Listed: The Best Valentine's Day Gifts To Give Your Loved Ones

It’s Valentine’s season again and although the whole metro will be swamped with couples displaying their affection for each other, the love month festivities are not exclusive to love birds alone.

Valentine’s Day is also another bonding time for most families who flock to restaurants or go on out-of-town trips. During this season that is all about expressing love, ABS-CBN Publishing, Inc. has seven books that can be the perfect gift to any member of the family.

1. FOR THE HARDWORKING DAD - “STUPID IS FOREVER”

With a collection of her most memorable punch lines, jokes and one-liners, “Stupid is Forever” is a fitting read whenever the padre de pamilya feels stressed. Senator Miriam’s best-selling book will surely make him laugh each time he flips the page when he arrives home from a tiring day at work.

2. FOR THE AWESOME MOMMY - “MAKE YOUR NANAY PROUD”

Moms sometimes feel that they are only given thanks during Mother’s Day. Boy Abunda’s “Make Your Nanay Proud” campaigns for a regular appreciation of the number one heroine in the family. With personal reflections and anecdotes from the country’s top leaders and well renowned personalities such as President Benigno Aquino III, Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago and many more, “Make Your Nanay Proud” might move the queen of the family to tears because she finally feels loved and honored this season of love.

3. FOR THE BROKENHEARTED SISTER - “DEAR ALEX, BREAK NA KAMI. PAANO?! LOVE, CATHERINE”

Actress turned author Alex Gonzaga reminds the single ladies to ditch the cry fest and embrace singlehood. If “Where Do Broken Hearts Go” is part of the playlist of the recently dumped sister, Alex’s breakthrough book titled, “Dear Alex, Break na kami. Paano?! Love Catherine,” is a timely Valentine’s gift. Alex doesn’t just offer a handful of advice on moving on, she also enforces the positive side of a breakup: change is necessary and should be embraced in order to become whole again.

4. FOR THE COOL BROTHER - “HELP!!! AYOKO NA SA SYOTA KO”

Ramon Bautista is the ultimate love guru who can knock some sense into the brother whose emotional quotient needs boosting. With a combination of practical and absurd tips, Ramon Bautista’s bestseller will help any bro navigate smoothly in that complicated thing called love.

5. FOR THE CREATIVE SIBLING --- “RITUALS”

Patrick Rosas, makeup artist to the country’s most beautiful, is brilliant. With a stroke of a makeup brush, he can transform his muse, including his dear friend Gretchen Barretto to various looks: from the avant garde down to fresh natural looks. If the family has a creative nut who has an appreciation for the arts, “Rituals” is the Valentine’s gift that will make one’s jaw land on the floor because of the lavish visual feast of photographs that will inspire creative siblings to harness their talent.

6. FOR THE KITCHEN SAVVY TITO - “CURIOSITY GOT THE CHEF: THE COOKBOOK”

To help the tito prepare yummy and Instagram worthy meals, Chef and cooking show host Sharwin Tee’s must-have cookbook, “Curiosity Got the Chef” will keep him inspired. With pages filled with mouthwatering recipes, it will definitely make any tito dart to the kitchen to whip up Chef Sharwin’s best recipes by himself.

(Photo) Cristine Reyes Newborn Baby Girl Amarah

As Showbiznest previously reported, Cristine Reyes gave birth to her first baby with boyfriend Ali Khatibi 2 months before her scheduled delivery date.

On her Instagram, Friday, Cristine introduced her baby girl named Amarah to the world. While she and Ali welcome their first born with pride and joy, they also also asked the support and prayers of their family, friends and supporters as Amarah remains in the hospital for proper care and medications.

To quote:
By @queencristinereyes "Meet Amarah๐Ÿ‘ผ February 8th, Sunday our Amarah finally came to see it. She really was such a wonderful blessing. ๐Ÿ’– I Fought for 2 weeks to hold her in. I've been put on total bed rest and wasn't able to sit, move and stand.  Was on Heavy medication on my birthday and spent the day knocked out. I was Monitored every two hours for  awhile.
I was In and out of the delivery room. But then, time has come that Amarah wanted to see the world, in which, none can control.

That feeling of love was instantaneously.❤️ However, she came a little too early than expected and now in need of critical care and assistance. It's hard to see her handled by different people in the NICU. I just hope and pray that she's well taken cared for. I realized that no one can't beat the loving and tender care of a mother. Just got a little apprehensive when I learned that there was a one person visitor policy. It breaks my heart at the time when Ali and I have to leave the hospital without her in our arms. It's sad but we have to be strong. We've been fighting for our little angel and now she has to fight this alone.
If it were in my hands, I'd love for my daughter to reach full term. I did everything to make sure that she was healthy - I read books, seek advice from my in-laws, family, friends and professionals to make sure all was well.
I just don't think it's fair when people judge me and saying that it was my fault.  I plan to disregard NEGATIVITY in my life. My only priority right now is our little fighter. I actually don't really need to explain myself.☺️ Our baby is getting stronger everyday and we will be with her throughout the
fight. She's our wonderful blessing. She will win this battle like a champ just like her father. My family and friends will be praying for our Amarah. ๐Ÿ˜‡ Her Dad and I loves her so much!๐Ÿ‘ผ #Family #Ali #Ariane #Amarah #Blessed"

Lea Salonga Slams Anne Curtis Performance on The Voice: "She's still not a singer!"

