Ed Sheeran Sings for “The Fault in Our Stars”

John Green’s global bestseller struck a chord not only with young adults, but with readers of all ages, when it came out in 2012. The film, starring Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort is equally compelling, bringing Green’s indelible characters to life on screen. It tells the story of Hazel Grace Lancaster (Woodley) and Gus Waters (Elgort), who are immediately drawn to each other when they meet at a cancer support group. Friendship and a shared sense of humor turn into something much deeper for the pair and we are swept along on their extraordinary journey as they embark on a quest that takes them thousands of miles away from home, to Amsterdam.

Ostensibly centered on two teenagers with cancer, at its heart “The Fault In Our Stars” is moving, funny and upbeat, about the joys and heartache of first love. In short, the film is an insightful celebration of life. There is powerful chemistry between the two stars of the film. Directed by Josh Boone (“Stuck In Love”), the consummate supporting cast includes Laura Dern, Sam Trammell, Nat Wolff and Willem Dafoe.

The British musician Ed Sheeran whose music videos in YouTube and songs are widely followed and anticipated, watched an early version of “The Fault In Our Stars” and was immediately inspired and affected by the remarkable movie. Sheeran signed on to write a song for the film: ‘All Of The Stars’.

“Julie Greenwald, who runs Atlantic Records, my record label, kept saying: ‘have you read this book, “The Fault In Our Stars”?  You need to read this book, it’s amazing. They’ve made a movie of it.’ She just kept saying it and then eventually I watched the film and it is amazing! I had a bit of an emotional breakdown and tweeted about it, and I saw the huge reaction just from one tweet. I cracked! I was like, ‘cool, let’s do it.’ I realized there was a pretty sizeable fan base for the book and the upcoming film. I was so excited that I was asked to write a song for the film. I wrote ‘All of the Stars’ and I’m very glad to be involved,” shares Sheeran on how his song for the movie came to be.

When he was only 20 years old, Ed Sheeran’s highly praised EP ‘No. 5 Collaborations Project’, reached number 2 on the iTunes chart. His multi-platinum debut album called ‘+’ (plus) established him as a global presence. In 2011, Sheeran won two Brit Awards, [one for British Breakthrough Act and another for British Male Solo Artist]. He performed with Elton John at the 2013 Grammys, toured with Taylor Swift on The Red Tour and played at the 2012 Olympics Closing Ceremony. He was nominated for a Grammy for  ‘The A Team’ in 2013. This year he was nominated for another Grammy, for Best New Artist. Sheeran has contributed to many film and television soundtracks. He wrote the original song ‘I See Fire’ for “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.” He wrote two songs for the popular group One Direction, which were in the film “One Direction: This Is Us.” His songs have been featured in TV shows such as “Grey’s Anatomy” and “The Vampire Diaries.”

Sheeran continues to share that, “I wanted to make a very emotive song that would make people cry, I guess. For people who love the book and love the movie, I hope this song makes them cry. That’s the goal. You wouldn’t watch the film if you didn’t want to cry and have a good release. So I hope the song gives people a release. I wanted something very anthemic and euphoric to lead the audience out of the film and to give it emotion.”

“The Fault In Our Stars” opens June 5 in cinemas nationwide from 20th Century Fox to be distributed by Warner Bros.

Hailed by U.S. critics as Cruise's “best movie in years,” “Edge of Tomorrow” currently has a 92% fresh rating at the review-consensus site Rottentomatoes.com. But with each battle, Cage becomes able to engage the adversaries with increasing skill, alongside Special Forces warrior Rita Vrataski (Blunt). And, as Cage and Rita take the fight to the aliens, each repeated encounter gets them one step closer to defeating the enemy.

The international cast also includes Bill Paxton, Brendan Gleeson, Jonas Armstrong, Tony Way, Kick Gurry, Franz Drameh, Dragomir Mrsic and Charlotte Riley.

Liman directed “Edge of Tomorrow” from a screenplay by Christopher McQuarrie and Jez Butterworth & John-Henry Butterworth, based on the novel entitled All You Need is Kill by Hiroshi Sakurazaka.

