Judy Ann Santos "Bet On Your Baby" Set to Change the Way You Treat Your Kids

Judy Ann Santos "Bet On Your Baby" Set to Change the Way You Treat Your Kids

In a family treat with a message that is very much close to her heart, acclaimed television personality and hands-on mother Judy Ann Santos-Agoncillo stands proud to share both education and enjoyment as host of the Philippines’ newest game show “Bet On Your Baby”.

Seeing it fit for how she is and who she is, Judy Ann has been especially excited venturing into this new project, which is designed for families with children aged two to three and a half years old. Through a series of games, it aims to prove the importance of having a strong bond between parents and their kids.

When the show was presented to me, and when I got the whole feel of ‘Bet On Your Baby’, I was so entertained by seeing how they kids were really just playing,” said Judy Ann, who found a great sense of enjoyment from her first taping sessions. Aside from that, the show’s games are designed in ways that allow for the children to learn while playing, making her even more eager to take on being the show’s host.

Being an advocate of creating strong connections with her children, she finds a certain thrill in discovering what they’re capable of on a daily basis, which she also sees in what her guests bring to the floor. According to Judy Ann, “There’s a point of conversation with you and the parents that join the show. We can relate to each other.

Judy Ann also immediately took a liking to the kids that she has met through the show so far. “It’s easy to love the program because you’re dealing with babies, and you can’t go wrong with that,” she said.

This connection that she formed with the families that she has met on the show so far is one that she hopes will branch out to inspire other Filipino families, especially with the show presenting techniques that parents and children can take into their own homes.

I’m just hopeful that we can inspire people to enjoy having their kids around. ‘Bet On Your Baby’ is here to help parents enjoy their kids more. Besides, being a parent, I learned that when it comes to your children, you don’t want to miss any moment. It’s important to be beside them in whatever they go through. I think when you come to that point, it’s true that you become selfless. It’s true that you smile without reason. All of a sudden, there’s so much more value in your being alive.”

“Bet On Your Baby”, hosted by Judy Ann Santos, is set to hit Philippine television this October. For updates on the program, visit and like “Bet On Your Baby” on Facebook (www.facebook.com/betonyourbabyph) and follow @betonyourbabyph on Twitter or betonyourbabyphilippines on Instagram.

Megan Young Miss World 2013 Disqualification Reports

Megan Young Miss World 2013 Disqualification Reports

Megan Young is a shoo-in for the Miss World 2013 title. One day before the coronation night, an issue is being thrown at her that could jeopardize her chances of winning the blue crown.

Megan Young increased her chances of taking home the first ever Miss World title to the Philippines by being one of the 10 finalists in the Top Model Competition. This is a great addition to her Top 11 finish in the Beach Fashion contest two weeks ago. But as Megan moves on top of the Miss World point system and to the crown, her topless photos in Rogue Magazine starts to dampen her chances, similar to what the photos did to her unsuccessful bid to join Binibining Pilipinas.

The International Business Times, a UK-based news agency where the headquarters of the Miss World Organization is also based, published on its website www.ibtimes.co.uk that Megan’s topless poses in the March 2012 issue of Rogue Magazine, a magazine circulated in the Philippines “has surfaced and drawn ire from the fans.”

Rules are rules when it comes to the Miss World beauty contest. It seems that contestants taking their clothes off is a clear breach of the laws”, says one user who sent a letter to IBTimes UK but she requested anonymity. I am not sure though if she cited specific laws in the Miss World charter or if there is that law. God knows what other jealous contestants can do to put Megan down now that she is leading the contest together with Australia’s Erin Victoria Holland, Brazil’s Sancler Frantz, France’s Marine Lorphelin, Italy’s Sarah Baderna, Spain’s Elena Ibarbia and Ukraine’s Anna Zayachkivska. It’s intriguing though how the letter sender requested anonymity. Continue reading HERE.

Lea Salonga Talks About Love, Happiness, Motherhood, Filipino Talents and Secrets to Being Bright and Beautiful

Lea Salonga Talks About Love, Happiness, Motherhood, Filipino Talents and Secrets to Being Bright and Beautiful

Her crystal-clear singing first caught people’s attention when she was seven years old. A career in television, memorable movie appearances, and a long, fruitful and successful association with the stage have earned Lea Salonga the respect of the world. Now the fun, vivacious coach on "The Voice of the Philippines" talks to StarStudio about lessons she’s learned, her thoughts on sexuality, and - get this - coconut oil in her coffee.

"Love is never to be taken for granted. Every relationship takes work, but it shouldn’t feel like it’s back-breaking, bone-crushing work."

"Happiness is relative because everyone has a different definition of it. Like when I’m coaching somebody on 'The Voice of the Philippines,' and they get something that I’ve given, or they are doing something that I told them to do, it makes me feel happy."

"Mothers are extremely underlauded. They are not celebrated enough, given that these women will go through so much heartbreak for no pay and do everything out of love… and they’re often taken for granted. They have to be celebrated more."

"A woman is never to be taken lightly. I was in a home where my mom is the king. I was brought up in an industry where the first director and first musical director I worked with were women. So a lot of my firsts in the industry were with women."

