Nora Aunor "Himala" Statue Rises in Paoay, Ilocos Norte

Source: superstarnora.blogspot.com

A fiber-glass statue representing Superstar Nora Aunor's most iconic role, "Elsa," from the CNN Asia-Pacific Screen Awards' Best Asia-Pacific Film of All Time, "Himala," is to be unveiled on May 10th at the Paoay Sand Dunes in Ilocos Norte. This is in time for the La Milagrosa Festival, an annual provincial celebration honoring La Virgen Milagrosa, the Patron Saint of Ilocos Norte. A free concert dubbed as "Himala sa Buhangin" will feature singer Bamboo. Nora herself is expected to grace the event.

Visual artist Leo Gerardo "Gerry" Leonardo is the one responsible for the Elsa sculpture. He is a special education teacher for visual arts at the Philippine High School for the Arts, of which he is also an alumnus. He is best known around Manila for his large-scale sculptures including the famous Balanghai in Taguig city.

The statue shows Nora Aunor (as Elsa) kneeling, in her famous praying posture.

So, why Elsa? Why Nora Aunor?

Ilocos Norte governor Imee Marcos is spearheading the event. As everybody knows, she was the Director-General of the Experimental Cinema of the Philippines which produced "Himala." Hence, it is expected that "Himala," generally regarded as the greatest Filipino film of all time, is very close to her heart. After over three decades, the Nora Aunor movie continues to receive acclaim even outside the country.

Several local and foreign films have been shot in Paoay (or have featured the province) - "Mad Max" (1979), "Panday" series (1980, 1981, 1982, 1984), "Temptation Island" (1980 and 2011), "Stryker" (1983) "Silip" (1985), "Born on the Fourth of July" (1989), "Emir" (2010)", and "Thelma" (2011) - but the most popular and certainly, the most significant is "Himala," which was written by multi-awarded scriptwriter Ricky Lee and directed by National Artist Ishmael Bernal.

The governor has succeeded in making the Paoay Sand Dunes a tourist attraction despite its being dry and nothing but sand. A few years ago, she had announced that she would offer incentives to film producers who would shoot in Ilocos Norte.

Unarguably, Nora Aunor has the most impressive body of work among all artists from different media. She is, in fact, a true multi-media superstar. She has conquered them: music, radio, television, movies, stage, and print.

Therefore, honoring Nora Aunor and her most iconic film character is just a fitting tribute to her legendary artistry spanning five decades. Her statue is not meant to be idolized like a sacred monument; instead, it will commemorate the global excellence of "Himala" and perhaps, Nora's excellence as an artist.

Liam Neeson Caught in Dangerous Affair with the "Third Person"

From Paul Haggis, director of Oscar winning film “Crash,” comes “Third Person” starring a powerhouse cast led by Liam Neeson, Olivia Wilde, Kim Basinger, Adrien Brody, Mila Kunis, James Franco and Moran Atias that tells three stories of love, passion, trust and betrayal.

The idea for “Third Person” started within days of finishing shooting The Next Three Days, Haggis’s last film.  It began with a series of conversations between Paul and actress Moran Atias, who suggested Paul should write a multi-plotline film about love and relationships. Shared stories and painful and joyous anecdotes about love and relationships turned into fiction over the next months as the characters took form and the stories slowly found shape.  Paul found this the most challenging of his screenplays “because I wrote it all wrong, from the inside out.  I let the characters tell me where the story was going, and often they just wouldn’t speak to me – or worse, they lied to me” he said with a wry smile.

Haggis enjoys exploring complex characters,  “While we don’t often see it in movies, I believe people often take actions that are completely contrary to their needs, and make little to no sense to those around them.  How often have you seen a friend and asked ‘why is she with that horrible man?’, or vice versa. Sometimes they are too close to see what is so blindingly clear to us.  And other times what is clear to us is simply a mirage.  We think it’s the awful woman using the lovely man, when in truth the lovely man is just much better at hiding his crueler intentions”.

