KC Concepcion, Cristine Reyes and Meg Imperial Sign Contract with ABS-CBN

Two of today’s hottest stars, KC Concepcion and Cristine Reyes, choose to remain Kapamilya as they renewed their respective contracts with ABS-CBN. The network also welcomes Meg Imperial.

KC makes a big comeback in acting as she will appear with Judy Ann Santos and Sam Milby in the anticipated drama “Against All Odds” after her first teleserye “Lovers in Paris” in 2009. She will also have hosting projects for the network.

For her part, Cristine said she does not regret joining ABS-CBN. After appearing in “Dahil Sa Pag-Ibig,” Cristine will join Dawn Zulueta, Gerald Anderson, Dina Bonnevie, and Diana Zubiri in “Bukas Na Lang Kita Mamahalin” airing very soon.

Meanwhile, 20-year old Meg made a buzz recently after her controversial cover last December in a well-known men’s magazine and her daring role in a movie produced by Viva Films, “Menor De Edad” last January.

Meg already appeared in ABS-CBN’s top-rating program “Maalaala mo Kaya” with Ketchup Eusebio. The young actress is overwhelmed as she joins her new home.

Present during the signing were ABS-CBN president and CEO Charo Santos-Concio, broadcast head Cory Vidanes, TV production head Laurenti Dyogi, and Viva entertainment head Veronique del Rosario.

Jed Madela ‘All Original’ Album Released

World singing champion Jed Madela feels nothing but excitement about the launch of his debut album titled “All Original” released by his new recording label Star Records.

It’s my first full project with Star Records and it is also my first all-original album,” said Jed. “We have put so much work into it that the very moment I heard the final tracks, I am already looking forward to sharing it with everyone who has been supporting my music.”

“All Original” features songs, which according to Jed, are new and far from usual. “Everything sounds different and the songs express different feelings. Actually, each one can be a potential single on its own,” said Jed, who is set to celebrate later this year his 10th anniversary in the music industry. “Of course, the signature ‘high note ballads’ wil be in the album but there are tracks that will make the listeners wonder if it is really me singing.”

True to its title, Jed’s first albumunder Star Records features 10 original tracks including his carrier single ‘Ikaw Na,’ ‘Wish,’ ‘When Love Once Was Beautiful,’ ‘Dito Lang,’ ‘Ipinapangako Ko,’ ‘Sa Habang Buhay,’ ‘Dalangin Ko,’ ‘Will Forever,’ ‘Home To You,’ and Jed’s very own composition titled ‘Tanging ikaw.’ The album also contains bonus mixes of ‘Wish’ and ‘Dito Lang.’

Apart from his latest album, the first Filipino champion of the prestigious World Championship of the Performing Arts (WCOPA) shares another milestone to his career as he was recently hailed as the first Filipino to be inducted into the Performing Arts Hall of Fame in Hollywood. Jed is the first Grand Champion Performer of the World to be awarded the treasured Achievement Award and inducted into the elite Performing Arts Hall of Fame that will have a live worldwide webcast on July 19.

Jed’s “All Original” album will be launched in “ASAP 18″ this Sunday (March 3) and will soon be available on record bars nationwide for only P350.

Kathryn Bernardo - Daniel Padilla - Liza Soberano Love Triangle in ‘Must Be…Love’

Kathryn Bernardo - Daniel Padilla - Liza Soberano Love Triangle in ‘Must Be…Love’

This generation’s hottest love team, Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla, are both honored and thankful with the newest blessing given to their love team–the highly anticipated romantic movie from Star Cinema, “Must Be…Love,” which will hit cinemas nationwide on March 13..

Coming from the phenomenal success of the country’s no.1 teen primetime teleserye “Princess and I” and the overwhelming support of the public to their love team’s first two movies namely, “24/7″ and “Sisterakas,” Kathryn and Daniel are set to win moviegoers’ hearts via their launching movie directed by one of the “Princess and I” directors Dado Lumibao.

Masayang-masaya ‘yung feeling na may pelikula na kami ni DJ (palayaw ni Daniel) kasi isang honor po talaga na mabigyang kami ng chance na makagawa ng isang pelikula right after our teleserye,” said Kathryn. “Excited kami ni DJ sa project na ‘to pero pareho rin kaming kinakabahan kasi ibang-iba nga talaga ‘yung movie compared sa mga ginawa namin sa ‘Princess and I.

