Julie Anne San Jose Wishes for Happiness, More Opportunities as She Turns 18

Julie Anne San Jose had just finished her birthday/thanksgiving concert held on May 16 when she sat down for an interview with some members of the entertainment press to share her elation over the success of her first concert.

Grabe, ang saya. Hindi ko ineexpect na ganito pala karami ‘yung mga tao. It’s really an overwhelming feeling na nag-enjoy talaga sila,” she shared.

The said concert was held at the Hard Rock Café in Makati, which was filled with screaming and ecstatic fans that night.

Her ‘first love’

Many viewers today could hardly recall the moment when Julie Anne first appeared on television when she joined Eat Bulaga’s Search for the Little Miss Philippines when she was only three years old, but a few could have missed her viral video on YouTube in which she sang an acoustic version of Nikki Minaj’s “Super Bass.” The video has already garnered more than 14 million views since it was uploaded less than a year ago.

Asked what’s the inspiration behind her every performance, she answered, “Music.”

Music is really my passion talaga e. Kahit noong bata pa ako, kumakanta na talaga ako e. Kumbaga, ito ‘yong pinakahilig ko.”

Birthday wish

Julie Anne turned 18 yesterday, May 17, and just like any other debutante she had a long list of wishes for this year.

Sana maging masaya pa rin ako ngayong taon, good health, more opportunities and projects to come and maging successful po ang career ko at makatapos po ako ng pag-aaral.

Julie Anne decided to take a hiatus from school due to her hectic schedule recently. She plans, however, to resume studying this June.

The ‘JuliElmo’ love team

Even if she’s already eighteen, getting into a relationship is something that’s not yet in Julie Anne’s horizon. She said that she wants to focus first on her career and her studies anyway love can wait.

She may not have a real-life boyfriend but Julie Anne is happy having at least a “reel-life” partner in the person of Elmo Magalona. Although to their throngs of fans the Julie Anne – Elmo Magalona or “JuliElmo” love team was a match made in heaven, actually, it had a serendipitous beginning.

Nag-umpisa kami sa Party Pilipinas when we did a number together. Siguro the network thought we would click as a love team. Kaya ‘yun naging magka-love team kami.”

Julie Anne and Elmo Magalona are starring in an upcoming GMA Films’ offering “Just One Summer,” which is slated to hit theatres sometime in August.

Julie Anne shared a glimpse of her character in the said movie.

Mahirap lang po ako dito, probinsiyana po ako. My character is really honest sa family, sa feelings niya, etc.. Si Elmo naman, yung character niya salbahe siya ‘dun e. As time goes by, babait siya. Parang ako ‘yung magpapabago sa kanya.”

DZMM’s ‘Kabayan’ Makes It As Only Philippines Finalist at 2012 New York Festivals

DZMM’s public affairs program “Kabayan” anchored by multi-awarded broadcast journalist ‘Kabayan’ Noli de Castro was named as a finalist at the prestigious 2012 New York Festivals (NYF) World’s Best Radio Programs.

“Kabayan” was distinguished in the Best Public Affairs Program category and the lone Philippine radio program to succeed in the international competition.

According to Nanette Baler-Quong, the program’s executive producer, the NYF recognized the episodes where Kabayan extended aid to overseas Filipino workers (OFW) caught in the war in Syria last January.

She said “Kabayan” served as the link between the Department of Foreign Affairs and OFWs living in different parts of Syria, including OFW Gande Das whom Kabayan would talk to on air everyday to calm her down after she threatened to jump off her employer’s building so she could escape and come back to the Philippines. The Philippine embassy in Damascus had already repatriated Das and other OFWs.

“Kabayan” is aired on Radyo Patrol 630 and DZMM TeleRadyo (SkyCable ch 26) on weekdays at 6:00 a.m.

