TV5 Reaches Closely to Televiewers by Moving 'Amazing Race' and 'Wattpad Presents' to New Timeslots

Due to insistent public demand, TV5 moves flagship programs The Amazing Race Philippines 2 (TARP) and Wattpad Presents to new primetime slots starting next week (Monday, October 20) at 9:00pm and 9:30pm respectively.

We’ve been receiving valuable feedback from viewers saying that they are not able to watch the shows because they arrive home late. They usually get stuck in traffic and their daily commute home eats up their time. These viewers want to see these programs, but the shows are usually done with the night’s airing by the time they get home. This is the reason why we decided to move TARP to 9PM and Wattpad to 9:30PM, so we can reach these viewers,” said TV5 Chief Entertainment Content Officer Wilma V. Galvante.
As of press time, viewers await for the nerve-wrecking conclusion of the second leg of The Amazing Race Philippines 2. The leg proved to be very challenging and was able to present the racers in a different light, showing how their teamwork and strategies fall apart as they face daunting tasks. Team Sexy Besties RR Enriquez and Jeck Maierhofer were penalized for 4 hours after quitting from the challenge that required them to climb a wall to reach for a bottle of Summit Natural Drinking Water, while team Pinay World Champs Luz McClitton and Gretchen Albaniel became combative against each other after placing last on a series of challenges.  This week also saw how team alliances crumbled as racers faced their first U-Turn mark, requiring them to vote for another team who will go back to the previous location to do another task. Team Mr. Pogi JP Duray and Kelvin Engles were the first team to be U-Turned. Winners of this leg will receive P200,000 cash prize courtesy of Shell V Power Nitro Plus.

Meanwhile, TV5’s romantic-comedy TV adaptations of popular Wattpad online novels continue to deliver feel-good and heartwarming stories as Wattpad Presents launches another batch of stories highly requested stories. This Monday, the much-awaited TV adaptation of the popular Wattpad love story “Dyepni” will come to life, featuring real-life sweethearts Alwyn Uytingco and Jennica Garcia. The couple recently announced that they had a secret wedding last February 12 at Victory Church Greenhills and “Dyepni” will be their first-ever TV project together as a couple. Originally written by pajama_addict and with almost 2 million reads on Wattpad, “Dyepni” depicts the bumpy but kilig love story between Nialla (Jennica Garcia) and Jeffrey (Alwyn Uytingco) which starts and ends in a “jeepney” ride. Will the supposedly typical jeepney ride of Nialla and Jeffrey drive them to their “love destination” together or are they just bound to get off and go their separate ways?

Don’t miss the back-to-back tandem of reality, action, love and adventure on its new timeslot starting next week. The Amazing Race Philippines season 2 airs daily at 9:00PM followed by Wattpad Presents: Dyepni, weeknights at 9:30PM, only on TV5.

'Ilustrado,' The First Bayani-Serye on Primetime TV Airs this October on GMA-7

Ilustrado, GMA Network PR

Some people only know the stories of others tell them, but for the first time in Philippine television history, GMA News and Public Affairs brings one of the nation's heroes to a new light - one that portrays him as human, someone people could understand, and most of all, love once again.

Ilustrado takes a step back and shows the man that embodied the positive qualities that Filipinos aim to be. The series showcases Jose Rizal's journey from his childhood, his colourful travels in Europe, his adventures in love, and most of all - the sacrifices he made for the love of his country.

What makes this series interesting is the incorporation of a variety of fictional characters that assist in highlighting and bring more life into the original storyline, making it more beautiful than it already is; for what is the hero without a villain? Though they are fictional, they are just as real as humans can be: capable of hurting other people, but at the same time showing that even people born into bad circumstances are worthy of redemption. That it is in the human spirit to learn and change for the good.

Top billing this momentous series is one of the most promising actors today, Alden Richards as Jose Rizal, Kylie Padilla as Leonor Rivera, together with Solenn Heussaff and Max Collins as her European lovers Nellie Bousted and Consuelo Ortiga. What gives the production an even higher quality is the presence of top–calibre actors including this year's Cinemalaya's best actress Eula Valdes playing the role of Rizal's mother Teodora Alonzo, three-time Urian best actress Jaclyn Jose as Conchita Monteverde, Ricardo Cepeda as Francisco Mercado, Freddie Webb as Don Jose Alberto, Polo Ravales as Venchito Monteverde, Mailes Kanapi as Donya Teodora Formoso, among others.

Behind this production is the same team who made the award-winning series Katipunan, and is filmed using the sophisticated Arri Alexa camera, along with equally high-end lenses provided by CMB Film Services Inc. To achieve the grandeur of the 19th-century Europe that Jose Rizal knew and had adventures in, modern visual effects will be used to show the never forgotten decadence of the places where he completed his two most famous novels--the Noli Me Tangere, and El Filibusterismo.

Ilustrado, ang kauna-unahang bayani serye sa Philippine primetime is set to make history this October 2014 on GMA Telebabad.

