Brian Viloria vs. Juan Estrada “Rambulan sa Macau” Live Stream this Sunday

Filipino boxing champion Brian “The Hawaiian Punch” Viloria is set to defend his unified WBO and WBA Flyweight Championship title against Mexican boxer Juan “El Gallo” Estrada in the first professional boxing card that will happen in Macau this Sunday (April 7) airing live at 10:15 AM on ABS-CBN.

Estrada (22-2, 18 Kos) will be the first to challenge Viloria’s unified flyweight title in this much-awaited boxing match dubbed as “Rambulan sa Macau,” which will be held at the 15,000-seater Cotai Arena of the Venetian Casino and Resort.

In an interview with ABS-CBN News, Viloria expressed how confident he is to defend his unified title and once again make fellow Filipinos proud.

There’s nothing more I can work on. I think I did all the work and training. And so right now I’ll just taper down and get on weight. I wish the fight was tonight,” said Viloria.

Viloria (32-3, 19 KOs), who was born in Ilocos Sur and was raised by his grandparents in Ilocos Norte before moving to Hawaii with his parents,  earned his remarkable world title when he beat Mexican Hernan ‘Tyson’ Marquez last year in a fight card held at the Home Depot Center in California. He successfully defended his WBO flyweight title and at the same time captured the WBA flyweight title from Marquez, resulting in a unified title, which has not happened in boxing in almost 50 years.

Meanwhile, another Filipino boxer and current WBO International Flyweight Champion Milan “El Metodico” Melindo (27-0, 11 Kos) will play in the undercard lineup and go against Indonesian WBO Asia Pacific Light Flyweight champion Tommy Seran. This will be Melindo’s first ever fight under Top Rank Boxing that will introduce him to the international scene.

This fight will determine my career. If I win, everyone will recognize me and my achievements in boxing and will give me a bigger chance to fight for the world title,” Melindo said in an interview with Cebu Daily News.

Thai Romantic Comedy Movie “ATM” Airs on CinemaOne this Sunday

Laugh and fall in love as  ”Blockbuster Sundays,” Cinema One’s highest rating movie block presents Thailand’s hit romantic comedy movie “ATM”  this Sunday (April 7).

The 2012 Thai film revolves around a couple Jib (Preechaya “Ice” Pongthananikorn) and Sua (Chantavit “Ter” Dhanasevi) who work in a bank and have kept their five-year relationship a secret from their colleagues because the company forbids workplace romance. But when they finally decide to get married, one of them must resign. However, neither was willing to give up his or her job.

To settle their dilemma, Jib and Sua compete with each other in recovering the money from the bank’s malfunctioned ATM machine that dispenses twice the amount of money its depositors withdraw. They agree that whoever loses should quit his or her job.

“ATM” or originally “ATM Er Rak Error,” is one of the highest grossing movies of 2012 that also gained positive reviews from the public. Yahoo OMG Philippines’ Walden Belen praised the film, which he described as “a surprisingly funny movie you’ll fall in love with.” Belen also said that the story was well-structured and straight-forward where comic antics of the characters flowed naturally.

Don’t miss “ATM” this Sunday (April 7), 8:00 p.m., only on the number one cable channel in the Philippines, Cinema One, available on SkyCable Gold, SkyCable Silver and other quality cable operators. For more information and updates, log on to http://www.facebook.com/Cinema1channel.

“Face to Face” Week-Long 3rd Anniversary Special Presentation Begins on April 8, 4:30PM

Dubbed as the first “barangay hall on-air,” TV5′s “Face to Face” enters its fourth year with must-watch week-long anniversary episodes running next week (April 8 to 12) on its new 4:30pm timeslot.

When the pioneering talak-serye started airing three years ago, TV5 pitted the fledgling program against strong competition in the morning timeslot. Since then, Face to Face has become one of the most-watched and controversial daytime programs on Philippine TV.

Starting Monday (April 8), Face to Face will showcase a series of special episodes that feature the next talk-of-the-town stories, major confrontations and tear-jerking revelations-all in one week.

