Happy New Year 2013 with Exciting Switch of Loveteams in ‘Luv U’

Miles Ocampo, one of the lead stars of the teen comedy series said that there are a lot to watch out for in “Luv U” for 2013.

When asked if there will be brand new love teams, she said that viewers should just watch out for it. “All I know is that it will be more exciting and nakakakilig,” she said. As of now, she and her on-screen partner Marco Gumabao have been facing difficulties in their relationship in the story and it seems like the latter is falling for a new character played by Karen Reyes.

The same thing is happening for the characters of Kiray Celis and Igi Boy Flores. Kiray said that there might be additions in characters in the coming year, but again it’s not definite. “Viewers should see if the love teams will be retained or not,” she added.

In the year-ender episode of “LUV U” this Sunday (December 30), former lovers Camille (Miles) and JB (Marco) will decide to just remain friends for the moment while lovers Whitney (Kiray) and Rocky (Igi) will discover something that will put their relationship to a test.

5 Inspiring Lives Featured in NEWS5's ‘Lima Para sa 2012′

NEWS5 presents five inspiring lives on “Lima Para sa 2012” yearend special led by the five pillars of NEWS5 Cherie Mercado, Paolo Bediones, Luchi Cruz Valdes, Erwin Tulfo and Cheryl Cosim. The TV5 special airs on December 31, 2012, at 9:30pm.

As 2012 bids goodbye, another year full of hope awaits optimistic Filipinos. According to a Pulse Asia survey, nine out of 10 Filipinos are hopeful about 2013 - the survey firm’s highest recorded number since 2005. On New Year’s Eve, NEWS5 front liners, led by its chief Luchi Cruz-Valdes and anchors Erwin Tulfo, Cheryl Cosim, Cherie Mercado and Paolo Bediones, will tell five stories of inspiration from individuals whose stories may have missed the limelight in 2012, but certainly deserve to be told.

Take for example Mang Jun Sapiton, a 51-year-old ex-convict who saw the light after a series of misfortunes that killed his sibling, child and wife. As he served his 22-year sentence, the former pirate and hired killer welcomes his second chance in life as a dried fish vendor in San Mateo, Rizal.

On the other hand, Jean Maputi provided for her family by running an illegal logging business in Malaybalay, Bukidnon for 15 years. But after an onslaught of typhoons and landslides, she realized her livelihood is costing thousands of people their very lives. Not only did she leave her past behind, Jean is now one of nature’s toughest defenders as a member of the group Bantay Kagubatan and also operates 50 hectares of mountain land, which she has dedicated as a nature conservatory and eco-park.

For 20-year old Elizabeth Ramos, the only way out of poverty is getting into sex trade. At a tender age of 15, she entered the red light district as a club dancer without her parents’ knowledge. A year after, she got pregnant and bore another one just before she got separated with her children’s father. After five years in the sex trade, Elizabeth is now ready to tell her family where she gets the money to put food on table.

Raul Felipe, a 27-year-old doctor, readily shares his story on how he and his girlfriend in the medical school went on to abort their lovechild. It took Doc Raul a few years before he finally told his parents about what happened. He’s ready to share it with everyone to encourage people not to live a lie.

Arnel is an amputee who’s been bringing glory to the country by joining the SEA Games and other international competitions as part of the Philippine team for the differently-abled. But behind his successes is a dark past. He was a former jeepney driver who made money on the sidelines living a life of crime.

Join NEWS5 as it welcomes 2013 with stories of inspiration from five individuals who chose the right path this past year. Don’t miss “Lima Para sa 2012” yearend special on New Year’s Eve (December 31), 9:30PM on TV5.

‘Sosy Problems’ Style Guide Now Available for Download

‘Sosy Problems’ Style Guide Now Available for Download

Siblings Daryl Chang and Andre Chang are two of most popular style icons in the Philippines. Add to that, Daryl is also currently the fashion editor of PREVIEW magazine and is a columnist of the Philippine Star. Daryl and Andre are the stylists for the GMA Films movie, “Sosy Problems,” which is an official entry to the 2012 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF). The movie stars Heart Evangelista, Solenn Heussaff, Bianca King and Rhian Ramos with Aljur Abrenica.

Andre and Daryl gave each lead stars of “Sosy Problems” a distinct fashion and style.

Daryl and I really made it clear that each of the girls should have a distinct style based on the characters that they are portraying,” said Andrei.

Rhian Ramos

“With Rhian, she’s kinda like the leader of the group so she’s like the very directional, trendier, trendsetter. Her choices are very bold, very “now,” very “current.” She also wears very figure-hugging clothes, she likes also to wear directional shapes, button-down shirts, etc. There’s that one favorite look that we did for her. In that scene, she was with her dad, they’re in a stable, she was wearing a button-down shirt with a red Putnam skirt so that’s a very cool look. She likes also wearing bold statement neckpieces.”