I had all sorts of questions about relationships that I couldn’t answer.  Like how do you deal with an “impossible” person?    Do you try and get what you need by changing them?  And in the rare event that you succeed, do you change them into someone you no longer love?     Or if you know in your gut that someone is lying to you, what are your options?  What happens if you decide to trust a totally untrustworthy person?  Is complete belief transformative?      Do people come to embody the virtues or sins we imbue them with?  In matters of love, do you only truly win if you surrender?  Or does the victor just walk away with the cruelest of smiles, as our egos will warn us?  And if some of us are doomed to only fall in love with the wrong person – is that wrong person really the right person, we just can’t recognize it?  As you can see by these questions, in relationships, I am that impossible person.”

Reminiscent of Paul Haggis’ “Crash,” the tales play out in New York, Paris and Rome - three couples who appear to have nothing in common and only tangential connections. But there is always a third person in any relationship -- perhaps not romantically, perhaps you aren't even aware of their existence, but they are there.  At its heart, Third Person is much more than a collection of love stories -- it is a mystery; a puzzle in which truth is revealed in glimpses, and clues are caught by the corner of your eye -- and nothing is truly what it seems.

“Third Person” opens on June 18 in cinemas nationwide from Axinite Digicinema.

Before the video ends, Daniel enthusiastically asks his co-endorser and "Mirabella" star Julia Barretto to take a selfie with him, which was, however, met with a baffled look.

Who is the First B-B-N Nominated PPB All In Housemates?

Viewers should tune in to “Pinoy Big Brother All In” to get to know more about the housemates because for the very first time in the history of “PBB,” viewers get to decide who will remain and who will be kicked out of the famous house.

This means that Big Brother is giving viewers the power to nominate the housemates they want for eviction. To vote to nominate, just text BBNname of housemate and send it to 2331 for Globe, TM, and ABS-CBNmobile subscribers, and to 231 for Smart and Talk ‘N Text subscribers. A SIM may cast only 30 votes per day.

Which housemates will be the first to face the chopping block?

This is just one of the major surprises served up by “PBB All In” over the weekend, including the revelation that host Alex Gonzaga is only a celebrity house guest and not an official housemate.

In the second week of their stay at the famous PBB house, the housemates are looking to step up in their second weekly task called “Selfiemates” after failing their first weekly task. But upon preparation, a misunderstanding sparked between Cess, Vickie, and Chevin, who were assigned to lead, and Michele about the rules of the task.

A minor conflict also came about between Axel and celebrity housemates Alex and Michele over junk food. Other housemates noted that Alex and Michele have become increasingly bossy.

Who else will find themselves in conflict?

Before this, ABS-CBN Head of TV Production Laurenti Dyogi announced that there will be no more regular housemates to be added to the current “PBB All In” roster.

No need for additional regular housemate for now in this season. Marami na sila. No need for now. There will be celeb housemates soon,” he posted on his Twitter account.

Amid controversies surrounding PBB’s format and its housemates, Direk Lauren insisted the housemates were selected based on their personalities and life stories and not on their appearance.

I don’t think we ever got anyone na ‘pangit.’ Every housemate we got was unique and interesting. There are more ‘artistahin’ housemates this season, we don’t see anything wrong with that. Viewers seem to be enjoying the housemates. Our ratings seem to validate that at this point,” he added.

Tune in “Pinoy Big Brother All In” weeknights after “Aquino & Abunda Tonight” on Primetime Bida” and “Pinoy Big Brother All In Uber” after “Moon of Desire” on Kapamilya Gold. Discuss the latest events inside the PBB house with Slater Young and Joj and Jai Agpangan in “Ubertime Online” on pinoybigbrother.com/livechat.

Shailene Woodley from "Divergent" to "The Fault in Our Stars"

In less than a month, the world’s most anticipated love story from the worldwide tearjerker book of the same title – “The Fault In Our Stars” will finally open in Philippine cinemas on June 5.

