Angelica Panganiban Reveals True Breakup Reason with Derek Ramsay (Finally!

In the April 2013 issue of StarStudio Magazine, Angelica Panganiban revealed that her six-year relationship with Derek Ramsay ended over the phone.

The 26-year-old Kapamilya actress recalled the day when the Kapatid actor allegedly broke up with her after years of unresolved conflicts.

According to Angelica, Derek was in Boracay for a professional commitment and vacation when they had an argument over the phone some time in February 2012.

The actress related that in the heat of their argument, the model-actor-host suddenly asked her: "Ano ba'ng nararamdaman mo?"

Angelica recalled saying that she prefers addressing the question personally, once he gets back from vacation, but Derek pushed for an answer.

"Wala. Wala na 'kong nararamdaman," she responded.

Derek's only answer, according to Angel was: "Okay, it's over."

In the years leading up to their separation, the former celebrity couple had to grapple with several problems that later proved difficult to handle.

Among them, the "Apoy sa Dagat" star related in detail to StarStudio, were three major conflicts - Derek's being allegedly a controlling boyfriend, his supposed lack of support for the actress' mission to find her biological father, and his reported marriage to a certain Mary Christine Jolly in 2002.

On the set of the romantic-comedy movie "Every Breath U Take," which she was filming at the time of the breakup, Angel said she cried uncontrollably.

"Hindi ko alam kung naiiyak ako dahil nasabi ko siya. Yes, para talaga akong nakatakas, ganoon 'yung pakiramdam ko, pero at the same time, angsakit-sakit. Hindi ko alam kung tama, kung kaya ko panindigan," she said.

The following day, Angel recalled, she moved out her things from the house she had shared with Derek  for five years, with the help of her mother Annabelle.

When the "Kidlat" star learned that the actress had already picked up her belongings from their shared home, the actor, Angelica recalled, messaged her: "Let's fix this."

But for Angelica, the breakup was a way of finally being set free. Refusing her former boyfriend's plea, she told herself: "Hindi, may way out ka na, nakalabas ka na. Huwag ka nang bumalik."

In the April 2013 issue of StarStudio, out in newsstands now,  Angeilica also retraces her beginnings as an actress after 20 years in the industry. She also recalls her romance with former boyfriend Carlo Aquino, and opens up on her relationship with current partner John Lloyd Cruz.

TFC and CFO Unite for the 2nd Global Summit of Filipinos in the Diaspora

TFC and CFO Unite for the 2nd Global Summit of Filipinos in the Diaspora

ABS-CBN Global Ltd. through The Filipino Channel (TFC), in its continued mission to accompany Filipinos in their journey through life overseas, sponsored the Commission on Filipinos Overseas’ (CFO) 2nd Global Summit of Filipinos in the Diaspora with the theme Two Years Thereafter: The Best of the Philippine Diaspora and tagline Balikbayanihan Para Sa Inang Bayan.  This year’s summit recently held at the Dusit Thani Hotel in Makati City, Philippines revisited the past diaspora programs and identified highlights and areas for more participation from overseas Filipinos (OFs).

CFO staged the 2nd Global Summit in partnership with its co-convenors Global Filipino Diaspora Council (GFDC) headed by business tycoon and philanthropist Atty. Loida Lewis, U.S. Pinoys for Good Governance (USPGG) with Atty. Ted Laguatan as spokesperson, and the Youth Leaders in the Diaspora (YouLeaD).  The summit proper opened with the inspiring rendition of the Philippine National Anthem and The Prayer by Pilipinas Got Talent Season 2 Grand Champion Marcelito Pomoy.

ABS-CBN Global Ltd.’s Philippine Country Manager Edson Aguiflor  said, “We are honored to have joined hands anew with CFO for this key gathering of overseas Filipinos.  Being part of this enhances our knowledge and understanding of issues relevant to OFs and responding to these with community leaders isvery much aligned with our mission to serve the Filipinos worldwide .”

CFO Secretary Imelda Nicolas expressed that “TFC is the natural partner for this 2nd Global Summit.  We have been partners with TFC for years and this summit further strengthens our ties as organizations in the service of OFs in every part of the world.”

