Award-winning Composer Michael Giacchino and Walt Disney Collaborate for Animated Movie 'Zootopia'

Award-winning Composer Michael Giacchino and Walt Disney Collaborate for Animated Movie 'Zootopia'

Award-winning composer Michael Giacchino marks his first-ever collaboration with Walt Disney Animation Studios for next spring's big-screen adventure "Zootopia." Featuring an 80-piece orchestra and conductor Tim Simonec,Giacchino's score is being recorded this week.

"In a world as vast as Zootopia, we needed someone who could deliver a score that can feel exotic and powerful, but also provide that same emotional intimacy," said director Byron Howard. "We tell stories with images, Michael tells stories with music. 'Zootopia' is a massive film with deep emotional themes running throughout the story, and Michael was the perfect choice to bring the music of this extraordinary animal world to life."

Added director Rich Moore, "Zootopia is a thriving metropolis inhabited by animals from around globe, and Michael's music has captured a wonderful international spirit that marries perfectly with the visuals. I'm very excited for audiences to experience this incredible new world we've created together."

According to the composer, the score is very diverse instrumentally. "There are flavors of world music sprinkled in everywhere. But at its core, the score always follows the emotional story of Hopps and Nick."

Giacchino's credits feature some of the most popular and acclaimed film projects in recent history, including Disney•Pixar's "Inside Out," "The Incredibles" and "Ratatouille," as well as "Jurassic World," "Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol" and "The Dawn of the Planet of the Apes."  His score for Disney•Pixar's 2009 feature "Up" earned him an Oscar®, a Golden Globe®, the BAFTA, the Broadcast Film Critics' Choice Award and two GRAMMY® Awards.

"The process of working with Michael is unique in that it doesn't feel like a process," said Moore. "It feels more like visiting with a childhood friend. We started by talking about the film—the themes, the tone, the characters, the emotional moments. We talked about what inspired us, and our hopes for the movie. And from those conversations, Michael began building the score. When we listened to his work together, an amazing thing happened. Michael somehow took those conversations and turned them into music. It's creative collaboration, pure and simple."

Said Giacchino, "We've had a lot of fun working together and the directors have been wonderfully supportive of me throughout the entire process, giving me an incredible amount of freedom to really explore the tone and emotional side of the story.

"I am really proud to be a part of this film," continued Giacchino. "It's one of those films with a huge heart and wonderfully realized characters set within a story that's not only incredibly fun and entertaining but takes an honest look at our own world and the important issues we deal with living in such a diverse society.  That's what really attracted me to the film—the chance to write music that reflects these kind of challenges."

Added Howard, "Michael approaches composing from an intuitive, emotional place that's so completely personal to him, but at the same time, his themes and musical storytelling are completely universal. You fall in love with the music the instant you hear it."

ABOUT THE MOVIE

The modern mammal metropolis of Zootopia is a city like no other. Comprised of habitat neighborhoods like ritzy Sahara Square and frigid Tundratown, it's a melting pot where animals from every environment live together—a place where no matter what you are, from the biggest elephant to the smallest shrew, you can be anything. But when rookie Officer Judy Hopps (voice of Ginnifer Goodwin) arrives, she discovers that being the first bunny on a police force of big, tough animals isn't so easy. Determined to prove herself, she jumps at the opportunity to crack a case, even if it means partnering with a fast-talking, scam-artist fox, Nick Wilde (voice of Jason Bateman), to solve the mystery. Walt Disney Animation Studios' "Zootopia," a comedy-adventure directed by Byron Howard ("Tangled," "Bolt") and Rich Moore ("Wreck-It Ralph," "The Simpsons"), and produced by Clark Spencer ("Wreck-It Ralph," "Lilo & Stitch"), opens in Philippine theaters on March 02, 2016.

Scary Character Intrudes Christmas in 'Krampus' Movie

Home invasion gets a "monstrous" twist as dark creature Krampus prepares to crash an unsuspecting house in the newly released poster for Universal Pictures and Legendary Pictures' "Krampus."

When his dysfunctional family clashes over the holidays, young Max (Emjay Anthony) is disillusioned and turns his back on Christmas. Little does he know, this lack of festive spirit has unleashed the wrath of Krampus: a demonic force of ancient evil intent on punishing non-believers.

All hell breaks loose as beloved holiday icons take on a monstrous life of their own, laying siege to the fractured family's home and forcing them to fight for each other if they hope to survive.