Bags: Hermes, Celine

Heart Evangelista

“For Heart, she’s like the classic, very lady-like style so her colors are mostly pastels and white, and she always wears her headband – that’s her trademark look in the movie. It’s kinda sexy but still very feminine as well. With her bags, we want them to be very classic so she’s always carrying a Chanel or Dior. For jewelry, she’s not keen on the very statement type of jewelries, hers is very subdued but very classy like diamond earings, thin gold bracelets, layered bangles, very thin layered rings, and the like.”

Bags: Chanel, Dior

Solenn Heussaff

“For Solenn, we saw her to have this like very grunge style. We incorporated different elements from like surfwear, etc. There was this scene in the movie where the girls arrived in the Polo Club in different vehicles – Rhian arrived in a helicopter, Heart in a sportscar, Solenn arrived in a Ducati – so Solenn’s style is partly “biker chic.” She wears dark clothes that are contrasted in neons, pink splatters, etc. For her accessories, she wears leather bracelets with silver studs.”

Bags: Balenciaga

Bianca King

“Bianca’s style is like that of a “retro” girl. In all of her scenes, she is seen wearing prints, specifically vintage-inspired prints. And her silhouette is usually a fitted top and layered with a full skirt. You don’t see her wearing a bodicon dress. She’s always has this vintage, prim-and-proper look. She’s always seen wearing a belt and carrying a Louis Vuitton bag.”

Bags: Louis Vuitton

Watch comedy and fashion blend on the silver screen in GMA Films’ “Sosy Problems,” which is now showing in hundreds of theatres nationwide.

ABS-CBN Wins Six Araw Values Awards 2012

ABS-CBN reaped six recognitions in the recently held 2012 Araw Values Awards including the Platinum award in the advocacy institutional advertising division for the Philippine tourism music video “Piliin Mo ang Pilipinas” produced by the ABS-CBN Regional Network Group.

ABS-CBN was again the most awarded TV network. The winning music video was created for ABS-CBN RNG’s “ChoosePhilippines” website and was interpreted by shadow theater group and “Pilipinas Got Talent 3” grand finalist El Gamma Penumbra.

It has always been an honor to win in the Araw Values Awards because it is not just about brand building but it is also nation building,” said Robert Labayen, head of ABS-CBN Creative Communications Management that is behind the award-winning music video.

Since Labayen assumed his post in 2004, ABS-CBN has already won three Platinum awards in the Araw Values Awards. When asked what set ABS-CBN’s works apart, Labayen credited it to the genuine hearts of the people working for each and every campaign they launch.

It is not the skills of the creative person that matters but his or her heart. I want them to genuinely care for the country and for the family so that they can also be able to genuinely touch the emotions of our audience,” explained Labayen. “When we create a campaign, we pay tribute to the Filipino people. It’s not how good we are as a network. It’s more of how good the Filipino people are.”

The “Piliin Mo Ang Pilipinas” music video, sung by Angeline Quinto and Vincent Bueno, successfully promoted the Araw values of Love of Country and Respect for National Customs and Tradition for showcasing thePhilippines’ beautiful tourist destinations, friendly people and unique culture. The campaign was widely recognized by Filipino worldwide that they created their own versions of the music video and uploaded it online. Even Tourism Secretary Mon Jimenez asked ChoosePhilippinesto help the DOT in its new “It’s More Fun in thePhilippines” tourism campaign.

Apart from the Platinum award, ABS-CBN also won two Silver and three Bronze awards in the Advocacy Institutional Advertising Division. “BMPM Tayo Na” won silver in the Commitment to Truth, Honesty, and Integrity category, while “Pagbangon: Traffic Enforcer” won in the Respect for Law and Authority and the Promotion of Self-Discipline category.

Meanwhile, “Pinoy Summer Da Best Forever” took home the Bronze award for the Love of Country and Respect for National Customs and Traditions category; “Pagbangon: Kapatid” for the Respect and Care for Human Life and Dignity and the Rights of All; and “Mural” for the Concern for and Preservation of Environment.

The Araw Values Awards is a prestigious award that not only recognizes the craftmanship and production values among advertising materials, but also the values it reflects particularly the seven Araw Cornerstone Values. Winners were selected by a panel of jurors composed of members of the Advertising Board, ASC, and Ad Foundation; respected foundations and non-profit organizations; the academe; and select government and international agencies and institutions.

MMFF 2012 Box-Office Gross: First Day

The results are in.

As anticipated, Star Cinema and Viva Film's "Sisterakas" and MMFF's long running film franchise "Si Agimat, Si Enteng Kabisote at Si Ako" battle as this year's highest-earning movies on the first day of the 38th Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF).

