Nick Jonas’ “Home,” an OST of “Ferdinand” Scores Golden Globes 2018 Nomination

Set in Spain, the delightful movie "Ferdinand" tells the remarkable story of a gentle bull, voiced by John Cena, a gentle giant who prefers flowers to fighting and has no desire to face off against matadors in the bullring. It follows Ferdinand as he embarks on a thrilling, dangerous and fun-filled journey to find love, acceptance and a real home. 'Home' is also the title of the new song from Jonas, about the place where people (and bulls) can relax and be themselves.

From the award-winning Blue Sky Studios, "Ferdinand" was directed by Carlos Saldanha. Based on the classic 1936 children's book of the same name, by author Munro Leaf and illustrator Robert Lawson, the film also stars Saturday Night Live's Kate McKinnon as the voice of Lupe the goat.

We join Ferdinand as he sets off on an adventure looking for somewhere he can call home. He comes across an idyllic farm, befriends the kind farmer and his little girl, Nina, and finds happiness and peace in the flower-filled countryside. But Ferdinand is torn apart from his adoptive family after he's mistaken for a vicious beast and he ends up in a bull training camp, the last place he wants to be! Developing a friendship with a quirky and hilarious 'calming' goat called Lupe (Kate McKinnon) Ferdinand has one goal - to get back home to Nina's farm.

It is a theme that resonates strongly with Nick Jonas who wrote and performed the song 'Home' for the film. He collaborated with acclaimed musician Justin Tranter and songwriter/producer, Nick Monson. According to Carlos Saldanha, 'Home' captures the spirit of Ferdinand. "I wanted a song to reflect the lightness and the power of the film, and I wanted it to feel emotional and fun, just like the movie. Nick wrote brand new lyrics and a brand new melody for us and it was perfect. 'Home' plays in the film at a very empowering moment for Ferdinand, when he finds a place where he's accepted. The song is wonderful and reflects the idea that home is a place where your heart is and where you can be your true self."

Jonas shares that, "I've used the word 'home' in songs before but this was the first time that I really sat and thought about what it meant to me, what I was saying with that word and the significance of that message. For me, it's all about my family. Any time I think about the moments of my life that are really hectic and insane, I think about home. If I look back at the 12 or 13 years of my career so far, it is family that has been the constant in my life. So I wrote this song about my family and the importance of that grounding factor in life. That is what home is all about."

"I think the beauty of Ferdinand as a whole, is that it is highly relatable, no matter what your journey in life is all about, or what your circumstances are. It is about acceptance and it definitely relates to me. I went to regular school in my early life, when I was seven, eight and nine years old. At the same time, I was also doing Broadway shows in New York City. So during my school hours, I was spending time with other kids who didn't share the same interests as me. But when I was working, I'd be around adults who loved musical theatre and telling stories and singing and dancing. That was where I felt more accepted than when I was around kids my own age," concludes Jonas.

"Ferdinand" opens January 8 in cinemas from 20th Century Fox to be distributed by Warner Bros.

Coco Martin Debuts as Director via MMFF Entry “Ang Panday”

Coco Martin will be wearing various hats in his latest action-adventure film "Ang Panday", which is also one of the entries at the 43rd Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF), that will screen outside the Philippines via TFC@theMovies starting December 28.

"Ang Panday" is not only an iconic character inPinoy pop culture but it is also arguably one of most beloved Pinoy comic book heroes of all time as it embodies the ideals of truth and justice as well as the triumph of good over evil.

It should be noted that this is the very first full-length mainstream movie that Martin directed, produced, and starred on all at the same time.

"Mahirap po pala (It was hard)", Martin mused when asked about his directing debut. Despite the challenges and not having the benefit of formal training in film direction, the Prince of Philippine TV Series used his experience in doing independent films, mainstream films, and TV series on working on the film.

Martin started his career as an actor in indie movies, most notably in the films of Brillante Mendoza, and crossed over to mainstream as he transitioned to television, appearing in a consistent string of ABS-CBN's top-rating primetime teleseryes as well as to movies under a mammoth film outfit.

"Pangarap ko po talaga maging direktor (I have always dreamed of becoming a director)" he shares. "Kapag gusto mo ang ginagawa mo kahit gaano kahirap ine-enjoy mo 'yong bawat moment nang ginagawa mo (When you love what you do, despite the challenges, you will enjoy every moment of it)."

Aside from directing the film under his real nameRodel Nacianceno, he was also the one who developed the story of the film with Joel Mercado, which is the very first live-action film adaptation of Ang Panday – the beloved character created by writer Carlo J. Caparas and artist Steve Gan, that was made popular by the late Action King Fernando Poe Jr..

His active involvement as creative consultant of FPJ's Ang Probinsyano greatly forged his skill as a storyteller.