Tommy Lee Jones Harbors a Deep Secret in “Men in Black 3”

Tommy Lee Jones Harbors a Deep Secret in “Men in Black 3”

One of the most acclaimed and accomplished actors ever in Hollywood, Academy Award® winner Tommy Lee Jones brings a distinct character to his every film. Now, he returns to the big screen as the stern Agent K in Columbia Pictures' 3D sci-fi adventure comedy “Men In Black 3.”

In the film, Agents J (Will Smith) and K are back... in time. J has seen some inexplicable things in his 15 years with the Men in Black, but nothing, not even aliens, perplexes him as much as his wry, reticent partner. But when K’s life and the fate of the planet are put at stake, Agent J will have to travel back in time to put things right. J discovers that there are secrets to the universe that K never told him -- secrets that will reveal themselves as he teams up with the young Agent K (Josh Brolin) to save his partner, the agency, and the future of humankind.

The relationship between J and K has been both contentious and affectionate at the same time throughout the movies,” says Tommy Lee Jones, who again dons the suit and shades.

Jones was enthusiastic about playing the gruff Agent K. He says, “Any time you go to work with Will Smith is going to be a happy day, and Will and director Barry Sonnenfeld together make it an even happier day. They are wonderful people to work with.”

The story of “Men In Black 3” takes the filmmakers back – back to the characters’ origins, back to the key moments of their relationship, to focus on the key elements that have kept them at arms’ length from each other for 15 years – and looked for ways to resolve the conflict. The answer came in sending Agent J back – back in time.

At the beginning of the movie, J and K are still partners – but they haven’t learned much about each other in all their time together,” says producer Walter F. Parkes. “In fact, at the very beginning of the story, the character of Men In Black chief, Zed, has recently died and K gives a eulogy that provides no information whatsoever about him. This despite the fact that Zed was supposedly his best friend for 45 years. It makes J think, after all these years, what do I really know about the guy sitting next to me? That is the foundation for our story, and it coincides with the escape of an alien, Boris the Animal, that K put away 40 years earlier, in 1969 – and he’s coming back for some kind of payback on K.”

Some kind of payback, indeed: Boris jumps back in time to 1969 and kills K. No one in 2012 has any memory that K wasn’t murdered 40 years earlier – no one except J, who is wondering what happened to his partner. To save K, J follows Boris back into the past – and as he does, he sees an opportunity to learn more about his partner. “J sees saving K as a great opportunity to learn secrets about K – he thinks he’ll find out why K is so grumpy and reserved,” concludes Sonnenfeld.

Opening across the Philippines on May 23 in 3D and regular theaters, “Men in Black 3” will be distributed by Columbia Pictures, local office of Sony Pictures Releasing International. TV5 Partners with World’s No. 1 Weather News Service

TV5 Partners with World’s No. 1 Weather News Service

CIGNAL, the Philippines ’ fastest growing satellite TV provider and TV5 sister company, will launch the Weather Information Network ( WIN ) – the country’s first dedicated 24/7 weather and public information channel. The launch is opportune as the country prepares for the onset of the rainy season which according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) starts the middle of May this year.

PAGASA Chief Dr. Nathaniel Servando singled out TV5 and lauded its commitment to improving weather news broadcasting. “TV5’s continuing improvement in their weather broadcasting system and closer cooperation with PAGASA will contribute significantly to the reduction of damages and casualties due to severe weather events,”. “The longstanding collaboration between PAGASA and the media, TV5 in particular has served the public very well specially during extreme weather events by communication accurate weather information in a timely and prudent manner to the public,” he added.

TV5 invested heavily in developing its weather news broadcast capability by partnering with METRA, the world’s number 1 weather news service and recognized provider of weather products and services, such as graphical rendition of weather updates for use by its media and other industry clients. METRA is New Zealand ’s privately owned meteorological service and is a member of the UN World Meteorological Organization. It has over a hundred clients in Asia , Europe , the Middle East , North America and Australia . Multinational corporations, such as those involved in energy, infrastructure, retail and food services, use METRA to fine tune its operations in order to maximize profits and minimize loss.

