ABS-CBN 2014 Summer Station ID Video Released

ABS-CBN 2014 Summer Station ID Video Released

Filipinos can always make it through calamities with a smile. This is what ABS-CBN will showcase in its much-awaited summer station ID premiering this Sunday (Mar 30) on “ASAP 19.”

Dubbed as “PINASmile: Masayang Muli ang Kwento ng Summer Natin,” the 2014 summer SID aims to promote the Philippines as a unique travel destination that takes pride in the beauty of each region, the country’s colorful culture, and of course, the stories behind the unique and infectious smiles of Pinoys.

Filipinos will always choose to smile amidst hardships; we find happiness even in the small things. We know how to be grateful and remain positive. We believe in the goodness of others. Indeed, despite the calamities that severely damaged our country, the Filipino optimism shines through,” said head of ABS-CBN Creative Communications Management Robert Labayen.

“PINASmile,” interpreted by today’s hottest loveteam Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla, brings out the raw and authentic happiness from the simple Pinoys. Kapamilya stars and news personalities were tasked to be the smile seekers and went to different parts of the country to immortalize these blissful moments with their own cameras.

Queen of All Media Kris Aquino, for example, took photos and even selfies with Ivatan women in Batanes, while Andi Eigenmann and Bea Alonzo roamed around Luneta taking pictures of families and friends bonding around the famous park. Angelica Panganiban, John Prats, and Zanjoe Marudo, on other hand, captured the smiles of residents in Mt. Pinatubo.

Also included in the itinerary are provinces that were severely devastated by disasters last year, particularly Bohol, Samar, and Leyte.

The positive stories and warm smiles from these hard-hit provinces are testaments of how brave and happy Filipinos could be despite the tragedies that our fellow countrymen went through,” explained Labayen. “Let’s make our summer story worth smiling about again, and show the world that the Philippines is one happy place worth visiting and coming back to.”

The “PINASmile: Masayang Muli ang Kwento ng Summer Natin” theme song was written by Robert Labayen, Lloyd Oliver Corpuz, Christer Salire, Revbrain Martin, Jill Cabradilla-Aspiras, Mark Raywin Tome, and Christine Daria Estabillo. Its music was composed, arranged and produced by Bojam and Thyro of FlipMusic, mixed and mastered by RB “Kidwolf” Barbaso and Bojam, and acoustic guitars by Nica Del Rosario. It was directed by Paolo Emmanuel Ramos and Peewee Gonzales.

The 2014 ABS-CBN Summer Station ID was created by ABS-CBN Creative Communications Management headed by Robert Labayen, Johnny Delos Santos, Patrick de Leon and Ira Zabat. The SID Creative and Production team members include Danie Sedilla-Cruz, Edsel Misenas, Kathrina Sanchez, Dang Baldonado, Tina Barbin, Sheryl Ramos, Christine Joy Laxamana, Christian Faustino, Lloyd Oliver Corpuz, Carlota Rosales, Carla Payongayong, Jonathan Perez, Adrian Lim, Chiz Perez, Raywin Tome, Christine Daria Estabillo, Ermil Sanchez, Mark Bravo, Love De Leon, video editors Lorenz Morales and Con Ignacio, logo designer Roger Villon, logo animation Meryl Miranda, print and graphics design head Carmelo Saliendra, motion graphics and brand identity head Oliver Paler, post production specialists Alfie Landayan and Rap Dela Rea, ABS-CBN TV Entertainment, ABS-CBN News and Current Affairs, ABS-CBN Regional Network Group, Star Magic, and the Choose Philippines team.

Rio 2 "What is Love" Lyric Video

Rio 2 "What is Love" Lyric Video

“What is Love” lyric video performed by Janelle Monáe from Blue Sky Studios’ “Rio 2” family movie is now up on YouTube. Watch below:

In April 2011, Twentieth Century Fox released Fox Animation and Blue Sky Studio’s CG animated feature “Rio.”  The film was born from the imagination of Carlos Saldanha, who co-directed or directed the global blockbusters “Ice Age,” “Ice Age: The Meltdown” and “Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs.”

