Mystery Girl Steals Lips-to-Lips Kiss from Daniel Padilla

Source: Mb.com.ph

A mystery girl, some believed to be a die-hard fan, pulled a fast kiss on Daniel Padilla's lips in front of other fans while singing Rey Valera's "Kumusta Ka" on ASAP 19 as part of his promotion for upcoming birthday concert at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

Quickly after the incident, the #RespectDJslips hashtag became the number one topic on Twitter Philippine trends. It also landed fifth on the site's Worldwide Trends.

“Grabe naman talaga. #RespectDJsLips,” said one.

“Ang kay BERNARDO ay kay BERNARDO!” added another, referring to Daniel's onscreen partner Kathryn Bernardo.

Another called out, “TO ALL FANS OUT THERE! #RespectDJsLips PLEASE?”

Yet another commented, "CHEEEH!!!! insecure lang kayo.. if i know you'll do the same thing if there's a chance.. mga epokrita!!! hahaha."

Then again, there are those who deem the reaction excessive, if pointless.

Believing “what's done cannot be undone”, one said, “I think KathNiel fans should accept what happened and leave the girl alone. Masyadong OA eh. #RespectDJsLips.”

Warner Bros. Pictures has just revealed the teaser trailer for its upcoming teen, supernatural drama “If I Stay” starring Chloe Grace Moretz.

Watch the trailer below:

Based on Gayle Forman's young adult bestseller, "If I Stay" is the story of the gifted classical musician Mia (Moretz) and her boyfriend, Adam (Jamie Blackley), an up and coming indie-rock star. Torn between two paths in life, her art or her relationship, Mia is forced to make an even starker choice between life and death when she is caught in a fatal car accident.

With her family decimated, Mia lies comatose in a hospital — having an out-of-body experience. She watches as she’s told that living or dying “is all up to you; whatever fight you got in you, gotta pull it out now.”

“If I Stay” is directed by R.J. Cutler (“The September Issue”) from a script by Shauna Cross (“Whip It”).

"X-Men: Days of Future Past" Newest Trailer

For the first time, the mutant worlds of the first three X-Men movies and the new, younger versions of our heroes from 2011’s successful First Class are on screen in one film. With Bryan Singer back directing, "X-Men: Days of Future Past" promises an adventure like nothing we have seen before.

The future is dark for the heroes of the X-Men saga in “Days of Future Past.” A years-long world conflict between humans and mutants has taken its toll on their numbers, and now a scant few remain, including Professor Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart), Erik “Magneto” Lehnsherr (Ian McKellen), Kitty Pryde (Ellen Page), and Wolverine (Hugh Jackman). Driven to near extinction by the technological terrors unleashed by Bolivar Trask (Peter Dinklage), the team forms a desperate plan: time travel.

“X-Men: Days of Future Past” (3D) will open May 21 in Phils. theaters nationwide from 20th Century Fox to be distributed by Warner Bros.

Offering a new take on the origin of the classic characters created by J.M. Barrie, the film follows the story of an orphan who is spirited away to the magical Neverland. There, he finds both fun and dangers, and ultimately discovers his destiny - to become the hero who will be forever known as Peter Pan.

The film stars Oscar® nominee Hugh Jackman (“Les Misérables”) as Blackbeard; Garrett Hedlund (“Inside Llewyn Davis”) as Hook; Oscar® nominee Rooney Mara (“The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo”) as Tiger Lily; Adeel Akhtar (“The Dictator”) as Smee; and newcomer Levi Miller as Peter.

Amanda Seyfried (“Les Misérables”) rounds out the cast as Mary, alongside Jack Charles (“Mystery Road”) as The Chief/Tiger Lily’s father; Taejoo Na (“The Kick”) as Kwahu; Nonso Anozie (“Son of God,” “Atonement”) as Bishop; Kathy Burke (“Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy”) as Mother Barnabas; Kurt Egyiawan (“Skyfall”) as Murray; Lewis MacDougall (UK TV’s “In the Name of the Children”) as Nibs; and newcomer Leni Zieglmeier as Wendy Darling.

