ABS-CBN News Wins Cannes Award for Documentary Series MUKHA

ANC’s documentary series “Mukha” won the Silver Dolphin award at the recently held 7th Cannes Corporate Media and TV Awards

Quezon City, Philippines (December 1, 2016) - ANC, the ABS-CBN News Channel, recently made history after its “Mukha” documentary series snagged a Silver Dolphin at the recently held 7th Cannes Corporate Media and TV Awards in Cannes, France. This is ABS-CBN News’ first trophy from the prestigious award-giving body.

The Cannes Corporate Media and TV Awards is conferred annually to honor the world’s finest corporate films, online media and TV productions, in one of the most important film centers, the world-renowned Cannes, France.

“Mukha” won in the Current Affairs, Human Concerns & Social Issues category for its episode “Sisid,” which is about a father who dives underwater for sand as a way to make a living.

ABS-CBN Integrated News & Current Affairs Head Regina “Ging” Reyes accepted the award, together with “Mukha” executive producer Hera Sanchez, producer Kelvin Paulino, and DocuCentral and “Mukha” director Dan Buenaventura.

Reyes said “Mukha’s” historic win was a welcome surprise for the team, who only wanted to share the plight of sand divers in the Davao River.

This particular documentary shows us what the Filipino is made of, no matter his status in life. It is very heartwarming for us in ABS-CBN News to know that there are people who really give help to the people we have featured in Mukha,” she said.

Meanwhile, Paulino, one of the episode’s producers, said the award gives them motivation to continue doing what they do.

“We knew the story was special but we didn’t expect that their plight will also resonate with the international audience. The DocuCentral team is a small documentary team and this award affirms our mission to share the struggles and triumphs of the Filipino people,” he said.

“Mukha” is a world-class TV production of DocuCentral, the documentary arm of ABS-CBN. “Sisid” joins other “Mukha” episodes that also made it to other prestigious competitions such as “Aruga” (Finalist, 2016 New York Festivals), “Sagwan” (Finalist, UNICEF Child’s Rights Awards 2015; Nominee, Lasallian Scholarum Awards 2015), “Musmos (Finalist, UNICEF Child’s Rights Awards2015), “Titser” (Official Entry, Documentary Section, Cinemalaya 2015) and “Kamusmusan” (Nominee, Lasallian Scholarum Awards 2015).

Alexa Ilacad Shows Pop Rock Side in Debut Album ALEXA TO THE MOON AND BACK

Kapamilya teen actress Alexa Ilacad is more than just a pretty face. With a blossoming acting career and armed with singing talent, she is ready to dive into a new territory as Star Music’s newest pop rock artist.

Alexa, who considers singing her passion, got a taste of performing when she joined reality music competition “We Love OPM” and has been in love with it ever since.

Their first reaction was: Aren’t you an actress? Later on, they said that I was a revelation. I also realized that I love performing, especially with a live band. When the show ended, I truly missed singing and performing on stage,” she shared.

With the release of her debut album “To the Moon & Back” under Star Music, Alexa feels “grateful and blessed.”

Now I’m happier because I get to sing my own songs, and they are more personal,” she said.

“To the Moon & Back” contains the spunky carrier single “Pakipot, Suplado,” whose Kean Cipriano-directed music video was recently unveiled to the delight of her fans. It has also proven to be a hit because it has consistently charted in MOR 101.9’s “Biga10” list for weeks now.

Alexa is also proud to share that all the songs in her album are original and were written by Eunice Jorge, the vocalist of rock band Gracenote, one of her musical influences. These songs are “Not Too Young,” “Kung Pwede Lang,” “Kahit Saan, Kahit Kailan,” “Dream Boat,” and “Puso.”

Whoever listens to my songs will be blown away by how well-written they are. My fans are used to seeing me as an actress playing sweet or dramatic roles. In my album, I get to showcase my pop rock side – ‘yung ako talaga!” said Alexa.

The album also features her love team partner Nash Aguas, who sings with her on the acoustic version of “Kahit Saan, Kahit Kailan.”

“To the Moon & Back,” produced by Rye Sarmiento and Darwin Hernandez, can now be streamed on Spotify and is now available at all record bars nationwide for only P199. Jennifer Aniston Cannot Stop an Epic, Unforgettably Over-The-Top OFFICE CHRISTMAS PARTY

Golden Globe and Emmy award-winner Jennifer Aniston stars in Paramount Pictures' Office Christmas Party as pragmatic CEO, Carol Vanstone who announces plans to shut down one of her underperforming branches days before Christmas.

Realizing no mere Holiday party can lift the spirits of his employees, eccentric branch president (and Carol’s kid brother) Clay Vanstone (T.J. Miller) enlists the help of Chief Technical Officer Josh (Jason Bateman), and Lead Systems Engineer Tracey (Olivia Munn) to make their own Christmas miracle by throwing an epic, unforgettably over-the-top Christmas party to win over a high profile client (Courtney B. Vance) and save everyone’s jobs.

We created this character for Jennifer because she’s absolutely fearless when it comes to playing somewhat unlikeable characters in comedies,” says director Josh Gordon. “For her, the more daring the role, the better.”

Rather than play Carol as a villain, Aniston framed her character in terms of her relationship with Clay in their youth. “I looked upon Carol as sort of a grown up Jeanie Bueller to Clay’s Ferris Bueller,” says Aniston. “She has incredible resentment toward him because he’s a goof off and got every break growing up. She’s wants to prove herself as the smartest, most competent person in the room. Sadly, she didn’t really develop her soft, fuzzy side.”

