Viral: 10 Alarming Facts That You Should Know About Metro Manila Traffic

Viral: 10 Alarming Facts That You Should Know About Metro Manila Traffic

 Source: faq.ph

The heavy traffic in Metro Manila is not only caused by the lack of roads or the congestion of buses in the National Capital Region. The stressful traffic jams are also due to many other factors, such as the overpopulation of residents, congestion of private vehicles, inefficient services of rail transportation, and the ineffective traffic control management in the country’s capital region.

Furthermore, the effects of Metro Manila’s traffic is not only limited to the delays suffered by the riding public but traffic congestion can also cause air pollution, noise pollution, vehicular accidents, and an unhealthy economy in the region and even in the national level.

Whether you’re residing in Metro Manila or just a concerned Filipino citizen, here are 10 alarming facts that are related to the heavy traffic in the region that you should know:

1. In 2013, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) listed a total of 2,101,148 motor vehicles registered in NCR or 27% of the country’s 7,690,038 total registered motor vehicles. In 2015, the total motor vehicles in Metro Manila has already peaked at 2.5 million.

2. Metro Manila has only 1,032 kilometers of roads or 3.5% of the total 39,370 kilometers of roads nationwide. The National Capital Region has only one kilometer of road per 424 vehicles.

3. The traffic demand in Metro Manila is at 12.8 million trips. 69% of these total trips are done using public transport yet only 22% of the road space is occupied by public vehicles. The other 78% of road space is taken by private vehicles.

4. A study by the National Center for Transportation Studies says that the heavy traffic in Metro Manila cost the country 137.5 billion pesos in 2011.

5. The total population of Metro Manila as of 2010 is already at 11,855,975 which is almost 12% of the total population of the Philippines. The total land area of Metro Manila (638 square kilometers) is only 0.21% of the total land area of the Philippines (300,000 square kilometers).

6. Manila, Pateros and Caloocan are the top 3 most densely populated cities in the world. Manila has a population density of 42,857 people living per square kilometer.

7. As of 2010, the number of informal settler families in Metro Manila is already more than half a million. This number is already 20% of the total number of household in Metro Manila. 41% of these informal settlers are located in government owned lands while 34% are in privately owned lands.

8. 20% of the total income of the poor in Metro Manila is spent on transportation. This percentage is more than what they spend for rice (15% ), utilities (6.97% ), health (2.99% ), clothing (2.96% ) and education (3.37% ).

9. 85% of air pollution in Metro Manila comes from vehicles.

10. According to a COA report, a P1.314-billion allocation from the Disbursement Acceleration Program for the rehabilitation of Light Rail Transit 1 and 2 was released in full by the Aquino’s administration in January 2014. However, the rehabilitation projects have not yet been implemented due to several project revisions. In the same month, the MMDA has launched a new traffic signalling system worth P290 million.

In case you wonder who this former child star turned box-office actress that veteran actor/director/star builder Edgar Mortiz said did not pay respect to him during the recently held Star Magic Ball, guess no more.

Allegedly, it was Kathryn Bernardo who (un) intentionally ignored Direk Bobot who created the kiddie gag show Goin' Bulilit where Kathryn started as a young star.

The confirmation came directly from Mortiz' children Badjie, Camille and Frasco based on the series of Tweets below:

JM de Guzman Threatens to Kill Enrique Gil?

JM de Guzman Threatens to Kill Enrique Gil?

This post has been deleted from JM de Guzman's Instagram account

Gossip blog Fashion Pulis posted another report shedding light to what really caused the separation between reunited couple JM de Guzman and Jessy Mendiola and how the "All Of Me" actor is taking the in-flight incident between his girl and Kapamilya actor Enrique Gil.

While people are still trying to understand the breakup of JM  and Jessy, a source revealed that things got complicated between the two after the London flight incident.

After JM learned the details of the incident, he got really angry and allegedly threatened to kill Enrique for what he did to Jessy during the flight. More than the verbal fuss, the drunk Enrique allegedly rubbed his thing on the actress.

Enrique then showed JM's threatening text to an executive of the network. What is not clear was if JM was banned from attending the Star Magic Ball or he purposely did not go.  With the tension between JM and Enrique, trouble might erupt if they cross paths.

While JM showed he was ready to defend Jessy's honor, the idea of hurting Enrique did not sit well with her. Thus, to avoid more hurt, the two ended their relationship.

Earlier, JM resorted to social media to challenge Enrique to an amateur martial arts fight and called out to the actor to man up. Based on the IG post of JM, Enrique has been ignoring his texts.

"Bituing Walang Ningning: The Musical" Re-run Begins October 8, 2015 at the Resorts World Manila

"Bituing Walang Ningning: The Musical" Re-run Begins October 8, 2015 at the Resorts World Manila

Resorts World Manila (RWM), through Full House Theater Company and Ultimate Productions, and in partnership with VIVA Communications, sets its sights on producing another memorable run with more musical numbers and added star power as it brings back ‘BituingWalang Ningning: The Musical’, starting October 8, 2015.