Wright is directing the as-yet-untitled Peter Pan adventure from a screenplay by Jason Fuchs. Greg Berlanti, Paul Webster and Sarah Schechter are producing, with Tim Lewis serving as executive producer.

Filming will take place at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden. The film is set for a worldwide release on July 17, 2015.

Pinoy Big Brother All-In Housemates Revealed

Follow the lives of the newest batch of housemates inside PBB House HERE.

An all-in package of exciting new experiences, twists, and surprises is set to engage viewers with the much-anticipated comeback of the phenomenal reality show “Pinoy Big Brother” this Sunday (April 27).

The newest edition titled “PBB All In” will feature housemates aged 15 to 30 years old who will live together inside the famous “PBB” house and will face tough challenges in 100 days.

It will be hosted by Toni Gonzaga, Bianca Gonzalez, John Prats, Robi Domingo, and newest addition, Alex Gonzaga.

But even before the grand kick-off on Sunday night, some housemates will be introduced to the viewers in “ASAP 19” and “Buzz ng Bayan.”

Viewers can never really expect anything because what happens inside the ‘PBB’ house is always unexpected. We’re just as excited as them. We look forward to what will happen, the new tasks, the clash of different personalities,” said Toni.

Toni has hosted “PBB” since its first regular season, but remains excited, knowing that the show always has something new to offer.

I was only 21 when I joined ‘PBB.’ It’s no longer a job for me; it’s already my second family. I’ve matured and grown not only as a host but as a person,” she added.

Bianca, like Toni, has been a face of the show for several seasons. “The challenge for us hosts is to keep people interested and keep it relevant. It gets easier in the sense that we know what the program is all about, but challenging in the sense that we should please people since they’ve already seen everything,” shared Bianca.

We’ve already had ten editions, so somehow, other housemates think they know how to play the game. With the new season, we want to bring back the rawness from season one and the genuine mix of housemates,” stated Bianca, who has hosted “PBB” since its first teen edition.

Bianca will again be joining John and Robi, along with newbie Alex in “Uber,” which will air on weekday afternoons on Kapamilya Gold.

John quipped, “We were surprised by our chemistry in ‘Uber.’ We took on certain roles that were developed only while we were doing the show. Our personalities really jived. That they’re bringing back ‘Uber’ only means that we did something successful.

Robi attributes their chemistry to them being former housemates who can relate to the goings-on inside the “PBB” house. Robi was the second placer in the show’s second teen edition, while Bianca and John joined its first celebrity edition.

Other people won’t ever understand what the housemates go through, only ex-housemates can. It’s always wonderful to bring back our memories inside the house,” Robi said.

Alex, meanwhile, shared she is beyond enthusiastic to finally be a part of “PBB” especially that she’s been a fan of the show since its first season.

I’m happy that I’m part of PBB’s return. I enjoy watching it because as a person, I’m a natural ‘chismosa,’ so before, I would always ask Ate Toni what happened in the confession room, what wasn’t shown on TV,” Alex revealed.

Viewers and netizens are also expected to get even more involved in the show with its highly interactive components on social media.

“PBB All In” made history by staging Philippine television’s first ever multi-platform auditions, drawing thousands of aspiring housemates in its on-ground auditions in different parts of the country, online auditions, and the fast track option through ABS-CBNmobile.

TV5 Airs Live and Full Coverage of Blessed Pope John XXIII and Pope John Paul II Dual Canonization this Divine Mercy Sunday

In solidarity with the Filipino people and the rest of the Catholic faith, TV5 defers from its usual programming this Sunday to give up-to-latest news on the canonization of Blessed Popes John XXIII and John Paul II straight from the Vatican.

'The Canonization: John XXIII and John Paul II ' will be aired LIVE from 4:00 to 6:00 pm on TV5 and from 3:30 to 6:00 pm on Aksyon TV, before returning to usual programming by 7:30 pm. New5's veteran news anchor Erwin Tulfo will report LIVE from the Vatican, while Cheri Mercado  and Paolo Bediones man the studio from News5's headquarters in Reliance.

Blessed Pope John Paul II (Karol Józef Wojtyła) is known to have a special place in his heart for the Filipino people. Known also as “The Traveling Pope”, he visited the Philippines twice: first in 1981, and another in 1995 on the occasion of World Youth Day – a privilege enjoyed only by few other countries. The latter was attended by five million people, proving that the love was mutual.

