GMA-7, ABS-CBN and TV5 to Broadcast Simultaneously the ‘Dolphy: Alay Tawa’ TV Special

GMA-7, ABS-CBN and TV5 to Broadcast Simultaneously the ‘Dolphy: Alay Tawa’ TV Special

In a rare occasion, broadcasting giants GMA Network, ABS-CBN and TV5 will take part in the production and simultaneous airing of a two-and-a-half-hour TV special to pay homage to the late Philippine King of Comedy, Dolphy.

The TV special dubbed “Dolphy: Alay Tawa,” was an idea of one of Dolphy’s sons, director Eric Quizon, who had thought of coming up with a show that will not only have an entertainment value but also be a fund-raiser of sorts to continue the legacy of his late father who had helped his fellow through various foundations.

“Dolphy: Alay Tawa” will be produced by the Dolphy Aid Para sa Pinoy Foundation, Inc. in cooperation with several partners including the three major TV networks. Each of the three networks was assigned to produce three production numbers, and each number will be participated in not only by the stars of the producing network but also by stars from other networks. This means that each network will be fairly represented in every production number – from opening down to the closing.

The opening number for example will be composed by the biggest stars from each network: Ogie Alcasid and Janno Gibbs (GMA-7), Gary Valenciano and Martin Nievera (ABS-CBN) and Sharon Cuneta (TV5). According to Eric, the performers have agreed to waive off their talent fees for the event. He also said that the networks will provide for their respective production numbers.

Furthermore, all three networks will simultaneously broadcast the show tentatively on September 30. To facilitate the simultaneous airing, one neutral control room will be set-up in a certain location and the signals will be beamed to the control rooms of the three networks. This will also ensure that the commercial gaps of the three will be simultaneous (The networks won’t necessarily be carrying the same set of commercials).

"Ikinararangal natin na tayo ay kaisa sa hangaring ito at masarap sa pakiramdam kasi si Tito Dolphy ay talaga namang malaki ang contribution sa ating industriya, which we are a part of. Maganda ang purpose nitong 'Alay Tawa.' Hindi lang ito magbibigay ng saya sa mga tao, marami ring matutulungan nito. It's a very worthwhile endeavor and we are very much honored to be a part of it," said Lilybeth G. Rasonable, OIC for GMA’s Entertainment TV Group.

Among the stars from all the three networks who will participate are Vilma Santos, Nora Aunor, Vic Sotto, Joey De Leon, Sharon Cuneta, Lorna Tolentino, Christopher de Leon, Maricel Soriano, Roderick Paulate, Martin Nievera, Gary Valenciano, Ai-Ai delas Alas, Ogie Alcasid, Edu Manzano, Janno Gibbs, Pauline Luna, Judy Ann Santos, Ryan Agoncillo, Luis Manzano, Vhong Navarro, Shaina Magdayao, Paolo Bediones, Derek Ramsey, Mark Herras, John Estrada, Jolina Magdangal, Ruffa Gutierrez, Richard and Raymond Gutierrez, Ruby Rodriguez, Keempee de Leon, Wendel Ramos, Edgar Allan, Martin Escudero, Alex Gonzaga, Danita Paner, Jhong Hilario, Arci Munoz, Ritz Azul, Iya Villania, Denis Laurel, Melai Cantiveros, Eula Caballero, Angeline Quinto, JC de Vera, Rachelle Ann Go, Arci Munoz and the Goin' Bulilit Kids. The program will also feature the special participation of Eddie Garcia, Gloria Romero, Rosa Rosal, Eddie Gutierrez, Nova Villa, German Moreno, Daisy Romualdez and Susan Roces.

Directed by Al Quinn with Bibeth Orteza as scriptwriter, “Dolphy: Alay Tawa” will be held at the SM Mall of Asia Arena on September 19, 7:00pm and will be aired on September 30 at 10:30pm.

All the proceeds of “Dolphy Alay Tawa” will go to Eyebank Foundation Philippines, Hope in a Bottle, Philippine Red Cross, and Dolphy Aid Para sa Pinoy Foundation.

