John Lloyd Cruz - "Hindi ako takot malaos pero gusto ko mag-quit!"

John Lloyd Cruz - "Hindi ako takot malaos pero gusto ko mag-quit!"

Four-time blockbuster king John Lloyd Cruz admitted that there were times when he thought of quitting show business.

He believes it's part of "life's natural cycle."

"Yes. Hindi ako magsisinungaling. I mean, hindi ako magpapaka-ipokrito, kasi ano 'yan, it's life's natural cycle and you don't go against it. You don't argue with it," he said in an interview on "Tonight with Boy Abunda" on Thursday.

Lloydie said, however, that he chooses to honor the commitments he made to his network, his audience and to himself.

"At siguro sa aming mga artista, humihirap lang kasi may commitment kami lagi. Mayroon kaming kontrata, mayroon kaming nasagutan, mayroon kaming commitment sa audience, sa network, and to myself," he explained.

He went on to conclude that he probably just needs to take a break from showbiz once in a while.

"Walking away, hindi naman talaga iwan. Sometimes, you just have to walk away para pagbalik mo, mas okay ka," he said.

When asked by host Boy Abunda if he is afraid to lose his popularity and be "laos," the actor replied: "Hindi, kasi hindi 'yun ang pinunta ko rito eh."

"Malinaw naman kung ano ang pinunta ko rito, and that's my love for the craft. That's it. It's been taking me to places that I've never been to, 'yung naibigay niya sa akin, 'yung impact sa buhay ko. Ever since, mula sa 'Tabing Ilog' days, malinaw na sa akin 'yun," he added.

Lloydie was referring to the drama series "Tabing Ilog", which aired on ABS-CBN from 1999 to 2003.

He is currently promoting "A Second Chance", the sequel of his highly popular 2007 movie "One More Chance". It will be released in theaters this November. - Source: ABS-CBNNews.com

“I think that flashing the lyrics onscreen is the indelible mark of MYX. It is a major attraction for our viewers. If they didn’t understand the song, MYX made it easy for them by having the lyrics readily available onscreen,” Alvarez said.

He also shared that MYX’s move to flash lyrics in the music videos that it played turned to be so successful that it even became a requirement for most variety shows on other mainstream channels to put lyrics onscreen.

MYX is currently celebrating its 15th year and Alvarez said its viewers should expect more changes in the years to come.

There will be a lot of changes. It is always our burden to stay relevant that’s why we change our sets, we change our imaging so that MYX always looks fresh to our viewers,” Alvarez elaborated.

Be Part of a Heartfelt Journey in "The Good Dinosaur"

Be Part of a Heartfelt Journey in "The Good Dinosaur"

Disney•Pixar’s "The Good Dinosaur" asks the question: What if the asteroid that forever changed life on Earth missed the planet completely and giant dinosaurs never became extinct? Pixar Animation Studios takes you on an epic journey into the world of dinosaurs where an Apatosaurus named Arlo makes an unlikely human friend.

From the moment Arlo is born, he’s afraid of the world,” says director Peter Sohn. “He’s fun-loving and determined; he’s got a lot of fire when it comes to his desire to help his family. But he’s scared. His fear holds him back.

From the beginning, Spot is the opposite of Arlo,” continues Sohn. “He’s tenacious, brave and an animal in every sense of the word. It’s the story of a boy and his dog - only in our story, the boy is a dinosaur and the dog is a boy.

The film catapults Arlo into a vast wilderness that forces him to confront his fears. According to producer Denise Ream, the stunning and often overwhelming landscape that artists created ultimately played an important role in the story. “Nature can overcome anything,” she says, “including a massive dinosaur.”

Inspired by the American Northwest, filmmakers found that even towering dinosaurs could feel small in the right surroundings, which worked to intensify Arlo’s fears. “He has a lot to overcome,” says Sohn. “His father always knew he was capable of much more, but it’ll take this emotional journey for Arlo to realize it.”