Blessed John XXIII, meanwhile, is known by many as “The Good Pope”. During his pontificate, he called for the Second Vatican Council in order to address the issues faced by the Church in the modern world. Vatican II institutionalized changes that reshaped the face of Catholicism, including the use of the vernacular in the liturgy, a stronger emphasis on ecumenical dialogues, and a new approach to the world.

On April 30, 2000, John Paul II declared the second Sunday of Easter as the Divine Mercy Sunday, emphasizing the devotion to the Divine Mercy of Christ. The beloved pontiff, who died on April 2005 on the vigil of the Divine Mercy Sunday, was beatified on Divine Mercy Sunday, May 1, 2011, by his successor, Pope Benedict XVI.

The ceremony to sainthood of Blessed Popes John XXIII and John Paul II will be celebrated by Pope Francis this Sunday, April 27, 2014, and the Filipino people will again be part of this momentous event through TV5’s live coverage.

"Tropa Mo Ko Unli" Dubai and Abu Dhabi Invasion Airs on TV5 this Saturday

The wacky cast of the TV5’s weekly gag show Tropa Mo Ko Unli recently brought a storm of laughter and delightful memories to kapatids in the Middle East with two successful shows held in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, which were attended by a jam-packed crowd of excited Overseas Filipinos including the Philippine Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, Grace Relucio-Princesa.

Set to air in two special episodes starting this Saturday, the Tropa Mo Ko Unli Middle East invasion highlights the signature comedic antics and riotous humor of the unli-fun cast led by Ogie Alcasid, Gelli de Belen, Alwyn Uytingco, Tuesday Vargas, Wendell Ramos, Empoy, Ritz Azul, Edgar Allan Guzman, Valeen Montenegro, with special guest Iwa Moto.

Friends and relatives of Overseas Filipinos in the Middle East will surely be delighted to see how our kapatids in Abu Dhabi and Dubai were at the edge of their seats most especially during the performances of their favorite Tropa Mo Ko Unli segments, such as Singing Biik, Corny Maybe, Laysa May Toyo, and Paminta 101.

Both live shows had the whole audience in a celebratory mood, especially when some of the cast members went off the stage for a number of surprise performances. The female audience could not get their hands off both Wendell Ramos and Edgar Allan Guzman, as both hunks serenaded them. Meanwhile, Tuesday Vargas’ infectious personality kept everyone in high spirits as she threw impromptu spiels and jokes with some male audience members. To cap it all off, Ogie Alcasid treated everyone to a mini-concert by belting out some of his classic and all-time favorite hits.

TV5 International President and CEO Claro Carmelo  Ramirez shared, “For the past 3 years, we have brought TV5’s best programs to every Filipino household in this region, and we wanted to take this opportunity to make their viewing experience even more enjoyable and memorable by bringing to Dubai and Abu Dhabi some of TV5’s most sought-after and popular stars for the viewers to meet in person. This is just our little gesture of saying thank you to all our Kapatids in the Middle East for making this very important company milestone a reality.”

In addition, viewers should definitely look out for the signature spoof segment of funnyman Empoy as, this time, he takes on the popular Hollywood blockbuster film 300: Rise of an Empire and puts his own, unique spin to it. The special segment, entitled 300: Rise on an Empoy, was especially shot on location in one of Middle East’s picturesque deserts and will definitely be one the must-watch segments of the episode.

The special Middle Eastern summer invasion of Tropa Mo Ko Unli will premiere this Saturday, April 26 at 7:15pm and will continue on May 3 at the same time, airing only on TV5.

Can The Legal Wife Be Friends with The Other Woman?

Cheating – relationships’ most unwanted factor the world over has never been been this poignantly real and funny in the upcoming movie “The Other Woman” starred in by Hollywood’s haute women – Cameron Diaz, Leslie Mann and Kate Upton.

