Pilipinas Got Talent Season 3 Will No Longer Allows Singer Contestants?

Pilipinas Got Talent Season 3 Will No Longer Allows Singer Contestants?

With singers Jovit Baldivino, Marcelito Pomoy, and singing group Maasinhon Trio being the first three winning acts of the first three seasons of Pilipinas Got Talent (PGT), its hosts Luis Manzano and Billy Crawford thought the fourth season of the Philippine franchise of the global "Got Talent" competition now needs variety among its contestants. They also believed that it is high time for singing hopefuls to give chance to other acts that could also show other talents Pinoy could be truly proud of.

"Napakagaling ng mga Pinoy sa pagkanta, hindi na pwede kwestyunin iyan ng buong mundo. Pero oras na para bigyan ang tsansa ng iba," Luis told ABS-CBN News.

He further said that singers should limit their exposure to "The X Factor Philippines" - the show dedicated only to aspiring musicians.

"We want it to be different. We're very happy na 'yung singers at this point, ay mayroong sariling show, 'yung 'X-Factor,' so sana, we want this to be really different. We want variety, we want talent," he said.

Billy, likewise, airs the same sentiment on his interview.

"We want talent. Kahit anong gusto mong gawin ay open ang 'PGT.' Dahil ipagmamalaki natin na hindi lang sa kantahan, sa sayawan, sa aktingan ang kaya natin. Meron naman talagang kakaibang talento ang Pinoy," Billy added.

Jennylyn Mercado Releases New Album Titled “Forever By Your Side”

Jennylyn Mercado Releases New Album Titled “Forever By Your Side”

It’s so rare and refreshing when a young singer actress like Jennylyn Mercado takes the high road. Now 25, the former ‘ultimate survivor’ of the first GMA’s Star Struck has released her latest offering, “Forever By Your Side” - a proof that the singer returns with an album that is altogether different from anything she’s ever done before.

The six-track album kicks off with lead single “Hindi Ka Na Mag-iisa” with her stunning vocals in a perfect ballad composed by Arnie Mendaros. “Forever By Your Side” album hit the stores last July 23 and debuted at no. 4 of Astroplus’ sales chart after its first week. It is also available on www.mymusicstore.com.ph and iTunes for downloads.

Forever By Your Side was recorded in a concise period of time and Jennylyn shares her experience, “I have been comfortable working with PolyEast Records, in terms of recording and picking the best songs for the album… every song is dedicated to a certain level of experience and story to anyone who can relate.” Jennylyn now sounds like a maturing young woman following her own intuition and muse as she interpreted songs by such accomplished singer/songwriters as Wency Cornejo, Nyoy Volante, Francis Salazar, Gabby Alipe to name a few.

I am very proud of this project because I was challenged with a much fresher sound—definitely new to my old brand of singing,” Jennylyn said. Album highlights include the title track and bouncy straight-forward pop Forever By Your Side, as interpreted in English by Wency Cornejo adapted from a Japanese song “Kizuna” (in English means “United”); Parang Kailan Lang and Ganun na Lang Ba soar into contemporary ballad treatment composed by Francis Salazar; Mercado’s personal favourite, Mahal na Mahal composed and arranged by Nyoy Volante; soulful and sweet number “Halik sa Hangin” composed by rock group Urbandub vocalist, Gabby Alipe.

I actually started singing, not acting and my first love is music” Jennylyn confesses as she remembers her early days guesting as a singer at Café de Malate - the same bar where Kyla started out - where she was asked to do regular gigs when she was 17 years old.

However, Jennylyn has received more attention for her film work and hosting on TV but the new album released by PolyEast Records invites a closer look at her musical palette, which has broadened considerably since her bubblegum-flavoured debut, 2004’s Living The Dream - which was reported to have sold 30, 000 units. She has also snagged two albums from GMA Records and Viva Records which have several popular singles such as “Sa Aking Panaginip,” “Moments Of Love” collaboration with Janno Gibbs, “Maybe This Time” and “Kahit Sandali.”

