“Insidious: Chapter 3” Takes a Darker-Than-Ever Turn into 'The Further'

“Insidious: Chapter 3” Takes a Darker-Than-Ever Turn into 'The Further'

Columbia Pictures Press Release

Imagine a world that lives alongside the everyday; more frightening than your nightmares, it seeps through your dreams into your waking life. This world is inhabited by the dead and the never-alive, and is in conflict with the world of the living. Its demon denizens want to return from one world to the other. Some ghosts hope to make sense of their deaths; some spirits yearn to reconnect with their loved ones. But many burn to exorcise their anger, to indulge their jealousy, to wield their hatred and resentment, to exact revenge at any cost...

This netherworld is The Further, created by Leigh Whannell and James Wan in the hit movies “Insidious” and “Insidious: Chapter 2.” With “Insidious: Chapter 3,” the terrifying horror series takes a darker-than-ever turn into The Further.

Producer Jason Blum, whose company Blumhouse has also produced the “Sinister,” “The Purge,” “Ouija,” and “Paranormal Activity” franchises, says, “James and Leigh have created their own unique, terrifying world with `Insidious,' and this chapter takes us deeper and deeper into The Further.

Whannell, writer and director on the new movie, opines that “people who love a good scare dig the `Insidious' films. We want audiences to be absolutely terrified.

While dialing up the chills, “Insidious: Chapter 3” turns back the clock; it takes place years before the first two chapters which detailed the escalating haunting of the Lambert family. With the family’s fate resolved in “Insidious: Chapter 2,” Whannell was keen to shine the spotlight on a constant in the tales: indomitable psychic Elise Rainier, portrayed by Lin Shaye.

Elise had been killed off as part of the struggle to save the Lamberts, but “I love the character and I wondered how I could bring her back,” says Whannell. “Dealing with ‘ghost Elise’ wasn’t the idea; I wanted her alive! People enjoyed the time-spanning storytelling that we advanced in the second movie, and I felt that would help me find a story that gives deeper meaning to Elise’s journey.

I started to devise an origin story, a prequel set a few years before the first movie wherein concepts central to Insidious take shape, and where we could explore Elise’s background. Once I started writing this, I fell in love with the piece.

Shaye was impressed at how Whannell’s script “gives you more details about the characters; in “Insidious: Chapter 3,” we learn more about Elise’s personal life. These ideas were exciting, because character and story are what matter to me.”

Blum enthuses that “when you see Lin playing Elise on-screen, you believe that she’s able to communicate with demons and ghosts. In most movies about the paranormal, it’s hard to make the character of the expert feel credible, but Lin is terrific at doing just that.

Whannell says, “Lin is an actor whom you love having on the set, because she’s 100% committed at all times. When you’re a writer, it’s encouraging having an actor talk over your script so much with you.

I had a lot of discussions with Lin while I was writing Insidious: Chapter 3, and I feel we’ve made her character even stronger than in the first two films – with a real range of emotions that she can express so well.

Wan affirms, “Lin Shaye is the beating heart of these movies, and now the new movie is able to continue and expand upon the series’ legacy.”

Whannell offers, “I started to see Elise’s arc in `Insidious: Chapter 3' as reframing the classic Western story of the gunslinger who comes out of retirement. Or, these days, it’s an assassin who does so. But how often do we get to see it with an older woman?

While the new storyline has much to offer faithful viewers of the movies, it is also inviting in an audience that can come to the saga fresh. Whannell reminds, “Everyone has fears, no matter what their culture or country. At its core, every ghost story is about death and loss. That is why they are relatable. `Insidious: Chapter 3' is no exception; people can see this movie having seen neither of the previous chapters and they will understand what the characters here go through.

Opening across the Philippines on June 05, 2015, “Insidious: Chapter 3” is distributed by Columbia Pictures, local office of Sony Pictures Releasing International.

TV5 Leads Philippine TV Ratings, PBA Commissioner's Cup Finals Makes History

TV5 Leads Philippine TV Ratings, PBA Commissioner's Cup Finals Makes History

TV5 Press Release

If there was still any doubt as to why the Philippines is a bona fide ‘basketball nation’, then TV5’s live and exclusive airing of the still much talked about Game 7 between Talk ‘N Text and Rain or Shine during the PLDT Home Telpad PBA 2015 Commissioner’s Cup Finals should speak volumes on how much Pinoys just cannot get enough of the hardcourt action in the PBA.