The fantasy-comedy flick starring Vic Sotto, Judy Ann Santos and Bong Revilla Jr. trailed behind Kris Aquino, Vice Ganda and Ai-Ai delas Alas' comedy movie in box-office earnings according to the unofficial box-office gross receipt reports from participating theaters.
Based on reports, "Sisterakas" earned a total of P39,194,312.65 while "Si Agimat" raked a total of P29,393,219.10 for the duration of the opening day.

Ranking 3rd is Star Cinema's family drama "One More Try," which stars Angelica Panganiban, Angel Locsin, Dindong Dantes and Zanjoe Marudo with a total of P13,160,987.40 opening gross.

Returning film franchise "Shake, Rattle and Roll Roll (SRR)," meanwhile ranked fourth on the list with P10,579,339.60 nationwide earning on opening day.

Critics Say “Sosy Problems" is a Must-See Movie this Holiday Season

GMA Films’ official entry to the 2012 Metro Manila Film Festival, “Sosy Problems,” starring Heart Evangelista, Solenn Heussaff, Bianca King and Rhian Ramos with Aljur Abrenica opened in nationwide theaters on Christmas Day along with the rest of the entries in the annual festival.

But days before its official release, "Sosy Problems" already received rave reviews from several members of the press and the online media (entertainment and fashion bloggers) as well as film critics who watched the film ahead of its regular screening schedule on Saturday, December 22. The momentum reached by the film on its opening day yesterday seems to have surpassed the expectations of critics and festival soothsayers who predicted that the movie is going to face a tough battle in the festival since its genre deviates from the usual genres of MMFF entries in past years.

Directed by Andoy Ranay, the comedy film also stars Mikael Daez as Santi, Alden Richards as Iñigo, classy character actress Cherie Gil as Martina, Mylene Dizon as Bernice, Mikey Bustos as Denmark, Tim Yap as Jamie Yap, Agot Isidro as Glory, Maritoni Fernandez as Dada, Johnny Revilla as Gabriel, Ricky Davao as Sebastian, Nova Villa as Lola Patria, Barbie Forteza as Becca, Kristoffer Martin as Israel with the special participation of Ruffa Gutierrez as Luca.

“Sosy Problems” is about four rich and famous ladies and their seemingly trivial, but nevertheless, hilarious problems.  Their main problem, however, is that their favorite hangout place, The Polo Club, which reminds them of all the memories of their “firsts” in life – including their first kisses and love affairs – is in danger of being torn down and replaced with a mall that is not so much for the rich and famous: in other words, not a “sosy” mall.

The “sosy” ladies will do everything they can in order to stop the Polo Club owners from pursuing their plans, and they will risk everything - even their poise and glamour – to achieve their goal.  In the end, out of desperation, they make a fool out of themselves - and that’s the joke.

If you’re looking for a light comedy film that will surely put a smile on your face, check out “Sosy Problems” in theatres near you.

TV5’s Enchanted Garden Leads Primetime TV Ratings in Regional Market

TV5’s Enchanted Garden Leads Primetime TV Ratings in Regional Market

TV5’s environment-focused and acclaimed primetime fantasy series Enchanted Garden leads GMA's primetime drama series in the country's regional media markets such as Dagupan, Cebu, Davao, Cagayan de Oro and General Santos City in the TV ratings (September 16 to November 30) based on Nielsen Media Research’s Metro City TV Audience Measurement (MCTAM).

In Mindanao, home to 4.4 million viewers, Enchanted Garden recorded 5.7 percent AMR (17.8 percent audience share)—toppling all GMA primetime programs, including Aso ni San Roque, One True Love, 24 Oras, Temptation Of Wife, Luna Blanca, Moon Embracing the Sun, Coffee Prince, Paroa: Ang Kuwento ni Mariposa, Angel’s Temptation and Inside Protege. TV5’s overall primetime performance of 15.7 percent audience share in the area placed GMA third among TV networks with 14.7 percent.
In particular for Cagayan de Oro, Enchanted Garden’s 6.9 percent AMR (20.9 percent audience share) ranked higher than ABS-CBN’s "Kahit Puso'y Masugatan" and all GMA primetime programs. TV5’s top-rating variety show Wil Time Bigtime ranked 8th in the overall program rankings while Enchanted Garden placed 9th. However, no GMA program made it to the Top 10 primetime rankings for the same period. TV5 further enjoyed a 5-point lead compared with GMA in the overall primetime ratings as it scored 18 percent audience share against GMA’s 12.6 percent.

Meanwhile, Enchanted Garden placed higher than all GMA primetime programs in Metro Davao with 5.3 percent AMR (18.5 percent audience share).

“We are humbled with the success of Enchanted Garden across the country. TV5 took a risk in presenting a one-of-a-kind eco-fantasya against established news programs from other networks. However, Enchanted Garden’s performance among drama formats tells us that we made the right choice. We thank all our Kapatids in the regions for accepting us in their households every night,” said TV5 First Vice President for Creative and Entertainment Production Perci Intalan.

