A new batch of celebrity players will be taking on the various challenges of ‘Master Silencer’ Richard Gomez in the next episode of TV5’s much talked-about game show, the one-of-a-kind “Quiet Please! Bawal ang Maingay”, airing this Sunday, September 7 at 8:00PM.

This time around, ‘Beauty’ goes head-to-head against ‘Wit’ as some of the country’s fiercest beauty queens – Ariella Arida (Ms. Universe 2013 3rdRunner-Up), Mutya Datul (Miss Supranational 2013) and Bianca Manalo(Ms. Universe- Philippines 2009) – try to outlast some of the country’s loudest and most popular comedians – John “Sweet” Lapus, Tuesday Vargas and Bayani Agbayani.

Can “Team Beauty” still display their poise and maintain their grace under pressure as they go through round-after-round of timed challenges? Will the known restless behavior and loud personalities of each member of “Team Witty” backfire on them as they attempt to accomplish the craziest tasks without setting off the giant ‘noise-meter’? 'Trenderas' Isabelle de Leon, Katrina ‘Suklay Diva’ Velarde and Lara Maigue Serenade Fans at Pasig Public Market

 TV5 Press Statement

The 3 up-and-coming stars of TV5's newest musical-comedy-drama program, "Trenderas", recently headlined the Kapatid Network's Palengke Tour in Pasig City.

After capturing the audience’s attention with their exceptional vocal prowess in various prestigious events such as the 2014 Ad Summit and the annual PBA Leo Awards, among many others, the three young and up-and-coming stars of TV5’s newest musical-drama-comedy series, “Trenderas”, surely made quite the impact when they headlined TV5's palengke tour in Pasig Public Market on Sunday.

Amidst the hustle and bustle on a typical early Saturday morning in the perennially busy Pasig Public Market, buyers, vendors and passers-by could not help but be captivated by the charm and impressive voices of Isabelle de Leon, Katrina ‘Suklay Diva’ Velarde and Lara Maigue as the talented trio gave the crowd a taste of what is to be expected in the already much-anticipated beginning of “Trenderas”, which is set to finally premiere on September 13 at 9:00pm.

The PasigueƱos who gathered in the event widely enjoyed the sneak peek of “Trenderas”, seeing how they could easily relate to the unique and aspirational plot of the show. “Trenderas” chronicles the exciting journey of Isabelle, Katrina and Lara, who play the role of three best friends who make ends meet by selling trinkets on the street while at the same time sharing their collective dream of one day becoming professional singers. The program closely follows their inspiring transformation from seemingly ordinary ‘tinderas’ to the country’s newest trending stars.

Another remarkable event highlight was when the audience was treated to a free mini-concert of sorts with the three young stars performing for the first time in public the official and original catchy theme song of “Trenderas”. Aside from these and very much in-theme with the program’s plot, the 3 girls also judged an entertaining singing competition featuring select vendors from the Pasig Public Market, who were rewarded with grocery items and various TV5 premium items as prizes for their much-applauded fifteen seconds of fame on stage.

Also joining in on the Saturday morning fun were the two other recently-launched weekend shows of the Kapatid Network, beginning with “Quiet Please! Bawal ang Maingay” (Sundays at 8:00PM), where select audience members participated in a fun game, and “Talentadong Pinoy 2014” (Saturdays at 7:00PM), with the first-ever Ultimate Talentado Joshua “Yoyo Tricker” Davis performing alongside Talentadong Pinoy 2014 stand-outs “Synchro Mover” and “Probinsyano Pupeteer”, to the delight of the whole crowd.

Be sure to be on the lookout for the country’s newest trending sensations, with Isabelle, Katrina and Lara all set to soon invade the rest of the country as they continue to headline TV5’s nationwide palengke tour this month, kicking-off on September 6 in Commonwealth Market, followed by September 13 in Divisoria market, and finally on September 21 in Capiz Bacolod Market.

Kapamilya Top Execs and Brightest Stars Get Iced for a Cause

 ABS-CBN Press Statement

Manila, Philippines - ABS-CBN Chairman Eugenio “Gabby” Lopez III and President and CEO Charo Santos Concio showed their support for the worldwide campaign for raising awareness and research funds for the neurological disorder Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) or Lou Gehrig’s Disease by accepting the ice bucket challenge.

Lopez accepted the nomination of “TV Patrol” news anchor Noli de Castro and IBM Philippines general manager Mariels Almeda Winhoffer and agreed to get doused with a pail of iced water.  Concio, meanwhile, took the cause after being nominated by “Balitang Global” host and news reporter Doris Bigornia and entertainment reporter Gretchen Fullido.

Lopez passed on the dare to GMA 7’s Felipe “Henry” Gozon and TV 5’s Manny Pangilinan, while Concio challenged Philippine senator Grace Poe Llamanzares and actress Dawn Zulueta.

