"Sunday All Stars" Bids Goodbye, Ai Ai delas Alas' Show To Compete with ASAP 20

"Sunday All Stars" Bids Goodbye, Ai Ai delas Alas' Show To Compete with ASAP 20

How true that some Kapuso artists might become jobless very, very soon should GMA network top honchos finally decided to end its Sunday noontime variety show "Sunday All Stars"?

A fresh, new show to be hosted by comedy queen AiAi delas Alas is reportedly in the works to replace the 2 year-old show.

Famous Japan porn star Maria Ozawa elevates stature in the entertainment scene as she joins Robin Padilla in the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) 2015 action-horror movie entry entitled "Nilalang (The Entity)".

The actress also express willingness to date President Noynoy Aquino, if given the opportunity.

Real-life sweethearts Erich Gonzales and Daniel Matsunaga are set to star in their first featured TV series as a couple on ABS-CBN entitled "Be My Lady".

"Be My Lady" revolves around an urban guy who will fall in love with a lady who grew up in the province.

Viva Communications, Inc., through its counsel Heather Annang, releases its response on Cherie Gil’s copyright claim on the very famous, classic line  “You’re nothing but a second-rate, trying hard copycat!” on the stage adaptation of hit movie "Bituing Walang Ningning"

First of all, Viva owns the rights to the film and the story written by Nerissa Cabral. The company hired screenwriter Orlando Nadres to write the script, director Emmanuel Borlaza to direct the film and Sharon Cuneta, Cherie Gil and other actors and actresses to perform in the film. All the work done by these people in the film belongs to Viva including that line of Cherie,” Annang noted.

“Second, under the law, for anyone to be a co-author of a literary work, there has to be a manifest intent between the parties to create the work. In this case, the line was, at most, an ad-lib so there is no intent between the scriptwriter or the alleged author to do it together. So in this case, she cannot be a co-author.”

“Third, according to Direk Maning, he was the one who thought of the line. Since he is also a scriptwriter, Boss Vic del Rosario of Viva gave him a free hand to rehash and revise the script, so even before the shooting began, Direk Maning already revised the script and added that particular line.

“Finally, a copyright exists only for 25 years. For audiovisual works like this film, the reckoning point is the date of publish or print. The movie was released in 1985 so that’s already 30 years ago today so the copyright no longer exists. That’s the position of Viva.”

Must-Watch: The Most Angelic "BoyChoir" Voices

Must-Watch: The Most Angelic "BoyChoir" Voices

From acclaimed director François Girard (THE RED VIOLIN) comes the inspirational story of a rebellious kid with a remarkable gift who is challenged by a demanding teacher to make the most unlikely of dreams come true. A stellar ensemble -- including two-time Oscar® winner Dustin Hoffman, Oscar® Winner Kathy Bates, two-time Emmy winner Eddie Izzard, three-time Oscar® nominee Debra Winger, Josh Lucas (A BEAUTIFUL MIND) and Kevin McHale (“Glee”) - headline a cast that also introduces an exciting group of newcomers as the young singers who battle each other as they take their boychoir to the competitive heights.

The rousing, music-filled tale begins with Stet (newcomer Garrett Wareing), who is struggling just to get by in a tough Texas neighborhood with an overwhelmed single mom. His school principal (Winger) is convinced his angelic singing voice is worth championing, but Stet has no idea how it might help him face the dark realities of his life. That all shifts when a sudden accident lands Stet on the East Coast at one of the most elite private boychoir schools in the country, the National Boychoir Academy. It might be his only hope, but he knows he doesn’t fit in. He’s never studied music, there’s not a single soul to support him and he’s filled with a seething rage he can’t begin to express. Even worse, he immediately runs up against the most demanding, uncompromising and compelling person he’s ever met: the school’s lauded, if increasingly jaded, Headmaster Carvelle (Hoffman).

Yet, Stet’s inner grit brings forth an astonishing sound. And the more he sings, the more Carvelle begins to see his passion growing – a passion that will impact not only Stet’s own life but those around him. From Carvelle himself to his snobbish associate Drake (Izzard) to the school’s down-to-earth headmistress (Bates) to the young teacher who fights for Stet (McHale) to the estranged father who is trying to hide his very existence (Lucas) to Devon, the star singer who is Stet’s fiercest rival (newcomer Joe West), Stet’s campaign to redeem himself begins to catch everyone’s attention. At the same time, everyone knows no boy singer’s voice can last – or survive adolescence. Change is coming, but with it, a lesson that endures: to make the absolute most of what you’ve got in the moment.