Along the way, Arlo encounters a host of unique personalities who all contribute to his evolution - whether they mean to or not. But the friendship he builds with Spot has the biggest impact. Says Sohn, “The bond that grows between Arlo and Spot allows Arlo to push through his fear and take on the ultimate nemesis: nature.”

“The Good Dinosaur” features an extraordinary roster of voice talent. “We were lucky to work with a number of incredible pros along the way and our story ultimately led us to this amazing and talented group,” says Sohn. “We’re all taking this journey with Arlo, and it’s been a privilege to see these performers bring our characters to life.”

The voice cast includes Jeffrey Wright ("The Hunger Games: Mockingjay" - parts I & II) as Arlo’s wise Poppa, Frances McDormand (HBO's "Olive Kitteridge") as Arlo’s strong Momma, Marcus Scribner (ABC’s “black•ish”) as Arlo’s brother Buck, Raymond Ochoa (“Disney’s A Christmas Carol”) as Arlo, Jack Bright (“Monsters University”) as Spot, Steve Zahn (“Diary of a Wimpy Kid”) as a fearless pterodactyl named Thunderclap, AJ Buckley (FX’s “Justified”) as teen T-Rex Nash, Anna Paquin (HBO’s “True Blood”) as Nash’s tenacious sister Ramsey, and Sam Elliott (“Ghost Rider”) as T-Rex patriarch Butch.

Disney•Pixar’s “The Good Dinosaur” is executive produced by John Lasseter, Lee Unkrich an Andrew Stanton. The film features music by Academy Award®-winning film composer Mychael Danna (“Life of Pi”) and Emmy®-nominated composer Jeff Danna (“Tyrant”).

Opening across the Philippines on November 25, “The Good Dinosaur” is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures International through Columbia Pictures. Ryan Guzman, from Boy Next Door to 'Jem and The Holograms'

Ryan Guzman, from Boy Next Door to 'Jem and The Holograms'

Ryan Guzman, lead star of the hit thriller “The Boy Next Door” and TV's new toprater “Heroes Reborn,” lends a masculine presence to Universal Pictures' female-oriented musical-adventure “Jem and The Holograms.”

In the film, as Jerrica (Aubrey Peeples), a small-town girl catapults from underground video sensation to global superstar as her alter ego Jem, she and her band of sisters begin a one-in-a-million journey of discovering that some talents are too special to keep hidden.

In Jerrica's musical journey, there is one person in her new Hollywood home that she’s slowly growing to trust. His name is Rio, and he is portrayed by Ryan Guzman. The music-intern son of Erica Raymond, founder and CEO of Starlight Music, Rio is tasked with helping Jem and the Holograms navigate through their newfound stardom. His job would be easier, however, if he wasn’t falling for one of its members...

Guzman discusses his role: “While Erica is all about making money, Rio is more about discovering artists who can entertain. He is not impressed by Jem and the Holograms when he first meets them, but that’s because he thinks they are just another pop group that is popular for all the wrong reasons. Later on, he finds out there is more to them than meets the eye. He connects with them and realizes they aren’t in it for the fame; they are just doing what they love.

Not only does Rio help the band traverse the perils of newfound stardom, he aids Jerrica and Kimber on their quest to find out just who their father was, as well as what he has in store for them. Explains co-star Stephanie Scott who plays Kimber: “Rio taps into the storyline of our hunt for Synergy, and the process of figuring out what message our dad left for us. He helps us bring it all together.

Ryan Guzman is a former MMA fighter who caught the notice of Hollywood.

Born in Texas and raised in Sacramento, California, Guzman never thought of becoming an actor, much less a professional dancer. At age seven, he developed an interest in martial arts and earned his first black belt in tae kwon do by the age of 10. This led him into the octagon as an MMA fighter in Sacramento until his fighting license expired in 2010. A gifted athlete, Guzman was also a sought-after left-handed pitcher with a fastball clocked between 87 and 90 miles per hour. A shoulder injury ended this dream and transitioned into a career in print modeling, followed by acting.

