GMA Network Continues to Win in Nationwide Ratings this April

GMA Network Continues to Win in Nationwide Ratings this April

Leading multimedia company GMA Network, Inc. (GMA) continued to win in nationwide ratings for the month of April, based on data from broadcast industry’s recognized ratings service provider Nielsen TV Audience Measurement.

GMA improved its total day household audience share this April relative to March across all areas. Audience share of its closest rival ABS-CBN, meanwhile, followed an opposite trend.

Based on full April ratings data (April 1 to 21 data and April 22 to 30 overnight data), GMA posted an average total day household audience share of 35.5 points in National Urban Television Audience Measurement (NUTAM), ahead of ABS-CBN’s 29.4 points by 6.1 points and of TV5’s 15 points by 20.5 points.

Using an estimate of five viewers per household, GMA’s margins translate to more than one million viewers over ABS-CBN and almost 3.6 million viewers over TV5 nationwide.

In Total Urban Luzon, which comprises 77 percent of total urban television households nationwide, GMA recorded double-digit margins over its competitors for the said period. GMA registered 39.2 household audience share points, 13.8 points ahead of ABS-CBN’s 25.4 points and 24.8 points ahead of TV5’s 14.4.

Converted to viewers, GMA had an over 1.8 million and over 3.3 million viewer advantage over ABS-CBN and TV5, respectively, in the said area.

In its bailiwick Mega Manila, which makes up 59 percent of total urban television households nationwide, GMA hit 40.3 audience share points, posting double-digit point-wide margins over ABS-CBN’s 24.1 points and TV5’s 15.1 points.

GMA’s margins translate to over 1.7 million and over 2.7 million viewers over ABS-CBN and TV5, respectively.

GMA’s programming also managed six and eight entries in the lists of overall top 10 programs in Total Urban Luzon and Mega Manila, respectively. GMA’s Holy Week slate was also a commendable winner nationwide.

GMA hit P1.7 billion net income in 2011 amid cut backs in the advertising budget of top multinationals in 2011. ABS-CBN, meanwhile, excluding the one-time gain on sale of Sky Cable worth P1.1 billion, managed only P1.3 billion, P400 million short of GMA’s income.

GMA subscribes to the Nielsen TV Audience Measurement along with 21 companies including two other local networks, namely, TV5 and Solar Entertainment; Faulkner Media; CBN Asia; 14 advertising agencies and three regional clients. On the other hand, ABS-CBN is the only local major TV network reportedly subscribing to Kantar Media, formerly known as TNS.

The Nielsen TV Audience Measurement has a sample size of 1,190 homes in Mega Manila versus Kantar Media’s 770 homes. Nielsen also has a nationwide sample size of 2,000 homes compared to the lower sample size of 1,370 utilized by Kantar Media.

ABS-CBN Tops Primetime in Metro Manila and Nationwide for the Month of April

ABS-CBN Tops Primetime in Metro Manila and Nationwide for the Month of April

ABS-CBN keeps its stronghold on primetime TV, the most important part of the day for both viewers and advertisers, last April, based on data from the global industry-trusted multinational audience research group Kantar Media.

Kantar Media, which has national panel size of 1,370 homes and 7,535 individuals that are statistically representative of total Philippine TV population, reported that overall, ABS-CBN enjoyed the highest audience share in total day among all TV networks with 35.1% of Philippine households watching its shows.

ABS-CBN hit an average audience share of 42.1% nationwide last month, excluding the Holy Week, on primetime from 6PM to 12 MN when most Filipinos spend time watching TV and advertisers put their investments to reach more consumers efficiently, higher by 12.7-points than its rival network GMA’s 29.4%. In Metro Manila, ABS-CBN’s average audience share for primetime reached 35.4%, beating GMA’s 32.6%.

Across other territories, ABS-CBN remains to be the network of choice by most Filipino homes on primetime as it again topped in Balance Luzon (areas in Luzon outside Mega Manila) with 45.4% share vs GMA’s 30.4%. ABS-CBN ruled the Visayas with 55.8% share vs GMA’s 18.7% and pulled away further in Mindanao with 59.4% share vs GMA’s 15.5%.

ABS-CBN’s primetime leadership is still driven by the success of its top-caliber drama series. Its primetime series “Walang Hanggan” topped all programs in Metro Manila, Mega Manila, and national TV ratings. It averaged 34.6% in terms of TV ratings across the country.

