Ghost Protocol: No Mission is Impossible

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

Ghost Protocol: No Mission is Impossible

There really is no "Mission Impossible" for Agent Ethan Hunt as seen anew in "Ghost Protocol," the latest and fourth installment of the smash Tom Cruise starrer.

The third "M.I." film might've rubbed off its critical and commercial success to "Ghost Protocol," and Cruise and his co-producers J.J. Abrams (who directed "M.i.:III") and Bryan Burk seem to be more intuitive now with what works and what doesn't. The story in "Ghost Protocol" isn't the most innovative plot in the spy genre - and yes, it wasn't as cerebral as how the first film was noted for - but the heart-stopping action scenes more than compensate for these.

You'd think nothing else can top that iconic scene in the first film in which Cruise got suspended on a floor with motion sensors (something which we'll remember through one of the scenes in "Ghost Protocol" featuring Cruise's co-star Jeremy Renner), or that scene in the second film where Cruise climbed a steep mountain. Well, what could be more death-defying than crawling Dubai's Burj Khalifa (a.k.a. the tallest building in the world) a la Spiderman - but with a pair of electromagnetic gloves? That scene featuring the 49-year-old Cruise will more than likely be an iconic, worth-remember one in recent film history.

That scene is one of those shot using IMAX cameras, making us feel at some points as if we're with Cruise in trudging the Burj. As the cameras follow him looking down 100-plus floors below, and as we see him almost falling after one of his supposedly hi-tech gloves disintegrates, our legs couldn't keep still. And if you really have a bad fear of heights, you might feel like puking.

The action never stops in this more than two-hour film, which finds Hunt with a mission of stopping a treacherous madman (Michael Nyqvist) from releasing a nuclear bomb that could put the human race in deep peril; the latter believes that it is only by sacrificing human lives can world peace be finally achieved. The gravity of this mission may well be associated to the second film, in which Hunt and his team had to destroy a deadly virus before it wipes everyone out.

Agent Hunt is not alone in this mission as he reunites with technical field agent Benji Dunn (Simon Pegg), and works with new faces Jane Carter (Paula Patton) and desk analyst William Brandt (Renner), and of course with the help of their eye-popping, cool gadgets. We'll also find them globe-trotting, from Moscow to Dubai and Mumbai, conquering enormous heights, sandstorms, and yes, even bad, bad traffic while that signature theme song by Lalo Schifrin plays in the background. It's also admirable how Hunt's team kept pushing themselves to their limits especially when things go wrong.

Brad Bird and his writers André Nemec and Josh Appelbaum give us breathers by injecting humor in scenes. While "Ghost Protocol" marks Bird's entry in the live-action film department, his experience in making animated flicks (with "The Incredibles" and "Ratatouille" in his credit) helped further build action and intensity in the film. He intelligently incorporated his know-how, thus, keeping every moment gripping, exciting, and energetic.

Hats off to Cruise, Rener, Pegg, and Patton as their imperfect yet formidable team develop rapport as the film progresses, but are also given enough opportunities to shine individually. The biggest spotlight, of course, is on Cruise. He may not be as young as when he did the first film, but he still possesses the same stamina and passion. And we wouldn't contest; after all, it was Cruise himself who did his stunt up there at the Burj Khalifa!

Expect twists in "Ghost Protocol," especially on Renner's character. It may not be such a breakthrough, but the revelation scene best highlights the humanity among the characters, and how they had to make tough choices for the ones they deeply care about.

Well, Burj Khalifa down, what could be next? Mt. Everest? Not impossible - right, Agent Hunt?

"Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol" is now showing in theaters worldwide.

Jenny Slate in “Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked”

Jenny Slate in “Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked”

The chipmunks are at it again – bringing mayhem, music and adventure in their latest movie “Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked” with the returning cast Jason Lee as Dave Seville, David Cross as Ian with the voices of Justin Long, Matthew Gray Gubler, Jesse McCartney, Anna Faris, Christina Applegate and Amy Poehler.

