Award-Winning Stars Angelica, Dingdong, Zanjoe and Angel Topbill Star Cinema’s Modern Family Drama ‘One More Try’

Award-Winning Stars Angelica, Dingdong, Zanjoe and Angel Topbill Star Cinema’s Modern Family Drama ‘One More Try’

Award-winning stars Angel Locsin, Dingdong Dantes, Zanjoe Marudo, and Angelica Panganiban shared that their latest Star Cinema film “One More Try” is their most challenging dramatic movie to date. The said first-ever modern family drama masterpiece of critically-acclaimed director Ruel S. Bayani will hit theaters nationwide beginning Christmas (December 25), along with other entries in the 2012 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF).

I was mostly excited, unang-una dahil ‘One More Try’ is going to be my first MMFF movie as a director,” said Direk Ruel. “It’s an experience for any director na magkuwento ng isang espesyal na materyal na mapapanood ng maraming tao sa panahon ng Pasko. ‘One More Try’ is the best family movie this festival because it’s a modern family drama na magbibigay inspirasyon, mae-enjoy, at kapupulutan ng aral ng mga tao sa panahon ng Kapaskuhan.

Meanwhile, Angel’s plan to take a short break from doing films failed as soon as she heard about the brave plot of “One More Try” that tackles about a loving single mother Grace (Angel) who is willing to sacrifice everything to save her ill son. “Actually si Direk Ruel talaga ‘yung reason kung bakit ako nag-yes sa pelikulang ‘to. Never pa kami nagkatrabaho pero nabibisita ko siya sa set niya dati nung nasa GMA pa kami noon at marami nga akong naririnig na magagandang bagay tungkol sa kaniya,” shared Angel, who also worked for the first time with Angelica, Zanjoe, and Dingdong. “Halos lahat ng pelikula siguro maki-claim na ‘bago po ‘tong kuwento namin,’ pero totoo talaga. Hindi siya ‘yung another typical infidelity movie. Iba siya! Pamilya ang sentro ng kwento.

Like Angel, Angelica was absolutely in awe of the brave and unique story of “One More Try.” “Nakaka-challenge siyang gawin lalong-lalo na dun pa lang sa konsepto ng story. I think first time siyang ita-tackle sa pelikula. Parang wala pakong napanood na pelikula, kahit pa Hollywood, na ganitong klaseng story. Sobrang unique,” she said. “Ngayon lang ako gumawa ng ganito kamature na pelikula na ang role ko ay may asawa at may binubuong pamilya.”

“One More Try” will not ony feature the first team-up of four of the country’s most talented actors and actresses, it will also highlight the first dramatic role of Zanjoe, who considers his latest Star Cinema film as his biggest project to date. “Dito makikita ng tao ‘yung pagiging seryoso ko bilang isang artista at sinubok talaga ako ng pelikulang ito kung hanggang saan ang kaya ko,” said Zanjoe. “Halos lahat ng ginagawa ko puro love story na may halong comedy, light lang at dito sa ‘One More Try,’ kahit konting bakas ng mga ginawa ko dati parang hindi niyo makikita dahil ito ‘yung masasabi kong napaka-serious na character na nagawa ko.”

The impact of “One More Try” was so strong that even Dingdong learned something from the stories of their characters. “I think kung gaano kabilis mag-evolve ‘yung movie as a story ganon din siguro kabilis ang magiging impact sa audience dahil nung umpisa sabi adult drama but syempre as we were shooting nung nakikita namin ‘yung dynamics ng pagkakaron ng isang bata eventually it turned out to be more of a family movie than an adult type of movie na alam naman natin na karamihan ng pinalabas this year ay mga ganong tema,” Dingdong shared. “Natutunan ko sa movie namin na minsan kasi may mga choices ka na gagawin na maaaring hindi tama sa nakararami pero para sayo morally, spiritually, maiisip mo na ‘yun ay para sa ikabubuti ng taong mahal mo at gagawin mo ‘yun no matter what.”