Already marked on everyone’s calendar who had been touched, moved and affected by the young adult bestselling novel by John Green, June 5 marks the larger-than-life infinites of Hazel and Gus’ (played by Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort) on the big screen.

“The Fault In Our Stars” is the story of two remarkable teenagers who fall in love and embrace life despite the strong odds against them. Both are smart, funny and sarcastic. When they meet at a support group, Hazel Grace Lancaster is instantly smitten with Augustus Waters. The feeling is mutual. Hazel is battling cancer; Augustus is in remission and has been given the all clear from his doctors.  Despite dealing with serious health concerns on a daily basis, health doesn’t dominate life for Augustus and Hazel. Far from it. They are normal teenagers, excited about first love and getting to know each other. It’s clear from the start that there is strong chemistry between this attractive pair. They don’t see eye to eye on everything, but their connection is powerful and they both have a great sense of humor about their circumstances.

Shailene Woodley takes on the role of Hazel Grace Lancaster.  The young star of “Divergent” and “The Descendants” says “The Fault In Our Stars” will forever leave a lasting impression on her.  “It was truly one of the biggest honors of my life to be a part of this project.  Both the film and novel explore the most powerful and universal themes.  The story taught me that all is fleeting, that nothing is guaranteed, and that however long or short a life you live, it is the small moments that mean the most.

I wanted the role so badly I sent John Green a long, long email about how much I loved the book, and how I had to play Hazel,” Woodley continues.“So I sat down with the studio executives and producers and said, ‘I’ll be a P.A. or an extra, just please, please let me be a part of it!’”

Fortunately – for Woodley and the filmmakers – she was able to keep her day job, largely, says Boone, thanks to her spectacular audition. “We read close to 150 actresses for the role, and I saw about 50 of those.  Within ten or fifteen seconds of Shailene’s audition, I knew she was Hazel.  She held up her script pages and just her eyes were peeking over them.  Shailene has these incredible, expressive green eyes, and she could do so much with them.  She was emotionally available and creates such nuanced and subtle work.  I don’t know how she does it; it’s like some kind of magic.”

Woodley’s views on the story, themes and characters mirrored those of her director and the producers.  “The Fault In Our Stars” is a love story about two kids with cancer, but it’s not about cancer,” she explains.“I was so deeply moved by Hazel and Gus, who are able to see things that a lot of us are too busy living our lives to see.”

Woodley worked hard to capture Hazel’s many shadings and complexities.   “Shailene understands Hazel so deeply,” says Green.  “She gives a raw, honest and totally unselfconscious performance.  I’m so grateful for what she’s done with the character.

Hazel is a pretty sarcastic person with a gallows sense of humor,” the author continues. “But she’s always very loving and deeply concerned about the effect her illness has on the people around her, particularly on Hazel’s parents.  She doesn’t want to be what Hazel calls a ‘grenade’ – whose death causes pain and destruction.   I mean, she’s a vegetarian who says to Gus, ‘I want to minimize the casualties.’  She possesses an under-appreciated kind of heroism.”

In addition to capturing Hazel’s many qualities, Woodley was tasked with conveying her physical limitations, chief of which is her need to be hooked up to a cannula – a flexible tube attached to an oxygen tank.  Here, again, Woodley’s research was important.  “I met with a lot of people who had been on oxygen, one of whom said it was like breathing through a straw,’” she comments.

Hazel is somebody who knows who she is and understands at a young age that life is fleeting and that none of it matters really and that we’re all insignificant. She realizes that to waste your time worrying or stressing about anything, or trying to make a mark on the world is just a waste of time, because there’s no way to guarantee anything. So she lives for the small moments and she appreciates those moments. I think it is a huge thing for someone to understand that at such a young age. I found the character very inspiring. And I really related to her sarcasm and dry wit,” concludes Woodley.

Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt's “Edge of Tomorrow” Premieres Simultaneously in London, Paris and New York on May 28

On May 28, the stars of “Edge of Tomorrow” will take part in a groundbreaking worldwide event when, for the first time ever, three fan premieres will be held in three different countries in just one day, “resetting” the red carpet as Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt race the clock to make each event before time runs out.

In “Edge of Tomorrow,” Cruise’s character relives the events of one day over and over in an epic battle to save the world. The story begins as he arrives in London, making that city the perfect place to kick off this global event. All times are local:

• 7:00 a.m. inaugural premiere kicks off on the carpet in London, with a 9:00 a.m. Screening.

The film takes both characters to France, where they face off against an insurmountable army of alien invaders.

• 2:00 p.m. red carpet in Paris, screening at 4:00 p.m.

The final premiere will take the stars back to the U.S.

• 10:00 p.m. red carpet in New York City, with the final screening - on the edge of tomorrow - at 11:59 p.m.

Between cities, Cruise, Blunt and the film’s director, Doug Liman, will interact with fans via social media as they jet from country to country. A contingent of select press will travel to each premiere, covering the events as they unfold.

There will be live stream components for each of the three events. Those fans on the ground can network via social media using #EOTLive.

Oscar® nominee Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt star in Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Village Roadshow Pictures’ sci-fi thriller “Edge of Tomorrow,” under the direction of Doug Liman.

The epic action of “Edge of Tomorrow” unfolds in a near future in which an alien race has hit the Earth in an unrelenting assault, unbeatable by any military unit in the world.

Major William Cage (Cruise) is an officer who has never seen a day of combat when he is unceremoniously dropped into what amounts to a suicide mission. Killed within minutes, Cage now finds himself inexplicably thrown into a time loop - forcing him to live out the same brutal combat over and over, fighting and dying again…and again.

But with each battle, Cage becomes able to engage the adversaries with increasing skill, alongside Special Forces warrior Rita Vrataski (Blunt). And, as Cage and Rita take the fight to the aliens, each repeated encounter gets them one step closer to defeating the enemy.

The international cast also includes Bill Paxton, Brendan Gleeson, Noah Taylor, Kick Gurry, Dragomir Mrsic, Charlotte Riley, Jonas Armstrong, Franz Drameh, Masayoshi Haneda and Tony Way.

Liman directed “Edge of Tomorrow” from a screenplay by Christopher McQuarrie and Jez Butterworth & John-Henry Butterworth, based on the novel entitled All You Need is Kill by Hiroshi Sakurazaka. Erwin Stoff produced, along with Tom Lassally, Jeffrey Silver, Gregory Jacobs and Jason Hoffs. The executive producers are Doug Liman, David Bartis, Joby Harold, Hidemi Fukuhara and Bruce Berman, with Tim Lewis and Kim Winther serving as co-producers.

Opening across the Philippines on June 5, 2014, “Edge of Tomorrow” will be distributed in 2D and 3D in select theatres by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

Why Some Women Choose to Become a Mistress

  Source: ABS-CBNNews.com

Why do some women choose to become mistresses?

The issue of the "legal wife" and the "other woman" is currently a hot topic among Filipinos following the immense popularity of the ABS-CBN primetime series “The Legal Wife,” which tackles infidelity.

Joji Racelis, a family and relationship counselor, explained that mistresses, or the "other woman," usually have a way of justifying what they are doing.

"They often think that this is true love, (that) I am his only pocket of happiness (and) he is married to a witch. Jina-justify nila ang ginagawa nila," Racelis said in an interview on DZMM on Wednesday.

She added that most women who are in this kind of relationship do not realize that they are doing something wrong. "In their minds, they have the right to do this. Sa pagpasok sa sitwasyon na ganun, hindi nila naiisip na mali sila," she said.

Racelis said that women involved in extramarital affairs should not be judged immediately.

"Kailangan ipamulat sa kanila na mali ang ginagawa nila, at ipaalam sa kanila na kailangan nilang respetuhin ang sarili nila. I deserve someone better, and not just be the other woman," she added.

Racelis explained that women in this kind of situation often think that they are not hurting anyone, which isn't really the case.

