Sarah Geronimo and John Lloyd Cruz Blockbuster Appeal Continue this Sunday on Cinema One Presents

Sarah Geronimo and John Lloyd Cruz Blockbuster Appeal Continue this Sunday on Cinema One Presents

Cinema One, the country’s number one cable channel, is bringing the highest grossing Filipino romance film to television for the first time, with its premiere airing of Cathy Garcia-Molina’s “It Takes a Man and a Woman,” airing on Sunday (February 2).

“It Takes a Man and a Woman,” which stars the blockbuster love team of John Lloyd Cruz and Sarah Geronimo, is the third installment in the “A Very Special Love” film series, wherein John Lloyd and Sarah reprise their roles as Miggy Montenegro and Laida Magtalas.

It follows the life of Miggy and Laida after their break up, which occurred after the events in the second film. Miggy, at this point, is in a relationship with Belle (Isabelle Daza), while Laida is now a fiercer version of herself after having lived in the United States.

When Laida comes home, she gets on board with the publishing arm of Miggy’s company, and the two struggle to co-exist in the same workplace after having broken up.

In their attempts to go against or with each other, the two fall into a series of events that lead them to realizing the real definition of true love.

“It Takes a Man and a Woman” received a remarkable critical response, even reaching the point of having its theatrical run extended. It has grossed over P400 million during its run in Philippine cinemas and over P200 million overseas.

The film was graded “A” by the Cinema Evaluation Board and a rating of “GP” by the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB).

Bibsy M. Carballo of Philippine Star said, “It Takes A Man & A Woman answered the challenge of offering a more mature perspective, according to direk Cathy, transforming a girl and a boy into a man and a woman with the capability of love and forgiveness, beyond just the ‘kilig’ factor.”

The film was also notably a breakthrough for Sarah as an actress. Tito Genova Valiente, chairman of the Urian Awards (Filipino Film Critics Circle) praised her acting, saying, “There are gems in her performance as Laida. Note the moments when the camera catches her in doubt. See her hurting with a slightest twitch of lips. Those subtleties, not expected by this writer, is good news. This girl knows how to act before a camera.”

Catch “It Takes a Man and a Woman” as it airs on television on the country’s number one cable channel, Cinema One on Sunday (February 2) at 8:00pm, as part of the channel’s Blockbuster Sundays movie block. Get updates on the program schedule by following @cinema_one on Twitter and by liking its official Facebook page (www.facebook.com/Cinema1channel).

Chris Pratt Becomes Accidental Hero in “The Lego Movie”

Chris Pratt Becomes Accidental Hero in “The Lego Movie”

In Warner Bros. Pictures' new 3D, animated comedy “The LEGO Movie,” the world is due for a disastrous end if not for one accidental hero: Emmet.

A construction worker and self-described nobody, Emmet adheres to the rules in every aspect of his life, content in the belief that he is the most ordinary, unremarkable person ever, until a crisis of monumental proportions reveals a surprisingly extraordinary side of him he never knew.

Providing the voice of Emmet is rising star Chris Pratt (“Delivery Man,” “Moneyball”) who will soon be seen in the Marvel feature “Guardians of the Galaxy,” in which he plays Star-Lord.

On day one, we talked about our experiences building something out of LEGO bricks and the frustration we’d sometimes feel when we couldn’t find a specific piece right away. That feeling encapsulates who Emmet is to us,” says Dan Hageman, who, with writing partner and brother Kevin Hageman worked on the story with screenwriters Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. “He thinks his happiness is tied to following the instructions yet the fate of the world will rely on him discovering his own creativity,” adds Kevin.

Pratt says, “This challenge takes him through LEGO realms he didn’t know existed, where everything is just ridiculous but in a good way. It’s all beautiful, imaginative, exciting and very funny. There are loveable characters, amazing sets, insane action, a lot of love and a really positive message that you can feel comfortable bringing your kids to see.”

