Joel Kinnaman, from Robocop to a Target in “Run All Night”

Joel Kinnaman, from Robocop to a Target in “Run All Night”

Swedish actor Joel Kinnaman (“RoboCop,” “The Darkest Hour”) stars as the son of Liam Neeson's character in Warner Bros. Pictures gripping action-thriller “Run All Night.”

In the film, Brooklyn mobster and prolific hit man Jimmy Conlon (Neeson), once known as The Gravedigger, has seen better days. Lately, it seems Jimmy’s only solace can be found at the bottom of a whiskey glass.

But when Jimmy’s estranged son, Mike (Kinnaman), becomes a target, Jimmy must make a choice between the crime family he chose and the real family he abandoned long ago. With Mike on the run, Jimmy’s only penance for his past mistakes may be to keep his son from the same fate Jimmy is certain he’ll face himself…at the wrong end of a gun. Now, with nowhere safe to turn, Jimmy just has one night to figure out exactly where his loyalties lie and to see if he can finally make things right.

Kinnaman's character, Mike, wants nothing to do with his father or his father’s line of work, not since Jimmy abandoned them years ago. A quick run as a professional boxer didn’t pan out, so in addition to his construction job, he drives a limo to support his wife and two kids.

Kinnaman describes Mike as “another casualty of his father’s lifestyle. He walked out on Mike when he was five and Mike’s lived his life just trying to be everything his father wasn’t.” The only time Mike has seen Jimmy in the past five years has been at his mom’s funeral, and even then Jimmy showed up drunk. Before that, it was only when he needed a place to hide out. “Jimmy has not been a father figure in any way and so Mike takes his own role as a dad very seriously. That’s why he works so hard; he’s trying to make ends meet for his family and his family is everything. It’s what he lives for,” says Kinnaman.

The actor had been on director Jaume Collet-Serra’s radar for some time. “I’m a fan of Joel’s and was just delighted that he came on board. He’s powerful in so many ways - mentally, physically, emotionally - and he brought all that to this character. He and Liam connected immediately.”

Both Kinnaman and Neeson agree that working out the father and son relationship on screen afforded them the chance to become close off screen.

Kinnaman shares, “I’ve always looked up to him, so it was a very special opportunity. It was a great honor to get to play alongside Liam. He’s had so many memorable performances.”

It was wonderful working with Joel,” Neeson affirms. “We were very much a team, discovering our way through the emotional maze of this fractured father-son relationship. They are suddenly thrust into this situation where they have to trust each other, but Michael doesn’t know how to trust Jimmy.”

Opening across the Philippines on Thursday, March 12, “Run All Night” is distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

Liam Neeson Stars as Mob Hitman in “Run All Night,” Showing March 12 in PH Theaters

Liam Neeson Stars as Mob Hitman in “Run All Night,” Showing March 12 in PH Theaters

In Warner Bros. Pictures' new heartstopping thriller “Run All Night,” Liam Neeson stars as mob hitman Jimmy Conlon, who, over the course of just one night, must face off with his former mob boss in order to protect his son.

I loved how the story is full of action while it also examines the fractured relationships between two men who are like brothers, and a father trying to make amends with his son for things that happened years ago. It was complex and rich, with thrills and spills, and a lot of ‘what ifs,’” says Neeson. “What would have happened if Jimmy had taken this course instead of that course? But that’s the story of all our lives, isn’t it?

Neeson once again teams up with director Jaume Collet-Serra (“Unknown,” “Non-Stop”), whom he describes as “like a brother,” and who the actor says, “sees action movies as symphonies.”

Collet-Serra reveals he immediately envisioned Neeson in the role of Jimmy. “It was a no-brainer. Not only does Liam have great range, but he has sons, and I knew he’d connect to the story on a whole other level.”

Neeson admits that the script hit a deeper chord with him, having sons who are at the age of discerning their own paths in life. “I can’t imagine losing their love or trust and I can relate to being willing to do anything - no matter what it takes - to get that back.”

Blood may be thicker than water but mafia ties outlast everything. Jimmy knows where the bodies are buried, because he put them there. But his secrets have cost him.