Aniston and Bateman were directors Will Speck and Gordon’s first choice for their respective roles, having worked with both previously on 2010’s The Switch. Office Christmas Party marks Aniston’s fifth collaboration with Bateman and second with Speck and Gordon.

Jen and Jason are very close friends,” says producer Scott Stuber. “They spend a lot of time together on and off camera, which results in their great chemistry. The relaxed, fluidity of their performance style really sets the tone for the whole cast.”

We’re all like family at this point,” says Aniston. “There’s definitely a shorthand and confidence as to how we all work together. If you have that trust, you can immediately tell one another what works and what doesn’t.”

The latest comedy from directors Josh Gordon and Will Speck (Blades of Glory, The Switch) co-stars Kate McKinnon, Olivia Munn, Jillian Bell, Rob Corddry, Vanessa Bayer, Randall Park, Sam Richardson, Jamie Chung, and Courtney B. Vance in the funniest movie of the holiday season.

Opening across the Philippines on December 07, Office Christmas Party is distributed by United International Pictures through Columbia Pictures.

Amy Adams Wins Best Actress for the Movie ARRIVAL

Amy Adams has just been proclaimed Best Actress by The National Board of Review (NBR), one of the most prestigious award-giving bodies in the US, during the group's announcement of its choices for outstanding achievement in film for 2016.

Adams won for her portrayal of a linguist tasked to communicate with aliens in Columbia Pictures' Arrival, which has also been seleced by NBR as one of the Ten Best Films of 2016.

Arrival is a provocative science fiction thriller from acclaimed director Denis Villeneuve (Sicario, Prisoners). When mysterious spacecraft touch down across the globe, an elite team - lead by expert linguist Louise Banks (Adams) - are brought together to investigate. As mankind teeters on the verge of global war, Banks and the team race against time for answers – and to find them, she will take a chance that could threaten her life, and quite possibly humanity.

Denis Villanueve has mentioned in an interview that Adams was his only choice to play the lead character. “Amy Adams was the actress I was dreaming of for this part because I knew that the audience would believe in this movie if the actress believed in it - everything is happening through her eyes.

Opening across the Philippines in February 2017 Arrival is distributed in the Philippines by Columbia Pictures, local office of Sony Pictures Releasing International.

Meet the Unlikely Heroes of ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY

Get to know the characters of Lucasfilm's “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” the first in a new series of Star Wars standalone movies. “Rogue One” tells the story of a group of unlikely heroes, who in a time of conflict band together on a mission to steal the plans to the Death Star, the Empire’s ultimate weapon of destruction. This key event in the Star Wars timeline brings together ordinary people who choose to do extraordinary things, and in doing so, become part of something greater than themselves.

Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) is an impetuous, defiant young woman who lends her skills to the Rebel Alliance and undertakes a desperate mission. Jones comments on her character, “I wanted Jyn to be as human as possible. She’s strong when she needs to be, she’s incredibly determined and she has to be tough when she doesn’t feel it. But at the same time there is enormous vulnerability.”

Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) is a respected Alliance intelligence officer. Describing his experience making the film, Luna says, “The film has many layers. There are moments that are deep and dramatic and deserve a lot of attention and rigor as actors. Then there are scenes that are just fun and it’s like choreography. You’re enjoying and having fun with the beat.”

Chirrut Îmwe (Donnie Yen) is a blind monk who is a skilled and artful warrior. “Donnie Yen has so much wisdom like his character and he’s got great humor,” says producer Allison Shearmur. “He has a sense of artistry and performance that tells us so much about his character. There’s an elegance, a heroism, a nobility about both Yen and Chirrut.”

Baze Malbus (Jiang Wen) is a pragmatic soldier, who has grown up with Chirrut and will follow his closest friend to the ends of the universe. Of his character, Jiang Wen says, “Ultimately, he’s a good man at heart and very honest and is very loyal to his friend Chirrut. And Chirrut’s friends are his friends.

Bodhi Rook (Riz Ahmed) is a cargo pilot who works for the Empire but changes course when faced with a harsh truth. Riz Ahmed says of his character: “Gareth described Bodhi as a guy in a war movie who isn’t supposed to be there. Everyone on the team is a soldier or warrior in some way and there’s this guy who is there by accident but realizes he has to step up and make himself valuable. He’s an everyman, someone audiences can relate to.”

K-2SO (Alan Tudyk) is a reprogrammed Imperial security guard now loyal to the Alliance. “Alan is like all great comic actors in that, as funny as he is, he can pull at your heart strings as well,” offers Gareth Edwards. “We didn’t want K2 just to be the comic relief. There is something slightly tragic about him trying to find his place in the world. There are moments of fun, but Alan gives him a soul.”

Saw Gerrera (Forest Whitaker) is an outlaw rebel, a man who believes that the Empire must be defeated, but at what cost? “Saw is very clear about what he believes,” says Whitaker about his character. “He’s willing to do things he thinks are necessary to save the people.”

Galen Erso (played by Mads Mikkelsen) is Jyn’s father and a brilliant scientist. On becoming part of the Star Wars family, Mikkelsen says, “It’s a big honor to be part of this legendary film universe. Something very interesting to me about Star Wars is that it’s quite human, even though we have Droids and different kinds of creatures that look very different from the human race.”

Director Krennic (Ben Mendelsohn) is the man behind the creation of the Death Star, a weapon he knows will allow the Empire to take full control of the galaxy through means of fear.

Opening across the Philippines on December 15, “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures through Columbia Pictures.