Like TFC, CFO also tapped other institutions that share CFO’s mission to promote and uphold the interests, rights and welfare of overseas Filipinos as well as preserve and strengthen their ties with Filipino communities overseas.  These organizations include the National Federation of Filipino-American Association (NaFFAA) represented by Atty. Rodel Rodis; the European Network of Filipino Diaspora (ENFID) headed by Mr. Gene Alcantara; and the Embassy of the Philippines to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) headed by Ambassador Grace Princesa.

Sec. Nicolas stressed that, “Consistent with our theme, we want to start a different revolution. Every OF can be more than just a balikbayan and instead be more of an active participant of the country’s development.”

President Benigno Aquino III recognized the role of OFs in his video message played during the summit saying, “I am fully aware of just how difficult life away from our motherland. I know what it’s like to be away from my family and friends.”  He added, “Many of you have left your hearts in the Philippines. But while some of you have built new lives in foreign lands, you have maintained a strong presence here through programs like the Diaspora to Development (D2D) initiative.

OVERSEAS VOTE

Atty. Lewis of GFDC acknowledged this contribution and noted that the Philippine government has amended current laws to make programs friendlier for overseas Filipinos and allow them to participate more in the country’s political life.  In the last elections, she pointed out that the Vice-presidency was decided only by 800,000 votes. Lewis posed the question, “Do you see then that if at least 2 million Filipinos overseas register and vote, we can be a decisive and crucial factor in the Presidential elections of 2016?  We can decide who can be the next President.”

TFC is also in partnership with the Department of Foreign Affairs-Overseas Absentee Voting Secretariat (DFA-OAVS) and the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) in the promotion and propagation of the Overseas Voting Act.

DIASPORA, PHILANTROPHY AND REINTEGRATION

During the Summit, two days of fruitful sessions with the expertise of guest speakers identified other issues that concern overseas Filipinos and possible solutions to these.

On the Diaspora Philanthropy and Medical Mission Coordination workshop of the summit, Bantay Bata Resource Mobilization Manager Elvira Yulo, who represented Program Director Tina Monzon Palma in the session on using media and technology to leverage on assistance, said, “With the help of TFC, overseas Filipinos find out ways to be able to help their less fortunate kababayan in the Philippines.”

In the workshop on Return and Reintegration, ABS-CBN News and Current Affairs Head Ging Reyes said that “While I had the safety net of ABS-CBN and did not have to look for jobs unlike other overseas Filipinos, I had to cope like any other Filipino distant from home.”

Other sessions included Diaspora Investment and Entrepreneurship; Global Legal Assistance and Advocacy (GLAAD); Alay-Dunong and Balik-Turo (skills and technology transfer); and Arts and Culture Exchange and Tourism Initiative.

FILIPINO ACHIEVERS

During the cultural night of the summit, the USPGG recognized the winners of the Essay Writing Contest on The West Philippine Sea.  Performances also included stirring rendition by Pilipinas Got Talent Season 1 winner Jovit Baldivino, a global achiever himself as he continues to draw crowds in TFC events worldwide.

The CFO and TFC have been long-time partners in serving Filipinos overseas.  TFC is a major sponsor for the 2nd Global Summit for Filipinos in Diaspora.

Disney's “Planes” Team Dusty Character Descriptions

Disney's “Planes” Team Dusty Character Descriptions

Walt Disney Studios has just announced the voice cast comprising Team Dusty, the hero group in “Planes,” an action-packed 3D animated comedy adventure that's hitting Philippine theaters this August.

The cast is led by Dane Cook, Stacy Keach, Cedric The Entertainer, Teri Hatcher and Brad Garrett. Below are the first-look images of the characters, with corresponding descriptions.

Dusty (voice of Dane Cook) is a plane with high hopes—literally. Crop duster by trade, this single-prop plane sees himself soaring alongside his high-flying heroes in an international race. The fact that he’s not really built for competitive racing doesn’t deter him from pursuing his dream—but his fear of heights just might. With a little help from his friends—and a WWII vet with wisdom to spare—Dusty takes off on an adventure of a lifetime, going prop-to-prop with champions while daring to reach heights he never imagined possible.

