What Makes Modern-day Mom Regine Velasquez-Alcasid Becomes a SuperMom

Moms are super women.

Aside from being the driving force of the household, many moms also play different roles in the work place and in the community. They are the ultimate multi-taskers, often having to sacrifice ‘me’ time for the sake of the family.

Balancing multiple responsibilities is a challenge, even for the toughest moms, but what’s probably most difficult is achieving peace of mind especially when they have to be away from the young ones.

What’s a mom got to do?

The answer is technology. These days, smart gadgets and high-speed internet can empower moms to be in control of the family’s safety and security.

Just ask Asia’s Songbird and modern-day mom Regine Velasquez – Alcasid. Mom to four-year-old Nathaniel James, more fondly known as Nate, Regine exemplifies the modern-day Filipino mom who strikes the balance between her hectic work schedule and her role as a family woman.

Technology helps me become a better mom,” she revealed. “Specifically, I get a lot of help from PLDT HOME.” Regine, who is also an ambassador for the brand, added, “They have a suite of products and services that are designed to give moms like me peace of mind through the power of technology. So far, super helpful talaga siya for me especially when I have to be away for work.”

Forefront of strongest connections at home

As the leader in digital innovations for the home, PLDT HOME designs its products and services to help parents like Regine effectively multi-task while ensuring the safety of their families. Two products which promote peace of mind among working moms are the Fam Cam and Smart Watch.

The Fam Cam is a home monitoring system which allows parents to check on their children remotely, and even communicate with them. The Smart Watch, a personal favorite of Nate, is a multi-functional gadget which kids can use to take photos, play music, and even record voice messages.

According to Regine, they use the Smart Watch to easily talk to Nate because he can directly answer calls using his watch when it is connected to their Telpad or a smart phone. The Alcasids also use it as a WiFi remote for the Telpad or smart phone cameras so it’s easier to take selfies or groufies wherever they are.

Regine also shared how the watch helps teach Nate to become more responsible and aware of his surroundings. Nate’s Smart Watch can come to the rescue using the anti-lost feature. He simply has to click on a button and the connected device will make a sound so it can be located. The Smart Watch will also vibrate if Nate goes more than 10 meters away from the paired device so if the Telpad or smart phone is with Mommy Regine or Daddy Ogie, it will remind him to go back to them.

Nate really loves his Smart Watch,” Regine said. “As a parent, this is a gadget na approve sa akin kasi I can really see that it helps us bond better as a family.”

New members of the PLDT HOME family

Following his mother’s footsteps, Nate was recently launched as the new ambassador for the Smart Watch.

We’re very excited to have Nate on board,“ PLDT VP and Home Marketing Director Gary Dujali said. “He represents the kids of his generation—perennially curious, smart and dynamic. Together with his mom, we look forward to reaching to more families and educating them about the ways technology can help bring them closer.”

Regine added, “Siyempre, I’m super proud of my baby boy! PLDT HOME is close to our hearts and as a family, we are proof that technology can really help make our lives safer and easier.”

PLDT HOME subscribers who upgrade to a Telpad plan automatically get a free 1Mbps HOME DSL speed boost, and for only an additional P199 per month, they can already top up with a Smart Watch. The watch is also available to existing Telpad subscribers. Simply order online and it will be delivered for free. For more information, visit

Top Comedians Come Together to Bring You SAUSAGE PARTY

Cinema's funniest and most talented comedians team up for Columbia Pictures' brave, new comedy “Sausage Party,” a recent No. 1 in the U.S.

Rated R-18 With No Cuts by the MTRCB, “Sausage Party” is about one sausage leading a group of supermarket products on a quest to discover the truth about their existence and what really happens when they become chosen to leave the grocery store

Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill, and Michael Cera play sausages (Frank, Carl, and Barry, respectively); Kristen Wiig plays Brenda, a bun; Salma Hayek plays Teresa, a taco; Danny McBride plays Honey Mustard; Edward Norton plays Sammy, a bagel; David Krumholtz plays Lavash; Bill Hader takes on Firewater; Craig Robinson plays grits; and Nick Kroll plays a douche. James Franco and Paul Rudd play human beings: Franco as Druggie and Rudd as Darren, a store clerk.

Frank leads the foods’ quest. “Frank is searching for the truth,” says producer Kyle Hunter. “All of the other sausages in his package believe that out of those doors is heaven, and he’s the only one who questions things. When he gets a nugget that something might be amiss, that’s where his journey begins.