TV5 has been giving detailed weather information through its Aksyon Weather Center since 2010. Now, using METRA’s advanced computer based weather visualization system and information from PAGASA, TV5 can now make weather updates easily understandable to the laymen audiences – gone are the days of a static map and grainy black and white satellite photo.

With METRA provided graphics, TV5 can now tell the weather story visually and better than anyone in the Philippine broadcast industry. Full color and full motion graphics can show projected storm tracks, wind direction, rain volume and water conditions. Apart from giving the general overview of Philippine weather, TV5 is able to do fly – bys of regional and provincial weather as well as niche weather updates, such as beach / resorts, shipping and seven day forecasts.

PAGASA, along with the AGHAM Partylist and the Philippine Meteorology Society, noted the highly visual, easily understandable weather updates. “What News5 is doing is not just utilizing pretty faces or wacky personalities is very helpful para maintindihan ng mga tao ang kahalagahan ng isang weather bulletin o ng isang weather report,” Palmones said. “Magandang effort ito para maintindihan ng mga tao kung ano ang kahalagahan ng meteorology program by understanding yung pagbabago n gating panahon through weather reporting,” Palmones added, “Magpatuloy yung mga innovation ng ginagawa so that makatulong ng husto ang pagunawa ng publiko sa kahalagahan ng weather updates.”

For non-Cignal subscribers, relevant and up-to-date weather reports will still be possible through TV5’s free-to-all platforms such as TV5, Aksyon TV, Radyo Singko and InterAksyon.com’s weather updates. Cignal, the country’s largest direct-to-home satellite TV provider with over 250,000 subscribers, has earlier launched its own living magazine channel Colours and sports channel Hyper last April. It also unveiled additional HD channels – making it the premiere pay TV provider with the most HD channels nationwide.

Court of Appeals Favors GMA Films in Civil Suit Filed Against Movie Licensor

Court of Appeals Favors GMA Films in Civil Suit Filed Against Movie Licensor

The Court of Appeals (CA) ruled in favor of GMA Network Films, Inc. in a civil case filed by the latter against movie licensor and supplier Ricardo Honrado.

In a 13-page decision penned by Associate Justice Stephen C. Cruz dated April 30, 2012, the Special Thirteenth Division of the CA reversed and set aside the Regional Trial Court’s (RTC) dismissal of the case owing to Honrado’s violation of a TV Rights Agreement with GMA Films.

In December 1998, GMA Films entered into an agreement with Honrado covering thirty-six (36) films, which the latter offered for telecast. The agreement states that the program titles are subject to the approval of the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB); and in the event of disapproval, a censored title must be replaced by the licensor with a new title acceptable to both parties, or a proportionate amount shall be deducted or refunded from the total price.

In May 2003, GMA Films filed a complaint for payment and damages against Honrado with the RTC for his refusal to refund the payment for the movies “Evangeline Katorse” and “Bubot.”

The former was initially rejected by GMA Films so Honrado attempted to replace it with the movie “Winasak na Pangarap.” However, the replacement, being a bold film, was also deemed unacceptable for airing.

GMA Films also contended that only P500,000 went to the owner of the movie “Bubot” out of the P1.25 million paid by GMA Films to Honrado.

GMA Films therefore demanded that Honrado return the total amount of P2 million representing the P1.25 million it paid for the movie “Evangeline Katorse” and P750,000 as balance from the amount Honrado received for the film “Bubot.”

The CA ruled that GMA Films is within its rights as a licensee to demand a suitable replacement for the movie “Evangeline Katorse” based on the express terms of the contract. After the film “Winasak na Pangarap” was not accepted by GMA Films as a suitable replacement for “Evangeline Katorse,” Honrado had the duty to either find another title acceptable to both parties, or to return the money paid by GMA Films in the amount of P1.25 million.

