GMA Network Goes Digital

GMA Network Goes Digital

GMA Network, Inc. (GMA) embraces transmedia as the country’s leading multi-media company hosted its first digital trade launch on November 28 in Makati City.

Spearheaded by the Network’s marketing subsidiary GMA Marketing and Productions, Inc. (GMPI), the event incorporated several digital elements in presenting new advertising platforms to members of the trade. The trade launch also allowed guests to experience various Kapuso programs “the digital way.”

From the paper-less registration to the augmented reality wall that greeted attendees upon entrance, the Kapuso event showed clear indications that GMA is fully adopting new technology.

We recognize that transmedia is key in today’s media industry. The focus has shifted from simply attracting more viewers to actually engaging them to play a more active role in many aspects of programming,” said GMA Network Chairman and CEO Atty. Felipe L. Gozon on the future of television.

Hence, as we continue to strive in keeping our status of being the country’s nationwide ratings leader and the preferred network of our valued partners in the trade, we are also faced with the challenge of becoming more relevant in today’s fast-changing media landscape,” Gozon added.

During the trade event, several interactive booths were put up to further showcase GMA’s offerings for the first quarter of 2013 including its coverage of the forthcoming election period for which GMA has allotted a significant amount. Dubbed "Eleksyon 2013," the coverage is set to be the biggest, widest and most comprehensive election coverage on TV.

Digital technology has changed the way viewers consume media,” said GMPI President and COO Lizelle G. Maralag.

This 2013, we are all about charting new grounds as we introduce new and innovative ways to deliver the desired results of our advertisers, from the digital to classical media platforms,” she added.

GMA introduced mobile applications that allow users to scan actual items, images or codes to gain access to a variety of content from its popular TV Shows. These applications also serve as venues for advertisers to have their own promotional activities for their products.

However, despite the changes in the way viewers behave, GMA maintains that content still is and will always be the primary driver when it comes to viewership. “Keeping this in mind, GMA Network will continue to provide quality programs that will cater to the changing needs and preferences of viewers,” said Gozon.

GMA’s top management led by Gozon, GMA President and COO Gilberto R. Duavit Jr., GMA EVP and CFO Felipe S. Yalong, and Maralag, along with the Network’s pool of stars and news and public affairs personalities graced the said occasion. (30)

Highlights of FLG's Interview

FLG said that next year’s CAPEX/OPEX will most likely be similar to this year’s, which is at about P970 million.

He said that the biggest project for next year is GMA’s coverage of the 2013 elections.

The Network has allotted more than 100 million pesos for the acquisition of new technology for the coverage.

Meanwhile, FLG said that GMA might not be able to meet the P2.8 billion target that was set this 2012 due to increases in the company's OPEX including the payout of several bonuses. In Q4 2012 alone, employees of GMA will receive two bonuses (November and December) from the Network.

For next year, the target full year income will be much greater given that the following year is an election year. He said that he expects a double-digit growth in earnings in 2012.

Still on the elections, FLG said that TV remains to be the most ubiquitous medium of communication.

He added that GMA will continue to be cost-efficient in that it will not incur unnecessary costs.

Warner Bros. Entertainment and Village Roadshow Partnership Extended Until 2017

Warner Bros. Entertainment and Village Roadshow Partnership Extended Until 2017

Warner Bros. Entertainment and Village Roadshow Pictures Group (VRPG) have extended their long-standing partnership and will continue to co-produce and co-finance films through the end of 2017. Upcoming projects for the two companies are “Gangster Squad,” “The Great Gatsby,” “LEGO: The Movie,” “All You Need is Kill” and “Mad Max: Fury Road.”

In concert with the Warner Bros. deal, VRPG also renewed and upsized its now 15-year film production facility to $1.125 billion through the end of 2017 to finance its future slate of motion pictures. JPMorgan Chase and Rabobank continue as joint syndication agents.