Carly Whitten (Diaz) is a tough-as-nails New York lawyer with a strict set of rules when it comes to men and relationships. When she meets Mark King (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), she lets her guard down and begins to fall for him. A spontaneous, surprise visit to King’s Connecticut home goes awry when Carly discovers that Mark has a wife, Kate (Mann).  A devoted super-housewife, Kate is shocked that Mark has been cheating on her, and Carly is furious to learn that Mark is a married man. But instead of directing their outrage toward one another, Carly and Kate slowly begin to bond over their joint enemy, and, with help from Amber (Upton), a third woman caught up in Mark’s lies, they conspire to give him what he deserves.  As their strategies become more ingenious, their bond grows stronger.

Diaz was immediately attracted to the story and its fresh look at how women relate to one another in the face of unusual circumstances: “I thought it was such an interesting concept.  When Carly realizes that Mark is married, she doesn’t want to have anything to do with him or the wife.  But here’s this other woman, Kate, who is asking for her help, and there’s no way she cannot help her.

I just thought that is a beautiful thing,” Diaz continues.  “It’s about friendship and about women. What I also loved about the script is that it wasn’t man-bashing and it wasn’t about revenge. It’sabout a journey that these women take with one another to learn about themselves.  The three women’s lives are so different that their paths would have never crossed under normal circumstances. And because they have this thing in common, they come together and become a team.  What they do to Mark is more to reveal who he is rather than to be vengeful on him.  I thought all of those things were unique and a lot of fun to bring to life.

Leslie Mann, who portrays suburban über-homemaker Kate, has, says producer Julie Yorn, “this archetypal suburban wife thing with just a little pathos under the surface that could come undone.  We always thought there was an unexpected quality to this tightly wound character, and Leslie really made that come alive.”

Mann describes Kate as “living in a bubble. She’s learned one way of doing things, and it’s all about serving her husband and making him happy.  I think she’s lost herself in that process.  So when Kate finds out he’s cheating, her whole world falls apart until she finds these women who help her grow and rebuild herself.”

Writer Melissa Stack notes the important differences between Mann’s Kate and Diaz’ Carly:  “Kate is Carly’s opposite; she’s an outer softy and an inner hard ass.  It’s that journey where both Kate and Carly are getting in touch with the inner part of themselves that has maybe been a little bit swept to the side.”

It can never be predicted if two actors will have good chemistry on or off screen, but the Diaz-Mann dynamic worked from the start. The two actresses found a groove and were able to improvise and make each other laugh from the first day of filming.

Mann explains their synergy by comparing it to music: “There are certain people who have an ear for comedy. It’s like a song and a rhythm, so when you’re doing comedy, if the other person isn’t hearing the same thing as you are, it just lays there and dies. Cameron hears the same thing as I do.  We can pick up where the other one lets off and it’s like a good give-and-take.  And Kate Upton has that, too.  She knows how to play things and she’s super-smart.

For the role of Amber, the third woman deceived by Mark, Yorn considered a number of actresses, but in securing Kate Upton, the producer ended up where she started.  Yorn explains: “Initially, we used Kate as the loose prototype of the character, never thinking we were actually going to get her.  But she came in and she was just so disarming.  The key to that role was that you have to hate her when you first see her, at least a little bit, and then love her when you get to know her.  She fits the bill so well for both of those situations.”

Stack marveled at the similarities between the character Amber and Kate Upton the person.  “Kate is such a bombshell but she’s very sweet,” says the screenwriter. “Kate has this lightness and a kind way about her that is perfect for Amber. That was always who we all hoped Amber would be.”

Upton enjoyed her first major acting role under the tutelage of Diaz and Mann.  “I am so lucky to have one of my first movies to be with Leslie and Cameron,” she says.  “They’re so inspiring.”

“The Other Woman” is a very funny and authentic film examining the value of female camaraderie that will open on May 7 in theaters from 20th Century Fox to be distributed by Warner Bros.

“Four Sisters and a Wedding” Premieres on Cinema One this Sunday

Filipino comedy-drama film “Four Sisters and a Wedding,” launched as part of Star Cinema’s 20th anniversary is finally reaching out to Pinoy families everywhere as it makes its Philippine television premiere this Sunday (April 27) on Cinema One.

“Four Sisters and a Wedding” features Star Cinema’s most prominent young female actresses, namely Bea Alonzo, Toni Gonzaga, Angel Locsin, and Shaina Magdayao; who all received Best Supporting Actress awards at the recent Gawad PASADO Awards for their respective performances in the film.