Emmet never met an instruction manual he didn’t like. Whatever the rules are, he’s glad to follow; whatever song is playing on the radio, he’ll sing along; whatever everyone else has for lunch or watches on TV, well, he’s cool with that. He even consults a book to remind him to shower and put on his pants (in that order) every morning before joining the Bricksburg citizenry on their orderly commute to work.

We wanted someone with incredible comedy chops as our lead, but someone who can also be sweet and endearing, and embody this ‘regular guy’ spirit. Chris Pratt was our first choice; right out of the box,” says Lord.

Each day on the construction crew, Emmet happily razes any buildings deemed “weird” and replaces them with ones that look exactly like all the others, on orders from President Business. Says Pratt, “The city of Bricksburg is this big sprawl where everything looks the same and it’s all pre-fab modular homes, and any areas that have any flavor are being destroyed. So it’s being built as a kind of homogenous, utopian model, though you quickly sense there’s some underlying darkness here; something is controlling the people of Bricksburg.

But life as he knows it is about to change when Emmet accidentally veers off the path at his site, falls headlong into a freshly excavated pit, and meets the trespassing Wyldstyle: the most beautiful and exciting woman he has ever seen. From her graffiti-splashed black hoodie to the turquoise and hot-pink streaks in her hair, to her take-charge attitude, there’s clearly nothing ordinary about this woman.

When Wyldstyle encounters Emmet at the construction site, she is there searching for the one thing that can block Lord Business’s terrible plan, according to prophecy: The Piece of Resistance. So when that vital piece turns up inexplicably fused to Emmet’s back, like it or not, the guy whose only ambition in life is to fit in suddenly becomes The Special, the most important person in the universe. And the most hunted. Before he knows what’s happening, Emmet is careening at high speed through the Bricksburg cityscape with Lord Business’s robot assassins in fierce pursuit.

Opening across the Philippines on Thursday, February 6, “The LEGO Movie” is distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

GMA News "IM Ready" Set to Educate Public on Safety Information

GMA News "IM Ready" Set to Educate Public on Safety Information

GMA Network Chairman and CEO lawyer Felipe Gozon urged the public to “make preparedness a part of everybody’s lifestyle” during the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA), among partners of the one-stop shop for public safety information, the GMA News’ IM READY Public Service Portal last Jan. 10.

Disasters,” Gozon emphasized, “can overwhelm even the best-prepared countries like Japan and the United States.” And unfortunately, if what climate change experts say turn out to be true, citizens of the world will have more of the unexpected and “never befores” as far as natural calamities are concerned.

The IM Ready Public Service Portal seeks to empower ordinary Filipinos to make life-changing decisions to keep safe.

As a media organization, we believe we have a responsibility to do more than just raise awareness of what’s going on and what will likely happen. To be more relevant, we need to empower people not only to respond better to disaster and emergency situations but adapt a way of life that will prepare them for the worst. So now more than ever, preparedness is the name of the game,” Gozon said.

Service partners lauded the move not only as timely and relevant but ground-breaking.

GMA Network is proud to partner with like-minded organizations which are not only introducing but continuously evolving their services to better respond, especially during emergency situations,” Gozon said, adding that with Metro Manila Development Authority, Department of Science and Technology PAGASA/PROJECT NOAH, Department of Transportation and Communications, Metro Rail Transit and Philippine National Railways, the IM Ready Public Service Portal is destined to be a go-to site for the public.

Also present during the event were GMA Network First VP for Regional TV and head of Expansion and Production Services for News and Public Affairs Rikki Escudero; GMA VP for Multimedia Journalism Howie Severino; GMA Weather’s resident meteorologist Nathaniel “Mang Tani” Cruz; consultant for Online Strategy and News Branding Sheila Paras; and UP Prof. and IM Ready Portal consultant CP David.

The portal will feature real-time updates on weather and traffic situations in the metro, basic information on fares, maps and routes, and class suspensions.

GMA also partnered with Google, which recently acquired the community-based traffic application Waze that is regarded as a game changer for traffic and disaster and risk management. Using Waze, the IM Ready Portal can get relevant up-to-the minute crowd-sourced information.