Her critically-acclaimed performance in a period movie, “Rosario” has made her one of Philippine’s most desirable actresses. Her TV appearances however includes soap operas like “Encantadia,” “Super Twins,” “SRO Cinemaserye: Suspetsa, Ikaw Sana” and “Sine Novela: Gumapang Ka Sa Lusak” among others. Mercado currently stars in another drama series on GMA 7 titled “Hindi Ka Na Mag-iisa” with co-stars Sid Lucero and Frank Magalona.

Jennylyn has recently branched out into television hosting, leading up the GMA 7’s reality series Protégé: The Battle for the Big Break with co-hosts Ogie Alcasid and Dingdong Dantes. She also co-hosts in GMA-7’s Sunday concert show Party Pilipinas and the newly-launched Sunday showbiz-oriented show HOT TV (Hindi Ordinaryong Tsismis).

Jennylyn said that in the two years since she released her last album, “a lot” has happened in her life, which also will serve as inspiration for her new songs. She now feels it is time to begin the next chapter of her career by returning to her roots: singing. She says, “Making this album has been the most creatively satisfying experience of my life.”

I wanted to sing songs I have a real connection to. Songs that have moved me – made me think about loss and ultimately finding joy. Essentially, tell the story of what love really is – with all its pain and promise.” Jennylyn stated.

Watch out for the video of the first single, “Hindi Ka Na Mag-iisa” directed by award-winning music video director Treb Monteras. The album is now available in AstroVision, AstroPlus, SM Record Bars, Odyssey and Landmark released by PolyEast Records. You can also download songs from the album on www.MyMusicStore.com.ph and iTunes. In the late ‘90s, she was one of the many budding sexy stars in Philippine showbiz. She is Hazel Klenk Reyes or more popularly known as Ara Mina.

Katy Perry Talks About "Katy Perry: Part of Me 3D" Movie

Katy Perry Talks About "Katy Perry: Part of Me 3D" Movie

Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson is the daughter of two Christian ministers who allowed only gospel music in their home.

But Hudson's alter ego, 27-year-old Katy Perry, looks every inch the pop star, with her purple hair and pink ruffled dress, as she arrives at a Beverly Hills hotel suite to talk about her new movie, Katy Perry: Part of Me 3D. Perry invited two filmmakers to tag along as she circled the globe on her sellout 124-arena California Dreams Tour. The movie captures performances and real life, including a glimpse into her marriage to comedian Russell Brand at the beginning of the tour, and one painful moment depicted later when she is seen sobbing as the marriage unravels.
''There were some moments that made my tummy turn when I saw them in the final edit, because I'd already lived them and I really didn't want to live them again,'' Perry says.

''But I thought maybe if I shared that I got through the problem, other people wouldn't feel so alone in their problems. We all go through a lot of the same things and it's not about the problem but about how you solve it. The theme of the whole movie for me is about overcoming obstacles.''

Perry never met an obstacle she couldn't overcome, it seems, starting at age nine, when she taught herself to play guitar. In 2007, she landed a record deal and her first single, 2008's I Kissed a Girl, held the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 for seven weeks. She went on to become the first woman in music history to produce six No.1 singles from one album, Teenage Dream, including Firework and California Gurls.

''I think we're all blessed with gifts and I was lucky I just found out what mine was early on and have planted that seed and tried to water it every day,'' she says.

The down-to-earth performer admits that she does harbour a desire for perfection.

''What holds me up is focus and determination, and this incredible ambition that just hasn't subsided yet,'' she says.

Had you any other music films in your mind when you made that call?

I was inspired by Madonna’s documentary “Truth or Dare.” I loved her documentary and I loved seeing it, because I wasn’t exposed to anything like that, really, when I was growing up. For instance, I want to watch the first “Alien” film, because I want to see “Prometheus,” and I haven’t seen the first one. I wasn’t allowed to watch or hear or be exposed to a lot of different pop culture moments in the ‘80s and ‘90s, when I was a kid, because of my upbringing.

