Janet Napoles' Lawyer Atty. Lorna Kapunan Grilled on "Face the People"

This Monday, November 18, will surely be controversial as the former legal counsel of alleged “pork barrel queen” Janet Lim Napoles faces the people.

A brave Atty. Lorna Kapunan sits on Face The People’s iconic “silya de konsensya” to reveal, for the first time ever, the truth behind her withdrawal from Janet Napoles’ case. Kapunan will also put an end to the issues accusing her as an unfaithful lawyer.

Viewers should not miss the fearless statements of Napoles’ former lawyer who will also name people in the government who, according to her, comes with a price.

The controversial lawyer will face adversity from NBN-ZTE scam whistleblower Jun Lozada and activist/law graduate Krissy Conti as the two reiterate her responsibility to Napoles as a lawyer, while Kapunan finds agreement from another controversial lawyer Atty. Ferdinand Topacio.

As banters continue to heat up, the issue about Kapunan’s acceptance fee was raised. How true is it that she priced 100 million pesos for the Napoles case?

Find out more this Monday on Face The People, 4:30PM on TV5!

Remastered "Ganito Kami Noon, Paano Kayo Ngayon" Opens in Theaters

Remastered "Ganito Kami Noon, Paano Kayo Ngayon" Opens in Theaters

Filipino viewers can now watch the multi-awarded Filipino historical drama “Ganito Kami Noon, Paano Kayo Ngayon?” in clearer and better high definition (HD) format as its digitally restored and re-mastered version hits theaters this week and will be shown in seven cinemas in Metro Manila.

The 1976 Eddie Romero classic film topbilled by Christopher De Leon, Gloria Diaz, and Eddie Garcia will have its special screenings at SM City North EDSA, SM Megamall, SM Manila, SM Fairview, Robinsons Galleria, Robinsons Metroeast, and Market Market.

“Ganito Kami Noon, Paano Kayo Ngayon?” is the third film restored by ABS-CBN Film Archives and Central Digital Laboratory, following the successful restorations of Ishmael Bernal’s “Himala” and Peque Gallaga’s “Oro Plata Mata.”

It tells the story of the simple-minded and na├»ve Kulas (Christopher De Leon) who begins his much-awaited trip to Manila. On his way to Manila, he mindlessly takes on the mission of retrieving a friar’s son and bringing him to the friar’s residence in Manila. Kulas also meets the ambitious and aspiring actress Diding (Gloria Diaz) to whom he falls for incessantly.

Upon arriving in Manila, Kulas learns of the lucrative reward he earned from the mission. With his new life, Kulas is trained by Tibor (Eddie Garcia) to be a full-pledged aristocrat: well-mannered and sophisticated. But despite the luxurious life he now leads, Kulas remains restless and discontented as he longs for nothing else but to win the heart of his beloved Diding and find his purpose in his newfound world.

Aside from the restoration process itself, ABS-CBN Film Archives made a milestone in the film industry, not just in the country but in Asia, by using a 360 degree marketing campaign to promote a digitally restored film and reintroducing it to the current audience as If it was brand new.

The restoration campaign was such a breakthrough that it served as a model for member archivists of the Southeast Asia-Pacific Audio Visual Archives Association (SEAPAVA) to replicate.

Just recently, the restoration campaign for “Himala” was recognized with a Philippine Quill Awards by the prestigious International Association of Business Communicators.

When asked what’s next for ABS-CBN Film Archives, head Leo Katigbak quipped, “We have quite a few titles in the pipeline for the classics though it is premature to announce them at this point as the priority may change depending on our plans. However, we have restored nearly 50 Star Cinema titles over the past year so hopefully, the audience will be able to see again the likes of “Got to Believe,” “Milan,” “Tanging Yaman,” “Dekada 70,” “Maalaala Mo Kaya,” “Sana Maulit Muli,” and many of the early STAR CINEMA titles in a new light.”