We now have the firepower of the financing locked away, the best management in the business and the renewal of our long-term relationship with Warner Bros. which puts us in fantastic shape. Warner Bros. continues to be the industry leader in production, distribution and marketing,” said Graham Burke, Chairman of Village Roadshow Entertainment Group (VREG).

We have had a long, successful relationship with Village Roadshow, and we are pleased they will continue to be our partner in making great movies,” said Barry Meyer, Chairman and CEO, Warner Bros.

We are pleased to have accomplished our strategic goal of closing the financing hand in hand with the extension of our Warner Bros. deal. We are fortunate to continue our partnership with a great studio and grateful to have a diverse group of investors on board,” said Greg Basser, CEO of VREG.

Celebrating its 15th anniversary, VRPG is one of the industry's leading producers and financiers of studio released motion pictures, amassing a library of 72 films, 68 of which were released in partnership with Warner Bros. - representing the studio's longest continuous relationship with an independent film financing and production company.

Working together, our companies have produced and released many popular and successful films, and we expect that to continue into the future with this agreement,” said Jeff Robinov, President, Warner Bros. Pictures Group.

We look forward to expanding upon the solid 15-year foundation and continuing to grow our slate of tent pole and star-driven films under the Warner banner,” said Bruce Berman, Chairman and CEO of Village Roadshow Pictures. “We're excited to start the New Year with action-packed 'Gangster Squad' releasing in January followed by the highly anticipated summer event film 'The Great Gatsby' in May.”

Warner Bros. and VRPG will continue to collaborate on high caliber, star-driven films, which have resulted in blockbuster hits including the “Sherlock Holmes,” “Ocean's” and “Matrix” franchises and Academy Award animated picture winner “Happy Feet.”

Upcoming releases include “Gangster Squad” under the direction of Ruben Fleischer, starring Ryan Gosling, Josh Brolin, Emma Stone and Sean Penn (Philippine release on January 30, 2013), and “The Great Gatsby” under the direction of Baz Luhrmann, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan and Tobey Maguire (PH release on May 15, 2013).

Films currently in production include “LEGO: The Movie,” an animated feature film adventure starring Chris Pratt, Will Ferrell, Liam Neeson and Morgan Freeman directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller; “All You Need is Kill,” an epic sci-fi thriller starring Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt directed by Doug Liman; and “Mad Max: Fury Road,” an action adventure starring Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy directed by George Miller.

Eric Bana’s Darkest Hour Comes in “Deadfall”

Eric Bana’s Darkest Hour Comes in “Deadfall”

Eric Bana was first introduced to American audiences in the title role of Mark “Chopper” Read in the feature film Chopper, which premiered at the 2001 Sundance Film Festival and was then released in the U.S. to critical notice after its Australian success. Bana earned awards from the Film Critics Circle of Australia and the Australian Film Institute for his portrayal of Chopper.

Bana was seen co-starring in Ridley Scott’s Black Hawk Down as Delta Sergeant First Class Norm “Hoot” Gibson, one of a group of elite U.S. soldiers, opposite Josh Hartnett, Ewan McGregor and Tom Sizemore.

Shortly thereafter, Bana starred as the title role of Bruce Banner in Hulk for director Ang Lee and Universal Pictures, based on the Marvel Comics character. He was also featured as Hector the Prince of Troy in Warner Bros.’ Troy. The following year, he starred in Steven Spielberg’s critically acclaimed Munich, about the aftermath of the 1972 Munich Olympics.

In his new film  "Deadfall" marks one of Eric Bana's darkest roles in recent memory.

In the film, he plays Addison, a heist man who just robbed a casino with his sister (played by Olivia Wilde) near the Canadian border. But when their car is totalled in a blizzard, the two are forced to split up, leading Addison on a murderous rampage as he tries to make the border.

The role required an actor that could paint in shades of grey, who could bring a subtle approach to a mercurial, brutal character. “We were aware that we needed a brilliant actor,” says director Ruzowitzky, “to show these many layers that are in that character, that it’s not a one layer thing, that it’s all on one tone, but all these different sides we see of him.”