Denisse Oca Pregnant with Phil Younghusband Child? Causes Break-up Angel Locsin

Denisse Oca Pregnant with Phil Younghusband Child? Causes Break-up Angel Locsin

There are rumors going around the four corners of showbiz that Melissa Mendez' only daughter Denisse Oca is pregnant courtesy of Phil Younghusband, reason why Angel Locsin decided to stay out of their relationship.

On her Instagram account, Denisse denied the accusations saying she has nothing to do with the break-up but opted not to reveal the identity of her baby's father.
It's not true at all but no matter how many times I say that people will just think I’m denying it and will keep saying hurtful things. Damned if I do, damned if I don’t. I shouldn’t have even been dragged into this “issue” and I’d like to stay out of it. This is all I’m going to say about this. Please just let me live my life and enjoy this blessing.”

Her mother, also aired the same sentiments saying her daughter and the baby's condition might be put at risk. On Twitter, she requested the Kapamilya actress to ask her fans to leave her daughter alone.
Angel, this is Tita Melissa. Can you please help coz my daughter is being bashed regarding your breakup with Phil making false accusations? Have a heart to aid my daughter coz she’s pregnant fighting her own battles and now she’s being bashed by your fans being the reason why you and Phil broke up and you know the truth.”

In which Angel immediately responded with:

Tita, katulad po ng mga nagba-bash po sa akin hindi ko rin po ‘to kontrolado. Hindi ko rin po alam kung fans nga ba ang may kagagawan o mga nangugugulo lang talaga. Baka mas maganda po kung si Phil ang kausapin nyo tungkol dito. Sana po maintindihan nyo. Nakita ko lang po ang pictures nila together pero hindi ko po nakilala pa ang anak n’yo.”

It will be recalled that prior to Phil asking Angel out on a Valentine date 3 years ago, Phil and Denisse were frequently seen hanging out together leaving people speculate that they were in a relationship (read related news HERE).

Denise Cornejo Reveals: "Zanjoe Marudo and Not Vhong Navarro Courted Me First."

Denise Cornejo, the girl allegedly behind Vhong Navarro's ordeal made another bigtime revelations. This time involving Bea Alonzo's real-life boyfriend Zanjoe Marudo.

In a report by showbiz writer Julliane Love de Jesus posted at inquirer.net, Denise said it was Zanjoe who made the first move on her  on the same day he met Vhong.

Julianne's report says:

It was not Vhong Navarro but it was his friend and fellow actor Zanjoe Marudo who made the first move on Deniece Cornejo.

In an affidavit submitted to the Taguig Prosecutors Office on Wednesday, Cornejo narrated that she saw Navarro sometime in 2011 in a store of a Makati mall where he was endorsing an international shoe brand.

While shopping shoes for her brothers, Cornejo saw Marudo staring at her while uttering “ang ganda talaga (she is so beautiful).”

Marudo, who accompanied Navarro in the launch, made a move to Cornejo without even formally introducing himself.

In the affidavit, Cornejo said: “Xanjo Marudo, without introductions, suddenly asked me ‘Para sa boyfriend mo? (Is that for your boyfriend)?”

Cornejo, however, did not say what her response was to Marudo’s question.

If Deniece's statement is true, who do you think is suffering now from an extreme medical condition, trauma, death threats and legal battle?

Xian Lim Calls Kim Chiu as Bea Binene, Releases Apology on Twitter

Here's another reason why Xian Lim is being tagged as male Kris Aquino.

The “Bride for Rent” star is getting numerous negative reaction from fans following an incident during the live episode of Banana Nite aired on ABS-CBN Friday night, January 30 where he poked fun at a Kim Chiu impersonator.

Lim appeared as a guest in the show which aired live from the plaza of Sta. Cruz Church, Binondo for the Chinese New Year countdown.

After performing the song “So It’s You”, Xian was joined an impersonator of Kim Chiu as he got back the stage.

