Enchong Dee and Robi Domingo Join 'Knowledge Channel' on It's Mission to Uplift Filipinos from Poverty with 2 New Shows

In 1999, Knowledge Channel Foundation, Inc. (KCFI) started to revolutionize education in the Philippines by introducing learning resources aligned with the country’s basic education curriculum. It has become part of the learning journey of more than five million Filipino students that significantly enhanced their academic performance.

As Knowledge Channel celebrates its 17th anniversary, the all-educational channel launches two new shows titled “MathDali” and “AgriCOOLture” hosted by Kapamilya stars Robi Domingo and Enchong Dee to continue its mission of uplifting the lives of Filipinos from poverty through education.

“MathDali” aims to help Filipino students overcome their fear of learning math. The show features Kuya Robi (Robi Domingo), a math enthusiast who helps Igi Boy Flores, Vic Robinson III, and twins Joj and Jai Agpangan learn to love math and master the subject in their fun adventures.

Every episode shows a math concept through real-life situations that will allow students to have a positive mindset in learning math in new and exciting ways. The show is also inspired by the positive norms, key strategies, and classroom approaches by math education reformists Jo Boaler, Cathy Humphreys, and Ruth Parker and incorporating principles of Carol Dweck’s growth mindset.

Meanwhile, the Knowledge Channel-Landbank produced show “AgriCOOLture,” features Enchong Dee exploring the potential of ‘agri-preneurship’ through aquaculture, crop production, and poultry.

The six-episode series based on the Department of Education’s (DepEd) curriculum for Grade 9 Technology and Livelihood Education, showcases how students can learn fish farming, the proper handling of fish equipment and water management from the experts, selecting and raising a stock, and yielding good crops from the experts.

“AgriCOOLture” intends to make students realize that agriculture is a flourishing sector that can widely contribute to the country’s economy and uplift the lives of many Filipinos. As a program produced by Knowledge Channel in partnership with Landbank, the show is also an example of how an organization can partner with Knowledge Channel Foundation to promote an advocacy to the younger generation.

'The Conjuring 2' Holds Midnight Screening on June 9, 12:01AM

As a treat to horror fans, Warner Bros. has announced that the year's most eagerly awaited horror thriller “The Conjuring 2” will have special midnight screenings on Thursday morning, June 9 at 12:01AM in selected theaters at regular admission prices.

“Fans of the horror genre are one of the most appreciative and expressive moviegoers out there, and holding midnight screenings for `The Conjuring 2' is our way of enhancing their movie-watching experience,” says Francis Soliven, General Manager of Warner Bros. Philippines.

The movie has been rated R-13 with no cuts (only patrons 13 years old and above will be admitted).
The participating theaters (in alphabetical order) are: Abreeza Davao, Alabang Town Center, Century, CommerCenter, Eastwood, Evia, Fisher Mall, Gaisano Davao, Glorietta 4, Greenbelt 3, Newport, Power Plant, SM Aura, SM Clark, SM Fairview, SM Mall of Asia, SM Megamall, SM Pampanga, StarMall Alabang, StarMall EDSA, StarMall San Jose, Trinoma, Vista Mall Sta. Rosa and Vista Mall Taguig. (Please check your favorite theaters for updates, if they're not on this list as of presstime).

New Line Cinema’s supernatural thriller “The Conjuring 2,” with James Wan once again at the helm following the record-breaking success of “The Conjuring,” brings to the screen another real case from the files of renowned demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren.

James Wan is a master of paranoia, of playing on such universal fears as being in the dark, being alone and, in the case of “The Conjuring 2,” being overtaken by the unknown. “Everybody has fears,” he says. “My job is to tie into the collective subconscious and into our greatest fears, in this case it’s the unexplainable—demons, possession, haunting. These are things that really happened, that really happen, and that makes them that much more terrifying. For me, as a filmmaker, it’s a really creative genre. You can kind of do anything…so long as it scares the hell out of the audience!

Reprising their roles, Oscar nominee Vera Farmiga (“Up In the Air”) and Patrick Wilson, star as Lorraine and Ed Warren, who, in one of their most terrifying paranormal investigations, travel to north London to help a single mother raising four children alone in a house plagued by malicious spirits.

The film follows the phenomenal worldwide reception of Wan’s “The Conjuring,” which marked the largest opening ever for an original horror movie. It went on to make more than $319 million worldwide and still remains the second highest grossing original horror movie of all time, second only to “The Exorcist.”

Opening across the Philippines on Thursday, June 09, “The Conjuring 2” is a New Line Cinema presentation and is distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures.

'Me Before You' OST Features Famous English 'Hugot' Love Songs

The music in New Line Cinema's sentimental romance “Me Before You” was carefully interspersed with the film’s score, created by composer Craig Armstrong, to evoke the romantic and provocative sensibilities of the story.

Among the popular songs that can be heard on the soundtrack are Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud” and “Photograph,” “Unsteady (Erich Lee Gravity Remix)” from X Ambassadors, “Till The End” from Jessie Ware, and Imagine Dragons’ “Not Today.”

