It’s an action series with a heart,” he said. “and since it’s about families, many people can relate to the characters. Aside from the fight scenes, a lot of viewers follow my dramatic scenes with my two mothers in the story. Because Victor becomes emotional whenever he is with Isabel (Sunshine Cruz) and Elena (Ana Capri).”

Nora Aunor and Tirso Cruz III Love Scene in "When I Fall In Love"; Julia Barretto No Longer Stars in "Cofradia"

Nora Aunor and Tirso Cruz III will soon reunite in TV5's romance-drama soap "When I Fall In Love". Highlight of the said reunion, according to source, is the love scene between the two veteran stars.

If they failed to do it in their past movies, why not do it now? Better if they not do it na din at all due to a very obvious reason.

Jodi Sta. Maria spotted kissing Cavite Vice-Governor  Jolo Revilla during the latter's oath-taking  in Sta. Cruz, Tanza, Cavite.

Pa-deny-deny. Pa-kiss-kiss. 'Di na nakapag-pigil. Showbiz na showbiz.

Star Cinema's "Four Sisters and a Wedding" and GMA Films' "My Lady Boss" both graded B ng Cinema Evaluation Board (CEB).

Congratulations! This means both movies are equally good. But do we expect the same fate in the box-office.

Richard Gutierrez decided to go freelance.

According to GMA-7: "The exclusive television contract of Richard Gutierrez with GMA Network expired on May 28, 2013. As mutually agreed upon by both parties, Richard is now a freelance actor for television and still has a live contract with GMA Films.  We thank him for the 11 years of being an exclusive Kapuso and wish him well in his future endeavors."

Sino ang nag-gain, sino ang nawalan?

Julia Barretto will no longer star in the TV remake of "Cofradia" as ABS-CBN decided not to push through with the project.

How sad!

According to ABS-CBN insider, Julia will star in a new TV project much suited to her image, and career path.

Philippine ‘Global Smurfs Day’ a Huge Success

Philippine ‘Global Smurfs Day’ a Huge Success

In celebration of the birthday of Peyo, the creator of the Smurfs, the world celebrated Global Smurfs Day last June 22, anticipating the release of “The Smurfs 2” in Philippine theaters August 7.

In the Philippines, families and fans flocked for fun-filled festivities at the SM Mall of Asia atrium where they enjoyed a Smurftastic afternoon of lively games, blue-frosted cupcakes, Lala Smurf song sing-offs, and art activities for kids.

This was the second celebration of Global Smurfs Day in what has quickly become a tradition. In 2011, the round-the-world events included painting one of the famous White Towns of Andalusia blue and setting a new record for Largest Gathering of People Dressed as Smurfs within a 24-hour Period (Multiple Venues).

This year, the studio has lined up an equally impressive program of events, highlighted by a worldwide Smurf Ambassadors initiative, in which over 40 ambassadors from 28 countries (including the Philippines) represented Smurfs fans from around the world with a special day of events celebrating Peyo’s creation.

The Smurf ambassadors dressed as Smurfs began their day in Brussels, where Peyo’s daughter Veronique Culliford officially appointed them as Smurf representatives of their countries. Freshly charged with their ambassadorial duties, the group boarded a Thalys train and shot off to Paris, the locale of the adventures in Columbia Pictures / Sony Pictures Animation’s “The Smurfs 2.” With a few surprises in store and a sightseeing tour of the French capital, the ambassadors were tasked with a mission that is the stuff of high diplomacy: to leave a happy trail of blue smiles in their wake, and herald the arrival of the new film.

In this sequel to Columbia Pictures / Sony Pictures Animation’s hybrid live action/animated family blockbuster comedy The Smurfs™, the evil wizard Gargamel creates a couple of mischievous Smurf-like creatures called the Naughties that he hopes will let him harness the all-powerful, magical Smurf-essence. But when he discovers that only a real Smurf can give him what he wants, and only a secret spell that Smurfette knows can turn the Naughties into real Smurfs, Gargamel kidnaps Smurfette and brings her to Paris, where he has been winning the adoration of millions as the world’s greatest sorcerer. It’s up to Papa, Clumsy, Grouchy, and Vanity to return to our world, reunite with their human friends Patrick and Grace Winslow, and rescue her! Will Smurfette, who has always felt different from the other Smurfs, find a new connection with theNaughties Vexy and Hackus or will the Smurfs convince her that their love for her is True Blue?