With on-court controversies, off-court drama, new rivalries and the undeniably enthralling action between the two teams further hyping what was already an unprecedented match that marked a first in PBA history where a do-or-die Game 7 finals match would extend regulation to a double overtime, recent overnight data from Nielsen Media Research shows that the Kapatid Network’s coverage of the game raked in high viewership ratings, marking a total average of 6.2% AMR and 22.5% in audience share.

This proved to be more than enough to propel the telecast among the Top 9 most watched primetime shows, and the highest sporting program to be broadcast on that day in the National Urban TV Audience Measurement (NUTAM).

Aside from being the most watched offering of the Kapatid Network during the primetime block, it is also most worthy to note that at its peak, the game was watched by a whopping number of over 4.1 million viewers, with TV5 even lording over the ratings game against both ABS-CBN and GMA-7 within the channel’s coverage of the grueling overtime periods of the match. During this time, TV5 was able to rake in a remarkable average of 9.0% AMR and 34.1% in audience share.

The basketball fever was also clearly felt across all islands in the country, as translated by TV5’s dominance over the competition across key urban areas, including Urban Visayas and most especially in Urban Mindanao. The extended regulation of the Game 7 finals registered big numbers for the Kapatid Network with an average of 9.8% AMR and 37% in audience shares in Urban Visayas (compared to ABS-CBN’s 9.2% AMR, 34.6% shares; and GMA’s 3.0% AMR and 11.5% audience shares) and 9.8% AMR and 50% audience shares in Urban Mindanao (where ABS-CBN posted 6.4% AMR and 32.6% audience shares while GMA registered only 2.0% AMR and 10.4% shares).

With this historic game culminating what is arguably one of the most memorable PBA conferences in recent memory, hardcore fans and followers of the sport can look forward to even more edge-of-your-seat basketball action during the highly-anticipated 2015 PBA Governor’s Cup, as currently telecast on TV5, AksyonTV, Radyo5 92.3 News FM and via livestreaming on www.Sports5.ph.

McJim "Dreams Get Real" Champs Neo Domingo, Fifth Dynamics and JBK Rock the OPM Scene

McJim "Dreams Get Real" Champs Neo Domingo, Fifth Dynamics and JBK Rock the OPM Scene

Barely a year after they were declared the champions of the first McJim Classic Leather “Dreams Get Real: The Search for the Next OPM Star,” three emerging recording artists have stamped a mark in the local music industry already.

With chart-topping and viral hits; malls, bars and corporate gigs across the country; and radio and television guest appearances, last year’s triple-tie winners - Fifth Dynamics, JBK, and Neo Domingo - are already rocking the music scene after McJim took a chance on them and helped them with the direction of their careers.

Much sought-after boy band JBK, composed of Joshua Bulot, Bryan Del Rosario, and Kim Lawrenz Ordonio, is making everyone’s heart melt. The group’s R&B-infused ballad,“Anong Meron Ka,” gets major airtime on popular radio stations nationwide and in music channels.

The group readily acknowledges how McJim has been instrumental in chasing their dreams. “Because of the McJim Dreams Get Real talent search, doors of opportunities were opened, helping us land different shows,” says Bryan Del Rosario of JBK. “We also released our single with the help of McJim, which is a huge deal for us. Plus, seeing people recognize and support us is priceless.

On the other hand, Fifth Dynamics, led by former The Voice of the Philippines contestant Mark Cordovales and members John Peterson Leyva, Wence Escabas, Aldrin Condat, and Jhay Santos, has released two chart-topping singles titled “Anyare” and “Pogi Kame”.

Before, we just listen to our favorite bands in the radio, but now we hear our own songs being requested. That’s crazy!” said Cordovales.

Cordovales added that McJim supported them and other winners in a number of ways that resulted in a stable career for all three of them. McJim’s support includes series of shows across the country, music video sponsorships, bus advertisements, posters, and the over-all creative direction of the band.

The third winner, Neo Domingo, also topped national and local charts with his debut single “Pagbigyan Mo Na”. It was likewise named as the Most Wanted Song of 97.1 Barangay LS FM.

The rising pop balladeer is also expanding his horizons by reviving the late ’90s and early 2000s novelty genre. His follow-up novelty single “Kaching-Kaching,” featuring his fellow McJim dreamer Fifth Dynamics, is now heavily played on different stations and is currently one of the soundtracks of GMA’s hit sitcom, “Ismol Family”.

McJim Dreams Get Real has been a huge help in launching my career. Seeing my name and my singles on different top charts together with those of big names in the music industry is a dream come true,” Domingo avers.

My newest single is very different from my genre but I’m thankful that fans still like to listen to my music. I grew up in a generation where novelty songs are like a national anthem and I want this generation to experience that kind of music,” says Domingo.

