(Movie Poster) Spy Action-Comedy 'Central Intelligence' Starring Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart

"Saving the world takes a little Hart and a big Johnson." That's the witty tagline of the new one-sheet art of Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart's new action-comedy "Central Intelligence" in Philippine cinemas on June 15.

"Central Intelligence" follows a one-time bullied geek who grew up to be a lethal CIA agent (Johnson), coming home for his high-school reunion. Claiming to be on a top-secret case, he enlists the help of the former "big man on campus" (Hart), now an accountant who misses his glory days. But before the staid numbers-cruncher realizes what he's getting into, it's too late to get out, as his increasingly unpredictable new friend drags him through a world of shoot-outs, double-crosses and espionage that could get them both killed in more ways than he can count.

"Central Intelligence" also stars Oscar® nominee Amy Ryan ("Bridge of Spies"), Aaron Paul (TV's "Breaking Bad") and Danielle Nicolet (TV's "The Game"). The film is directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber ("We're the Millers"). The screenplay is by Ike Barinholtz & David Stassen and Rawson Marshall Thurber, from a story by Ike Barinholtz & David Stassen. It is produced by Scott Stuber ("Ted"), Peter Principato (TV's "Black-ish"), Paul Young ("Black-ish") and Michael Fottrell ("Fast & Furious 7"). Serving as executive producers are Ed Helms, who worked with Thurber on "We're the Millers," Samuel J. Brown and Michael Disco.

New Line Cinema and Universal Pictures present a Bluegrass Films/Principato Young Entertainment Production, a Rawson Marshall Thurber Film, Central Intelligence.

"Central Intelligence" is distributed by United International Pictures through Columbia Pictures.

Annie X2 To Be Introduced in RWM's Production of Hit Musical "Annie"

After the live and online auditions, Resorts World Manila (RWM) proudly introduces two promising young talents who will be playing the lead role in its latest theater offering, Annie. Nine-year-old Krystal Brimner, who recently won a Best Child Performer award in the 2015 Metro Manila filmfest for her role as Angel in Erik Matti's Honor Thy Father, and 10-year-old Isabeli Elizalde who takes her first shot at professional acting were both cast for the coveted role.

"Annie is very positive, which is me. I like being positive always," said the beaming Krystal who donned the Annie red dress for the occasion.  "Annie's nice, she cares, and she's careful," she added.

Isabeli shared the same excitement when asked how she felt on landing the role. "I'm really happy that I've gone so far, and that I've made it this far, and that now, I am Annie-- I am now part of the play," she shared.

Krystal and Isabeli performed song excerpts from the musical including the classic "Tomorrow" which caught the attention of Annie director Michael Williams and Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo who will be playing the role of Ms. Hannigan.

Both young ladies admitted being pressured at first during auditions where they bested hundreds of hopefuls but managed to be in their best form when they were asked to sing excerpts of the songs from the musical.

"When the auditions were over I said, "Finally, it's done!" And then they told me that I was part of Annie, and I was super excited that I got the role," shared Krystal.

Isabeli also shared her excitement during the audition process. "The auditions were fine. I actually liked performing in front of Tita Menchu and Tito Michael because I knew the songs and I got to sing them. I wasn't so pressured," she said.

RWM Chief Operations Manager for Entertainment Alou Almaden was equally ecstatic with the casting of the two fresh talents as she shared RWM's efforts in making the musical's production underway happen.

"We're very excited about Annie. We had so many challenges before we actually got the rights for the musical from MTI New York. Rest assured, RWM is behind Full House Theater Company and Ultimate Entertainment throughout the musical's run," said Almaden.

Annie is set to open this September at the Newport Performing Arts Theater in Resorts World Manila. For more updates visit www.rwmanila.com.

The Boys of Summer Derek, Aljur, Mike and Juancho on Spotlight

This summer is shaping up to be one of the hottest on record with temperatures reaching close to 40 degrees Celsius. While others try to beat the heat by switching the air conditioner on full blast or downing multiple glasses of halo-halo or sago’t gulaman, these Kapuso hunks have no intentions of fighting it. Instead, they’re choosing light, casual clothes every chance they get and indulging in some “innocent” daydreaming.

GMA hotties Derrick Monasterio, Juancho Trivino, Mike Tan and Aljur Abrenica go for board shorts or denim shorts paired with a sando or tank top and a pair of shades. “As long as it’s comfortable and hindi mainit,” Aljur added.

Three of them prefer to get tanned at the beach but Juancho is more of a city person and would rather stay in a hotel or go for a dip in the pool at night. “I am already tan enough,” Juancho quips.

Derrick, who currently stars in the Afternoon Prime program Hanggang Makita Kang Muli, shares that his role requires him to be “fair-skinned and flawless,” hence, has no choice but to stay cool indoors.