“Be Careful With My Heart” Dominates Malaysia and Vietnam TV Ratings

The Philippines’ number one daytime drama series “Be Careful with My Heart” is now a certified southeast Asian phenomenon in two countries as it continues to captivate viewers from Malaysia and Vietnam with its light, feel good love story.

The well-loved family series currently enjoys an average of 1.6 million viewers in Malaysia everyday via Media Prima, which is considerably high for a foreign content airing on Malaysian free TV.

Just like Filipinos, Malaysians would share their thoughts to their social media accounts to express how much they adore the romance between nanny Maya (Jodi Sta.Maria) and her boss Sir Chief (Richard Yap). It created such a buzz online that “Be Careful with My Heart” landed in the top ten Twitter trending topics in Malaysia.

Malaysian viewers embrace the series because of its light but engaging plot. They find it unique and just full of good vibes since the story doesn’t have an antagonist unlike the usual soap operas on TV. They are also delighted with the sweetness and politeness of the characters.

From Malaysia, the “Be Careful with My Heart” fever crosses over to Vietnam where it is also a widely-followed Filipino series airing every 7:00pm via Today TV.

According to Lam Chi Thien, the executive chairman and CEO of International Media JS Company, Vietnamese are endeared towards the show because they can relate to its characters and what they represent in society.

Maya and Sir Chief are very down to earth and they represent the working class in the society,” he said in an interview with the Philippines primetime newscast “TV Patrol.”

“Be Careful with My Heart” is only among the many Filipino dramas made available to international viewers by ABS-CBN International Distribution.

ABS-CBN International Distribution has been recognized in the global arena as a reliable foreign content provider. It has been a premier source of high quality Filipino programming in over 50 territories all over the world and has sold over 30,000 hours of content worldwide. Living up to this recognition, ABS-CBN International Distribution commits to add to its line-up of high-caliber programs and movies with cast and storylines that appeal to various cultures.

Alden Richards, The Tween Star Has Turned Into A.....

He is too clean to be rugged and his face too angelic to portray an evil role but Alden Richards shared to selected members entertainment bloggers that he has been pushing for reinvention. Joining the ranks of Dingdong Dantes, Dennis Trillo and Aljur Abrenica as among the most bankable Kapuso leading men, Alden doesn't want to bore his audience. This has been translated to good effects so far after he is chosen as the cover boy of the May 2014 issue of ABS-CBN Publishing Inc's Chalk Magazine and has completed a "wild" love scene in his upcoming indie film, "Cain At Abel."

Although he looks like he is, Alden never said that he is perfect. "Pasaway din ako minsan, minsan lang naman. Pero di pa naman ako nakagawa ng mga bagay na grabe," he shared pointing out that the worst thing that he did in real life so far are pranks. But when asked by Chalk Magazine if he agrees that the bad boys get the girls, he kind of took the nod. "In a way I agree. Kasi girls nowadays are really attracted to the bad boy image, pero I think nakikita nila if 'yung badass appeal ng isang guy is reasonable, yun ang nakaka-attract."

The change though will have to come from the roles that he will soon portray and not really from his image as a popular personality. Continue reading HERE.

Rodel Nacianceno Reveals How He Got His Screen Name Coco Martin

When he was assigned his screen name, then-showbiz newcomer Rodel Nacianceno felt he wasn't being taken seriously.

Coco Martin, as he is known now, recalled in an interview on "Gandang Gabi Vice" aired Sunday how he got the name, which has so far been credited in some 20 TV shows and 30 films since 2005.

The 32 year-old actor, who is dubbed local showbiz's "King of Primetime," said his screen name was suggested by talent manager Ed Instrella, who handles the careers of film veterans Jaclyn Jose and Cherry Pie Picache, among others.

"Nung nagsisimula kasi ako, siyempre, marami sa'yong tumutulong," Coco said. "Sabi niya sa akin, 'Alam mo, may bagay na pangalan sa'yo - Coco Martin.' Sabi ko, 'Coco Martin? Parang hindi seryoso. Parang pinag-trip-an lang.' Honestly, iyon ang nasa isip ko no'n!"