To fully realize the scope and breadth of this magical world and its vivid characters, Saldanha brought together an all-star voice cast, led by Oscar® nominees Anne Hathaway and Jesse Eisenberg, Oscar and Grammy®-winner Jamie Foxx, acclaimed musical artist will.i.am, actor-musician Jemaine Clement, comedic actress Leslie Mann, actor Rodrigo Santoro (a Brazilian native), actor-comedian George Lopez, and funnyman Tracy Morgan.

The filmmakers enveloped the action – and audiences – with a combination of Brazilian sounds and contemporary pop music.  The soundtrack featured a stellar musical cast performing under the guidance of composer John Powell and Brazilian music legend and “Rio’s” executive music producer, Sergio Mendes. “Rio” became a worldwide smash with a global box office tally of $486 million.  It also was a huge hit on DVD and Blu-ray disc.

Now, Saldanha returns to Brazil and reunites his beloved characters in RIO 2.  In the new film, it’s a jungle out there for Blu, Jewel and their three kids, after they’re hurtled from Rio to the wilds of the Amazon. As Blu tries to fit in, he goes beak-to-beak with the vengeful and villainous Nigel, and meets the most fearsome adversary of all…his father-in-law.

Our favorite “Rio” characters are joined by Oscar nominee Andy Garcia, Grammy winner Bruno Mars, Tony® winner Kristin Chenoweth and Oscar/Emmy®/Tony winner Rita Moreno.  RIO 2 also features new Brazilian artists and original music by Janelle Monáe and Wondaland.

In RIO 2 we find Blu, Jewel and their family living the perfect domesticated life in the city.  The offspring are: Bia(voiced by “The Hunger Games’” Amandla Stenberg), who lives with her beak in a book and likes spouting facts and figures, just like her dad; Tiago (Pierce Gagnon, “Looper”) the youngest, who is always up for adventure, especially if it involves destroying something; and Carla (singer/actress/comedian Rachel Crow), the eldest, a spunky teen who longs to get a little space from her protective family so she can express her musical side.

So, in RIO 2, it’s on…in the Amazon, not only visually, but musically.  “We wanted to look at different musical ‘flavors,’ sounds and exciting new beats that make the soundtrack for RIO 2 even bigger than the first film’s,” says the director.

After Saldanha wrote the story, screenwriter Don Rhymer, who had worked on “Rio,” began fleshing out Saldanha’s ideas.  It was a fruitful collaboration, which sadly ended when Rhymer passed away in late 2012.  “Don was our guy,” says Saldanha. “He embraced the vision of the first film and had really exciting ideas for RIO 2.  His death left a big gap for us.  We were lucky to have the amazing writers Carlos Kotkin, Jenny Bicks and Yoni Brenner help finish the screenplay, but Don was a very special person who played a big role in the project’s development.”

“Rio 2” in 2D and 3D opens April 9 in theaters nationwide from 20th Century Fox to be distributed by Warner Bros.

Parokya Ni Edgar Tribute Highlights the 2014 MYX Music Awards

Parokya Ni Edgar Tribute Highlights the 2014 MYX Music Awards

Every time that MYX mounts the Philippines’ biggest awards night in music, they select one mover and shaker of local music scene that they deem historically groundbreaking. This year’s music awards saw the recognition of a group that has brought a whole new, hilarious flavor to Philippine sound.

The award was given to a band that celebrated twenty years of friendship, humor, and good music - Parokya ni Edgar.

In true Parokya fashion, eight friends and pioneers of band members Chito Miranda, Buwi Meneses, Gab Chee Kee, Darius Semana, Dindin Moreno and Vinci Montaner gathered on stage around a plastic table and monobloc chairs to share a pitcher and snacks. Among those present at the table were Rico Blanco, Gloc-9, Miggy Chavez, Yeng Constantino, Barbie Almalbis, Gabby Alipe, Ebe Dancel, and Raimund Marasigan. They performed six renditions of Parokya ni Edgar’s famous songs, “Buloy”, “Harana”, “Pangarap Lang Kita”, “Halaga”, “The Yes Yes Show”, and “Inuman Na,” which aptly capped off the performance when the members of Parokya ni Edgar stepped on stage to accept the title.