Now on its fourth year and back to its 4:30pm timeslot, Face to Face continues to mirror domestic and communal conflicts of Filipinos, and tries to resolve every single dispute by pinning down the root cause of the problem–an equity it has lived up to over 800 episodes it has so far produced.

Outgoing host Ateng Gelli De Belen will grace a few of the anniversary episodes before she turns over the “Pambansang Kapitana” throne to the show’s original host, Tyang Amy Perez. It could be remembered that Ateng Gelli pinched hit for Tyang Amy when the latter had to take a break last July to attend to a delicate pregnancy. True to the show’s thrust, the overwhelming popularity of Face to Face among the masses has brought the two “Pambansang Kapitanas” closer to its loyal viewers.

Apart from its main host, Face to Face is home to “Primero Sawsawero” Hans Mortel and the Trio Tagapayo-comprised of Public Attorney’s Office (PAO) chief Atty. Persida Acosta and husband Atty. Benedicto Acosta, Jr., legal experts; Fr. Sonny Merida, spiritual adviser; and Dr. Camille Caces-Garcia, resident psychologist sharing their expertise to infuse reason amidst warring parties.

Don’t miss the most intriguing anniversary episodes of Face to Face starting this Monday (April 8), 4:30pm on TV5.

Writer-Director Shane Black Shares Details You Must Know About “Iron Man 3”

Writer-Director Shane Black Shares Details You Must Know About “Iron Man 3”

He has long been considered one of the pioneer screenwriters of the modern action genre. Shane Black made his breakthrough at the age of 26 when he wrote the screenplay for “Lethal Weapon” in 1987 and set up one of the most successful action/comedy franchises of all time.

Black subsequently wrote the screenplays for “Lethal Weapon 2,” “The Last Boy Scout,” “Last Action Hero” and “The Long Kiss Goodnight.” In 2005, he wrote and directed the well-received “Kiss Kiss Bang Bang,” which marked the return to the big screen for Robert Downey Jr.

Now, he reunites with Downey as he directs the actor in (as well as writes the screenplay for) Marvel's “Iron Man 3.” Find more about Black's directorial journey in the following interview.

Q: What was your impression of the first Marvel’s “Iron Man” as an outsider/friend of the actor and not as a filmmaker?
Shane Black: I was very happy for Robert [Downey Jr.] when I found out he was going to be Iron Man. It’s one of those why-didn’t-I-think-of-that situations where you have certain actors that when you hire them, you get what you pay for. With Robert you never quite know what you’re getting but he always seems to elevate the material and that’s what’s great about him.
Robert came to me early on with Jon [Favreau]. They had a version but they were looking for some ideas. I like to think I contributed very little. I just sat and talked with them about the movie. I was impressed just how gung-ho they were to do this thing in kind of a realistic style and make a real-world film, not just a comic book film.

Robert elevates anything he takes on. He is one of those people who is very personal about it. He’s very passionate and intense about not just giving you a performance you recognize from his last performance. I think he’s one of our great actors and the idea that he can do something that is as intimate and wonderful as “Chaplin” and then also do “Iron Man” and not be cynical about it, is remarkable. But Robert is Iron Man; he really committed to it.

Q: What was it like as a director working with an actor who is so involved in the film making process like Robert Downey Jr.?
Black: Robert shows up to play ball, and you’ve got to be pretty alert in the morning, which I’m not generally. I remember standing outside his trailer like jumping up and down a couple times, gulping down coffee because I knew I had to go in and face this guy. No matter where you go in the room he’s going to be two inches away from your face. He has his ideas and we collaborate, and we’ve done it before, but he’s a force of nature to be reckoned with.

He’s an adult. He’s a child. He’s a genius. He can be the most hyperactive, kinetic guy who is limitless in his energy. Basically he’s a phenomenon. He’s remarkable to work with, and he shows up to play. You’ve got to be on your game, because when he walks in, it’s not about chewing the fat and drinking coffee. He wants to go. And so, that was our challenge - just to be ready on set for him. When he walked in, we had to be up to it.

Q: What attracted you to Tony Stark/Iron Man?
Black: My initial exposure to Iron Man was probably early sixties. I was addicted to those old Super Heroes, especially the Hulk and Iron Man but more so Iron Man because he was high-tech and cooler. I also had this love of robots. I love robots that look like Iron Man and that sort of meld in like cyborgs. I loved the “Six-Million Dollar Man” or what it could have been. So there’s always this sort of Michael Crichton high-tech love I’ve had for that sort of superhero.