Neeson says of his character, “Jimmy’s part of a group that has a very unique set of morals and a code of ethics that they rigidly stand by. Loyalty is everything. And that’s his great conflict - and also what gets him into trouble. When push comes to shove, who does he choose?

Collet-Serra points out, “Liam has obviously played a father before, but I think the difference with this character is that it’s not just about protecting or saving, it’s about earning back the title. For anybody who’s a father I would imagine losing that can be heartbreaking and you would do anything to reverse the situation.”

Jimmy’s a remnant of a period that’s long gone, struggling to survive in a modern world that has no room for him anymore,” Neeson describes. “He gave everything up for his job and all he has left are his regrets. The closest thing he has to family now is his boss, Shawn. That’s who he goes to when he needs help, like money to pay the heating bill. That’s who has his back.”

Jimmy carries a heavy burden, this loyalty to a crime family that is more like his family than his own, by his own choice. It’s a very honorable thing to try to keep that darkness away from his son. So he’s really caught in a bind,” says Collet-Serra. “Day one, first take, Liam brought all that to the character. That’s been my experience with him, on all the movies we’ve worked on. He’s a damn good actor and it’s always a pleasure.”

Trained to kill as a covert operations solider in the military, Jimmy came back home and when things didn’t work out, he fell back on what he knew how to do well.

Neeson offers, “Seeing what he’s seen and doing what he’s done, he could do what other people couldn’t do, so he took care of their dirty work. It’s been a few years now and he may be down, but he’s not out. He’s been involved in life-and-death issues, not just in Vietnam but in the concrete jungle of New York, so at the end of the day, he knows what to do to stay alive. He’s a survivor.”

In “Run All Night,” Brooklyn mobster and prolific hit man Jimmy Conlon (Neeson), once known as The Gravedigger, has seen better days. Lately, it seems Jimmy’s only solace can be found at the bottom of a whiskey glass.

But when Jimmy’s estranged son, Mike (Joel Kinnaman), becomes a target, Jimmy must make a choice between the crime family he chose and the real family he abandoned long ago.

Rachelle Ann Go Lends Voice for Disney's "Cinderella" The Movie

Rachelle Ann Go Lends Voice for Disney's "Cinderella" The Movie

After Kim Chiu and Sarah Geronimo's stint as Disney Princesses for Walt Disney Southeast Asia 2015 Calendar, Rachelle Ann Go, who is currently based in London for the ongoing West End run of "Miss Saigon," recently take part in another Disney project.

On Instagram, Rachelle shared a photo of her wearing a blue dress inside what appears to be a recording studio. Its caption: "Yehey! I'm so excited! I'm working on a very special something for everyone. Please watch out for this #MyCinderellaMoment #ShinDerella"

And on Friday, March 6, Walt Disney Studios Southeast Asia released the music video of the beloved Disney song “A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes” in conjunction with the launch of the new live-action film, “Cinderella.” Check out below:

In the 1950 animated film, Cinderella sang “A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes” as she encouraged her animal friends to never stop dreaming. This theme of “never stop dreaming” continues throughout the entire classic fairy-tale. The ballad was written and composed by Mack David, Al Hoffman and Jerry Livingston.

Disney is reviving the song with a new arrangement and music video to deliver the inspirational and positive message of the new “Cinderella” movie, which is to believe in your dreams, be positive and most importantly “Have Courage and Be Kind.”

We were looking for someone special, not just to sing the song beautifully but to also deliver the message reliably and inspire audiences. We chose Rachelle Ann Go as she embodies the positivity and inspirations of Cinderella, and is a living idol for young Filipinos everywhere who never stopped following her dreams,” said Amit Malhotra, General Manager of Walt Disney Studios, Southeast Asia.

In the video, Disney also produced a touching segment – a memorable moment where Rachelle was surprised by a visit from her mother who flew all the way from Manila to surprise her during the studio recording. Fans can look forward to a heart-warming video as well as various interactive segments with Rachelle regarding this very special project.

The music video of “A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes” premieres on Disney Channel and Disney Channel Asia YouTube Channel on Saturday, 7 March, 2015.