What irked the viewers was when Xian looked puzzled by the presence of the impersonator onstage and when he asked, “Sino ‘to?

The impersonator also greeted the crowd a Happy Chinese New Year.

Lim then addressed the girl, “Ang taas ng energy. Kamusta naman?” to which the girl answered, “Okay naman.”

The actor then said with a laugh: “Anong ginagawa ni Bea Binene dito?

And as his old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, Peter comes to realize that all of his enemies have one thing in common: OsCorp.

Glee Star Alex Newell Bromance Relationship Bared in “Geography Club”

Glee Star Alex Newell Bromance Relationship Bared in “Geography Club”

From young twin brothers Gary (director)  and Edmund (writer), “Geography Club” stars “Glee’s” Alex Newell with Cameron Deane Stewart, Justin Deeley, Nikki Blonsky, Meaghan Martin, Andrew Caldwell and Allie Gonino in a coming-of-age and coming-out film of contemporary gay teenagers who formed a club that seemed so nerdy that it keeps the curious away, so that they can openly and safely discuss their true sexual identities.

Based on Brent Hartinger's best-selling critically acclaimed novel of the same title, “Geography Club” is a fast, fresh coming-of-age movie that tells a real and powerful story unfolding in every high school around the country – a story of kids hiding their true identities in plain sight, even as they feverishly pursue their hearts’ desires yet still look for something that will finally define who they are. They start out trying to protect their one big secret among themselves.  Russell (Stewart) is dating Trish (Martin), a sweet but sexually motivated young lady – even as he is falling for the football jock Kevin (Deeley), who won’t ever reveal the truth to his macho teammates Nolan (Harvey) and Jared (Darden).  Min (Maki) and Terese (Blonsky) tell everyone they’re really just best friends.  And then there’s Ike (Newell) who is trying on every identity in the book. They know they are different, but at least they’re not in daily danger like the bullied geek Brian Bund (Olivares). Yet, when Russell’s sexual orientation is suddenly exposed to the whole school by the ultra-popular Kimberly (Gonino), the members of the Geography Club begin to panic.

The movie aims to bust old stereotypes; create fun, relatable characters where few have previously existed in pop culture; and explore a new world – one in which tolerance is slowly growing but peril still lurks for teens who don’t quite fit into the usual crowd.     Edmund Entin, who wrote the screenplay, said, “I was immediately attracted to this project because I have such an affection for the novel and jumped on the chance to work on the film. I saw in the novel, a tapestry of characters and emotions that felt specific to these times.

The best coming of age films resonates with the mainstream when someone can take the pulse of the contemporary adolescent and write something that shades them perfectly. The novel did that. And my vision for the screenplay was to accentuate those feelings. As the writer of the screenplay I felt I was borrowing the universe from the novel’s author, Brent Hartinger, and delicately molding it to exist as a narrative more fitted for the screen.”

Gary Entin, the director, reiterates: “What struck me most about the novel was how cleverly its different themes were sewn in, and how perceptive they were in their quest to define what drives a young adult emotionally. Geography Club merges the journeys of many different students to service its larger message, giving everyone who reads it a character to identify with.

I believe there is something in this film for everyone. First and foremost I believe a movie should be entertaining. If you walk away from this movie having had a good laugh and a good cry, we’d all have done our job. My overall vision for the film was to take a subject matter usually told from an insider’s perspective and treat it with the commercial aesthetic of a classic John Hughes film.
After all, it might be the era of "it gets better," but there are more social land mines - from digital dating to physical and cyber bullies, from the stress on success to being the most publicity exposed generation in history - for kids to outwit than ever.  "Geography Club" zooms through this new reality, and becomes the coming-of-age movie of a generation as savvy as any, yet still flummoxed by the timeless question of how anyone can survive the intoxicating madness of youth and emerge happy to be who they are.

Join “Geography Club” as it comes out in cinemas on February 5 from CrystalSky Multimedia.