Fortunately, Eric Bana read the script and immediately took to the challenge: “Initially my agent thought I was going to be interested in playing Jay more than Addison, but it was Addison that drew me in,” explains Bana. “This is a very dangerous character and I was immediately drawn to the complexities of playing him.

I don't think it was the dark and twisted part of the character that attracted me, I just think it was a really well written script with really well detailed characters. I don't think I had that many questions for [screenwriter] Zack Dean and [director] Stefan Ruzowitzky after I read the script. Sometimes you read a script and you have a million questions and notes, and I just felt it was so well written that I didn't have any. I think that's the thing that attracted me more so than the fact that it's dark. I know that's always fun, but essentially it was just how good the dialogue was and the structure.”

He’s a very complicated, screwed-up guy,” Bana continues. “Someone who, on the surface, completely has a handle on himself and his sister. As the story progresses, and as our movie heads towards the final act, we discover that he's someone who's not really in as complete control as he would like to believe.”

Everything about the film felt cool,” enthuses Bana. “The script was one of the coolest things I’d read in a long, long time – if not the coolest thing I’d ever read. The character was a wonderfully unique opportunity for any actor, so I was very aggressive about clinging on to that opportunity and just doing everything I could to make sure that the film got made.

‘Deadfall,’ showing nationwide on December is released and distributed by Crystalsky Multimedia.

Michael V. Contemplates on Buying a Vintage Car as a Christmas Gift for Himself

For avid followers of the comedy sitcom “Pepito Manaloto,” here is an insider scoop on what will happen on the show this Sunday, December 2.

Pepito’s household is frequented by a group of carolers who disguise themselves as philantropers caroling for a cause. But as what they will soon discover, the group is a hoax.

Meanwhile, Pepito has a wish this Christmas: he wants to buy himself a vintage car as a gift. Unfortunately, his wife Elsa is not sold on the idea. She reasons that there is no need for such car and that there is no more space left in their garage. Consequently, Pepito gets disappointed with Elsa. In the end, Elsa yields to Pepito’s wish but Pepito later learns that the car brings with it some “bad luck.” What will he do with it now?

Finally, Pepito and Elsa’s daughter Clarissa returns home from school sick and very weak. Expectedly, her parents are worried that her illness might be more than just an ordinary fever. What could it be?

Find out the answers this Sunday on Pepito Manaloto starring Michael V., Manilyn Reynes, Jake Vargas, Angel Satsumi, among others. It airs after 24 Oras Weekend on GMA-7.

Richard Gomez, Albert Martinez and Bong Revilla Jr. Topbill Iglesia Ni Cristo Movie "Ang Sugo (The Last Messenger)"

Richard Gomez was chosen to portray the role of  Iglesia Ni Cristo's first Executive Minister Felix Manalo in the upcoming historic movie "Ang Sugo (The Last Messenger)".

The movie which will feature the three generations of INC leadership beginning from the time it was founded in 1914, will also stars Albert Martinez (the late Eraño Manalo who took leadership of the INC in the 1950s after Felix Manalo) and Sen. Ramon "Bong" Revilla, Jr. (Eduardo Manalo, the current Executive Minister of INC).

Completing the cast are Snooky Serna and Congresswoman Lani Mercado

"It’s really a privilege to be chosen as Ka Felix Manalo. Happy ako at excited na gampanan yung role. This is historical. Pinapakita dito kung paano nagsimula ang Iglesia ni Cristo. Ipapakita dito 'yung generations na dumaan pagkatapos ni Felix Manalo," Goma said during the presscon held at he Quezon City Sports Club on Tuesday, November 27.

Senator Bong, meanwhile, hopes he could give justice on the role. "Hindi na Bong Revilla the action star ang makikita niyo. For the first time, kumbaga isang ka-Eduardo ang makikita nila sa 'Sugo.' Pag-aaralan natin 'yung galaw niya, pananalita niya, mannerisms niya. Malaking hamon ito."