Stranded with the chipmunks and the chipettes in the island is Jenny Slate who plays Zoe. Upon the group’s unexpected destination to a deserted island from their luxurious cruise – they meet Zoe, a castaway who’ve been in the island years before they’ve arrived. Arriving in their new home is in a way a kind of homecoming for the chipmunks though not necessarily a welcome one. Being stranded on the island takes the Chipmunks full circle. When we met them in the first movie, they were wild – living in the forest, foraging for nuts – and that all came very naturally for them. Then, they became domesticated, famous, pampered, and civilized. Now, finding themselves on a deserted island after all that domestication, they cannot figure out how to find a nut, or forage for anything but room service.

On their first encounter, Theodore mistakes Zoe for a monster. But soon finds out that the monster is a young woman whose island pals include ‘Spalding,’ ‘Calloway,’ ‘Rawlings’, ‘Dunlop’ and ‘Nerf -- respectively, a basketball, golf ball, baseball, tennis ball, and nerf football. She enjoys extended chats with her anthropomorphized sports gear, all of whom have faces presumably drawn by Zoe. The inadvertent discovery of some long-buried treasure adds to the dynamic – and danger – between Zoe and the Chipmunks/Chipettes.

Talented actress Jenny Slate joins the cast as the mysterious island dweller Zoe. “Zoe was flying cargo jets, her plane crashed on the island, she’s been here for years and has become a little crazy because of being by herself. She’s managed to create a family of friends with the objects that she had on her plane,” says Slate. ”Zoe is a really cool adventurous person, but she is definitely feeling the effects of being alone in a jungle on a desert island for nine years. I see her as a combination of rough and tough and incredibly sensitive. She is not who she appears to be. I don’t want to give it away, but she’s trying to find her place in the world and to assert that she is worth something and there’s something on the island that she feels proves her worth.

I was really impressed by the scale of the production. When I walked onto the set, my heart beat faster because it reminded me of those classic family movies, like ‘Swiss Family Robinson.’ And the story – domesticated, fancy chipmunks being stranded on a crazy, mysterious island! It’s eternally exciting!” Slate shares.

Jenny Slate is a former cast member of Saturday Night Live. In 2009, Jenny presented her one-lady show, Jenny Slate: Dead Millionaire, to sold-out audiences in New York and Los Angeles, and revived it at UCB in 2010. Last season, Jenny joined the Saturday Night Live cast as featured performer and created such memorable characters like “Tina Tina,” the doorbell saleslady. Before joining SNL, Jenny was cast in the HBO comedy series “Bored to Death,” as Stella, the stoner girlfriend to Jason Schwartzman. Jenny will soon be seen in “This Means War” with Reese Witherspoon, Tom Hardy and Chris Pine to be released by Twentieth Century Fox.

“Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked” opens January 8 from 20th Century Fox to be distributed by Warner Bros. nationwide.

Thousands of Filipinos Gather for RJR Show in Saudi

Pinoy power was seen in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) recently, as around 16,000 Filipinos gathered to watch the much-awaited show of “Happy Yipee Yehey” (HYY) hosts Randy Santiago, John Estrada and Rico J Puno, collectively known as the RJR.

Most of the attendees are The Filipino Channel (TFC) subscribers. Some even came from the far regions of Jeddah and Riyadh. With KSA’s highly conservative culture, the three didn’t expect a lot of attendees, who are mostly women.

For John, having an out-of-town concert is a dream come true for a non-singer like him. Rico J, on the other hand, was enthralled when fans started to swarm in the car they’re in. RJR sang their hit love song from their gold record album “HYY Nananana.”

After declaring her temporary leave from showbiz due to her personal struggle right now, Rhian also lost the chance to star anew with Dingdong Dantes in a TV series.

And now, after Heart Evangelista - the original choice for the role and Rhian who already shot some scenes for the series, Marian became the official leading lady of Dingdong in GMA-7's upcoming primetime soap "My Beloved".