The talents are likewise in the process of completing their debut albums produced by award-winning arranger and composer Jonathan Ong of SonicState Studio.

McJim “Dreams Get Real: The Search for the Next OPM Star” Season 2

There is no stopping what McJim has set out to do, which is to open more  doors of opportunity for aspiring artists and to give them a platform from which they can showcase their talents. As Chris Cahilig, Dreams Get Real project head, proudly declares, “We aim to make Dreams Get Real talent search even bigger, brighter, and better this year. We now offer a full album and music video grant; P100,000 in cash prize; artist marketing support; and a talent management contract to the sole winner!

Banking on the success of last year’s competition, McJim is renewing “Dreams Get Real: The Search for the Next OPM Star” for a second season.

The contest is open to all unsigned male and female solo artists, aged 15 to 35 years old, with Filipino lineage.

Send your video recording or a Youtube link of your performance/s (you may opt to submit a cover or an original song of any genre of your choice) together with the filled-out application form on or before May 15.

How is she as a Daughter, Mother, Wife and Lola?: Charo Santos-Concio Shares Life Behind the Limelight

How is she as a Daughter, Mother, Wife and Lola?: Charo Santos-Concio Shares Life Behind the Limelight

Working Mom Magazine Press Release

ABS-CBN Corporation President and CEO Charo Santos-Concio graces the cover of Working Mom’s special Mother’s Day issue and opens up about her excitement in her role as a mother figure to her two granddaughters.

Santos-Concio, an influential figure in the media industry and a working mom herself, admits that she always looks forward to spending time with her two granddaughters, Julia and Talia, who join her in the cover of Working Mom’s Mother’s Day issue.

She tells Working Mom that whenever she is with her two girls, she experiences the joys of being a mother and loves being a doting mother figure to them.

She also shares her parenting role as a co-discerner, saying that she pushes her sons to man up in making difficult choices in life.

Difficult choices come with pain. You have to man up to that pain. I always say, I will be here to support you, but I will not be the one to make that choice for you. It’s your journey, not mine,” she says.

On juggling work and family, Santos-Concio admits that whenever she has her share of tough times, she calls for help.

She also explains that she empowers the people around her to help when the going gets tough, to the point of making the people around her – her executive assistants and even the executive team of ABS-CBN - aware that she is going through challenging times.

It takes a lot of humility to put aside your ego, admit that you could be vulnerable, that you have the same dose of human frailty as everyone else. It is the only way to grow,” she tells Working Mom.

Meanwhile in StarStudio’s May issue, Santos-Concio looks back on her upbringing and gives credit to her mother for shaping her to become the woman that she is today.

She happily tells StarStudio that it was her obedience to her mother that led her to land major projects.

When she said ‘join this contest,’ I would obey because I wanted to see her happy,” she says.

It was through the Baron Travel Girl competition that Santos-Concio got the attention of esteemed filmmaker Lino Brocka who invited her to audition for the female lead role in Itim, the film that catapulted Charo to stardom.

Santos-Concio, who is also known for her elegance, tells StarStudio that she learned to dress well and carry herself properly from her mother.

My mother had a regal bearing, and yet she did all this housework. She taught us girls how to sit in a way that it doesn't crumple the pleats of the skirt. She’s quite strict when it came to etiquette, good manners, and how to conduct yourself in public. But she respected our own points of view,” she shares.

The Barden Bellas are Back to Pitch Slap the World in “Pitch Perfect 2”

The Barden Bellas are Back to Pitch Slap the World in “Pitch Perfect 2”

United International Pictures Press Release

The Barden Bellas are back to pitch slap the world in Universal Pictures' “Pitch Perfect 2,” the follow-up to 2012’s runaway global hit about a group of lovable misfits with only one thing in common: the irresistible way they sound when they’re seamlessly mixed together, mashed-up and arranged like never before.

It’s been three years since the Bellas brought their signature vocals, style and attitude to become the first all-female group to win a national title. But when they get banned after a scandal that threatens to derail their last year at Barden, the three-time defending champs worry that this time they’ve lost their harmony for good.

With just one chance left at redeeming their legacy, the Bellas must fight for their right to win the World Championships of A Cappella in Copenhagen. And as they struggle to balance the pressures of musical domination with senior angst, it will take the power of sisterhood to find their voice and see what it takes to be the world’s top pitches.