Among the Kapamilya celebrities who also joined the popular social media sensation were Lea Salonga, Kris Aquino, Anne Curtis, Vice Ganda, Angel Locsin, Luis Manzano, Kathryn Bernardo, Daniel Padilla, Vhong Navarro, Billy Crawford, Coleen Garcia, Paulo Avelino, Nadine Lustre, James Reid, Darla Sauler, among others.

News personalities de Castro, Ted Failon Korina Sanchez, Karen Davila, Bernadette Sembrano, Anthony Taberna, Bigornia, Mario Dumaual, Ginger Conejero, Fullido, TJ Manotoc, Pinky Webb, Ron Cruz, and Paolo Abrera also took the challenge.

Introduced by Washington-based ALS Association, the ice bucket challenge dares nominated participants to be filmed having a bucket of iced water poured on them, and then challenging others to do the same.  Challenged individuals will have to comply within 24 hours or forfeit by donating money.  However, some of the Kapamilya personalities opted to both donate to ALS Association and comply with the challenge.

According to www.als.org, the campaign has raised more than $100 million (over P4.3 billion) of donations as of August 29, 2014. (Kane Errol Choa, OIC, Integrated Corporate Communications, ABS-CBN Corporation).

BIR Commissioner Kim Henares Explains Reasons Behind PHL High Tax Contributions on "Face The People"

TV5 Press Statement

Hard-hitting public servant, BIR Commissioner Kim Henares will answer issues thrown to her by taxpayers in Friday’s (September 5) episode of TV5’s social reality talk show Face The People.

Known as one of the fearless women in the government today, BIR Commissioner Henares asserts that taxes are collected so that public services are delivered. The public servant also explained that she’s just doing her job as stated in the laws of the country: “Huwag ako ang sisihin niyo kundi yung mga congressmen at mga senador na gumagawa ng batas na ito” added Henares.

However, TV and radio personality Benj Felipe asserts that the middle class should not be taxed heavily: “Bakit kaming mga uring manggagawa ang dapat magdusa sa pagbabayad ng buwis kung hindi ninyo kayang habulin ang mayayamang nasa itaas at yung mga nasa ibaba”.

Small-time entrepreneurs Merly Castro (who owns a shop of imported second-hand goods/ “ukay-ukay”) and Janet Hidalgo (who owns a small sari-sari store) were also emotional to face the internal revenue chief. Lamenting how their minute earnings are the only what gets them through life, the women asked: “May mga anak kaming pinapaaral at kakarampot lang ang kinikita ng aming mga mister bilang construction worker. Paano na ang kinabukasan namin?

Check out the teaser below:

Will Henares hear the pleas of the people or will she stand by the law and her principles? Find out on Face The People, 10:15AM on TV5!

TFC Worldwide Welcomes 9 "I Do" Couples this Sunday, August 31

Manila, Philippines - Nine couples are about to face a whole new chapter that will change their lives forever. But before they take the big plunge to married life, the couples will embark on a journey that will test their relationships and discover new things about their significant others.  Will it be an “I Do” or an “I Don’t” for the couples?  Join them as they march down the aisle of challenges in the newest reali-serye “I Do,” which premiered on August 30, Saturday (August 31, Sunday in the U.S. [Eastern Time], Australia or Australian Eastern Standard Time [AEST], New Zealand or New Zealand Eastern Standard Time [NZST], and Guam) on The Filipino Channel (TFC) worldwide.

Throughout the competition, the couples will be tested and guided by host Judy Ann Santos-Agoncillo, along with other council members: life coach Pia Acevedo and psychologist and marriage counselor Dr. Julian Montano.  Co-host Jason Gainza will be joining Santos-Agoncillo in giving out the challenges.

Santos-Agoncillo, who is a well-respected and multi-awarded actress and who has been married for five years to husband Ryan Agoncillo and has two kids, said she will give advice to the couples based on her personal experiences as a wife and a mother.  She revealed: “The most challenging thing I do in the show is giving the couples pieces of advice that they can live by.  When I accepted to be on this show, I didn’t really know what I was getting in to.  I was just excited because it’s an original concept.  Along the way, I became sort of a life coach.  It just feels great to be a part of a couple’s journey to getting married.”

The nine couples will live in three houses inside the “I Do” village, but the women will sleep separately from the men.  Santos-Agoncillo shared that the program made her realize that the strength of a relationship does not depend on how long a couple has been together.   She said: “What’s important to me is that viewers will get inspiration from the show.  We made this program to inspire people not to jump into certain situations.  Lahat ng bagay ngayon dapat pinag-iisipan ng mabuti.
(Everything should be well-thought-out).”