Here is the statement sent to Showbiznest by GMA-7 Corporate Communications early this evening regarding the reunion project of reel and real-life sweethearts DongYan:

KC Concepcion Signs Contract with Viva, Bids Her ABS-CBN Shows Goodbye (Update)

Flash report: After leaving Star Magic for Viva Talent Agency, KC Concepcion now also bid her two Kapamilya shows goodbye "The Buzz" and "ASAP Rocks". But the mega-daughter remains to be part of ABS-CBN upcoming primetime teleserye "Alta" opposite Gretchen Barretto and Angelica Panganiban.

=====

It's official!
KC Concepcion is now a Viva talent.

KC has just signed an official 3-year management contract with Viva Entertainment, the same talent arm who handles the career of her mom Sharon Cuneta.

Now that KC has moved to Mr. Vic del Rosario's talent management who facilitates Sharon's P1-billion contract with TV5, the possibility of her leaving ABS-CBN for TV5 is not far from impossible given the current situation of her personal life now with another Kapamilya's prized possession Piolo Pascual.

Showbiznest also previously reported (read related news HERE)that Sharon asked Boss Vic to inked a management deal with KC since the latter doesn't have any written agreement with Star Magic and ABS-CBN.

The question that needs to be answer now is: is she or is she not leaving ABS-CBN to get rid of Piolo? Let's wait and see as the Piolo Pascual-KC Concepcion Break-up saga continues.

A woman at a hospital in Diamond Harbor, India, reacts to the death of a relative who died after consuming tainted illicit alcohol. (Rupak De Chowdhuri, Reuters / December 15, 2011)

At least 150 people died within 48 hours of drinking tainted home brew alcohol known locally as chepti (moonshine) which was laced with methanol in the state of West Bengal, India.

Used as a fuel, solvent or antifreeze, methanol is highly toxic, and ingesting it can lead to blindness or death.

The death toll is expected to rise even due to the fact that dozens of patients remained in critical condition in area hospitals.

Officials now ordered a criminal investigation while the government promised to give $4,000 to each victim's family and arrested seven people on suspicion of selling the liquor, although those who manufactured it were reportedly on the run.

Moonshine, or hte so-called country liquor, often sold in plastic bags for as little as 20 cents per 16 ounces, is widespread in Indian cities and rural areas.

Angel Locsin Bares Love Scenes with John Lloyd Cruz in ‘Unofficially Yours’

Angel Locsin and John Lloyd Cruz reunite in upcoming Star Cinema romantic-comedy movie "Unofficially Yours".

But aside from the usual John Lloyd rom-com movie in the past that brought us laughter and kilig at the same time, this time Lloydie will have a daring love scene in the movie as revealed by Angel herself.

Iba siya, ibang story. Usually, hindi siya pinaguusapan, pero alam natin na nangyayari siya sa paligid natin. Very interesting yung topic.Tapos yung love scenes namin hindi naman siya yung tipong nakakainis panoorin. Sakto lang naman po. First time namin pareho gawin yung mga medyo maselang eksena dito sa pelikula.” Angel said.

Asked how she feels doing the scene with Lloydie, Angel replied “Yung makasama mo si JLC, magkasama kayo, may kissing scenes kayo, binabayaran ka, magrereklamo ka pa ba?

As for Lloydie, he describes his character in the movie as, “Ako si Macky Galvez, isang lalaking hindi niya maintindihan kung ano bang problema sa kanya, kung ano bang mali. Pilit kong inaalam kung ano bang problema, ano bang mali sa akin. Tingin ko naman tama akong magmahal, buo akong magmahal. Pero bakit ganoon, puro failed relationships pa rin,”

The actor also opted to described the movie as a sexy romantic comedy film.

Simbang Gabi Begins, Authorities Heightened Security Alert in Major Parts of the Country

Simbang Gabi Begins, Authorities Heightened Security Alert in Major Parts of the Country

The traditional Simbang Gabi or Misa de Gallo where Pinoy Catholics proceeds at churches to commemorate the actual birth of Jesus Christ starts in the early morning of Friday, December 16 and will end on Saturday, December 24, 2011.

