22 Much-Awaited, Must-See Hollywood Movies this 2014 (July to December)

Here are the 22 much-awaited, must-see Hollywood movies Huffington Post Entertainment predicts to dominate worldwide box-office for the remainder of 2014.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes
Release Date: July 11

Why We're Excited: We've seen it! "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" combines Spielbergian wonder with vintage "Planet of the Apes" social commentary. The result is one of 2014's best blockbusters -- a thought-provoking thriller with a beating, wounded heart. All hail Andy Serkis as Caesar, a motion-capture performance for the ages.

Release Date: July 11

Why We're Excited: Because we've seen this one, too. Richard Linklater's epic coming-of-age story was 12 years in the making, and it's a remarkable achievement. "Boyhood" isn't just the best movie of 2014, it might be one of the best in a decade.

Guardians of the Galaxy
Release Date: August 1

Why We're Excited: As superhero movies become more and more homogenized, James Gunn's "Guardians of the Galaxy" looks like a true anomaly: an expensive, wild, goofy risk. At least that's what the expert marketing campaign put forward by Marvel is selling. Let's hope they can deliver on that promise.

What If
Release Date: August 1

Why We're Excited: Because Hollywood doesn't make romantic comedies anymore, and it's about time someone realized Daniel Radcliffe could be our new Hugh Grant.

The Giver
Release Date: August 15

This Is Where I Leave You
Release Date: September 19

Why We're Excited: Jonathan Tropper adapted his own popular novel for Shawn Levy's film, but what has us upbeat is the cast: Tina Fey, Adam Driver, Jason Bateman, Kathryn Hahn, Connie Britton, Jane Fonda, Corey Stoll, Rose Byrne and Timothy Olyphant.

The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby
Release Date: September 26

Why We're Excited: Ned Benson's epic drama debuted in two parts ("Her" and "Him") at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2013, and that concept alone is original enough to put "Eleanor Rigby" on any 2014 preview list. Having Jessica Chastain and James McAvoy in the lead roles doesn't hurt either.

Gone Girl
Release Date: October 3

Why We're Excited: David Fincher. Ben Affleck. Gillian Flynn. That trailer. Why aren't you excited?

The Interview
Release Date: October 10

Why We're Excited: This is a comedy about Seth Rogen and James Franco playing journalists who attempt to assassinate Kim Jong Un. Yes, of course we're excited.

The Judge
Release Date: October 10

Why We're Excited: The trailer contains a lot of schmaltz, but the idea of Robert Downey Jr. playing a regular person instead of a superhero is very intriguing.

Release Date: October 17

Why We're Excited: If Alejandro González Iñárritu's "Birdman" was only filmed with one continuous shot ... dayenu.

Release Date: November 7

Why We're Excited: Hi, Christopher Nolan made a new movie.

Big Hero 6
Release Date: November 7

Why We're Excited: Because lost in all the deserved mania about "Frozen" is the fact that Walt Disney Animation scored big with "Wreck-It Ralph" in 2012, and this film looks like its second cousin.

Release Date: November 14

Why We're Excited: Because "Foxcatcher" might give us the phrase, "Channing Tatum, Oscar nominee."

Release Date: November 14

Why We're Excited: Shia LaBeouf appears in this movie, and might have to do press?

Dumb and Dumber To
Release Date: November 14

Why We're Excited: We're not, but we can understand why a lot of people are. If only "Dumb and Dumber To" had a better trailer.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1
Release Date: November 21

Why We're Excited: The rise of Bad Peeta.

Inherent Vice
Release Date: December 12

Why We're Excited: Hi, Paul Thomas Anderson made a new movie.

Release Date: December 12

Why We're Excited: "Annie" looks like the kind of thrown-together musical that could be really fun ... or really bad.

Cameron Crowe's New Movie
Release Date: December 25

Why We're Excited: Cameron Crowe made a movie with Emma Stone.

Into the Woods
Release Date: December 25

Why We're Excited: Meryl Streep's wig, for one thing.

Release Date: December 25

Why We're Excited: Because the teaser for Angelina Jolie's "Unbroken" that played during the Winter Olympics was better than most movies.