Despite the pressure, Daniel admitted that Kathryn is a big factor that made him more driven to to do his best in the unique romantic movie, where they play as childhood best friends Patchot (Kathryn) and Ivan (Daniel). He said, “Happy ako kasi parang araw-araw kaming magkasama. At kung dati ay komportable kami sa isa’t isa, ngayon talagang super close na kami. Iba ‘yung bonding namin ni Kathryn. Sa sobrang saya, parang hindi na trabaho ‘yung ginagawa namin.”

When asked about their ‘secret to success,’ Kathryn and Daniel only had a simple reply–they’re just keeping it real and true.

Siguro naging interesting sa viewers ‘yung pagiging love team namin ni DJ kahit very opposite kami pagdating sa pananamit, pananalita, pagkilos, and personality,” said Kathryn. “Yung ibang teenagers like us, nakikita nila ‘yung mga sarili nila sa amin. At kami, ‘yung mga ginagawa namin, pang-age lang talaga namin.

With the solid support of Filipino viewers across the globe, both Kathryn and Daniel ensured that their launching movie “Must Be…Love” will be different from their past projects. “Sobrang layo nung characters namin ni Kathryn dito compared sa ‘Princess and I.’ Yung look ko palang dito iba na, ‘yung look din ni Kathryn iba talaga,” shared Daniel.

Aside from Kathryn and Daniel, also part of “Must Be…Love” are Liza Soberano, John Estrada, John Lapus, Miguel Morales, Kit Thompson, Ramon Christopher, Janus del Prado, Sharlene San Pedro, Paul Salas, Cacai Bautista and Arlene Muhlach.

“Must Be…Love” is written by Mae Chua and Melai Monge, under the guidance of Star Cinema’s award-winning writer Vanessa Valdez.

Sarah Geronimo and Paulo Avelino in Sarah G. Presents Drama Anthology

Sarah Geronimo and Paulo Avelino in Sarah G. Presents Drama Anthology

Sarah Geronimo and Paulo Avelino will join forces for the former’s pilot episode of her own drama anthology, Sarah G. Presents.

Sarah is putting her acting cap back on as she gears up for the first taping day for “Sarah G Presents: Drama Anthology.

The singer-actress will play a variety of roles in the anthology, beginning with the first episode “Sapilitan”.

For Sarah, who was last seen acting in 2011 in the movie “Won’t Last A Day Without You,” the new TV show opens up a new chapter in her career as she feels privileged to be among esteemed, veteran actresses who have been given their own drama anthologies in the past.

But while she is thrilled with the new opportunity, Sarah admitted that she also feels the pressure of proving her talent for drama - even if she has done this before in the teleseryes “Bituing Walang Ningning” and “Pangarap na Bituin.”

At ‘yung production namin, magtutulungan kami para maging maganda ang drama anthology,” she said.

Sarah is hoping it will be easier for her to pull off some drama since she already has life experiences to take her acting to the next level.

Meanwhile, the 25-year old singer said she is looking forward to working with Paulo, whom she describes as a very dedicated and passionate actor.

First time to work with him. Sa ‘Sarah G Live‘ nag-guest na siya several times. Impression ko sa kanya as an actor, dedicated, passionate. Talagang nakikita ko sa performances niya na talagang bigay-todo. Ang galing, effective siya. As a person, mukha siyang mabuting tao,” she said.

Paulo, for his part, said he is honored to be chosen to headline the pilot episode of Sarah’s anthology.

Sa dami ng puwedeng pagpiliang aktor sa ABS-CBN, ako ‘yung nabigyan ng pagkakataon para gawin itong pilot episode ng ‘Sarah G Presents.’ First time ko po siyang makakatrabaho sa isang pagganap,” he said.

I’ve always wanted to work with Sarah for a film. Pero medyo napaaga, naging para dito sa show niya. I’m very lucky and happy to be part of the show,” he added.

Asked to describe Sarah, Paulo said: “Sarah is very quiet, very kind. May mga konting scenes kasi na ginawa na kami kanina, medyo nakakatawa rin. Bagay na bagay talaga siya sa romantic-comedy- themed episode.”