Vocalist Chito Miranda found himself humbled by all of this. “Usually people would expect us to say something funny, but for once I’m speechless,” he said when MYX Channel Head Andre Allan Alvarez presented him with the award.

The night of the MYX Music Awards was also one to honor artists, groups, and music video directors who made an impact in the local scene over the past year.

Replays of the MYX Music Awards will be aired on MYX on March 28 at 7:30pm, March 29 at 2:30pm, March 30 at 10:30am, and March 31 at 1:00am.

Sensodyne Logo

GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) joined forces with the Philippine Dental Association (PDA) launched “Say No to Ngilo,” an advocacy campaign that aims to put an end to teeth sensitivity, on Thursday, March 27, at the Makati Shangrila Hotel.

  • 9 out of 10 Filipinos suffer from Pangingilo* and majority just endure and settle with the pain.
  • “Say No to Ngilo” is an advocacy campaign where Dentists, Consumers and Sensodyne come together to enjoin everyone to heed the call to take action to no longer endure the pain of pangingilo.
  • Because the Philippines is an important market for GSK, Sensodyne is now made more accessible and available to more Filipinos in a sachet format at the affordable price of Php10.
  • Sensodyne is committed to create a future where every Filipino is sensitive-free. It is the #1 sensitivity brand in the country**, recommended by dentists***, and provides clinically proven relief and protection for sensitive teeth.

Finally, we can put a stop to this daily discomfort in our lives. GlaxoSmithKline, in collaboration with the Philippine Dental Association (PDA), is embarking on the advocacy to fight against sensitive teeth/pangingilo in the “Say No to Ngilo!” campaign. This remarkable commitment extends beyond a mere information campaign and toward proactive efforts to improve oral health care in the country, including the help of 2,000 dentists who have committed to the fight against dentine hypersensitivity through educating their patients on proper oral hygiene and using effective tools to combat pangingilo.

GlaxoSmithKline, through our brand, Sensodyne, has provided solutions to Filipinos for sensitive teeth. Sensodyne is the number-one sensitivity brand in the market, and most recommended brand by dentists for pangingilo. In GSK’s commitment to make every Filipino sensitivity-free, GSK launches Sensodyne sachets for only Php10 to drive accessibility and affordability for the solution to pangingilo.

The Philippines is the first country in the world where Sensodyne is introducing the sachet format. This development is also significant because GSK is confident of the Philippines as an important emerging market, and this will definitely encourage more Filipinos to proactively manage their sensitive teeth and say no to ngilo,” says Jeoffrey Yulo, Consumer Healthcare General Manager, GSK Philippines.

Sensodyne has continually provided clinically proven relief from pangingilo, so more experts recommend Sensodyne. If you have pangingilo, switching to Sensodyne to replace your regular toothpaste can make a big difference not only in your enjoyment of everyday life, but also in your overall oral health.

The PDA puts a stop to pangingilo

“9 out of 10 Filipinos suffer from sensitive teeth or pangingilo. Madalas, tinitiis nalang nila ang sakit dulot ng pangingilo. They do not get to enjoy their favorite food and drinks and fully enjoy the eating moments with their family and friends. As a dentist, I am concerned with how pangingilo affects my patients’ lives,” said Dr. Fernando “Andy” Fernandez, DMD, FPCOMS, President of the Philippine Dental Association. “This year, I am renewing my commitment to fight against pangingilo. I am saying ‘No to Ngilo!’ Let’s all take part as we build a stronger force against sensitive teeth. It is time for every Filipino to “Say No to Ngilo!”

GSK commits to provide every Filipino the weapon to fight sensitivity

From its partnership with dentists, Sensodyne now extends its call against pangingilo to Filipinos nationwide. To symbolize this mission, Sensodyne presents the Commitment Circle. This circle represents the three-part alliance among the Philippine Dental Association, GlaxoSmithKline/Sensodyne, and its most important members— everyone in the country! Let’s all pledge to a ngilo-free life. With PDA’s support and our commitment and pledge, We Say No to Ngilo!