Tony Stark has so many troubles, so many foibles, but only later on did I come to appreciate that. That’s what makes the character such a tight fit with Downey and it’s what I respond to now. Once you have everything, what do you really have and as you sit there sipping your champagne, looking out the huge plate-glass window at the world you essentially own, what’s really going on in your head? All the firepower in the world at your disposal and you’re hanging with chicks getting drunk. It’s a level of fantasy that I think people really respond to because here is a guy who maintains a conscience even though he essentially has the ability to be a robber baron. He comes around and he says, “No, I still have the responsibility to do the right thing.”

Q: In what direction did you take the Tony Stark character in Marvel’s “Iron Man 3”?
Black: In “The Marvel’s The Avengers” there’s a bit of an otherworldly element. There’s kind of a fantasy element and it gets very big and almost flamboyant in its sci-fi aspect. There was an idea to back off a little from that with “Iron Man 3” and say that this is a standalone movie. We’re not saying that this is not the same Avengers universe. We’re saying, “Okay, he did that last summer but this summer maybe he’s concerned with something a little less extraterrestrial.” But at the same time, to make it a thriller that has that pulp element to it, it still has to be framed in terms of the comic book. I think we have a creepy type of menace in this one that is sort of outlandish and comic book but also backed up against a real world environment of international war, international arms and international terror.

Q: How far did you go with the Iron Man suit? How many are there?
Black: At the beginning of this movie there are 42 suits. The newest one is based on a technology that was sort of hinted at in the comics, but we do it a slightly different way. Tony has basically put little outlets subcutaneously beneath his exterior layer of skin that can draw the suit to him when he wants it, so it’s still rock solid, still protects him from bullets, but it’s also flexible enough so that he could just throw the suit off him at someone else. I remember Drew Pearce, my co-writer, and I went sort of hog wild when we were told that there should be extra suits.

Q: Can you talk about creating the style of this film and merging sci-fi and fantastical elements?
Black: At the same time as it feels a little fantastical, it doesn’t feel unsophisticated and that’s the thing. The task becomes to generate a sci-fi plot that actually does feel real world and fits within the rest of the structure. The actual race to the finish is based on a kind of thriller format. We went for the structure of a thriller, the bigness of a comic book action movie, coupled with the reality and the sophisticated chill of a villain that is frightening in today’s world.

Marvel’s “Iron Man 3” pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy's hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?

Opening across the Philippines on April 24 in IMAX 3D, Digital 3D and regular theatres, “Iron Man 3” is presented by Marvel Studios in association with Paramount Pictures and DMG Entertainment. Marvel Studios' President Kevin Feige is producing and Jon Favreau, Louis D'Esposito, Charles Newirth, Victoria Alonso, Stephen Broussard, Alan Fine, Stan Lee and Dan Mintz are executive producers. The film is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.

Tom Hanks Leonardo DiCaprio to Star in Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev Biopic

Tom Hanks Leonardo DiCaprio to Star in Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev Biopic

The Cold War has captivated our imaginations and taken over our television sets. But instead of stylish spies in disguise, HBO Films is taking the biopic route.

HBO Films confirmed Thursday they are developing a movie about former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev with the help of Tom Hanks and Leonardo DiCaprio. Neither actor will be donning that distinctive birthmark, though. They’re just helping to make sure the project comes to life through their respective production companies — DiCaprio’s Appian Way, and Hanks’ Playtone. This news was first reported by Deadline.

The film will chronicle Gorbachev’s time as president through the end of the Cold War and the dissolution of the Soviet Union from a script by X-Files and Breaking Bad writer and producer John Shiban. Gorbachev, now 82, has worked with DiCaprio before on The 11th Hour, and will serve as a consultant on the project. There’s no word yet on timeline or casting.

Director Mike Newell (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire) is also working on his own Gorbachev project, Reykjavik, about the 1986 peace summit between the Soviet leader and Ronald Reagan. The big screen take on the historic meeting stars Christoph Waltz as Gorbachev, and Michael Douglas as Reagan, and is currently in production.