When their child Botchok’s (Miguel Vergara) rare blood condition becomes more severe, ex-lovers Grace (Angel) and Edward (Dingdong) were left with no choice but to have another child and they need to do it the natural way. Edward was hesitant at first but her wife Jacq (Angelica) gives him permission. For Botchok’s sake, even Grace’s dedicated boyfriend Tristan (Zanjoe) agreed on it.

In a situation where a life of an innocent child is at stake, can Grace, Edward, Tristan and Jacqueline sacrifice their personal feelings in order to cure Botchok (Miguel Vergara)? In this kind of pursuit, who will eventually win–Jacqueline who will go for a kill to save her faltering marriage with Edward or Grace, the devoted mother who will do anything to save her son even if it means compromising her relationship with the man who truly loves her?

Aside from the first team-up of Angel, Angelica, Zanjoe and Dingdong, also featured in “One More Try”: are Carmina Villaroel, Agot Isidro, Edward Mendez, and Ms. Gina Pareño.

Ted Failon Ngayon to Probe ‘Kasambahay Bill’ this Saturday

Award-winning broadcast journalist Ted Failon gives TV viewers this Saturday (December 8) a comprehensive report of what Kasambahay Bill is all about in “Failon Ngayon.”

Under the Kasambahay Bill or House Bill No. 6144, househelps are required to submit a medical certificate, a birth certificate, and a police clearance to process their application. Upon compliance, the employer will then make a contract and terms must be thoroughly discussed with the househelp before both parties sign it.

The said bill also protects the domestic workers by not holding them liable for any damages done inside the employer’s house and if ever they request to leave, the employer cannot hold the househelp in any way even if he/she is heavily indebted financially.

Should the President Noynoy Aquino sign the Kasambahay Bill or should lawmakers review it further to ensure that it is mutually beneficial to both the employers and the househelps?

Don’t miss the full report on “Failon Ngayon” this Saturday (Dec 8), 4:45 PM on ABS-CBN with a replay on ANC every Sunday, 2PM. With his undeniable charm, wit, and down-to-earth personality, online heartthrob Kimpoy Feliciano has amassed a solid following in cyberspace with more than 430,000 followers on Twitter, 100,000 on Facebook, 100,000 on Tumblr, and more than 2,000,000 views on Youtube. This phenomenon paved the way for doors of opportunities to open for this online sensation, currently based in New Zealand.

Last Friday, Kimpoy launched his self-titled debut album, produced by Universal Records, to a multitude of supporters who packed the SM Manila Entertainment Center. The album includes the hit Ikaw Lang, which topped the www.mymusicstore.com.ph charts for two weeks and figured prominently in the MYX Daily Top 10 for almost three weeks. The song is also enjoying favorable airplay on radio.

I am humbled and overwhelmed first with the trust and support given to me by Universal Records. I really never thought that I’d be given my own album, so nagpapasalamat talaga ako,” expresses Kimpoy. “Aside from that, I am also equally grateful to all my friends/followers that showed support during my launch.

Aside from Ikaw Lang, the album also includes Kimpoy’s rendiitons of Ngiti, Right Next To Me, I’ll Be Your Hero, Una at Huling Mamahalin, and Alipin, which he dedicates to all his followers. It was very hard for me when my family decided to move to Dunedin. I had to leave everyone behind. When we left for Dunedin, it was one of the saddest days in my life,” says the 19-year-old Kimpoy, who is currently a second year Business Management Student in University of Otago. “Who would have known that because of that sadness, I would connect to more people in the Philippines through social media? Talagang everything happens for a reason and I am blessed that I have friends from everywhere now. Talagang no boundaries.”

The support of these new friends made Kimpoy one of the most influential Filipinos on Twitter, according to social media analytics site Klout.com. He ranked third in the survey, where he is the lone non-TV star.

Kimpoy graced the cover of the September issue of Pinoy Song Magazine, which is his first magazine cover.

GMA-7 Maintains Leadership in NUTAM Ratings from January to November 2012

Broadcast giant GMA Network, Inc. (GMA) is set for a strong finish this 2012 as it continues to lead rival networks in nationwide television ratings, according to partial year data from the industry’s widely recognized ratings supplier Nielsen TV Audience Measurement.