Big-Hearted Comedy “Admission” Showing Exclusively at Ayala Malls Cinemas

Big-Hearted Comedy “Admission” Showing Exclusively at Ayala Malls Cinemas

Tina Fey (“30 Rock”) and Paul Rudd (“Knocked Up”) are paired for the first time on-screen in Focus Features' “Admission,” the new comedy/drama directed by Academy Award nominee Paul Weitz (“About a Boy”) about the surprising detours we encounter on the road to happiness.

“Admission” will be shown exclusively at Ayala Malls Cinemas starting March 22 – the same opening day as the US. Moviegoers can catch the film at Glorietta 4, Greenbelt 3, Trinoma, Alabang Town Center and Market! Market!

In “Admission,” high school seniors anxiously await letters of college admission that will affirm and encourage their potential. At Princeton University, admissions officer Portia Nathan (Fey) is a gatekeeper evaluating thousands of applicants. Year in and year out, Portia has lived her life by the book, at work as well as at the home she shares with Princeton professor Mark (Michael Sheen). When Clarence (Wallace Shawn), the Dean of Admissions, announces his impending retirement, the likeliest candidates to succeed him are Portia and her office rival Corinne (Gloria Reuben). For Portia, however, it’s business as usual as she hits the road on her annual recruiting trip.

On the road, Portia reconnects with her iconoclastic mother, Susannah (Lily Tomlin). On her visit to New Quest, an alternative high school, she then reconnects with her former college classmate, idealistic teacher John Pressman (Rudd) – who has recently surmised that Jeremiah (Nat Wolff), a gifted yet very unconventional New Quest student, might well be the son that Portia secretly gave up for adoption years ago while at school. Jeremiah is about to apply to Princeton.

Now Portia must re-evaluate her personal and professional existences, as she finds herself bending the admissions rules for Jeremiah, putting at risk the future she thought she always wanted – and in the process finding her way to a surprising and exhilarating life and romance she never dreamed of having.

I’ve written plays with female protagonists but am embarrassed that I haven’t directed a movie whose clear lead was a woman,” confesses director Paul Weitz. “I wanted to spend time with this character, Portia Nathan.”

Continues Weitz, “I was very lucky to work with Tina Fey on `Admission.' Her breadth of intelligence and her lack of pretentiousness are qualities I aspire to. Reading her book Bossypants was a good cheat-sheet for directing her.”

On what drew him to the story of “Admission,” the director notes, “Thematically, I like stories of screwed-up people who think they don’t have anything to offer emotionally but who cobble together an unconventional family. It’s a fable, but one might as well tell that kind of fable as the pace of cultural change speeds up. We can either get over our germ phobia and link hands or go flying off the centrifuge.”

Jamie Foxx Unbound in “Django Unchained”

Jamie Foxx Unbound in “Django Unchained”

Academy Award-winner Jamie Foxx (“Ray”) stars as the titular slave who metamorphosed into a gun-slinging free man, in Columbia Pictures' blood-soaked revenge thriller “Django Unchained.” The film is written and directed by Quentin Tarantino who've just won an Oscar for his original screenplay.

Set in the South two years before the Civil War, “Django Unchained” revolves around Django (Foxx), a slave whose brutal history with his former owners lands him face-to-face with German-born bounty hunter Dr. King Schultz (Christoph Waltz). Schultz is on the trail of the murderous Brittle brothers, and only Django can lead him to his bounty. The unorthodox Schultz acquires Django with a promise to free him upon the capture of the Brittles – dead or alive.

Success leads Schultz to free Django, though the two men choose not to go their separate ways. Instead, Schultz seeks out the South’s most wanted criminals with Django by his side. Honing vital hunting skills, Django remains focused on one goal: finding and rescuing Broomhilda (Kerry Washington), the wife he lost to the slave trade long ago.

Jamie and I got together and he was just terrific,” Tarantino recalls. “He understood the story, the context of the story and the historical importance of the film. He got it 100%. He’s a terrific actor and he looks perfect for the character, but there’s a cowboy quality to him. When I met him, I was imagining that if they cast black guys in the 60s to be the stars of Western TV shows, I could imagine Jamie having his own TV show. He looks good on a horse, and good in the outfit.”