ABS-CBN Christmas Station ID 2014 Video: Lyca Gairanod, Darren Espanto, Juan Karlos Labajo, and Darlene Vibares

The Kapamilya network on Thursday released a video of the recording session of this year's  Christmas Station ID anthem titled "Thank You Ang Babait Ninyo".

ABS-CBN’s Christmas Station IDs have been part of the Kapamilya Christmas tradition. This year, the Kapamilya network is once again paying homage to the goodness of Filipinos with Thank You Ang Babait Ninyo performed by The Voice Kids Top 4 Lyca Gairanod, Darren Espanto, Juan Karlos Labajo, and Darlene Vibares.

The song, written by Star ng Pasko’s Robert Labayen along with Love Rose de Leon and Lloyd Corpuz, is a meaningful take on the usual Filipino Christmas carol. It centers on gratitude that are innate in every Filipino. Listening to it, along with the organic melody arranged by SID veterans, Amber and Marcus Davis, gives an overwhelming feeling of appreciation to the people who have touched our lives and the blessings that we have received.

"Thank You Ang Babait Ninyo" will mark ABS-CBN's 12th Christmas station ID following a string of hits that paid tribute to the Filipino sense of community and spirit amid disasters.

The station ID featuring stars of the network will premiere in November.

World-Class Kapamilya and Pinoy Hollywood Stars Perform at "ASAP Live in LA" TFC’s 20th Year Celebration

The Filipino Channel PR
When asked to describe in one word what ASAP Live in LA would be at the packed press conference that was livestreamed on and last October 8 from the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena, the following cast members said:

Gerald Anderson: “Awesome!”
Maja Salvador: “Spectacular!”
Yeng Constantino: “Astig!” (Super cool!)
Bamboo: “Class Act.”
Zsa Zsa Padilla: “Powerful.”
Martin Nievera: “Unforgettable.”
Enchong Dee: “Memorable.”
Kathryn Bernardo: “Fun!”
Daniel Padilla: “Intense!”

Gary Valenciano: “I wanted to add on to what everyone said and it has to do with why ASAP is where it is today.  You have a bunch of artists here and there are many more artists out there.  But there is a reason why we are chosen to be part of this show. I think that God has a great plan for why we are a part of this show. So, the word I’m going to choose is ‘blessed’.

Indeed, the words of TFC’s 20th Anniversary Ambassador Valenciano and his nine press con co-panelists were veritable harbingers of what ASAP Live in LA last October 11 turned out to be.

Not the power-packed joint concert of superstars Enrique Iglesias and Pitbull in Staples Center, or the multi-cultural, multi-act Super Sonico Festival brought by the teams of LAMC and Coachella to Shrine Auditorium, or the touring and local culinary stars of James Beard Foundation’s Taste Los Angeles in Vibiana could distract 12,000 Filipino fans from trooping to historic Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena to take part in the day-long festivities climaxed by a one-of-a-kind three-hour, live, world-class Filipino entertainment.

Filipino and Fil-Am Performers Join Hands

When ABS-CBN and TFC North America promised 40 stars would perform at ASAP Live in LA, they actually meant at least 40.

Believing in always putting great value for the money that TFC subscribers and fans pay, ticket buyers did not only get a star-studded complement of talented cast members from the Philippines; they were treated to spectacular on-stage collaborations with U.S.-based Filipino singing greats like Jam Morales, Ella Mae Saison and Tootsie Guevarra, and international Fil-Am superstars like of Black Eyed Peas and Jessica Sanchez of American Idol fame.  Also acknowledged at the show were well-known Fil-Ams from the Hollywood industry like Tia Carrere, Reggie Lee, Mark Nicolas and Fritz Friedman.

Carrere told Balitang America: “ASAP was amazing. What a monster concert! I mean, Apl being here, Charice, Jessica Sanchez, and all these stars from the Philippines, I’m so happy to be able to be introduced to them. It’s three hours of non-stop energy here. I can’t wait to see it on TV.”

More Than Just Entertainment

While ASAP director Johnny Manahan, ASAP Business Unit Head Joyce Liquicia and their Manila team in collaboration with TFC North America production team led by John-D Lazatin made sure that everything from the production numbers to the costumes to the technical set-up lived up to high standards, everyone in the cast and crew knew that they were here to deliver more than just entertainment.

You are talking about people flying in from as far as Alaska, Hawaii and Canada and fans representing by creating their own ASAP Live in LA attires. You have people who saved their dollars and planned their work vacations so they can watch the show. We all know that what we should give are more than song-and-dance numbers; we are here to give our hearts, our love, our Kapamilya spirit and Pinoy soul to them. We want them to feel they’ve come home,” said TFC North America ASAP Live in LA Project Lead Ricky Resurreccion, also the region’s head of Ad Sales, Trade Marketing & Events.

So, the stars braved a thunderstorm, flood, traffic and no sleep to catch their flights from Manila to Los Angeles, mingled with fans as they visited Los Angeles landmarks to tape segments, took part in a Meet and Chat with lucky ticket holders, rehearsed to perfection and tirelessly shared their experiences and activities on social media for their millions of followers around the world.