The Voice of the Philippines coach Lea Salonga shared her opinion on Anne Curtis's performance last Sunday, February 8, on The Voice of the Philippines.

Anne performed Icona Pop’s “I Love It and All Night” with coach Bamboo and the coach’s top six contestants before the announcement of winners last Sunday. The performance earned a standing ovation from the coaches and was wildly enjoyed by the live audience.

Later after the show, Lea was asked by her followers via Twitter about her reaction to Anne's performance which the coach enthusiastically replied "So much fun!!!" But when asked about Anne's singing in particular, Lea commented, "She's still not a singer," she stated. Nonetheless, the coach commended Anne's improvement on her intonation saying, "But her intonation is improving.”

The two famous celebrities were caught in a controversy way back in 2012 when the Broadway actress was misquoted as criticizing the It's Showtime host's singing.

Netizens also took to Twitter to express their reactions about Anne’s performance. Some netizens  were turned off by Anne’s appearance in the singing competition. One commenter (@kimiviajera) said: “#TheVoicePH really? anne curtis?! what happened w/ being a credible & reputable singing competition? this is not showtime or asap. PLEASE.”. While @arianeastorga posted: “Anne Curtis singing on The Voice PH... medyo di ko gets,

Charo Santos-Concio Named Outstanding Paulinian Alumna

ABS-CBN President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Charo Santos-Concio was recently conferred theFleur-de-lis Award, the highest form of honor given to outstanding graduates of St. Paul University Manila.

According to St. Paul University Manila President Sister Ma. Evangeline Anastacio, Santos-Concio was cited for her outstanding achievements in the field of television and unwavering loyalty to her alma mater.

"Charo is a true inspiration to the Paulinian community because of herexemplary achievement in her field and her commitment to uplift the human spirit through the creation of meaningful dramas and public service programs on television," said Anastacio about Santos-Concio, whograduated with a degree in communication arts cum laude from St. Paul University Manila in 1976.

Santos-Concio said her love for and fascination with media started even when she was a young girl.  And while studying at St. Paul, she worked part-time as a voice talent and a host of a noontime show at a radio station.

"My passion to get into the media industry never died.  I realized that I could actually serve my country through media," said Santos-Concio. Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson - Bold, Limitless, Provocative as Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele in “Fifty Shades of Grey”

Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson - Bold, Limitless, Provocative as Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele in “Fifty Shades of Grey”

United International Pictures Press Release
Two relatively unknown actors – Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson – portray the much-coveted roles of Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele in Focus Feature's film adaptation of the runaway bestseller, “Fifty Shades of Grey.” And both found overnight stardom in the process as the film is expected to be a global blockbuster.

“Fifty Shades of Grey” explores the burgeoning relationship between enigmatic 27-year-old billionaire Christian Grey and sexually uninitiated college senior Anastasia Steele. It is a love story, but a provocative one that also deals with limits, and particularly, sexual limitssetting them, respecting them, overstepping them - and all of the exploration that can take place therein.

Author E L James knew that two characters had to be just perfect. When asked what it was that drew her to Dornan as Christian Grey, she reflects: “You only have to see Jamie on screen to know the answer to that question. He has a real brooding intensity and presence. And he’s kind of easy on the eye, which helps.

Director Sam Taylor-Johnson was quite moved to see the actors’ connection and knew she’d found the perfect Christian to her Ana. (Johnson had originally been paired with Charlie Hunnam, but the actor departed the film prior to the start of principal photography). The director says: “Jamie Dornan is a fantastic, perfectly pitched Christian Grey. He brings a lot to this role - an elegance to the character, but he also brings exactly what Christian is, which is that slight one-step-removed mystery. That’s because Jamie has that innately in him already. He’s an extraordinary actor, and he plays Christian Grey exactly as he should be played.”

Dornan boils it down to the task before him: “As an actor, you are looking for parts that will be challenging and different. I’ve never played anyone like Christian before. He’s a very intriguing character with a lot of layers, a lot of depth, and that’s what you want: to portray him in a truthful way on screen.”

For her part, Dakota Johnson reveals that when she found out who was behind the production, she “thought that it sounded promising. I read the books to see if it was something that I could believe in, and if I could find some connection with the story. Then, about a year later, when the time came for the audition, I asked if I could go in for it. After my first audition, I read a few more times, and I was offered the part of Anastasia. There was a sense of wanting to find someone who could bring a bit of lightheartedness and humor to such dramatic material. I think that’s why it worked out for me.”