A ticket may be acquired via a minimum donation of P150 (General Admission), P250 (Upper Box) and P450 (Lower Box). Tickets are available at SM Tickets and SM Cinema ticketing booths.

"The Mistress" Grosses P25-Million on its First Day of Showing

"The Mistress" Grosses P25-Million on its First Day of Showing

Everyone expected it to become one of Philippine cinema's biggest hit this year. But not as hit as grossing P25-M on its first day.

Yes, Star Cinema's latest offering "The Mistress" which also marks the 10th year anniversary of John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo as a loveteam is currently breaking box-office records.

According to Star Cinema's Advertising and Promotions Manager Mico del Rosario, "The Mistress" raked a whopping P25-M on its first day beating the box-office record set by the other Star Cinema produced movie last year and currently the highest grossing film of all time - "The Unkabogable Praybeyt Benjamin" starring Vice Ganda which grossed P23.9-M on its opening day.

The big question now is, can "The Mistress" surpass the P300-M earnings of "The Unkabogable Praybeyt Benjamin"?

The X Factor Philippines Top 6 Reveal Their Life's Battles

The X Factor Philippines Top 6 Reveal Their Life Battles

For the final six, being the next multimedia superstar and winning “The X Factor Philippines” are not just a battle of charisma, stage presence, and unique vocal prowess but also a personal battle to overcome their lifelong struggles that might have driven them off course from realizing their dreams of making it in the music industry.

Jeric Medina
from Paranaque has been battling weight problems since he was a kid. He may be living a privileged life but he grew up insecure about his physique. This drove him to commit to losing weight through exercise and diet and eventually lost more than 70 lbs. With his new figure, he was more confident to pursue his longtime dream of becoming a music artist.

His teammate Gabriel Maturan of Dapitan City is fighting a different battle in his life as he has long struggled to have a complete family. Growing up, Gabriel has had three men he considered fathers, one of whom was a Danish national. That was why he lived and became a working student in Denmark. When his mom and his second stepfather parted ways, they returned to the country and lived in Zamboanga Del Norte, where he found his third dad. Will he make his fathers proud by becoming the grand winner?

Kedebon Colim
of Cebu faces a tough battle in the competition. Aside from struggling with poverty, Kedebon is also in a constant battle to prove himself to the viewing public that he deserves to be in the final six. Despite the insults thrown at him, Kedebon respects people’s opinions and just does his best every week. This is no surprise to his family and friends because Kedebon has always been strong and hardworking. In fact, he even worked as an internet café attendant and construction worker at the same time just to help in his family’s finances.

Just like Kedebon, Allen Sta. Maria is also fighting poverty. The youngest finalist from Nueva Ecija would join various amateur singing contests and get gigs as a singer to support her studies and buy stuff for herself like clothes and shoes. Allen never became champion in the many singing contests she joined. Will her fate change in “The X Factor Philippines?”

KZ Tandingan
of Digos City is determined to win the competition. KZ has always loved singing so much that she would belt out songs just about everywhere. Unfortunately, she encountered throat problems that affected her singing voice. She can no longer belt out high notes like before and thus suffered from low self-esteem. But with the help of her family, she was able to find her love for music once more and searched for a unique singing style with her band. Now that she is in the “X Factor,” KZ is ready to give it all to prove that the country’s music industry is not just for belters and smooth-skinned, pretty artists.

Carrying the banner of the Groups category is all-male group Daddy’s Home composed of Allan Silonga, Herbert Silonga, Eric Dacanay, and Jerome Icatar. All professionals and aged above 31, Daddy’s Home is in a fight against time as their shot at making it in the industry tends to be shorter than the rest of the younger contenders. Aside from the competition, they also face conflicting priorities since they have families to provide for. Making it this far, Daddy’s Home threats their families as inspiration to win the competition and finally achieve their goal of penetrating the mainstream scene.

Martin Nievera mentors Jeric, Gabriel, and Kedebon; Charice mentors KZ Tandingan and Allen Sta. Maria; and Gary Valenciano mentors Daddy’s Home. Fourth judge-mentor Pilita Corrales’ mentees were unfortunately eliminated from the competition and didn’t make it to the final six. Who among them will become the country’s next big multimedia superstar? Whose ‘x factor’ will win over viewers and judge-mentors hearts?