Despite some hesitation, Coco agreed to take on the name. "Siyempre, nagsisimula ka, binigyan ka ng screen name tapos talagang respetado 'yung tao. 'Sige, puwede na 'yan,'" he said.

Nacianceno, as Coco Martin, eventually earned the title "Prince of Philippine Independent Films" after a string of award-winning portrayals in adult-themed indie films, including Brillante Mendoza's "Masahista" in 2005 - his first lead role.
Coco recalled his amusement with Instrella's reason for picking "Coco Martin." The talent manager, Coco recalled, simply put together names of international singers who were popular at the time.

"Sabi ko, 'Bakit Coco Martin?' Sabi daw, that time kasikatan ni Ricky Martin atsaka ni Coco Lee. Sabi ko, 'Parang pinag-trip-an lang ako!'" he said.

Around 15 years since he joined the film industry, Coco's involvement in a number of his projects now goes beyond acting. In the hit primetime series "Juan dela Cruz," for instance, he was credited as creative consultant Rodel Nacianceno, on top of portraying the title role.

Coco will top-bill his second "mainstream" film, "Maybe This Time," opposite pop star Sarah Geronimo. The romance movie, a co-production between Viva Films and Star Cinema, will hit theaters nationwide on May 28.

Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill Invade Re-create the Magic in “22 Jump Street”

Big changes are in store for police officers Schmidt (Jonah Hill) and Jenko (Channing Tatum) when they go deep undercover at a local college, in Columbia Pictures' new action comedy “22 Jump Street,” the much anticipated sequel to 2012's blockbuster hit, “21 Jump Street.”

The first “21 Jump Street” movie took the classic television series’ premise of youthful-looking cops going undercover in a high school and made it all its own. Where the series was an earnest procedural, the film became a subversion of action comedies, with the relationship between the leads taking center stage.

Schmidt and Jenko are an odd couple,” says Hill. “They got together because they’re partners, but they really worked well together because they brought different things to the table.”

As a result, Schmidt and Jenko became an unforgettable screen couple. “They’re like Bogart and Bacall,” says Phil Lord, who returns to co-direct the sequel, with Christopher Miller, who adds, “They had this amazing natural chemistry. They’re very different, but they really respect and admire each other. They make a great yin-yang pair.

In “22 Jump Street,” the filmmakers take the relationship to the next level. If the first film was about forming a relationship, the new film is about what it takes to make a relationship last.

That idea dovetails nicely with the fact that the film is a sequel. Rather than approach “22 Jump Street” by trying to re-create the magic – a re-tread of what came before – the filmmakers sought ways to keep it fresh… which is, of course, what we all have to do with our relationships. “The thing that struck us about movie sequels is that, in a way, they’re like the second part of a relationship,” says Lord. “In a relationship, you can try to recreate the past, but it’s never going to be the same; you’ve got to create new and different experiences that are just as great.

We came up with the idea of the ‘seven year itch,’” says producer Neal H. Moritz. “In the first film, they didn’t like each other, but came to be great friends and partners; now, their relationship has become complacent – like a marriage. That became the spine of our story.

So, that’s how we approached the movie,” says Miller, picking up the thought. “The running gag is that the plot is just like the last one – but in trying to do the same thing again, it doesn’t work, and Schmidt and Jenko have to find something new.”

With that in mind, it also made sense to the filmmakers that “22 Jump Street” would be set in a college. “We got inspired by the idea that Jenko and Schmidt are each other’s ‘hometown honey’ – but they go to college, and the world is opened up to them,” says Lord. “They experience new things and start to wonder whether they’re with the right person or not. For those of us who went to college and had friends who went through that, it seemed honest and true.

College is about finding out who you are,” says Hill, who also produces the film with Moritz and Tatum. “For example, Schmidt has really defined himself by this partnership with Jenko. In college, he’s struggling to know who he is.”