Opening across the Philippines on December 2, "Krampus" is distributed by United International Pictures through Columbia Pictures.

Look Into the Whale's Eye in the New 'Heart of Sea' Movie Poster

Look Into the Whale's Eye in the New 'Heart of Sea' Movie Poster

Warner Bros. Pictures has just anchored the new one-sheet art of “In the Heart of the Sea,” the new Ron Howard film starring Chris Hemsworth and based on the incredible true story that inspired “Moby-Dick.”

The latest poster shows a diver dwarfed by the enormity of the giant whale, and the two creatures seem to be engaging on a fierce staring contest.

In the winter of 1820, the ship Essex was assaulted by something no one could believe: a whale of mammoth size and will, and an almost human sense of vengeance. The real-life maritime disaster would inspire Herman Melville’s Moby-Dick. But that told only half the story.

“In the Heart of the Sea” reveals the encounter’s harrowing aftermath, as the ship’s surviving crew is pushed to their limits and forced to do the unthinkable to stay alive. Braving storms, starvation, panic and despair, the men will call into question their deepest beliefs, from the value of their lives to the morality of their trade, as their captain searches for direction on the open sea and his first mate still seeks to bring the great whale down.

“In the Heart of the Sea” stars Chris Hemsworth as the vessel’s veteran first mate Owen Chase; Benjamin Walker as its inexperienced Captain, George Pollard; Cillian Murphy as second mate Matthew Joy; and Ben Whishaw as novelist Herman Melville, whose inquiries into the event 30 years later helped bring the story to light.

Tom Holland also stars as young seaman Tom Nickerson, and Brendan Gleeson as the same man, 30 years later.

Opening across the Philippines on December 3, 2015 in theaters and IMAX®, “In the Heart of the Sea” is distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

Alma Moreno's Disaster Interview with Karen Davila (Video and Transcript)

Alma Moreno's Disaster Interview with Karen Davila (Video and Transcript)

So it's all over the news now. A lot has been said against former actress and now senatorial candidate Alma Moreno. Others expressed their sympathy saying she better withdraw from her candidacy to prevent further humiliation. But who are we to judge. Let her run. But please don't make the biggest mistake of putting her name on the ballot.

Besides, not because you didn't prepare enough for this interview doesn't mean you're at all ignorant of this (hopeless) government's pressing issues. Let's just think that...maybe that's all what she got.

But seriously, how well do you think she fared in that Headstart interview with Karen Davila? Read on:

On Same sex marriage
She's against same sex marriage because she believes that it is a sin.

On Magna Carta of Women
Alma intend to push for the Magda (Magna; Yes, she said "Magda") Carta of Women even if it has already been passed into law, which Karen Davila told her. She then proceeded to say that there are still parts of it that aren't implemented, such as government assistance to rape victims. Karen immediately pointed out that we already have the Public Attorneys Office for that. Sorry, she lost me in her succeeding response.

On Reproductive Health Law
She's in "for" the Reproductive Health Law with "reservations". Karen asked what her reservations were. She answered, "Kailangan pa bang sagutin?" And then Karen said, "Of course, you're running for the Senate." Moreno then appears to look at someone in the studio. May coach? The entire time, there were nervous giggles from her. Kailangan daw "laging bukas ang ilaw" para magkaroon ng birth control. And then she bursts into laughter. Karen goes back to the question: "What are your reservations on the RH Law?" Moreno answered, "Disseminate..."; which Karen interrupted because she had to define the term "reservations" for the senatorial candidate because it seems like the question wasn't clearly understood. "Teka, nawawala ako... Actually hindi pa 'ko napupunta doon," she answered. Karen was about to move on to another question, but then Moreno suddenly exclaims "Pills!" as if the interview was a buzzer-beater game show. Finally, she said that she was against government funding of contraceptives, which makes her technically anti-RH.

On Anti-Political Dynasty Law
100% against for it.

Income Tax Reform
Karen asked what her stand was, she merely answered, "Reporma." She was asked to expound further and gave a simplistic view about withholding tax. She proudly said, while pointing to some documents on the table, "Nandito sa 'kin. Pinag-aralan ko kanina." Wow. Kanina lang?

Vice President Jejomar Binay
The former sexy actress supports Vice President Jejomar Binay and says that it is up to the courts to determine if he is guilty when it comes to several cases of corruption.

Bangsamoro Basic Law
Undecided on the Bangsamoro Basic Law. Pag-aaralan pa daw.