Distributed by CAPTIVE Cinema “BoyChoir” is showin in theaters nationwide on July 1, 2015.

Readers Digest Honors Philippine's Most Trusted Brands

Readers Digest Honors Philippine's Most Trusted Brands

Trust. It takes years to build, seconds to break, and forever to repair. Our lives are fueled by trust and our decisions, whether personal or professional are influenced by the confidence we have in these relationships.

In an era where too much information has its benefits and disadvantages, trust is that one factor that remains constant. Once trust is established, it becomes an instinctive response – the consumer buys the brand without so much as a second thought because they can relate to it as "their" brand.

For consumers, the mark of a trusted brand is a seal of excellence, and a relationship that goes far beyond price, trends and marketing campaigns.

For business, trust is the ultimate vote of confidence. A forward-facing measure imbued with expectation, promise and satisfaction and a solid reputation of distinction.

Most Trusted Survey

On June 30, 2015, Reader’s Digest once again recognizes these companies at the Trusted Brands Awards ceremony to be held at the ballroom A of the Marco Polo Hotel in Ortigas, Pasig.

Department of Trade and Industry Undersecretary for Consumer Protection Group (CPG) Victorio Dimagiba will be the keynote speaker while Reader’s Digest Asia Pacific Group Advertising and Retail Sales Director Sheron White will be personally awarding the trophies to the winners.

For the past 17 years, Reader's Digest has approached ordinary Filipino consumers to ask their opinions on what brands of products and services are important to them.

Backed by all these years of research, it has confidently and precisely identified the features a trusted brand must possess in order to maintain relevance and purpose for its consumers.

A trusted brand enjoys international appeal, yet at the same time upholds a strong local connection.  It has individual relevance for all its consumers, just about anywhere and in any culture.

Cost, quality and desirability are all important factors for consumers. Yet it's vital for a brand to stay true to its promises. While brands come in and out of vogue, those that capture our attention, maintain our confidence and win over our trust do so by holding fast to their core principles.

For the Trusted Brand Survey, Readers Digest has commissioned leading global market research company Ipsos to survey a representative sample of people in Asia on their most trusted brands in 42 categories of products and services across a wide range of industries.

Approximately 5,000 individuals were selected across 5 of Asia’s key markets such as the Philippines, HongKong, Malaysia, and Taiwan.

In the Philippines, around 1000 respondents completed the survey. Half were subscribers to Reader's Digest, while the remainder were selected to reflect the demographics of the general population.

Each respondent was required to complete a questionnaire or participate in a mail, face to face, telephone or online survey. Ipsos asked each participant to tell us the name of their most trusted brands and then to rate each of those brands listed on the following six attributes: Trustworthiness, Credibility, Quality, Value, Understanding of Customer Needs, Innovation and Social Responsibility.  This year the awards will be presented in each of the 42 categories.

GOLD Trusted Brands Awards – will be given to brands that scored significantly higher than their rivals.

PLATINUM Trusted Brands Awards – will be given to brands that performed exceptionally, winning their category for at least 3 countries surveyed.

ASIA TRUSTED Brand Awards will be given to a brand that wins the Reader's Digest Trusted Brand award in the same category for at least three countries surveyed.

Pokwang to Leave the Philippines to Join Boyfriend Lee O’Brien in the U.S.

Pokwang to Leave the Philippines to Join Boyfriend Lee O’Brien in the U.S.

Is Pokwang willing to leave the country for the sake of love?

In an interview with Pang-Masa, the "Nathaniel" actress said she is open to leaving the Philippines to stay in the U.S. with her boyfriend Lee O’Brien as long as they are both ready and prepared for the “future.”

Kung nakahanda na siya, kung handa siya sa magiging future namin. Pero bakit naman ako pupunta na iiwanan ko ‘yung trabaho ko, na iri-risk ko (kung hindi pa ready)?” she said.

Pokwang and Lee meant while doing the movie “Edsa Woolworth,” which was shown in theaters last January. The actress said she and Lee, a working actor in America, officially a couple in February.

Is Lee also willing to stay in the Philippines for good? The actor is staying in the country until August to do a TV project.

Ako, okay lang kung ano ang desisyon niya. Basta ngayon, gusto ko munang mapatapos ang anak ko, makapagtayo ng negosyo, ‘yung next, bahala na,” Pokwang said.