A reclusive old Navy Corsair, Skipper Riley (voice of Stacy Keach) was an ace flier and top instructor of the esteemed Jolly Wrenches squadron until an incident during a combat mission took him off the front lines and left him grounded for life. These days, Skipper keeps to himself, but his quiet existence is turned upside down when an ambitious and persistent Dusty solicits Skipper’s aerial expertise—and gets a few life lessons in the process. But Skipper—who’s never really come to terms with his past—finds that he has a few things to learn, too, and while coaching Dusty to fly faster and smarter, the teacher becomes the student.

Leadbottom (voice of Cedric the Entertainer) is a puttering old biplane and a grumbling taskmaster, a real “tank-half-empty” kind of guy. As the proprietor of Vitaminamulch, a special—albeit putrid—blend of vitamins, minerals, and mulch that works miracles when sprayed on crops, Leadbottom has no time for Dusty’s far-fetched flights of fancy. There are too many crops to spray and not enough hours in the day to spray them. For Leadbottom, it’s work first, then … well, more work.

Dottie (voice of Teri Hatcher) is a forklift who co-owns and operates Chug and Dottie’s Fill ’n Fly service station. As Dusty’s practical and say-it-like-it-is friend—not to mention his ace mechanic—Dottie hopes to keep his high-flying hopes grounded in reality: Dusty isn’t built to race and chasing his dream is downright dangerous. No matter what he decides, however, Dottie will always have his back.

Fuel truck Chug (voice of Brad Garrett) is a guy’s guy. He works hard as co-owner of Chug and Dottie’s Fill ’n Fly service station—and plays hard indulging in his own fuel from time to time. He has a big personality and is a bold supporter of Dusty’s high-flying endeavors. Indeed, he’s not only Dusty’s buddy, he’s his coach and biggest fan. And if Chug can’t help Dusty reach new heights, he’ll find someone who can.

Distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures International, “Planes” takes off in Philippine theaters in 3D on August 21, 2013, and will be presented in Disney Digital 3D™ in select cinemas.

Ai-Ai delas Alas on Rekindling Friendship with James Yap: "Masarap ang walang kaaway."

While Kris Aquino is in the middle of legal battle against his ex-husband James Yap, her BFF (Bestfriend Forever) Ai-Ai delas Alas seems very much happy and welcome to rekindle old friendship with the cager-endorser.

When the two accidentally met in the shooting of the comedienne's latest movie with Marian Rivera titled "Kung Fu Divas", Ai-Ai had the chance to talk with James proving that they're relationship is not affected at all with the current issue involving the ex-couple.

"Oo, dumalaw siya kasi birthday nun nung assistant ni Dondon Monteverde.Parang ‘di ako makapaniwala na nandiyan siya sa set. Sabi niya, ‘My friend!’ Ako naman, ‘My friend you’re here!’ Tapos picture taking kami ni lolo. Best friend ko siya. Sabi nga ni Vice Ganda [another BFF of Kris] dati, masarap yung walang kaaway. Puro positive lang. "Ai-Ai narrated during her contract renewal with the Kapamilya network last March 21.

"Dati pa kami magkaibigan. Kasi nung minsan nagusap sila ni Kris sa phone nung nagshu-shoot kami, parang andito kami sa Quezon City, sabi niya, ‘O eto si friendship.’ Pinasa sa akin. Sabi ko, ‘Sino ba ito? My friend, bakit mo ako inaaway, bati na tayo.’ Tapos tawa ng tawa. Dun nag-start. Minsan nagkakatextan kami. Parang, ‘Uy may game pala kayo ngayon. Pwede manood?’ ‘O sige friend ilang ticket?’ Mga ganong chika." she added.