"The Filipino voice is competitive. And I just don’t mean singing-wise: when you have people like Patricia Evangelista who wins a speech contest in the UK; and then when you have people like Charice, you have people like apl. de.ap, people like Arnel Pineda—these are people who are just so good they cannot be ignored by the world at large."

"Sexuality is personal. You can’t pigeonhole people into a certain sexuality. It’s not a static thing. I am not gonna let somebody say, 'Oh! You’re a straight woman, therefore…' How I express myself is my own. Nobody can define that."

"Haters are fans in disguise, at least that’s what some people say."

"Tomorrow is another opportunity for anything. There’s always a possibility to get right something you might have gotten wrong the day before."

"Call me crazy, but I actually put butter and coconut oil in my coffee. My husband and I found on the Internet this recipe called Bulletproof Coffee. And the purpose of it is that the combination of caffeine and the healthy oils in the butter and the coconut oil help you become more mentally aware. Mental acuity is the gain."

"You’re never too old to look really, really, really, good. I’m getting compliments on how I look on 'The Voice of the Philippines' and I think more compliments on my looks in my entire life than I did in my 20s and 30s."

"You are never too young to be considered knowledgeable about something. You can be 18 years old pero 'yun pala you’re like some genius. Do not ever underestimate somebody young."

"The Filipino race is a force to be reckoned with and respected."

"Take everything from me except my family. Take away my ability to sing; that’s fine."

ER Ejercito Disqualified by COMELEC as Laguna Governor

Actor-politician Emilio Ramon "ER" Ejercito has been disqualified as Laguna Governor by the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) for election overspending.

The announcement came a day after COMELEC Chairman Sixto Brillantes Jr. said a "known political figure" would be disqualified for excessive spending during the May 2013 elections.

In an interview after announcing the decision of the Comelec's first division, Brillantes said Ejercito, who is also an actor, spent more than P6 million in television advertisements alone during the campaign period for the mid-term polls.

As Gubernatorial candidate in Laguna, which has 1,525,522 voters, Brillantes said Ejercito is allowed to spend only P4.5 million for his entire campaign under Comelec Resolution No. 9615, which limits spending to “three pesos (P3.00) for every voter currently registered in the constituency where the candidate filed his certificate of candidacy.”

Brillantes said Ejercito, won the elections with 549,310 votes, has five days to file a motion for reconsideration on his disqualification. - interaksyon.com

Sharon Cuneta to Senator Jinggoy Estrada: "Hindi kami magnanakaw!"

Sharon Cuneta to Senator Jinggoy Estrada: "Hindi kami magnanakaw!"

Politics are getting in the way of the tried and tested (?) friendship between Sharon Cuneta and Senator Jinggoy Estrada. Will their good relationships surpassed the test of the recent pork barrel controversies?

In Senator Jinggoy’s privilege speech on Wednesday, September 25, the controversial Senator accused the Department of Justice of its alleged selective justice particularly asking the agency to also looked on other Senators including Sharon's husband Francis "Kiko" Pangilinan's involvement in the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) scam when the latter served as a Senator from 2001 to 2013.

To her husband's defense, Sharon, on her official Twitter account @sharon_cuneta12 said "Hindi kami magnanakaw. His pork barrel was all well-accounted for, napunta sa lahat nang dapat puntahan,"

The Megastar also added (these series of tweets are now deleted), “If anyone reading this can prove to me that my husband has stolen any amount from his PDAF in his 12 years as senator, I will give you P10 million in cash and I will leave my husband. That is how confident I am. Hindi kami tulad ng iba na kaya ipakain sa mga anak naming ang perang di amin o di naming pinaghihirapan. Hindi pare-pareho ang lahat ng politico. Dahan-dahan lang. Dapat mag-umpisa nang maglabasan ang totoo ngayon,”

But contrary to Sharon's statements, the Commission on Audit (COA) said they saw some questionable transactions and projects that were funded with Pangilinan's Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) or pork barrel from 2007 to 2009.

In a 462-page special report, the COA said that several Quezon City-based projects partly funded with Pangilinan's PDAF do not have documentary support and have been transacted questionably including the P7.3 million barangay office equipment for at least 17 barangays in Quezon City, the P1.063 million unaccounted purchased of an Apple Macbook laptop, a Nikon DSLR camera, a laminating machine, Sharp DVD player, Sony digital cameras, 19" Samsung LCD monitor among others for supposed needs of an undisclosed barangay in Quezon City, the P2-million construction projects for barangays South Triangle and Kamuning repair of roads, building of public toilets and concreting and the P599,000 feeding program and distribution of medicines for, likewise, an undisclosed recipients.

Sandra Bullock Missing

Sandra Bullock Missing

In casting the lead character Dr. Ryan Stone in Warner Bros.' new thriller “Gravity,” who is in nearly every frame of the film, director Alfonso Cuarón knew he needed an actress who could handle both the physical and psychological demands of the role, which were equally daunting. He found her in Sandra Bullock, whom producer David Heyman calls “a brilliant actor working at the height of her powers. She brought such truth and conviction to her performance.”