Nora Aunor and Tirso Cruz III Reunite in Studio5 "When I Fall InLove"

Nora Aunor and Tirso Cruz III Reunite in Studio5 "When I Fall InLove"

Philippine cinema's most popular loveteam of all time reunite in TV5's made for TV movie "When I Fall In Love".

Nora Aunor and Tirso Cruz III, who comprise the famous Guy and Pip loveteam in the late 60’s until the 1980s, are paired anew in the Joel Lamangan directed romantic-family drama "When I Fall In Love" two decades after their last film "Bilangin ang Mga Bituin sa Langit."

The series features Guy and Pip as the Buenaventura couple, Fely and Armando, whose touching love story is told as the narration shifts to and fro past and present events of their lives.

A year before their 40th wedding anniversary, Armando, a doctor, is diagnosed with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Resigned to the fact that his chances of recovery are slim, he chooses to spend the little time he has left with Fely and his three children: Ricky (Marc Abaya), Nica (Nadine Samonte), and Louie (Felix Roco). Armando, who tries to remain optimistic despite his illness, wishes to renew his marriage vows with Fely.

Although the film portrays Fely and Armando as an affluent couple who maintain an endearing affection for each other despite being married for many years, When I Fall In Love gradually reveals the scars of their relationship and the imperfections of their family.

"When I Fall In Love" airs on February 11, Tuesday, at 8:00 PM on TV5 as part of Studio5 Original Movies, a collection of "made-for-TV" movies.

Axinite Digicinema Offers Lovers at Right a Valentine Movie "The Right Kind of Wrong"

Axinite Digicinema Offers Lovers at Right a Valentine Movie "The Right Kind of Wrong"

Right Kind

Love at first sight is one of those enduring mysteries that the majority of us believe in and surveys show more than half have experienced. That the object of such affection is a married woman is as classic a dilemma as Paris and Helen of Troy.

In “The Right Kind of Wrong,” a romantic comedy, or perhaps a comedy about the madness of romance, we are introduced to Leo, a total romantic and a failed-writer-turned-dishwasher made famous for his many flaws in a blog called “Why You Suck,” a huge Internet success written by his ex-wife Julie (played by Kristen Hager). Then Leo meets Colette (Sara Canning), the girl of his dreams… on the day she is marrying the perfect man. And so, the ultimate underdog story begins as Leo, a fearless dreamer, risks all to show Colette and the whole wide world all that is right with a man famous for being wrong.

Convinced Colette is his soul mate, Leo goes on the ‘unconventional tours’ that she leads in the scenic town of Mount Yalo and doggedly observes her secret daily rituals. He invites her anonymously to witness him in action – in his job as a dishwasher ‘with themes.’ In the process he discovers that Colette is an outsider, like himself, with a wicked sense of humor and a passion for speaking her mind. In Leo’s war to win Colette’s heart, he gets beat up by kids, loses his home, his job, and (temporarily) his cat. Leo’s pursuit of Colette also changes Leo himself. Because when he discovers Colette has read Julie’s book… he reads it to know what he is up against. And taking in Julie’s complaints, he is finally forced to face the ways he let Julie down. And the ways that his refusal to listen to others — has let others in his life down too, including himself.

Colette is a strong-willed woman,” observed Canning, “and, at first, she’s really not having this crazy pursuit from Leo, bombarding her at work and doing crazy things all over town. But somehow, he manages to find his way in.” At first, Leo’s demented behavior substantiates the claims Julie makes in her blog-turned-book. “But bit by bit, Colette begins to see a lot of her own traits reflected in Leo’s actions and she realizes Leo might not be too far off the mark. Colette has a great line after she reads Julie’s book and the blog and she says to Leo, “You know, a lot of the things she [Julie] calls wrong don’t seem wrong to me.”

From my first chemistry test with Ryan, I really hoped that this would all work out and I’d be sitting here in this gorgeous location shooting this film,” said Canning. “I think he’s perfect for Leo. We laugh all the time. We laugh in between all these really difficult scenes that we have to shake it off. And he’s right there. There’s no transition for him between his crazy lovely self off-camera and then what he brings to a scene. It’s great to watch him and to play with him.”