The film is directed by Raja Gosnell and produced by Jordan Kerner. The screenplay is by J. David Stem & David N. Weiss and Jay Scherick & David Ronn and Karey Kirkpatrick with a story by J. David Stem & David N. Weiss & Jay Scherick & David Ronn, Based on the Characters and Works of Peyo.

The story of the Smurfs – a property created by Peyo – started in 1958 with the creation of comic books which were later brought to both the big and small screen. Over the years, the little blue characters haven’t just limited themselves to the page and the screen. They have inspired records and CDs that have sold millions of copies, entire collections of figurines and toys, and many more products. In all, more than 3,000 derived products have been produced and leading brands and companies have spread their messages worldwide with the help of the Smurfs. A multitude of new projects appear regularly, thus making the success of the Smurfs planetary.

Jessy Mendiola's Career Set to Bloom Even Brighter with the Release of "Maria Mercedes"

Jessy Mendiola's Career Set to Bloom Even Brighter with the Release of "Maria Mercedes"

Fame didn’t even cross the mind of then 14-year-old Jessy Mendiola when she joined Star Magic’s workshop back in 2007 together with her older sister. But it seems it was her destiny to become Philippine television’s next big star because out of the many aspiring, young talents in her batch, she was the only one who caught the eye of star maker Mr. Johnny Manahan.

I can still remember Mr. M asking me ‘Gusto mo bang mag-artista?’ The clueless me back then answered, ‘Is it okay if pag-isipan ko po muna? Can you give me three days?’” Jessy recounted.

She did think about it for three days and after discussing the matter with her mom and siblings, Jessy signed up with Star Magic, the country’s most prestigious artist management arm. But she did not say “yes” to Mr. M’s offer because she wanted to be an actress, but rather because she felt the need to be the family’s breadwinner.

Life wasn’t easy for us especially before I entered showbiz. I grew up without a dad and it’s only my mom who’s working to support our needs. I’ve experienced very tough times. I have experienced not having much. I even experienced eating instant noodles for dinner for many days,” she shared.

Jessy was born in Dubai to a British-Lebanese dad and a Filipina mom. She moved to the Philippines when her mom decided to start anew here. Jessy lived a life apart from her dad and grew up seeing her mom as both a mom and a dad to her and her two siblings.

My mom has been working hard all her life. That’s why it was very easy for me to take a stand and unburden her of the responsibility of providing for our family,” she explained.

From being a simple high school student, Jessy’s life turned 360-degrees when she entered show business and began acting on television. Like any other rising star, she went through a series of workshops and did minor roles on various ABS-CBN programs. She waited long hours on the set, with only minimal speaking lines. Slowly, the reluctant star began to embrace her newfound passion, acting.

I have learned to love the craft and it motivated me to do better. I am working not only to provide for my family, but because I have actually started to enjoy acting. I realized that I really want to become a good actress,” Jessy revealed.

She waited patiently for her career to blossom until she finally got her big break. In 2010, she was launched in her first title role as “Sabel,” a show that marked the beginning of her reign as ABS-CBN’s next teleserye princess. Her popularity and premium as an actress were bolstered after she did the television series “Budoy” and afternoon soap “Precious Hearts Romances Presents Paraiso” and starred in her first movie “The Reunion.”

Now tagged as one of Philippine television’s prettiest faces, Jessy has become one of the country’s fast-rising cover girls after being featured on the covers of top glossy magazines such as Metro, Chalk, Men’s Health, Meg and Preview. She has also proven to be a sought-after product endorser after brands Head and Shoulders, Myra E, Boardwalk, Bench and McDonalds tapped her to be their image model.

Bigger things await Jessy this year as she is set to reprise the role of Maria Mercedes played by Mexican superstar Thalia back in the 90s.

