Miss World Philippines Leaves GMA-7 for TV5

Miss World Philippines finds a new home in TV5 as it inks partners with the most aggressive broadcast network in the country.

Following the success of the first Miss World Philippines last year and the 1st Runner-Up finish of Gwendoline Ruias at the Miss World pageant held in London, England, the prestigious pageant continues to move forward for a bigger and more meaningful celebration of “Beauty with a Purpose”, underscoring the advocacy of Miss World in championing the cause of marginalized women and children.

Now that TV5 is its official media partner, Miss World Philippines is set to bring together the most beautiful Filipinas to give them a memorable and once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to present to the world the true beauty and brilliance of today’s Filipina.

With beauty and wellness guru Cory Quirino at the helm, Miss World Philippines begins its nationwide search for candidates who possess the outstanding qualities of a future beauty queen that will give the country a winning chance to claim the Miss World crown which has long eluded the Philippines for 61 years.

This year, the stage is set for the upcoming Miss World Pageant on August 16 in Ordos, Inner Mongolia China where more than 113 candidates from all over the world will compete for the crown that will proclaim the winner as the most beautiful woman in the world.

Miss World prized itself in being the biggest and the longest running pageant in the world, established in 1951 with headquarters in London, England.

Present at the contract signing were TV5 President and CEO Atty. Ray Espinosa and CQ Global Quest Inc. Chair and CEO and Miss World Philippines 2012 Pageant Director Cory Quirino.

“We are happy to welcome Miss World Philippines to TV5 and we will be equally proud of the candidates who will join this year’s pageant as well as our future Miss World Philippines who will vie for the Miss World crown,” Atty. Espinosa said.

Cory Quirino stated: “Miss World Philippines is pleased to have found a new home in TV5 which secures the future of this prestigious pageant and strengthens the hope of every Filipina who holds the dream of becoming a beauty queen.”

TV5 will air the Miss World Philippines Pageant live from the Manila Hotel in late June. The much anticipated Miss World Pageant in Inner Mongolia, China will also be broadcast live via TV5 in August.

K-Pop Stars Join Forces in ABS-CBN's Newest Koreanovela ‘Dream High’

Korean pop stars from various singing groups come together for the very first time to portray the story of six aspiring young talents in their quest for stardom in “Dream High” premiering this Monday (April 16) in ABS-CBN Primetime Bida.

Dubbed as the most successful Korean drama of 2011, “Dream High” stars Suzy of Miss A as Kelly, Taecyeon and Wooyoung of 2PM as Gino and Jason, Ham Eun Jung of T-ara as Angelie, IU as Gelou, and actor Kim Soo Hyun as Marco, who was skyrocketed to fame after this series.

Follow these teenagers who believe no boundaries as long as they can and do whatever it takes to reach for their dream. The dream all begins in Kirin Art School, a popular institution that produces Korea’s biggest superstars.

All of them have different reasons why they auditioned at Kirin and why they wanted fame so badly. For Kelly, this is a way to pay her debts. Little did she know that music lover Marco from the province goes to school just for her after falling in love with her at first sight.

Street dancer Gino, on the other hand, wants to prove his worth to his aspiring politician dad who wants to hide him from the public because he is his lovechild. Angelie, however, has a darker motive as she wants to be the best in Kirin and take revenge on Kelly who embarrassed her during an audition.

Just like Marco, Gelou is also pursuing the dream for her biggest crush Jason, who happens to be Kirin’s best dancer. Gelou would go as far as losing weight just so as she finally be noticed by the boy she fancies.

But like any other stars, they need mentors to groom them to becoming the stars they want to be so teacher Kang and teacher Shih will be there to guide them through.

Will they make it big? How far can they go to reach for their dreams?

Don’t miss the premiere of the most successful Korean drama of 2011, “Dream High,” this Monday (April 16) after “PBB Teen Edition 4,” on ABS-CBN’s Primetime Bida.

ABS-CBN Summer 2012 Theme Song “Pinoy Summer, Da Best Forever” Performed by Sarah Geronimo and Gerald Anderson

Sarah Geronimo and Gerald Anderson literally play good music together as the two sing this year’s theme song for the much-awaited summer station ID of ABS-CBN with the theme “Pinoy Summer, Da Best Forever” to be launched this Sunday (April 15) on “ASAP 2012.”

Sarah and Gerald, together with the biggest and brightest Kapamilya personalities, will show the true colors behind Pinoy summer and share the amazing reasons why it is the ultimate summer destination for tourists and fellow kababayan.

ABS-CBN head of Creative Communications Robert Labayen said the network believes that the beauty of summer in the Philippines is not only seen through its natural resources but it is most evident in its people.