Simbang Gabi also beings a nine-day countdown to Christmas Day. However, half of the population of mass-goers are young men who just want to see the girl they are courting, or young couples using the mass as an excuse to meet. In this regard, Bishop Joel Baylon, proposed the installation of speakers and wide screens outside the Church to force young people to pay attention to the sermon. While, the National Capital Region Police (NCRPO) chief Alan Purisima has increased vigilance against crimes that usually proliferate during the season.

On the other hand, Quezon City Police District (QCPD) director Chief Superintendent George Regis ordered his officers to watch out for petty thievery in churches.

Manila Police District (MPD) spokesman Chief Inspector Erwin Margarejo said they would look out for youth gangs causing trouble during Simbang Gabi especially in the areas of Manila Cathedral, Quiapo Church, San Agustin Church, Santo Nio Church in Tondo, and churches in Malate and Sta. Ana. They also set up checkpoints and increased patrols in preparation for the nine days of dawn Masses.

Earlier this month, the Philippine National Police prepared security measures for the yearly Simbang Gabi.

PNP chief Director General Nicanor Bartolome had ordered heightened alert in Metro Manila and Cordillera as well as national headquarters and national support units.

Bartolome reiterated full alert status in Regions 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, ARMM and the Special Action Force troopers following bombing incidents in Mindanao.

Dingdong Dantes Joins ABS-CBN's “The Bottomline with Boy Abunda”

Dingdong Dantes takes the ‘hot seat’ this Saturday in the 2011 Asian Television Awards’ Best Talk Show “The Bottomline with Boy Abunda

Boy Abunda is now certainly “Asia’s King of Talk” as his late-night program, “The Bottomline with Boy Abunda,” was recently hailed as the “Best Talk Show for 2011” in the 16th Asian TV Awards, besting top Asian programs, including “Talk Asia” of CNN Hong Kong and “The Euthanasia Debate” of New Delhi Television in India.

According to Abunda, who personally received the trophy in an awarding ceremonies held in Singapore, he was overjoyed when their show was announced as winner, he could not recall everything he said in his acceptance speech.

I really thought I had gotten used to receiving awards but this one made me so nervous. I was in a daze that I could not even describe my reaction that night but surely it was way beyond happiness. All I can remember was that I proudly dedicated the trophy to my beloved country, the Philippines,” he said.

The 56-year old talk show host also dedicated his latest accolade to the men and women working behind the camera. He paid tribute to the “Bottomline” staff who are all passionate in putting up the ‘best’ episode every week. “In every episode of “Bottomline,” you can ‘smell’ the sweat and ‘hear’ the heartbeat of everyone in the team. Each one of us truly loves the show,” he stressed

Abunda further shared that he was at first hesitant to attend the awards night because of her sick ‘Nanay Lesing’ whom he has been taking care of since the latter was diagnosed with dementia.

I was really confused if I was going to push through. Apart from the fact that I knew we were not sure that we’ll win since we were competing against the big names like CNN, I was scared to leave my Nanay. That was why I asked for her permission, to which she agreed,” Abunda narrated.

“Bottomline”s particular episode that earned the award was that of Maguindanao Governor Esmael “Toto” Mangundadatu’s guesting, which according to Abunda got the nods of the judges because of its ‘international appeal’ as it tackled the highly publicized Maguidanao massacre. He remarked, “There was a unique rhythm and certain rawness in the episode that I think made it a standout. Perhaps the judges recognize that the show is young, brave, and adventurous.

The Asian Television Awards, according to its official website, is “the Asian TV industry’s most significant and celebrated event, recognizing excellence in programming, production and performance.”

Meanwhile, “Segunda Mano” leading man Dingdong Dantes takes the ‘hot seat’ this Saturday, December 17, and answers tough questions from the King of Talk. Get to know what made Dantes ‘visit’ the Kapamilya Network and his experience working with Queen of All Media Kris Aquino.

Join the students from ICCT Colleges and “bottomliners” Mike Lopez, Nini Borja, Gibby Gores, Julian Mauricio, DJ Chacha, and Gabby Eigenmann in probing Dantes’ opinion about love, life, and politics.