According to the Court, Honrado, not being the owner but only the licensor of the film “Bubot,” is not entitled to any commission and has no right to retain any amount in excess of what was paid to the movie owner. The CA likewise said that the RTC erred in awarding Honrado attorney’s fees amounting to P100,000 as GMA Films “was merely forced to protect its rights and interest under a valid contract and to rectify a wrong done upon it.”

The Court awarded GMA Films P2 million plus interest and damages.

Warner Bros. Rises to $1-B at International Box office in Record Time

On the heels of its strong overseas opening of Dark Shadows and the momentum of its first quarter releases, Warner Bros. Pictures has surpassed the $1 billion threshold in overseas box office in less than five months, surpassing its 2010 Studio record by ten days. This marks the twelfth consecutive year the Division has grossed over $1 billion overseas, beginning in 2001. The announcement was made by Veronika Kwan Vandenberg, President, International Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures.

The Studio hits this high water mark as it gears up for a full slate of highly anticipated titles later in the year, including Adam Shankman's Rock of Ages, Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises, Ben Affleck's Argo, and Peter Jackson's The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.

The Division enjoyed a strong start early in the year with the continued overseas success of Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, which grossed $257 million in 2012 ($357 million total international box office). This was followed by impressive grosses on the 2D and 3D releases of Journey 2: The Mysterious Island ($222 million) and Wrath of the Titans ($218.3 million). Released in some territories day-and-date with the U.S., Dark Shadows has already grossed $37.3 million, with many markets yet to open. Earnings from 3D venues reached $324 million, representing nearly a third of the Division’s cumulative gross for 2012.

Our success thus far this year would not be possible without the ingenuity of our filmmakers, and the hard work and dedication of our teams around the world,” Kwan Vandenberg said. "These remarkable results demonstrate the continued strength of the international business, particularly in rapidly expanding overseas markets and in 3D.

Warner Bros Pictures International has been the market leader in six of the previous 11 years. The Studio has surpassed $1 billion at the international box office a total of 15 times, with four of those years exceeding $2 billion, including 2011. The studio earned $2.87 billion internationally last year, and was the number one studio in Europe.

Prometheus (3D) Finally Landing on June 6

Prometheus (3D) Finally Landing on June 6

Ridley Scott returns to the sci-fi genre in Prometheus (3D), a genre he’s best known for starring an all-power cast headed by Charlize Theron, Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Logan Marshall-Green, Idris Elba and Guy Pearce.

The team of scientists and explorers aboard the Prometheus are on nothing less than a journey to discover answers to some of life’s most profound questions. Two brilliant young scientists, Shaw (Rapace) and Holloway (Green) possessing contrasting motivations, lead the expedition. Shaw is a believer: she wants to meet these “gods” as a way of getting closer to her more traditional religious views, while Holloway is looking to debunk these kinds of spiritual notions. In their work as archeologists, they have discovered clues in cave pictograms from ancient civilizations across the world, all of which point to the same location in distant space, and have persuaded a corporation, Weyland Industries, to fund the mission.

Neither scientist was prepared for the unimaginable terrors they would encounter. “When Shaw and Holloway conceived the mission, their expectation was they would discover a benevolent species that might provide answers to some of our greatest mysteries,” says executive producer Michael Ellenberg. “In other words they were hoping to meet gods. But these beings prove to be anything but compassionate. They are a dangerous race of superbeings.”

The crew of the Prometheus thinks they’re headed to paradise to discover answers to the ultimate questions. But what they find is a dark and twisted and frightening world – a way station for these beings,” adds scribe Jon Spaihts. “The cold and implacable environment is more like hell than heaven.”

In Ridley Scott’s films, including Prometheus, the protagonists’ discoveries often defy expectations. “That’s what makes good drama,” states the filmmaker. “Our story circles the truth of what might be out there and therein lays its most frightening aspect. Feasibility always creates the finest and most dangerous drama and the opportunity for me to scare the hell out of everyone.”