For the period January to November 2012 (November 25 to 30 based on overnight data), GMA recorded an average total day (6 AM to 12 MN) household audience share of 34.6 percent in National Urban Philippines or NUTAM; up 3.1 points from ABS-CBN’s 31.5 percent, and up 19.6 points from TV5′s 15 percent.

GMA also scored impressive total day ratings in the viewer-rich areas of Mega Manila and Urban Luzon, where it led competition by double digits.

In Urban Luzon, which makes up 77 percent of the total urban television households in the country, GMA delivered a solid 38.4 percent total day average; 11 points higher than ABS-CBN’s 27.4 percent, and 23.9 points higher than TV5′s 14.5 percent.

GMA also came ahead of other stations in its bailiwick Mega Manila, which makes up 59.5 percent of all urban television households nationwide, with a commanding total day average of 39.4 percent. GMA was remarkably ahead of ABS-CBN’s 25.8 percent by 13.6 points, and of TV5′s 15.1 percent by 24.3 points.

During the 11-month period, GMA was also ahead of ABS-CBN and TV5 in the morning (6 AM to 12 MN) and afternoon (12 MN to 6 PM) blocks across NUTAM, Urban Luzon, and Mega Manila.

In November, GMA programs dominated the lists of top-rating programs across NUTAM, Urban Luzon, and Mega Manila. Multi-awarded news magazine program Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho emerged as the number one program in Mega Manila scoring a 24.8 percent average household rating.

Other Kapuso shows that occupied the top slots in the lists are 24 Oras, Kapuso Movie Night Pinoy Flicks, Aso ni San Roque, Kap’s Amazing Stories, Coffee Prince, Eat Bulaga, and Pepito Manaloto, among others.

GMA subscribes to Nielsen TV Audience Measurement along with 22 other paying subscribers including another local major television network (TV5), Faulkner Media, CBN Asia, 15 advertising agencies, and 4 regional clients.

Ryza Mae Dizon Life Story this Saturday in 'Magpakailanman'

The GMA weekly drama program “Magpakailanman” hosted by Mel Tiangco will feature the interesting story of Little Ms. Philippines 2012 Grand Winner Ryza Mae Dizon this Saturday, December 8.

Ever since winning the Search for the Little Ms. Philippines Contest in the top-rating noontime show “Eat Bulaga,” Ryza Mae Dizon has become a popular mainstay of the show. She is loved by many viewers because of her natural charm and cute smile. But hidden beneath the girl’s jolly personality is an interesting story that is not as comic as it is dramatic.

When Ryza Mae was born, no midwife was available to aid in the delivery, and so the girl’s father, Victor, had to do the job of assisting his wife Rizza in the ordeal. When the baby came out, the couple feared that the baby was dead because she didn’t cry at all and the umbilical cord was convoluted around her body.

Ryza Mae’s family is poor. Her father works as a delivery man while her mother tends their small sari-sari store. She grew up very well aware of her family’s condition and so even at a young age, she already thought of how she could help her parents make ends meet.

One day, an agent encouraged Ryza to join a fundraiser beauty contest in their barangay. Rizza won’t approve of the idea because she doesn’t have enough money to spare for her daughter’s costume. But Ryza Mae was so interested in joining the competition that she herself went to the barangay hall to register without her parents knowing it. In the end, Ryza won the competition although the cash prize was not enough to pay for their debts.

Ryza Mae auditioned for similar contests in other networks but she failed. Her fate turned around when she joined the Little Ms. Philippines Contest of ‘Eat Bulaga’. At one point in the competition, Ryza Mae thought that it was all over for her - she was eliminated during the Semi-Finals. Fortunately, prior to the Grand Finals, the show decided to call back some of those who were eliminated as wild card contestants. Ryza Mae was one of the lucky ones. Ultimately, she won in the Grand Finals and the rest is history, so to speak.

Find out more about Ryza Mae Dizon‘s life this Saturday on “Magpakailanman,” airs after ‘Kaps Amazing Stories’ on GMA-7.