“I’ve been to a lot of beaches like Crystal Beach in Zambales and Camaya Cove in Batangas,” Aljur says. “When I get to a spot I like, I’ll put down my phones and just grab my guitar. I would stay in the beachfront under the tree as I do social media detox refraining from using gadgets.”

Aljur doesn’t even require an iPod or radio for music. “As long as I have a guitar, I’m fine. And then I’ll express myself, and pour out my thoughts. If you’re listening to a soundtrack, it’s like you’re following the artist’s emotions,” he reveals.

Traveling solo for the first time proved to be memorable and eye-opening for two of our young hunks. Derrick remembers the time he joined the celebration at Laboracay 2014. “That was the first time I went out with friends alone on a plane trip.” Now, he has set his sights beyond the Philippines and is dreaming of Greece and the Bahamas.

Juancho’s favorite summer gimmick was that time he went to Coron in Palawan. “It’s the first place where I traveled alone to, and I enjoyed every bit of the paradise.”

His most memorable summer getaway was when he and his friends went to Bunga Falls in Laguna because it was also his first time to go on an outing with them.

Mike is probably the most easy-going among the four. Asked whether he would rather stay cool or get tanned at the beach, the chinito charmer said he was fine with either option. “Getting a tan is fine and summer is not the only time of the year when one can go to the beach. An enjoyable vacation hideaway is anywhere quiet and with less people. I just love to chill.”

If they were stranded on an island, who would they want as companion? Derrick said Courtney Eaton; Juancho chose his Bubble Gang co-star Betong Sumaya since he won in Survivor Philippines; and Mike said he was fine with anyone as long as he can survive the wildlife “just being practical.”

Aljur was the most mysterious. “I have someone in mind because I want to get to know her well. She seems like a really nice lady. If I will be with her on an island, we will talk a lot of things about life. I will be able to share more about mine. I will serenade her.”

Rodrigo Duterte's Laws and Promises: Made to Be Broken?

(Movie Review) X-MEN: Apocalypse

'X-MEN: APOCALYPSE' starts in Egypt more than 3,000 years ago to show an ancient mutant called Apocalypse end up being buried inside a collapsed pyramid and under tons of rock for several thousands of years. From there, the flashy opening credits are shown and we are whisked through some sort of an astonishing time tunnel until it reaches the 1980s, the era of Pres. Ronald Reagan.

In this time travel movie, some of the mutants we've met before in other X-Men movies are still very young, like a young Cyclops (Tye Sheridan) and his brother Havoc (Lucas Till). We also meet a very young Jean Grey who can feel what everyone feels. She's formerly played by Famke Janssen, but now by the beautiful Sophie Turner who's Sansa Stark from "Game of Thrones".

We then see Raven/ Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) helping a young Nightcrawler (Kodi Smit McPhee) in East Berlin. A fugitive Erik/ Magneto (Michael Fassbender) lives a quiet life as a blue collar worker in Poland with his wife and daughter. But when he loses his family, he goes on a rampage and joins the forces of evil.

We then see Apocalypse (Oscar Isaac, who's unrecognizable in his makeup/get up) being revived by some diehard fans of his, looking like Ivan Ooze from Power Rangers, as witnessed by Rose Byrne, the CIA agent who was romanced before by Professor X. He proclaims "I have returned" in his eerie voice, then recruits other mutants to be part of his team, the four horsemen, including Psylocke (Olivia Munn, who looks more like a dominatrix), Storm (Alexandra Shipp, replacing Halle Berry), Angel (Ben Hardy, who's given a new set of metal wings) and Magneto, so they can destroy the world and build a new one.

The wheelchair-bound genius, Prof. Charles Xavier/ Professor X (James McAvoy), in turn, teams up with Mystique and the other good mutants, Jean Grey, Cyclops, Nightcrawler and Beast (Nicholas Hoult) to fight Apocalypse and his gang in their own version of Civil War or Avengers flick.

This leads to the rousing climactic showdown where we see cataclysmic shots of bridges collapsing and tall skyscrapers being pulverized into dust while Charles and Magneto engage in a philosophical discussion about good and evil and the value of annihilating mankind. Trust Director Bryan Singer to combine elements of ruthless destruction and high brown ruminations about existential questions.

Still, let us say that the new X-men movie suffers in comparison to the classier and more entertaining "X-Men First Class" (set in the 60s) and "Days of Future Past" (set in the 70s). Just like "Batman v Superman" and "Captain America: Civil War", "X-Men Apocalypse" suffers from being unnecessary long at two hours and a half so there are just so many laylay and boringga moments that drag.

But there's sensory overload from the amazing special CGI effects sequences and there are some very real good mind-bending moments, like Quicksilver's (Evan Peters) set piece where time stands still and he gets to rescue and save in a jiffy all the mutants just before their entire school is obliterated by Apocalypse. We also like Magneto reliving his past as a boy in Auschwitz concentration camp which they blow up into smithereens later.