Available in 3D, Imax 3D and 2D platforms, “Prometheus” will open June 6 nationwide from 20th Century Fox to be distributed by Warner Bros.

Kristen Stewart Twilight’s Turning into Snow as White

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

Kristen Stewart Twilight’s Turning into Snow as White

In Snow White and the Huntsman, a breathtaking new vision of the legendary tale begins. Kristen Stewart plays the only person in the land fairer than the evil Queen Ravenna (Charlize Theron). The casting of Ravenna’s nemesis was slightly trickier than finding her pursuer. The filmmakers were searching for an actress who could capture both sides of the archetypal character: the innocence, naivetĂ© and tenderness that Snow White demonstrates in the first half of our story, and the tough, physical warrior princess that she becomes in the second half. They discovered a number of younger actresses who could play the first half of the movie brilliantly but had trouble convincing the team that they could carry off the tougher persona. Likewise, when older actresses auditioned, they could well portray the battle-hardened soldier but were unconvincing as the recessive captive that the film’s early scenes demanded.

After a worldwide search for a performer who could fulfill the demands of this expansive role, Kristen Stewart, known for her role as Bella Swan in the blockbuster Twilight saga, was cast in the much coveted role of Snow White. Comments director Rupert Sanders of the team’s choice: “Kristen is such an incredible talent. She has obviously done amazing work in her projects to date, but this opens her up to an even larger audience and gives her a classical role. She’s previously been in films that are of our era and not done a film quite like this. This is her chance to rise, and to shine as well. The two track well together.”

Producer Joe Roth gives a bit of background on her casting: “We all felt convinced that Snow White was not shy but somebody who was an aggressive, assertive, positive Joan of Arc-like figure. We originally were looking for an unknown to play the character, in the same way we did on Alice in Wonderland, where we found Mia Wasikowska. However, Rupert and I decided to fly down to New Orleans, where the last Twilight film was being shot, and sat and talked to Kristen. We felt great about casting Kristen. She really did her homework for this role. She spent four months riding horses and four months with an English accent.”

Stewart introduces us to a young woman we thought we had long known: “We’re not trying to take Snow White and turn her on her side; we stay very true to who she is in the story. She represents a reminder of just how great people can be to one another.” Agreeing with Theron, the actress appreciated the material’s thoughtful take on beauty and power. Stewart says: “It’s been interesting to play a young girl who is completely unaware of any vanity. She just has none. In almost every other role you play, you’re at least aware of yourself and might have to play a girl dealing with vanity as she grows into a woman. The fact that Snow White has absolutely none of that, and Ravenna has the ultimate opposite, says something very nice about what people find beautiful in life.”

The performer appreciated the writers’ take on Snow White, a character initially trapped in a forest that draws its strength from any weakness. Stewart reflects: “I do admire strong characters, but this wasn’t strong for the sake of strong. It was so feminine and so human, and I love playing a character who is someone that you’re going to root for and throw your drink on the ground and stand up and go, ‘Yeah!’

This part represented Stewart’s first time as an action heroine, albeit a conflicted one. She says: “Snow White is initially this disconnected martyr. After she escapes, she’s becoming this human being again, but she’s not necessarily fighting for herself. It’s like there’s a hole that can’t be filled. Most action characters are so self-righteous and vindictive, but she won’t do that. I’ve never seen that before, and I think it’s awesome.”

Stewart knew there would be much stunt work involved in a production of this size and scope, and she was more than ready for the challenge. For example, during Snow White’s escape scene, the actress was required to be literally up to her shoulders in an enclosed sewer set with dozens of live rats. As well, she had to jump off of a two-story building into a pool on a chilly London day to make this daring escape.

“Snow White and the Huntsman” is released and distributed by United International Pictures through Solar Entertainment Corp. Showing on June 1, 2012 nationwide.