In the film, Ryan Stone (Bullock) is a brilliant medical engineer on her first shuttle mission, with veteran astronaut Matt Kowalski (George Clooney) in command. But on a seemingly routine mission, disaster strikes. The shuttle is destroyed, leaving Stone and Kowalski completely alone - tethered to nothing but each other and spiraling out into the blackness. The deafening silence tells them they have lost any link to Earth…and any chance for rescue. As fear turns to panic, every gulp of air eats away at what little oxygen is left. But the only way home may be to go further out into the terrifying expanse of space.

When we meet Mission Specialist Ryan Stone, she is all business, concentrating on the task at hand and not engaging in the playful exchange between the other astronauts and Mission Control. Even Matt Kowalski’s unending tall stories - all-too-familiar to those back in Houston - fail to distract Ryan as she works to implement her new scanning system on the Hubble Telescope. However, her focus and detachment are not driven by the job but by a personal tragedy.

Ryan suffered a devastating loss,” says Bullock. “When I started delving into the character, I had to ask myself what I would do, and I’d probably do exactly the same thing she did. She withdrew. When Alfonso and I started talking about the character, it was clear we shared an understanding of her and also had the same questions. Why do we retreat when tragedy strikes, when being with others is what can save you? How often are we hit by life and won’t ask for help? In a way, what Ryan goes through is a compelling allegory for ‘Be careful what you wish for.’ She wanted to be alone and she got it.

One of the major themes of the film is that element of isolation,” Cuarón relates. “But it can be very scary for an actor to spend huge chunks of screen time on her own, not interacting with another human being. Sandra and I had many discussions about finding the balance between what she would say or not say, or by what actions she would express what Ryan is feeling. We agreed there should be a level of ambiguity to her character, but we also needed to anchor her emotionally. I think Sandra dug into some really dark corners to deliver what she did in her performance. I was more than thrilled and extremely grateful to her.”

Bullock has equal praise for her director. “It was the most collaborative experience I’ve ever had. I’ve admired Alfonso for so long, but working with him exceeded all my expectations. He is a master filmmaker and collaborator, who makes everyone around him want to give their best. He’s also an extraordinary human being…I mean, someone who is not involved emotionally, philosophically and spiritually could not have made something so profound.”

While aspects of her character evolved through Bullock’s conversations with the director, there were several constants that remained, beginning with Ryan being female. Co-screenwriter Jonás Cuarón says, “It was always important to us that the central character be a woman, because we felt there was an understated but vital correlation of her being a maternal presence against the backdrop of Mother Earth.

Apart from that, the screenwriters needed Ryan to be an untested astronaut, who was there for her scientific expertise. “She, of course, had some training,” Jonás notes, “but she is a mission specialist, not a pilot, so when the shuttle is destroyed, she is unprepared to deal with such an extreme situation.”

Opening across the Philippines in October 3 in IMAX 3D, Digital 3D, 2D and regular theatres, “Gravity” is distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment company.

"Be Careful with My Heart" to be Replaced by "Kaleidoscope World"

"Be Careful with My Heart" to be Replaced by "Kaleidoscope World"

A dance-musical that pays tribute to OPM icon Francis Magalona is now set to compete in this year's Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF), following the withdrawal of the film version of "Be Careful With My Heart" from the race.

Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chairperson Francis Tolentino announced Wednesday that "Kaleidoscope World," which shares the title of the Magalona hit, has been selected to complete the eight-film line-up of the 39th MMFF.

Produced by iACT Production, the big-screen musical, according to Tolentino, stars Sef Cadayona, Yassi Pressman, Pia Pilapil, and Alma Concepcion.

"Kaleidoscope World" joins seven other earlier announced entries: the action/thriller films "10,000 Hours" and "Boy Golden"; the comedy-adventures "Torky and My Little Bossing," "Kimmy Dora: Ang Kiyemeng Prequel," and "Girl, Boy, Bakla, Tomboy"; the horror flick "Pagpag"; and the biopic "San Pedro Calungsod: Batang Martir."

Directed by Chito Roño and starring ER Ejercito, "Boy Golden" is similarly an additional entry, as it replaced the Bong Revilla-starrer "My Super Kap" after it was pulled out from the MMFF.

Both "Kaleidoscope World" and "Boy Golden" were among the 15 film submissions to the MMFF announced in June, qualifying them to join the competition in place of official entries withdrawn before the Christmas Day opening.

Tolentino cited this rule in explaining why Star Cinema, the film outfit behind "Be Careful With My Heart," was no longer allowed to submit a different story to replace the daytime series' big-screen version.

Tolentino earlier appealed to Star Cinema to reconsider its decision to pull out "Be Careful With My Heart," but according to him, the ABS-CBN film arm instead proposed a new project.

"For a while, I mulled the possibility of opening the final slot to new movies, including 'My Husband's Lover' (GMA-7 series). But it is in violation of the existing rules of the MMFF," Tolentino said.

With the completion of the eight official entries to the MMFF, Tolentino expressed confidence that the 39th edition of the annual event will surpass last year's gross sales. - ABS-CBNNews.com
