ABS-CBN Continues to Rule National TV Ratings in June

ABS-CBN Continues to Rule National TV Ratings in June

ABS-CBN, the country’s largest and leading multimedia conglomerate, led all TV networks in terms of viewership as measured by the national TV ratings last June, with a recorded average total day audience share of 43%, up by a point from the previous month and 11 points higher than GMA’s 32%, according to data from Kantar Media.

Kantar Media uses a nationwide panel size of 2,609 urban and rural homes that represent 100% of the total Philippine TV viewing population, while the other ratings data supplier AGB Nielsen reportedly has only 1,980 homes based solely in urban areas that represent only 57% of the Philippine TV viewing population.

ABS-CBN also continued its winning streak on primetime (6PM-12MN) as Filipinos nationwide tuned in to its news and entertainment programs, enjoying a one-point increase to an average audience share of 47%, or 17 points ahead of GMA’s 30%. Primetime is the most important timeblock when most Filipinos watch TV and advertisers put a larger chunk of their investment in to reach more consumers efficiently.

ABS-CBN’s primetime lead was bolstered by family drama “Ina Kapatid Anak” that ended its eight-month run with an average national TV rating of 35.3% for June. Its finale episode on June 14, meanwhile, garnered a whopping 42.9%.

“Maalaala Mo Kaya” still remains as the number one weekend program, rising four points from the previous month to 34.8% in June.

It was followed by superhero drama “Juan Dela Cruz” (34%), the recently concluded talent reality show “Pilipinas Got Talent 4” (30.4%), and “Wansapanataym” (30%).

The Twitter-trending and much-talked about singing-reality show “The Voice of the Philippines,” meanwhile, hit an average national TV rating of 29.4% for its first six episodes featuring the unique Blind Auditions round.

Queen of Pinoy Soap Opera Judy Ann Santos’ comeback teleserye “Huwag Ka Lang Mawawala,” on the other hand, premiered strongly with an average national TV rating of 27.3% for June, while “TV Patrol” is still the undisputed newscast in the country with 27.1%.

Kantar Media’s report showed that 12 out of the top 15 regular airing programs in June were produced by ABS-CBN, which also include the top-rating daytime program “Be Careful With My Heart” (24.5%), “Rated K” (23.9%), “Goin’ Bulilit” (19.7%), and “Apoy sa Dagat” (19.5%).

Sports fanatics also tuned in to ABS-CBN’s live coverage of the NBA Finals between the Miami Heat and San Antonio Spurs that earned a national TV rating of 22.7%.

ABS-CBN, meanwhile, won in other key territories on total day and earned audience share of 44% vs GMA’s 34% in Balance Luzon (areas in Luzon outside Mega Manila);
51% vs GMA’s 26% in the Visayas; and 55% vs GMA’s 22% in Mindanao.

Kantar Media is a leading television (TV) audience measurement provider with capabilities in gathering TV viewing data in both digital and analog platforms. It is a multinational market research group that specializes in audience measurement in more than 80 countries, has 26 TV networks, ad agencies, and pan-regional networks subscribing to its ratings services.

Among its current subscribers are ABS-CBN, NBN, Sky Cable, J. Romero and Associates, 720ConsumerConnect, Starcom, OMD, PhD, Mediacom, Mindshare, MEC, Maxus, Universal McCann, Wellmade Manufacturing Corporation, Brand Ideas, and MPG Havas. They also include pan-regional networks like CSM Media Inc., Fox International Channels, Star HK, Discovery, AXN, HBO, MTV, Sony Pictures Television International, Celestial Tiger, and A&E Television Network.

Among these, the following subscribe to both urban and rural TV audience measurement: ABS-CBN, Brand Ideas, MPG Havas, and 720ConsumerConnect.

ABS-CBN earlier reported a net income increase of 66% to P508 million in the first quarter of 2013 from P306 million in the same period last year, due to strong regular advertising revenues and election-related ads.

GMA Network Remains the Undisputed Ratings Leader in Urban Luzon and Mega Manila in June

GMA Network Remains the Undisputed Ratings Leader in Urban Luzon and Mega Manila in June

GMA Network, Inc. (GMA) remains undisputed in Urban Luzon and Mega Manila after leading other television networks in terms of total day household audience share for the entire month of June. This is according to data from the industry’s more widely recognized ratings service provider Nielsen TV Audience Measurement.