The four play four sisters–all already having grown up and even apart through distance and careers. After having formed their own lives, they are once again brought together when their youngest brother (Enchong Dee) decides to get married. Heading home from different places, some even countries apart, the sisters get together once more to meet their youngest brother’s wife-to-be. When that finally happens, first impressions lead them to unite under the plot of putting a stop to the marriage–but in this process, they achieve much more than that and they realize the unshakable value of what it means to be a family.

Directed by Cathy Garcia-Molina, “Four Sisters and a Wedding” also stars Sam Milby, Coney Reyes, Angeline Quinto, Carmi Martin, Boboy Garovillo, Janus del Prado, Bernard Palanca, Vangie Labalan, Joy Viado, Cecil Paz, and Samantha Faytaren.

Apart from winning in the Gawad PASADO Awards, “Four Sisters and a Wedding” also received ten other nominations in the Star Awards for Movies.

Don’t miss the television premiere of “Four Sisters and a Wedding,” hitting small screens this Sunday (April 27) at 8:00pm with a replay airing on Monday (April 28) at 9:00pm on the country’s number one cable channel, Cinema One (SkyCable channel 56). Warner Bros. Announces The Hobbit Final Film "The Battle of the Five Armies"

Warner Bros Pictures, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures and New Line Cinema jointly announced today that the much-anticipated final film in Peter Jackson’s trilogy adaptation of the enduringly popular masterpiece The Hobbit, by J.R.R. Tolkien, has now been titled “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies.” The film, previously titled “The Hobbit: There and Back Again,” will be released worldwide (including the Philippines) on December 17, 2014.

Peter Jackson stated, “Our journey to make ‘The Hobbit’ Trilogy has been in some ways like Bilbo's own, with hidden paths revealing their secrets to us as we've gone along. ‘There and Back Again’ felt like the right name for the second of a two-film telling of the quest to reclaim Erebor, when Bilbo’s arrival there, and departure, were both contained within the second film. But with three movies, it suddenly felt misplaced - after all, Bilbo has already arrived ‘there’ in the ‘The Desolation of Smaug.’ When we did the premiere trip late last year, I had a quiet conversation with the studio about the idea of revisiting the title. We decided to keep an open mind until a cut of the film was ready to look at. We reached that point last week, and after viewing the movie, we all agreed there is now one title that feels completely appropriate. And so: ‘The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies’ it is.”

“The Hobbit” Trilogy tells a continuous story set in Middle-earth 60 years before “The Lord of the Rings,” which Academy Award®-winning filmmaker Peter Jackson and his team brought to the big screen in the blockbuster trilogy that culminated with the Oscar®-winning “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.”

Ian McKellen returns as Gandalf the Grey, with Martin Freeman in the central role of Bilbo Baggins, and Richard Armitage as Thorin Oakenshield. The international ensemble cast is led by Evangeline Lilly, Lee Pace, Luke Evans, Benedict Cumberbatch, Stephen Fry, Cate Blanchett, Ian Holm, Christopher Lee, Hugo Weaving, Ken Stott, James Nesbitt, and Orlando Bloom.  The film also stars, in alphabetical order, John Bell, Manu Bennett, Jed Brophy, Adam Brown, John Callen, Billy Connolly, Ryan Gage, Mark Hadlow, Peter Hambleton,  Stephen Hunter, William Kircher, Lawrence Makoare, Sylvester McCoy, Graham McTavish, Dean O’Gorman, Mikael Persbrandt, Aidan Turner

The screenplay for “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies” is by Fran Walsh & Philippa Boyens & Peter Jackson & Guillermo del Toro, based on the novel by J.R.R. Tolkien. Jackson also produced the film, together with Carolynne Cunningham, Zane Weiner and Fran Walsh. The executive producers are Alan Horn, Toby Emmerich, Ken Kamins and Carolyn Blackwood, with Philippa Boyens and Eileen Moran serving as co-producers.