Guzman worked successfully in San Francisco, starting with LOOK Model Agency at the age of 18, before moving to Los Angeles, where he joined the esteemed Wilhelmina agency at 22. Guzman has since starred in television commercials for Old Navy, Gillette, Candie’s and the Oprah Winfrey Network. He has modeled for Abercrombie & Fitch, Affliction and Reebok, among other brands.

After his success in modeling, Guzman signed on with a talent manager and went into the audition process for acting roles. Just a few short months later, he booked the male lead role for Lionsgate’s “Step Up Revolution.”

After the international success of “Step Up Revolution,” he reprised his role in the Trish Sie directed “Step Up All In” alongside Briana Evigan.

In January 2015, Guzman was seen as the male lead role opposite Jennifer Lopez in the Universal Pictures thriller “The Boy Next Door.”

Opening exclusively at Ayala Malls Cinemas nationwide on November 4, “Jem and the Holograms” is distributed by United International Pictures through Columbia Pictures.

James Reid and Nadine Lustre Reveal What They Don't Like About Each Other

James Reid and Nadine Lustre (popularly known to local showbiz as JaDine) is probably one of the most popular onscreen tandems today, but there are still a lot of things that you probably do not know about the two.

In their recent press conference for a coffee brand, the "On the Wings of Love" stars traded facts about each other and discussed the one thing that they do not like about one another.

According to James, Nadine is "impossible to wake up," has an uncontrollable urge to keep her Instagram account as perfect-looking as possible, and is "terrible at making decisions."

For her part, Nadine revealed that James tends to be sleepy most of the time, a nocturnal, doesn't like eating shrimp, doesn't like wearing loud colors, a cat person, and is into Japanese culture as much as her.

Asked about what they dislike about each other, James admitted that he does not like that Nadine is a "very loud morning person."

"I just want peace and quiet especially in the morning when we're taping and she likes playing loud pop music," he said.

Nadine, meanwhile, shared that she doesn't like how James keeps fixing his hair. "You fix your hair too much," she said, laughing.

Vice Ganda's Concert Producer Offers Alden Richards Four Times Bigger than His Talent Fee

Vice Ganda's Concert Producer Offers Alden Richards Four Times Bigger than His Talent Fee

In a report posted at GMA news reporter Nelson Canlas' Instagram account, he revealed that Vice Ganda's concert producer and former That's Entertainment member Joed Serrano offered Pambansang Bae Alden Richards a talent fee four times bigger than what he paid the Kapamilya comedian.

His Instagram post reads:

Actor/Producer Joed Serrano offered to produce Alden Richards's very first concert at the Big Dome on Valentine's day 2016. His offer is a staggering 8-digit talent fee. This, according to Joed, is the highest he has offered to a local artist for a concert. "Times 4 yun ng TF ni Vice Ganda sa concert niya. Binase ko lang naman sa demand ng tao", says Joed.

Alden's camp is now fixing his schedule and if the deal is inked his next step would be to ask Maine Mendoza to guest in the said concert.

Read: BBC News' Take on the ALDUB Phenomenon

Entitled "'AlDub': A social media phenomenon about love and lip-synching," BBC News' online website www.bbc.com featured their take on the phenomenon that is taking Philippine TV and social media by storm - ALDUB.

The article reads:

It is a surreal and wildly popular show which has smashed global social media records. But few outside the Philippines have even heard of the phenomenon called AlDub.

What follows is everything you need to know about lip-synching, being in love with somebody you have never met and how to break records on Twitter.

What or who is 'AlDub'?

For several months, viewers across the Philippines have been tuning in to watch 'Eat Bulaga!', a popular afternoon variety show, which features a skit with a pair of lovers who have never met in the flesh.

On the show, their romance is conducted via a split screen and as it developed, obstacles after obstacle cropped up to prevent the onscreen duo from meeting.