"Minsan kasi feeling nila wala silang nasasaktan, pero ang totoo, nasasaktan nila 'yung wife, 'yung children, 'yung family niya at nung naging boyfriend niya. And most of all, nasasaktan niya yung sarili niya, kasi parang hindi niya nirerespeto ang sarili niya kasi pumayag siya na pumunta sa ganoong sitwasyon," she explained.

Just like any kind of relationship, a woman involved in an extramarital affair would undergo a grieving process after the relationship ends.

Racelis explained that it is important that the woman should realize her self-worth in order to forgive herself and the man.

"She has to be able to forgive herself and the man for getting her into a situation like that, and to know that she is a good person, and that she has a future. Anong mararamdaman mo kung next year, may third woman na? 'Yung ginawa mo sa wife, gagawin din sa 'yo," she said.

Racelis advised people who have friends involved in extramarital affairs to be more patient and understanding.

"If you are a friend, you cannot immediately tell her that she has to give him up, kasi ibo-block off ka na niya kaagad. We listen to what we want to hear, so kung ganyan ang entrada mo, hindi na siya makikinig sayo," she added.

Instead, friends should listen and look at the situation through the other woman's point of view, and accompany her in looking at the bigger picture.

"The other woman is not a bad person. Most of the time, nabubulagan lang siya. She is also a victim." Racelis said.

She added that there are some women who can be considered "professional mistresses" and are more difficult to deal with.

"May iba namang other women, kina-career na nila. Kinakwartahan nila, tapos sasabihin nila na sandali lang 'to. Mas mahirap kapag ganoon," Racelis said.

According to Racelis, the easiest way to make the other woman realize that she is doing something wrong is to ask her if she wants her future daughter to be a mistress.

"Kung may anak na babae, tanungin mo siya how she would feel if her daughter becomes a mistress. Then tell her to listen to herself," she said.

When asked if an erring husband can still regain his wife's trust, Racelis said it may be difficult but not impossible.

She also advised wives to look into their marriage, and ask their husbands what went wrong .

"Kapag nangangaliwa si mister, kailangan tanungin ni misis kung bakit ganoon kasi there is something missing in the marriage. Baka he found something in the other woman that was missing in the marriage," Racelis said.

However, the wife should also not blame herself for what her husband did to her.

"A wife’s self-esteem should not be totally dependent on how your husband sees you. Your self-esteem should be dependent on how you see yourself. Kapag ayaw sa'yo ng asawa mo, eh ano na lang natira sa 'yo?" she said.

Racelis left a message to all women who are involved in extramarital affairs.

"The other woman is not a bad person, pero 'yung ginagawa niya, nakakasakit ng ibang tao. She should know that she deserves more, and even if she is very happy at the moment, this happiness is very temporary and might end in a painful manner," she said.

She also left this piece of advice for women with cheating husbands.

"For wives, if their husbands start looking for other women, it is a wake-up call that something is missing in the marriage, and it is not necessarily your fault but there might be something missing, and it is time for you to look for it," Racelis said.

The ABS-CBN primetime soap “The Legal Wife” continues to dominate Twitter trends locally as Monica (Angel Locsin) realizes that her husband, Adrian (Jericho Rosales), is cheating on her with her best friend, Nicole (Maja Salvador).

Sarah Lahbati Stars in TV5's Special Mother’s Day Made-for-TV Movie "More Than Words"

A mother who struggles with words… A daughter who has numbed herself from the world’s deafening noise. Fate separated them from one another, but it was also fate that brought them back together. How are they to accept the truth about their bitter past if they are hindered by their own limitations to express and understand?

This Mother’s Day, TV5 brings to every home a compelling story about a mother who transcends all odds to search for her long lost daughter, in the special Studio5 Original Movies presentation “More Than Words”.  Starring Alice Dixson in her most challenging role to date and Sarah Lahbati, who makes her TV comeback via her first project with TV5, “More Than Words” puts together a stellar ensemble of dramatic actors in a heart-moving made-for-TV movie that must be shared by the whole family to cap their Mother’s Day celebration on May 11.

