PBA Superstars Topbill TV5's Newest Sunday Sitcom "No Harm No Foul"

PBA Superstars Topbill TV5's Newest Sunday Sitcom "No Harm No Foul"

 TV5 Press Release

In line with TV5’s commitment to bringing action-packed sports and signature light entertainment programs, the Happy Network strengthens its Sunday night offensive with a sitcom that combines Filipinos’ love for basketball and TV viewers’ fondness for laugh-out-loud hilarious antics.

Kapatid singer-songwriter Ogie Alcasid – together with basketball superstars Gary David, Beau Belga, Willie Miller and Kiefer Ravena – topbills No Harm No Foul, a weekend primetime sitcom that tells the misadventures of old-time friends who reunite to become their barangay’s unbeatable basketball champs.

No Harm No Foul also stars Tuesday Vargas, Yoyong Martirez, Eula Caballero, Valeen Montenegro, Sophie Albert, Long Mejia and Randy Santiago, who also helms the sitcom as its director.

The series follows the story of Jawo (Ogie), the former center of his barangay basketball varsity team, who reconnects with erstwhile teammates Gary (Gary), Bo (Beau), Kuya Wil (Willie), their old mentor Coach Tim Co (Yoyong), and water boy Kiefer (Kiefer) to reorganize their team and reclaim their past hardcourt glory. Back in the day, Jawo used to rent the apartment of Coach Tim at “presyong kaibigan”. Unfortunately, years later, the team has grown apart and Jawo’s dream of becoming a professional basketball player never happened – because he stopped growing, literally!

Coach Tim Co’s daughter Crispa (Tuesday), now in-charge of their family’s apartment business, threatens to evict Jawo after she finds out his six-month rent overdue. With the looming crisis of being homeless if he doesn’t earn money to pay his rent soon, Jawo finds his last resort in basketball as Quezon City Mayor Herber Batista (Hero Bautista) announces a “paliga” called Palarong Inter-Barangay Association or Pi-BA, where the winning team will get a cash prize. Crispa also joins the venture and gives Jawo a chance after seeing an opportunity to progress her political ambitions through the inter-barangay event.

Jawo searches far and wide to gather his former teammates. Gary is now a dancing MMDA traffic enforcer, Bo a food cart vendor specializing in extra rice, Wil a “kargador” at the public market, while Kiefer is a handsome tricycle driver who has become popular with the ladies. With the promise of winning a million pesos and reviving their former glory, they all form Team Galas and camp in inside Jawo’s crammed apartment where the beds are too short and the doorways and refrigerator are too low for comfort, especially for the towering teammates.

Of course, boys will be boys, and across the street these basketboleros find their weakness. Michelle (Eula Caballero), a promodizer who moonlights at different companies to earn a living, will capture Jawo’s heart. Her housemate and friend Didi (portrayed by FHM July cover girl Valeen Montenegro) is a zumba and dance instructor who will put the boys back in shape. Despite her provocative taste in fashion, she’s conservative – never been touched and never been kissed. Didi will be Gary’s love interest. Meanwhile, Kiefer’s attention falls for Kim (Sophie Albert), a jobless girl who gets what she wants by charming the many men who falls for her.

Stakes get higher as Jawo’s former teammate Lebron (Randy Santiago) returns to the country after going around the world. Jawo and Lebron used to be friends until Jawo accidentally elbowed Lebron in a heated basketball match, resulting to the latter’s permanent eye injury. With his sidekick Wade (Long Mejia), Lebron devises a plan to make sure Jawo ultimately fails to win the basketball league and simultaneously lose his chance with Michelle, whose heart Lebron schemes to capture for himself.

Will Jawo ever realize his basketball dreams and win Michelle’s heart or will Lebron be successful in his schemes? Will Team Galas be able to bring home the glory and the cash prize or will Crispa be able to evict Jawo for good?

No Harm No Foul rolls out the hardcourt laughter beginning this Sunday, July 5 at 8PM, only on TV5.

PBB 737 Livestream Terminated Due to Malicious Social Media Posts on Bailey and Kenzo

To protect the welfare of housemates Kenzo Gutierrez and Bailey May who are both in their teens, ABS-CBN issues a statement condemning the malicious social media posts about their brotherly romance and to announce the netwrork's decision to shutdown its 24/7 livestream.