This is really one of my dream roles. I grew up watching Maria Mercedes and I still can’t believe that I will actually become the Pinay version of this character loved by many Filipinos,” she said.

Just recently, Star Cinema also announced that Jessy is set to do a movie with John Lloyd Cruz, Richard Gomez, and Dawn Zulueta.

Elmo Magalona is YES' Featured Pogi Celebrity this July

This July, YES! Magazine pays a visit to one of the best actresses and brightest stars of her generation - Bea Alonzo - in her brand new home located in an exclusive subdivision in Quezon City.

Bea, who is also one of the few celebrities who are able to keep their private life really private, opens the doors of her three-storey sanctuary that took almost a year to build and decorate, in the style of what her interior designer calls “urban Asian glam.”

She also opens up about her father whom she has not met; her early struggles in showbiz; her perennial love team partner John Lloyd Cruz; her first boyfriend, Mico Palanca; her whirlwind romance with Gerald Anderson; and her current love, Zanjoe Marudo.

She reveals that being guarded at the start of her career was her own decision, and it’s again her own decision to open up. “Ayokong magpakilala sa tao - that was my decision, and wala kayong alam sa tungkol sa ’kin. Now it’s my decision to open up. It’s always your choice,” she points out.

The 25-year-old mestiza beauty describes her foreigner father as “the missing puzzle in my life” and John Lloyd as “talagang magaling magpakilig.”

Find out from Bea herself if her favorite leading man attempted to court her.

Also, her recollections of her two failed romances: “A, unang-una, kami ni Mico, hindi talaga kami magkaintindihan,” she says of her first boyfriend.

As for Gerald, she clarifies, “The breakup happened before we went to London.

She adds, “Parang there was an agreement between us na we were going to act as a couple in London. But after, wala nang talk. Para masaya ’yong last moments namin together. Kasi hindi pa puwede talaga. You and me against the world ang drama. Hindi ko kaya. Hindi ko talaga kaya.”

Bea also looks back at her first meeting with her boyfriend of two years, Zanjoe Marudo.

Tingin ko sa kanya? Wala, wala lang akong interes na alamin, parang gano’n. Pero alam mo, kasi naririnig ko ibang mga friends niya, na cool siyang tao, na cool siyang kasama.

And how they became friends and ultimately, lovers: “Nanliligaw naman siya talaga, in fairness naman sa kanya. Pero hindi ’yong moment na ’yong ‘I love you, do you love me?’ Walang gano’n.”

The July issue of YES! magazine also delves into the controversies involving international singing sensation Charice Pempengco, who grants a sit-down interview, as well as box-office comedy star Ai-Ai delas Alas and her husband Jed Salang. Plus, Elmo Magalona’s profile in the Pogi Series.

Benjo Benaldo Attempted Suicide or Assassination Victim

Benjo Benaldo Attempted Suicide or Assassination Victim

Controversial outgoing Cagayan de Oro Representative Benjamin "Benjo" Benaldo, husband of Brazilian model-actress Daiana Menezes, was rushed to the New Era General Hospital in Commonwealth Ave. in Quezon City from the House of Representatives between 7 p.m and 8 p.m on Thursday night after he was found bloodied and wounded on his chest from a gunshot.

House Speaker Rep. Sonny Belmonte said Benaldo was alone inside his office when the gunshot was heard.

Benaldo was found by his staff sitting, with a 9-millimeter pistol on his table. The former congressman sustained a gunshot wound in the chest but Belmonte said the wound is “through and through.”

Benaldo, a first-term congressman, ran for reelection in the May 13 elections but lost to Liberal Party bet Rolando Uy.

According to Belmonte, Menezes said the congressman became “unhappy” after his failed bid.

The House Speaker said he does not want to speculate on the incident.

“Whether it was accidental or not accidental I cannot venture that point but there is no question na siya lang ‘yung nandoon sa kwarto,” he told dzMM.

He added that Quezon City Police District is now investigating.

The outgoing congressman, according to Belmonte, is in stable condition and in good spirits.

He seems to be OK. Nakikipag-usap siya sa amin eh, he even gave us a thumbs-up,” said Belmonte.