GMA Network Beats Own Record by Releasing a New "Lupang Hinirang" Video in Breathtaking HD Version

GMA Network Beats Own Record by Releasing a New "Lupang Hinirang" Video in Breathtaking HD Version

This time without the glamour of any showbiz personality. Its the common people depicting the lives of key Pinoy heroes that created Philippine history who comprises the new, superb and breathtaking version on "Lupang Hinirang" in high-defiition copy.

After the release of its highly praised cinematic version of the Philippine National Anthem in 2010, broadcast media giant GMA Network is set to launch another theatrical rendition of “Lupang Hinirang,” and it is expected to capture the attention of TV audience and moviegoers alike as it hits TV screens and movie theaters soon.

The 2013 version pays tribute to the heroes of today by drawing inspiration from the heroes of yesteryears. It opens with an artist sketching a portrait of Lapu Lapu, which seamlessly transforms into a colorful animation of the events that shaped Philippine history from the Battle of Mactan, which saw the defeat of the Spanish conquistadors in the hands of the natives, to the Cry of Pugad Lawin and the martyrdom of our national hero, Jose Rizal.

The main music of the national anthem begins as the heroes of the past are juxtaposed with modern heroes like the one portrayed by a fire fighter who braves the raging flames of a burning building in order to save an infant, a teacher who walks several miles to school daily to educate her pupils, a farmer who dutifully toils the land under the scorching heat of the sun to fend for his family, a traffic enforcer who continues to do his job despite being soaked in heavy rains, a doctor who compassionately attends to the medical needs of those in the barrios, overseas workers who endure being away from their loved ones in the hope of giving them a better future, an athlete who brings pride to his country, and several others. These depictions paint a very striking picture before the audience: that we are modern heroes in our own right and that’s something we should all be proud of.

Every person who embodies the virtues of honesty, hospitality, dedication, integrity, among others, rightly deserves to be called a modern hero.  You don’t have to die to become a hero; you could be one by making a difference in the lives of your fellowmen,” said GMA Chairman & CEO Atty. Felipe L. Gozon.

We are proud to present our latest version of ‘Lupang Hinirang’ to Filipinos here and around the globe.  In this iteration, deliberate focus was given to our present day heroes and the many ways they contribute to nation-building, wherever they may be,” GMA President and COO Gilberto R. Duavit, Jr. said. “It is our hope that the featured vignettes serve to inspire us by recognizing and celebrating the efforts of our countrymen,” he added.

The 2013 ‘Lupang Hinirang’ project was made possible through a partnership between GMA Network and SM Cinemas.  The theatrical version of the music video will be shown at the beginning of the first and last screenings in all SM Cinemas nationwide.

SM Cinemas is proud to partner once again with GMA in this very noble project.  This music video recognizes the ‘ordinary’ Filipinos performing daily heroic acts worthy of emulation by our younger generations.  As we screen this in SM Cinemas nationwide, we hope to spread this message and help inspire the continuation of real life heroism among Filipinos,” said Mr. Edgar C. Tejerero, Senior Vice President of West Avenue Theaters Corp.

The team behind the project is composed of Edward Achacoso (Director of Photography), Paul Hendrick Ticzon (Director), Vince Gealogo (Co-Director), John Paul Arrojado (Assistant DOP), Allyn de Ocampo (Main Cam/Arri Operator) and Neil Nanquil (Assistant Director/Edit Supervisor); Program Managers Jann Nagasangan, Rowena de Jesus and Dianagell Flores; and Shoot Producers Ingrid Navarro and Hazel Joy Raymundo.

The campaign was spearheaded by GMA’s Program Support Department headed by Regie Bautista (VP) with Dong Tan (Associate Creative Director), Alex Almario (Junior Associate Creative Director), Dennis Tiu (Art Director), Hasmin Marable (Senior Project Manager), and Minette Lopez (Senior Project Manager).

This is only a three-minute music video but we poured in so much resource, time and effort in this project not only because it is our national anthem but also because this is a special way for GMA to give due recognition to the unsung heroes of our time,” shared director Paul Ticzon.