In “More Than Words”, Alice Dixson plays the role of Sabel, an ex-convict who was imprisoned for killing the man who sold off her daughter to a rich family. This daughter grew up to be Emily (Sarah Lahbati), a troubled lass who resorts to loud rock music to deafen the voices of adversity around her. Emily is always in conflict with Vianna (Jackielou Blanco), the woman she had grown to know as her mother. Vianna vents her frustration on Emily because she is unhappy with being a mere voiceless wife to Samuel (Ariel Rivera), a successful businessman who has become a loving father to the child he chose to adopt.

Emily meets Sabel when her bandmate and friend Edwin (Carl Guevarra) recruits her to be a volunteer in teaching and training a community of parolees who are preparing to re-enter society. As a parolee herself, Sabel is part of this community and this is where she uses her untapped culinary skills. Sabel struggles with words, stuttering when she speaks as a result of a congenital speech defect that made her endure a difficult life of being mocked by everyone, including her own mother.

Despite her shyness and fear of rejection, Sabel finds herself opening up to Emily, who is also drawn to this mysterious woman who seems to live in a world of silence. Emily teaches Sabel the basics of reading and writing – something Sabel learns with a passion, for she grew up unschooled and taunted for her difficulty with words. Sabel longs to find her lost daughter, not knowing that the young woman who has been helping her is the one person she has yearned for all throughout her prison ordeal, and more so now that she is about to return to the outside world.

Directed by award-winning director Jon Red, “More Than Words” is bound to prove the acting mettle of Alice Dixson, Sarah Lahbati, Carl Guevarra, Jackielou Blanco, and Ariel Rivera. Catch this tearjerking made-for-TV film on Mother’s Day, May 11, 9:00 p.m., exclusively on TV5.

Lady Gaga's Boyfriend Taylor Kinney is The Other Man in "The Other Woman"

Comedic talent Leslie Mann plays Kate, happily married to Mark (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) ...or so she thinks. It turns out that her husband has been conducting an affair with Carly, (Cameron Diaz) a successful lawyer. The women strike up an unlikely friendship, before making another discovery: this lying rogue has in fact been three-timing them - with the young and very sexy Amber (Kate Upton) in “The Other Woman.”

In the movie, the three plot revenge, and in the process learn about themselves and what they really want in life.  The three women don’t appear to have much in common, other than the philandering womanizer who has been tricking them. They become great pals, however, and decide to teach the lying Mark a few lessons to prove that cheating will not work. But their journey goes way beyond straightforward revenge.  From director Nick Cassavetes, the hilarious film is an original take on friendship and relationships.

A silent yet supportive ally in their blossoming friendship is Kate’s brother Phil, played by Taylor Kinney.  Taylor Kinney (“Zero Dark Thirty”) rounds out the starring cast, as Kate’s brother, Phil.  Phil, in addition to having a really nice beach house, is the opposite of Mark; he’s an honest and good guy.  Phil at first is disturbed when the ladies seem to be obsessed with stalking Mark, but he and Carly soon develop a growing attraction.   Once Carly and Kate figure out that there is another woman filling in the unexplained spots in Mark’s calendar, they hop in the car to track her down in the Hamptons where Phil’s beach house is located.  They establish headquarters at Kate’s brother Phil’s place, which is a beach house with a bachelor’s vibe on the ocean in East Quogue.

“The Other Woman” balances its broad comedy and emotional truth with a bit of fantasy and high glamour – or as director Nick Cassavetes dubs it, the film is “candy-dipped.”  In addition to the costumes by Patricia Field and her team of chic New York stylists, the film was lucky to have acclaimed French cinematographer Robert Fraisse on board.  Fraisse is an Academy Award® nominee for the Jean-Jacques Annaud film “The Lover.”  He also created the lush images in Cassavetes’ romance “The Notebook” and worked with him again on “Alpha Dog.”