And you gave the filmmakers unlimited access during your California Dreams tour?

Yes, they came on the road and they shot everything—they were there for probably eight months out of the whole year, and they had over 300 hours of footage. Then, we started taking swings at the idea of making a movie and reached out to a bunch of people – it was a long process. We took it to different studios, and Paramount really latched onto the idea, and they’ve been great partners. We’re so in-synch and we wanted the same thing, and it’s been incredible. And in the movie industry, the summertime is really important. They’re putting it out on such an important weekend, and it’s very exciting – I have Christmas Eve jitters [laughs]. I’m very excited about it, and people seem to be responding to it in a very positive way.

Tell me about the decision to shoot in 3D. It works really well with the concert footage. What does it give the film?

We filmed that at the Staples Center for two nights with these new 3D cameras that hadn’t been used before - or, at least they hadn’t been used for this type of thing - and the texture is so beautiful. The slow motion shots are great – and I love that we can bring that to this type of film, because it adds some gorgeous nuances and detail. There are a lot different textures in the film that we use to tell the story, because there is a lot of backstory. Overall, I’m very happy with it, and I’m happy with the narrative.

And there is a clear narrative. It’s not just a film of you on tour; it’s a diary of your life up to this point…

Yes, the narrative is really about overcoming these obstacles of where I came from and who I wanted to be, and my personal obstacle of what I had to get through. And now, I’m still here and I’m still standing. And I think it was important to me to leave in those scenes of me in distress.

It shows too, that no matter what was going on backstage – no matter how upset you were – you still have that ‘the show must go on’ mentality….

You have to find a balance between being a human being and a performer. I know that it’s important for me to realise that this is a job at this level and to separate my personal life from my professional life and the fact of the matter is that we all have obstacles and problems in our lives. It would be unfair for me to press my problems on to my audience who were never there to experience that – they were there to be entertained, they were there to have a great time, they were all in costume and so I had to turn that side of me off when I went on stage.

No, it doesn’t. But it is poignant and it’s honest. But clearly you could have left those scenes out. Why did you feel it was important to include them?

Well, it’s the elephant in the room that I couldn’t avoid or ignore, because it would be ignorant of me to think I could make a complete film without even touching on it. And I’ve always wanted every choice I make to have integrity. Sometimes, that’s not the easy choice, but hopefully, what people get from this is that they don’t have to change who they are to fulfil their dreams. That’s what I believe and that’s what I’ve tried to do myself.

Is one of the messages in the film that there is a price that you pay for fame, too?

Yes, there are definitely sacrifices. But that’s part of a lot of people’s stories, whether they are famous or not. There is sacrifice. You know, heavy is the head that wears the crown. I put that in one of my songs - ‘Heavy is the head that wears the crown, don’t let the greatness get you down.’ Sometimes, it can be an extreme pressure, but really, it’s an opportunity. I try and have a positive outlook.

You’ve said before that Alanis Morissette was an influence on you. Have you met her?

Yes. I hung out with Alanis the other day - she is just so wise beyond her years. She said something that really stayed with me - she said, ‘Transparency is the new mystery.’ I agree with that, because in our culture, in our society, unfortunately, you see a lot of women, a lot of girls, and people who are ‘famous,’ and they are always perfectly presented—I think that can make people feel insecure. They think that they have to appear perfectly presented and perfectly made up, and to have certain possessions or material things that make them seem more of value...and that’s not at all what people should be focused on in order to achieve their dreams. And that’s some of the reasons why I kept those moments in the film where I’m clearly tired and I look horrible, I don’t look like I used to be, perfectly presented at all times. Because I’ve really built up this cartoon image of me and, in some ways, I think it’s time—not necessarily to break that down, but...to show that not only am I Dorothy wearing slippers and I’ve been on this long journey, but also, here’s what’s under the hood. Here’s where I come from.

What do you hope the audience will get out of this film?