The statement, released by ABS-CBN Corporate Communications Head Kane Choa on Friday, reads:

Pinoy Big Brother 737" housemates Bailey May, 12, and Kenzo Gutierrez, 18, have recently been the subject of malicious posts that have gone viral on social media. These posts are made by irresponsible netizens who maliciously take screenshots from the program's live stream and weave a narrative that is not only far from the truth, but also attempts to put the housemates in a bad light. They mislead the public by manipulating the images to put malice to otherwise innocent acts.

ABS-CBN vehemently condemns these irresponsible social media posts that malign the reputation of the housemates. We are concerned with the welfare of our young housemates and it is our responsibility to protect them. We will not allow them to be subjected to cyberbullying.  We will not tolerate the abuse of social media.

To put a stop to this, ABS-CBN is taking a stand on the issue by shutting down the free 24/7livestreaming of the program on cable TV and online starting tonight. We appeal to the public to stop perpetuating abuse and use social media responsibly.

SUN Becomes PH Fastest Growing Postpaid Brand, Beating Globe with Double-Digit Growth

SUN Becomes PH Fastest Growing Postpaid Brand, Beating Globe with Double-Digit Growth

On the back of its strong first quarter figures, Sun is confident that it will continue outpacing rival network Globe Telecom, Inc. with double-digit growth in postpaid subscribers this year, affirming its position as the country’s fastest growing postpaid brand.

Sun dominated the mobile postpaid segment during the first quarter of 2015 with a remarkable 18% year-on-year growth in its postpaid subscriber base, according to the latest disclosure of its parent firm PLDT. Meanwhile, Globe posted a 9% year-on-year growth in terms of postpaid subscriber base over the same period.

Sun’s stellar performance in the postpaid segment has been hugely driven by feature-packed plans that give subscribers unbeatable value for their money,” said Sun Vice President Joel Lumanlan.

We are very confident that Sun will sustain this momentum of double-digit growth and outpace its direct competitor as we roll out highly competitive products that appeal to the wise spender in every Filipino. Sun’s strategy has always been simple: empower Filipinos with a much better choice for their mobile services,” he added.

Choose Better campaign

This strategy resonates in Sun’s newly launched ‘Choose Better’ campaign, which encourages mobile users to rethink their options, cut through all the fluff and settle for the choice that offers the better value.

Under the campaign, Sun is pushing Sun Best Value Plan 450, an entry-level postpaid plan which already comes with a free Android phone plus a monthly pack of unlimited Sun calls and texts; 20 hours of mobile surfing; free Freebook, and 250 texts to other networks.

On the other hand, Sun offers broadband users with Non Stop Surf Plan 450, which provides nonstop surfing; additional 1GB data for data streaming; and another 1GB music streaming on the Spinnr app.

As part of its aggressive campaign, Sun is also boosting its prepaid offers like Super Loaded Call &Text Unlimited 100 (which features unlimited calls to Sun, Smart and Talk ‘N Text; unlimited texts to all networks; and 100MB data now valid for 7 days), and its prepaid broadband pack Non Stop Surf 25 (which now includes 50MB data for light online activities; 25MB data allowance for heavy online activities’ and 300MB worth of content Spinnr, valid for one day).

Sun, The Fastest Growing Postpaid Brand in 2014

In 2014, Sun emerged as the fastest growing postpaid brand in the country after posting a remarkable 16 percent year-on-year growth in terms of subscriber base, compared to the 12 percent growth posted by Globe over the same period.

PBB 737 Gets Suspension Notice from MTRCB

PBB 737 Gets Suspension Notice from MTRCB

This just in! The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) has summoned the people behind the production of the latest edition of ABS-CBN's hit reality show "Pinoy Big Brother" to a proceeding on July 9.

According to Ricardo Salomon, Jr., Co-chairperson of the MTRCB Hearing and Adjudication Committee, the agency have been receiving "numerous feedback and complaints" about the "PBB."

The MTRCB letter read:

We would like to know what safety measures you have in place so as to guarantee that no participant in your program is exposed to situations, challenges and experiences which may by prejudicial to his or her well-being or which may have a negative impact on the youth and other audiences who will be watching your show."

Since its pilot episode on June 20, the online community went crazy over the suspected gay romance between 12-year-old housemate Bailey May from UK and 18 year-old Atenean athlete Kenzo Gutierrez. Although, netizens are in favor of their bromance inside PBB House (proving the numerous Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts created solely for their "loveteam" which fans called #KenLey), others thought it is nothing but exploitation. Just early this week, the show has been airing the brewing romance between Bailey and 16-year-old Barbie Imperial from Albay.