ABS-CBN’s Recurring Net Income Up by 1% for the First Quarter of 2012

Left to Right: Head of Customer Development Group Vivian Tin, Chief Finance Officer Ron Valdueza, Head of Financial Planning & Systems Peng Armonia, Head of Comptrollership Paz Balayan, Head of Treasury & Compliance Michael Villanueva at the ABS-CBN 2012 first quarter analysts’ and press briefing.

The consolidated net income of ABS-CBN Corporation, the country’s largest multimedia conglomerate, registered P306 million for the first quarter of 2012, down by 69% compared with P976 million in the same period last year. Removing the effects of the gain from the sale of Sky Cable PDRs recognized in the first quarter of 2011 amounting to P674 million, net income would have increased by 1%.

ABS-CBN generated consolidated revenues of P7.1 billion from advertising and consumer sales for the first three months, an 8% increase compared to the same period last year.

ABS-CBN’s advertising revenues reached P4.2 billion in the first three months of the year, an increase of 4% from a year ago. Consumer sales for the quarter amounted to almost P3.0 billion, posting a 15% increase from a year ago. Sky Cable continues to contribute positively with revenues increasing by 12% to P1.2 billion. This is mostly driven by the increased take up of its broadband service subscriptions which increased by 20% year-on-year. ABS-CBN Global revenues likewise increased by 3% year on year on the back of a 3% increase in overall viewer count compared to the previous year. There was double-digit subscriber growth in Canada and single digit growth in all other territories, except Japan and Europe where subscribers
declined.

Total operating and other expenses increased by 10% year-on-year to P6.1 billion brought about by increases in production costs, cost of sales and services , and general and administrative expenses.

As a result of the foregoing, net income attributable to shareholders for the first quarter of the year is at P306 million, 69% lower than last year’s net income of P976 million, but 1% higher than last year’s recurring income of P302 million.

Capital expenditure and film and program rights acquisition for the quarter amounted to P1.1 billion, 22% higher than the level of spending for the same period last year.

ABS-CBN maintained its national audience share and ratings leadership with prime-time audience share averaging 42% in the first quarter of 2012, with a 12 percentage point lead over GMA’s, based on the Kantar National TV Ratings.

For the first three months of 2012, 17 of the company’s shows were in the Top 20, with the following occupying the Top 10 slots: Walang Hanggan, Ikaw ay Pag-ibig, Budoy, My Binondo Girl, Dahil sa Pag-ibig, Eboy,Maalaala Mo Kaya…, TV Patrol (Weekday), Nasaan Ka Elisa, Wansapanataym, Junior Master Chef Pinoy Edition (Saturday) and Rated K Handa Na Ba Kayo?
ABS-CBN Film Productions, Inc. released five films in the first quarter of 2012. Three of them– Enteng ng Ina Mo, Segunda Mano and Unofficially Yours–topped P100 million in box office receipts, earning blockbuster status by local standards.

GMA Network Profits P388-M in 1st Quarter of 2012

GMA Network Profits P388-M in 1st Quarter of 2012

Broadcast company GMA Network, Inc. (GMA) boosted optimism for a financial rebound at the latter part of the first quarter 2012 after industry-wide advertising revenues tamed down in the preceding financial periods.

In March, GMA’s top line surpassed the record made last year, even as consolidated revenues for the first three months dipped at a manageable level of four percent to P3.002 billion from 2011’s P3.138 billion.

The Company’s net income reached P388 million, a strong start from the heels of a lukewarm closing in 2011, but failed to match or top last year’s P534 million.

Television and radio airtime revenues wrapped up at P2.707 billion, while revenues from subscriptions, licensing, and subsidiaries came in at P295 million, higher by eight percent from last year.

