Miss Universe 2013 Top 16: Starmometer's Fearless Forecast

Miss Universe 2013 Top 16: Starmometer's Fearless Forecast

Unlike this year’s Miss World pageant where Philippines' very own Megan Young was a clear stand out from beginning to end of the pageant, there’s no absolute front-runner in the Miss Universe 2013. Pageant enthusiasts around the world have mixed predictions on who the winner could be. Even Starmometer’s pick is quite unique.

In making its predictions list, Starmometer give weight to sash factor. They are USA, Venezuela, Puerto Rico, India, Brazil, Philippines (the new member of the group!), Mexico and of course, the host candidate, Russia. But since the site is not a fan of Mexico’s figure and Russia lacks charisma, both countries were both remove from the list.

Another thing to consider is the buzz factor or the candidates who are talk of the town. Philippines, Czech Republic, Russia and Israel belong to this category, but then again, Russia was excluded on the list.

Among the Big 4 pageants, Miss Universe seemed to give weight to supermodel-type of beauties and those who have good catwalk skills during the preliminary competition usually make it to the semi-finals. So this is why Starmometer gave big points to Bolivia, Dominican Republic, France, Israel, Brazil, Venezuela, and Puerto Rico.

Lastly, never underestimate charisma and the x-factor. These are the candidates who have the power to mesmerize the audience with their beauty. Spain, Poland, Ukraine and Turkey top this category.

Check out the Miss Universe 2013 Top 16 according to Starmometer.com HERE.

“Robocop” Second Trailer Released

“Robocop” Second Trailer Released

Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures and Columbia Pictures have revealed the second trailer for highly anticipated action thriller “RoboCop”. View below:

In “RoboCop,” the year is 2028 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the center of robot technology.  Overseas, their drones have been used by the military for years – and it's meant billions for OmniCorp's bottom line.  Now OmniCorp wants to bring their controversial technology to the home front, and they see a golden opportunity to do it.

When Alex Murphy (Joel Kinnaman) – a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit – is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp sees its chance to build a part-man, part-robot police officer.  OmniCorp envisions a RoboCop in every city and even more billions for their shareholders, but they never counted on one thing: there is still a man inside the machine pursuing justice.

“RoboCop” is directed by Jose Padilha and stars Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton, and Samuel L. Jackson, as well as Abbie Cornish, Jackie Earle Haley, Michael K. Williams, Jay Baruchel, Jennifer Ehle, and Marianne Jean-Baptiste.  The screenplay is by Joshua Zetumer, based on the 1987 motion picture written by Edward Neumeier & Michael Miner.  The film is produced by Marc Abraham and Eric Newman, with Bill Carraro and Roger Birnbaum serving as executive producers.

Opening across the Philippines in February 2014, “RoboCop” is distributed by Columbia Pictures, local office of Sony Pictures Releasing International. TV5 Scores High on Social Media

TV5 Scores High on Social Media

A recent study identifies TV5 as the leading broadcast network in the Philippines in terms of social media engagement.

A leading publication, Adobo Magazine, in an article cited Hong Kong-based research firm Ci-8 Social Media Research whose research showed that TV5 was substantially boosted by its high level of Facebook fan engagement, giving the network a social media Share of Voice (SOV) of 45% compared to GMA’s 35% and ABS-CBN’s 20%.

The article credited TV5’s high SOV ranking to the network’s Facebook mentions which “contributed 26% of mentions on its own page, while GMA and ABS-CBN’s share came in at just 2% or under on this score.” The Ci-8 research results also cited the notable gender balance in TV5’s social media audience compared to the predominantly male-skewed GMA and the largely female ABS-CBN audiences. To date, TV5’s Facebook page has a total of almost 1.7 M fans, a feat for the young network which only started its Facebook page in 2010.

Media observers have noted a significant relationship between online audiences and a TV network’s popularity. According to a separate Nielsen Pinoy Netizen Study (based on National Urban data from Q3 2012), there has been a 45% growth in the number of potential 3-screen users since the last quarter of 2010, driven by increased Internet usage among ABC households, Teens and 20-29 year olds. The same study also discovered that 10M Filipinos now go online to share or consume media content, a fact that is most favorable to TV5 in line with the network’s dedicated efforts to synergize all media platforms to address the needs of the growing population of multi-screen users.

TV5 as the country’s foremost champion of digital broadcasting has come up with some notable achievements in this field – including the award-winning Interaksyon.com Traffic Navigator, News5Everywhere, Interaksyon app, Pinoy Hoops app, Kristn app, and Balut radio. The network will also soon launch another groundbreaking application that will revolutionize the way Filipinos watch television: the TV5 App which introduces the Philippines’ first Second Screen Experience that will provide Filipinos with exclusive supplementary content on their mobile devices while they watch TV5’s shows. Going into beta this month, the TV5 app also has a chat function where communities of TV5 viewers can interact in real-time and discuss currently airing episodes thus further boosting the Pinoy’s social media habit.