For the period June 1 to 30 (June 23 to 30 based on overnight data), GMA garnered an average total day audience share of 35.2 percent in Urban Luzon; higher than ABS-CBN’s 32.1 percent by 3.1 points, and TV5’s 13.3 percent by 21.9 points. Urban Luzon represents 76 percent of the total urban TV household population in the entire country.

16 out of the 30 top performing programs in Urban Luzon were from GMA with the multi-awarded news magazine program Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho leading the roster of Kapuso shows. It was followed closely by the weekly drama anthology Magpakailanman and primetime soaps Anna Karenina and Mundo Mo’y Akin.

The list also includes reality sitcom Pepito Manaloto: Ang Tunay na Kuwento, GMA’s flagship newscast 24 Oras, newly launched drama My Husband’s Lover, the country’s longest noontime show Eat Bulaga, Saturday night comedy program Vampire Ang Daddy Ko, recently concluded series Love & Lies, and comedy game show Celebrity Bluff.

Nielsen data also showed that hard-hitting public affairs program Imbestigador, early noontime talk show The Ryzza Mae Show, the country’s longest running comedy show Bubble Gang, afternoon family drama One Day Isang Araw, and the koreanovela Queen and I were popular among audiences in Urban Luzon.

In its bailiwick Mega Manila, where 59 percent of the total urban television households nationwide are found, GMA continues to edge out competition as it posted a 36.4 percent total day audience share average. The Kapuso Network led ABS-CBN by 6 points with 30.4 percent and TV5 by 21.9 points with only 14.5 percent.

Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho emerged as the number one program in Mega Manila, where relative to ABS-CBN, more GMA programs figured in the list.

16 other programs from GMA made it to the top programs list including Magpakailanman, Mundo Mo’y Akin, Anna Karenina, and My Husband’s Lover.

Not to be left behind are 24 Oras, Eat Bulaga, Pepito Manaloto: Ang Tunay na Kuwento, Love & Lies, Vampire Ang Daddy Ko, Celebrity Bluff, Imbestigador, The Ryzza Mae Show, Bubble Gang, Queen and I, One Day Isang Araw, and Kapuso Movie Night.

Magpakailanman, Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho, and Vampire ang Daddy Ko were also included in the top programs list in Urban Visayas.

GMA reaffirmed its leadership in the afternoon block after increasing its audience share in National Urban Television Audience Measurement (NUTAM) ratings, as well as in Urban Luzon and Mega Manila, beating competition by significant margins.

GMA and TV5 subscribe to Nielsen TV Audience Measurement while ABS-CBN is the lone local major TV network that reportedly subscribes to Kantar Media, formerly known as TNS.

In Mega Manila, Nielsen TV Audience Measurement gathers data based on a sample size of 1,190 homes as compared to Kantar Media's 770 homes. Meanwhile, Nielsen has a nationwide urban sample size of 2,000 homes, which is statistically higher than Kantar's sample size of 1,370.

Judy Ann Santos Breaks Own Teleserye Record

Judy Ann Santos Breaks Own Teleserye Record

Judy Ann Santos' comeback drama series broke its own record in nationwide ratings twice last week, as it breached the 30% mark as the country's second most watched weekday program.

The national TV ratings of "Huwag Ka Lang Mawawala," as measured by multi-national market research group Kantar media, soared in the last week of June as the story of the ABS-CBN primetime series made pivotal turns with Santos' character Anessa finally choosing to stand up to her husband and his family.

Throughout the week of June 24, the Primetime Bida offering only ranked second to its lead-in series, "Juan dela Cruz," which is still the most watched TV program nationwide.

Starting Tuesday, June 25, the nationwide ratings of "Huwag Ka Lang Mawawala" steadily increased until it reached its highest registered rating ever of 29.2% on Thursday, June 27 -- just 10 days after its premiere.

Friday, June 28, saw another milestone in the series' viewership in both rural and urban areas, when it breached the 30% mark to beat its own record set the previous day with 31.2% in national TV ratings.

Kantar Media uses a nationwide panel size of 2,609 urban and rural homes, representing 100% of the total Philippine TV viewing population.

In episodes of "Huwag Ka Lang Mawawala" aired last week, a pregnant Anessa stood firm on her decision to separate from Eros (Sam Milby) after an abusive relationship.

