Robin Padilla, Vhong Navarro, Pokwang and Angel Locsin's Friendship Strengthened via ‘TODA Max’

Robin Padilla, Vhong Navarro, Pokwang and Angel Locsin's Friendship Strengthened via ‘TODA Max’

A few months after ABS-CBN’s flagship sitcom "TODA Max" was launched, it didn’t only become no. 1 in the ratings game, it has also strengthened the friendship of action superstar Robin Padilla, hailed comedy prince Vhong Navarro, seasoned comedienne Pokwang and drama princess Angel Locsin.

The four said that in the few months of working together, they have already created countless memories to cherish. Their characters in the sitcom may sometimes have a hard time settling their differences, but their real camaraderie tells otherwise. They really enjoy the company of each other.

Besides their harmonious working relationship, they are also proud of each others’ achievements. Vhong is a now noontime show host of “It’s Showtime.” Robin also embarks on a new teleserye entitled “Kailangan Ko’y Ikaw” with Queen of All Media Kris Aquino and Anne Curtis, while Angel is launching her new movie “Unofficially Yours” and Pokwang recently starred in acclaimed films.

Of course, we’re very happy. We’re thankful to ABS-CBN for letting us explore not only comedy, but also drama and other TV genres,” Robin said.

Vhong, on the other hand, didn’t expect that besides starring in top-rating “TODA Max,” he’ll also be given a chance to host the Kapamilya network’s new big project “It’s Showtime.” He considers this blessing another dream come true.

My dream is only to become dancer. To become host of a noontime show is something I never thought of,” he said.

As Angel’s relationship with the athlete she’s dating goes strong, her bonding with co-stars in “TODA Max” also gets tighter. She said that the sitcom paved way to reveal her funny side.

For Pokwang, if she has her recently built mansion, she also has Beverly Gil’s as her second home, as her co-stars and the members of the production team are like a family.

Meanwhile, in its new season, “TODA Max” will make more people happy, as it intensifies its comedy offering.

“TODA Max” also remains undisputed in its timeslot. According to the data from Kantar Media last Saturday (February 4), it got 13.2 % TV rating, which is higher than the 11.5% and 3.6% of the competing stations’ public service programs.

Award-Winning Film ‘The Descendants’ Intros George Clooney on Parenting

Award-Winning Film ‘The Descendants’ Intros George Clooney on Parenting

Much recognized for his global humanitarian efforts as he is for his accomplishments in the entertainment industry, George Clooney delves into untapped psyche as he takes on parenting in “The Descendants” with naturally gifted young actresses Shailene Woodley and Amara Miller.

Directed by Alexander Payne best known for his work in “Sideways,” “The Descendants” is a man’s tumultuous awakening that might be awkward, comical and sometimes absurd, but nevertheless changes his concept of love, fatherhood and what it truly takes to be a man.

George Clooney stars as Matt King, a privileged Honolulu attorney from a landowning family who is compelled to reevaluate his marriage and life, while his wife lies comatose in a hospital bed following a boating accident. His mischievous daughters don’t trust him, his imperiled wife has been cheating on him and his broke cousins see him and the land trust he controls as a piggy bank. To add insult to injury, he’s surrounded by a lush, fertile, awe-inspiring landscape that defies his inner turmoil.

Hemmings created Matt to reflect a distinct subset of the Hawaiian populace, a generation who trace their births back to the intermarriages of white missionaries and landowners with native Hawaiian royalty and their wealth back to the spoils of the colonial Hawaiian plantation system. As Matt explains, his great-great-grandmother was Princess Margaret Ke’alohilani, one of the last direct descendants of King Kamehameha, who fell in love with her haole (Hawaiian for white or foreign) banker, Edward King, leading to Matt’s current life as a Honolulu lawyer with deep, tangled roots in the islands. Like many Hawaiians, he is a hapa-haole, or half-white, who has never quite come to terms with his cultural identity.

Clooney has established himself as one of today’s leading men, but the chance to play a husband and father in “The Descendants” is a notable departure from his usual roles. This is a man at his lowest point, who has failed to pay attention to the people who matter most: his wife and daughters. Now he is reaping the consequences. But it is also a portrait of a man who is learning and growing. “George is right for the part and he’s a terrific actor,” says Payne about his leading man. “He is a real pro and knows filmmaking inside and out. I couldn’t be more positive about him. He has spent most of his adult life on a film or TV set and he just loves it; that’s where he feels very comfortable and it shows. He is so at home.”