Benaldo was transferred to St. Luke's Medical Center in Quezon City late Thursday night.

In recent weeks, Benaldo was the subject of headlines for his relationship with his wife, who had aroused speculations that she was a victim of domestic violence.

Benaldo admitted that they were having problems as a couple, but said he has asked for forgiveness from Menezes.

The couple appeared on “The Buzz” on June 16 and addressed the issue, maintaining that no incident of domestic violence took place.

Menezes then appeared on TV on June 18 and bared her hurt over her husband's behavior during the interview, saying her husband made her look "stupid."

"Sana ma-realize niya na ginawa ko 'yan para sa 'yo. Pwede mo naman i-air out, eh. Wala namang mali na magsabi na nagkamali ako, nagkamali lang tayong dalawa, pero huwag naman dumating sa punto na ako 'yung mukhang stupid, tanga o napakadaling mag-forgive,” she said.

The couple married in a civil wedding in Las Vegas in December last year. -

Not Just About Drama and Storytelling, MMK Builds Dream School for Kids in Masbate

Not Just About Drama and Storytelling, MMK Builds Dream School for Kids in Masbate

Maalaala Mo Kaya” will present again this Saturday (June 29) the inspiring story of 11-year-old Rizza Abaño (played by Abby Bautista) and her brothers and schoolmates in Isla Mababoy in Masbate who were all so motivated to study even if they had to swim in an open sea just to get to school.

Almost a year after ABS-CBN shared the unique “journey” of the kids, who are now popularly known as “batang langoy,” many people and organizations - including ABS-CBN–were touched and eventually inspired to help out.

Even before the show premiered the ‘batang langoy’ story, “MMK” had been actively coordinating with ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya News and Current Affairs to extend assistance to the students in Isla Mababoy. The objective of “MMK” to build a nearby concrete and permanent school for the kids became an easy task through the united efforts of various groups in ABS-CBN including Lingkod Kapamilya, Sagip Kapamilya, and Pinoy Big Brother, all of which made efforts to raise funds for the project. A lot of other donors gave donations for the “dream school” until the total fund reached P1.2 million.

With enough help from everyone including the engineering department of the Philippine Army who constructed the additional classrooms, Mababoy Elementary School was finally built last March, in time for the opening of school year 2013-2014. Aside from the new school building, good-hearted donors provided the students with armchairs, books and school supplies.

The “batang langoy” episode also features Arjo Atayde, Lito Pimentel, Ana Capri, Makisig Morales, BJ Forbes, and Crispin Pineda. It was researched by Mae Rose Balanay, written by Mark Angos, and directed by Rechie Del Carmen.

Don’t miss another inspiring TV masterpiece this Saturday in the longest running drama anthology of Asia, “Maalaala Mo Kaya” (MMK), after “Wansapanataym” on ABS-CBN.

The Big Apple became the appropriate setting for one of the biggest gatherings of Filipinos held in the U.S. in recent years. On June 2, 2013, over a hundred-thousand Filipinos from the East Coast and surrounding states flocked to Madison Avenue to witness the grandest-ever Independence Day Parade mounted in New York City. It was a momentous event made even more remarkable by the first ever participation of the Philippines’ fastest growing network - TV5. Excitement was palpable when three of the Kapatid Network’s brightest stars -  Derek Ramsay, Sharon Cuneta, and Aga Muhlach - took to the streets riding a huge, red and white TV5 float while greeting the ecstatic Filipino crowd. But that was all but a prelude to the jam-packed, star-studded affair.

After the parade, Derek Ramsay kicked off the program with a special song number, wherein he also distributed roses to audience members. As if his serenade didn’t make the crowd swoon enough, the Kapatid hunk also facilitated a game which required the participation of four lucky girls from the audience. Die-hard fans of Sharon Cuneta also had a field day when the Megastar appeared on stage to belt out her signature classics “Kahit Maputi Na Ang Buhok Ko”, “Maging Sino Ka Man”, and “Sana’y Wala nang Wakas”. The audience  became even more delighted when she was joined by matinee idol Aga Muhlach in performing a duet of the classic ballad “Bakit Ngayon Ka Lang?”