In this 2017 epic comeback of the iconic Pinoysuperhero, Martin plays Flavio III – the grandson of the original Panday. His life suddenly turns upside down when he realizes that his bloodline is destined to save humanity from the evil doings of Panday's immortal evil nemesis Lizardo (Jake Cuenca), who comes back from the world of darkness to once again bring havoc to the human race.

With Flavio III not knowing that his bloodline is the only one capable of destroying Lizardo, he will have to scour different worlds to be able to gain the trust of the mythical power of the legendary sword. And like the original beloved hero, Flavio III gets to meet various characters that will help him become the rightful heir to the revered name Ang Panday.

Conceptualizing the story, Martin had in mind his viewers, especially the younger generation to whom he wanted to introduce the legacy of the late Action King Fernando Poe Jr.

"Sobrang iniba ko po siya, kasi gusto ko ma-appreciate siya ang mga kabataan ngayon at siyempre ng henerasyon ng mga tatay", he states. "Kasi ang dami ng versions ng 'Ang Panday', so ginawa ko parang karugtong siya ng kuwento. Kaya 'yong Flavio na ginampanan ni FPJ, ako 'yong apo niya, 'yon ang bagong kuwento ng 'Ang Panday'."

Witness how Flavio III will fulfill his destiny as he transforms from a simple, Tondo-born (an area in Manila known for its bustling community)  man to the greatest Filipino hero of all time who will save his family and community from the clutches of the most terrifying evil man has ever known.

"Ang Panday" also stars Philippine Senator Lito LapidEddie GarciaMichael de MesaGloria RomeroJacklyn JoseDimples RomanaJeric RavalJaime FabregasJulio DiazMariel De LeonAwra BriguelaDennis PadillaCarmi MartinAlbert MartinezAgot Isidro, Ms. International 2017 Kylie VerzosaMccoy De LeonElisse Joson, and Jhong Hilario among many others. Meantime, teaming up for the first time for this film are CCM Film Productions, Star Cinema, and Viva Films.

Martin as Flavio III will once again stand up for what is good and just as he valiantly champions the plight of the poor and the oppressed in the movie "Ang Panday", which will screen outside the Philippines via TFC@theMovies on the following dates and countries: Middle East on December 28; Barcelona, Spain on January 7 and Madrid, Spain on January 14; Greece on January 7; Australia and New Zealand on January 11; U.S. and Canada on January 12; United Kingdom on January 13 and 14; Austria on January 13 and 14; Italy on January 14; Hong Kong on January 21, and soon in other countries.

Jollibee Pays Tribute to OFWs this Christmas with Tearjerking #KwentongJollibee Video

Christmas is the most anticipated celebration for Filipinos. Even before the month of December begins, carols fill the air, decors are put up, gifts wrapped, and balikbayan boxes start to arrive from overseas. It's a scene all too familiar for a lot of Filipinos - loved ones who are working abroad send a boxful of gifts and goodies to make their presence felt on Christmas as they celebrate the season away from their families.

The latest #KwentongJollibee "Pamaskoputs the spotlight on what most OFW families have on their wish list - to be able to celebrate Christmas together.

"For nearly four decades now, Jollibee has been a part of Filipinos' lives here in the country and has been bringing a taste of home for our kababayans abroad," said Francis Flores, Jollibee's Global Brand chief marketing officer and Jollibee Philippines marketing head. "In this short film on the journey of OFW families, #KwentongJollibeeshares with everyone the true meaning of the holidays - more than the material things, it is about sharing our time, love, and joy with our families."

Stemming from the well-received #KwentongJollibee"Apo," "Pamaskohighlights the plight and sacrifices of Filipino migrant workers in order to give their children and extended families a better life in the country - even if it means being away from each other.

The feature film hits close to home for a lot of Filipinos who have loved ones working overseas - the story of joy despite the hardships, finding comfort in enjoying the taste of home abroad with Jollibee, and hiding the pain and longing by shipping balikbayan boxes on Christmas.

Robi Domingo Unveils Japan’s Hidden Christians on ANC’s “Keeping The Faith”

Robi Domingo, one of the country's finest television hosts, is taking a step outside his comfort zone as he anchors the three-part "Keeping the Faith" documentary about Japan's hidden Christians on ANC, the ABS-CBN News Channel.

Known for his playful and wacky style as host of various entertainment and reality programs in ABS-CBN, Robi gets to showcase his serious side and versatility in "Keeping the Faith," which airs on the country's leading English all-news cable channel on December 14, 28, and January 11 at 8pm.

In this three-part travelogue, Robi tells the story of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the name of God. He gets to visit to the ancient sites where the original Christians congregated to pray and worship and get to know about the Kakure Kirishitans (Hidden Christians) who went underground to practice their religion in secret.