I hope that people will be inspired and get moving, and I hope that they will be encouraged to know that they don’t have to change into something that they are not in order to succeed. My message is, live a full life and reach your goals, however big or small they may be. I think some of my audience, especially teenagers, can feel a little bit lost about how to get to where they want to go. I think they can be confused about what they want to do in life, and how they want to fulfill their ambitions...because I think we’ve been fed, especially in the last five years or so, the wrong priorities. And although I’ve been susceptible to some of those things, I’ve tried to move beyond that idea that you have to be a victim in order to achieve your dreams.

When Andrew’s editor, Jerry (Dave Foley), tells him to put a modern, sexy twist on his column or be fired, he hires Bert as a life coach in the hopes of learning to be less “gentle man” and more of a “real man.” Though Andrew and Bert’s views may be centuries apart, they may find they are each other’s missing link. Nandito na si chito
Si chito miranda
Nandito na si kiko
Si francis magalona
Nandito na si gloc 9
Wala syang apelyido
Magbabagsakan dito in 5 4 3 2

Nandito na si chito
Si chito miranda
Nandito rin si kiko
Si francis magalona
Nandito rin si gloc 9
Wala syang apelyido
Magbabagsakan dito
Mauuna si chito!

Chito Miranda:
At astig baka sakaling marinig
At aming samahan
Shit! panu to wala nko masabi
Ngunit kailangan gumalaw ng mga labi kong ito
Kunyari nagbabakasakali
Na magaling din ako kaya nasali!

Natapos na si chito
Si chito miranda
Nandito na si kiko
Si francis magalona
Nandito rin si gloc 9
Wala syang apelyido
Magbabagsakan dito
Babanat na si kiko!

Frank Magalona:
It aint uzi or ingram
Triggers in the maximum
Not a 45 but 44 magnum
And it aint even a 357
Nor 12 gauge but the mouth so listen
Nandito na si kiko at kasama ko si chito at si gloc 9
And it’s time to rock rhyme
Di ko mapigilan lumabas ang mga salita
Sa aking bibig di padadaig
Ang bunganga
Hala tumunganga
Lahat napapahanga sa talento
Akoy taga kalentong
Batang mandaluyong na ngayun nakatira sa antipolo
Sumasaklolo sa mga hiphop
Pwede karerin o
Pwede rin trip lang
Si gloc kasama ng parokya
Parang bulagaan at kelangan di mabokya
Hindi mo na kelangang malaman
Kung bakit pa
Kaming lahat ay nagsamasama
Mic check eto na nagsanib na ang pwersa
Francis magalona-gloc9-at-ang-parokya
1 2 3 4 lets volt in!

Natapos na si chito
Si chito miranda
Tapos na rin si kiko
Si francis magalona
Nandito na si gloc 9

Gloc9:
ahhh mic check – mic check

Wala syang apelyido

Gloc9: naka on na ba ung mic?

Magbabagsakan dito
Kelangan ng magingat
At ang huling bagsakan
Si gloc 9 ang babanat!

Gloc9:
Medyo nabibilisan
Hindi mo naisip na pwedeng mangyari
Magkasamasama lahat ay kasali!

Chito Miranda:
Ngayun lang nadinig
Hindi na to madadaig
Nagsamasama sa bagsakan
At naging isang bibig
Magingat ingat ka nga at baka masindak
Sapagkat andito na si chito-at-si-kiko-at-si-gloc!

“Resident Evil: Retribution” Opens in PH Theaters on September 12

“Resident Evil: Retribution” Opens in PH Theaters on September 12

“Resident Evil,” the wildly successful film franchise adaptation of the popular video game series that has grossed nearly $700 million worldwide, returns with its highly anticipated fifth installment, “Resident Evil: Retribution,” written and directed by Paul W.S. Anderson.

In the film, the Umbrella Corporation’s deadly T-virus continues to ravage the Earth, transforming the global population into legions of the flesh eating Undead. The human race’s last and only hope, Alice (Milla Jovovich), awakens in the heart of Umbrella’s most clandestine operations facility and unveils more of her mysterious past as she delves further into the complex.