Our restoration efforts aren’t also limited to older films though it seems it’s not appropriate to use the term for new films. We also did work on “The Mistress” and our version has been approved by I-TUNES making it another first for the Philippines, in HD no less. Our efforts are really designed to prepare our content, classics and modern, for the next generation of Filipinos. We have such a rich legacy and it’s a shame if we cannot share that,” he added.

ABS-CBN bagged the remaining rights to restore the Filipino classic from the National Commission for Culture and the Arts early this year. It took them four months for the actual manual restoration of the film.

For screening schedules of “Ganito Kami Noon, Paano Kayo Ngayon?” please check with the aforementioned malls. Also, watch out for “Ganito Kami Muli,” a documentary produced by Cinema One that sees through fully restored film in the eyes of young filmmakers, soon on ABS-CBN.

Iglesia Ni Cristo Responds to Article Wrote by Catholic Priest Regarding Typhoon Yolanda Victims

Iglesia Ni Cristo Responds to Article Wrote by Catholic Priest Regarding Typhoon Yolanda Victims

Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church of Christ) is under fire once more.

This time, over an online article saying their church in Iloilo “refused” to shelter victims of typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) last weekend. The church was first attacked for their medical mission that garnered a million people in Manila last month.

The said “refusal” article instantly spread like wildfire online. It was accompanied by a photo of INC’s unharmed church standing in the middle of the damaged establishments in Tacloban.

In all honesty, we found it very difficult to write, especially that sensitive issues like this would remain rumor until admitted by the parties involved or until proven true by eye witnesses or the victims themselves.

The issue was first published on a blog site ran by a Roman Catholic priest named Abe Arganiosa,

The priest’s article was backed up by a Facebook post from a certain Mai Militante who wrote:

Story of our staff from the Yolanda Typhoon incident… they were walking from estancia to balasan road… it was still raining and they were soaking wet, hungry, tired and dead scared… they stopped and thought they could rest at the churck of Iglesia ni Christo… but people from that church told them they cannot come in bcoz they are not members of that church… i was shocked with this story…. as they say, “whay u sow so shall you reap.” Grabe…

Check out Maya and Sir Chief Wedding Vows video below:

Sir Chief to his bride:

Maya, I vow to love you forever. To fulfill your dreams as you have fulfilled mine. To never give you any reason to doubt. To apologize if I make a mistake, and to apologize even if I don't make a mistake. And most of all, to constantly remind you that it is not I who is the miracle in this relationship, but you, because you turn my whole world around.

"And I will be forever grateful to you, my miracle, because you found your way on that bridge more than a year ago. We had very different lives then, but that bridge brought you to me, and me to you. It was just like any other night, except that you came out of the blue. And just like that, my whole world changed. I changed.

"And although you like to call me Sir Chief, I want you to know that it is you who will always be my chief. My boss, my sun and my love, and I won't have it any other way. I will love you until death do us part."

Maya to her groom:

Mahal kita."

Michael V. and Ogie Alcasid Reunite in TV5’s “Killer Karaoke Pinoy Naman”

Michael V. and Ogie Alcasid Reunite in TV5’s “Killer Karaoke Pinoy Naman”

Master-of-disguise Michael V. and The Songwriter Ogie Alcasid reunite in TV5’s new game show Killer Karaoke Pinoy Naman, the local version of the hit US show Killer Karaoke, premiering this Saturday, 8:30pm on the Kapatid Network.

I was surprised!” said a delighted Michael V., the show’s host, when Ogie came out on stage and announced that he would be Bitoy’s guest co-host for the pilot episode. “It’s going to be lots of fun! I’m very happy that Ogie is my first guest Karaoker.” It’s definitely going to be a laugh trip overload with the comic duo, who saw each other for the first time since Ogie made his big move to TV5.