Although she openly admits that she wants to be with Lee for the long haul, Pokwang reveals they haven’t discussed settling down in the near future. “Pero siyempre, looking forward naman. Pero dapat, pinaghahandaan, hindi basta-basta,”.

“Mabait siya (Lee), eh. Saka magaling makisama. Ang nakakatawa, mas marami pa siyang alam sa history ng Pilipinas kaysa sa akin,” Pokwang quipped.

TV5's Local Flagship Newscast "Aksyon Dabaw" Celebrates 1st Year with Special Public Service Caravan

TV5's Local Flagship Newscast "Aksyon Dabaw" Celebrates 1st Year with Special Public Service Caravan

“Higit sa Balita, Aksyon!” More than just a phrase that spells out the battle cry of News5 – TV5’s acclaimed News and Information Arm – these words have been etched into the culture and being of every member of the entire organization, where aside from being dedicated to deliver the latest news to the public, News5 further reaches out to make an impact to even more Filipinos from all walks of life through its practice of cause journalism and its various public service campaigns.

Such was the case when the Kapatid Network’s local flagship newscast in Davao City, “Aksyon Dabaw”, recently marked its 1st Year Anniversary, and instead of celebrating this milestone in typical fashion, the TV5 Davao team had long decided to make the affair more meaningful and significant by sharing the moment with less fortunate Kapatids.

Spearheaded by the “Aksyon Dabaw” team, a half-day medical mission and public service caravan, alongside free services from various local and national government agencies was organized for the over 2,000 residents of Barangay Mini-Forest in Davao City – where an event of this kind and scale was held for just the very first time.

On top of the free food each resident was treated to, they were also given the opportunity to more importantly consult with medical experts regarding their many concerns about their health, fitness and well-being. Stations for medical check-ups, dental tooth extraction, as well as for screening of cysts and pap smear tests, were conducted. And for those who were prescribed medicines during the medical consultations, they were likewise given free medicines, eye glasses, and other giveaways to take home.

The “Aksyon Dabaw” team partnered with the local government and other critical national offices and agencies, such as the City Health Office, DOLE, in order for the residents to have face time with them and finally address whatever additional concerns they may have. Booths for SSS and PAG-IBIG registrations were likewise conveniently set up in the venue.

At the end of the day, despite having come from a very traumatic experience where their entire barangay became unfortunate victims to 2 big fires, the residents of Barangay Mini Forest – young and old, men and women alike – were visibly happy and excited to have been part of this event and celebration, with smiles beaming and reaching from ear to ear.

Being one with the entire News5 organization, the “Aksyon Dabaw” team clearly showed that a local newscast can impact even more lives by going above and beyond just reading the news and delivering information, indeed perfectly embodying what the battle cry “Higit sa Balita, Aksyon!” stands for.

As perfectly embodied by the “Aksyon Dabaw” team, the battle cry “Higit sa Balita, Aksyon” means more than just impacting lives through informing the public of the latest news and current events.

“Aksyon Dabaw” airs daily in Davao at 3:15PM only on TV5.

This medical mission and public service caravan organized by “Askyon Dabaw” was made possible through the generous support and participation of the following groups and individuals: Mr. Joey Serena, Congressman Karlo Nograles, Alagang Kapatid Foundation Inc., Don Antonio Floirendo Foundation, Julie’s Bakeshop, KBA Ad Pro, Sunny Point and Function Plaza, Pearl Beau Salon, Entrepreneur Lion’s Club, Philippine Army 10th ID, Task Force Davao, Davao Doctor’s Hospital, City Health Office, Good Samaritan Fellowship, Dr. Reginald A, Jopson, Social Security System Region XI, Pag-Ibig Region XI, Department of Labor and Employment Region XI and its line agencies – PRC, POEA, OWWA, RTWPB XI, NCMB XI, TESDA, ECC, and OSH Regional Extension Unit, Wiltelcom/Cignal, H20 Purified Drinking Water, Councilor Ibuyan, Barangay 23-C Headed by Barangay Captain Alimudin Usman, and Brokenshire College.

DiabetaMil, Gary Valenciano's Weapon Against Diabetes Now Available in Stores Nationwide

DiabetaMil, Gary Valenciano's Weapon Against Diabetes Now Available in Stores Nationwide

The International Diabetes Foundation has reported that the Philippines has been named as one the world’s emerging diabetes hotspot having treated 3.2 million cases in 2014 alone.