Core business unit GMA Channel 7 led the pack with more than 90 percent share of total airtime revenues; while Channel 11, carrying the country’s number one news channel GMA News TV (News TV) increased its revenue record by seven percent under the QTV format from a year ago. GMA Radio, meanwhile, maintained the same top line level versus the first quarter last year.

GMA International contributed P231 million in the top line, slightly higher than the amount generated in the first quarter of last year, even with the appreciation of the Philippine peso against the US dollar, on the back of improved subscriber take up.

GMA International managed a double-digit growth in subscriptions for GMA’s flagship international channel GMA Pinoy TV (GPTV), which has almost 303,000 subscribers or over two million viewers worldwide as of May 10. More than 117,000 of these subscribers also subscribe to the only Filipino lifestyle channel GMA Life TV (GLTV), which has one million viewers worldwide.

Meanwhile, GMA News TV International is now seen in Australia, Canada, Guam, Japan, Madagascar, and the UAE. It will soon be available in Europe, Malaysia, and the US.

GMA Worldwide, Inc. (GWI), the program acquisition and syndication arm of GMA, continues to penetrate Asian and US television (TV) markets thru distribution of Philippine-made programs dubbed in local vernaculars. The syndicated programs, which are seen either on free or pay TV, generated more than US$280,000 this quarter.

The Company imposed financial discipline measures to maximize profitability for 2012’s opening period. Total operating expenses, which were programmed within budget, rose only by a low single digit to P2.046 billion from last year’s P1.989 billion amid higher production costs aligned with continued efforts to deliver superior programming and additional in-house produced programs in the News TV grid; and increased personnel costs resulting from expansion programs and modest take up in the Company’s manpower base.

Bulk of the general and administrative expenses for the period came from higher depreciation rate with the operationalization of the state-of-the-art archiving software Media Asset Management System (MAMS).

The Company’s earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) for the three-month period settled at P760 million, down by double digit year-on-year, but twice the EBITDA made from preceding quarter.

The Company’s balance sheet, nevertheless, remained strong with debt-equity ratios at zero level. With a debt-free operation, GMA’s total equity stands at P10.216 billion as of first quarter 2012.

On television, GMA maintains its nationwide household audience share margins over ABS-CBN that commenced at the opening of 2011. In April 2012, GMA led ABS-CBN by 6.1 household audience share points, equivalent to almost 1.1 million viewers in National Urban Television Audience Measurement (NUTAM), based on data provided by trusted ratings service provider Nielsen TV Audience Measurement.

GMA also led TV5 by a solid 20.4-point household audience share margin in NUTAM, which translates to almost 3.6 million viewers nationwide in favor of GMA.

The trending of audience shares for the three competing channels in the country’s key areas remains unaltered.

GMA still keeps commanding double-digit leads over ABS-CBN and TV5 in Total Urban Luzon and Mega Manila, respectively comprising 77 percent and 59 percent of total urban television households nationwide.

GMA was ahead of ABS-CBN in Total Urban Luzon by 13.8 points, which translate to 1.9 million viewers over ABS-CBN; and by 24.7 points or 3.4 million viewers over TV5.

In its bailiwick Mega Manila, GMA was ahead of ABS-CBN by 16.2 points or 1.7 million viewers over ABS-CBN; and by 25.2 points or 2.7 million viewers over TV5.

GMA’s lead is most pronounced in the morning and afternoon blocks, where it leads competitors across all areas by margins ranging from 10s to 30s.

The Nielsen TV Audience Measurement used by GMA is also used by 21 other companies including TV5; Faulkner Media; CBN Asia; 15 advertising agencies and three regional clients. On the other hand, ABS-CBN is the only major local TV network reportedly subscribing to Kantar Media, formerly known as TNS.

In Mega Manila alone, the Nielsen TV Audience Measurement has a sample size of 1,190 homes as compared to Kantar Media’s 770 homes. Nationwide, Nielsen has a total sample size of 2,000 homes compared to the lower sample size of 1,370 utilized by Kantar Media.