No matter how silly some of the proceedings might be, the movie is almost always redeemed by the major cast members, notably by Fassbender and McAvoy (two of the best British actors working in Hollywood today), and the Oscar-winning Jennifer Lawrence who is so effective as Katniss and as Mystique. They're good reasons to watch the movie and enjoy it enough for you to wait for the next sequel. And just like in other superhero franchises, don't leave the theatre right away and wait until after the closing credits are over to see a teaser preview of what's coming up in the next X-Men flick. That is, if you're not yet suffering from superhero fatigue. - Mario Bautista, FB/Mario Escobar Bautista

TV's 28-Hour Uninterrupted Election Coverage Wins In Terms of Fast, Accurate News and Production Value

TV5 Network Inc. has gained praises and positive feedback from netizens for its 28-hour uninterrupted, Bilang Pilipino election coverage.

The coverage which was a synergy among MVP Group of Companies was cited by netizens as a preferred network because of its fast, accurate election results and updates.

News5 Chief Luchi Cruz-Valdes cites TV5's Bilang Pilipino Campaign as the most extensive coverage that the network has ever mounted, keeping Filipinos around the world updated to the latest developments concerning the electionsthrough all its broadcast, digital, mobile and social media channels.

TV5's uninterrupted 28-hour election coverage ran from 5:00 AM of May 9 until 9:00 AM of May 10 with its team of reporters deployed to all parts of the country bringing fresh updates from candidates, voters, polling precinct situations, and other election-related issues.

The Bilang Pilipino coverage was a convergence of technology. "This in-depth election coverage was a product of a right goal, team work, intensive planning and preparation", said TV5 President and CEO Emmanuel C. Lorenzana. Since the launch of Bilang Pilipino campaign he said, the entire team has worked hard to prepare for this event. "We wanted the coverage to provide intensive information made available across all media", he added. One of the highlights of the coverage that gained much appreciation from viewers and netizens was how fast information including election results was made available both online and via television.

Mediaquest Chairman Manny V. Pangilinan said that its partnership with PLDT and Smart explains how it was able to get the election results figures from PPCRVs transparency server fast. "We provided the Telco facilities to PPCRV and we were connected to their transparency server. We made sure that we had more than adequate computing capability and data analytics which were very important in breaking down the raw data we we're getting from the transparency server".

With Smart/PLDTs backbone, TV5 reporters were able to go on live broadcast using only their mobile phones instead of the usual broadcast equipment. Installed to the reporters' mobile phones was the Aviwest live broadcast platform application thatallowed them to immediately air on TV with broadcast quality and provided them with much faster and seamless communication with the command center. With Telcos PLDT and Smart on board, updates and social media interaction was also made faster and reporters were able to get their stories, photos and videos out in no time.

In an article published by the Center for Media Freedom and Responsibility, TV5's Bilang Pilipino election coverage was cited as the "clear winner" in terms of news and production value. It noted TV5 to be way ahead its rivals with its innovative efforts to make the coverage stylish, informative and comprehensiveIt also took note of the "panoramic" LED screen that served as the studio backdrop where information such as voter demographics, voter preference, step-by-step procedures in the election process, exit survey figures and other data-driven pieces.

The network's partnership with SWS propelled its data-driven election coverage where real time updates and questions were addressed. The coverage featured statistical data broken down into graphics like the Heat Maps that showed updates on who was leading or winning on specific provinces and regions, including among others the provinces where presumptive President Rodrigo Duterte got his highest number of votes. The Heat Maps also showed an updated transmittal percentage and voter turnout rate including breakdown of votes for candidates from both local and national posts shown through a wide horizontal LED.

After hosting the most talked-about Visayas leg of the PiliPinas Presidential Debates last March, the Kapatid network has gone to prove its Bilang Pilipino campaign's thrust through its data driven, extensive, and innovative election coverage and it remains strong in its commitment for unbiased, comprehensive and credible news and public affairs.

The Bilang Pilipino campaign will continue to provide an extensive coverage of the elections together with its partners; PLDT, Smart, Voyager, Talas, News5, News5Everywhere, Interaksyon, The Philippine Star and Business World until June 30, the inauguration of presumptive president Rodrigo Duterte.

Watch ASAP Diva Showdown: Morisette Amon v. Jonalyn Viray v. Angeline Quinto v. Klarisse de Guzman

How do you rank these performance of ASAP Diva Morisette Amon, Klarisse de Guzman, Jonalyn Viray and Angeline Quinto?

As music observers claim, Morissette is really the next diva to watch for. Her high notes, riffs, resonance and the shifting from chest voice to whistle is perfection. Klarisse is classy, her voice awesome voice quality perfectly fits the song.  Jona, as expected, nailed it. Angeline is okay. I hope next time she sings, I wouldn't at all hear Regine Velasquez out of her.