'AlDub' is a play on the first names of Filipino actors Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza (who plays the character Yaya Dub on the show), both stars with huge followings on social media.

It all became too much for the multitudes of adoring fans, who began to take action on social media by lobbying for the couple to finally meet in person. Each week, an episode spawned multiple and hugely popular Twitter hashtags to this end.

"Brangelina has got nothing on AlDub, they are my favourite super power couple - I love them so much," gushed Filipino Twitter user Maria Joy Coloma, a fan from Cebu province.

"When will AlDub ever overcome the odds and unite? That will be when my life becomes complete," lamented another Twitter user Desiree Lopez in the capital city of Manila.

And then they finally met...

On 24 October, fans got their wish and for the first time, finally got to see the couple meet - on the set of a huge charity concert celebrating the show's 36th anniversary.

Thousands attended the event and in just one day, the hashtag #AlDubEBTamangPanahon (translation: AlDub, in the right time) drew more than 41 million tweets, smashing the previous Twitter record held by Brazil's 2014 Fifa World Cup defeat to Germany.

And it isn't just the local fans. US politicians and even alternative rock bands, have declared their love for the show and its young stars.

The formula for a phenomenon

TV host and blogger Daphne Osena Paez explains that their love story appealed to all sectors of Filipino society and was created by playing on a popular formula used in the Philippine entertainment industry.

"Actors and actresses are often paired up so fans hope they end up together in real life. But what's different about 'AlDub'... is that it wasn't just the creation of a TV network or movie production," she said.

Their pairing began on live TV when they started reacting to each other spontaneously within the Eat Bulgaga variety show.

Now, she says, they are the most popular "love team" in the Philippines.

But another key to their popularity is their ability to connect with ordinary people.

"They appear very down-to-earth," says BBC presenter Rico Hizon, who admits to being a huge fan of the series.

"I believe that one big reason they are so popular is because the actors are very humble despite their massive success - they keep thanking fans as well as everyone who supports their work.

And now for the lip-synching part

The Philippines is a musical country where the online art of Dubsmash has become a craze.

Dubsmash allows social media users to lip-synch over catchy songs, speeches or film quotes, and is featured prominently on the show.

Skilful lip-synching was what propelled Maine Mendoza, who was already an internet celebrity and known as the "dubsmash queen", onto the show in the first place.

Along with Taylor Swift and Katy Perry, she has one of the fastest growing followings on Twitter. Images courtesy of www.bbc.com

She began interacting via a split-screen with Alden and the rest is history. Amazingly, neither of the characters have any speaking lines on the show.

Instead, they express their adoration for each other by blending lines from popular love songs and movies.

Thanks to her role as Yaya Dub, Ms Mendoza has now become the third fastest-growing celebrity on Twitter, after US singers Taylor Swift and Katy Perry.

The secret power of trend-setting Filipinos

Twitter called it a "global phenomenon" after it most recently broke social media records.

More than 50,000 fans flocked to the stadium in Manila to catch a glimpse of stars from the popular variety show

However, one earlier hashtag which followed after a controversial episode that saw Yaya Dub almost marry another character, spawned 800,000 tweets in a day. Other regular hashtags related to the show, regularly draw millions of tweets.

"'AlDub' was a global phenomenon on Twitter and it shows how our platform, as the social soundtrack to TV, has really connected Filipinos who love a good love story," the site's Asia Pacific Vice President Rishi Jaitly told Philippine news portal Rappler.

"None of it was planned," adds Ms. Paez. "It's not like the show hired social media experts to strategise a plan - they realised what they had: a new and younger social-media savvy audience."

For many in the Philippines, the fact that the show broke a global social media record was no surprise.

Analysts say Filipinos are particularly social and community-centric. "There is often a strong connection between an individual and his community or home town," Ms Paez told the BBC.

The internet has become one of the most natural places for Filipinos to forge community.