Kristen Wiig plays Brenda, Frank’s bun of his dreams. “We found the Brenda character during the first recording session,” says producer Ariel Shaffir. “We had the general idea, but as Kristen started riffing a bit, she started throwing in these cheesy jokes. That’s when we realized, oh, Brenda is a jokester, one who thinks she’s funnier than she really is. We went and rewrote the character based on what she had done, and she took a whole new shape. It was awesome.”

Frank’s journey is set in motion when Honey Mustard spills the beans on what really happens outside of the store. “Honey Mustard is a southern war veteran type,” says producer James Weaver. “Danny McBride just kills that part.

Jonah Hill and Michael Cera join the fun as fellow sausages in Frank’s package. Hill plays Carl, “a super-supportive friend of Frank’s, who meets his demise,” says Weaver.

Cera, on the other hand, is Barry – “He transforms the most,” says Hunter. “He starts out meek and going with the flow, and through this journey finds his inner strength. He’s the one who gets outside the store and learns the truth in the worst possible way.

Edward Norton plays Sammy Bagel, Jr., having called dibs on the role from the beginning and refusing to let anyone else be cast in the part. “Edward was one of the first people we ever told about the project, and he kind of lost his mind for it,” says screenwriter Evan Goldberg. “He became obsessed very quickly.”

Norton also acted as something of a casting director – according to Rogen and Goldberg, Norton was instrumental in bringing Salma Hayek on board. “We didn’t really know her at all – I’d been at a dinner with her once,” says Goldberg. “She came in and went as hard as anyone else. She was literally sweating in the booth from jumping around. You understand why she’s such a successful, awesome star – she gives it her all.”

David Krumholtz plays Sammy’s nemesis of sorts, Lavash. “David Krumholtz has been attached to this project pretty much from the beginning,” says Hunter. “He formed this character with us for maybe six or seven years – he was in all the table reads we did. He’s wanted to play this role – he lived it. And he’s probably the funniest person I’ve ever seen in my life.

Bill Hader, who has voiced film roles in countless animated features, takes on the role of Firewater. “He’s the master of this stuff,” says Goldberg. “It’s one of the weirdest characters ever,” says Seth Rogen, “and then the animators came up with all of the hand gestures.”

Finally, James Franco plays a human character, Druggie. “I think people will watch the movie and not know it’s him, the same way they don’t think it’s Edward Norton as a bagel,” says Hunter. “Franco was the first actor who recorded with us, and he’s just a madman. It really worked.

Opening across the Philippines on September 28, “Sausage Party” is distributed by Columbia Pictures, local office of Sony Pictures Releasing International.

Pero ang mas mahalaga, siyempre, ay 'yung paghahanap sa katotohanan. I think, isa 'yun sa main na gustong ma-achieve ng character sa kuwento - malaman kung saan nagmula, sino ang may kagagawan ng lahat. Medyo komplikado.”

Apart from portraying another striking performance, he also shares his enthusiasm to work with the country’s esteemed actors to date. “Ang gagaling ng mga kasama ko dito. Mula sa international best actors and actresses, talagang mga mahal ko sa industriya ang makakasama ko dito. Understatement ang excited. Sobrang inspired ako ngayon.”

Playing equally vital roles in the series are:

Paolo Contis as Daniel Acosta, Sarri’s older brother and an honest and incorruptible police officer

Gary Estrada as Caloy, Pepe’s older brother

Grammy, Tony, and Olivier Winning Musical JERSEY BOYS Arrives in Manila

On Wednesday night, September 14, Atlantis Theatrical Entertainment Group (ATEG) officially announced the Manila production of the Tony, Olivier, and Grammy Award-winning musical “JERSEY BOYS,” the biographical musical based on the story of the legendary American doo-wop group Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons.

Leading the stellar cast are:

Acoustic balladeer Nyoy Volante in the coveted role of Frankie Valli, lead vocalist of the Four Seasons

Asian Pop Superstar Christian Bautista in the role of Bob Gaudio, singer-songwriter and keyboardist

“The Voice” finalist Nino Alejandro in the role of Nick Massi,

Bass player and singer-actor Markki Stroem in the role of Tommy DeVito, a founding member of the band

Directed by Bobby Garcia, “Jersey Boys,” features the music by Bob Gaudio, lyrics by Bob Crewe, the Four Seasons real-life record producer, and book by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice.