The creative behind-the-scenes team is led by director of photography Andrew Lesnie, production designer Dan Hennah, editor Jabez Olssen and composer Howard Shore. The costumes are designed by Richard Taylor, Bob Buck and Ann Maskrey. Taylor is also overseeing the design and production of armour, weapons, creatures and special makeup, which are once again being made by the award-winning Weta Workshop. Oscar®-winning visual effects studio Weta Digital is again handling the visual effects for the film, led by senior visual effects supervisor Joe Letteri. The hair and makeup designer is Peter Swords King. The conceptual designers are John Howe and Alan Lee. Eric Saindon is the visual effects supervisor, with David Clayton serving as animation supervisor.

Under Jackson’s direction, “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies” was shot in 3D 48 frames-per-second and will be released in High Frame Rate 3D (HFR 3D) in select theaters, other 2D and 3D formats, and IMAX®. Production took place at Jackson’s own facilities in Miramar, Wellington, and on location around New Zealand. Post production took place at Park Road Post Production in Wellington.

New Line Cinema and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures Present a Wingnut Films Production, “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies.” As with the first two films in the Trilogy, “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” and “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug,” the final film is a production of New Line Cinema and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures (MGM), with New Line managing production. Warner Bros. Pictures is handling worldwide theatrical distribution, with select international territories as well as all international television distribution being handled by MGM. www.thehobbit.com

Andrew Garfield Creates a "Spider-Man" Like No Other in the Movie's Second Installment

Returning to the role of Peter Parker is Andrew Garfield, the BAFTA-winning actor who creates a new vision for the role in Columbia Pictures' “The Amazing Spider-Man 2.”

It’s hard to be Peter Parker, but it’s great to be Spider-Man,” says Garfield. “As Peter Parker, he has all of the same problems that we all have – girl problems, money problems. But when he puts on the suit, it’s a massive release. He can breathe. Spider-Man always knows the right thing to do – he’s a vessel for good, heroic energy and saving people. He takes joy and pleasure in it, and a playfulness comes out of him.”

Producer Avi Arad says that the role is quite complicated. Spider-Man is capable of so much that Peter Parker couldn’t do, but the heart of the character is always Peter. “Stan Lee and Steve Ditko created an incredibly complex character – the actor basically has to play two roles, Peter Parker and Spider-Man,” says Arad. “But Andrew can do it all – he’s the best actor I’ve seen in years. He has all of the humanity, he can create the conflict and the drama, he can even do all of the stunts that we’ll let him do. He’s such an amazing young man. To top it all off, Andrew has both a mental and a physical sense of humor, which is the true embodiment of Spider-Man.

Garfield was eager to return to the role for many reasons – not least of which is the fact that he’s a huge fan of the character. “I know how important it is to be a fan. I know what Spider-Man can do for kids – and for people who aren’t kids anymore,” he says. “For anyone who encounters the character, who has an affinity for him, it’s so reassuring when it’s done right. No matter what problems you have in your life, Spider-Man is there as evidence that you can get through it – because Peter Parker has all the problems of a kid, and he’s getting through it, too. He’s reaching out his hand to tell you it’ll be okay.

The actor sees Spider-Man as the ultimate protector of the underdog. “He has an overdeveloped sense of responsibility and heroic impulse, but he has this deeply felt sense of justice,” Garfield explains. “That’s not something you can learn – you’re born that way.”

Garfield says that the filmmakers opened up the character much more in this film – harking back to the original characterization in the comic books. “Peter Parker trips over his own two feet, but Spider-Man can trip anybody up. He’s a trickster,” says Garfield. “One of the defining characteristics of the trickster is they turn their enemies’ weaknesses against themselves – rather than throwing punches and kicks, they are making their opponents beat themselves.

To pull it off, Garfield trained and practiced and studied the masters. “Cal McCrystal was our ‘Clown Deviser’ – our name for a physical comedy consultant. There were certain scenes, certain ideas, that came directly out of conversations that I’d had with Cal. And I love Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton – I admire that skill. We had an opportunity to explore that as Spider-Man has the same kind of physical foolishness.”