RWM Brings ‘Grand Fiesta Manila 2015’ with Charice, Yeng, Rivermaya, Zsa Zsa, and Martin this November and December

There are many reasons to smile this yuletide season and premier lifestyle destination Resorts World Manila (RWM) offers the best one yet as it kicks-off its annual Grand Fiesta Manila celebration.

Already on its 6th year, RWM’s holiday fête pays homage to Bacolod’s renowned MassKara Festival this year with the theme ‘The Many Faces of Holiday Thrills’.

Similar to how the iconic parade breathes life to Bacolod’s distinction as the ‘City of Smiles’, this year’s Grand Fiesta Manila celebration crams the vibrant colors and merry imageries Filipinos are known for into a month-long marathon offering of the best concerts, parties, movies, shows, exhibits, promos, and exclusive events all under one roof.

Season of Sporting Thrills

The non-stop excitement starts with a different kind of holiday cheers as RWM presents simultaneous world-class sporting events beginning November 19.

At the greens, RWM, in cooperation with the Asian Tour, is set to host some of the world’s top golfers for the third edition of the Resorts World Manila Masters. The richest golf tournament in the Philippines takes place from November 19 to 22, 2015 at the Manila Southwoods Golf & Country Club.

Meanwhile in Newport City, RWM partners with Dragon Promotions to host the inaugural Kings Cup. Set to take place from November 19 to 21 at The Plaza in Newport Mall, the tilt pits the champions from Asia against the top players from Europe and the Unites States in an epic continental clash between billiards’ best.

Yuletide Stars Shine at the NPAT

Stars continue to shine as RWM draws the curtains of the award-winning Newport Performing Arts Theater (NPAT) once again for the highly anticipated second run of ‘Bituing Walang Ningning, The Musical’. The original, all-Filipino production expects to dazzle audiences with performances from celebrated performer Mark Bautista, theater luminary Cris Villonco, and new stage star Monica Cuenco.

The musical’s powerhouse ensemble is made even more star-studded with the addition of multi-talented actor Epy Quizon into the fold. ‘Bituing Walang Ningning, The Musical’ takes the NPAT stage on the weekends of December 3 to 6, December 14 to 15, and scheduled dates in January 2016.

Keep on dreaming big this season of smiles as RWM brings back Ainsley, Dayen, Mary, Stevie, and Tanika as Hi-5 returns to Manila for their ‘House of Dreams’ concert. Set to take place from December 18 to 21 at the NPAT, the concert takes the crew on a journey featuring some wild, wonderful, and wacky adventures as they enter the magical world of dreams.

Merry Hymns, Bright Smiles, and a Grand Countdown to boot

The Plaza in Newport Mall turns into a center for merry making throughout the Grand Fiesta Manila celebration with a host of entertainment offerings including meet and greet opportunities with Santa Claus accompanied by a bevy of fun buskers every weekends of December.

Continuing to make the Christmas spirit burn bright, guests are treated to moving performances from the University of the Philippines Singing Ambassadors every Saturdays and Sundays of December including a special Christmas day act accompanied by the soothing voice of Arthur Manuntag.

All the yuletide cheers is made even brighter with a daily display from RWM’s signature, 18-foot-tall Giant Parol which features over 2,000 light bulbs moving in sync with the liveliest of holiday hymns.
RWM’s Grand Fiesta Manila 2015 culminates with a bang as the property ushers in 2016 with simultaneous New Year’s Eve parties at entertainment hub Bar 360, Rock to Midnight at The Plaza in Newport Mall, and The Grand Countdown at the Marriott Grand Ballroom on December 31, 2015.

Rock to Midnight at The Plaza in Newport mall will be headlined by a concert featuring Yeng Constantino, Rivermaya, The Dawn, Spirit of ’67, and Fanzy Notes, while The Grand Countdown at the Marriott Grand Ballroom will offer the most lavish way to greet 2016 with a bevy of thrills for the entire family including performances from the Divine Diva Zsa Zsa Padilla, International Pop Star Charice, and the Concert King himself Martin Nievera.

The trifecta of stars will share the stage with other top class acts such as funnyman and Bituing Walang Ningning: The Musical star Jon Santos, performances by Asia’s Got Talent champions El Gamma Penumbra, and a spectacular jaw dropping show from RWM’s international acrobats, Universo Robots, and Mark Mabasa & Friends.