Check out some of the PBB 737 clips below taken from the show's 24/7 live feed:

Do you agree with MTRCB's call to put the show on strict monitoring? SPG rating?

Is suspension a fair move?

Is there really an exploitation going on for ratings' sake?

Chef Boy Logro Gives Back on His 59th Birthday via Cooking Challenge with CLICKS Students

Kapuso Cooking Star Chef Pablo Logro, fondly called “Chef Boy” gives back on his 59th birthday when he decided to spent his birthday via cooking challenge with the students his very own Chef Logro Institute of Culinary and Kitchen School (CLICKS) in GMA, Cavite.

A man that has been truly blessed in his life, Chef Boy Logro is a real-life “Culinary Cinderella” as his life is truly an inspiring one. Hailing from Kawayan Biliran Province, Chef Boy is the second son among eight children. Throughout his life he used his talents, wit and hardwork to get to where he is now.

He worked as a service crew for a popular fastfood chain, a dishwasher, janitor and helper but eventually he became a Sous Chef for the King of Oman or at Qaboos bin Said al Said’s Palace.

His stint at the Palace brought him to different countries like Italy, Switzerland, Spain and United Kingdom where he learned several food styles.

When he came back to the Philippines, he didn’t know anyone to help him so he started with a rank and file job with only Php 12,000 salary at Diamond Hotel. However it wasn’t long as his skills in conversing in Japanese, his regal way of presentation and relating to people (he used to serve the King of Oman remember?), his happy disposition and humble demeanor he soon became the country’s first ever Filipino Executive Chef in a five star hotel.

Today, Chef Boy is not just a Culinary Consultant but also a famous chef who owns the “7 Flavors” restaurant in San Juan, a Cooking school in Cavite and soon in Davao, a star of his own Cooking shows – BOY LOGRO: KUSINA MASTER and IDOL SA KUSINA both for the Kapuso network, have nurtured hundred of scholars under his wing, has his own purified water business and even built a Church with his own money.

During the event, Chef Boy shares his blessings with the Cavite State University Students where in four of its students were given a Cooking Challenge, they are Joanecel D. Aspera, John Mark Anthony R. Gloria, Princess Xenica M. Patoc and Gellene C. Violata.

These four students were asked to create their most unique, most “Angel Kremdensada” dessert in 30 minutes. The winner in this competition will win a scholarship at CLICKS (Bread and Pastry Prodution NC II). The judges for this competition were Chef Boy himself and the students’ Dean Dean Dra. Yolanda Ilagan.

After the deliberation and while the scores were being calculated, Chef Boy’s family and CLICKS’ Employees had a special production number where they sang their own version of the “Happy Birthday Song”, followed by random greetings to our birthday celebrant.

All participants were given a Certificate of Participation and special prizes from Angels Kremdensada, Omega Housewares. For today’s competition, Princess Xenica M. Patoc wins the grand prize for her dessert.

To cap the celebration, guests once again were game in singing the birthday song for Chef Boy before he blew the candle of his birthday cake. Justin Bieber "Where Are U Now" with Skrillex and Diplo - Official Music Video

Skrillex and Diplo released the official music video for “Where Are Ü Now” with Justin Bieber. Check out below:

On its official YouTube account, Jack Ü said:

We are being overwhelmed, in a good way, by the success of “Where Are Ü Now” with Justin Bieber, so with the video we wanted to just take it back to the beginning of the record & essentially create an ode to our fans. Doing what we do, it’s entirely all about the fans. We walk a fine line by being “famous” and in the public eye but we are only here because of you, the fans. Justin wrote this record during a tough time in his life and it comes to us that sometimes, as artists, we are also just objects and we have to take that as much as we have to use that to create. We all do this for you, respect that you put us here and it’s Ü that made the video.” - JACK Ü

Meet The "Minions", Super-Villains, Mad Scientist, Professors, Bank Robbers, etc.

When they accidentally lose yet another master, Kevin, Stuart and Bob lead the charge for their fellow Minions in search of the next master to serve, in Universal Pictures' new adventure comedy “Minions.” Their harrowing journey is far from easy, but the quest that is chronicled in the film will introduce us to everything we’ve ever wondered about them.

Kevin (Pierre Coffin) is the proud and protective “big brother” who knows that Minions without a master are Minions without a purpose. It’s Kevin who steps up and ventures out into the world with Stuart and Bob to find a new evil boss for his brethren to follow.