Reprising their roles as the girls who run the a cappella world are Anna Kendrick as Beca, Rebel Wilson as Fat Amy, Brittany Snow as Chloe, Anna Camp as Aubrey, Alexis Knapp as Stacie, Hana Mae Lee as Lilly, Ester Dean as Cynthia Rose, Kelley Jakle as Jessica and Shelley Regner as Ashley.
The brand-new Bellas who are welcomed to “Pitch Perfect 2” are Hailee Steinfeld as Emily, a legacy freshman who is eager to follow in the footsteps of her talented vocalist mother, Katherine (Katey Sagal), and Chrissie Fit as Flo, a transfer student who is constantly puzzled by the self-induced dramatics of her fellow underclassmen.

Rejoining the comedy as the unbelievably odd, scene-stealing commentators of the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella are John Michael Higgins as the super-sexist John and actress/director/producer Elizabeth Banks as fabulous, frequent divorcée Gail.

As the Bellas head off to the world championships in Denmark, they must face off against the toughest competition on the planet: German supergroup Das Sound Machine, led by the cut-Beca-to-the-quick Kommissar (Birgitte Hjort Sorensen of Autómata) and her sidekick, Pieter Krämer (YouTube superstar Flula Borg).

Making their motion-picture debuts are six superfans, some of whom also happen to be members of the Green Bay Packers—Clay Matthews, David Bakhtiari, Jordan Rodgers, Don Barclay, T.J. Lang and Josh Sitton. Die-hard aficionados of “Pitch Perfect,” they were cast after impressing the filmmakers with their enviable knowledge of every song, line and dance move of the 2012 comedy.
Helmed by Banks, and produced by “Pitch Perfect’s” Paul Brooks, Max Handelman and Banks, “Pitch Perfect 2” finds Kay Cannon (TV’s New Girl, 30 Rock) back with the team to pen the next chapter and co-produce.

Opening across the Philippines on May 13, 2015, “Pitch Perfect 2” is distributed by United International Pictures through Columbia Pictures.

Kimmel during the episode of talk show "Jimmy Kimmel Live" following the "boxing fight of the century" revealed that he asked the boxing champ if he could walk with him in his entourage as part of his camp.

Pacquiao was in our show a couple of weeks ago and I asked him if I can walk with him in his entourage as part of his camp. If I can be his Justin Bieber. Manny Pacquiao doesn’t have a sexy teen idol in his camp so I offered myself. And much to my surprise, he accepted.”  he said.

Cebu Pacific Air recently flew its 100 millionth passenger, Yelen Bontuyan, from Cebu to Manila, marking a major milestone in its 18-year airline history. As CEB’s 100 millionth guest, Yelen received PHP100,000 as well as 100 tickets to any domestic or international destination, during a special inflight announcement that took the place of the airline’s trademark Fun Games. The airline celebrated the milestone with the rest of the passengers on her flight, with each being given free round trip tickets to the domestic destination of their choice.

A warm reception greeted Yelen upon arriving in Manila. Cebu Pacific employees, some of whom have been with the airline since its inception, welcomed Yelen, the passenger who will now be forever part of the airline’s history. Manila-based Yelen shared, “I’ve been going back and forth to Cebu, where many of my relatives are based, since I was very young. For the past 16 years, I fly Cebu Pacific because their airfare is much more affordable than other airlines. With my ticket prize, I really want to visit more places in the Philippines, and visit my relatives more often. Being the 100 millionth passenger is my most memorable travel experience. This is really a blessing for me. It’s a great way to start the year,” she added.

100M Trips, 100M Stories, 100M Juans

Late last year, as Cebu Pacific got ready to reach its 100 millionth milestone, Cebu Pacific provided tickets to 13 Facebook friends, who nominated their loved ones they believed deserving of free flights. Their stories, ranging from a close sibling bond to a mother’s dream destination, were also featured on the Cebu Pacific Air Facebook page www.facebook.com/CebuPacificAir.

The airline also continues to share the different stories of the people one meets while traveling, via the Juan of a Kind Stories Facebook page www.facebook.com/JuanOfAKindStories. From the heartwarming to the humorous, each anecdote captures the similarities and differences of our cultures.

CEB VP for Marketing and Distribution Candice Iyog related, “We started operations in 1996, at a time when air travel was expensive. It will always be a privilege for us to link islands and countries together, contribute to nation-building, and play a role in our passengers’ life stories." Cebu Pacific has grown into the Philippines’ largest airline with approximately 90 domestic and international routes, taking more people to farther shores and providing affordable air travel. It now operates the most extensive network within the Philippines, as well as between the Philippines to 28 international destinations, including Australia (Sydney), Brunei, Japan (Nagoya, Tokyo, Osaka), Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (Dammam, Riyadh), and the United Arab Emirates (Dubai).