Be sure to save your favorites from elimination. Vote after their performances by every Saturday by texting XFJERIC/GAB/KED/ALLEN/KZ/DAD and send it to 2331 for Globe and Sun subscribers and 231 for Smart and Talk ‘n Text subscribers.

Janice de Belen Describes Herself as "Crazy. Happy Crazy!"

Janice de Belen Describes Herself as "Crazy. Happy Crazy!"

More than three decades into her showbiz career, actress-host Janice de Belen is everywhere these days, and she couldn't be happier.

"I am everywhere, it's crazy. Really crazy. Crazy schedule. Crazy ako, but it's fun, it's happy crazy," Janice told ABS-CBN News on the sidelines of the story conference of the latest installment of Regal Film's annual MMFF horror movie entry, "Shake, Rattle & Roll," on September 6.

Popularly known for her portrayal of "Flordeluna" as a child actress in the 1980s, Janice successfully conquered again the television via the ABS-CBN drama series "Budoy" in 2011.

Since then, she has appeared in a number of TV shows and films, including the horror film "The Healing" and the independent film "Mga Mumunting Lihim."

On television, she currently hosts a celebrity cooking show and the showbiz-oriented talk show "Showbiz Inside Report." She is also currently filming for the upcoming drama series "Ina, Kapatid, Anak."

Now, in time for the upcoming 38th Metro Manila Film Festival this December, Janice will make her seventh appearance in the "Shake, Rattle & Roll" film series via its 14th installment.

"It's really exciting to do it with Herbert (Bautista) and Arlene (Muhlach), kasi lahat kami, kami nag-start nung first 'Shake, Rattle & Roll,' although hindi kami pare-parehas na episodes, pero this time magkakasama kami," she said.

At 43, Janice said she has only grown to enjoy her craft more than she did when she was still starting in the business.

"Dati, nung bata ako, sinasabi ko nage-enjoy ako. Now that I'm older and I do more things - iba 'yung output ko nung bata ako, iba rin 'yung output ng trabaho ko now - now that I'm older, I must say, I really enjoy this job," Janiace said.

"Importante kasi talaga na pag nagsimula ka mag-artista, magtanim ka ng maganda, para kahit na 10 years, 50 years, maganda parin, pag narinig 'yung pangalan mo, maganda 'yung maiisip nila," she added.

Jennifer Aniston and Jason Sudeikis Star in the Comedy Film “We're The Millers”

Jennifer Aniston and Jason Sudeikis Star in the Comedy Film “We're The Millers”

Principal photography is underway on New Line Cinema’s action comedy “We’re The Millers,” starring Jennifer Aniston (“Horrible Bosses”) and Jason Sudeikis (“The Campaign”). The film is directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber (“Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story”).

In the film, David Burke (Sudeikis) is a small-time pot dealer whose clientele includes chefs and soccer moms, but no kids - after all, he has his scruples. So what could go wrong? Plenty. Preferring to keep a low profile for obvious reasons, he learns the hard way that no good deed goes unpunished when he tries to help out some local teens and winds up getting jumped by a trio of gutter punks. Stealing his stash and his cash, they leave him in major debt to his supplier, Brad (Ed Helms).

In order to wipe the slate clean - and maintain a clean bill of health - David must now become a big-time drug smuggler by bringing Brad’s latest shipment in from Mexico. Twisting the arms of his neighbors, cynical stripper Rose (Aniston) and wannabe customer Kenny (Will Poulter), and the tatted-and-pierced streetwise teen Casey (Emma Roberts), he devises a foolproof plan. One fake wife, two pretend kids and a huge, shiny RV later, the “Millers” are headed south of the border for a Fourth of July weekend that is sure to end with a bang.

Thurber directs “We’re The Millers” from a screenplay by Steve Faber & Bob Fisher (“Wedding Crashers”) and Sean Anders & John Morris (“Hot Tub Time Machine”). The film also stars Emma Roberts (“The Art of Getting By”), Nick Offerman (“21 Jump Street”), Kathryn Hahn (“The Dictator”), Will Poulter (“The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader”) and Ed Helms (the “Hangover” films).

