Lea Salonga Receives MYX Magna Award at the 2013 MYX Music Awards

The country’s no. 1 music channel MYX has once again honored Filipino music (OPM) and artists at this year’s glamorous 80’s themed MYX Music Awards held at the Music Museum, Greenhills, San Juan last Wednesday (March 20).

Much-coveted trophies were given to the deserving winners from 18 various categories while the MYX Magna award was bestowed to the Filipino global artist, Lea Salonga handed by MYX Channel Head Andre Allan Alvarez.

Prior to this, Julie Ann San Jose, Erik Santos, K-La Rivera, Juris, Richard Poon, Nikki Gil, Christian Bautista and Rachelle Ann Go, amazed the crowd as they paid tribute to Salonga as they sang their own renditions of “I Am But A Small Voice,” “A Whole New World,” “We Could Be In Love,” “Reflection,” and “Sun And Moon” which she popularized in the well-loved musical “Miss Saigon.”

These artists celebrated Salonga’s achievements by singing “Tagumpay Nating Lahat” all together.

Salonga was surprised and overwhelmed witnessing country’s quality artists singing her songs. “All they told me was I would just receive this trophy. They did not tell me that eight of our country’s brightest and best singers would be singing my music, and with all due respect to the people at MYX, I think the biggest reward I got tonight came from these eight incredible people who more than did justice to my music,” she said.

She also imparted that passion is the biggest factor for an artist to excel in the business. “You have to love this more than air, more than food, more than sex. All I’m saying is that it has to be a basic need as what can make you survive as a human being,” she added.

The MYX Magna Award is given to an icon who established an image and sound of Filipino music, not only in the Philippines, but also abroad.

Top awards also honored Sarah Geronimo as she was named Favorite Artist while Abra’s “Gayuma” with Thyro and Jeriko Aguilar was awarded Favorite Music Video of the Year.

Christian Bautista was awarded Favorite Male Artist, while Yeng Constantino was recognized as the Favorite Female Artist. Daniel Padilla, meanwhile, was named Favorite New Artist.

This year’s MYX Music Awards was packed with remarkable performances from several music acts by the country’s most talented guest performers. Among those who performed at the Music Museum stage were Beatbox Philippines, Yeng Constantino, Princess Velasco, Robin Nievera, Sam Concepcion, Anja Aguilar, KZ Tandingan, Zendee, Kean Cipriano, Elmo Magalona, Neocolours, Abra, Rhay Ty, Jose Amarra, Quest, Kamikazee, Hilera, and Typecast.

It was hosted by well-loved MYX VJs Iya, Nikki, Chino, Michelle and K.A. with fabulous celebrities as presenters.

Pilipinas Got Talent Season 4 Top 36 Reveals this Sunday

Big Three judges Kris Aquino, Ai Ai Delas Alas, and Freddie “FMG” Garcia deliberate on the acts that made it through the audition round and trim them down to only 36 that will enter the quarter finals in the much-awaited and tension-filled “Judges Cull” round this Sunday (March 24) in ABS-CBN’s hit talent-reality show “Pilipinas Got Talent.”

Out of more than 29,000 hopefuls, including those who joined the global and online auditions, 104 acts got the coveted judges’ yes votes. From this roster, the Big Three must then pick only the top 36 acts that will make it through the quarter finals. Whose dreams will end this week? Will the judges unanimously pick the 36 quarterfinalists or will tension rise once more in the Judges Cull room? But before that, some acts are still hoping to make the cut in the last round of auditions this season. One of which is the synchronized swimming act that will be seen for the first time on Philippine TV.

In order for the judges and viewers to better appreciate the act, PGT constructed a special and aquarium-like pool so as to see every move the synchronized swimmers will do underwater. Keep watching “Pilipinas Got Talent 4,” hosted by Luis Manzano and Billy Crawford, every Saturday, after “MMK,” and every Sunday, after “Rated K” on ABS-CBN.