The exclusive Quogue Beach Club where Phil’s beach house is allowed filming on its pristine white beach for a pivotal moment when Carly and Kate spy on and then chase bikini-clad Amber.   After wrapping in the Hamptons, cast and crew packed up their gear and hopped on a flight to the Caribbean.  As producer Julie Yorn recalls:  “The original draft of the script didn’t have the journey to the Bahamas section, and it felt like it was lacking a big, action-oriented piece at the end. Nick came up with this idea that the ladies travel to the island paradise to catch Mark committing fraud. So we get to have the great moments of them chasing him and having to go on an adventure together.”

Taylor Kinney  currently stars as Kelly Severide, a brash Lieutenant with an unflappable veneer who is fighting his own demons in NBC's one-hour drama, "Chicago Fire."  On television, Kinney has a variety of credits including a series regular role in NBC's 'Trauma" and the recurring role of 'Mason Lockwood' on "The Vampire Diaries."  He starred in Michael Patrick King's NBC pilot "A Mann's World opposite Don Johnson and has appeared on such shows as "Breakout Kings",  "Castle," "Shameless," "Rizzoli & Isles," "Bones" and "CSI: NY."  Kinney was also featured in the telefilm "Five," a project produced by Jennifer Aniston, Demi Moore and Alicia Keyes and was seen in the web series "Dating Rules From My Future Self." Big screen credits include Kathryn Bigelow's "Zero Dark Thirty,” the Marty Papazian-directed independent feature "Least Among Saints" and the short film "Prodigal."

“The Other Woman” is now showing in theaters nationwide from 20th Century Fox to be distributed by Warner Bros.

Pokwang Reveals Biggest Regret as a Single Mom

Comedienne Pokwang lost her five-year-old son due to cancer while she was working abroad. This is why she values the time she spends with her 17-year-old daughter Ria Mae despite her hectic schedule.

When she was in high school, the first and last time I went with her to school was on her graduation day. I missed many big events in her life. But she knows that I’m making up for those times and that all my hard work is for her,” shares Pokwang in the Mothers’ Day special of “Tapatan Ni Tunying” airing this Thursday (May 8).

As her daughter turns 18 this year, Pokwang has picked up helpful pointers for raising children.

If your kid is a girl, always kiss and hug her, and make her feel that she is your only baby. With that, she won’t enter into a romantic relationship early. For a boy, be his best friend and always remind him to moderate doing whatever they’re into.”

“Maleficent” Character Photos and Descriptions

Starting May 28, Philippine audiences will find themselves face-to-face with Disney’s most iconic villain “Maleficent” on an exciting adventure through a fascinating world that will unveil more about the film's characters than they ever imagined. But before that, let's meet the characters up close and find out their motivations.

Maleficent (Angelina Jolie) benevolently protects her home - the forest kingdom over which she presides - and all the creatures that dwell there, but a harsh betrayal turns Maleficent’s pure heart stone cold. Driven by relentless revenge and a fierce passion to protect her land from invaders, the now vindictive and ruthless Maleficent places an irrevocable curse on the human king’s newborn baby, Aurora.

Stefan (Sharlto Copley) is a childhood friend of Maleficent’s who comes from the human kingdom outside of the forest Maleficent calls home. Over time Stefan becomes consumed with his ambition to be King and will stop at nothing to achieve his goal.

Diaval (Sam Riley) is Maleficent’s loyal servant, who, on her command, can take on different forms to suit her purposes. He serves as Maleficent’s conscience and has strong beliefs, which he is not afraid to act upon.

Aurora (Elle Fanning) is a curious and thoughtful child who develops a bond with nature that rivals only Maleficent’s. But as she grows, Aurora is caught in the middle of the seething conflict between the forest kingdom she has grown to love and the human kingdom that holds her legacy.