A Heart Melting Tale of Two Sisters Features in “Frozen”

A Heart Melting Tale of Two Sisters Features in “Frozen”

In Walt Disney Animation Studios' “Frozen,” fearless optimist Anna sets off on an epic journey - teaming up with rugged mountain man Kristoff and his loyal reindeer Sven - to find her sister Elsa, whose icy powers have trapped the kingdom of Arendelle in eternal winter. Encountering Everest-like conditions, mystical trolls and a hilarious snowman named Olaf, Anna and Kristoff battle the elements in a race to save the kingdom.

“Frozen” features the voices of Kristen Bell as Anna, Idina Menzel as Elsa, Jonathan Groff as mountain man Kristoff, and Josh Gad as the lovable snowman Olaf.

The voice cast also includes Santino Fontana as Hans, a handsome royal who catches Anna’s eye, Alan Tudyk as the Duke of Weselton, Chris Williams as Oaken, and Ciarán Hinds as Pabbie.

We wanted the movie to be both timely and timeless,” says director Jennifer Lee. “We were going for something contemporary that everyone would understand and we realized that fear is so often the very thing that gives us a negative outlook, that threatens our relationships. Every single scene, in its own way, supports our themes of family and love, and real love versus fear. And it’s fear that drives Elsa.”

Elsa’s inability to handle her power to create snow and ice is revealed when she and Anna are playing as children. Elsa’s magic delights young Anna - the girls build a snowman they name Olaf and play amidst wild slopes of snow inside their home. But the magic gets out of Elsa’s control and injures Anna. Elsa lives each day thereafter in fear she’ll hurt Anna again, and as a result, avoids the one person she loves most. “Anna, who has no memory of the event, grows up trying to reach out to Elsa,” says director Chris Buck.

Kristen Anderson-Lopez and husband and writing partner Robert Lopez, who worked hand-in-hand with the directors and story team, were struck by the image of Anna getting shut out by her sister. “What could get you more on that girl’s side than seeing doors slam in her face all throughout her childhood?” asks Anderson-Lopez.

We needed to tap into Anna’s emotions,” continues Anderson-Lopez. “We needed to understand her and show what’s missing from the world of this goofy, optimistic young woman. That moment in the film when we see the two sisters on either side of the closed door is one of the most revealing moments in the movie.”

The filmmakers realized that the morning of Elsa’s coronation would represent a new beginning for Anna. The story team wanted to introduce the now-grown-up Anna with a song, but it proved to be a tall order. “This particular song was a tough nut to crack, because it had to do a lot of things,” says Anderson-Lopez. “It had to introduce Anna as an optimistic, active person, but also as someone with a need to be filled over the course of the movie.”

The solution - and title of the song, “For the First Time in Forever” - came from a story-room conversation when someone said the words ‘for the first time in forever’ as part of a story point, catching the ear of president of Walt Disney Music Chris Montan. “I said, ‘That’s it! That’s Anna’s song!’” says Montan. “It was just one of those moments. ‘For the first time in forever, I'm going to be free. I might meet somebody. I might live my life.’ It was really exciting.”

The song ultimately illustrates Anna’s desire for connection, while showcasing just how far apart she is from big sister Elsa. The story of broken family bonds takes a turn when Anna confronts Elsa, inadvertently setting free her sister’s stifled emotions and sparking a wintry outburst that reveals to everyone Elsa’s long-kept secret. Elsa flees Arendelle, leaving a cold and icy kingdom in her wake - and finding the freedom she’s craved.

The realization of Elsa’s long-kept secret inspires Anna to take drastic measures to make things right. Her journey to find Elsa leads her to seek assistance from Kristoff, a rugged mountain man who’d rather not join the adventure. Kristoff and Anna face fierce weather, wolves - and a strangely familiar snowman named Olaf, who takes them - and the audience - by surprise. “When Elsa flees Arendelle,” says Lee, “she starts playing with the very magic she’s been hiding for so long. The snowman she creates comes from memories of the happy times she shared with Anna when they were young. Olaf represents that pure innocence and childhood joy. The minute we imbued him with that, he just took off. He’s funny in a way that children are funny. He’s completely unaffected by the world. He’s the one character who isn’t struggling with fear versus love. He is love.

According to producer Peter Del Vecho, Olaf exemplifies the real beauty of “Frozen.” “It’s chock full of left turns. Though it has everything that audiences will expect from a Disney film - it’s fun and full of heart - it also takes you in unexpected directions. That’s what I love about this movie.”

Opening across the Philippines in 3D and 2D on November 27, “Frozen” is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures International through Columbia Pictures.

Typhoon Yolanda Damages the Philippines (Photos)

Typhoon Yolanda Damages the Philippines (Photos)

Huge waves caused by the winds brought by super Typhoon Yolanda battered seawalls and caused boats to overturn. However, rescuers wasted no time in aiding unlucky seafarers stranded on vessels.

In other areas, Filipinos helped each other take houses to safer areas, much as they did in decades past. However, instead of nipa huts, they transported homes made of metal and wood.