‘The Croods’ Salutes Spring Solstice 2013 at Stonehenge

‘The Croods’ Salutes Spring Solstice 2013 at Stonehenge

In celebration of the Spring Solstice 2013 and in conjunction with the release of Twentieth Century Fox's 3D animation ‘The Croods’ - a family animation centered around the first ever pre historic road trip - a giant monument was erected at Stonehenge at sunrise on Tuesday 19th March.  This marks the first time a modern structure has ever been allowed on this historic site.  Recreating the original construction of Stonehenge, the local boy scouts troop will also be on hand to help roll the new colossal monument into place.

The Spring Solstice or ‘Vernal Equinox’ recognises the first day of spring and each year sees druids and pagans gather at Stonehenge early in the morning to watch the sun rise above the prehistoric stones.  This year an additional monument, in the shape of ‘The Croods’, will become part of these special celebrations at daybreak.

‘Meet the first modern family, The Croods, whose world is rocked by generational clashes and seismic shifts that come to a head on a wild road trip filled with dazzling adventures, amazing firsts (like fire…and shoes), never before seen creatures and the epic discovery that they’ll have to stay one step ahead of the ever-changing world or get left in the prehistoric dust.’

Notes to Editors

The Croods is a 3D comedy adventure that follows the world's first modern family through the journey of a lifetime. The Croods is in cinemas 22 March 2013.

DreamWorks Animation SKG presents The Croods. The film is directed by Chris Sanders & Kirk DeMicco, and produced by Kristine Belson and Jane Hartwell.  The screenplay is by Kirk DeMicco & Chris Sanders, with a story by John Cleese, Kirk DeMicco and Chris Sanders. The music is by Alan Silvestri.

The film stars Nicolas Cage as Grug, Ryan Reynolds as Guy, Emma Stone as Eep, Catherine Keener as Ugga, Clark Duke as Thunk, and Cloris Leachman as Gran.

The Croods presents an age known as the Croodaceous Period, which, says DeMicco, “fell between the Jurassic Age and the ‘Katzenzoic Era’– at least according to DreamWorks archaeologists.” It is a world of visual splendor and grandeur that holds innumerable challenges for the beleaguered clan.

Riverymaya Returns with a Brand-new Album "Panatang Makabanda"

Riverymaya Returns with a Brand-new Album "Panatang Makabanda"

Iconic and multi-platinum-selling band Rivermaya makes a local recording scene comeback with the much-awaited release of their album Panatang Makabanda, under Universal Records. The album is their first in four years and their first with Universal Records.

Rivermaya is now composed of Mark Escueta, Norby David, Mike Elgar and Ryan Peralta.

Rivermaya joins the label’s elite roster of bands – Parokya Ni Edgar, Kamikazee, Sponge Cola, Calla Lily, among others.

It's really a great honor for us, not only to become part of such a high-calibre roster, but to be given the chance to work with a company that has always championed the Filipino artist. It took a few weeks for it to really sink in. Di kami makapaniwala,” says Mark. “Finally, we're ‘home.’”

The album’s single Pilipinas, Kailan Ka Magigising, penned by founding Rivermaya member Mark Escueta, is reminder to everyone to go against crab mentality, and selfishness, especially now that another elections is within the horizon once again.

When asked how the single was chosen among the tracks recorded for the forthcoming Panatang Makabanda album, drummer-turned-guitarist Mark quips, “In the early stages of recording, this song became the initial favorite of the group. It's also a fun song to play live.  Maganda yung message ng kanta and very timely rin since election time nanaman tayo.

Norby adds, "Hopefully our new record can take the fans to a whole new level and attract more new listeners to our songs and stories. We are all excited for what each of us can bring to the table, and soon to your ears."

When asked to sum up his Rivermaya journey from 1993 to 2013 founding member Mark says: “One of my firm beliefs is that the best part about being a musician is the PROCESS. If you enjoy the process then all your gigs, songs and albums will be celebrations after a great day at the ‘dream office.’ If the process is messed up, many things can go wrong and it can even end up as a painful experience. It has to be good for everybody, not just one or two. Few people know, and I’m sure a lot of my fellow musicians will agree, that one of the most important things that keeps a band going is something that is not so musical in nature. It’s called laughter. A band that laughs together, stays together. Diyan mayaman ang Rivermaya ngayon, tawanan, pagkakaibigan at bagong musika.”