We used our latest high-definition equipment in order to create a music video that is not only awe-inspiring but also cinematically dramatic,” he added

In 2010, we released a music video that paid tribute to the heroes of Philippine history.  This year, we are releasing one that pays tribute to the heroism of the modern Filipino, here and abroad – affirming those who respond to the needs of our time and live their lives in the service of others. We want them to know that we recognize and appreciate the difference they are making,” shared GMA VP for Program Support Regie Bautista.

The 2010 “Lupang Hinirang” music video won the Bronze World Medal at the 2011 New York Festivals World’s Best TV Programs and Film Awards in the Music Video category and the Bronze Anvil from the 2011 Anvil Awards by the Public Relations Society of the Philippines (PRSP) in the Public Relations Tool category.

Catch the launch of GMA Network’s latest cinematic version of the Philippine National Anthem on April 9 (Araw ng Kagitingan) on 24 Oras.  The music video will become part of the network’s sign on and sign off messages, and will be shown in SM cinemas nationwide soon.

Enchong Dee and Maja Salvador then travel to the 60s and have big dancing shoes to fill as they portray the very iconic tandem in The Nida and Nestor Show.

Meanwhile, Angeline Quinto, Sam Milby, and Paulo Avelino pay tribute to 70s D’ Sensations where viewers felt the “kilig” via the love teams of Vilma-Bot and Nora-Pip.

Pokwang, on the other hand, dons the iconic 80s tangga ala Alma Moreno in LoveliNess, while former real-life partners Rayver Cruz and Cristine Reyes team up as the iconic 80s duo of Tonight with Dick and Carmi.

The year 2000 also etched wonderful Pinoy memories. Catch today’s hottest love team, Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla as they recreate the phenomenal hit 2000 teleserye Pangako Sa’yo.

Some of today’s sexiest stars – Diether Ocampo, Jericho Rosales, Jake Cuenca, Matteo Guidicelli, Jason Abalos and Angel Locsin – make a splash in their lifeguard uniforms, a throwback of the popular show Baywatch that will relive the time when ABS-CBN was still airing US syndicated programs.

One of the most successful telenovelas of all time, Maria Mercedes, gets a 2013 remake as Jessy Mendiola takes on the role first made famous by Mexican star Thalia.

ABS-CBN’s impact on Pinoy pop culture is not only limited to television shows but covers music, too. Groove to old dance hits – “Otso Otso,”“Katawan” (the theme from Palibhasa Lalake) and “Pinoy Ako.”

For the first time, ABS-CBN’s annual station ID breaks away from the usual music video mold as it highlights popular catchphrases such as “Hoy, gising!”, “Handa na ba kayo?” and “I-Dawn Zulueta mo ako.”

The “Kwento ng Summer Natin” theme song is performed by Sam Milby and Angeline Quinto with lyrics by Lloyd Corpuz, Mike Sales, Tess Perez-Mendoza and music by Marcus and Amber Davis.

Jaegers Robots of “Pacific Rim” Prepares for Battle

Last week, it was revealed that Manila will figure in Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures’ “Pacific Rim” as one of the world cities attacked by sea monsters known as Kaiju. Now, the studios have released the images of gigantic robots known as Jaegers which man created to fight the Kaiju.

The five Jaegers being introduced are Russia’s Cherno Alpha, Japan’s Coyote Tango, USA’s Gipsy Danger, Australia’s Striker Eureka and China’s Crimson Typhoon.

In the film, when legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge.

But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes - a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi) - who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

Oscar® nominee Guillermo del Toro (“Pan’s Labyrinth”) is directing the epic film from a script by Travis Beacham (“Clash of the Titans”). Thomas Tull, Jon Jashni and Mary Parent are producing, with Callum Greene serving as executive producer.

The film stars Charlie Hunnam (TV’s “Sons of Anarchy”), Idris Elba (“Thor”), Rinko Kikuchi (“The Brothers Bloom”), Charlie Day (“Horrible Bosses”), and Ron Perlman (the “Hellboy” films).

Opening across the Philippines in July 11 in 3D, 2D and regular theaters, “Pacific Rim” will be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.