Ogie was equally surprised when he took on the Killer Karaoke’s sing-and-play challenge. “I thought I can make it, but when the challenge started, I could no longer sing!” he said in between laughs, as he was tasked to sing “Pusong Bato” while serving as yaya/waiter to Michael V. and fighting electric shocks in between.

Aside from electric shocks, there’s a whole lot of other distractions contestants have to overcome when they join Killer Karaoke Pinoy Naman. As seen in the US version, there were challenges such as singing while getting your body hair waxed, stepping on spiders and maggots, or standing in front of giant fans blowing fresh air, oatmeal, and paprika. The final showdown puts the top three contenders onto a speeding turntable; the last player standing wins the jackpot. Marian Rivera on the Box-Office Results of Kung Fu Divas: "Kumita kami hindi nga lang malaki.

Kapuso actress Marian Rivera does not mind those who are comparing the success of her movie with Ai Ai delas Alas with the box office hit of her boyfriend, Dingdong Dantes.

Marian admitted that "Kung Fu Divas" did not earn as much as "She's the One" starring Dantes, Bea Alonzo and Enrique Gil, but she maintained that it still did well in cinemas.

"Okay lang, ganoon talaga ang buhay. Hindi naman sa lahat ng pagkakataon ay kailangang blockbuster ka o ganito. Ang importante ay masaya kami ni Ate Ai Ai, kami ng direktor at kung anuman 'yung income. May mga taga-ibang bansa na gustong kunin ang pelikula namin. Aaminin ko na kumita kami, hindi nga lang malaki," she told

She added that she is happy for the success of her boyfriend's movie project.

"Lahat naman ng movie ni Dong successful, happy ako para sa kanya," she said.

While her movie was not a box office hit, Marian said this will not stop her from producing more films.

"Oo naman, hindi ako madadala, Siguro sa magandang proyekto pag-aaralan mabuti dahil hindi din biro ang nilalabas ng isang producer," she said.

New “Lone Survivor” Trailer Arrives

The new trailer for Peter Berg's blood-soaked action-thriller “Lone Survivor” starring Mark Wahlberg is now online which you can watch HERE.

Based on The New York Times bestselling true story of heroism, courage and survival, “Lone Survivor” tells the incredible tale of four Navy SEALs on a covert mission to neutralize a high-level al-Qaeda operative who are ambushed by the enemy in the mountains of Afghanistan.

Faced with an impossible moral decision, the small band is isolated from help and surrounded by a much larger force of Taliban ready for war. As they confront unthinkable odds together, the four men find reserves of strength and resilience as they stay in the fight to the finish.

Mark Wahlberg stars as Marcus Luttrell, the author of the first-person memoir Lone Survivor, whose book has become a motivational resource for its lessons on how the power of the human spirit is tested when we are pushed beyond our mental and physical limits. Starring alongside Wahlberg as the other members of the SEAL team are Taylor Kitsch, Emile Hirsch and Ben Foster.

“Lone Survivor” is written and directed by Peter Berg, who again crafts a striking portrait of the unbreakable bonds between men that he first explored in “Friday Night Lights.”

Korina Sanchez Disputes Anderson Cooper's Reports on Yolanda Victims

Korina Sanchez Disputes Anderson Cooper's Reports on Yolanda Victims

Whether it was in defense of her husband Sec. Mar Roxas or just what she thinks a ‘journalist’s responsibility,’ we don’t know, but ABS-CBN news anchor Korina Sanchez did not hesitate commenting on CNN’s Anderson Cooper’s way of reporting about Typhoon Yolanda’s aftermath on Wednesday, November 13.

Cooper is in the Philippines for a special coverage of the super typhoon, which was named one of the worst typhoons that ever hit the planet. His CNN crew flew to Tacloban on Wednesday to do live coverage for his show, ‘Anderson Cooper 360.’

Doing a live report with Tacloban airport as the background, Cooper said, “No real evidence of organized relief and rescue operation around Tacloban. I haven’t seen much of a relief effort, I haven’t seen a large military presence.”