Recently concluded “E-Boy” (30.2%) came in second while newly launched royal drama especially shot in Bhutan, “Princess and I,” instantly rose to the third spot with an average national TV rating of 28.8% after debuting last April 16.

“MMK” remains to be the most watched program on weekends and ranking fourth in overall tally with 28.6%, while the 25-year-old flagship primetime news program “TV Patrol” is still the number one newscast in the country with 22.9% in TV ratings.

Overall, eleven out of the top 15 programs for April are produced by ABS-CBN. Other Kapamilya shows in the list include “Dahil sa Pag-ibig” (24.7%), “Wansapanataym” (23.6%), “Rated K” (20.5%), “Kapamilya Deal or No Deal” (20.1%), “Toda Max” (19.1%), and “Sarah G Live” (18.5%).

Based on Kantar Media’s report, ABS-CBN garnered an average audience share of 35.1% in total day with rival GMA Network placing second with 33.7% share.

ABS-CBN registered a net income of P2.4 billion for the full year 2011, while news media reported that GMA Network net income plummeted P1.72 billion in the same period.

Kantar Media, a multinational market research group that specializes in audience measurement in more than 80 countries, has 22 TV networks, ad agencies, and pan-regional networks subscribing to its ratings services. Among its current subscribers are ABS-CBN, NBN, Sky Cable, J. Romero and Associates, Adformatix, Starcom, OMD, PhD, Mediacom, Mindshare, MEC, Maxus, Universal McCann, and Wellmade Manufacturing Corporation. They also include pan-regional networks likes CSM Media Inc., Fox International Channels, Star HK, Discovery, AXN, HBO, MTV, and Sony Pictures Television International.

ABS-CBN shifted to Kantar Media/TNS after filing a case vs. AGB Nielsen Media Research for failing to comply with its request to investigate alleged cheating and data tampering in TV ratings. The case is still pending in court contrary to claims by GMA, which is not a party to the case, that it has been resolved.

Jorge Cariño Works as MMDA Gutter Cleaner for ‘Krusada’

Jorge Cariño will clean street gutters and sewers for the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) to experience how it is to live on minimum wage in “Krusada” tomorrow (May 3).

Jorge will show how many impoverished Filipinos struggle everyday by taking on the duties of a MMDA ‘kaminero’ or gutter cleaner and observing firsthand laborers in a steel factory.

Their job seems really easy but if you were in their shoes, you’d have to be extra diligent and persevering,” said Jorge about his experience.

Join him as he discovers how workers are able to cope with the spiraling costs of basic commodities and provide for their families’ needs such as tuition fees and electricity and water bills.

A laborer for a private company earns a minimum wage of P426 a day. Is this enough to sustain a proper family life?

Because it takes more than words to take a stand, watch “Krusada,” the 2012 New York Festivals Bronze World Medalist in the Social Issues/Current Events category tomorrow (May 3) after “Bandila” on ABS-CBN, or watch it earlier on DZMM TeleRadyo (SkyCable Channel 26), 9:15 p.m.

Edgar Allan Poe’s Horror Tales Inspire Real Murders in ‘The Raven’

Edgar Allan Poe’s Horror Tales Inspire Real Murders in ‘The Raven’

The macabre and lurid tales of Edgar Allan Poe are vividly brought to life – and death – in Intrepid Pictures’ new stylish, gothic thriller “The Raven” starring John Cusack as the infamous author.

The film will be shown soon exclusively at Ayala Malls Cinemas (Glorietta 4, Greenbelt 3 and Trinoma).

When a madman begins committing horrific murders inspired by Poe’s darkest works, a young Baltimore detective (Luke Evans) joins forces with Poe in a quest to get inside the killer’s mind in order to stop him from making every one of Poe’s brutal stories a blood chilling reality. A deadly game of cat and mouse ensues, which escalates when Poe’s love (Alice Eve) becomes the next target.

Also starring Brendan Gleeson and Oliver Jackson-Cohen, “The Raven” is directed by James McTeigue (“V For Vendetta”) from a screenplay by Hannah Shakespeare & Ben Livingston.

When a mother and daughter are found brutally murdered in 19th century Baltimore, Detective Emmett Fields makes a startling discovery: the crime resembles a fictional murder described in gory detail in the local newspaper - part of a collection of stories penned by struggling writer and social pariah Edgar Allan Poe. But even as Poe is questioned by police, another grisly murder occurs, also inspired by a popular Poe story.