Without a safe haven, Alice continues to hunt those responsible for the outbreak; a chase that takes her from Tokyo to New York, Washington, D.C. and Moscow, culminating in a mind-blowing revelation that will force her to rethink everything that she once thought to be true. Aided by newfound allies and familiar friends, Alice must fight to survive long enough to escape a hostile world on the brink of oblivion. The countdown has begun.

The story-line of `Retribution’ is intricate and a bit twisty and turny, which is quite cool and will take many people by surprise,” explains Anderson, the creator and main engine behind the whole “Resident Evil” cinematic franchise. “I think the first movie had a very intricate structure, and then the films that came later became a bit simpler and linear in terms of the way they were plotted. So, I wanted to kind of go back to that original structure in this movie; but, whereas `Resident Evil’ had a more modest scale to it, here we have the intricate structure of that first movie with a much grander scope to it. Hopefully we have the best of both worlds…

Tying the films in conjunction with the celebrated video games was also a primary concern for Anderson. “We took fight moves directly from a scene with Ada Wong in the game Resident Evil 4, and then Resident Evil 5 has a car chase through the desert in which our heroes are driving an armored Hummer with a machine gun in the back of it that we recreated with a Phantom Rolls Royce in the Red Square.”

Indeed, “Retribution” aims to be the most ambitious “Resident Evil” movie to date. “One of the reasons this franchise has grown is because we have never rested on our laurels and just done the same thing again,” says Anderson, “but it’s definitely a pressure to up the ante each time. The last movie was such a success that I wanted to kind of push the envelope with this one. And part of that has to do with the whole globetrotting nature of the film. We have shot in Moscow’s Red Square, Shibuya in Tokyo, Washington D. C. and Times Square. And we have even been out in the real snow and ice of Alaska! So, we have tried to make the first epic undead movie with `Resident Evil: Retribution.’

Opening across the Philippines on September 12, “Resident Evil: Retribution” is distributed by Columbia Pictures, local office of Sony Pictures Releasing International.

Monsters are Just Like Regular People in ‘Hotel Transylvania’

Hotel Transylvania is a story about a father and a daughter – it’s just that the father happens to be Dracula,” says Genndy Tartakovsky, director of Sony Pictures Animation’s new, 3D animated comedy, “Hotel Transylvania.”

Like all fathers, he’s an overprotective, psychotic, and endearing guy who’d do anything for his daughter, but unlike other fathers, he’s the Prince of Darkness.”

In the film it turns out that the world’s most famous monsters – including Dracula, Frankenstein, the Werewolf, the Invisible Man, and the Mummy – are just like regular people, with families and problems and a need to get away from it all… but unlike humans, they have to live in hiding from a world that thinks they’re, well, monsters. What better place to hide than Hotel Transylvania, which Dracula himself operates as a sanctuary from the rest of the world and has been human-free since 1898?

But Dracula has issues of his own… his daughter, Mavis, is a teenager – in fact, she’s about to turn 118 – and as she becomes a woman, the vampire’s greatest fear is losing his relationship with her. Well, his two greatest fears are losing his relationship with his daughter and garlic, but that’s another story.

One of the toughest things you have to do as a parent is to let your children go out into the world,” says producer Michelle Murdocca, who has shepherded the film since its inception. “You can’t protect them; you just have to trust that they’re going to be able to take care of themselves. It turns out that even Dracula thinks the world can be a scary place sometimes.”

Hotel Transylvania makes these monsters funny – funnier than they’ve ever been – but the reason these monsters have lasted through the years is that they all have great personal stories,” says Tartakovsky. “There’s a humanity to them that makes them accessible. And that’s what we’ve found for our Dracula – there’s a great, accessible, bittersweet story, where you see how human the vampire is.”