“Jersey Boys” tells the story of the Four Seasons' formation, meteoric rise and descent via four symbolic seasons told from the different and often contrasting points of view of the band members.

Garcia said,“We went through a long audition process with a different combination of boys. What we have now is the best combination we heard and once we begin rehearsals and they master the Four Seasons signature four-part harmonies, I think their sound will be quite thrilling.
With his immense charm and excellent singing voice, Christian brings that confident bravado that Bob Gaudio has; Nino has an amazing singing voice as well, and he is such an instinctive actor, while Markki is a great singer, too, a sensitive actor, and an extremely hardworking performer. He's been bugging the office daily for the script when he was offered the role of Tommy DeVito because he said he needed to get started working on it - that is how devoted and committed he is.”

“Jersey Boys” is also an ideal tribute to 40-year- friendship of Frankie, Bob, Nick, and Tommy.

As a singing group, originally called the Varietones, they went from singing on street corners in the various housing projects in Northern New Jersey to singing on national television as their songs, featuring Frankie Valli's trademark three-octave range and falsetto and a distinctive doo-wop sound, charted 24 Top-30 hits from 1962 to 1968. Their most popular songs include “Big Girls Don't Cry,” “Sherry,” “Walk Like A Man,” “Working My Way Back to You,” “Can't Take My Eyes Off You,” “My Eyes Adored You,” and “December 1963 (Oh What a Night).

Nyoy has that crazy high falsetto and I think it is perfect for the role of Frankie Valli. I just can't wait to hear him sing these songs,” said Garcia. “Jersey Boys is such a well-crafted biographic musical. It manages to both be a celebration of the unforgettable music of the Four Seasons and at the same time a gritty but heartfelt true-to- life tale of friendship, family, and stardom. Like any good musical, it has a fantastic story and bringing that story to life while at the same time honoring the legends who created the music is the challenge - it is also what excites me about the show, apart from our truly first-rate cast.

Joining Nyoy, Christian, Nino and Markki in this production are Jamie Wilson, Bibo Reyes, Nelsito Gomez, Mikkie Bradshaw-Volante, Yanah Laurel, Giannina Ocampo-Van Hoven , Altair Alonso, Steven Conde, Rhenwyn Gabalonzo, Emeline Carmela Guinid, Kendrick Ibasco, Gab Medina, and Timmy Pavino.

JERSEY BOYS run at the Meralco Theatre on the weekends from September 23 until October 16. Tickets are now on sale at or call Ten Bridges Media Corp. (632) 650 5144

Now in its 11th year on Broadway, “Jersey Boys” officially opened on Broadway at the August Wilson Theatre on November 6, 2005. In 2006, the show won the Tony Award for Best Musical, Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical (John Lloyd Young, who also played the role of Frankie Valli in the movie adaptation in 2014), Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Musical (Christian Hoff), and Best Lighting Design of a Musical (Howell Binkley). It also won Best New Musical at the 2008 Laurence Olivier Awards in London and Best Musical Show Album at the 2007 Grammy Awards. As of September 22, 2015, after setting a record of at least 4,093 performances, “Jersey Boys” has surpassed “Miss Saigon” as the 12 th longest-running show in Broadway history.

To date, the show has been seen by more than 23 million people worldwide and is currently playing in New York, Las Vegas, London, and in numerous cities across North America and the U.K. In Asia, an international touring production, starring an all-South African cast, played Singapore, South Korea, and Malaysia from November 2012 to April 2014.

Considered as America's most popular singing group before The Beatles, Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, alongside the Beach Boys, Motown, and Memphis soul, fought their way to the top of the music charts even during the phenomenal “Beatlemania,” The Rolling Stones, and British Invasion in the mid-60s. In 1990, the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for selling over 100 million records worldwide.

Why are Pinoys so Jolly and Joyful? Why is Philippines the Happiest Place to Live in the World?

There’s no doubt that Filipinos are among the jolliest people on the planet. Wherever one might go in this country, he or she will most definitely be met with a smile, a warm greeting, or a hearty laugh. Foreigners often wonder how an entire nation of over 100 million can extend kindness and good cheer even to complete strangers.