In its simplest terms, diabetes is a lifelong chronic condition that affects the body’s ability to use the energy found in food. For non-diabetics, the sugar and carbohydrates in the food are transformed into glucose, which the cells absorb in the bloodstream with the help of a hormone called insulin. Diabetics do not produce or do not have enough insulin in the body and therefore cannot absorb the glucose, which creates a build-up in the blood and often leads to more serious illnesses.

As this is seen as a very serious disease, there is a mindset that people living with diabetes lead very restricted lives. This is a misconception that Gary Valenciano is very familiar with, but this has not discouraged him from becoming the success that he is.

Gary was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when he was just fourteen years old and was told by his doctors that he would not live past the age of forty. Thirty-seven years after his diagnosis and more than 90,000 insulin injections later, Gary has never been more active in both his personal and professional life. The artist, performer, athlete and family man’s strong resolve to constantly defeat the disease comes after his worst hypoglycemicattack in 2005, which almost claimed his life.  Ten years after that fateful event, he is now complication free and has been called a living miracle by many doctors.

How does he do it? His outlook is one of great resolve. “I’m living a life with diabetes but I won’t let it stop me”, he has said in a 2009 interview with Ces Drilon. He believes that with proper management of the disease, it allows him to live a rich, dynamic life. This multi-awarded performer shares that religiously doing exercise, careful observation of his blood sugar, taking the right medication and having a proper diet helps him in his miraculous journey in dealing with diabetes.

A diet that includes DiabetaMil is one that he lives by. This reduced calorie, sugar-free Cereal and Non-Cereal drink contain vitamins, minerals and protein specially formulated for people with diabetes. It is enriched with Chromium Picolinate and Dietary Fiber, is high in Calcium and has a Low Glycemic (GI) Value.

The mineral Chromium Picolinate found in the drink can aid in both glucose and insulin metabolism by breaking down the fats, protein and cholesterol. Dr. Lanny Lestiani, a Medical Nutritionist at the University of Indonesia, testifies that ‘chromium showed its potential in improving insulin sensitivity; DiabetaMil enriched with chromium (250 mcg per serving) may be beneficial for diabetics to improve their glycemic control’. In addition, this nutritional drink also fulfills the Codex requirement as source of calcium, which can be beneficial in optimizing glucose metabolism.

The high fiber oat content in DiabetaMil Chocolate & Vanilla drinks, help lower bad cholesterol. It also contains a glycemic index (GI) value level of 30.5 which helps reduce overall blood glucose level.

Several nutritionists have confirmed the benefits of including DiabetaMil to a diabetic’s daily balanced diet. “The usage of non-sugar sweetening agents (sucralose and acesulfame K) to DiabetaMil may help diabetics reduce their blood glucose level”, attests Dr. Widjaja Lukito, an associate professor of the Nutrition Department at the University of Indonesia. Because DiabetaMil is a reduced calorie meal substitute, it ‘can help diabetics control their body weight’, endorses Ayu Dwi Irianti, a Nutrition Coordinator at one of Jakarta’s premier hospitals.

Aside from the multi-flavored nutritional drinks, DiabetaMil also offerslow-calorie and sugar-free cookies suitable for diabetics. Snacks have an important role in the daily diet as they help keep blood glucose levels as close to normal as possible.

DiabetaMil has a delicious lineup of cereal (Vanilla and Chocolate flavors) & non-cereal drinks (Moccachinno flavor) and cookies (Nutty Chocolate and Vanilla Dried Fruit flavors) that allows one a healthy and nutritious meal without sacrificing its taste. Just like Gary, DiabetaMil believes that there are DiabetaMillion ways to enjoy life. So don’t let diabetes stop youfrom enjoying life!

DiabetaMil is available in all leading supermarkets, groceries and drugstores.

Myx TV, the only English-language multicultural Asian American entertainment network in the U.S, has been chosen as one of the official entertainment partners of Got Your 6, a campaign that unites the entertainment industry with top veteran-focused nonprofits to change the conversation in America, so that veterans and military families are perceived as leaders and civic assets.  With this, Myx TV joins the likes of DreamWorks, Sony Pictures, Paramount Pictures, HBO and other media giants in supporting the campaign.

Myx TV General Manager Miguel Santos said, "We are proud to be an official entertainment industry partner of Got Your 6. We are committed to fostering dialogue and understanding of veterans and veteran issues within the Asian American community and beyond."