Realizing a serial killer is on the loose using Poe’s writings as the backdrop for his bloody rampage, Fields enlists the author’s help in stopping the attacks. But when it appears someone close to Poe may become the murderer’s next victim, the stakes become even higher and the inventor of the detective story calls on his own powers of deduction to try to solve the case before it’s too late.

James McTeigue immediately gravitated towards “The Raven’s” script when it was brought to him by producer Aaron Ryder who previously worked on similar psychological thrillers as “Memento,” “The Prestige” and “Donnie Darko.” “I knew a little about Edgar Allan Poe, but not massive amounts. I really dug the concept, which was a melding of fact and fiction, with Poe in the middle of his own story. The conceit of the movie is what really attracted me to it.”

The director adds, “We’ve always the desire to humanize Poe. You don’t want an unsympathetic lead character because then no one can get into the film. Having said that, I didn’t want him to be a choirboy either. Part of the reason to cast John Cusack in it, was because he has a great empathy with audiences. I thought we could show the less desirable aspects of Poe, but still not have the audiences turned off. You can’t really make a film about Poe and not show these demons, which ultimately created all of the great work that he did.”

He will take her to a romantic place and treat her like a princess just to win her back. But when Janine told him that it is Jake whom she truly loves, Matthew snaps and burns the house where they are staying, saying that he’d rather die with Janine than to see her in the arms of another man.

Chloe Grace Moretz, An Eccentric Teen in ‘Dark Shadows’

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

Chloe Grace Moretz, An Eccentric Teen in ‘Dark Shadows’

Chloe Grace Moretz has emerged as one of the film industry’s most sought-after young actresses.

Last year, she starred in the award-winning fantasy adventure “Hugo,” directed by Martin Scorsese, winning a People’s Choice Award in the category of Favorite Movie Actress Under 25. In addition, the National Association of Theatre Owners just named her the Female Star of Tomorrow Award, presented at the 2012 CinemaCon.

Now, Moretz stars opposite Johnny Depp in Tim Burton‘s big-screen adaptation of the TV vampire classic “Dark Shadows” from Warner Bros. Pictures.

In the film, Barnabas Collins (Depp), an 18th-century lothario, breaks the heart of a heartless witch by the name of Angelique (Eva Green) who dooms him to a fate worse than death—turning him into a vampire, and then burying him…alive.

Nearly two centuries later, Barnabas is inadvertently freed from his tomb and emerges into the very changed world of 1972, a stranger in an even stranger time. Returning home, he finds that his once-grand estate has fallen into ruin, and the dysfunctional remnants of the Collins family have fared little better, each harboring their own dark secrets.

One person in the Collins household who wants nothing to do with her long-lost relative is 15-year-old Carolyn, played by Moretz. Carolyn’s first impression of Barnabas is that he is, in a word, “weird.” And when he seeks out her advice on how to woo a woman of the modern age, namely Victoria (Bella Heathcote), their conversation only serves to reinforce that assessment.

Moretz offers, “My character is a very eccentric teenager of the `70s. She wants to be so different from the rest of the family. As soon as she turns 16 she plans to live in New York and be who she wants to be.

Chloë latched right onto that troubled teenager thing, which I don’t think she is, but she did it really, really well,” Burton declares. “She tapped into that internal anger and the feeling like you’re alone and isolated—that strange transitory time when you’re changing from a kid into something else.”

Moretz previously starred in three very different films, including Matthew Vaughn’s hit actioner “Kick-Ass,” based on the comic book by Mark Millar, and also starring Nicolas Cage. For her performance as the ferocious Hit-Girl, whose toughness belies her young age, Moretz won two MTV Movie Awards, for Best Breakout Star and Biggest Badass Star. She was also nominated for dual Critics’ Choice Awards for Best Young Actor, for her role in “Kick-Ass,” as well as for her performance as a young vampire in the thriller “Let Me In,” written and directed by Matt Reeves. In addition, Moretz won an Empire Award for Best Newcomer, recognizing her work in both films. She was also seen that year in the family comedy “Diary of a Wimpy Kid,” adapted from Jeff Kinney’s popular children’s book series.

She won her first major film role in Michael Bay’s remake of “The Amityville Horror,” in which she played the youngest member of the terrorized Lutz family, with Ryan Reynolds. Moretz’s additional film credits include the horror thriller “The Eye,” and the acclaimed independent film “(500) Days of Summer,” playing the little sister of Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s character.