One remark which irked Sanchez, lovey-dovey of Roxas, secretary of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) unit tasked to lead the “search, rescue and relief operations on the ground.”

Itong si Anderson Cooper, sabi wala daw gov’t presence sa Tacloban. Mukhang hindi niya alam ang sinasabi niya,” Sanchez was quoted as saying over her morning radio program on DZMM.

One comment that made the netizens explode. Korina has become and instant talk of the town, online and offline.

For when Sanchez was at the comfort of the ABS-CBN studio, reading news reported by the news team, Anderson Cooper was out there in Tacloban city, gathering news, first hand for the consuming worldwide audience.

As of this posting, Sanchez hasn’t released any further remarks about her comment that gone viral. But one thing is sure, the lady was definitely commenting to defend her husband who aims to be the president of the Republic of the Philippines - one dream that’s seems to be not becoming a reality especially now that the search and rescue operations get negative reactions from all over the world.

Check out Anderson Cooper video reports aired  on CNN live from Tacloban HERE.

Unlike her 2009 calendar photos, Marian, promised that her 2014 photos shot in Boracay, Batangas and Palawan by fashion photographer Marc Nicdao will be a bit more daring perfectly showing her current persona.

"Yung 2009 ko na calendar, medyo sobrang conservative as in shorts ako doon at may balabal. Ngayon ay literal na two-piece ang suot ko. Ngayon masasabi ko na nagkaroon ako ng kumpiyansa sa sarili ko dahil sa proper diet, exercise at kahit paano ang tiyan ko ay may abs kahit paano naman," the Kapuso primetime queen said.

James Franco's “As I Lay Dying” Receives Outstanding Review from Film Critics

James Franco's “As I Lay Dying” Receives Outstanding Review from Film Critics

James Franco has pulled off a devilishly difficult literary adaptation with this faithful yet cinematically vibrant version of William Faulkner’s novel,” applauds The Hollywood Reporter, while Time Magazine praises, “The effort is honorable, a mixture of mannerism and earned emotion.”

These are just a couple of rave reviews among the many that Millenium Films' poignant drama, “As I Lay Dying” has received from U.S. Critics, following its successful premiere last May at the Cannes Film Festival under the Un Certain Regard section.

Directed by James Franco from a screenplay by Franco and Matt Rager, “As I Lay Dying” is adapted from the 1930 classic American novel by William Faulkner. The story chronicles the Bundren family as they traverse the Mississippi countryside to bring the body of their deceased mother Addie to her hometown for burial.

Addie’s husband Anse and their children, Cash, Darl, Jewel, Dewey Dell, and the youngest one Vardaman, leave the farm on a carriage with her coffin - each affected by Addie’s death in a profound and different way. Their road trip to Jefferson, some forty miles away, is disrupted by every antagonistic force of nature or man: flooded rivers, injury and accident, a raging barn fire, and not least of all -- each individual character’s personal turmoil and inner commotion which at times threaten the fabric of the family more than any outside force.

In his review of “As I Lay Dying” in The New York Times, highly regarded film critic A.O. Scott writes, “[The film] is certainly ambitious, but it is also admirably modest. The script tries to pare Faulkner’s multivoiced narrative to a manageable essence...[conveying] some of Faulkner’s themes, and the details of the Bundren family story, with clarity and concision. All the children pay a terrible price as they obey their father and honor their mother, and their composite story is a catalog of material and moral losses.

Scott adds,“Mr. Franco's tour, as actor and filmmaker, through some of the thickets of 20th-century American history — he has recently tackled Allen Ginsberg, Hart Crane and Cormac McCarthy in addition to Faulkner — has been worth following, not least because he makes his enthusiasm for these writers contagious.”