Jenko, meanwhile, has found somebody with a few more of his shared interests. When their investigation leads them to look into the football team, Jenko finds a kindred spirit in Zook, the team’s quarterback, played by Wyatt Russell. Before long, the bromance that seemed made in heaven is in trouble. “Zook is kind of Jenko’s man-crush,” says Tatum. “There are jealousy issues immediately –and those issues get in the way of the case that Schmidt and Jenko are supposed to be working. They end up investigating separately.

Opening across the Philippines in June 18, “22 Jump Street” is distributed by Columbia Pictures, local office of Sony Pictures Releasing International.

“Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno” and “Rurouni Kenshin: The Legend Ends” Opens in PH Theaters on August 20 and September 24

Warner Bros. Pictures Philippines will roll-out a back-to-back release platform for the eagerly anticipated sequels of “Rurouni Kenshin.” This was announced today by Francis Soliven, General Manager of Warner Bros. (F.E.), Inc.

The first sequel, “Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno” will open here on Aug. 20, 2014, to be followed one month after by “Rurouni Kenshin: The Legend Ends” on Sept. 24, 2014. (The teaser trailer for the two titles can now be viewed at http://youtu.be/MSqj9n0VqIQ.)

The release pattern will allow fans to experience the cathartic conclusion to the celebrated saga with little time in between and honors the filmmakers' wishes as to how the sequels should be viewed. The twin features will have the same opening window in Japan.

With the release of the original “Rorouni Kenshin” last year, Japanese cinema entered a new era. A commercial film combining unparalleled speed and overwhelming action in a moving human drama, it was an explosive blockbuster that was met with riotous enthusiasm by the fans.

This was the first motion picture inspired by Kenshin the Wanderer: The Romance of the Meiji Swordsman (Shueisha Jump Comics), the monumental manga comic by Nobuhiro Watsuki that has sold more than 5.8 million copies and been translated into more than 20 languages.

Directed by Keishi Ōtomo, the film told of fictional events that took place during the early Meiji period in Japan, focusing on a wanderer named Himura Kenshin (Takeru Satoh), formerly known as the assassin Hitokiri Battōsai. After participating in the Bakumatsu war, Kenshin wanders the countryside of Japan offering protection and aid to those in need as atonement for the murders he once committed as an assassin.

The filmmakers faced a serious challenge in meeting the high expectations of the manga fans, a challenge they succeeded beyond anyone’s expectations as the film arrived to a rapturous reception throughout Japan, quickly taking in more than 3 billion yen at the box office. Word-of-mouth spread quickly overseas, and “Rurouni Kenshin” was shown in 31 festivals and received distribution in 64 territories, including the Philippines.

The production team was aware from the start that the “Rurouni Kenshin” story would not be complete without a film version of the “Kyoto Arc,” the highest-rated and best-loved segment that serves as a climax to the manga series. Coincidentally, the resolution and determination with which the main character Kenshin survives through a turbulent age serve as a guidepost to the filmmakers.

And so, in answer to calls from around the world demanding “more Kenshin,” the filmmakers proudly present “Kyoto Inferno” and “The Legend Ends.”

The highly-anticipated TV5 series, ‘Jasmine’, is ready to give audiences an exciting new way to enjoy TV. It premieres on Sunday, June 1, at 9:15PM.

Breaking away from the traditional romance/drama genre, ‘Jasmine’ is a show full of mystery and suspense that blurs the lines between reality and fiction. It stars Jasmine Curtis Smith, who plays a fictional version of herself: an indie actress who is on the verge of becoming a mainstream celebrity. She faces the usual challenges in the show biz industry: failed relationships, rivalries, the pressure to win awards, and unsuccessful auditions. A creation of award-winning advertising agency Ace Saatchi & Saatchi, in partnership with Unitel and TV5, ‘Jasmine’ brings the story to life 24/7 by also making its characters exist online - and in person.

Wendell has even appeared in blogger and fan events to support Jasmine’s endeavors.

Then there’s Maskara, who takes cyberstalking to a new level, and displays his love for Jasmine in his digital shrine: jasmineallmine.com.

Meanwhile, news about the show, behind-the-scenes photos, and character profiles are viewable on the ‘Jasmine’ Facebook Page, and Twitter and Instagram accounts.