As Yolanda, said to be one of the world’s strongest typhoons, continues to whip the country, Filipinos pledged they would survive and carry on.

Weather bureau PAGASA said Yolanda made landfall over Guiuan, Eastern Samar at 4:40 a.m.

Yolanda was packing maximum sustained winds of 235 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gusts of up to 275 kph.

Megan Young Narrates Near Death Experience in Haiti (Video)

Megan Young Narrates Near Death Experience in Haiti (Video)

An emotional Megan Young recalled the collapse of an orphanage in Haiti she visited along with Miss World chairperson Julia Morley on October 31, 2013.

The incident took place at a Port Au Prince orphanage. According to the Miss World website, some 20 children crowded around the newly-crowned Miss World during the visit on the second floor of the building, before the floor they were standing gave way. The fall left Morley and one of the children, Jonathan, with fractures on the hip and leg, respectively.

The 23-year-old beauty queen, in a video posted on the pageant's official website Thursday, referred to the accident as a "traumatic experience."

Things didn't go exactly as planned today. The team, everyone involved, the kids, we ended up in a traumatic experience. The orphanage that we went to wasn't stable enough for us.

"We went up the stairs, and within seconds, the platform just fell. We fell down, the whole Miss World team, me, the kids that I was with.

"And this is the reason why we do this. This is the reason why we have Beauty with a Purpose. It's to help these kids, and it's to make them feel comfort, that they're loved, and that [they are important].

"At one moment, you're greeting these kids, you're all happy, they're happyAnd then the next second, you're falling down and y. ou don't even know what to do, you're all in shock.

"I think this is even more realization for people. I mean, this is where they live. This is what they go through everyday. And imagine if we hadn't been there to help them, or to realize the state of their home, that it wasn't that safe.

"I think it's more of a reason for us to reach out and to help them in what they need. It's not just here in Haiti, it's all over the world - whether it be in the Philippines or any other place. These kids need attention, and they need that help."

Matteo Guidicelli Experiences Life of Para-Athletes in ‘I Dare You’

Matteo Guidicelli Experiences Life of Para-Athletes in ‘I Dare You’

Viewers will get to see a different Matteo Guidicelli in an inspiring and action-packed episode of “I Dare You” this Saturday (November 9) where he gets to experience the life of an athlete with disability.

Known as a very active triathlete, the actor got the challenge of a lifetime when he went through a series of real-life tasks without one of his legs. “I Dare You” even challenged Matteo to undergo triathlon training as a part of a relay triathlon team with Bidang Kapamilya Al Gutierrez, an amputee. Matteo was even pushed to his limits after his supposed teammate, actress Aubrey Miles quit from the challenge, and was thus forced to carry the burden of being both the team’s runner and swimmer. Matteo had to train hard to compete in a real triathlon against seasoned triathletes, all while juggling around his tapings. Matteo and Al showed the usual dedication and hardwork required of athletes, but were they able to finish the race?

Watch “I Dare You Season 2” with John Prats, Deniesse Aguilar, Robi Domingo, and Melai Cantiveros Saturday night (Nov 9) after “Maalaala Mo Kaya.”

Arnold Clavio Releases Apology on Rude Interview with Napoles Lawyer; "Unang Hirit" Summons by MTRCB

Arnold Clavio Releases Apology on Rude Interview with Napoles Lawyer; "Unang Hirit" Summons by MTRCB

Arnold Clavio, during the Wednesday episode of Unang Hirit, asked for understanding for his recent interview with lawyer Atty. Alfredo Villamor, a day after the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) set a hearing with GMA-7' morning program's management to tackle the "alarming language and scenes" in its November 5 telecast where Clavio's phone interview with Villamor on the phone regarding businesswoman Janet Napoles, the alleged mastermind of the controversial P10-billion pork barrel scam  was tagged as "rude" and "impatient" by televiewers.

According to MTRCB Chairperson Atty. Eugenio Villareal, "Unang Hirit" is under the jurisdiction of the MTRCB as it is registered as a public affairs program, which was given a "Parental Guidance" (PG) rating.

Villareal explained that the supposedly "alarming" interview will be tackled in the November 11 hearing in relation to "community standards."

Now, 'yung segment na ito na onscreen conversation with a lawyer, per their own records ay public affairs. Eh naka-embed 'yan doon sa programang 'yun. Certainly, may posibilidad always na may mga batang manonood na baka mapulot ito at cause of concern para sa atin 'yan.

"Kailangang may respeto kahit kanino man. Dahil nga ang binigay na rating dito ay PG, ibig sabihin niyan, alam nating may batang manonood. At 'yung ibibigay nating ehemplo sa kanila sa... ay kung paano tayo nakikipag-usap sa nagiging guest o nai-interview.

And we're here actually to help dahil magandang pag-usapan na ito dahil ang segment ay nasa kalagitnaan ng public affairs program. Paano natin maso-solve? At pa'no maiiwasan? At sinong responsable? Kaya nga nagpatawag kami ng isang conference kung saan maaring ilahad ang nangyari, pa'no ma-prevent, at best practices,"