Stay in touch with Rivermaya through their facebook page www.facebook.com/rivermayamusic, Twitter and Instagram: @rivermayaband and also check out the bands voice blogs on the Bubbly App for iOS or
Android. Their official website is www.rivermaya.ph.

James Yap Earns P60-M from Kris Aquino's Annulment

Could it be true that James Yap's annulment with Kris Aquino made him a P60-milliion richer?

In a report today by Pilipino Star Ngayon entertainment columnist Salve A. Asis, Atty. Frank Chavez, Kris' legal counsel said that James earned more than P60-million as part of his legal separation with ex-wife Kris Aquino.

To quote:

"Sinabi pa ng abogado sa nasabing artikulo na kung gusto lang ni Kris gamitin ang kapangyarihan ng pamilya, noon pa sana - sa panahong inaayos ang kanilang annulment.

“Had she only wanted to use power and influence, she could have used that to avoid having to share the properties that she earned with Mr. Yap, but she did not.”

“The records show - and we can prove it - that most of the property came from the labor of Kris, not James.

“He got P14.5 million in cash, he got real property. If you add that up all together, including the two sports cars, vehicles that he got, it’s more than P60 million,” sabi pa ng abogado.

“He doesn’t even spend for gasoline or electricity in the house. What he earns, he keeps to himself. That’s the kind of man you have,” sabi pa ni Chavez."

Hollywood-Based Filipino Actor Tobit Raphael Joins Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn in "The Internship"

Nick (Owen Wilson) and Billy (Vince Vaughn) battle it out with the techies in “The Internship” as two old-school salesmen in their 40's who use old fashioned charm and brilliant sales technique to sell watches.  On the night that they try to close a big sale with a client, to their shock, they find that their company has been shut down because kids don’t wear watches anymore.  Suddenly, they find themselves unemployed as two dinosaurs in the digital world.

After an exhaustive job search online, Billy chanced upon an opportunity for them to reinvent themselves – an internship program with Google.

20th Century Fox now brings the latest trailer of “The Internship” tracking the misadventures of Wilson and Vaughn as they try to pass an internship interview at Google.  As seen on the trailer, the interview is conducted via Google Hangout and the two being first-time online interviewees get too close to the camera and shout loudly into the microphone.  As luck would have it, the two passes the internship interview through common sense, imagination and charm.

At Google, where it’s worlds away from anything they have experienced before, they find themselves in a sea of tech-savvy 20-year-olds who they need to compete against to win a full-time employment at Google.

They eventually team up with a sexually curious nerd, a mobile phone obsessed geek and Yoyo (Tobit Raphael) a genius Asian kid who lacks social and common life skills and Lyle who is an underdog who wants to fit in.  Going through training and competing with kids half their age, they are hell-bent to prove that it’s never too late to reinvent yourself.  The movie also stars Rose Byrne, John Goodman, Dylan O’Brien and Josh Gad.

“The Internship” opens in Philippine cinemas on June 7 from 20th Century Fox.

"I've been working myself up to do it because I'm not used to being on TV everyday... I've been offered a show for next year," the Filipino-American rapper revealed.

Kapamilya actors John Prats and Jason Francisco were involved in a spat during the rehearsals for a late-night gag show "Banana Split" on Thursday night at the Music Museum in San Juan City.

According to John, he was hit three times by Jason on his cheek and chin.

"I was watching sa rehearsal ng 'Banana Split' then from behind sa likod ko, sinapak niya ako sa mukha, dito at dito (pointing to chin, cheek). Nasa likod siya. Tapos nung humarap na ako, sabi ko, 'Anong problema mo?

"Hindi ko alam kung bakit niya ako biglang sinapak. Para akong nakakita ng demonyo," John told ABS-CBN News.

"Paglaki ng anak ko, gusto ko malaman niya na ibinigay ko ang lahat. Dahil noong nabubuhay ang mommy namin, binigay niya ang lahat para sa amin. So ibinibigay ko ang lahat para sa anak ko. It’s not between James and me and who is telling the truth. It’s about how much I love my son. Tama naman ang sinabi ng mga tao na kawawa na si Bimby so kailangan gawin ko ito para sa kanya.

"It was a decision I made on the way here because my heart was breaking seeing how much my son was suffering. Hindi ginusto ni Bimby na maging ganito ang sitwasyon ng buhay niya pero at five years old, I owe him a future.