“I think it’s a coming of age film but the guy who’s coming of age is a 50 year old guy. He’s woken up to the fact that all of these betrayals that he feels – from his wife, to his children not really being great kids, to the fact that he has to handle all of these land issues, to the fact that he’s the only adult in terms of his family and his cousin – he’s as responsible as anyone else for being there. Then it comes down to forgiving yourself. That was a big part of the film, watching this quiet man,” Clooney says of his character.

George has never played a father before,” adds co-producer George Parra. “He’s always the powerful, positive, leading guy. This time he has to take care of the kids. He has to feed them and deal with their moods and their crying and their absurdities and he doesn’t know how to do that.”

Clooney on the other hand lavishly comments on the screenplay (written by Jim Rash, Nat Faxon and Alexander Payne) and how it helped him prepare to be Matt King. “I wish I could say I got there 10 days beforehand. I wish I could say I hung out with all these descendants. But the truth is the screenplay did everything I needed. I did some research, I met with the people. I did some of that stuff. People work many different ways. I’m that actor that says ‘Today we go to work and this is what we’re gonna do’ and I leave that at the soundstage or the location when I’m done. And I go about the rest of my life. I have an on and off switch. Where the director helps is with the question, ‘At what level do you want this played?’ Because this is a tricky film to pitch. Pieces of it are almost slapstick funny: running down the street trying to have a dorky run, hiding behind a hedge and popping your head up, that kind of stuff. Then there’s stuff that’s very delicate and very careful and finding how to get there quietly, finding how to get there without much, without seeing the machinery working. A good screenplay does that and a good director does that,” Clooney shares.

“The Descendants” opens February 15 in theaters from 20th Century Fox to be distributed by Warner Bros.

In an interview, Miles said she’s ready for the new role and excited for the project because she herself enjoys high school life.

“The program will really make us laugh, but it will also teach a lot of lessons. Young people out there can really relate with this.” Miles said.

Miles added that she’s indebted to Goin’ Bulilit, where she started doing comedy. “Direk Bobot Mortiz didn’t only train us to be good actors, he also instilled in us values that can be helpful in our careers.”

‘Wrath of the Titans’ Layouts Released

Warner Bros. Has just released new marketing art for its upcoming 3D fantasy-adventure “Wrath of the Titans.”

The materials consist of bus-shelter art individually featuring Perseus and Kronos, and a totem layout featuring the main characters Perseus, Andromeda, Agenor, Hades and Zeus.

Directed by Jonathan Liebesman, “Wrath of the Titans” stars Sam Worthington, Ralph Fiennes and Liam Neeson as gods at war.

A decade after his heroic defeat of the monstrous Kraken, Perseus (Worthington) — the demigod son of Zeus (Neeson) - is attempting to live a quieter life as a village fisherman and the sole parent to his 10-year old son, Helius.

Meanwhile, a struggle for supremacy rages between the gods and the Titans. Dangerously weakened by humanity’s lack of devotion, the gods are losing control of the imprisoned Titans and their ferocious leader, Kronos, father of the long-ruling brothers Zeus, Hades (Fiennes) and Poseidon (Danny Huston). The triumvirate had overthrown their powerful father long ago, leaving him to rot in the gloomy abyss of Tartarus, a dungeon that lies deep within the cavernous underworld.

Perseus cannot ignore his true calling when Hades, along with Zeus’ godly son, Ares (Edgar Ramírez), switch loyalties and make a deal with Kronos to capture Zeus. The Titans’ strength grows stronger as Zeus’ remaining godly powers are siphoned, and hell is unleashed on earth.

Enlisting the help of the warrior Queen Andromeda (Rosamund Pike), Poseidon’s demigod son, Argenor (Toby Kebbell), and fallen god Hephaestus (Bill Nighy), Perseus bravely embarks on a treacherous quest into the underworld to rescue Zeus, overthrow the Titans and save mankind.

Opening across the Philippines in March, “Wrath of the Titans” is distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

Nancy Castiglione - Hayden Kho Spotted Kissing, Vicki Belo Gave Them Her Blessing

They met. Fell in love. Broke-up because of s*x video controversy.

They again met. Reunited because of love (at least according to them). Parted ways again because of yet another controversy?

That's how the love story of Vicki Belo and Hayden Kho goes on and on and one.....ho..hum...!

But unlike the first cause of their break-up where it involved several well-known sexy celebrities playing adult games with Hayden, this time the arrow only point to one direction -> the former sexy singer-actress Nancy Castiglione (also known as Nancy Jane).

According to a report posted at abs-cbnnews,com Hayden and Nancy were spotted earlier this week kissing at a bar in Taguig.