From its outstanding cast, remarkable stage design, and moving storyline, the luster of ‘Bituing Walang Ningning: The Musical’s’ first foray made sure that a second run would be inevitable. Back by popular demand, the stage adaptation of the classic Filipino drama promises to dazzle audiences anew as it takes the stage of Newport Performing Arts Theater (NPAT) for its highly anticipated encore performances.

“Bituing Walang Ningning remains to be one of the most beloved Filipino dramas. It tells a story about dreams, love, and humility, which are the virtues we are anchoring to in developing this production,” says RWM Chief Integrated Marketing  Officer Martin Paz.

Earning critical acclaim during its initial, month-long foray earlier this year, the musical captured the hearts and imagination of entertainment fans and theater enthusiasts alike. Reprising their roles as the main cast of this original, all-Filipino production are theater stars Cris Villonco, Mark Bautista, and newcomer Monica Cuenco who shined as the new Dorina Pineda, a role popularized by Sharon Cuneta on film and Sarah Geronimo on the drama’s TV stint.

A video posted by RM Marcelo (@fabulousrm) on

Accompanying the brilliant leads is a powerhouse ensemble which consists of veteran actors Jon Santos, Ronnie Liang, Jay Roa, John Nite, Michael Stuart Williams, and the first lady of Philippine musical theater Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo.

Adding to the musical’s constellation of stage stars are singer and actress Antoinette Taus, who will play alternate to Cris Villoncoas main antagonist Lavinia Arguelles, as well as multi-talented actor Epi Quizon as Jon Santos’ alternate for the role of Auntie.

‘Bituing Walang Ningning: The Musical’ brings to life a story that has transcended Philippine entertainment. Originally told over a serialized comic strip by fictionist Nerissa Cabral, the story was made into a blockbuster movie in 1985 and was then re-made into a hit television series back in 2006.
The production marked the first time a contemporary drama has crossed over multiple media, from print, cinema, television, and finally on stage. The drama’s theater foray is told along with the timeless music of the great Willy Cruz which is scored by the Manila Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Rodel Colmenar with veteran stage director Freddie Santos at the helm.

Pursuing its advocacy to ‘Champion the Filipino’, RWM continues to showcase the best of what local entertainment can offer. "Our vision is to establish an avenue for a new genre of original Pinoy performing arts that will open doors for next generation thespians, playwrights, and producers to explore," Paz added.

ASAP 20 Suspends Aiza Seguerra, The Reason Will Make You Laugh from Disbelief

Immediately after joining ASAP 20 in London, Aiza Seguerra received a not so appealing memo telling she's suspended from the show. And the reason, something that will make you laugh from disbelief.

Seemingly, the Kapamilya network disapproved her decision to join GMA-7's newest morning series “Princess in the Palace” starring Ryza Mae Dizon.

Being in this business long enough, siyempre di na ako magpapa-plastik. Pero it’s a directive galing sa management that I have to respect. After all, this is a business, they have to protect their business,” Aiza said in an interview with PEP.ph.

The acoustic singer also expressed that while she understood the decision of ASAP management, she cannot turn down the TAPE produced series as a sign of gratitude.  TAPE also produces Eat Bulaga! the show where she started her career as “Little Miss Philippines” winner back in 1987.

Wala akong sama ng loob sa management mismo. We’re not contract artists, we’re not exclusive artists. I’m a working actor, I need work. Kung ano ang may mag-offer na trabaho sa akin, and TAPE is TAPE, hinding-hindi ko hihindian ‘yan,” Aiza said.

"The Green Inferno," The Most Disturbing Horro Movie Yet Opens in PH Theaters on September 23

"The Green Inferno," The Most Disturbing Horro Movie Yet Opens in PH Theaters on September 23

After more than a year of waiting, horror movie fans will finally get to see perhaps the most disturbing, and controversial films of the year—THE GREEN INFERNO. Watch the trailer below:

Ahead of its US release, Solar Pictures unleashes the Green Inferno in local cinemas nationwide beginning September 23, 2015.

Directed by Eli Roth, the horror mastermind behind such groundbreaking films as Cabin Fever and the blockbuster Hostel franchise, Green Inferno is a terrifying, twisted and blood-soaked take on the a digital-age phenomenon known as “slacktivism.”

The Green Inferno tells the story of what happens when “slacktivism” - the well-meaning social-media response to global catastrophes - turns deadly deep in a South American rainforest.

When a group of college students take their humanitarian protest to the Amazon jungle, they are taken prisoner by the indigenous tribe they came to save. Trapped in a remote tribal village, these naïve, technology- dependent students suffer unspeakable acts as the victims of chilling and soul- destroying rituals reserved for only the most threatening intruders.