Sensodyne is dedicated to creating a future where every Filipino is sensitive-free. Sensodyne provides clinically proven relief and daily protection for sensitive teeth. The Sensodyne toothpaste range contain different active ingredients, which is either Potassium Nitrate for its base range that depolarizes the nerve and protects it from firing to progressively reduce the pain of sensitivity, or, for Sensodyne Rapid Relief, Strontium Acetate that helps prevent the flow of the fluid within the tubules that would otherwise cause the tooth pain. For Sensodyne Repair & Protect, it contains the advanced NovaMin® breakthrough technology which is scientifically proven to help repair sensitive teeth/pangingilo by forming a tooth-like layer over exposed dentine to help continually repair and protect sensitive areas.

Whether your sensitive teeth/pangingilo is chronic and painful or just an infrequent tooth pain, Sensodyne will be able to help.

A consumer says No!

Campaign advocate Luis Manzano is all-too familiar with the perils of pangingilo, being a sensitive teeth sufferer himself. “Sometimes, during meetings and socializing, my enjoyment is cut short because of pangingilo. I just endure the pain so it doesn’t ruin my day or my night out,” shares Manzano, who is also active in charitable activities “When I started using Sensodyne, it made a big difference in my life! I don’t worry anymore about my sensitive teeth when I interact with people. Now, I get to enjoy my favorite drinks along with everyone else and I could eat anything I want. No more pagtitiis, no more pangingilo!”

Sensodyne, from the multinational pharmaceuticals company GlaxoSmithKline, offers a range of specifically formulated toothpastes, toothbrush and floss. It works to relieve pain due to pangingilo and to provide clinically proven lasting protection all day, every day when used as directed. Sensodyne has become the favorite toothpaste for sensitive teeth/pangingilo of dentists around the world.

Sarah Geronimo Adds Glitter to the 5th SMDC Pyromusical International Competition

Sarah Geronimo Adds Glitter to the 5th SMDC Pyromusical International Competition

The 5th Competition presented by SM Development Corp. (SMDC) was recently held at the SM Mall of Asia along the scenic Manila Bay. As always, the annual event put on a world-class spectacle of lights and colors staged by some of the world’s leading pyrotechnic experts.

Painting the Manila sky with bursts of vivid color, this year’s winners include: Canada’s Royal Pyrotechnie as grand champion; China’s Liuyang New Year Fireworks as First Runner Up and United Kingdom’s Jubilee Fireworks as Second Runner Up.

Performing the night’s finale is SMDC’s Sarah Geronimo singing this year’s anthem “STAR LIFE.”

Living The Star Life

A successful all-around artist - a captivating singer, a box-office actress and a stunning live performer – Sarah is every bit the epitome of a true star. She is the perfect endorser to champion SMDC’s thrust of giving its buyers the taste of 5-star living.

With all her years in local show business, Sarah has become one of the country’s brightest stars. Her talent and professionalism has kept her at the top of her game; but that she has remained grounded despite all her success truly makes her a role model – indeed one of the good guys.

To step up the campaign to inform all its potential buyers that they can live the life of a star and enjoy luxury living in all SMDC properties, Sarah has already released a new single called “Star Life.”

I’m thankful that I am part of the SMDC family,” Sarah says. “I’ve always been passionate about music and it is really my first love. So I’m very lucky that I was chosen to be part of SMDC’s music marketing campaign.”

Of the song, Sarah shares, “It has a very positive message and it is very aspirational to those who hear it. When I listen to the song, I am inspired to really try and achieve my goals. I don’t mean just my goals as an artist, but also in contributing to having a good life with my family. I think everyone aspires for that.”

Make a wish and your dreams will come alive; Oh it's the good life, by the good guys / Have your star life, you'll be sky high / Be who you are, feel like a star,” the song’s lyrics go.

As the theme for the campaign, its message is clear: The time is now to reach for your dreams, and with SMDC, your dreams can easily become a reality.

