 classic "King Kong"—a dazzling mash-up of Beauty and the Beast, high adventure and giant monsters that would shock and awe millions of moviegoers across the world. It played to sold-out crowds at the height of the Great Depression and broke records through decades of re-releases and television airings. It was the original effects-driven blockbuster and monster movie milestone, and has been remade, parodied and spun-off on every sized screen. Kong has also become embedded in pop culture, inspiring everything from video games to hip hop lyrics to college dissertations, and deploying armies of action figures, models, toys and games.

Kong's defiant end from high atop the Empire State Building is among the most iconic of all time. But for fans - and Tull counts himself among them - his provocative beginning remains the Holy Grail of origin stories. In fact, his long-held goal of a 21st century MonsterVerse wouldn't be complete without it. The producers brought in writers Dan Gilroy, Max Borenstein and Derek Connolly to craft the screenplay from a story by John Gatins. Tull states, "One of the most fascinating elements of the Kong lore is Skull Island - a place with the most exotic, lethal food chain you can imagine, and Kong is the alpha predator keeping the rest at bay. That's the mythology we wanted to crack open in this film. Our characters are not taking Kong off the island. They have to survive his domain."

For Vogt-Roberts, "King Kong" had been the entrée to a lifelong obsession with film. "'King Kong' is legitimately film history, and when I first saw the 1933 film, it completely shattered my brain with its endless cinematic possibilities," he says. "It was the first movie to transport audiences to an uncharted, untamed world. Though it was on our own planet, we were confronted with things that we were told couldn't exist here."

A self-described "nerd," the Detroit-born filmmaker came of age on a steady diet of monster movies, summer blockbusters and video games. His discovery of '70s cinema would be the flashing neon sign guiding him forward into making movies of his own. Though that generation's bold, brash, socially conscious films had been produced long before Vogt-Roberts was even born, they spoke directly to his own contemporary experience and sensibility. "The '70s are like a weird black mirror of our modern world," he notes. "Everything that was happening then - political scandals, civil unrest, divisive wars, distrust of the government - reflects exactly what's happening right now. At the same time, the `70s was kind of the last time when science and myth could co-exist. Since then, we've been on a slow quest to destroy the unknown."

"Kong: Skull Island" marked only the second film - and by far the biggest - that Vogt-Roberts has made, but he was undaunted. He reflects, "What guided me through this epic journey was to create an experience for the audience that will feel so real that it will open up a space for myth and mystery in their lives. Even though we're making a completely new movie with, with a very different narrative…this is King Kong."

Opening across the Philippines in 2D, 3D in select theatres, and IMAX beginning March 9, 2017, Kong: Skull Island is distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.