Moments after Ai Ai delas Alas said in an interview that Kris Aquino should've not posted online the card sent to her by Governor Vilma Santos bearing wrong grammar and spelling (read related news HERE), the comedy queen became the target of online tirade mostly calling her "sawsawera" and "has-been actress (laos)".

5 Things You Must Know Before Watching "She's Dating The Gangster"

Can pretend love lead to true love? This is what the characters of Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo will find out in the romantic movie She's Dating the Gangster.   SDTG is based on the young adult novel with the same title published by Summit Books.

The movie is directed by Cathy Garcia-Molina with a screenplay from Carmi Raymundo. She's Dating the Gangster tells the heart-wrenching tale of 17-year-old Athena Dizon who pretends to be the girlfriend of campus bad boy Kenji delos Reyes who wants to make his ex jealous. Aside from Kathniel, the film also features the "special participation" of Richard Gomez and Dawn Zulueta. Other cast members include Khalil Ramos, Igi Boy Flores, Marco Gumabao, Pamu Pamorada, Alexander Diaz, John Uy and Yana Asistio. This Star Cinema movie is slated to open on #SevenOneSixOneFour or July 16, 2014. Before the movie opens in cinemas, here are 5 things you need to know about She's Dating the Gangster:

1. The tragic-romantic fan-fiction story originated online.

Psychology graduate Bianca Bernardino started writing She's Dating the Gangster in late 2005 until January 2006. She originally posted it on in April 2006. The story was published on social publishing site Wattpad, after which it was released by Summit Books in March 2013. The following April, it shot to the top of National Book Store’s Philippine bestseller list. She's Dating the Gangster is now on its 7th reprint and Summit Books has already printed 115,000 copies. Trivia: Bianca Bernardino thought Summit Books Managing Editor Mavreen Yapchiongco was playing a prank on her when she contacted her!

2. There is a movie tie-in available.

In anticipation of the release of the movie, Summit Books has released a special version of She's Dating the Gangster featuring Kathniel on the cover. There are 40,000 copies of these printed. It features the original edited version from's Teen Talk forum. The film tie-in cover is an ever-growing trend in publishing, especially for Hollywood productions. Trivia: The movie tie-in edition is in Taglish and contains pin-ups of Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla!

3. There is a gangster checklist.

In the prologue of the book, there is a note from Athena listing the qualities that make her say that Kenji is a gangster. To quote: He's not into a gang nor is he a criminal. I just mean that he's your typical bad boy:  - he's irritating  - he's loud  - he smokes and drinks  - he goes clubbing on weekdays  - he gets into fights   It remains to be seen if Daniel's Kenji will display all these characteristics.

4. The writer originally envisioned Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson as Athena and Kenji.

In a previous interview, Bianca Bernardino recalled that  Kimerald was the popular loveteam back then while she was writing the story. She initially thought Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson would be suited to portray Athena and Kenji. "Kasi nung time ko...2006 pa itong libro na ito, e. Wala pang Kathniel noon. Naisip ko nga nung time na yun si Kim Chiu at Gerald Anderson ang bagay. Kaso Sa generation ngayon, sina Kathryn at Daniel na yung mas bagay sa karakter.” But now, Bernardino sees why Kathryn and Daniel are a good fit for their roles: “Kasi, si Daniel kasi medyo bad boy yung pino-portray niya sa TV. Akala natin ganun siya pero nakikita ko na medyo sweet pala siya na tao despite of being a bad boy image. Medyo ganun yung karakter nung guy sa book ko. “Si Kathryn naman kasi medyo parang underdog na palaban, e, ganun yung girl dito sa book na kahit na anong gawin sa kanya ay hindi pa rin sya nag gi-give-up.”

5. Expect deviations from the book.

In an interview with Direk Cathy Garcia-Molina published in the July 2014 issue of YES! Magazine, she revealed that they made changes to the movie version.   "Aminado kami na maraming eksena ang hindi namin maipakita na tulad ng sa libro, at merong mga eksena na babaguhin nang konti sa ngalan ng pagpoprotekta naman sa medium ng cinema. "With due respect naman to Summit and Miss Bianca, lahat naman 'to alam nila. So there is a mutual understanding and may permission from them, and they understood why these changes have to be done." Direk Cathy assures fans that the modifications have been handled well.