While Albert cannot contained his happiness being chosen to play the most important role he could ever portray in his showbiz career.

"Kaya kailangan talaga in detail, pag-aaralan ko, the person, the man, the dream, the passion, lahat ng iyon. Kailangan ko rin malaman how he addressed his followers, at kailangan ko rin ma-imbibe kung ano ang nararamdaman niya when he does that. It doesn't happen everyday. 'Yung happiness ko as an actor, hindi ko ma-explain. It's something na hindi ko ma-imagine, but I'm really, really honored. I'm finally in the stage of my career na nakagawa ako ng ganitong klaseng pelikula."

Directed by Tikoy Aguiluz and written by Arlyn dela Cruz, "Ang Sugo (The Last Messenger)" will hit theaters in July 2014.

‘Ina Kapatid Anak’ Wins Against ‘Pahiram ng Sandali’ Pilot Episode

ABS-CBN’s top caliber family drama series, “Ina Kapatid Anak” topbilled by Kim Chiu, Xian Lim, Enchong Dee and Maja Salvador trounced its newest rival program in GMA-7 by almost 16 points.

Based on the data from Kantar Media on Monday (November 26), “Ina Kapatid Anak” garnered 32.9% national TV ratings, while the pilot episode of its latest competition “Pahiram ng Sandali” only got 17.5%. The Kapamilya series also ruled its timeslot last Friday (November 23) with 31.9% national TV ratings, or almost 14 points higher than the final episode of “Coffee Prince: Pinoy Version” which only got 18.2%.

Meanwhile, the plot of “Ina Kapatid Anak” continues to thicken now that Julio (Ariel Rivera) already found Teresa (Cherry Pie Picache). Will this be the start of more heated confrontations between their families? Will Teresa be forced to reveal Celyn’s (Kim) real identity or will she keep on hiding it?

Adventure Beckons in “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey”

Adventure Beckons in “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey”

Embark on an epic adventure as Peter Jackson, Academy Award®-winning director of The Lord of the Rings trilogy unveils The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, the first of a series of three films adapting the enduringly popular masterpiece The Hobbit, by J.R.R. Tolkien.

Set 60 years before The Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey follows the titular Hobbit, Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman), as he is recruited by the Wizard Gandalf (Ian McKellen) and thirteen Dwarves, led by the legendary Dwarf warrior Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage). With little more than a map they can’t completely read and Thorin’s consuming drive to reclaim his homeland and legacy, Bilbo is swept up in an epic journey through the treacherous and wondrous Wild on a quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf city of Erebor, which was long ago raided and conquered by the dragon Smaug.

Since setting off on his odyssey to make The Lord of the Rings films, The Hobbit has never been far from Jackson’s mind. When the skies cleared for Jackson and his collaborators to begin the adaptation process, they initially decided to divide the story up into two films. Only in the thick of production, when an early cut of the first film had been assembled, did the true scope of the project reveal itself, and “two became three.”

Jackson says he drew on both Tolkien’s intricate and layered 1937 novel and an additional treasure trove of material the revered English writer, professor and philologist developed in the decades after The Hobbit was first published. “At the end of The Lord of the Rings, Tolkien included 125 pages of appendices which provide more backstory to the history of Middle-earth. This included describing some of the politics and events that occur during the years pertaining to The Hobbit,” he explains. “This new material was more serious, darker in tone, and more in line with The Lord of the Rings.”

So, Jackson and his collaborators on the screenplay - Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, his fellow Oscar-winning co-writers on The Lord of the Rings films, along with Guillermo del Toro - set about piecing the material together. “With these films, we wanted to take the charm and humor of The Hobbit and blend it with some of the back story and tone of the appendices,” Jackson notes. “I didn’t want these to feel like children’s films any more than The Lord of the Rings. We wanted to make the very best films we could, films we’d like to see.