Foxx responded to the script’s honest portrayal of the brutality of slavery. “It was the most incredible script I’ve read in all of my life,” Foxx says. “I thought, ‘Who has the guts, and the knowledge to tell it like it really is?’ I thought that the way Quentin’s telling the story -- as true and as honest -- if it rips your flesh off, so be it. That’s what was exciting about the process.”

Foxx notes that Django and Broomhilda’s devotion to each other allowed for a personal, intimate window into these characters. “Back at that time, to be married was taboo. You could be killed. They forced marriages back then – or they forced copulation – so the strongest buck would mate with the strongest black woman and they could get stronger slaves. They didn’t want black people to be married. So Django being married was a big thing for me. This is a love story. And that’s what fuels him. He’s not trying to stop slavery. He’s not trying to do anything but find the love of his life – which is like trying to find a needle in a world of haystacks.”

The reason that we tighten up because it was a bad place,” Foxx continues. “It was a dangerous time, and we sometimes feel that it does hold us in captivity without the chains, metaphorically.”

Opening across the Philippines on March 13, “Django Unchained” has been rated R-16 With No Cuts by the MTRCB. It's distributed by Columbia Pictures, local office of Sony Pictures Releasing International.

Mila Kunis is Theodora The Innocent Witch in “Oz The Great and Powerful”

Mila Kunis is Theodora The Innocent Witch in “Oz The Great and Powerful”

Fresh from her acclaimed turn in “Black Swan,” Mila Kunis now plays the beautiful, innocent witch Theodora, who is easily manipulated by both her powerful sister Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and the ever-so-charming Oscar (James Franco) in Walt Disney Pictures' 3D fantasy adventure “Oz the Great and Powerful.

Theodora is a good witch when we first meet her,” notes director Sam Raimi about the character. “When Oscar first gets to the Land of Oz, he meets her and is smitten by her beauty. She is innocent and has the good will of the people at heart, then is easily manipulated by James’ character. At this point, Oscar is a great manipulator and a selfish flirt. He woos and romances her, then leaves her be and breaks her heart.

Theodora is a really nice, sweet, naive witch who truly wants to bring peace to the land,” Kunis elaborates. “She is a girl who desperately wants to believe in good and believe in the betterment of society, the betterment of the people and betterment of the world. She is also in so much denial of the bad that she doesn’t even think it exists.

“There’s a prophecy that the previous king predicted on his deathbed saying that this man would come and save the Land of Oz,” the actress details further about her character. “She sees this balloon drop from the sky and on the balloon it says ‘The Great and Powerful Oz’. Without a doubt in her mind, she believes that this is the great and powerful wizard that is coming to save the Land of Oz from the Wicked Witch.”

When first writing the character of Theodora, I wanted her to be between Glinda and Evanora while being pulled by both sides,” screenwriter Mitchell Kapner relates. “When we first meet her, she loves her older sister, but she is also fond of goodness, which Glinda represents.

Theodora is someone who’s innocent in a way,” Kapner continues in describing the character and how he developed her backstory that is not in the Baum books. “There is a line where she says ‘no one’s ever asked me to dance before.’ She is very innocent and protected in a lot of ways.

Theodora’s my younger sister who’s good, but also has a streak of wickedness in her because she’s my sister,” Weisz chimes in about the dynamic of the character. “I try to seduce her over to the dark side through different events, which I manipulate because I need her on my side. If I can get Theodora on my side, it would be two against one and I could then beat Glinda, the Good Witch.”

In choosing Kunis for the signature role, Raimi explains that he saw her in two very different films that cemented his decision to cast her in the role of Theodora. “I saw Mila Kunis in ‘Forgetting Sarah Marshall’ and she was very sweet. She’s adorable and really funny with a great sense of humor. I knew when I saw that picture that she was a great actress who could play the innocent side of Theodora. When I saw the brilliant movie ‘Black Swan,’ I also saw the darker side of her, a streak of ‘witchiness’ that represented the other side of what I needed for the portrayal of Theodora. So, between those two performances, she showed me that she had everything that she needed for this part.”

Kunis admits that she had some trepidation when she was approached about the role. “I mean it was Sam Raimi first and ‘Oz The Great and Powerful’ in the same sentence. It wasn’t so much intriguing as it was frightening to me, and that’s the truth.