Robi, who also hosted the "Lakwatsero" travel documentaries on ABS-CBN before, said this project came at the right time in his life. "After everything that happened in my life this year, I really needed to hold on to God. It is in this trip that I became closer to Him," he said.

He added his experience learning about the lives of Christians in their nine-day shoot reminded him of the movie "Eat Pray Love," which is about faith in your God and in oneself.

"I really felt it was impossible to do that documentary in nine days but the team is so good and there's this power which made that all happen. There were instances that a shoot wouldn't push through because of the weather, or snow wouldn't fall in the mountains, but there was divine intervention that happened," he shared.

Overall, the "Pinoy Big Brother" alumnus said his experience doing the documentary taught him that the more you go out of your comfort zone, the more you get to know about yourself. "You get to be immersed in different situations wherein you would not just question yourself, not just your life, but everyone's existence. It's not right to compare your life to another man's life, and your place to another man's place, but it all boils down to that 'Wow' feeling that everything became possible because of this one being who created everything," he explained.

Working with Robi in this documentary is producer Kelvin Paulino, who is also behind the award-winning "Mukha" series of ANC. Kelvin said people should watch out as Robi takes on a role as a true influencer for the youth starting in this documentary.

"We tapped him in this project as a gateway for possible partnerships in the future where we can hopefully engage the younger market in more relevant conversations. There were a few adjustments in the beginning of production but Robi easily found his voice in telling this different story," he said.

On the documentary, Kelvin added it will be interesting for viewers to see the many similarities to our own experience as Filipinos in the evangelization of the Spanish centuries back.

Robi added the documentary will also appeal to travel bugs and millennials because of the scenic places and great food in Japan that they will showcase in the documentary. "Filipinos love to travel, especially the millennials. If they watch the docu they will have a feel that they are travelling with me in that whole experience."

The host shared viewers can also expect some "hugot" comments while he explores the beautiful places in Japan, as well as hole-in-the-wall restaurants with their secret menu which people would like to check out when they visit the country.

Don't miss Keeping the Faith: The Story of Japan's Hidden Christians which will airs on ANC's Documentary Hour, on December 14, December 28, and January 11 at 8 pm on ANC and ANC HD. Watch online via iwantv.com.ph and skyondemand.com.ph. For updates, follow @ANCalerts on Facebook and Twitter.

TFC's “Citizen Pinoy” and myREMIT Bag Back-to-Back Wins at the Migration Advocacy and Media Awards

Inspired by the goal to honor media platforms and content which have become instruments for putting forth issues and solutions on migration, the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) honored ABS-CBN The Filipino Channel (TFC) for the 6th consecutive year since the launch of the Migration Advocacy and Media Awards (MAM), with this year's ceremonies awarding the premier network on December 18 at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Manila, Philippines.

CFO, the lead agency tasked to oversee the welfare of migrant Filipinos, bestowed back-to-back awards on TFC at the MAM Awards this year held right after the National Forum on MigrationBest Advertisement for myREMIT's "Papa's Boy" and Best in TV Journalism for "Citizen Pinoy".  The MAM awards is a recognition bestowed during the celebration of the Month of Overseas Filipinos, to underscore the work and importance of various platforms that tackle issues, propose solutions and help alleviate the conditions of OFs in general.

Ma. Regina Galias, interim officer in charge of CFO shared: "Media has become a very strong force in society right now. Prevalent is the discussion on truth in news and our communities and society need truth about what's happening outside the country about our kababayans (fellowmen) abroad.  So we're happy that through the MAM awards we are able to locate and find out about the advocacies of media outside the Philippines – to really share the good news of what's happening outside and not only bad news about OFs. Let's change the narrative of migration".
Galias shared that both entries affected her on different levels: "I am especially fond of stories about how Filipinos, like health workers, are able to help other nationalities and contribute to other countries; and how people like Atty. Gurfinkel, who may not be Filipino by blood, are willing to help Filipinos through their own advocacies", Galias ended.
"Papa's Boy" is myREMIT, TFC's remittance brand's first award under the CFO's MAM Awards.  The campaign's TV commercial is entitled as such because it talks about how a father is ready to make sacrifices for his son.  It shows how overseas Filipinos especially take that extra sacrifice, both physical and psychological, just to earn for his family's keep.  In the commercial, a father is seen leaving the family, his child only in his elementary years. The reunion after a decade is heartbreaking, with the father reversing roles with his already grown son, now guiding him through as the physically stronger one.

Business Unit Head for Remittance Raymond Abogwas proud of the achievement and more so on the message that the TVC was able to share: "
We are so humbled and honoured as this award recognizes the solemn and sacred sacrifices of our overseas Filipinos and their loved ones".