Working alongside Jackson throughout production were Boyens and Walsh, who adds that they found touchstones to Tolkien’s later imaginings within The Hobbit itself. “The Hobbit is much more playful than The Lord of the Rings,” Walsh notes. “We always saw it as a slightly more golden-lighted fairy tale, and it was written as that. But, by the time we get to the end, I think Tolkien pulls himself into the place where he would begin that epic journey of writing The Lord of the Rings. The nature of honor and leadership and power - those big themes that are quite prevalent in The Lord of the Rings - were sleeping and being awakened towards the end of The Hobbit.

And then the long and ever-evolving journey to adapt the piece began. “It was quite easy, surprisingly easy, to fall back into this world,” comments Boyens, whom Jackson describes as “the world’s biggest Tolkien geek.” “It felt right, because we do dearly love these characters. I think it was fate that we made The Lord of the Rings first. I think The Hobbit films are better for it. This would be a different type of film without having gone through the experiences we did with the incredible cast we had on The Lord of the Rings.”

For Jackson, the process of dreaming and doing never ends. Once he and his team have wrapped this film, they will begin on the central film in the trilogy, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, and then on to the finale, The Hobbit: There and Back Again. But, the filmmaker says, even then, it’s never over, “because the day that we finish the movie, usually within a day or two of it premiering, suddenly the movie exists in a whole different form. People still write us who have seen The Lord of the Rings, kids who have just seen it for the first time. And that’s part of the joy of making films. You’re realizing that you’ve created something that is entertaining people and will hopefully entertain people for years to come after we’re all gone. It doesn’t end with the completion of the film, not really. The real satisfaction comes when the movie begins screening in cinemas - it leaves your hands and passes into the hands of those it was made for – the audience.”

A production of New Line Cinema and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures (MGM), “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” will be released in the Philippines by Warner Bros. Pictures on December 13, 2012.
The second film, “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug,” will be released on December 13, 2013, to be followed by “The Hobbit: There and Back Again” on July 18, 2014.

The Quezon City prosecutors office has just dismissed the libel case filed by Amalia Fuentes against Annabelle Rama and Bianca Gonzalez

"All considered, undersigned [Amalia Fuentes] finds no good and sufficient reason to charge respondents either for the article published in the newspaper or for the tweets made by Annabelle. As regards the questioned article in the newspaper, a reading of the same reveals that it was a fair and true report of Bianca's interview of Annabelle.

"On the part of Annabelle, she was just recounting past event/s in her and husband's Eddie's life during the interview. If ever, she revealed events in their life that involved Amalia, that was but part of the narration." according to the resolution signed and released by QC Second Assistant City Prosecutor John Patrick Corpuz.

A Thousand Years - Twilight: Breaking Dawn Theme Song (Music Video and Lyrics)

Christina Perri - A Thousand Years (Breaking Dawn OST)

Heartbeats fast
Colors and promises
How to be brave
How can I love when I'm afraid to fall
But watching you stand alone
All of my doubt suddenly goes away somehow
One step closer

I have died everyday waiting for you
Darling don't be afraid I have loved you
For a thousand years
I love you for a thousand more

Time stands still
Beauty in all she is
I will be brave
I will not let anything take away
What's standing in front of me
Every breath
Every hour has come to this
One step closer
[ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsfreak.com/c/christina+perri/a+thousand+years_20986324.html ]
I have died everyday waiting for you
Darling don't be afraid I have loved you
For a thousand years
I love you for a thousand more

And all along I believed I would find you

Time has brought your heart to me
I have loved you for a thousand years
I love you for a thousand more

One step closer
One step closer

I have died everyday waiting for you
Darling don't be afraid I have loved you
For a thousand years
I love you for a thousand more

And all along I believed I would find you
Time has brought your heart to me
I have loved you for a thousand years
I love you for a thousand more