Vincent Newman, Tucker Tooley, Happy Walters and Chris Bender are the producers, with David Heyman, J.C. Spink and Marcus Viscidi serving as executive producers.

Thurber’s behind-the-scenes creative team includes director of photography Barry Peterson (“21 Jump Street”); production designer Clayton Hartley (“The Other Guys”); editor Mike Sale (“The Hangover Part II”); and costume designer Shay Cunliffe (“The Bourne Legacy”).

Shot on location in North Carolina and New Mexico, New Line Cinema’s “We’re The Millers” will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

"Pepito Manaloto: Ang Tunay Na Kuwento" Pilots this Sunday

"Pepito Manaloto: Ang Tunay Na Kuwento" Pilots this Sunday

The sequel of the reality-sitcom "Pepito Manaloto" will air its pilot episode on Sunday night, September 16 on GMA-7.

"Pepito Manaloto: Ang Tunay na Kuwento" picks up from that point in the first season's story wherein the lead character Pepito (portrayed by Michael V) wins the jackpot in a lottery. After his luck changed his and his family's life from rags to riches, a television network executive approaches Pepito and comes up with the idea of retelling their story in a TV series. However, Pepito won't like the treatment of the TV show. He thinks that much of the story has been played up or exaggerated. He wanted a more realistic portrayal of his family's story. The TV executive will draw up an alternative proposal: the TV show will be redone but this time, it will be a reality show. The cameras will be documenting Pepito and his family's every day life.

The "reality show" treatment of the new season of Pepito Manaloto is what sets it apart from the previous one, which was basically more of a situation comedy (SitCom). As Michael V himself describes it, Pepito Manaloto: Ang Tunay na Kuwento is a "real-life documentary of a fictional family."

The show also stars Manilyn Reynes as Elsa Manaloto, Angel Satsumi as Clarissa Manaloto and Jake Vargas as Chito Manaloto.
Playing equally important roles are John Feir as Patrick, Ronnie Henares as Tommy, Mosang as Baby, Janna Dominguez as Maria, and Arthur Solinap as Robert. Completing the cast are the new characters who will make the lives of the Manaloto family more interesting - Jessa Zaragoza as Deedee and Nova Villa as Mimi.

Alexander Skarsgard and Andrea Riseborough Star in the New Thriller Movie “Hidden”

Principal photography is underway in Vancouver on Warner Bros. Pictures’ “Hidden,” starring Alexander Skarsgård (TV’s “True Blood”) and Andrea Riseborough (“Shadow Dancer”).

Ray (Skarsgård), Claire (Riseborough) and their seven-year-old daughter, Zoe, are an average American family in Kingsville, North Carolina - except they have existed in a bomb shelter since escaping a day of devastation that changed everything.

For 301 days, they have transformed their cement prison into a home, holding on to memories of the past and hope for a normal life someday. And for 301 days, the family has eluded what looms above the surface - the heavy breathing and booming footsteps that punctuate the night, threatening their fragile existence.

All the while, the family has managed to stay hidden. Until now. Now their safe haven has been breached…and something is coming for them.

Brothers Matt and Ross Duffer, who wrote the original script, make their feature film directorial debut on “Hidden.” The film also stars Emily Alyn Lind (“J. Edgar”) as daughter Zoe.

Roy Lee (“The Departed”), Oscar® nominee Mason Novick (“Juno”) and Lawrence Grey (“Hope Springs”) are producing. The executive producers are John Middleton, Sebastian Aloi, Jim Rowe and Katterli Frauenfelder. Michelle Knudsen is serving as co-producer.

The behind-the-scenes team includes director of photography Tom Townend (“Attack the Block”), Academy Award®-nominated production designer Jim Bissell (“Good Night, and Good Luck”), editor Jeffrey Werner (“The Kids Are All Right”), and Oscar®-winning costume designer Colleen Atwood (“Alice in Wonderland,” “Chicago,” “Memoirs of a Geisha”). The music is by Jeff Grace (“Meek’s Cutoff”).