The separation rumor started when Vicki Belo tweeted this message this afternoon:

@vicki_belo - nancycastilogne (sic) you can now openly date @haydenjr . You have my blessings . Hope you'll both be happy"

Which was answered by Hayden Kho with:

@haydenjr - Before things go out of hand: Vicki and I are just having a misunderstanding. Don't make conclusions. There's NO infidelity issue here."

Hayden also added:

I'd like to appeal to everyone to please hold your judgment. There has been a misunderstanding and it's gone out of proportion. I feel that the public doesn't have to get involved in this but since names have to be cleared and this issue involves the welfare of two innocent toddlers, I will have to speak out my piece, but at the right time. Thank you,"

Philippine Television’s Phenomenal Loveteam "DongYan" is Back via GMA Telebebad’s “My Beloved”

GMA Network continues its nationwide domination this 2012 as it produces another high-calibre and optimum primetime offering with the launch of its newest drama series, My Beloved. It will replace Survivor Philippines beginning February 13 on GMA Telebabad.

Leading the blockbuster ensemble of cast is no less than Philippine Television’s most popular loveteam and one of today’s hottest couples in the entertainment arena, Metro Manila Filmfest 2011 Best Actor Dingdong Dantes as Benjie/Arlan, an angel of death commonly known as “sundo” who takes on a human form to save the life of his beloved woman and Primetime Queen Marian Rivera as Sharina, the beautiful mortal who falls in love with a fallen angel.

My Beloved is the very first original primetime soap opera of both stars who underwent not just major makeovers with their looks but also in the characters they portray, something new and fresh their avid fans and supporters should look forward to. This is likewise Dingdong and Marian’s fifth collaboration with the network after starring in Marimar, Dyesebel, Ang Babaeng Hinugot sa Aking Tadyang and Endless Love.

Adding star power to this high-budgeted program is the special participation of one of Philippine Cinema’s highly-commended veteran actresses, Ms Nova Villa. Following her stint in the network’s afternoon prime soaps, Ms Nova lends her acting chops in her very first primetime program as she plays an offbeat role as Lola Inggay, Benjie’s drunkard grandmother. She lost her faith in God after experiencing countless misfortunes throughout her life. As Lola Inggay, she earns a living by deceiving people as a jueteng collector.

Joining Dingdong and Marian are some of today’s biggest names in drama headlined by Paolo Contis as Gimo, Benjie’s childhood friend who is the leader of their gang. This latest project reunites Paolo with his long-time friend Dingdong after playing the latter’s villain in Ang Babaeng Hinugot Sa Aking Tadyang. Meanwhile, Katrina Halili joins the cast of My Beloved as Emmie, Benjie’s loyal girlfriend. Katrina once again stars alongside Dingdong and Marian after playing the famed kontrabida role of Rebecca Santibañez in the high-rating telenovela, Marimar; Marky Lopez as Tikyo, Benjie’s most trusted ally; and playing an equally vital role is respected dramatic actress, Ms Chanda Romero as she breathes life to the character of Elsa, Sharina and Monica’s authoritarian aunt who will make their lives a living hell.

Making this primetime spectacle even grander are two of today’s most sought-after loveteams: the desirable tandem of Jennica Garcia as Monica, Sharina’s protective sister; and Carl Guevarra as Junic, Monica’s boyfriend; and the lovable pairing of Tween stars Louise delos Reyes as Grace, a poor girl who pretends to be well-off; and Alden Richards as Rico, Benjie’s younger brother.

Playing the coveted role of Sharina’s ardent suitor is one of GMA’s hot and most desired properties, Mikael Daez as Nelson. Mikael is all set to showcase a new breadth to his acting skills and make more hearts swoon to his striking good looks.

My Beloved also introduces the glittering roster of fast-rising Kapuso stars including Ynna Asistio as Lizette, Emmie’s spoiled sister; Saab Magalona as Ginella, Elsa’s arrogant daughter; Djanin Cruz as Lucy, Monica’s tomboyish friend; and Andrea Torres as Dessa, Sharina’s bestfriend.

Completing the star-studded cast are the characters known as “Sundo” who will join Arlan in his mission: Jon Hall as Joryl; Fabio Ide as Rowan, and Jay Gonzaga as Mikal.

The story of My Beloved begins when Sharina’s happy life turns upside down with the death of her father, Romeo. Left all alone with nothing and no one to care for them after her mother eloped with another man, Sharina and her younger sister Monica must now live and work under the strict rules of their aunt Elsa and her daughter Ginella.

Life has been unbearable for the two sisters, but Sharina does not give up in despair, and instead strive to get an education through the help of Lily played by Rio Locsin in a special guest role, a kind-hearted teacher who treats Sharina like her own daughter.