Johnson’s director explains why her leading lady was so right for the role: “I knew the moment we met Dakota that we found our Anastasia. She provided us the perfect balance of vulnerability, sass, beauty and courage. She has the wit and charm and intelligence of Ana and brings life into that character like I can’t imagine anyone else doing. She is a phenomenal actress and it felt like I was given a gift of being able to present her to the world.

As the pair entered preproduction, both Johnson and Dornan would have to ready themselves to portray the type of relationship required. Describing the bond that Christian customarily seeks, Dornan states: “The only type of relationship he has ever had is a dominant/submissive one, where he has a partner sign a contract so that he can treat her in the way they have both agreed to. There have always been clear-cut rules, negotiated and signed before any kind of physical relationship begins. Until he meets Anastasia.

Ana is both a typical and an atypical college senior: She’s a studious, clever English literature major who still parties, but is physically inexperienced because she’s not found the right partner. Johnson reflects on Ana’s developing singular tastes: “Her reaction, when Christian reveals the type of relationship he’s interested in pursuing, is something that’s surprising. Normally, you’d think that a girl who has never been exposed to any of that sort of relationship would run away, thinking that he’s the most messed-up person she’s ever met. But, Ana doesn’t. Instead, her reaction is to try and understand it.”

Christian rushes to assumptions about Ana when they meet, when Ana steps in for her ill roommate to interview him for her campus newspaper. She is less than prepared, for either the interview or the reactions she elicits from this enigmatic billionaire. Dornan explains: “Ana’s uncomfortable and awkward. He’s all about control and precision, but she turns all of that on its head. He’s attracted to her, but she affects him in a far more profound way and much deeper than he’s experienced before. Essentially, the story is about two people who have fallen in love and face massive hurdles that are stopping them from having a ‘regular’ relationship.”

Johnson reveals what millions of readers have discovered and devoured: “The danger of it, and I think this is exciting, is that the story has all of the components of a thriller; you don’t know what’s going to happen. Is she going to be okay with this difficult thing to grasp? Will she be able to reconcile herself to it for Christian? Will she be able to change that much and love him despite this? Will he be able to do the same for her?

Opening across the Philippines on February 11, “Fifty Shades of Grey” is distributed by United International Pictures through Columbia Pictures. The film has been classified Rated R-18 (Strictly for Adults) by the MTRCB. The film will be shown without jump cuts but several frames will contain blurs and blocks, covering delicate body parts.

DISCLAIMER AND NOTICE:

This movie was classified as is and in its entirety with noticeable BLURS and SCREEN BLOCKS introduced by the film producer prior to its submission for review.

The public is advised of some scenes of nudity, strong and/or sexual language, and sexual aberrational behavior with elements of bondage, dominance, sadism and masochism.

With the undeniable surging success of TV5's trailblazing public service campaign called "Taxi Squad," Radyo5 treated its top volunteer Taxi driver-members whose contributions have strengthened the network’s equity on citizen journalism “on-wheels” to a Thanksgiving Salo Salo.

In an exclusive event that brought together the top performing “Taxi Squad” members of 2014, Radyo5 held its first-ever “Taxi Squad Thanksgiving Salo Salo” in its modern news and radio headquarters in Reliance, Mandaluyong City. “Taxi Squad” members who were honored as the top 30 contributors of constant and relevant news reports were not only given a rare inside look of the TV5 newsroom but were also given the opportunity to meet and greet some of their favorite Radyo5 anchors. These included no less than News5 Head Luchi Cruz-Valdes – together with her co-anchor of the widely-followed program, “Relasyon”, Attorney Mel Sta. Maria – as well as veteran broadcaster and “Akyon Solusyon” anchor Alex Tinsay and long-time host of the well-loved showbiz program “Cristy Ferminute”, Cristy Fermin.

On top of these, the “Taxi Squad” members were finally given their wish of being up close and personal with the Radyo5 anchors whom they admire for giving fearless view and opinions, the Tulfos.  Radyo5 made the event by giving them the chance to sit in as live audience in the Tulfo brothers’ multi-awarded public service program on TV5 called “T3: Enforced”. This was then followed by a live guesting with interview on Radyo5’s top-rating afternoon program “Wanted sa Radyo”, hosted by their Idol Raffy Tulfo, and Nina Taduran.

The celebratory mood during the “Taxi Squad Thanksgiving Salo Salo” did not stop there as the lucky “Taxi Squad” members were also treated to sumptuous meals, various photo opportunities, exciting raffle draws where some members were able to take home big prizes, and the ceremonial signing of the “Taxi Squad” wall to commemorate this special event.

In an interview during a signing of contract for the movie adaptation of her bestselling book "Dear Alex, Break na kami. Paano?! Love, Catherine" with Star Cinema, Alex admitted that she developed a fear for falling in love after a series of failed relationships.