Promoting Filipino presence, the City and County of Los Angeles tourism and voter mobilization for the coming November elections also did not go unnoticed by the Office of the Mayor.  Through the assistance of Los Angeles Philippine Consul General Leo Herrera Lim, Filipino American Service Group, Inc. Executive Director Susan Dilkes and West Valley Area Representative Max Reyes, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti issued a Proclamation making October 11, 2014 ABS-CBN The Filipino Channel’s “ASAP Live in LA” Community Empowerment Day.  ABS-CBN Integrated News and Current Affairs Head Ging Reyes presented the Proclamation to the crowd before the show show while Valenciano and Nievera led a group that presented it anew to the audience.

Meanwhile. ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation Chairman Gina Lopez made a sterling presentation of her Philippine ecotourism program before the concert to remind the audience to reconnect to the homeland in a sustainable, progressive way.

Celebrating TFC’s 20th Anniversary

For North America where TFC started, ASAP Live in LA was the perfect bookend for the TFC 20 Gala that kicked off its 20th anniversary celebration.

TFC’s first ever ambassador Martin Nievera, who performed with current ambassador Gary Valenciano at the gala back in March said about TFC: “When I was distributing TFC flyers, it was just a concept, just an idea, a big satellite dish. Twenty years later it’s like the best thing they’ve invented since the balikbayan box.”

ABS-CBN President Charo Santos Concio saw the early days differently. “I knew in my heart it was just a matter of time, yes, because the Filipinos love artists, love entertainment, and you know we’re one of the happiest people on earth,” she said.

Robert Downey Jr. Defends Estranged Father Robert Duvall from Murder in 'The Judge'

 Warner Bros. Pictures PR

High-priced, workaholic lawyer Hank Palmer is unquestionably the man every high-class criminal wants by his side in the courtroom. Checking his scruples at the door, he is a master manipulator of the law, and his services are available to the highest bidder; the innocent, he coolly professes, can’t afford him.

Robert Downey Jr. plays Hank Palmer in Warner Bros. Pictures' moving drama “The Judge.” Directed by David Dobkin (“Wedding Crashers”), the film revolves around a big-city lawyer who returns to his childhood home where his estranged father, the town’s judge, is suspected of murder. He sets out to discover the truth and along the way reconnects with the family he walked away from years before.

Dobkin remembers asking Downey early on, “‘Does your character know he’s in crisis, or does he just feel he’s in crisis?’ His answer was, ‘He knows it, but he doesn’t feel it.’ Hank is aware, on an intellectual level, that he’s unable to have an emotional truth. He’s stuck at a dead end in his life even though he’s at the top of what he set out to achieve.”

Hank is comfortable where he’s comfortable: at home in Chicago with his marriage that’s falling apart and this billion-dollar case that he knows how to cheat and win,” Downey says. “All of the things that make him comfortable are the things that make most people uncomfortable.

Hank rarely lets his guard down, carefully navigating the prickly relationships he has surrounded himself with, keeping those close to him at arm’s length and allowing in only a few - his mother and his daughter. He has created a strong protective wall around his emotional self, choosing instead to deflect even the slightest opportunity for self-reflection with sarcastic humor and intellectual superiority. Maintaining distance from the source of his earliest wounds keeps any cracks in the wall from spreading…until he is forced to go home again by the loss of his first and greatest source of comfort, his mom.

One of the nice things about playing Hank is that I get to explore that part of me - of everybody - that just wants to jump out of their seat and run,” Downey shares. “The minute he gets back to his hometown, he’s just looking for a trapdoor to fall through and wind up anywhere else but where he is.

He’s a pretty shut-down guy,” the actor continues. “He is in his life mentally and physically, but not emotionally; he’s in complete flight from the ramifications of the way he’s behaved emotionally. He is also very accustomed to winning, and a lot of his identity is tied up in that, in his profession, but that doesn’t matter to anyone else. And of course the fact that his father is a judge and Hank’s a big time defense attorney says a lot about him.

Dobkin admired Downey’s freedom in the role. “It’s a very complex tightrope to walk, to start a movie with a character as broken as Hank is, and to be honest about it,” he says. “Robert is completely unafraid of any kind of scene, or to be disliked the way Hank is early on, because he can play him with enough charm for people to stay with him, to go through the journey he’s on. He’s a beautiful meeting of both comedy and drama, and he has incredible control over the tone of his work. He showed up every day hungry and curious and wanting to make something great.

This was an opportunity for me to return to the classic acting of my roots, to see if I could still hit that place of deep emotional resonance like you do in the theater,” Downey says. “Hank is under tremendous pressure, and he just keeps being handed more and more weight and becomes less and less confident, which is not a place he’s used to being, not a feeling he likes at all. When he is certain he’s right, no one will listen; when he’s not so sure, everyone is looking to him for answers. Every day he has to jump through some sort of flaming hoop. I’d never really played a part that had so much to do with salvation and redemption, and that was one of the greatest challenges and joys of playing Hank.

Opening across the Philippines on October 22, 2014, “The Judge” is distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.