Ian “Duday” Galliguez' Online Talk Show 'On The Flip Side' Premieres on September 28

We all know Ian “Duday” Galliguez as the whimsical maid on the defunct “Labs ko si Babe” and then as several other funny characters from different teleseryes and movies. What most people don’t know is that Ian is a web designer, was a training manager, is an entrepreneur and now, a talk show host. Ian shows people her “flip” side and exudes wit, hilarity and charm.

On The Flip Side is produced by Front Media Entertainment, a multi-media creative company led by Ms. Shiela Ambray. On The Flip Side is a collaboration between Ian, BusinessOnline.PH (Online and technology partner/producer) and Front Media Entertainment. FME excitedly jumped on the chance of producing the show and was excited about the new medium and technology. “Everyone is online now. Gone are the days when you had to be stationary to be connected; now you can be anywhere and still be connected!” Christian Bugia, FME‘s Operations Manager says. “They can watch the show at any time using their laptops, computers, tablets or smart phones. It’s also a great medium for sponsors and advertisers! Their ads get shown each and every time the video is watched.” Christian adds.

With its professional editing and digital post production, one may be inclined to think that this isn’t an online show but a television show. “We wanted to present a well made show to the viewers – from the set to the digital post production – because why not? Just because it’s an online show doesn’t mean that it shouldn’t exude the same kind of quality TV gives.” our very own Ian Galliguez says. This is her first talk show and she was last seen playing a Drukpah in the Teleserye hit, “Princess and I”.

On The Flip Side’s first guest is the lead actress for the TV show “Be Careful with my Heart”, Ms. Jodi Sta. Maria. Upcoming guests include singer Jaco Benin and beauty queen/actress/model/painter/make-up artist (whew!) Nina Ricci Alagao. Visit the show’s website for more details.

On The Flip side airs on September 28 with a special advanced screening on the 26th for those who register and subscribe on their website. Visit and like them on Facebook and follow them on Twitter to get the latest news and updates about the show and their guests.

Nora Aunor's Pre-45th Year Showbiz Anniversary Celebration on TV5 this Weekend

Nora Aunor's Pre-45th Year Showbiz Anniversary Celebration on TV5 this Weekend

The Superstar, Ms. Nora Aunor, will once again grace TV screens everywhere. Synonymous to brilliance and humility, her star quality continues to shine throughout her 45 bright years in Philippine show business. This year marks yet another milestone in her glorious career, with mother network TV5 starting a fitting tribute to her talent with the Nora Aunor Weekend Special this coming September 15 and 16.

Fresh from reaping praise for the critically-acclaimed film Thy Womb by Cannes-winning director Brillante Mendoza, Ms. Aunor returns to the small screen in two challenging characters that add to the long list of remarkable portrayals. Fans can catch Ate Guy on Untold Stories as Sister Thelma Layog and on Third Eye as Ditas Gregorio.

On Untold Stories, Ate Guy plays the role of a nun who left the convent for the man she loves. This Saturday’s episode reunites the Superstar with her Naglalayag leading man Yul Servo and Sidhi co-star Angie Ferro. The episode’s central love story endures the many challenges, like the sizeable age gap between how Yul’s character Danny and Ate Guy’s Thelma.

Ate Guy will portray a totally different role in the supernatural mystery drama Third Eye on Sunday night. She plays the role of Ditas Gregorio, a school janitress who was forced to relive a dark memory involving demonic possession. The episode helmed by Jon Red (also Aunor’s director in Sa Ngalan ng Ina) marks Ate Guy’s reunion with Grand Slam actress Lorna Tolentino some 30 years after their first movie (Mga Uod at Rosas). “Sa taping, kapag eksena na niya [Ate Guy], pinapanood at napapamangha na lang ako sa kanya. I told myself, ‘I wanna act with her in a full-length movie. Kahit saan niyo pa kami dalhin,’ said LT, a multi-awarded actress herself, of her encounter with Ate Guy.