Disney’s decision to cast Rachelle Ann Go in the music video – “A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes” is in line with the company’s approach to dream, create and celebrate the most magical stories and adventures, each woven around a relatable, empowered local idol who delights everyone and especially inspires girls to realize their full potential.

As a child, Rachelle always dreamt of becoming a singer and recording star, frequently joining national talent competitions from an early age. Her breakthrough came when she was declared the grand winner of the highly-coveted “Search for a Star” singing contest in 2003 in Manila. What followed was a sensational realization of Rachelle’s dream – expressing herself through music, gaining fame and ardent fans, releasing top-selling albums, headlining sold-out concerts, and winning awards for her craft around the world.

Her dream of attaining international stardom also came true when she was cast last year for the West End revival of the musical “Miss Saigon” where she received Best Featured Actress and Best Supporting Actress accolades from London award-giving bodies.

Disney’s “Cinderella” opens in cinemas nationwide on Thursday, March 12 and will also be available in IMAX.

Disney’s “Cinderella” will also feature the much anticipated short “Frozen Fever” and popular princesses Elsa and Anna at the start of the movie.

Lily James' Goodness and Innocence Fit the Role of Walt Disney Pictures' "Cinderella", Showing on March 12

Lily James' Goodness and Innocence Fit the Role of Walt Disney Pictures' "Cinderella", Showing on March 12

Lily James, best known to audiences as the defiant Lady Rose on “Downton Abbey,” stars as the loving and kindhearted Ella, the young woman whose spirit can’t be broken, in Walt Disney Pictures' new live-action “Cinderella.”

The filmmakers needed to find the perfect actress to embody Ella, someone who radiated goodness and innocence, and who could make audiences see past her good looks and focus on the story beneath her exterior, instead.

Says director Kenneth Branagh, “It was extremely difficult to find someone who could be witty and smart, sharp but not cruel, has a twinkle in her eye and who has an inner beauty as well as a physical beauty, but Lily James’ Cinderella encapsulates all of those qualities. You have to root for Cinderella, you have to like her, you have to be on her side, and so an innate likeability was important.”

He continues, “Lily brought all that the first time she came in to read for the part. She’s a very beautiful girl, and her warmth also allows it to be a very approachable beauty, and somehow we feel that she could be our friend as dazzling as she is.”

Adds producer Allison Shearmur, “Lily James is Cinderella. She is kind. She’s interested in the quietest person in the room, she has great interest in all people from all walks of life. She’s got a great big heart. She’s a good person, and she’s spectacularly beautiful, but she’s not a cartoon.

Producer David Barron agrees, and says, “On the surface Lily has this wonderful wide-eyed innocence and a joy in just being alive and discovering the world around her, but she’s incredibly smart and has a directness and an emotional intelligence that allowed us to embrace this very multi-layered Cinderella.”

For Lily James, the opportunity to play one of the world’s most celebrated and best-loved characters was a dream come true. She explains, “I liked the fact that Ken wanted to keep it light and magical, much like a fairy tale. And in addition to the fact that Cinderella is so special and kind and unique, we also had a great opportunity to create a whole life beyond the fairy tale, making it richer and giving each character their own specific back-stories.”

She continues, “The heart of the story is Ella’s strength and how, even under the cruelest of circumstances, she manages to maintain goodness, purity and positivity.”

To prepare for the film, James tried to live healthily, implementing a daily yoga routine to get the kind of posture and grace and elegance that Ella would have had. She also took horseback riding lessons for six weeks, and did a great deal of research on spirituality, reading up on great leaders and pacifists like Gandhi.

I wanted to make Ella seem as real as possible, but didn’t want her to appear as if she had no faults because I was afraid the audience wouldn’t relate to her if she was too perfect,” James says.

A live-action feature inspired by the classic fairy tale, “Cinderella” brings to life the timeless images from Disney’s 1950 animated masterpiece as fully-realized characters in a visually-dazzling spectacle for a whole new generation.