Sarah adds, “The song also says – It’s a space where stars like you and I align… We all know life is a little harder here in our country, but everyone wants to be able to provide a better life for his or her family, especially a quality place to call home. So, it’s all very ideal…

Both SMDC and Sarah believe that every Filipino deserves a shot of living the life of a star.

As the lyrics also say - Be who you are, live like a star… You don’t have to be a millionaire to be able to have a good life or live a star life. Living a good life with your loved ones, with your family does not mean you need to be living in a super expensive mansion. That is why I am so proud of SMDC, you’re sure that the homes you invest in are quality living spaces that are affordable.”

Sarah is still young but even she has begun thinking about her future, thriving career aside. For this reason, she also encourages her followers to always keep in mind that it never hurts to be thinking and planning ahead.

Having your own place to live does not necessarily mean you are leaving your family behind, or that you want to be away from them. People have different reasons for wanting their own place. Some want to experience an independent life; while others are more interested on investing. The purpose really varies,” Sarah notes.

In fact, for Sarah, her future plans involve making the most of her earnings and putting it where it counts.

“Hopefully, I can make investments and turn it into a business by renting out the units.” she says.

If I were to choose which SMDC property I would like to have, it would be Fern at Grass Residences, ‘cause it’s so close to my work place, ABS-CBN. There’s also Wind Residences in Tagaytay. I think it’s the perfect place to unwind, relax and chill out.”

Sarah delivered a wonderful performance of the SMDC “Star Life” during the closing exhibition of the 5th Apart from that, she also stars in the SMDC Star Life music video that was released last February 28 and, by now, already has over 156,000 views on TheOfficialSMDC YouTube channel.

As the face of SMDC’s “Star Life” campaign, Sarah will also grace its billboards, print and TV ads.

Daniel Padilla to Convert to Iglesia Ni Cristo for Kathryn Bernardo

Daniel Padilla to Convert to Iglesia Ni Cristo for Kathryn Bernardo

Is Daniel Padilla willing to do everything in the name of love? Even if it means changing his religious belief? Maybe. Maybe not.

During the presscon for his upcoming major concert at the Araneta Coliseum on April 30, Daniel expressed his willingness to change his religious beliefs to be with his on-screen partner, Kathryn Bernardo who is a member of the Iglesia Ni Cristo.

"Tignan natin at marami pa namang pwedeng mangyari sa future. Siguro hindi pa ako makakapag-decide ngayon. Pero siyempre, open naman ako. Diyos pa rin 'yan, bakit naman aayawan ko," the Kapamilya Teen King said

"Oo INC siya, okay lang, ganoon naman talaga. Pero sa future pa tayo makakapag-decide niyan. Hindi naman isyu ang religion. Hindi lang tayo pwedeng magdesisyon ngayon," he further said.

It will be recalled that Kathryn once said that one reason why she decided not to make her relationship with Daniel official is religion, "Religion, malaking factor siya para sa ating lahat. Pero for me pagmahal mo naman ang isang tao, tatanggapin mo kung ano na ang tao na 'yon." she said in an interview.

Alwyn Uytingco Finally Gets the Spotlight He Long Deserve in "Beki Boxer"

Alwyn Uytingco Finally Gets the Spotlight He Long Deserve in "Beki Boxer"

He might have starred as gay in numerous TV and movie projects in the past, but as they always say: "Your time to shine will come when you least expect it (Tamang proyekto sa tamang panahon)."

In the case of Kapatid star Alwyn Uytingco who played as Ai-Ai delas Alas' gay son in Tanging Ina Mo movies, in various gay characters on TV5's "Tropa Mo Ko Unli" and as a gay blogger in soon to be released "JasMine" series, Beki Boxer is one project tailor-fitted to flaunt further what kind of actor he is.

In this newest primetime offering of the Kapatid network, Alwyn is set to prove that fighting for one’s dreams and aspirations in life is possible regardless of one’s social status, gender and sexual orientation.

At their recently held media launch at Oasis Manila in Quezon City, TV5 gave selected member of the press a sneak-peek of this action-packed but heart-warming comedy series, which revolves around the story of Rocky Ponciano (Alwyn Uytingco), a young man who is naturally gifted with boxing prowess. When Rocky’s father Max (Christian Vasquez), a former boxing champion, lost his crucial fight that eventually doomed his career and tainted his reputation for life, it has become Rocky’s ultimate goal to become a world-class boxer to bring back the lost glory of his family.