TFC, COMELEC and DFA-OAVS Promote May 2013 Election Overseas Voting

TFC, COMELEC and DFA-OAVS Promote May 2013 Election Overseas Voting

After a record-breaking turnout of Filipinos during the registration period in 2012 as a result of a multi-platform campaign mounted by the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) and the Department of Foreign Affairs – Overseas Absentee Secretariat (DFA-OAVS) with strong support from
The Filipino Channel (TFC), the agencies and the foremost Filipino media network have entered into a landmark tripartite agreement to propagate the overseas vote further. With an umbrella campaign entitled, Boto mo, kinabukasan ng bawat Pilipino (Your vote is the future of each Filipino), TFC disseminated the campaign via public service announcements (PSAs), print media and social networking sites. As a result, the turnout exceeded records for the past three elections in 2004, 2007 and 2010 in terms of new OF registrants.

TFC’s Philippine Country Manager Edson Aguiflor said that as the Filipino network with the widest reach, TFC does not only aim to bring the best of the Philippines to every part of the world where there is a Filipino but also aspires to be a catalyst for change for overseas Filipinos (OFs) and their families in the Philippines.
Consistent with the theme, we encourage our kababayans to exercise their right to suffrage and choose the nation’s next leaders who can make a difference in the lives of every Filipino,” he added.

In 2012, DFA-OAVs reported that total registration turnout hit close to a million or a total of 988,384 OFs, a milestone for a registration for a non-presidential election.  DFA Undersecretary and OAVS Chairman Jose Brillantes recognized TFC’s participation in achieving the all-time high record.  This year he said, “We continue this cooperation with TFC because the network plays a pivotal role in bringing our campaign worldwide. With its presence in the U.S.A., Canada, Middle East, Europe, Australia, Japan and other countries in Asia, the campaign reaches and encourages a greater number of Filipinos.

COMELEC Commissioner Lucenito Tagle echoed his sentiments, saying, “We did it in the 2012 registration. With TFC, we can even do better this year.”

This year, TFC, COMELEC and DFA-OAVs tapped young superstar Kim Chiu, variety show ASAP mainstay and enterprising actor Robi Domingo, Pinoy True Stories hosts and respected reporters Maan Macapagal, Atom Araullo and multi-awarded anchor Ted Failon.  They join last year’s endorsers – Boy Abunda, Pokwang, Eric Santos, Randy Santiago and Piolo Pascual in conveying the message Your vote is our (every Filipino’s) future.

Filipinos can also connect with their kababayans and fellow voters via facebook.com/KapamilyaTFC.  The election period is from April 13 to May 13, 2013 (closing at 7 p.m. Manila Time).  Modes of voting (depending on the country where you are situated in) include personal voting, postal voting and
automated election system (AES) or automated voting.  Voting will be conducted in the nearest Embassy, Consulate, Mission or Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO) for personal voting and automated voting while electoral ballots will be sent directly to Filipinos identified under postal voting.

For a list of Certified List of Voters (CLOV), please inquire at, or visit the nearest Embassy, Consulate, Mission or Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO).

Robert Downey Jr. Strikes Back as Tony Stark in Marvel's “Iron Man 3”

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

Robert Downey Jr. Strikes Back as Tony Stark in Marvel's “Iron Man 3”

From Marvel Studios comes “Iron Man 3,” which continues the epic, big-screen adventures of the world’s favorite billionaire-inventor-Super Hero, Tony Stark aka Iron Man.

Marvel’s “Iron Man 3” pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy’s hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?

Based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book Super Hero Iron Man, who first appeared on the pages of “Tales of Suspense” (#39) in 1963 and had his solo comic book debut with “The Invincible Iron Man” (#1) in May of 1968, “Iron Man 3” returns Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark, the iconic Super Hero, along with Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper Potts, Don Cheadle as James “Rhodey” Rhodes, Guy Pearce as Aldrich Killian, Rebecca Hall as Maya Hansen, Jon Favreau as Happy Hogan and Ben Kingsley as The Mandarin.

Shane Black directs Marvel’s “Iron Man 3” and the screenplay is by Drew Pearce & Shane Black.