Despite her reservations, Kunis decided to take a meeting with director Sam Raimi. “I went to meet Sam and what was supposed to be a thirty-minute meet ended up being like four hours long. We broke down the character and the script and grounded everything in reality, which was incredibly comforting to me.”

Kunis adds, “What I think intrigued me about it was the unknown. I’ve never done anything remotely close to this. In saying that, you have to challenge yourself, and I felt safe in the challenge because I was surrounded by people whom I respected so much - Sam first and foremost.

Opening across the Philippines on Thursday, March 7 in IMAX 3D, Digital 3D and regular theaters, “Oz The Great and Powerful” is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures International through Columbia Pictures.

Mia Wasikowska's Innocence Ends in “Stoker”

Mia Wasikowska's Innocence Ends in “Stoker”

The highly-anticipated thriller “Stoker” starring Nicole Kidman, Mia Wasikowska and Matthew Goode tells of the bizarre coming-of-age of India (Wasikowska) as she enters womanhood written by Wentworth Miller and filmed by Park Chan-Wook.

Helmed by Korean director Park which is also his debut movie in English, the movie introduces India Stoker as she loses her beloved father and best friend Richard (played by Dermot Mulroney) in an unexplained car mishap on her 18th birthday.  Upon her father’s demise, India’s life is suddenly shattered in their very secluded estate.   Left with her unstable mother Evie (Kidman) and Uncle Charlie (Goode), her father’s brother who mysteriously showed up during her father’s funeral, India experiences an unraveling of herself that surprises and frees her at the same time.

Exquisitely sensitive, India has since exhibited an impassive demeanor which masks the deep feelings and heightened senses that only her father understood.   While she initially finds herself mistrusting her uncle, he fascinates her as well and she begins to realize how much they have in common.  As Charlie reveals himself to her little by little, India becomes increasingly infatuated with her charismatic relative and comes to realize that his arrival is no coincidence. With her uncle to guide her, she is about to fulfill her unusual destiny.

She is an introverted girl confined in a suffocating house, unable to mix with anyone outside,” says director Park. “She is very rebellious as she bears the pains of adolescence. Her father’s death, her uncle’s arrival, as well as the conflict with her mother and her peers, bring her to a realization about her true identity.”

Finding an actress who could embody the contradictions of the character while making India’s transition to womanhood graceful and natural was critical to the film’s success. Park selected Australian actress Mia Wasikowska, whose delicate beauty and solemn serenity had already won the 22-year-old leading roles in films including Tim Burton’s “Alice In Wonderland” and Cary Fukanaga’s “Jane Eyre.”

Mia has the natural liveliness of a young woman,” he notes. “But she is also composed and has internal maturity. To portray a girl who is neither a woman nor a child, but at an awkward in-between stage, Mia was the most suitable actor. She has a level of restraint surprising for someone her age. She is almost completely still when she is acting. But when you watch her on film, you realize that all the necessary emotion is there. She is very subtle and skillful in a way that I expect only from older actors.

For her part, the actress says she found much to like about the project. “It is such a strong piece of writing. Director Park and the creative team are brilliant. The story is something I have never seen before. The dynamic between the characters is quite mysterious. India is a really complex young woman. Without her father, she is completely disconnected from the world. She’s an outsider by nature, closed off from the rest of the world. She is still a young girl, but she’s becoming a woman with dreams and fantasies, although they’re of a different nature than other girls’ dreams.”

It’s completely confusing and really intriguing,” Wasikowska further says. “She’s trying to figure out what role he has in her life and it’s far bigger than she ever imagined. She’s not sure what he wants from her at first, and as she slowly finds out how much alike they are, it’s both terrifying and appealing. There’s a definite sexual tension between Charlie and Evie, as well as Charlie and India, so it’s up in the air as to who and what he’s really there for. You are never really sure - until you are.”

Working with Park was a constantly evolving, and always stimulating experience for the actress. “Even on weekends, we would meet for lunch and continue discussing the character and the story,” Wasikowska says. “Ideas would snowball, becoming more and more complex and interesting. During shooting, he let us sit for long moments in silence where seemingly not much was happening, but there was always strong underlying tension. That approach was perfect for this material.”

“Stoker” opens in cinemas March 1 from 20th Century Fox to be distributed by Warner Bros.