Moreover, Enchanted Garden reigned supreme in General Santos City, with 13 percent AMR (39.7 percent audience share) leaving behind three ABS-CBN programs (A Beautiful Affair, Lorenzo's Time and Kahit Puso'y Masugatan). Two other Kapatid programs (Wil Time Bigtime, 7th and The Amazing Race Philippines, 10th) also made it to the Top 10 primetime rankings. TV5’s primetime gains left GMA with only the 12th to 25th positions among the top programs. Overall, TV5’s 29.8 percent audience share in the primetime ratings gave it a wide 12-point lead from GMA’s 17.4 percent audience share.

Likewise, in Metro Dagupan, Enchanted Garden’s strong 7.6 percent AMR (25.9 percent audience share) beat eight GMA primetime programs in the Top 20 program rankings.

Enchanted Garden also posted 6.2 percent AMR (23.2 percent audience share) in the same period in Metro Cebu - higher than all GMA primetime series and even beating its primetime newscast program, 24 Oras.

After the near-win of her beauty queen girlfriend Janine Tugonon in the recently concluded Miss Universe pageant,  Jaypee Santos finally hit back on those who put negativity on their relationship saying he is not insecure because God is with him.

Never akong na-insecure. Back up ko si God eh. Paniniwala ko kasi, siya as a good Christian, alam ko na hindi niya gagawin yung mga bagay na ikasisira ng relasyon namin,”

Meanwhile, Janine said Jaypee is the very reason why she is what she is right now.

"We should be thankful din na he's there for me, because he really helped me a lot, simula pagpapapayat, hanggang dulo. He's really a great supporter. There was a time really that I wanted to give up, I really wanted to say, 'Ayoko na.' He was the one who really helped me," the Miss Universe 2012 First Runner-up said.

Vice Ganda, Kris Aquino and AiAi delas Alas Give the The Gift of Laughter to Filipino Families this Christmas

This Christmas day, Unkabogable Box-Office Star Vice Ganda, Queen of All Media Kris Aquino and Box-Office Comedy Queen AiAi delas Alas are all set to give their biggest Christmas comedy treat to Filipino families—“Sisterakas.” Released by Star Cinema and Viva Films and directed by the box-office director Wenn V. Deramas, “Sisterakas” is one of the official movie entries to the annual Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF).

Pano mo ba ie-explain kung gaano ka-hilarious ‘yung isang pelikula na nandun si AiAi na queen of comedy, nandun si Vice na super patawa araw-araw, at si Kris na nagbaliw-baliwan dun sa pelikula?” shared Vice, who will play the role of Bernice, the “lord of the apparels industry” and the owner of the Ponytale company, the strongest business competitor of Roselle (Kris) and the half-sister of the dedicated mother Detty (AiAi).

Masaya ‘yung experience namin habang ginagawa itong ‘Sisterakas.’

Meanwhile, according to Kris, who will play as a villain for the first time, “Sisterakas” is perfect for the whole family. “During the past two festivals kasi PG-13 ‘yung ginawa ko. This is my first GP talaga, kaya happy ang anak ko dahil walang patayan, walang dugo,” shed said. “Ang maganda sa ‘Sisterakas,’ from lolo all the way to apo ay mag-e-enjoy. At the end of the day, llike any movie from Star Cinema, this is really for the Filipino family. Mararamdaman niyo dito kung ano ang pinagdadaanan ng bawat nilalang para mapaligaya ang magulang niya, maalagaan ang mga anak niya, maibangon ang sarili niya.”

Like Kris, AiAi is also proud of “Sisterakas” being a family-oriented film. “Although dedicated mother pa rin ang role ko dito, tungkol sa mag-sisters ang kwento. So first time ko magkakapelikulang tungkol sa magkapatid,” she said. “Sa panahon ngayon, the best thing to share is love. At ngayong Pasko, napakasaya na tumatawa tayo and at the same time puno ng pagmamahal ang nararamdaman natin.”

Direk Wenn, on the other hand, assured that moviegoers who will see “Sisterakas” will laugh out loud from start to finish. “Ngayon ka lang makakakita ng ganitong klaseng pelikula at ng ganitong klaseng tema ngayong Pasko,” said the director. “For the spirit of Christmas, wag muna nating problemahin ang mundo. Humalakhak muna tayo kasi kaarawan ng Diyos. Magandang regalo ‘yung mapatawa mo ang mga mahal mo sa buhay.”

Aside from Vice, Kris and AiAi, “Sisterakas” will also feature Kapamilya child wonder Xyriel Manabat and the sensational teen stars Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla.

Don’t miss the unkabogable Christmas gift of Star Cinema and Viva Films that will bring non-stop laughter to Filipino families nationwide, “Sisterakas,” opens now in cinemas nationwide.