TV5 also introduces its TV5 Mobile app which Android-users can tune into while the episodes air. Trivia and other cool facts about the show and its characters pop up in real time. Be on the lookout as well, for promos to win phones, load, and more.

Big Reveal: Bella Thorne is Adam Sandler's Daughter in "Blended"

Teen actress Bella Thorne, star of the hit Disney Channel original series “Shake It Up,” crosses over to the big screen in Warner Bros. Pictures' new comedy “Blended” where she plays the eldest daughter of Adam Sandler's character.

Thorne stars as Hilary, a 15-year-old who is clearly emerging as a beautiful young woman, despite having a dad who calls her Larry, dresses her like a boy, and encourages her to protein-load at the buffet.

As Thorne explains, “Hilary is a tomboy but that doesn’t mean she isn’t a girl too. She’s a little shy and self-conscious and just wants to jump out of her skin sometimes. Her hair is kind of a curly, frizzy bowl and she’s always in track suits, which doesn’t help.”

In “Blended,” single parents Lauren (Drew Barrymore) and Jim (Sandler) agree on only one thing after a disastrous blind date: they never want to see each other again. But when they each sign up separately for a fabulous family vacation with their kids, they are all stuck sharing a suite at a luxurious African safari resort for a week.

As the two families settle into their safari holiday, it’s Hilary who reaches across the aisle first, enlisting Lauren’s help in the style department while trying to catch the attention of her new crush – fellow teen vacationer Jake, played by Zak Henri. In the process, she makes a transformation that is at once amazing and perfectly natural, bringing out some of her more feminine qualities while not compromising any of the strengths and skills that could conceivably earn her a basketball scholarship.

The young actress shares that she has a lot in common with Hilary. “Even though I’m wearing pink right now, I am very much a tomboy,” Thorne says. “I really like to just eat chicken wings and slurp Ramen. I have the stains all over my shirt to prove it. And I think that every girl would feel for this character because there are a lot of times when you’re wanting to get out of your own skin, and she just wants to be noticed. She just wants this boy to notice that she’s a girl and he doesn’t. [Laughs] And it’s the worst.

Also, I think she’s looking for a new mother figure and she gets put in this position with her father because she really is like his best buddy, like his little guy friend that he’s just chilling on the couch with.”

Bella was brilliant,” director Frank Coraci attests. “Here’s a young woman who is known for being stylish and beautiful on red carpets and in magazines, and she has to shed her make-up, have bad hair and wear horribly fitting outfits. But she committed to it completely. She’s funny, she’s engaging, and she can dance, and, fortunately, she gets to showcase all of that in this movie.”

When asked what was the transition like for her from television to film, Thorne reveals “The only thing I miss about TV is that the people you work with see you every day. They see you in your worst mood and your best mood, so sometimes they’re really much closer to you than even your best friends. And when you work on a film, you get so close to your cast and your crew. And then three months later, you have to leave them and you wonder if you’re ever going to see them again, which is a little depressing. So that sucks.

Bella Thorne sky-rocketed to fame with her tween/teen fans playing aspiring dancer Cece Jonesin “Shake It Up” which originally premiered with 6.2 million viewers.

Most recently, she wrapped production on the feature films “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day,” “Big Sky,” opposite Kyra Sedgwick,” and “Home Invasion.” She also signed a three book deal with Random House titled Autumn Falls, with the first book scheduled for late 2014, and was recently named the new Candie’s girl, following in the footsteps of Britney Spears, Carly Rae Jepsen, Vanessa Hudgens and Lea Michele.

The triple threat also recently expanded her talent in the music arena with her first solo single, “TTYLXOX,” which was included on the “Shake It Up” soundtrack and not only made the Billboard 100 but has sold over 300,000 copies to date. She has been topping the charts at Radio Disney with “Bubblegum Boy,” and collaborated with IM5 on the single “Can’t Stay Away.”

Opening across the Philippines on June 11, “Blended” is a Warner Bros. Pictures presentation of a Gulfstream Pictures/Happy Madison Production and will be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment company.