Mo Twister Attacks Jolo Ejercito on Twitter; Jinggoy Estrada's Kids Strike Back

Controversial DJ Mo Twister is at it again! This time the children of detained Senator Jinggoy Estrada as his new enemies. reports:

The children of Senator Jinggoy Estrada will not have controversial DJ Mo Twister criticizing one of their siblings or their father, who is currently detained in connection with the multibillion-peso pork barrel scam.

Mo Twister, whose real name is Mohan Gumatay, triggered the online feud when he tweeted early Friday asking whether Estrada's son, Jose Luis "Jolo" Ejercito, has a Twitter account so he can "cyber-bully him."

Showbiz newcomer Julian Emilio, another of Sen. Estrada's four children with wife Precy Vitug, called out Gumatay minutes after he tweeted about Jolo. "Be professional you douche," Julian told the DJ.

Apparently recognizing Julian to be one of Estrada's children, Gumatay responded: "The f****** irony from you. The 'profession' is to not steal. To help the less fortunate instead of making them lesser fortunate."

Gumatay also made fun of Julian for using the word "professional," noting they don't work together. The 18-year-old, in his last tweet addressing Gumatay, asked if the DJ "even [knows] the whole story."

Gumatay, however, was not finished yet. He identified Julian as the companion of Jolo in a viral photo taken inside what appears to be a private jet. The controversial photo was only a part of a blog post detailing Jolo's supposed "lavish lifestyle" in pictures.

The blog post, which also showed a photo of a diplomatic passport supposedly under Jolo's name, made the rounds online after Sen. Estrada's surrender and subsequent detention at the Philippine National Police Custodial Center last month.

Enter San Juan Councilor Janella "Jel" Ejercito.

Sen. Estrada's daughter took to her social media accounts to answer Gumatay, saying the DJ is already too old to be instigating fights on social media. Jel also ridiculed Gumatay for his supposed effort to get attention with his tweets.

In an Instagram post showing screenshots of Gumatay's tweets, Jel said: "Nakakaawa. Don't add salt to the wound. We sincerely pitied you when there was a 'leaked' video of you crying about Rhian Ramos having an abortion and you didn't hear anything from us.

"But I guess people like you do not deserve any amount of kindness because you think that being controversial in terms of being rude to other people makes you marketable. Now, we pity you even more."

Jel also told Gumatay never to call any of her brothers "bobo." Mentioning once again that the DJ is supposedly no longer popular, Jel added: "Kung mayroon [mang bobo], siguro ikaw na po yun dahil ginagamit mo ang laos mong kasikatan sa pamamagitan ng paninira sa ibang tao without even knowing the truth about anything at tuluyang naniniwala sa haka haka."

While no longer viewable on Instagram, the post was still visible on Jel's official Facebook page, as of writing. Jel's Twitter account, which she also used to answer Gumatay, likewise appears to have been deleted.

Although Jel's tweets are no longer accessible, screenshots of her exchange with Gumatay have made the rounds online.

Responding to Jel saying the focus of her Instagram post was Gumatay's "hostile behavior," the DJ mentioned Sen. Estrada and "the money he stole."

Gumatay added that Jel should "educate" her brother Jolo, referring once again to the viral photos of his lifestyle. "I know he's not a politician but that's the people's money on his feet," he said.

Jel responded: "Unjustified claims. No court has convicted him of any crimes. People post these types of photos everyday. People overly judge."

Gumatay then linked Jel to a page detailing Republic Act 6713 or the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees, noting that it also applies to her brothers.

"Are you really educating me?" Jel answered. "I didn't know you're a teacher. Haha! Good luck with your life, big mouth! God bless you."

Bringing up the 2007 plunder conviction and subsequent pardon of Sen. Estrada's father, former president and now Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada, Gumatay quipped it "would be nice to have educated politicians."

Funny, Amazing, Heartfelt Videos: When Korean Stars Talk in Tagalog

Source: Nikko Tuazon (@mrnikkotuazon) via

Last May, the cast of the South Korean show Real Men went to Tacloban, Leyte, to film their special challenge working with South Korean military volunteers Araw Contingent.