Coerced by her husband's family to reunite with him, Anessa fled to safety in the company of her mother (Susan Africa) and brother (Joseph Marco).

Anessa also welcomed her husband's mistress Alexis (KC Concepcion) into her home only to physically confront her in a scene anticipated by followers of the program.

"Huwag Ka Lang Mawawala" airs weeknights after the Coco Martin-starrer "Juan dela Cruz" during ABS-CBN's Primetime Bida block.

Hollywood Actor Channing Tatum Tweets Mabuhay Greetings for Pinoy Fans

Hollywood Actor Channing Tatum Tweets Mabuhay Greetings for Pinoy Fans

Channing Tatum tweeted on Tuesday morning a Mabuhay greeting to the Philippines with an invitation for Filipinos to watch his new action thriller “White House Down.”

The actor tweeted:

Directed by Roland Emmerich, the film tells of Capitol Policeman John Cale (Tatum) has just been denied his dream job with the Secret Service of protecting President James Sawyer. Not wanting to let down his little girl with the news, he takes her on a tour of the White House, when the complex is overtaken by a heavily armed paramilitary group. Now, with the nation’s government falling into chaos and time running out, it’s up to Cale to save his daughter, the president, and the country.

“White House Down” is distributed by Columbia Pictures, local office of Sony Pictures Releasing International.

Charlie Hunnam from "Sons of Anarchy" to "Pacific Rim"

Charlie Hunnam from "Sons of Anarchy" to "Pacific Rim"

He's best known for his starring role as Jackson “Jax” Teller in TV's “Sons of Anarchy,” the highest-rated drama in the FX network’s history. Now, Charlie Hunnam as embattled Jaeger pilot Raleigh Becket in Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures' futuristic action adventure “Pacific Rim.”

In the film, when legions of monstrous alien creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are synched via a neural bridge, called “The Drift.” But as the enemy grows more powerful with each attack, even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju.

On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes - a washed up former pilot (Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi) - who are teamed to drive a seemingly obsolete Jaeger. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

Director Guillermo Del Toro emphasizes, “The robot is only as good a fighter as the fighters inside. Ultimately, the most important dynamic that determines who pilots the Jaegers, and how effective they’ll be, is the relationship between the people.”

Early in the Jaeger program, it was discovered that the complexity and sheer size of the robots made it impossible for one person to handle alone. The neural load proved fatal for a single brain. Eventually, they learned that it could only be done with two pilots: one controlling the Jaeger’s right hemisphere; the other, the left. But in order for that to work, they had to be in perfect sync - connected to the robot in body, and to each other in mind.

That mental fusion is known as “The Drift.” Del Toro notes, “The two pilots become one unit, fused with each other and with the machine. But in order to do that, you have to be prepared to let somebody literally peek into your mind…into your soul.”

That theory resulted in most Jaeger co-pilot teams being immediate family, as is the case with Raleigh Becket and his older brother, Yancy, played by Diego Klattenhoff.

As soon as the Jaegers started gaining the upper hand against the monstrous invaders, their heroic pilots became nothing less than rock stars to a grateful and adoring public. When we meet Raleigh, he has the swagger of a Jaeger jockey who is on top of the world. Says Charlie Hunnam, “He’s young and full of bravado and lives to kick ass against the Kaiju. He’s doing very well piloting his Jaeger, Gipsy Danger, with his brother, but in their desire to protect humanity, they disobey an order, which turns out to be a tragic mistake that forces Raleigh to leave the Jaeger corps behind.

Del Toro comments, “Raleigh is a man who is basically goodhearted and genuinely earnest and brave. He knows he has a dangerous job, but he has a code of honor that makes him willing to put his life on the line to save another life, despite any risk. Charlie Hunnam was the perfect choice to play Raleigh because he is able to convey that sincerity and purity of heart, and that mix of toughness and vulnerability. I’ve admired his work for years and believe he is on the brink of movie stardom. I was so happy to have the chance to direct him on this film.”