The story of “Cinderella” follows the fortunes of young Ella (Lily James) whose merchant father remarries following the death of her mother. Eager to support her loving father, Ella welcomes her new stepmother (Cate Blanchett) and her daughters Anastasia (Holliday Grainger) and Drisella (Sophie McShera) into the family home. But, when Ella’s father unexpectedly passes away, she finds herself at the mercy of a jealous and cruel new family. Finally relegated to nothing more than a servant girl covered in ashes, and spitefully renamed Cinderella, Ella could easily begin to lose hope. Yet, despite the cruelty inflicted upon her, Ella is determined to honor her mother’s dying words and to “have courage and be kind.” She will not give in to despair nor despise those who mistreat her.

And then there is the dashing stranger she meets in the woods. Unaware that he is really a prince, not merely an apprentice at the Palace, Ella finally feels she has met a kindred soul. It appears her fortunes may be about to change when the Palace sends out an open invitation for all maidens to attend a ball, raising Ella’s hopes of once again encountering the charming Kit (Richard Madden). Alas, her stepmother forbids her to attend and callously rips apart her dress. But, as in all good fairy tales, help is at hand, and a kindly beggar woman (Helena Bonham Carter) steps forward and, armed with a pumpkin and a few mice, changes Cinderella’s life forever.

“Cinderella” will be released in the Philippines in IMAX and 2D cinemas on Thursday, March 12, through Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures International.

“The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water” Bigger, Better, Sillier

“The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water” Bigger, Better, Sillier

Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Movies Press Release

In Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Movies' new comedy adventure “The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water,” fans will see fully realized, three dimensional versions of their favorite characters for the first time.

"The show has always had an element of animation and live action; animated characters in Bikini Bottom and a few live action segments in our world," says executive producer and series-creator by Stephen Hillenburg. "But we've never done anything on this level."

"From the beginning, we knew we needed to do something big," says director Paul Tibbitt of the initial planning stages of “The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water." After years of working within the constraints of a television, the film allowed the creative team to explore new creative possibilities for the series' classic characters. "We're used to having these huge ideas for stories which we'd inevitably have to scale back in some way," explains Tibbitt. "But for the film, we realized we could bring the studio (Paramount) a crazy new idea, and they'd give us the latitude to make it happen. Nothing was off the table."

"Everything is a little bigger and better this time around," says Tom Kenny, the voice of SpongeBob. "But it isn't a reboot; it's not ‘SpongeBob Begins.’ We aren't going to tone down the silliness and get back to SpongeBob's gritty, butt-kicking roots. If anything, we've only gotten sillier."

"We've only briefly seen our characters out of the water in the show and first movie, but they were always in 2-D," says Tibbitt. "We wanted them to not only leave the water, but this time, actually have some weight and depth. Animation has come a long way since the first film in 2006, and it was exciting to use these new tools to make our characters come to life in our world in a believable way."
Bill Fagerbakke, the voice of Patrick, comments, "In the past, our characters have been stick figures outside of the water, but this time around, the visual presentation is completely new. Everything is different. It's like they're going to Oz."

Australian Visual Effects house Iloura (who had previously created Mark Wahlberg's stuffed bear companion in "Ted") was responsible for bringing the familiar characters to life in the film's "real world" sequences. "We've been blown away by some of the shots in this film," Tibbitt explains. "Iloura is so good at integrating all the elements and making these characters seem like they're all in the same world."

"It's a radically different visual experience than the fans have ever seen before," says executive producer Cale Boyter. "But there was a lot of care put into making the 3-D versions of characters stay true to their 2-D roots."

Life in Bikini Bottom couldn’t be better for eternal optimist SpongeBob (Tom Kenny) and his friends: loyal starfish Patrick (Bill Fagerbakke), the sardonic Squidward (Rodger Bumpass), scientist squirrel Sandy (Carolyn Lawrence) and crustacean capitalist, Mr. Krabs (Clancy Brown). When the top secret recipe for Krabby Patties is stolen, eternal adversaries SpongeBob and Plankton (Mr. Lawrence) must join forces on a trip through time and space to harness their internal superpowers and battle fiendish pirate Burger Beard (Antonio Banderas) with his own plans for the delicious delicacies.

Opening across the Philippines on Black Saturday, April 04, “SpongeBob: Sponge Out of Water” is distributed by United International Pictures through Columbia Pictures.