This year’s summer station ID paints a picture of how Filipinos are proud of their heritage and values as reflected in our very own festivals. Bayanihan, camaraderie, unity, respect, and love for one’s self are the prime Filipino values highlighted. Color and joy spread like summer heat, awakening the festivities and making celebrations more alive,” he said.

This year’s summer station ID will show a rainbow brightening in the sky as a group of festival dancers offers a free ride to Angelica Panganiban, Zanjoe Marudo, John Prats, and Melai Cantiveros, Pooh, and Jason Gainza.

It’s Showtime in Guimaras as Anne Curtis, Vice Ganda, Vhong Navarro, Karylle, Billy Crawford, Kuya Kim, Ryan Bang, Colleen, Jugs, and Teddy feast on golden yellow mangoes during a Mangga Eating Contest.

Summer festival parades become beautiful blankets of flowers as AiAi delas Alas leads the festival crowd in her floral float.

Angel Locsin epitomizes the magnetizing Filipina smile as she makes even the killjoys join the festivities.

Cliff diving has never looked more tempting as the ultimate heartthrob, Piolo Pascual, jumps off the glazing rocks to retrieve a friend’s valuable which was accidentally dropped off in the clear blue sea.

Bea Alonzo and plus-sized majorettes redefine sexy as they lead the band with confidence.

Meanwhile, ABS-CBN News anchors Noli de Castro, Korina Sanchez, Ted Failon and Regional News anchors help in the traditional procession.

The theme song was written by Christine Daria-Estabillo with music created by Marcus and Amber Davis.

The 2012 Summer Station ID was created by ABS-CBN Creative Communications Management (CCM) together with corporate marketing head Cookie Bartolome and Zita Aragon. The SID production was supervised by CCM’s Johnny delos Santos, Patrick de Leron, Ira Zabat, Edsel Misenas, Kathrina Sanchez, Danie Sedilla-Cruz and Dang Fortaleza-Baldonado. Members of Creative and Production team; Sheryl Ramos, Love Rose De Leon, Christine Joy Laxamana, Pamela Joy Mercado, Mark Bravo, Christian Faustino, Christine Daria-Estabillo and Shally Tablada.

Jay R. Ferguson, from “Mad Men” to “The Lucky One”

Jay R. Ferguson, from “Mad Men” to “The Lucky One”

He had his break out role on TV's acclaimed drama series “Mad Men,” earning rave reviews for his portrayal of Stan Rizzo. Now, Jay R. Ferguson matches wits opposite Zac Efron in Warner Bros.' new romantic drama “The Lucky One,” based on the bestselling novel by Nicholas Sparks.

In the film, U.S. Marine Sergeant Logan Thibault (Efron) returns from his third tour of duty in Iraq, with the one thing he credits with keeping him alive - a photograph he found of a woman he doesn’t even know. Discovering her name is Beth (Taylor Schilling) and where she lives, he shows up at her door, and ends up taking a job at her family-run local kennel. Despite her initial mistrust and the complications in her life, a romance develops between them, giving Logan hope that Beth could be much more than his good luck charm.

Beth’s ex-husband, is the town’s Deputy Sheriff, Keith Clayton (Ferguson), who uses their young son Ben as a pawn to intimidate and control Beth. It only gets worse when he jealously starts to view Logan as an interloper in his family.

Ferguson states, “Keith uses his position as a sheriff and as Ben’s father to his advantage. He likes to keep Beth in a box with that power. When Logan comes to town, it’s the first time anyone has challenged him without backing down.”

Keith is the antagonist in the film but, as with all great antagonists, you have to feel for him in some way. Jay has a great power and on-screen presence, which is layered and textured so you see a real conflict is going on inside him,” director Scott Hicks notes.

I found the series of interconnected relationships between these different people so compelling,” Hicks continues. “It’s not just the promise of romance between Logan and Beth. There are four individuals whose lives are ultimately changed when Logan finds that photo in the sand.”

Ferguson made his screen debut at age 14 portraying Ponyboy in Francis Ford Coppola’s episodic follow-up to his classic film “The Outsiders,” based on the novel by S.E. Hinton.

Other television credits include regular roles in several television series, including Showtime’s Emmy-nominated “Sleeper Cell,” NBC’s “Surface,” CW’s “Easy Money” and CBS’ “Evening Shade.”

Ferguson’s feature film credits include Michael Winterbottom’s “The Killer Inside Me” and John Singleton’s “Higher Learning.”

On stage, he has performed in Brazilian director Gulu Monteiro’s “A Flea In Her Ear” at The Stages Theatre in Hollywood and “The Good Soul Of Szechwan” at the Electric Lodge Theatre.
Opening across the Philippines on Thursday, April 19, “The Lucky One” is distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

ABS-CBN Regional News Promotes Disaster Preparedness

ABS-CBN Regional News has recently launched segments on its regional morning shows and newscasts that will give important information to viewers on survival tips and how to prepare for disasters and emergency situations.