Meanwhile, influential reviewer Mary Corliss of Time Magazine, writes “[In] many respects this is a faithful and intelligent synopsis of the book. The cast shows similar fidelity to the inflections of these backwoods folk; at times the accents were so thick that the English-speaking audience at Cannes had to consult the French subtitles for clarity. It is an impressive ensemble...But Franco is stronger directing his fellow actors, achieving poignancy in small moments.”

“[This] is by a long way the best of the eight features the mind-bogglingly prolific actor-director-writer has made and is, as such, a big surprise,” declares famed critic Todd McCarthy of The Hollywood Reporter. It’s a strange and loaded tale, one that never had the makings of a popular film for a wide public but which, for connoisseurs of literary adaptations and cinematic challenges, poses significant interest. Franco’s storytelling is confident and sure-handed, both with the camera, which roams around to capture privileged moments, and the actors, who all seem to have seized their characters with their entire beings.”

Finally, Catherine Bray of Time Out, assures, “Faulkner fans need not be up in arms about this version of his Nobel Prize winner. More experienced directors than Franco have come to stickier ends adapting ‘unfilmable’ classics...but it's satisfying to see the novel's set pieces come alive in often visceral sequences.”

“As I Lay Dying” will be shown exclusively at Ayala Malls Cinemas nationwide starting November 27.

Rising Star Chris Pratt Adds Comic Charm to “Delivery Man”

Rising Star Chris Pratt Adds Comic Charm to “Delivery Man”

Actor-on-the-rise Chris Pratt, best known for TV's “Parks and Recreation” and the Oscar-nominated “Moneyball,” now stars opposite Vince Vaughn in DreamWorks Pictures' new life-affirming comedy, “Delivery Man.”

The film tells the story of affable underachiever David Wozniak (Vaughn), whose anonymous donations to a fertility clinic 20 years earlier resulted in 533 children. David must now embark on a journey that leads him to discover not only his true self but also the father that he could become.

Pratt plays David’s best friend Brett, a fledgling lawyer raising four kids on his own. According to Pratt, “Brett is despondent, depressed, fat, at the end of his rope and buried in the responsibility of having four children. He's in a bad spot, and he sees the opportunity to represent David in this class action lawsuit as his last chance to reignite his passion.”

Brett is one of David’s childhood friends,” says Vaughn. “I wouldn’t say that he’s a successful attorney, but he’s an attorney. He’s overwhelmed with being a father himself. He’s doing it on his own. And so, he’s telling David that he shouldn’t be a father, and particularly that David’s not equipped to be a father.

Chris Pratt was our first choice for the part,” says producer Mark Sourian. “And, in fact, so much so, we more or less cast him without an audition or meeting. We felt he was the perfect confidant, for Vince.”

And sure enough, Vaughn and Pratt bonded on the set, quickly becoming each other’s biggest fan. “Chris is terrific,” says Vaughn. “He likes to have fun, he likes to joke around. He would make me laugh everyday on set, so it was easy jumping in and playing friends.

Adds Sourian, “Brett mirrors the situation that David is in, in terms of finding themselves in an extraordinary situation that allows them both as underachievers to step it up and become the best versions of themselves. That's what makes the two of them so endearing. You want to root for them because they're underdogs, and that's part of the reason why you love them so much.”

In February 2014, Pratt will be lending his voice to the Warner Bros. animated feature “The Lego Movie,” as the film’s lead character “Emmett.” Also lending their voices to the film are Will Ferrell, Liam Neeson, Morgan Freeman and Elizabeth Banks.

Pratt is currently in production on the Marvel feature “Guardians of the Galaxy,” where he plays “Star-Lord,” the leader of a group of alien superheroes sent out to defend the galaxy. Disney will release “Guardians” on August 1, 2014.

In addition to acting, Pratt includes among his other passions hunting, fishing and writing. He currently resides in Los Angeles with his wife and son.

Opening across the Philippines on December 04, 2013, “Delivery Man” is a DreamWorks Picture distributed by Walt Disney Studios International.