In the Gallup 2015 Positive Experience Index, the country ranked fifth in the list of happiest citizens in the world, despite the many socio-economic issues they face every day. However, these survey figures do not completely explain why many Filipinos consistently choose joy over negative emotions.

What’s the real secret behind the trademark Pinoy cheerfulness?

This is a question that Jollibee, the country’s number one fast food brand, answered in an online campaign released last September 10, 2016.
The answer might be as simple as the company we keep, the things around us that make us smile and the food we enjoy."

Jollibee, as a homegrown Filipino brand, is happy to answer why Pinoys are among the happiest people in the world,” said Francis E. Flores, Jollibee Global Chief of Marketing and Philippine Marketing Head. “Throughout Jollibee’s nearly four decades of serving the Filipino people all over the country and the world, we’ve discovered many reasons behind our innate joy, which we’re proud to showcase in the latest Chickenjoy Nation video.

The Jollibee team went around the country to observe the lives of ordinary Filipinos and seemingly simple reasons behind their day-to-day happiness. The “stars” of the video cited sense of humor, appreciation for music, an easy-going spirit, and good food (including Jollibee’s crispylicious and juicylicious Chickenjoy) as some of the core ingredients of Pinoy joy.

The video, however, implies something more profound about the Pinoy psyche: even in the most dismal of situations, the Filipino heart is filled with hope and optimism. Instead of focusing on the negative aspects of their lives and the circumstances they find themselves in, they smile, laugh the bad vibes away, they are always to sing and dance, and share their favorite meals with the people they value the most. For them, joy is something that can be discovered in even the most mundane of things they encounter every day.

Through our best-tasting Chickenjoy, we serve the perfect complement to our customers’ most joyful moments,” added Flores.  “We’ve made it our mission to unite Filipinos under one joy, one nation—a Chickenjoy Nation.

It's Final! Kris Aquino Leaves ABS-CBN In Favor of GMA-7

After 22 years as one of the top stars of ABS-CBN, Kris Aquino has decided to leave the network as she is set to do a TV project with APT Entertainment, Inc., which is closely associated with rival GMA-7.

Kris announced this on Monday in a series of posts in her Instagram page. She also confirmed she had a meeting with Kapamilya network last July but said that "there was no definite show and no assured time frame of my return on air."

"I perfectly understood- as much as I wanted to believe I was a pillar of the network, everybody is dispensable. And I say that with no bitterness- just HONESTY. So to all of you saying please don't leave- it wasn't a choice that was just mine to make. I take my share of the responsibility. And I say that with so much gratitude in my heart," she wrote.

She said it was her manager Boy Abunda who reached out to APT's Mr. Tony Tuviera.

"Our plan was initially just a digital initiative- I know you miss my #foodtrips & my #cooking #recipes #roadtrips & #travel... But maybe my guardian angel in heaven (could it have been you, Mom?) was working overtime & what was an attempt at something new & experimental, evolved into a vision & a presentation that felt perfect for who I am now & for our TV collaboration," Kris shared.

Kris expressed gratitude to ABS-CBN and her new "family."

"This is the 1st & last I shall say about this chapter of my life. You deserved the true story & I gave you my truth, so that we may all move forward... So here's a shoutout of THANK YOU to the Kapamilya Network ABS-CBN for all that was, and here's a shoutout of THANK YOU to my new APT family for all that will be. And most of all my THANK YOU to all of you for allowing me to just be me," she ended.

Kris hosted her solo talk show "Today With Kris Aquino" on ABS-CBN in 1996.

She also hosted "Morning Girls With Kris and Korina" with veteran broadcaster Korina Sanchez and "Boy & Kris" with friend Boy Abunda.

Kris was also one of the original hosts of the entertainment shows "The Buzz" and "Showbiz News Ngayon," both with Abunda, which helped earn her the title of "Queen of All Media."

At one point, she was also dubbed the "Queen of Game Shows" as she hosted "The Price Is Right," "Pilipinas Game KNB," "Kapamilya Deal Or No Deal" and "Wheel of Fortune."

She was also one of the hosts of the noontime variety show "Pilipinas Win Na Win" with Mariel Rodriguez and Robin Padilla, and was one of the original judges on "Pilipinas Got Talent."

Aside from hosting, Kris also acted on teleseryes like "Hiram," "Kung Tayo'y Magkakalayo," and "Kailangan Ko'y Ikaw." - ABSCBNNews