The move came after a string of calamities and disasters that hit the country in recent months and caught residents by surprise like typhoon Sendong in Cagayan de Oro and Iligan, and a series of earthquakes in Negros, Cebu, and other provinces in the south.

ABS-CBN president and chief operating officer Charo Santos-Concio pointed out that an average of 20 typhoons hit the country annually. She said, “It is about time we plan and prepare to minimize loss of lives and properties.”

ABS-CBN Regional Network Group head Jerry Bennett, on the other hand, believes that the project upholds to network’s commitment in rendering service to Filipinos worldwide.

Getting the community ready for any type of calamity through timely information on TV and radio is part of our service to the public,” Bennett said.

ABS-CBN Regional News head Charie Villa said the launch of the segments was timed in March, when local government units observe Fire Prevention Month by conducting fire drills and encouraging their constituents to make their areas a non-fire risk zone.

Recently, TV Patrol Southern Tagalog in Batangas presented “Ligtas Ako!” that teaches the people in the region on how to prepare a 72-hour survival kit at home. This was followed by TV Patrol Central Visayas’ “Andam Ka Na Ba?” and 15 more segments in local TV Patrols.

The earthquakes and its aftershocks that jolted the southern part of the country left more than 100 people dead and thousands homeless.

Another 5.2 magnitude earthquake hit Masbate City and its neighboring provinces that injured 10 people. Now, it left some residents of the province in trauma.

Zac Efron, ‘Lucky’ to Play a War Hero

Zac Efron, ‘Lucky’ to Play a War Hero

Zac Efron stars in Warner Bros.’ new romantic drama “The Lucky One” as U.S. Marine Sergeant Logan Thibault on his third tour of duty in Iraq. Almost immediately, he is thrust into a firefight that changes his life forever.

In the film, Logan returns home from his tour of duty, with the one thing he credits with keeping him alive - a photograph he found of a woman he doesn’t even know.

The role itself changed Efron, who literally had to transform himself physically and emotionally, to look, move and react like a Marine who had served in a war zone and seen far more violence and loss than his family or peers at home could even imagine.

Director Scott Hicks explains, “When we first see Logan, we need to know what he’s gone through and understand some of the sense of trauma that he carries with him out of this conflict. I was very impressed by Zac’s commitment to not only change his physique but also to get into the mindset of a soldier. He created the slightly stony exterior of someone a little mysterious - a character we don’t know a great deal about at first.

Initially I wasn’t convinced I could pull this off,” Efron recalls, “but the more I thought about it, and the more I talked to Scott, I realized if there was ever going to be a chance to play a role so different from what I’ve played before, this was it. I knew I had to put in the work to be able to play Logan, and I felt capable in Scott’s hands.”

Producer Denise Di Novi says, “One of my favorite things about being a producer is watching actors reinvent themselves, and that’s what Zac did. He just looks like a different person in this film. How he walks, how he stands, how he holds himself…it was a thrill to see him become Logan.”

Producer McCormick concurs, “Even though he’d never done anything like it before, Zac was really able to bring a very specific and unique take on Logan. We literally saw somebody who’s been so youthful in every other movie legitimately turn into a man in front of our very eyes. That really helped make Nick Spark’s character come to life. Apart from looking like a Marine, Zac brought a reservoir of pain and strength in equal measure.

Efron’s preparation to play a seasoned Marine included the physical rigors of training several months prior to production with military consultant James Dever, a retired Sergeant Major who spent twenty-five years in the U.S. Marine Corps, and rising at 3:30 a.m. during filming to continue the regimen. That and a strict diet added 20 pounds of bulk to the actor. To complete the exterior metamorphosis, Efron buzzed his signature hair.

The internal work was equally, if not more, demanding. In order to get into his character’s psyche, Efron travelled with Hicks to Camp Pendleton to talk to Marines and see combat through their eyes.

Efron recalls, “When I got there it was like stepping into a different world. They stood with a purpose. They had laser focus, never broke eye contact. This is my generation, on the front lines. They’ve experienced some pretty gruesome things. We sat and talked for several hours and they were the most amazing conversations I’ve ever had with anybody. In terms of research, it was priceless. I can’t thank them enough. The stories and personal feelings they shared became part of the canvas for Logan.”

We took very seriously what these young guys go through serving overseas,” Di Novi remarks. “Zac respected it, absorbed it, really internalized it, and I think you see that on film. He does a great job in honoring those guys’ experiences.”

Interestingly, a number of the Marines with whom Efron and Hicks met had a variety of good luck charms that they had carried with them into battle. Hicks describes, “One sergeant took out the remnants of what was barely recognizable as a playing card, which he’d taken with him on multiple tours. Once he’d lost it, which disturbed him deeply, but in the most extraordinary circumstances he found it again, quite by chance. The way he felt about it was very moving.”