After the “Iron Man” and “Iron Man 2” box-office successes, the Iron Man character, once again reprised by Robert Downey Jr., was last seen in Marvel Studios critically acclaimed “Marvel’s The Avengers,” which set the all-time, domestic 3-day weekend box office record at $207.4 million. The film went on to gross over $1.6 billion worldwide, becoming Disney’s highest-grossing global and domestic release of all time and marks the studio’s fifth film to gross more than $1 billion worldwide.

The exciting thing about ‘Iron Man 3,’ is that it’s not only the culmination of the first two films, but it’s also a follow up to ‘Marvel’s The Avengers,’” says producer Kevin Feige. “It’s one of the first situations where you have a movie that is the sequel to two different films and in a way that liberates it to be more unique than anything that has come before it, which is what we’re most excited about.

In the Marvel cinematic universe, all events that happen within each film have a direct influence and consequence in future films and franchises. For Tony Stark the events and encounters he faced in “Marvel’s The Avengers” may be behind him, but he is still working hard to balance the demands of his own personal life.

For the storyline of Marvel’s “Iron Man 3,” the filmmakers decided on a “back-to-basics” tone where they could explore what Tony Stark would do if all of his money and toys were stripped away from him and he was forced to find a way back to being a Super Hero.

Early on in the development, we talked about this notion of taking Tony Stark back to basics because we wanted to see him just use his brain,” explains executive producer Louis D’ Esposito. “You want to see what he can do when the odds are against him and it makes you wonder, ‘How is he going to get out of this one?’”

Executive producer Stephen Broussard explains the filmmakers’ decision to blend two different storylines together for the film. “There are two classic stories that have appeared in the ‘Iron Man’ comics - one is older and the other is more modern,” explains Broussard. “The older is the character called The Mandarin, and he is one of the most famous villains in the franchise. The character dates back to the 1960s and we wanted Shane [Black] and Drew [Pearce] to take that idea and contemporize it for present-day audiences.”

Broussard adds, “We also wanted to combine that with another storyline in the comic called Extremis, which came out not too long before the first ‘Iron Man’ film in 2008. It deals with the biological enhancement of humans and Tony must face super-powered humans in that. So we just thought, wouldn’t that be interesting if we tried to combine these two stories into one for ‘Iron Man 3’?

An early believer in the Extremis story line, Downey Jr. says, “I remember when we were getting ready to shoot ‘Iron Man,’ I started reading ‘Iron Man’ comics and there was this one called ‘Extremis,’ and I thought it was really interesting and cool.

The thing about the Extremis storyline that always interested me in the comic books was that you had a sense that Tony Stark puts on an iron suit and hides inside it in a way,” says director Shane Black. “The character wouldn’t call it that, but that’s kind of the case. With the Extremis people, you always got a sense that they’re burning up from the inside. So one of them could actually say to Tony for instance, ‘you drive a car, I am the car.’

There is plenty of angst from “Marvel’s The Avengers” to fuel Tony Stark’s arc too. Before “Marvel’s The Avengers,” Tony Stark thought he was the only Super Hero in the world, and in “Iron Man 3” he must deal with the revelation that he is not the only one out there. As Kevin Feige explains, “In ‘Marvel’s The Avengers’ he faces a world-changing event that not only includes seeing the powers of other Super Heroes, but also having a portal to another world opened above his head.

For Robert Downey Jr. the journey of Tony Stark in the “Iron Man” franchise is one that is very relatable to audiences. “The great thing about ‘Iron Man 3’ is that we really are going back to kind of an extension and continuation of some of the things that made the franchise fly to begin with,” says Downey. “With the execution and incredible success of ‘Marvel’s The Avengers,’ we’re afforded the opportunity to not have to set up another film and can really explore the character of Tony Stark in ways that are very organic and connectable and play to the strength of the franchise.”

Opening across the Philippines on April 24 in IMAX 3D, Digital 3D and regular theatres, “Iron Man 3” is presented by Marvel Studios in association with Paramount Pictures and DMG Entertainment. Marvel Studios' President Kevin Feige is producing and Jon Favreau, Louis D'Esposito, Charles Newirth, Victoria Alonso, Stephen Broussard, Alan Fine, Stan Lee and Dan Mintz are executive producers. The film is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.