"My sisters don’t know that this is what I was going to say. My lawyer doesn’t know that this is what I was going to say. Hihingi na ako ng paumanhin sa mga bosses natin. I asked myself on my way here because ilang beses ko nakausap si Bimb, ilang beses ko siyang tinanong dahil alam ko na malalaman niya itong pagsasalitang ito. Tinanong ko siya, ‘Bimb, is it okay if mama will talk?’

"It broke my heart because ang sinabi ng anak ko, ‘Mama just say it’s Bimb.’ Sinabi ng anak ko na siya na lang daw. Ganun kalaki ang pagmamahal niya para sa akin so I asked myself, paglaki ko ba siyang harapin at sabihin na lahat kinaya kong isakripisyo para sa kanya?

"I’m stating this now categorically, I have to make a sacrifice. They don’t deserve this, my family doesn’t deserve this suffering. I don’t want to be selfish for the rest of my life. Humihingi ako ng paumanhin lalong-lalo na sa lahat ng katrabaho ko na nandito ngayon pero sana maunawaan ninyo ako, I have to do what’s best for my son and that means sacrificing this career, sacrificing this job.

"Inisip ko eh bago ko pa sabihin iyan, may sapat na ba akong naipon para maging komportable kami? Siguro ito na ang sinasabi ng mom ko dati na ‘Sana matuto ka maging simple.’ The only way that I can tell my son when he’s an adult na Bimb ginawa ko ang lahat para sa‘yo.

"I’m giving up my shows. Hindi ko sinasabi 'yan just so that I can say na I’m the one making the bigger sacrifice. Tinatalikuran ko ang mundo na kinilala ko na bumuhay sa akin dahil higit doon sa karera ko, mas mahal ko ang anak ko."

"I am tendering my resignation!"

When asked if her decision to leave showbusiness would mean leaving permanently what she loves doing, an emotional Kris said, "I don’t know. I can’t speak about forever, I can speak about what’s best for my son. Sa ngayon, sa puso ng isang nanay, ito ang idinidikta sa akin na gawin ko ito para sa anak ko".

Kris currently have 3 ABS-CBN shows including the fourth season of the talent search Pilipinas Got Talent, the weekday morning talk show KrisTV and the primetime soap Kailangan Ko'y Ikaw and tons of product endorsements.

Siguro naniniwala ako na ang sugat gumagaling, pero unti-unti.” were the exact words Marian Rivera have said when asked if she is now ready to do project with Heart Evangelista after their friendship fell apart during the shooting of the 2011 movie Temptation Island.

Marian Rivera is currently promoting her latest romantic-comedy movie with Richard Gutierrez titled "My Lady Boss".

Directed by Jade Castro and produced by Regal Entertainment and GMA Films, “My Lady Boss” opens in theaters nationwide on April 10, 2013.

Three Men You Need to Meet Now – Richard Yap, Alden Richards, and Paulo Avelino on YES! Magazine April 2013 Issue

Three Men You Need to Meet Now – Richard Yap, Alden Richards, and Paulo Avelino on YES! Magazine April 2013 Issue

On its 13th anniversary issue this month of April, Yes! Magazine, as its Editor-in-chief Jo-Ann Maglipon writes in her editor’s note "we look back to the past 13 years, we find ourselves looking more into the future – seeking out new stars, new stories, and new events.”

And as part of the celebration, the magazine features three of today’s hottest male celebrities who are turning up the kilig factor on TV these days and share their stories and their never-before-seen personal photos in an exclusive feature: Men You Need To Meet Now.

First up is Be Careful With My Heart leading man Richard Yap who tells YES! how he still can’t believe how popular he has become. “Naiisip ko, ‘Bakit?’ Pumasok lang ako ng showbiz, naging guwapo na ako. Dati naman, wala namang nagsasabi sa akin n’on, nanay ko lang,” Richard says in candid disbelief. So why have women found a new matinee idol in him? His co-star Jodi Sta. Maria explains: “There’s a certain air of mystery, e. Kasi, kapag tiningnan mo siya, parang hindi siya pala-interview na tao. And he doesn’t share much his personal life with the public. And girls like that.”