TFC won its first Best Advertisement award in 2012 for "Bida ang Pasko On Duty", a tribute to OFs who reported for work during Christmas, a time when most are with families; a second in 2013 also for "Isang Katuparan ng Pangarap", also a merchandising plug that shows how dreams are fulfilled albeit with sacrifices; and in 2014 for "Graduation: Full of Gratitude", a merchandising plug that showed how children paid homage to their OF parents in tearful video.

Meantime, TFC also won for Best TV Program for its sixth consecutive year for "Citizen Pinoy".  Hosted by celebrated migration lawyer Atty.Michael Gurfinkel, the show which aids Filipinos in need of legal support through dramatization and advice, won its first Best TV Program award in 2011.

Receiving the award personally this year was "Citizen Pinoy" host and crusader Atty. Michael Gurfinkel
"Each time, I am really humbled and honored by the award because of what it represents – a recognition of what the overseas Filipinos are and the sacrifices they have made including leaving their families behind.  To help them out is truly rewarding humbling".
Apart from the fulfillment, the award is as Gurfinkel added, an inspiration to do more: "I feel a continued sense of responsibility to my audience of providing updates on immigration news, procedures and policies and how to go about legalizing their status.  Before Citizen Pinoy, people would typically rely on gossip, myths etc. and they would get advice from people who didn't know anything and these Filipinos get themselves in deeper trouble. So, our continuing obligation is to provide information, updates and pagasa (hope).

Meantime, the Best Advertisement Award was received for Business Unit Head Raymond Abog byEric Martin Santos, former Marketing Head for myREMIT and now Segment Business Unit Head for Asia Pacific for ABS-CBN Asia Pacific.  Santos received the award along with Francis Bryan Lua,producer of "Papa's Boy".  The TVC was directed by Charlie Bebs Gohetia.

"Citizen Pinoy can be seen Sundays at 6:15 p.m. Pacific time with replays Mondays, 4:30 a.m. Pacific time.  It can also be seen in Europe, Asia and Australia.

Ces Orena-Drilon Resigns from Bandila, Takes On New Roles as ABS-CBN Lifestyle Content Head

Award-winning broadcast journalist Ces Orena-Drilon is ready to open a new chapter in her career in media with her appointment as content acquisition head of the ABS-CBN lifestyle ecosystem Group as she bid goodbye to "Bandila" viewers Thursday (December 21).

Known for her courageous reporting as a reporter of ABS-CBN and her insightful interviews and inspired storytelling as one of the network's most trusted news anchors, Ces now oversees all lifestyle-related content sourcing, acquisition, and development as ABS-CBN pushes further into the digital space and further into creating more local programming.

In her new assignment, Ces is in the forefront of building the lifestyle content of ABS-CBN as the country's leading media and entertainment company transitions into an agile digital company.

Never to shy away from a challenge, the social media-savvy anchor is excited to put into use more than three decades of experience in news media to lead the Kapamilya media and entertainment company in finding and producing lifestyle stories for different audiences.

"It is invigorating to be in the middle of the changes happening in the entire media industry. The way people consume content nowadays is digital. Feedback is so instantaneous and measurement is very clear. As the content head of the lifestyle ecosystem, I get to play a role in addressing the needs of different lifestyle markets, taking in consideration the continuous evolution of technology and communication," explained Ces.

With her new role in ABS-CBN, Ces is stepping down as one of the anchors of the late night newscast "Bandila," which began in 2006 with her as one of its original anchors.

ABS-CBN head of integrated news Ging Reyes, meanwhile, stated her full support for Ces in her new endeavor. ABS-CBN's news chief has been instrumental in this shift in her career after appointing her as News Lifestyle Ecosystem head last year.

"I am very happy that she is evolving. Her journalistic skills and her mastery of storytelling that she developed through the years working in the field and as an anchor will surely come in handy as she leads in building up the lifestyle content of ABS-CBN in line with the company's digital thrust," she shared.

Ging also thanked the multi-awarded journalist for her contributions to ABS-CBN News since she began as a business reporter for "The World Tonight" to becoming part of various INCA programs including "Pipol," "The Correspondents," "I Survived," "Krusada," and "Bandila" on ABS-CBN and "Business Nightly," "Pointblank," "Get Real," and "The Rundown" on ANC, the ABS-CBN News Channel.

"No one can question the passion and excellence Ces has shown throughout her career here in ABS-CBN. She never backed down from any assignment. She did not quit even after being kidnapped while pursuing a story. She will be missed in the field but she will continue to play a big role beyond news in her new capacity," she said.

Ces was awarded by the KBP with the  "Ka Doroy Broadcaster of the Year" in 2010. In 2017, she was among People Asia's "People of the Year," where she was recognized for setting "high standards, provided industry benchmarks or pushed the envelope in innovative ideas and programs."