The more than 500-strong Araw Contingent has been deployed in Leyte since December last year, to help in the rehabilitation of towns and cities severely damaged by super typhoon Yolanda last November.

In the latest episode of Real Men, Korean stars Kim Su Ro, Seo Kyung Suk, Park Hyung Shik of Z:EA, Sam Hammington, Park Gun Hyung, Chun Jung Myung, K.Will, and Henry Lau of Super Junior, worked with the volunteers for a total of five nights and six days.

The cast went to Mohon Elementary School in Tanauan, Leyte, to rebuild classrooms.

Among the tasks required from the cast-members was to learn how to speak Tagalog.

In one scene, the South Korean stars were shown trying their best to speak Tagalog words and phrases, and acting out scenes from popular Korean dramas Dae Jang Geum and Endless Love (Autumn Tales) which were aired in the Philippines and dubbed in Tagalog.

The Tagalog words and phrases they practiced were:

Huwag ka nang magsalita pa. Binibili kita ng pera. Magkano ba?”

Magkano ba ang ibibigay mo?”

Real Men also showed a serious portion of the program where Super Junior member Henry related his experience walking around the streets of a barangay in Tanauan with two young local survivors of Yolanda.

The two boys showed Henry where they buried their dead loved ones and what was left of their house after Yolanda hit their town.

The singer said he felt like crying after hearing their story, but held back after seeing and realizing how strong the boys were.

Another funny moment in this episode of Real Men was the part where each member of the cast had to declare what they want to achieve in their special challenge.

As each men try their best to impress the Araw Contingent officer with their serious and military-style of delivering their goals, Henry was more relaxed telling the officer his intention: to help the Filipino people, and "eat some mango."

June 2014 TV Ratings: ABS-CBN vs GMA-7 vs TV5, Which Network Conquers the Top Spot?

ABS-CBN, the country’s largest and leading multimedia conglomerate, maintained its leadership in nationwide TV viewing across urban and rural homes in June with an average audience share of 45%, or 13 points higher than GMA’s 32%, according to data from Kantar Media.

Kantar Media uses a nationwide panel size of 2,609 urban and rural homes that represent 100% of the total Philippine TV viewing population, while the other ratings data supplier AGB Nielsen reportedly has only 1,980 homes based solely in urban areas that represent only 57% of the Philippine TV viewing population.

The figures for June also showed that more Filipino households nationwide tuned in to ABS-CBN’s shows across all programming blocks.

ABS-CBN’s Umaganda (6AM-12NN) scored an average audience share of 39%, while GMA garnered 34%. The musical game show “The Singing Bee,” which recorded an average national TV rating of 12.9%, continued to spread fun to morning viewers despite new rival “Basta Everyday Happy” (4.9%).

Its early afternoon block (12NN-3PM) obtained 40%, or eight points ahead of GMA’s 32%, while its late afternoon block (3PM-6PM) gained 42%, or nine points bigger than GMA’s 33%.

The Kapamilya network continued to win the primetime block (6PM-12MN) with an average audience share of 51%, or a whopping 21-point lead over GMA’s 30%. Primetime Bida’s consistent win was driven by high caliber line-up of teleseryes including “The Legal Wife” which concluded last June 13 with a record high national TV rating of 36.2%. “Dyesebel” and “Ikaw Lamang” alternately take the top one and two spots in the most watched programs list during weekdays. Bea Alonzo starrer “Sana Bukas Pa Ang Kahapon,” meanwhile, premiered strong at 21.7% last June 16.

The primetime block is the most important part of the day when most Filipinos watch TV and advertisers put a larger chunk of their investment in to reach more consumers effectively.

The comeback of the ‘90s hit legal drama anthology “Ipaglaban Mo” was warmly welcomed by the viewers with an average national TV ratings of 13.8%, outplaying “GMA Tales of Horror” with 7%.
“The Voice Kids” reached its all-time high national TV rating of 37.6% last June 8. The Twitter-trending singing reality show again topped the list of the 15 most watched programs in the country in June and hit an average national TV rating of 35.6%.