On the other hand, Alden Richards, thinking beyond his years, talks about his mother’s passing, how a woman should be treated, and his eventful family life. Alden, with conviction, reveals what he doesn’t want in his future girlfriend to be – a smoker. “My mom died because she’s a smoker. […] If I were to have a girlfriend, I would ask her to stop na lang. Kasi I don’t want their family to experience what I’ve experienced because of that stick.”

At the peak of his career, Paulo Avelino will inspire you to always work hard to be better. “… I’ve learned, you can’t do the same thing over and over again dahil dito sa Pilipinas, we’ve got millions and millions [of people], di ba? […] So pag aarte ka, kailangan iba-iba rin kasi. […] People should see something different each time. Make them believe that you’re someone else,” Paulo divulges about constantly improving his craft.

Continuing the inspiring line-up of stories is Chef Boy Logro as he tells YES! his Ingredients for Triumph. Thinking of how far he has achieved, Chef Boy looks back on his humble beginnings. “No’ng bata pa po ako, ako po’y naging parang muro ami [an illegal and hazardous fishing method that employs child labor.] Kasama ako ng tatay kong namimingwit. Kung nakakahuli kami – limang kilo, tatlong kilo. Pagdaong namin, ‘yon ang aming ‘binebenta. Kung wala naman, wala talaga. So halos isang kahig, isang tuka. Totoo po ‘yan sa buhay namin.” From being a dishwasher who didn’t know how to cook, to being the personal chef of the Sultan of Oman, to being the first Filipino executive chef in a 5-star hotel, Chef Boy will motivate you to constantly believe in yourself despite what others might say.

Also not to miss is an exclusive coverage of TV host Pia Guanio and businessman Steve Mago as they take YES! to their renewal of vows and the dedication ceremony of their 5-month old daughter, Scarlet Jenine. Also in this issue is Gretchen Barretto and Tonyboy Cojuangco’s unica hija Dominique Cojuangco as she makes her first public appearance in a lavish debutante ball inspired by the cinematic classic Wizard of Oz.

Be in the know on the latest showbiz updates and happenings when you grab a copy of YES! magazine, now available in newsstands, bookstores, and supermarkets nationwide for only P100. A digital edition of YES! is also available at http://summitnewsstand.com.ph/yes-magazine.

James Yap Answers Kris Aquino's Complaint, Narrates What Happened Between Them on December 3, 2012

James Yap Answers Kris Aquino's Complaint, Narrates What Happened Between Them on December 3, 2012

Kris Aquino files a Permanent Protection Order (TRO) under Republict Act 9262 o Anti-Violence Against Women And Their Children Act against ex-husband cager James Yap before the Makati City court due to “overstepping his boundaries and of attempting to seduce her while visiting her home, and of inflicting psychological harm on their son Bimby.”

In her petition, Kris asked the court to “to stay away from her, her 5-year-old son Bimby and any household member, keep a distance of at least 100 meters, and to stay away from her residence, school, place of employment or any place frequented by her and her son.”

***

James Yap reacts on ex-wife's decision to file a PPO against him, saying what happened between them in December 3, 2012 was all sort of a misunderstanding.

As a father, sobrang nasasaktan ako, sinasabihan akong ‘I don’t like you, you’re a liar. Iniisip ko ano bang ginawa ko? Wala naman akong ginawa. Tinanong ko, ‘Sinong natuturo sa ’yo niyan?’ ‘Mama, mama.’

In an interview with ABS-CBN News, James also denied Kris' accusations that he made overt sexual advances on her.

Sabi ni Bimb ‘I don’t like.’

Tapos biglang si Kris nagsabi na ‘Sinasaktan mo ako, you’re hurting me.’

Pag-hug niya sabi ‘No no I don’t like you... Ang mukha ni Kris [nang-aasar pa]. Kaya sabi ko, ‘Ikaw talaga!’ Sinusumbong ko kay Bimb. ‘Bimb look at your mama’s face oh, she’s smiling.’

The next day, tinawagan niya ako.

In return, James already sought a hold departure order from the court before Kris and the kids leaves the country on Holy Week. He also appealed to Kris’ camp for them to have a dialogue to settle things.