Opening across the Philippines on Thursday, April 19, “The Lucky One” is distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

Khalil Ramos is Just a ‘Baby Bro’ to Kathryn Bernardo

After being dubbed as the Pinoy Justin Bieber during the finals of PGT Season 3 last year where he placed as a runner-up, Khalil Ramos, will not embark into recording, yet, as his first showbiz project is a role in a Kapamilya teleserye

Khalil will debut into the acting arena as he was chosen to be one of the three leading men of Kathryn Bernardo in the upcoming Primetime TV series “The Princess and I.”

In an interview by Push.ph, Khalil revealed that he went through a series of acting workshops in preparation for his first acting role.

I’m really pressured kasi lahat ng kasali dito ay actors and actresses na talaga pero of course this is also giving me the motivation to do my best in everything. Yung mga feedback naman tungkol sa acting is really nice ngayon. Of course you can’t really take away all the pressure kasi I’m working with actors who are experienced na. Bale this is really my first time so yung first taping ko was my first taping ever rin my entire life,” he said.

Khalil was thankful for his co-star Kathryn Bernardo for giving him some advice in acting.

Working with Kathryn has been so far so good kasi she’s really nice to me. Kahit recently lang kami nagkakilala, parang feeling ko matagal na kasi. Parang the way we’re comfortable with each other now parang friends na best friend. So far masaya kasi on the set. So far so good rin kasi mabait talaga si Kath sa akin, marami siyang binibigay na advice tungkol sa acting kasi this is my first time na sumabak sa acting,” he shared.

This is why Kathryn calls Khalil “baby bro” even though the 16-year-old heartthrob is two months older than her.

Gary Valenciano to Anne Curtis, Jose Manalo and Wally Bayola: "Hindi ko alam kung tatawa pa ang mga tao sa susunod nilang concert!"

Gary Valenciano to Anne Curtis, Jose Manalo and Wally Bayola: "Hindi ko alam kung tatawa pa ang mga tao sa susunod nilang concert!"

Gary Valenciano is set to stage a series of concerts at the Music Museum called "Gary V: On Higher Ground," marking his 29th anniversary in the industry and the 25th year of his company Manila Genesis Entertainment & Management, Inc.

As Gary V consistently inspired his millions of fans through his craft as a singer, musician, songwriter, video producer, dancer, actor, musical arranger and a multi-awarded television host/performer for 9 years on the undisputed top-rating musical variety show, "ASAP", he admit to still feel nervous whenever he performs on stage.

Hindi na bago ito. Dati na akong ninenerbiyos bago ako mag-show. Ngayon pa kaya hindi.

But I'm also very excited because we have come up with new routines and a lot of surprises for this series. I am particularly excited for our opening production number. It will be awesome. I really hope it works the way I envisioned it.” he said.

Gary V also shared why he decided to stage his anniversary concert in Music Museum, a much smaller venue compare to Smart-Araneta Coliseum where Anne Curtis, Vice Ganda, Jose Manalo and Wally Bayola had a very successful sold-out concerts.

Music Museum is an intimate venue. Family members can be together. Parang home venue na rin sa akin ang lugar.” Gary V explained.

He further said “Tanggap kong may mga bagong breed of performers ngayon na kinatuwaang panoorin ng tao. Humahanga ako sa kanila, sa kanilang naiibang palabas. At kung may pagkakataon na isinasama nila ako sa kanilang mga palabas hindi ako tumatanggi. Bukod sa namamalas ko ang pagkakaiba ng aming palabas, inaalam ko rin kung saan ako puwedeng matuto sa kanila. Itinuturing ko silang mga novelty artists. Pero, ako naniniwala na hindi ako magsu-survive sa novelty.

I was part of the Jose Manalo-Wally Bayola concert. Nakita ko how people reacted to them. Kaya lang, hindi ako sigurado kung sa susunod nilang concert ay tatawa uli ang tao sa kanila. Also Anne Curtis. Let her ride that crest, her wave. When she sings people laugh. That’s Anne and for now gusto siya ng tao.”

For his concert series at Music Museum, fans can look forward to witnessing Gary V in his best element as he performs his greatest hits as well as some of today's hottest chart-toppers, party anthems, and homegrown favorites. Fans can also expect groundbreaking and pioneering technology and excellent audio-visuals through their corporate partners Videosonic and Soundcheck.

Gary V will be performing with two world-class musicians, Awit Awards 2008 Best Female/Best New Female Singer Julianne and Juan Miguel Salvador, formerly of Rage Band and now the musical director of Authority, which represented the country in the 2005 Global Battle of the Bands in London.

"Gary V: On Higher Ground" happens at Music Museum on April 12, 13, 19, 20, 26, and 27; and May 9 and 10. The show will be for the benefit of UNICEF and Shining Light Foundation.