However, Rocky is not your ordinary boxer. While his killer punches can knock down any opponent, he knows deep inside his heart that the king of the ring… is a queen.

Will Rocky be able to vindicate his father and his family? What will his father’s reaction be when he finds out that his boxer son is a beki? And will Rocky’s sexuality stop him from pursuing his dreams?

Joining Alwyn to give life to Beki Boxer’s endearing characters are Christian Vasquez as Max, his boxing champion-father; Candy Pangilinan as Consuelo, a loving wife and mother to Rocky and Max; Cholo Barreto as Elorde, Rocky’s homophobic brother; Onyok Velasco as Ninong Onyok; his godfather/boxing coach; Joross Gamboa as Madonna, his gay friend/confidant; John Regala as the antagonist Coach Dalmacio; Claire Hartell as Venus, Kristel Moreno as Jessa, Danita Paner as Chloe and Vin Abrenica as Atong, Rocky’s co-boxer / love interest.

Beki Boxer premieres this Monday, March 31, 7PM, replacing Let’s Ask Pilipinas on TV5.

Aljur Abrenica: "More than the big stars, Kambal Sirena is about quality program."

Aljur Abrenica: "More than the big stars, Kambal Sirena is about quality program.

Birthday boy Aljur Abrenica takes a short break from “Kambal Sirena” taping and from recording his upcoming album to spend time with the kids of World Vision in Quezon City. It was easy for the Kapuso hunk to chose World Vision as the outreach venue for his birthday since he has pledged educational support for two children from Palawan through the non-government organization.

Aljur will be turning 24 on March 24 but he celebrated his birthday early on March 20 to not intervene with his taping schedule for his newest primetime show. Aside from spending time with his family over the weekend, the Starstruck Season 4 winner is marking his birthday with the World Vision kids. “Kailangan mag give back sa daming blessings. I am starting with World Vision.” The former Machete star was emotional when he shared how happy he is receiving letters from his beneficiaries.

Quality first on ‘Kambal Sirena’

But if there’s one wish that Aljur can ask for his birthday, it is the warm acceptance of the public for his sirena-serye “Kambal Sirena”. His new show is facing stiff competition with ABS-CBN’s “Dyesebel”. “We’re aware of the competition. Pressure? Di namin masyado iniisip yung kompetensya eh. We’re focusing more on sa kung ano ang kaya naming gawin. Kung ano man yung nagawa namin before, paano mas mahihigitan pa,” he said.

Aljur also expressed that he and his co-stars are taking more time on giving the viewers a quality show than be destructed with ratings. “Di ko nababalitaan talaga ano yung mga nangyayari sa kabila. Kung nasa trabaho kami, we’re giving our 100 percent. Mas binibigyan namin ng pansin ang quality, ang story, ang acting, ang sa camera. Di ko actually inaalam ang ratings.”

Kantar Media provided the first viewership data for this week which shows “Dyesebel” claiming the number 1 spot on Monday, March 17. “Dyesebel” debuted with 32.8% while “Kambal Sirena” started its second week with 17.9%. Other ratings provider still has to supply their data though. Continue reading HERE.

Atom Araullo Shares Life-Saving Tips to Survive Bus Mishaps

Broadcast journalist Atom Araullo shows what commuters can do in case the bus they are riding suddenly meets an accident this Friday (Mar 28) in “Red Alert.”

Data show that in the Philippines, about 350,000 commuters ride buses every day. In 2013, 6,000 casualties in bus incidents were reported, and just last February, a bus fell off a cliff in Mt. Province and a bus tilted along SLEX.

What can you do in situations like these? Should you jump out of the window while the bus is still moving? Is there a place inside the bus where you can get the least amount of physical injuries?

Atom answers these questions first-hand as he shows viewers practical tips to save themselves inside a tilted bus. Victims of the Florida bus crash also recount their near-death experiences in the episode.