Moretz has a number of films upcoming, including the indie film “Hick,” in which she stars with Blake Lively, Juliette Lewis and Alec Baldwin; the anthology film “Movie 43,” as part of an all-star cast; and the remake of the classic Stephen King thriller “Carrie,” in which she will play the title role.

Opening across the Philippines on May 10, “Dark Shadows” is distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

Derek Ramsay and Angelica Panganiban Break-up Announced (Now, it's official!)

This news, as reported by Yahoo! OMG, was confirmed by Derek Ramsay himself.

We are in a cool-off stage. We’re giving each other space.” Derek admitted.

But the Kapatid star who also revealed that he and the Kapamilya actress haven’t talked to each other for almost a month, also expressed his intention to sit down and talk with his now ex-girlfriend to sort out their problems if his busy schedule permits.

If things go well, okay. But if not, she will always be my friend.”

Derek and Angelica's break-up came after the news linking Angelica to John Lloyd Cruz surfaced. But Derek denied that there is a third party involved in their separation.

She’s not the type to fool around.” Derek said.

Was Derek's decision to transfer to TV5 causes their misunderstanding that lead to a more bigger problem? It will be remembered that although Angelica said she will support Derek on his decision to transfer, she also admitted that she was not informed when the actor-host decided to leave the Kapamilya network.

Angelica said:

"Nagulat siyempre. Nung nakapag-decide kasi siya, nasa Vietnam ako.

Pero as long as hindi na kailangan ang opinyon ko, hindi ko naman ibinibigay. Desisyon niya yun.

“Kung doon siya magiging happy, dun ko siya susuportahan, kami ng family niya."

"American Pie: Reunion" Now Showing in PHL Theaters

Welcome to the reunion of the Class of 1999 from East Great Falls High. In the comedy American Reunion, all the American Pie characters we met a little more than a decade ago return for their high-school reunion. In one long-overdue weekend, they will discover what has changed, who hasn’t and that time and distance can’t break the bonds of friendship.

It was summer 1999 when four small-town Michigan boys began a quest to lose their virginity. In the years that have passed, Jim (Jason Biggs) and Michelle (Alyson Hannigan) married while Kevin (Thomas Ian Nicholas) and Vicky (Tara Reid) said goodbye. Oz (Chris Klein) and Heather (Mena Suvari) grew apart, but Finch (Eddie Kay Thomas) still longs for Stifler’s Mom (Jennifer Coolidge). And Stifler (Seann William Scott) remains the same as he ever was. Now these lifelong friends have come home as adults to reminisce about - and get inspired by - the hormonal teens who launched a comedy legend.

Completing the core group returning for the long-awaited American Reunion are comedy legend Eugene Levy as Jim’s Dad, Natasha Lyonne as the sexually-wise Jessica, John Cho and Justin Isfeld as the world’s biggest MILF enthusiasts, Chris Owen as The Shermanator and Shannon Elizabeth as Jim’s first on-screen tryst, Nadia.

They are joined by a supporting group of actors new to the series like Dania Ramirez as Selena, the East Great Falls ugly duckling whom no one thought would become so gorgeous; Katrina Bowden as Mia, Oz’s vapid model girlfriend; Chad Ochocinco as himself, playing Oz’s on-air co-host; Jay Harrington as Dr. Ron, Heather’s pompous cardiologist boyfriend; Ali Corbin as Kara, Jim’s sexy next-door neighbor; and Chuck Hittinger as AJ, Kara’s idiot boyfriend.

Directed by Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg, “Amerian Pie: Reunion” is a Universal Pictures Presentation and distributed locally by United International Pictures through Solar Entertainment Corporation.

The movie is showing today in theaters nationwide.

Scarlett Johansson and Jeremy Renner to Star in Their Own Avengers Spin-Offs

According to Marvel, it is definite that "Iron Man 3" and "Thor 2" will happen in 2013 and so with "Captain America 2" in 2014. But what about a stand-alone film for Black Widow and Hawkeye?

Although it is not clear yet, but a spin-off movies for Black Widow played by Scarlett Johansson and Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye could be next.

"All three franchises that we’ve launched so far had to work. If this didn’t work, it [would have] affected all the previous franchises extremely adversely.

There’s also the potential for additional franchises based on how strongly people are reacting to Jeremy , Scarlett and Mark [Ruffalo, who plays The Hulk]." Robert Downey Jr. revealed.
Would you want to see a Hawkeye or Black Widow movie?