Tragedy has struck Sharina’s world once again when Lily passed away. Much to her surprise, Lily entrusted her small business including her house to Sharina. So, together with her sister Monica, Sharina decided to move in to Lily’s house and start a new life.

One day, Sharina sees Lily’s old painting of a man inside her ancestral house. She also gets hold of Lily’s diary and learns of her encounter with a man who saved her from an accident. Lily fell in love with this mysterious person and waited to be reunited with him until her last breath.

Completely intrigued with the identity of the good-looking man on the canvas, Sharina could not get the face of the man out of her mind and it repeatedly haunts her dreams every night. Until she meets an accident and Sharina finally comes face to face with the mystifying being in the painting. The man saves her from death and Sharina kisses him before he disappears.

In the divine realm of angels, one strict rule applies to every “sundo”: that no angel of death can fall in love with a human being. In such case, Arlan has freely chosen to give up his immortal state when he genuinely kissed Sharina back.

Meanwhile, when Sharina wakes up, she searches for her rescuer and falls in love with him. Unknown to her, the man in the painting and her rescuer is one and the same person.

But by a startling twist of fate, Sharina and her “mystery” man’s paths will entwine as she meets Benjie, a playboy and a member of small-time syndicate. The angel Arlan, who has been punished and banished to earth to become a mortal, transfers his soul into Benjie’s body and has equally fallen in love with Sharina. Now, Arlan must live a life of a mortal, and redeem himself to go back to heaven.

As Sharina yearns to be united with her mystery man, she will face many struggles after discovering his real identity as a thief and gangster. Now trapped into Benjie’s body, Arlan must learn how to feel human emotions and endure the day to day life of a normal human being.

Now that the two fated lovers are reunited, how will Sharina accept the truth about Benjie’s violent and shady past as a criminal? How will the fallen angel Arlan cope with his newfound life as Benjie, as he deals with the various temptations and struggles of being a human being?

As the two unlikely lovers enter an earthly relationship, will Arlan succeed in fulfilling his mission of saving his beloved Sharina with his second chance at life, and at love? Will our star-crossed lovers realize their destiny to once and for all be together even in the next lifetime? Will their love story and commitment to be together last till eternity? Is Sharina willing to commit sins for the sake of her loved ones? Will Arlan be willing to go to hell and back to save his beloved Sharina?

Under the helm of Director Dominic Zapata with original concept by RJ Nuevas, My Beloved showcases a beautiful and timeless tale of undying love between two people of two different worlds. It is a unique traditional drama that stands out for its excellent character portrayals and heart-thumping scenes from beginning to end with top notch production values that naturally highlights the series’ many compelling moments. My Beloved is a story of sacrifice and love, of how each of the character lives’ intertwine as they encounter the magical journey of eternal love.

Don’t miss the unconditional story of never-ending love with the much awaited premiere of My Beloved, beginning Monday, February 13 on GMA Telebabad.

Survivor Philippines Celebrity Doubles Showdown Live Finale Tonight!

Survivor Philippines Celebrity Doubles Showdown is all set to name its Celebrity Sole Survivor tnight.

Who among the three remaining castaways – Stef Prescott, Mara Yokohama, and Betong Sumaya – will walk away with the P 3 Million grand prize along with the bragging rights to being this season’s sole survivor?

Recalling her experience in the camp, 20-year-old Stef shared that in Survivor she has discovered something new about herself. “Before Survivor, there are things I thought I know about myself - my favorite color, my favorite food - pero after Survivor, I found new stuff about myself. I get to be more open. kasi I'm always in denial that ‘no I'm a good person,’ pero after Survivor, you'll become open and now I can say that ‘I am a bad person sometimes.’ Mas nagiging real 'yung pagkatao mo with Survivor and I think mas matatanggap mo 'yung mga tao around you because of Survivor.”

Surfer and youngest castaway Mara, meanwhile, said she matured in Survivor. “Marami akong natutunan. I can say that in Survivor, I grew up a lot emotionally. Marami akong na-realize sa sarili ko like for my future. Pero I think the best thing that I have learned in the island is that when you thought you have nothing, you still have God. Dun talaga naging malakas 'yung relationship ko kay God. You'll be grateful with the little things in life.”

Joking aside, comedian Betong shared one thing he learned – that is – to never underestimate one's self. “In Survivor, pwede pa lang pumayat, hindi pala mahirap at may pag-asa pala. Kasi sumali ako sa Survivor na obese at may highblood, hindi pala mahirap. At the same time, hindi ko inakala na kaya palang mag-survive sa isla nang kaunting kanin at tubig lang plus the environment 'pag umuulan, natutulog ka nang basa. Natutunan ko na huwag na huwag mong ia-underestimate 'yung sarili mo kasi may pwede ka palang mapatunayan.