Still, even as Spider-Man has to face the prospect of multiple villains uniting against him, Peter is sorting out what he’s going to do about the most important part of his life – Gwen Stacy. Peter hasn’t forgotten the promise he made to Captain Stacy, but that’s a promise he just can’t keep. “Peter and Gwen are giving it a go,” says Garfield. “For better or worse, Peter has an overdeveloped sense of responsibility. It’s hard for him to live with himself by breaking that promise, but impossible for him to live without her. He’s dealing with the guilt of a broken promise, but there’s also a destiny between them that they can’t deny. He’s a torn, confused young man trying to figure out the best thing to do.”

Opening across the Philippines on April 30 in IMAX 3D, Digital 3D and 2D formats, “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” is distributed by Columbia Pictures, local office of Sony Pictures Releasing International.

TV5 Probes on the Mystery of Philippine Medical Plants this Saturday on "Yaman Ng Bayan"

This Saturday, “Yaman ng Bayan”, News5’s special monthly documentary series, gives an in-depth look into the country’s abundance of medicinal plants and how these can be a major source of wealth for the Philippines, especially with a steadily growing world-wide demand for such.

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) estimated that back in 2007, the natural and herbal industry earned about $600 million, and this continues to grow by the year. In addition, the World Health Organization (WHO) also conducted a study that showed 80% of the world’s population is dependent on various herbal medicines.

In the Philippines, however, although it is known to have about 1,500 different species of plants classified as medicinal, only 10 have been approved as such by the Department of Health (DOH).

News5 Chief Luchi Cruz Valdes will be hosting this episode of “Yaman ng Bayan” as she also features some of the individuals who attest to being healed by various herbal plants. Viewers will also be given a closer look into the science behind plants, as local scientists share firsthand how discovering new plants can lead not only to being the key to modern day diseases but can also be the ultimate cure to poverty in the Philippines.

In addition, viewers will be given an exclusive introduction to the Chamber of Herbal Industries of the Philippines, Inc. (CHIPI), which is an association that has over 50 of the leading companies in the Philippine natural and herbal industry, and which accounts for 70% of the local natural and herbal market in the Philippines.

The third episode of “Yaman ng Bayan”, entitled Halamang Gamot, will air this Saturday, April 26, 10:15pm on TV5.

May The 4th Be With You on Manila's "Star Wars" Day

The Philippines will join Star Wars fans all over the world (and galaxies far, far away) in celebrating Star Wars Day on May the 4th, 2014.  Everyone is encouraged to greet anyone, `May the 4th Be With You’ or don their favorite Star Wars costume, speak Yoda-ese, watch a Star Wars movie, hum John Williams’ unmistakable score or wield their lightsabers, with matching voice-generated sound effects.
But for those who want more officially-organized events, they can troop down to Resorts World Manila in Pasay on May 3 and 4 where the Philippine Outpost of 501st Legion (an international organization of Star Wars fans who wear the costumes of the villains) has lined-up interactive festivities for the public and fans alike.

Starting at 4PM on May 3, members of the 501st Legion will hold a costume parade inside the mall, to be followed by public picture-taking opportunities – here’s your chance to have your photos taken with Darth Vader, the stormtroopers and other Star Wars baddies.

There will also be contests such as “Bring-Me Star Wars Items” game, a costume contest for kids and a trivia quiz for teens and adults. A display of Star Wars collectibles from Sideshow and Hottoys will likewise run from May 1 to 15.

Meanwhile, you may be asking, why is May the 4th Called Star Wars Day?

Say “May the 4th Be With You” out loud and you’ll hear the pun that Star Wars fans worldwide have turned into a rallying cry to proclaim their love of the saga. It’s the worldwide day to say “May the Force be with you” to all, and celebrate the beloved Star Wars story that binds our galaxy together.

One of the earliest known records of “May the 4th” used in popular culture is in 1979, as described here by author Alan Arnold while he was chronicling the making of The Empire Strikes Back for Lucasfilm:

Friday, May 4th

Margaret Thatcher has won the election and become Britain’s first woman prime minister. To celebrate their victory her party took a half page of advertising space in the London Evening News. This message, referring to the day of victory, was “May the Fourth Be With You, Maggie. Congratulations,” further proof of the extent to which Star Wars has influenced us all.