Hunnam had met del Toro years earlier and mentions that they also “have Ron Perlman in common,” referring to his “Sons of Anarchy” series castmate and longtime friend of the director. He continues, “I got a call saying that Guillermo was interested in me for this new film. We met and he gave me a vague outline of the story and who the character was. Then, about a week later, he called and offered it to me. Of course I said yes, and that was the first time in my career that I committed to a project without first reading the script. It was a leap of faith because, script or no script, I was signing on to work with Guillermo. He’s in a class of his own in both his imagination and his ability to bring together fantastical but fully dimensional worlds that you can believe in.”

Opening across the Philippines in July 11 in IMAX 3D, Digital 3D, 2D and regular theaters, “Pacific Rim” will be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

“Monsters University” Grosses P58.22-M in 5 Days

“Monsters University” Grosses P58.22-M in 5 Days

Disney/Pixar’s comedy adventure “Monsters University” graduated at the top of Philippine box-office with honors as it amassed a sensational P58.22-million nationwide gross for its five-day opening weekend June 26-30.  This was announced today by Victor R. Cabrera, managing director of Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures Philippines.

“Monsters University’s” opening now represents the most successful launch for a Pixar title, outpacing the old record of 2010’s “Toy Story 3” at P55.6-million.  Industry-wide, it nabbed the second biggest opening ever for an animated title, as well as the fifth highest bow ever for a Disney film – animated or live-action.

In the U.S., the prequel to the 2001 blockbuster “Monsters, Inc.” was No. 1 for the second consecutive weekend, reaching a stellar $171 million through Sunday.  The movie has so far earned just north of $300 million worldwide, including nearly $130 million from 37 overseas territories.

Back in the Philippines, “Monsters U” rolled out in 132 screens, posting its largest receipts from SM North EDSA with P2.71-M, followed by SM Mall of Asia with P2.46-M and Trinoma at P2.38-M.

Also performing exceedingly well are Power Plant (P2.36-M), SM Megamall (P2.01-M), Glorietta 4 (P1.74-M), Eastwood (P1.52-M), Greenbelt 3 (P1.40-M), Alabang Town Center (P1.38-M) and SM Southmall (P1.32-M).

Rounding up the Top 20 cinemas are Newport City (P1.17-M), Gateway (P1.14-M), SM Fairview (P1.09-M), Robinsons Galleria (P1.027-M), Festival Mall (P1.025-M), Shang Cineplex (P1.01-M), SM Marikina (P 979,642), SM San Lazaro (P 958,300), Ayala Cebu (P 906,156) and Robinsons Ermita (P 876,422).

Screaming with laughter and oozing with heart, “Monsters University” tells of the early adventures of monsters Mike and Sulley as college students.  Ever since Mike Wazowski (voice of Billy Crystal) was a little monster, he has dreamed of becoming a Scarer—and he knows better than anyone that the best Scarers come from Monsters University (MU). But during his first semester at MU, Mike’s plans are derailed when he crosses paths with hotshot James P. Sullivan, “Sulley” (voice of John Goodman), a natural-born Scarer.  The pair’s out-of-control competitive spirit gets them both kicked out of the University’s elite Scare Program. To make matters worse, they realize they will have to work together, along with an odd bunch of misfit monsters, if they ever hope to make things right.

Now playing across the Philippines in Disney Digital 3D, 2D and regular theaters, “Monsters University” is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures International through Columbia Pictures.

Claudine Barretto Joins Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla in "Pagpag"; "My Lady Boss" Rated B by CEB

Reports have it that trouble actress Claudine Barretto is set to join the country's hottest loveteam Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla in MMFF 2013 movie entry "Pagpag".

Question: Sino ang nanggagamit at sino ang magagamit sa pagpasok ni Claudine sa KathNiel tandem?

***

Marian Rivera's lovescene with Richard Gutierrez on top of a conference room table and her half-naked shower scenes are two of the most much-see scenes in the movie "My Lady Boss" showing tomorrow, July 3, in theaters nationwide.

Despite the scenes, the MTRCB has given the film a "General Patronage" rating. It also received "B" grade from the Cinema Evaluation Board (CEB).

This movie is worth the wait, I must say.

Despite the huge ticket price, Anne Curtis was able to filled-out the 1,200 seater Pechanga Theater in California during her two-night "Annebisyosa: No Other Concert World Tour" last June 15 and 16.

Dreams do come true.

Asked why he agreed to have an intimate scene with veteran sexy actress Vivian Velez in TV5's mini-series "Misibis Bay," Luke Jickain said "She still looks hot. Cougar hot".