Kwanten returned the affection in his observations about Canning, when he wasn’t ducking her cross punch. “Sara brings such an exuberance to that character. I don’t think the girl actually sleeps. She’s sort of permanently buzzed. And she loves this character, she loves the story and I couldn’t ask for sort of a better co-star.”

In love, there are no boundaries and there are no obstacles, that is the theme of “The Right Kind of Wrong.” It’s a fantasy that is fun to subscribe to from time to time and if you do, you’ll root for Leo and feel romantically transported to where you can believe what Leo, our hero, says, which is that nothing is impossible,” concludes producer Lantos.

“The Lego Movie” Constructs Big, Fun and Adventure Brick by Brick

“The Lego Movie” Constructs Big, Fun and Adventure Brick by Brick

Anyone who ever designed a universe from a heap of parts on their bedroom floor will know what Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, writer/directors of Warner Bros.' new 3D animated comedy “The LEGO Movie,” mean when they say that, growing up, they always had buckets of LEGO® bricks. “We’d build spaceships and all kinds of crazy things, but it wasn’t just the building, it was the infinite possibilities of things to make and express that was so irresistible and exciting,” says Miller.

As filmmakers, their interest took a different focus. “Chris and I were inspired by the ingenuity and humor that comes out of the international LEGO community,” says Lord, referring to such outlets as LEGO Cuusoo, the LEGO Group’s fan submission site for potential new products, “ReBrick” forums where people can share their creations, and the growing number of unique short films, using LEGO bricks and minifigures, that are produced and shared online by individuals from every corner of the world.

Such is the fascination of the LEGO brand, an endlessly evolving and hugely popular construction toy that has cultivated creativity across generations and cultures since its inception. Committed to upholding that principle, Lord and Miller knew from the start that this could be no standard animation but a virtual build, a feature-length motion picture made entirely of LEGO bricks and elements.

We both thought,” Lord continues, “‘Wouldn’t it be amazing to make a big, fun, action-packed LEGO adventure that captures the feeling of being a kid putting these pieces together, but on a truly epic scale?’ And what if it could retain that handmade quality these little films have that’s so engaging. Because part of the appeal of LEGO bricks is how accessible they are as an art form, we wanted to make a film that felt like something anyone could do in their own basement…provided they had a gigantic basement and a few million bricks!

Actually, closer to 15 million, if you count each brick, character, set piece, and prop needed, as the filmmakers ultimately realized their vision for the film.

Indeed, “There are two different ways people play with LEGO bricks,” Miller relates. “One is to follow the instructions on the kit and put together this awesome thing, whatever it is, which you then set on your shelf and never use so it doesn’t break, and the other is to take a pile of random pieces and make something from your own imagination, then take it apart and make something else. ‘The LEGO Movie’ uses these two different approaches as the basis for its story, which is really about innovation and creativity and the importance of change.”

Producer Roy Lee calls the directors “two of the most creative people I know. They did an amazing job on ‘Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs,’ which was a fairly thin book, and they came in and reinvented some of the characters and really expanded it from what was on the page. With the LEGO concept, we had a blank canvas and they were the perfect guys to come in and invent a whole new world to explore.”

True fans and true originals, they brought equal parts reverence and irreverence to “The LEGO Movie.”

States Miller, “What we always try to do with our movies is create something that would make us laugh, and make our friends laugh. We don’t ever want to do something that talks down to kids.”

Obviously, kids and their parents will get it,” Lord says, “but we wanted to bridge the generations and keep in mind that there’s a community of adult LEGO fans who make the most complex and incredible creations a kid might not even think of. My favorite films are the ones I can take my granny to, or my parents and my girlfriend, or my nieces and nephews, and know we will enjoy it together. That’s the most fun you can have at a movie theater - when people of all ages are laughing together.

Opening across the Philippines on Thursday, February 6, “The LEGO Movie” is distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.