Craig’s music and the songs we were able to find have a huge impact in the film,” director Thea Sharrock says. “They really resonate with what’s happening between [the lead characters] Louisa and Will at every turn and every stage of their relationship.

Meanwhile, Interscope Records through MCA Music (Universal Music Philippines) has released the soundtrack to “Me Before You” and is now available to download/stream via digital stores. The CD will be available for only Php 459.00 at Astroplus/Astrovision stores starting June 10.

The soundtrack also features songs from The 1975, Jack Garratt, Cloves, Max Jury and HOLYCHILD.

“Me Before You” Tracklisting:

Max Jury “Numb”
HOLYCHILD “Happy With Me”
X Ambassadors “Unsteady” (Erich Lee Gravity Remix)
Jessie Ware “Till The End”
The 1975 “The Sound”
Jack Garratt “Surprise Yourself”
Cloves “Don’t Forget About Me”
Ed Sheeran “Photograph”
Imagine Dragons “Not Today”

New Line Cinema and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures' “Me Before You” is based on the critically acclaimed, bestselling novel by Jojo Moyes.

The romantic drama stars Emilia Clarke (“Game of Thrones”) and Sam Claflin (“The Hunger Games” series), under the direction of Thea Sharrock, making her feature film directorial debut.

In the film, oftentimes you find love where you least expect it. Sometimes it takes you where you never expected to go…Louisa “Lou” Clark (Clarke) lives in a quaint town in the English countryside. With no clear direction in her life, the quirky and creative 26-year-old goes from one job to the next in order to help her tight-knit family make ends meet. Her normally cheery outlook is put to the test, however, when she faces her newest career challenge.

Taking a job at the local “castle,” she becomes caregiver and companion to Will Traynor (Claflin), a wealthy young banker who became wheelchair bound in an accident two years prior, and whose whole world changed dramatically in the blink of an eye. '#InternetForAll, No longer a dream for the Philippines but a reality!' - Manny V. Pangilinan

This is my dream. That every Filipino has access to the internet. So we can bridge economic, educational, even cultural gaps within our society.

For years, PLDT and Smart have pursued this dream. With recent developments, we are yet another step closer to providing faster, more reliable and affordable internet services.

The 700 MHz band combined with other frequencies now give us more bandwdith to serve more people and their growing data needs. We shall step up the roll out of our 4G/LTE mobile service by deploying this on 700 MHz along with other frequency bands this year. To support this effort, we are holding talks with device manufacturers to make affordable 4G/LTE devices operating on 700 MHz available as early as possible.

A lot of work needs to be done. But the needed resources are being mobilized and this project is underway. We ask for you patience and understanding as we pursue this mission to bring the internet to every Filipino.

Soon, #InternetForAll will no longer be a dream, but a reality.

- Manuel V. Pangilinan

Star Cinema has released the full movie trailer of the much-anticipated romantic comedy movie entitled "Achy Breaky Hearts" featuring the love triangle between Ian Veneracion, Jodi Sta. Maria and Richard Yap.

Chinggay (Jodi Sta. Maria), a jewelry shop manager, is one of the single women in their 30’s who feels the pressure to find love. She goes out on dates with men but none of them seem to make the cut. You may blame her high standards but the pain from her previous relationship could also be affecting her judgment on men. Now, her love life is suffering a drought for seven years.

Everything changes when suddenly, two men are interested to be with her. Ryan (Ian Veneracion) and Frank (Richard Yap).

Chinggay finds herself torn between two kinds of love. Will she choose one over the other? Or will she realize that the love that she needs won’t come from either?

Richard and Jodi's  loveteam called JoChard was first introduced via ABS-CBN's defunct longest-running morning series "Be Careful with My Heart" while Ian and Jodi's JodIan loveteam crossed-over from the primetime series "Pangako Sa 'Yo" to MMFF 2015 movie "All You Need is Pag-ibig".

Directed by blockbuster 'hugot' director Antoinette Jadaone, "Achy Breaky Hearts" opens in cinema's natiowide on June 29, 2016.

Esquire Honors Fatherhood with Jennylyn Mercado and Son Alex Jazz this June 2016

This month, ESQUIRE honors the most enduring, surprising, and maddening profession known to man: fatherhood, in all its complexities and beyond its biological obligations.

Silver-screen bombshell and man of the house Jennylyn Mercado graces this month's issue where she talked about the breakout role she plays off-screen: that of single parent to her seven-year-old son Jazz, which she fulfills while nurturing her own growth in the industry.

Aside, Esquire also take a look into what it means to be “Dad” through the personal stories of four fathers: Clinton Palanca talks about 21st century fatherhood and the myth of the modern family; Adel Tamano finds purpose in Santi, his son with special needs; Jon-jon Rufino is overjoyed with twins born to him by a surrogate; and Peejo Pillar shares his experiences as an adoptive father.

Miguel Syjuco details the personal and political aftermath of his literary successes; mixed-martial arts fighter brandon Vera recounts how he’s rolled with the punches on the way to the top; and sports commentator Mikee Carrion and his (totally real) little boy show us how to lounge in luxury, with a fiction intermission by Sarge Lacuesta.

Read all these and more in the June 2016 issue of ESQUIRE. A Digital Edition is available at