Santos was invited last January to the launch of "6 Certified", in which content creators are encouraged to avoid "negative, stereotypical or extreme depictions of veterans as either "charity cases" or "heroes".  The event was organized by Got Your 6, a group devoted to accurate portrayals of veterans in entertainment. Studios and producers can earn a "6 Certified" badge to display during film or TV series credits if they follow and support.  No less than First Lady Michelle Obama gave the keynote remarks at the event. The Got Your 6 campaign was launched in 2012 after the First Lady called on the entertainment industry to boost the depiction of veterans, as part of her Joining Forces initiative. Got Your 6 comes from the military term that means “I’ve got your back.”

Bailey May on Spotlight: PBB 737 Teen Housemate

Bailey May on Spotlight: PBB 737 Teen Housemate

Name: Bailey Thomas May, ang "Global Gwapito ng UK"
Origin: United Kingdom
Age: 12
Occupation: Student
Hobbies: Playing Football, Basketball and Rugby, Singing

About Bailey:

This Social Media Singing Sensation got his vocal talent from his British dad and Filipina mom who were both singers in a cruise ship when they met. Bailey was born in Cebu, but has been living in the UK with his family since he was 4yo. He’s into sports (football, basketball, rugby), music and girl watching with his friends (Bailey has never had a girlfriend, though).

Throughout their seven years in the UK, Bailey and his family has visited his mom’s relatives in Cebu a few times, exposing Bailey to Filipino culture and dishes. In fact, some of Bailey’s favorite food include munggo and puto. And believe it or not, Bailey eats balut, too! On the other hand, speaking in Filipino (Tagalog and Bisaya) was never really practiced in their household so Bailey only knows “konting” Tagalog and “gamay” na Bisaya, which explains the Filipino dictionary in Bailey’s luggage when we rummaged through the stuff that he’ll be bringing inside the Pinoy Big Brother House. Will his love for Filipino food and his Filipino dictionary be enough to help Bailey adjust and fit in with his other Teen Housemates? Will he be able to prove that he has the heart of the Filipino and deserves to be the next Teen Big Winner? Find out on PBB737 Teen Edition!

Two reasons could be accounted for that: Kenzo is the youngest and only boy among five siblings, and his parents are separated. His dad is a businessman, while his mom is a stock broker. You could say that Kenzo is used to living a comfortable life, but being a soccer player, he knows the value of hard work.

He may also come off as someone suplado, but according to Kenzo, he just tends to be quiet around people he just met, but he can be funny once he starts to warm up with the people around him. Will he be able to show his funny side and make friends inside the Pinoy Big Brother House as he takes a shot at becoming the PBB737 Teen Big Winner?

Belly Button Challenge: Why It Is Not Good For You

Belly Button Challenge: Why It Is Not Good For You

Netizens are getting ga-ga over a new online trend - the “belly button challenge” which began in China but now fast becoming a worldwide sensation among thousands of young social media users.

The challenge? Post your very own photo or video showing you trying to reach an arm behind your back and around to touch your belly button.

The prize? Online praises and affirmations that you are thin enough to reach around yourself.

Check out some of the success stories below:

But why health experts say it is ridiculous, dangerous and something you should not try? Check out some of the reasons why you should not try the Belly Button Challenge:

1. Body shame and dangerous culture glorifying disordered eating, which is a social disease.

2. It’s actually a test of shoulder flexibility, not fitness. The shoulder has the greatest range of motion of any joint in the body. If you’re looking to impress people, how about telling them that fact?

3. It is insensitive to people who don’t have belly buttons. These people were nourished in the womb only by inhaling amniotic fluids like some kind of uterus fish, and so are small in size and character. They are given to retribution and should not be mocked.

4. Even if you can touch your belly button, that doesn’t change the fact that no one likes a gloater. Support that you may receive on social media is hollow envy masquerading as love, people drawing you close only to be near enough to have a good view when you fall.

5. Several people have tried so hard that their arms have fallen off. Usually at the shoulder, but sometimes at the elbow or wrist.

6. Belly buttons are loaded with bacteria, for better or worse.

Ellen Adarna to Liza Soberano: "Sobrang ganda mo lang. Sarap sugatan ng face!"

Ellen Adarna recently left a rather "brutal" comment on Liza Soberano's photo that shocked everyone.

A photo posted by Hope Elizabeth (@lizasoberano) on

Instead of taking the actress's comment seriously, Liza's fans took the Pasion de Amor star's  comment for what it was, as a joke. Some of the fans even laughed at the comment while the others jokingly teased Ellen for going "tomboy" over the Just The Way You Are actress.