Stuart (Pierre Coffin) is the “middle brother” of the Minions who feels hungry, mostly, and loves being a rebellious guitar player. Although the perennial adolescent has a short attention span and is a bit apathetic about the mission, he will certainly help Kevin and Bob find the biggest, baddest villain to serve.

Bob (Pierre Coffin) is the innocent and eager “little brother” of the Minions. He embodies unconditional love for everyone and everything, and is a little nervous to go on an unknown journey with Stuart and Kevin.

Scarlet Overkill (Sandra Bullock) is the world’s first female super-villain. She is a unique combination of quick-tempered and impeccably stylish. Kevin, Stuart and Bob are drawn to her for her ability to mastermind incredible heists, and they are simultaneously terrified of and smitten by her. Scarlet hires the Minions as her henchmen and charges them with their first mission: to embark on a criminal heist that takes them to London as she attempts to achieve her lifelong dream: becoming the Queen.

Herb Overkill (Jon Hamm) is Scarlet’s mod husband and a mad scientist. Herb can usually be found in the lab inventing extraordinary ’60s-inspired gadgetry while always loving and supporting Scarlet. Known just as much for his swanky sartorial choices as he is for his ability to invent, there is nothing that Herb won’t do to champion his wife.

When he’s not a straight-laced, nerdy dad and devoted husband, Walter Nelson (Michael Keaton) is a quite-accomplished bank robber. You read that right. Walter is the patriarch of a crime-happy family of felons who meet Kevin, Stuart and Bob on their way to Villain-Con, a secret convention in Orlando where villains gather annually. If you’re a Minion who has to hitchhike across the country, there is no better chaperone.

Madge Nelson (Allison Janney), the Bonnie to Walter’s Clyde, shows you can never judge a book by its cover. Madge gleefully is the co-leader of the crime-happy Nelson family, who pick up the hitchhiking Kevin, Stuart and Bob to join Walter and their kids on their way to a family stickup.

Professor Flux (Steve Coogan) has long postulated that time is, well, relative. When the Minions encounter him at Villain-Con, they found that he’s invented a time machine and brought future versions of himself to help out in his lab. Now that he has (almost) perfected time travel, the professor is this close to changing what we’ve long held to believe is the space-continuum….

The Tower Guard (Steve Coogan) is proof positive that age doesn’t matter. When Kevin, Stuart and Bob are charged with breaking into the Tower of London to steal the Queen’s jewels for Scarlet, they think it’ll be a piece of cake to get past this hard-of-hearing and almost-blind old man. Or will it?

The Queen (Jennifer Saunders) has seen everything and ruled England for decades before the Minions hit her shore. And she’s about to find out what happens when a super-villain plots to steal her Crown Jewels and take her out of the game for good.

The Narrator (Geoffrey Rush) bookends this chapter in Kevin, Stuart and Bob’s journey and walks us through how our heroes came to be, what they’ve been up to and just where they’re going.

Opening across the Philippines on July 08, “Minions” is distributed by United International Pictures through Columbia Pictures.

The hunt is on again for the next OPM pop hit as the country’s biggest songwriting competition in the country, “Himig Handog Pinoy Pop (P-POP) Love Songs” calls for original compositions from professional and budding Filipino composers around the globe.

Professional and amateur Filipino songwriters (Filipino citizens or individuals of Filipino descent) are welcome to send in their original love songs online via the official website of the competition, himighandog.abs-cbn.com until July 31.

In three easy steps, interested applicants just need to fill out the online registration form, upload their songs, which must not be longer than four minutes, and submit their entry.

“Himig Handog P-POP Love Songs” also accepts songs that are composed by a maximum of three individual composers/lyricists, as long as an individual composer’s entry do not exceed two entries.

Songs may be written in Filipino, English or Taglish, and in any popular music genre or a fusion of known genres.

Last year, the original Filipino love song “Mahal Ka o Mahal Ako,” interpreted by KZ Tandingan and written by Edwin Marollano, won the P1 million grand prize and a trophy designed by renowned sculptor Michael Cacnio.

Now on its seventh year, “Himig Handog” continues to scour for brilliant Filipino songwriters who produce exceptional OPM love songs that can turn out to be the next set of OPM classics. Some of the OPM hit entries throughout the years are “Kung Ako Na Lang Sana,” “Hanggang,” “Scared to Death,” “Nasa Iyo Na Ang Lahat,” and “Simpleng Tulad Mo.”