Angel Locsin's Racial Slur Againts Floyd Mayweather Earns Attack from Netizens

Angel Locsin's Racial Slur Againts Floyd Mayweather Earns Attack from Netizens

I get it. Every single one of us Filipinos are not happy with how Floyd Mayweather use his usual tricks on Manny Pacquiao during their recent "The Battle of Greatness" boxing fight. The strategy that experts fear to be the next trend in the boxing ring - run, hug, punch, win! Moreso when the result was announced declaring the American boxer as the unanimous winner.

Just like some well known personalities, actress Angel Locsin airs her sentiments on social media. But unlike others, hers, as some observers say, is a bit harsh, calling her racist.

On twitter, Angel @143redangel wrote "Lugi naman kasi tayo eh.. hindi natin makita kung may black eye na si mayweather.. #MannyvsMayweather" which some branded as racist.

In response, Angel posted a logical question in reference to other skin color to prove she mean no harm but only expressing her thought of the fight. "Kung fair ang skin at sinabihan ko ng "lugi tayo at hindi makita ang an-an nya sa sobrang puti", racist comment rin? Baka kayo ang may issue"

In the end, Angel said she's sorry and will just move on while congratulating both Pacman and Mayweather. "Sorry sa harsh tweets✌️mahirap, pero I'll try to move on na!😂 proud of you Manny! Congratulations to Mayweather! He's a good strategist👍"

Reese Witherspoon Returns to Comedy via "Hot Pursuit," Showing on May 7

Reese Witherspoon Returns to Comedy via "Hot Pursuit," Showing on May 7

She has created the kind of unforgettable characters that connect with critics and audiences alike, making her one of Hollywood's most sought after actresses. Now, Academy Award-winner Reese Witherspoon returns to her first comedy film in years with New Line Cinema's female buddy comedy "Hot Pursuit."

In the film, an uptight and by-the-book Officer Cooper (Witherspoon) tries to protect the sexy and outgoing widow, Daniella Riva (Sofia Vergara) of a drug boss as they race through Texas, pursued by crooked cops and murderous gunmen.

Before they even get the key in the ignition of their commandeered-cum-stolen Cadillac convertible, before they run their first red light, Officer Cooper and Daniella Riva are completely at odds with one another. Despite Cooper's best intentions to carry out orders, the ranting and raving Mrs. Riva wants no assistance from the policewoman whom she deems too "teeny-tiny" to serve and protect her—at least from the kind of criminals that she and her husband are set to snitch on. Her lack of cooperation throws Cooper for a loop and forces her to assert herself even more than is already natural to her.

"Cooper tries really, really hard, but she keeps making a mess of her life, so when she meets Mrs. Riva, who is confident and composed and commanding, Cooper is a little intimidated," Witherspoon reveals. "But she's kind of like a Yorkie—small but able to access her aggressive side whenever she feels threatened. I think that's her spirit animal, the Yorkie."

Director Anne Fletcher ("The Proposal"), smiling, loves that the actress finds fun and unique ways to "delve into a role that make her character so genuine you can't help but find the humor in it, because she's found the humor in it. You fall for Reese's characters because she's made them quirky or interesting or whatever she's decided to do with the role. You love them for their authenticity and sincerity."

As the film opens, we are introduced to Cooper as a very young girl being raised by a policeman father whom she idolizes as a role model, both personally and professionally. While most kids were playing telephone, Cooper was listening to a scanner. Now a cop herself, she knows her Texas law enforcement handbook like a good preacher knows his Bible: chapter and verse.

When we first see her all grown up, Cooper is out of uniform, though by her behavior she appears to be undercover, chasing a perp through the streets of San Antonio. Not so, Witherspoon explains. "She's looking for love, but clearly doesn't know how to behave on a date! She's awkward and aggressive when she doesn't mean to be. Then you learn she doesn't get along with the other police officers in her unit, either. Due to a prior incident in which she accidentally lit a teenager on fire, they've stuck her in the evidence room. And despite all the ribbing she gets, she even takes that job a little too seriously."

Imagine, then, her determination to succeed when given a serious assignment. Intent on obeying the rules and following protocol, Cooper rigidly tries to steer her charge, Mrs. Riva, out the door and on the road to Dallas. But Daniella is used to doing things her own way and in her own time. That is, until everything goes completely awry and Cooper is her only chance at survival.

Set for release across the Philippines on May 7, "Hot Pursuit" is distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.