The Flower Pixies. The three inept Flower Pixies are charged with caring for Aurora until her sixteenth birthday. Knotgrass (Imelda Staunton) is a tangled knot of bad humor, bossy and a superior to the other two Pixies. Flittle (Lesley Manville) is a blue Flower Pixie. She always has butterflies flying around her head. Thistlewit (Juno Temple), the youngest of the Pixies, is always giddy, playful and childlike.

King Henry (Kenneth Cranham). Before the end of his reign, conniving King Henry is determined to add the forest kingdom that Maleficent protects to his conquests at any cost in order to reap the benefits of the treasures it contains.

Princess Leila (Hannah New).  King Henry’s daughter Princess Leila loyally performs her duty as princess by marrying Stefan and bearing his daughter, Aurora.

Prince Phillip (Brenton Thwaites). Handsome Prince Phillip happens upon teenage Aurora as he is traveling to the castle to meet the king. He promises that they will soon meet again—it is love at first sight.

Opening across the Philippines on May 28, 2014, “Maleficent” is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures International through Columbia Pictures.

ABS-CBN Remains the Most-Watched TV Network in the Philippines

More Filipinos nationwide tuned in to the high-caliber programs of ABS-CBN in April as it maintained its leadership over rival TV networks and hit an average audience share of 44%, or nine points ahead of GMA’s 35%, based on data from Kantar Media.

Kantar Media uses a nationwide panel size of 2,609 urban and rural homes that represent 100% of the total Philippine TV viewing population, while the other ratings data supplier AGB Nielsen reportedly has only 1,980 homes based solely in urban areas that represent only 57% of the Philippine TV viewing population.

ABS-CBN also remained undisputed in key territories across the country such as in Balance Luzon (all areas in Luzon outside Mega Manila), where ABS-CBN scored an average audience share of 46% vs GMA’s 37%. The network continued to lead the Visayas and Mindanao garnering 57% and 54% respectively, or twice GMA’s 26% and 27%.

Data also show that ABS-CBN sustained its primetime (6PM-12MN) supremacy with an average audience share of 48%, or 15 points higher than the 33% of GMA.

The primetime block is the most important part of the day when most Filipinos watch TV and advertisers put a larger chunk of their investment in to reach more consumers effectively.

Aside from leading in primetime, ABS-CBN’s early afternoon (12NN-3PM) and late afternoon (3PM-6PM) programming blocks climbed up in the previous month. From 43% in March, the audience share of ABS-CBN’s early afternoon block moved up to 45% in April, while its late afternoon block increased four points higher from 43% to 47%. Noontime show “It’s Showtime” on weekdays continues to defeat rival “Eat Bulaga” (11.1%) with an average national TV rating of 15.9%. Afternoon offerings “Meteor Garden” (15.3%) and “Moon of Desire” (14.5%), meanwhile, have consistently been the top raters in their timeslot.

ABS-CBN clinched 13 spots on list of top 15 most-watched programs nationwide in April topped by “Dyesebel” (29.5%). Other Kapamilya programs on the list were “Wanspanataym” (28.9%), “Ikaw Lamang” (27.8%), “Maalaala Mo Kaya” (27.7%), “TV Patrol” (25.8%), “The Legal Wife” (23.5%), “Rated K” (22.5%), “Bet On Your Baby” (22.2%), “Home Sweetie Home” (20.8), “Mirabella” (18.2%), “Pinoy Big Brother All In” and “Be Careful With My Heart  (17.8%), “Gandang Gabi Vice” and “Goin’ Bulilit (17.4%), and “It’s Showtime” on Saturdays (17%).

The kick-off of the newest season phenomenal reality show “Pinoy Big Brother” last April 27 dubbed “Pinoy Big Brother All In” recorded a national TV rating of 20.5% defeating its rival program “Imbestigador” with 10.9%. Meanwhile, “The Biggest Loser Pinoy Edition Doubles” finale titled “Ang Bigating Pagtatapos” aired last April 26 registered 19.1%, beating its competition “Celebrity Bluff” that rated 14.2%.