Once the Internet allowed Star Wars fans around the world to connect with one another, May the 4th soon became a grassroots tradition each year, with fans online and offline proclaiming it “Star Wars Day.”

While the idea of May the 4th did not start with Lucasfilm, the film company that created Star Wars has fully embraced the spirit of fandom that makes the day so special. The official blog at StarWars.com as well as the official Star Wars social media channels on Twitter (@starwars #StarWarsDay) and Facebook (facebook.com/starwars) help spread the word and showcase fan activity. More and more official partners have offered sales, giveaways and exclusives, and have hosted parties and other activities to mark the day.

May the 4th kicks off a season of celebration, particularly since the month of May has always been important to Star Wars fans. The six live-action movies of the Star Wars saga debuted in May (starting with the original Star Wars on May 25th, 1977) and this year, principal photography on Star Wars: Episode VII will commence in May. The month also includes George Lucas’s birthday (May 14, 1944), and has been the traditional start date of the popular Star Wars Weekends at Walt Disney World Resort (this year, the fun begins on May 16th).

Godzilla, World's Most Revered Monster Hit PH Theaters on May 15

This May 2014, the world’s most revered monster is reborn as Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures unleash the epic action adventure “Godzilla.” From visionary new director Gareth Edwards (“Monsters”) comes a powerful story of human courage and reconciliation in the face of titanic forces of nature, when the awe-inspiring Godzilla rises to restore balance as humanity stands defenseless.

Gareth Edwards directs “Godzilla,” which stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson (“Kick-Ass”), Oscar® nominee Ken Watanabe (“Inception”), Elizabeth Olsen (“Martha Marcy May Marlene”), Oscar® winner Juliette Binoche (“The English Patient”), and Oscar-nominee Sally Hawkins (“Blue Jasmine”), with Oscar® nominee David Strathairn (“The Bourne Legacy”) and Emmy® and Golden Globe Award winner Bryan Cranston (“Argo,” TV’s “Breaking Bad”).

Edwards directs from a screenplay by Max Borenstein, story by David Callaham, based on the character “Godzilla” owned and created by TOHO CO., LTD. Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni are producing with Mary Parent and Brian Rogers. Patricia Whitcher and Alex Garcia are serving as executive producers, alongside Yoshimitsu Banno and Kenji Okuhira.

In his words, Edwards reveals how he approached shaping the character of Godzilla with all the latter’s personality and presence.

At the start of the process I felt that in some way we could decide and control who Godzilla was. And a strange thing that came from it was that, as we went along, you start to realize that Godzilla was going to tell us who he was, just like actors who have their own take on their characters. Strangely, we couldn’t totally dictate what it was going to be. It was more about just trying different ideas and permutations, and, of all the options, there was always one that was strongest. And slowly he revealed himself to us.

One of the conversations you get into with the animators quite often is they would say, 'If this was a real human, a real character, who would he be? And after thinking about it for a while, the thing we came up with was that he was sort of like the last Samurai. It was that idea of a lone, ancient warrior that would prefer to just not be part of the world if he could and be left alone, but events in the world force him to resurface.

It was very interesting with all these ideas, even designing his look. We have a set of instinctive reactions to animals that have evolved over millions of years, and you basically try different things until you feel the right emotion when you see Godzilla.

I wanted to get something that was very noble. And we tried the obvious things, like bear faces and dogs. But something that felt the most noble was a bird of prey, like an eagle. Eagles have their eyebrows very, very close to their nose, so we made his snout very high up, just near his brow line, and it gives him this look of nobility.

So, it was just trial and error. You try something and the strongest choice becomes clear, and before you know it, you’ve gone down this path and found Godzilla. But it wasn’t easy. I thought it was going to be an easy journey because, obviously, Godzilla has been in so many Japanese films. But, actually, it took us about a year to get the design right and to figure out his behavior as well. Is he an animal? Does he fight just like an animal or has he got more of a human-like nobility to him? There was always a fine line between making him too animalistic and making him too human.”

Slated to open across the Philippines on May 15, 2014, “Godzilla” is expected to be presented in 3D, 2D and IMAX® in select theatres and will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company, except in Japan, where it will be distributed by Toho Co., Ltd. Legendary Pictures is a division of Legendary Entertainment.