In the program, the couples will be tested through cycles, with a theme each week and sessions based on real-life marriage and relationship situations.  Each week, the council will decide which couple leaves the “I Do” village.

Acevedo shared: “My favorite part about being part of the council is when the contestants ask for help and admit their weaknesses as a couple.  It is not about the show anymore.  I admire them because they let their vulnerability show.  I hope viewers learn from that and face their own barriers when it comes to love.”

Montano, meanwhile, shared that he is amazed by the production staff for conceptualizing creative activities which have started using professional counseling.  He said: “I learned a lot not just about delivering the topics and lines, but also in seeing the couples.  My one big learning in my experience is focusing on ethical responsibilities.  There should always be balance.  We open up their emotions and make them realize something.  My responsibility is to see to it that we bring them closure.”

The pilot of “I Do” unveiled the love stories of the nine couples, who are composed of the following: business partners who have become a romantic couple, a Korean-Pinay pair who showcase a fusion of their cultures, an engaged couple ready to settle, high-school sweethearts who have a long romantic history, a couple struggling to confront their haunting past, a couple who have been together for just three months, neighbors who have become lovers, a couple with a 19-year age gap, and a young pair who are already parents.

In the end, the winning couple will bring home P1 million, house and lot, and their dream grand wedding.

Whose love story is about to get a happy ending? Pokwang vs. Cristy Fermin in Court

It all started with a news that came from TV5 showbiz news anchor Cristy Fermin and tabloid entertainment reporter Richard Pinlac on their daily radio show "Cristy Ferminute".

According to the radio hosts, Pokwang brought so much emotional pain to her former employer Wowie de Dios of comedy bar Music Box where she started as a stand-up comedian and to some relatives who used to help her survived during her struggling days.

Watch below:

The Kapamilya comedienne is reportedly fuming mad over the allegations.

On her Instagram account @pokie827, Pokwang express her anger to Fermin, who according to her is constantly bad-mouthing her. She also posted a photo of a check deposit slip which is evidence of how she was deceived by Fermin when the latter was still connected with ABS-CBN.

"Isa lang ito sa nakatagong ebidensya ng pang uuto mo sa kin ng panahon na nasa abs cbn ka pa at may bulaklak ka sa dila! Marami pa ako nito nakatago lang! ayaw mo akong tantanan sa programa mong anim lang ang nakikinig tapos puro pa imbento at chika nyo! mga sugarol kasi kayo!!" Pokwang posted.

Pokwang remarked that she decided now to speak up and might opted to file a case against Fermin as she also has heard that her daughter is now being attacked on her radio show.

"after 4years na halos araw araw mo akong tinitira ngayon lang ako sasabog dahil balita ko pati anak ko na pinaghirapan kong buhayin mag isa at lahat ng dagok sa buhay ay pinag daanan ko maitaguyod ko lang sya! kapag napatunayan ko na tinawag mo nga siyang malandi sa programa mo o sa tabloid magkaka demandahan tayo! See you soon!" Pokwang posted.

Toni Gonzaga Faced Tons of Rejections Before Making It Big in PHL Showbiz

Toni Gonzaga recalls the struggles and difficulties she has been through to get to what she is right now - one of Philippine showbiz' most important stars.

The Ultimate Multimedia Star, in her interview with Anthony Taberna in August 28 episode of “Tapatan ni Tunying,” said she banks on her talent and personality to stand out in the overly competitive world of showbiz.

Toni started auditioning for entertainment projects since age nine. She was a “singing sensation” in her hometown in Taytay, Rizal, sweeping grand prizes in barangay competitions.Yet it took her eight years to get her lucky break - a soft drink commercial with Piolo Pascual.

She said, “Every rejection became my motivation. Mahusay din ‘yung support system ko, ‘yung mommy’t daddy ko, na [nagsabing] ‘O sige, susuportahan ka namin sa pangarap mo.’

Talagang lahat pinasok ko. Kumanta ako sa mga hotel lounge, nag-talent, talagang all around,” the box office actress relates. “Kumbaga sa kasambahay, luto, linis, laba, yaya. Kaya kong lahat. Para ‘pag tinanong ako ‘pag nago-audition ako nu’n, ‘Ano’ng kaya mong gawin?’ Ang isasagot ko, ‘Lahat po.’” she added.

Eventually, Toni became an in-demand host and recording artist. She also proved her acting mettle especially in the movies.

She has landed major roles in Star Cinema's “D' Anothers,”  “You Are The One,” “You Got Me,” “My Big Love,” “My Only U,” “Ang Tanging Pamilya,” “My Amnesia Girl,” “Wedding Tayo, Wedding Hindi,” “This Guy's In Love With You Mare,” “Four Sisters and A Wedding,” and “Starting Over Again.”