TV5 also reached the pinnacle of innovation by setting up an augmented reality booth, the first by any Filipino network. This new technology placed U.S.-based Pinoys in a virtual, augmented environment where they were able to interact with a bevy of Kapatid stars ranging from screen legends Nora Aunor and Edu Manzano and fast-rising young stars like Eula Caballero and Ritz Azul. It allowed users of the booth to get up close and personal with their favorite TV5 stars without being actually with them.

It was truly a grand way to usher in TV5’s participation in the momentous parade and judging from the elation of Filipinos living in the area, it was indeed a warm welcome. “We are happy that TV5 is here, and for making this year’s celebration the biggest ever. They said they will bring Aga, Derek, and Sharon, and now it’s a reality” shares Consul General Mario L. De Leon Jr. It was also a surreal experience for the people behind the scenes as Pilipinas Global Network (PGN)/TV5 International President Claro Ramirez also shared, “We are delighted to see our Kapatids here in New York, and for bringing our biggest stars closer to them. We hope to be able to do this every year.”

Filipinos in the United States can enjoy their favorite TV5 programs on Kapatid TV5 and Aksyon TV International available via Dish Network.

"Turbo 3D" a High-Velocity Animation from DreamWorks

Meet Turbo (voiced by Ryan Reynolds), an underdog snail who dreams to overdrive just like his idol who races in the Indy 500.  At the start, Turbo is somewhat of an outcast in the snail community, which is less about big dreams and more about punching a time clock at their place of employment.

Training tirelessly all his life, he miraculously gained speed at an opportune time he met a crew of streetwise, tricked-out es-car-goes. Learning that no one can make it on their own in the fast lane.  He and his newfound pals help each other achieve their impossible dream of racing in the Indy 500.

"Turbo," says director and co-screenwriter David Soren, is a mash-up of superhero and racing film genres, but “at its heart, TURBO really is an underdog story.  The character Turbo has all the hallmarks of an underdog.  You expect nothing of snails, whose lives are stacked with obstacles, like being really, really slow.  But once you dig into it, a snail is the perfect character to have at the center of an underdog story.”
But turning an everyday, garden snail into a mighty mollusk who travels at super-speed? “Turbo’s dream of becoming something that’s completely in opposition to its nature is ripe for conflict, surprises and a satisfying payoff” when the dream becomes reality,” says Soren.
Soren came up with the idea for "Turbo" almost a decade ago.  He described it to DreamWorks Animation management at one of the company’s “pitch program” conclaves, at which DreamWorks employees can pitch their ideas for possible future projects.   “At the time it was a very complex idea – the ‘Fast and Furious with Snails,’” he remembers.

As he developed the idea, Soren was inspired by events and people very close to home.  His primary muse, he notes, “was my young son, who since before he could talk has been obsessed with toy cars and racing, and could identify virtually any car on the street by its make and model.”
Soren also found motivation in his own front yard, which had a “snail problem” that was eating away at his tomato plants.  “This marriage of the slow [the snails] and speed [his son’s preoccupation] was the catalyst that led me to the bones of the story centered on a snail who dreams of racing glory.”

Luckily, the requisite comedic and dramatic acting chops, and bigger-than-life persona, are embodied by Ryan Reynolds, whom Soren describes as “the perfect match” for Turbo.  “It all really sounded amazing, and I fell in love with its classic underdog story, which TURBO takes to a new level,” Reynolds continues.  “It takes a unique if not insane perspective to bring a snail to life in this way. What I love most about Turbo is his tenacity and refusal to give up on his dream.  In fact, it doesn’t even occur to him to give up. Talent is a collision between hard work and luck, and that’s what Turbo is.”

"Turbo" also features a stellar voice cast including Samuel L. Jackson, Paul Giamatti, Michael Pena, Luis Guzman, Bill Hader, Snoop Dogg, Maya Rudolph and Ben Schwartz.

"Turbo" (3D) opens July 19 in theaters nationwide from DreamWorks Animation and 20th Century  Fox to be distributed by Warner Bros.