Meanwhile, TV5’s own Eula Caballero is happy to reunite with the Superstar, whom she calls her “workshop master.” Eula shared, “Napayakap na lang ako kay Ina [Nora Aunor] noong makita ko siya uli sa taping. I owe a lot to her because she was generous enough to teach me everything when we were taping for Sa Ngalan (Ng Ina),” referring to the TV5’s mini-serye where she played Nora’s daughter.

Superstar Nora Aunor, Direk Brillante Mendoza, and the rest of Thy Womb cast returned to Manila last Tuesday after their successful showing at the 69th Venice International Festival. The film received a five-minute standing ovation after its well-attended screening. The film was also a critics’ favorite and saw Ate Guy winning the Bisato d'Oro Award from the Premio Della Critica Indipendiente, a jury of independent film critics in Italy. Direk Brillante bagged the La Navicella Venezia Cinema Award from Rivista del Cinematografo. A restored, high-definition version of the 1982 Nora Aunor-starrer Himala also premiered at the said film festival. Thy Womb will also hold a special screening at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).

As her influence transcends from film to TV, another of the Superstar’s popular roles has been immortalized on stage. Bona, the original Lino Brocka film in which Ate Guy played the title role, is being showcased by the Philippine Education Theater Association’s (PETA). In an earlier interview, comedienne-actress Eugene Domingo, a self-confessed Noranian who portrays the modern-day Bona, admitted she wanted to please Ate Guy in her portrayal. Eugene added how the Superstar herself gave her blessing to play her character. “Ang gusto ko mangyari, maaliw si Ate Guy sa Bona naming ito. Alam mo, ilang taon, ilang dekada niya tayong inaliw sa mahusay niyang pagganap, panahon na na siya naman ang ating aliwin.”

Don’t miss the Superstar’s back-to-back drama special this Saturday on Untold Stories (after Artista Academy) and Sunday on Third Eye (after Who Wants to Be a Millionaire) only on TV5.

Adam Levine of Maroon 5 is Bench Newest Endorser; Get a Chance to Meet and Greet Adam Levine in Person

If there's a network war between ABS-CBN and GMA-7, there's also an ongoing silent rift between Penshoppe and Bench in terms of their roster of international endorsers (pakabugan ng endorsers ang labanan!).

If Penshoppe has its "Penshoppe All Stars", you also cannot deny the fact that Bench has its strong list of international endorsers. And new to its list is "The Voice" mentor/judge and Maroon 5's frontman Adam Levine.

"We officially welcome #GlobalBenchsetter @adamlevine to the Bench Family. So thrilled to have you as our newest endorser!" revealed by Bench on its official Facebook account.

And in line with this, Bench is set to stage an event called "Benchsetter Fun Meet featuring Adam Levine!" where fans can get a chance to win an entry pass to meet and greet Adam Levine in the flesh on September 17, at the SMX Convention Center.

Paolo Contis Ends Four-Year Relationship with Lian Paz

Paolo Contis Ends Four-Year Relationship with Lian Paz

Kapuso comedian-host Paolo Contis reportedly put an end to his 4-year relationship with former EB Babe dancer Lian Paz - the mother of his 2 daughters Xonia Aitana and Xalene Abriana.

In an interview during her thanksgiving dinner at Romulo’s Café in QC, Lian confirmed that his now estranged husband decided to end their relationship on the night of September 11.

Four years na may pinagdaanan ang relasyon namin ni Paolo. At kahapon, September 11, ay tinuldukan na according to Pao. I respect his decision. In love pa rin ako sa kanya. Syempre, asawa ko ‘yun at may dalawang anak kami.

Despite her admission, Lian still denied that there's another personality involved in Paolo's decision. “There’s no third party involved. Differences siguro ang isa sa dahilan ng pagpa-part ways namin. We’re both unhappy na siguro sa pagsasama namin, hindi namin alam at hindi namin namamalayan. Baka isa ‘yun sa pinagdadaanan. At baka may pagkukulang na hindi ko alam. Kung ‘yun ang desisyon niya, rerespetuhin ko. We can be good parents but we cannot be good partners.”

Kailangang maging matatag ako para sa kanila.” she further said.