When I first joined Sony Pictures Animation – right at the very beginning of the studio – and looked at the development slate, I was immediately struck by `Hotel Transylvania,’” says Murdocca, who also produced Sony Pictures Animation’s first feature film, “Open Season.” “I loved the fun that we could have with all of these traditional characters as we do a whole new take on them. When Adam Sandler joined the project, it really opened up a lot of possibilities about who Dracula could be – suddenly, we saw the potential of it becoming a bigger and broader comedy than we had ever imagined.”

Opening across the Philippines in September, “Hotel Transylvania” is distributed by Columbia Pictures, local office of Sony Pictures Releasing International.

GMA Network Opens Ilocos and Bicol Stations to Boost Luzon Viewership

GMA Network Opens Ilocos and Bicol Stations to Boost Luzon Viewership

GMA Network, Inc. (GMA-7) firms up its nationwide leadership with the recent launches of two additional originating stations in Luzon.

In June this year, the Company opened its originating station in Ilocos thru Channel 5 in Ilocos Norte and Channel 48 in Ilocos Sur, covering parts of Abra.

The Ilocos Station, an investment worth over P100 million, has competitive signal strength that services over 218,000 estimated television households.

In August, the Company launched another originating regional station in Bicol with capital expenditures worth over P100 million. GMA Bicol is now seen in the provinces of Camarines Sur and Albay and will soon be seen in Sorsogon, Masbate, and Catanduanes for a total estimated television households coverage of over 805,000.

The GMA Bicol originating station followed GMA Naga’s impressive bottom line performance as a satellite station since its launch in 2009. GMA Naga consistently delivered double-digit annual net income growth until its recent conversion to a full-blown originating station.

GMA Ilocos and GMA Bicol are increments to GMA’s four originating stations found in Cebu, Davao, Iloilo, and Dagupan, all revenue contributors since the start of regional operations in 2006 till present.

According to GMA Chairman and CEO lawyer Felipe L. Gozon, the establishment of additional regional stations affirms the Company’s aggressive stance in capturing the interest of Filipino viewers from different parts of the country. “We study and customize our response to the diverse programming needs of viewers from different parts of the country. The newly opened Ilocos and Bicol stations service the locals, who are used to using their respective dialects other than Filipino,” Gozon says.

GMA President and COO Gilberto R. Duavit, Jr. shares that both stations are technically capable of producing local programs and are equipped with microwave and satellite facilities. He also says that the stations are equipped with active news gathering systems capable of delivering news coverage within the originating or neighboring provinces that can be aired locally or nationwide.

We are excited by the opportunity to share more of our programs, both national and soon, local, with our valued viewers in the Ilocos and Bicol regions and look forward to their making GMA a bigger part of their regular viewing time,” Duavit says.

These stations in strategic areas outside Mega Manila have been instrumental in increasing revenue for the network and in growing GMA’s overall viewership nationwide.

GMA’s sustained nationwide ratings supremacy that commenced in 2011 was mainly driven by strong weekday and weekend programming across all time blocks and ratings increments in the Visayas and Mindanao regions.

GMA’s localized programming content is now complemented by respective news and public affairs programs in the Ilocos and Bicol regions.

‘Balitang Ilokano,’ anchored by veteran broadcast journalist Jorge Guerrero, covers a broad range of topics from politics, religion, natural calamities, to regional festivals. The Ilokano-speaking newscast, which airs daily over GMA Ilocos from 5:10PM to 5:50PM, is fast-becoming a preferred information source in the North through good reviews from the online community and trade.

Meanwhile, ‘Baretang Bikol’ brings a local flavor to GMA’s brand of news delivery. Anchored by veteran journalist Elmer Caseles, the newscast will go on-air beginning September 17 from 5:10PM to 5:50PM.

Both newscasts have multi-link systems that make it possible to air live reports from Laoag to Vigan (for ‘Balitang Ilokano’), and from Legazpi to Naga (‘for Baretang Bikol’). The newscasts are manned by trained correspondents, and powered by state of the art broadcast equipment.