In early 2012 Eli Roth was working on a script about a group of college students who try to solve the world’s problems by using online videos to publicly embarrass anyone they see as doing wrong. Before he finished writing it, an organization called Invisible Children made the video “KONY 2012,” which urged viewers to help take down Ugandan warlord Joseph Kony.

Fueled by a worldwide social-media frenzy, the video was viewed more than 100 million times. Soon, however, the campaign came under intense criticism for oversimplifying - and in some cases misrepresenting - a complex situation, and the organization’s founder, Jason Russell, suffered a very public breakdown.

Roth was amazed that these real-life events so closely mirrored the central premise of The Green Inferno.

Everyone in the world was tweeting about something they had learned from a YouTube video, and almost shaming other people into re-tweeting it, as if you were uncaring about Ugandan child soldiers if you didn’t,” he recalls. In the end, the KONY 2012 campaign did almost nothing to solve the problems it highlighted. Yes, it raised awareness, but just re-tweeting links to YouTube videos isn’t actually going to stop warlords.

For Roth, the controversy surrounding KONY 2012 validated The Green Inferno’s core conceit - the idea that “slacktivism” is often just a way for social media users to feel like they are doing something about horrific events that are completely beyond their control. “It came from a good place, wanting to help others in a far corner of the world,” says Roth. “But ultimately it was more about people feeling better about themselves.”

Although the film offers a pointed commentary on this uniquely 21st-century trend, Roth’s primary goal is more visceral: to share with audiences his love for blood- curdling movie mayhem. “Horror movies were my passion growing up, and my favorite thing was being scared and watching scary, gory movies with my friends,” he says. “I love to terrify people. As things get worse in this world, and people feel a loss of control over things, they need an outlet, a place they are allowed to be really scared. Where better than in a horror movie?

Released by Solar Pictures, THE GREEN INFERNO opens in theaters nationwide beginning September 23.

The search for online sensation Pastillas Girl’s new inspiration continues on “It’s Showtime” after three of her admirers faced off Thursday (September 17) in a bid to win her heart.

First, there is Christopher Labao or Topher, a member of last week’s studio audience.

Then comes Jess Verano Senido, who flew in from Bacolod after expressing his attraction to Pastillas Girl on Twitter.

And now 22-year-old Evan Vergogna from Sta. Rosa Laguna, who was personally invited by Vice Ganda to come to the "It's Showtime" studio after expressing his interest to meet Pastillas Girl via romantic tweets.

All of them said they are interested in getting to know Pastillas Girl (Angelica Jane Yap in real life) better and also opened up about their personal lives.

The lads were only three of the many who responded to the call of the “It’s Showtime” hosts, who volunteered to look for a person who will help Pastillas Girl mend her heartache. This was after Pastillas Girl got on the noontime show’s “Advice Ganda” segment where she also shared the story behind her viral video.

In the said segment, Pastillas Girl asked Vice when is the best time to fall in love again after a break-up. She also revealed that her ex-boyfriend cheated on her with one of her friends.

Would Topher, Jess, and Evan do everything to prove their affection for Pastillas Girl? Will Pastillas Girl feel a real connection with one of them? Who else will appear on the show to see and talk to Pastillas Girl in person?

An emotional Angelica Jane Yap popularly known as "Pastillas Girl" appeared on "It's Showtime" Thursday afternoon opening up about the hate messages and negative comments she has been receiving on social media for the past couple of days..

"Pastillas Girl" immediately became a hit among viewers of "It's Showtime" when she made her first appearance on the show last Friday, September 11, after she was invited by comedian Vice Ganda to guest on his advice segment.

The appearance triggered a quest to find her "Mr. Pastillas," which set Twitter ablaze with thousands of hopeful suitors.

But "Pastillas Girl" is not everyone's cup of tea. Some netizens do not like her, posting hate messages on Twitter.

Aware of the bashing that "Pastillas Girl" has been getting on Twitter, Vice Ganda asked her: "Sa lahat ng mga nangyari, magmula nang nagsimula tayo, hangaang sa puntong ito, anong nararamdaman mo?"

"Pastillas Girl" tried to hold back her emotions, but tears started flowing when she saw her mother, who was also in the "Showtime" studio to support her.

"Sa totoo lang, bago sa akin itong lahat. Totoong tao ako, lahat ng nakikita niyo ay totoo. Hindi po ako artista. Bago po ito lahat sa akin. Sana kilalanin niyo muna ako bago niyo ako i-judge. Lahat ng tanong niyo kaya kong sagutin, binuksan ko po 'yong buhay ko para po dito," she said.

"Hindi po ako perpektong tao, nagkakamali rin po ako, kaya sana kung magja-judge po tayo ng isang tao, tignan po muna natin 'yong sarili natin. Kasi ang sakit e, tao lang din ako. Hindi por que nakangiti ako, nakakatulog na rin ako ng maayos sa gabi." she added.

"Pastillas Girl" also thanked her growing number of supporters on social media. She currently has a fan page in Facebook that has over 150,000 likes, while her account on Twitter has over 30,000 followers.