Know who will be Survivor Philippines Celebrity Doubles Showdown's Sole Survivor tonight live at the GMA Network Studios after Legacy on GMA-7!

Academy Awards Best Picture Nominee “Moneyball” Soon in Philippine Cinemas

Academy Awards Best Picture Nominee “Moneyball” Soon in Philippine Cinemas

Nominated for six Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Actor, Columbia Pictures’ critically acclaimed sports-oriented film “Moneyball” is based on the true story of Billy Beane (Brad Pitt) – once a would-be baseball superstar who, stung by the failure to live up to expectations on the field, turned his fiercely competitive nature to management.

Directed by Bennett Miller (“Capote”), “Moneyball” also bagged nominations for Best Supporting Actor (Jonah Hill), Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Editing and Best Sound Mixing.

In 2003, former Salomon Brothers bond trader turned author Michael Lewis, at the time best known for such business and politics bestsellers as Liar’s Poker and The New New Thing, published a book about baseball. Only it wasn’t just about baseball. On the surface, it was about how the under-funded, underrated Oakland A’s took on an unfair system of big-money and powerhouse teams. But it was really about the fascinating mix of men behind a major cultural shift and how a risky vision, born from necessity, becomes reality, when a ragtag team of cast-offs rejected due to unfounded biases, get the chance to finally prove their potential.

Now, Lewis’s book has been adapted into a feature film, “Moneyball,” starring Brad Pitt as Billy Beane, the A’s General Manager – the man who would have to think differently and reinvent the rules if his team was going to compete. “Moneyball is a classic underdog story,” says Pitt, who also serves as a producer of the project. “They go up against the system. How are they going to survive, how are they going to compete? Even if they do groom good talent, that talent gets poached by the big-market, big-money teams. And what these guys decided was, they couldn’t fight the other guy’s fight, or they were going to lose. They had to re-examine everything, to look for new knowledge, to find some kind of justice.”

At first glimpse, Lewis’ best-selling and groundbreaking book does not lend itself to a film adaptation. The book is a study of inefficiencies and oversights within the markets of the game of baseball and features case studies of undervalued items, (players, strategies, tactics), using analyses of statistics and theories. But at the center of it all is Billy Beane on a quixotic quest and as his story unfolds, something unexpected happens. His pursuit of a championship leads to something larger and more meaningful. The hallways and front offices of the Oakland Coliseum become an unlikely setting for inspiration and redemption.

Lewis’ book sheds light on the hindrances of groupthink and how irrational intuition and conventional ‘wisdom’ have dominated institutions throughout history. Challenging a system invariably provokes a fight. The film Moneyball builds its foundation from the experience of one man who chooses to take on that fight. Piercing through the layers of statistics, the film finds the quieter, deeper, and more personal story of Billy Beane, which bristles with moments of self-doubt and real life courage.

Whenever a book is adapted into a movie, there are two possibilities: either the filmmakers stick to the book, or they make up their own story,” says Michael Lewis. “With `Moneyball,’ frankly, I wondered how they were going to do it, because the book doesn’t necessarily have a single narrative or the kind of dramatic arc you usually see in a movie. So it was truly tough to crack the code and get it right and it was an extremely pleasant surprise to see that Bennett and the screenwriters did the impossible – not only did I love the movie, but I was stunned by how well it represents my book. It is honest and true to what happened with Billy and the A’s and what they achieved.”

Bennett Miller adds, “I wasn’t interested in the tropes of sports movies. I’d rather not end a film with a hero carried off on the shoulders of teammates in a stadium where fans are screaming their heads off, champagne corks flying, trophies, fireworks, and all of that. I prefer the quiet triumphs, that might not burn as bright but deeper and more lasting, where you see someone struggle internally and then come out the other side to realize something has changed within them.”

Michael Lewis likes stories about unconventional thinkers,” says Miller. “That’s what Moneyball is – a story about a character whose past and whose circumstances lead him to and require him to think differently. I like that you have a character who takes a risk not just to make something of himself, but more so to understand something about himself. Billy is trying to do something more meaningful than simply win baseball games – only even he doesn’t really understand that until he starts to turn things around. All of a sudden this baseball season, which is a David versus Goliath story, becomes not just one competitive man’s desperate attempt to win games. It’s really a trial, an attempt to prove something that would, if proven true, explain in part why his life turned out the way it did, which is a thrilling idea.”

Opening soon across the Philippines, “Moneyball” is distributed by Columbia Pictures, local office of Sony Pictures Releasing International. Visit for trailers, exclusive content and free downloads. Like us at and join our fan contests.