Francine Prieto on Dating President Noynoy: "Ayoko sa panot!"

Sexy star Francine Prieto is again getting controversial after dropping an honest, frank reply to a query sent to her on twitter by blogger Professional Heckler (@HecklerForever).

It all started when @HecklerForever asked Francine (@fwancheen) via Twitter if she would go on a date with President Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III should the country's leader asked by her. Francine then replied "Nope. Ayoko sa panot."

This remarks earned Francine numerous comments - mostly negative and below the belt from other microbloggers. Some negative reactions reads:

Peter Katigbak (@StPeterski): @fwancheen Bumabalik lang sayo ang kawalan mo ng modo sa paglapastangan sa Pangulo. Ikaw ang nag umpisa! #ThinkBeforeYouClick

Francine's reply: @StPeterski PAGLALAPASTANGAN BA ANG PAGSASABI NG TOTOO? YUN ANG PREFERENCE KO AYOKO SA PANOT. MASYADONG MAKITID UTAK MO.

...I should not step down sa level ng isang laos na bold star. My apology. I regret it.

Francine's reply: @StPeterski TARANTADO! IKAW ANG WALANG MODO!!!!

...Back to work. My apology kay Bb. Francine Prieto.

Francine's reply: @StPeterski YAN ANG PROBLEMA SA IBA MAHINA KOKOTE DI MAKAINTINDI NG INTELLIGENT HUMOR!!!

...Dyosko.

Melvin Escalora (@lemvin05): @fwancheen hi. Sa pagsagot mo po ba, do you think hindi rin nabastos si PNOY? Which is our President?

Roel Abatayo (@bloggista): Just goes to show gaano kakitid mga ibang maka-PNoy. Couldn't handle a good humor. Si PNoy nga nagpatutsada panot sya, game lng. @fwancheen

fbs34lyf (@fbs34lyf): @fwancheen daming bobo and epal sa mundo Anna marie! Daming probs sa pinas eto inaatupag nila? Pnoy is panot and u won't date him. Tapos.

Professional Heckler (@HecklerForever): i'm sorry francine prieto. i didn't expect this to happen.

Francine's reply: @HecklerForever it's not your fault. may mga tao lang talaga na makikitid ang utak dahil lang sa pagsagot ko ng totoo binastos na ako.

In the end, Francine has this to say to all those whom she believed "can't understand intelligent humor":

DAHIL AYOKO SA PANOT KUNG ANU ANONG KABASTUSAN ITUTWEET NINYO SAKEN?! MGA LALAKI PA MAN DIN DAPAT SA INYO PINAABORT KAYO NG MGA NANAY NINYO!

PAGLALAPASTANGAN BA ANG PAGSASABI NG TOTOO? YUN ANG PREFERENCE KO AYOKO SA PANOT. MASYADONG MAKITID UTAK MO.

In this incident, there are three rules that need to be understand by Francine and those who comment negatively to her decription of PNoy:

1. If you don't like what you read, be calm, stay quiet then click the "Unfollow" button;
2. If you don't like negative comments, go to that person's Twitter profile page then hit the "Block" button;
3. If you don't like both of them, log-in to your Twitter account, click "Settings", then click on "Delete My Account" then dig a cave.

What are your thoughts on this? Are you a Pro or Anti-Francine?

Ram Revilla Murder Case Update: Gail Bautista Furuyama Charged with Murder

Ram Revilla's younger sister Gail Bautista Furuyama and her husband Hiro Furuyama were charged with murder and frustrated murder by Janelle Manahan for allegedly “co-conspiring” with suspects in the murder of Ram on October 28 in their family residence in BF Homes, Parañaque.

Janelle, who survives in the murder, filed a supplemental complaint affidavit before the Parañaque City prosecutor’s office on Tuesday, December 13.

We impleaded them as co-conspirators because even the witnesses are claiming that they are indirect contact with Gail and Hiro.” said Atty. Resty Mendoza, Janelle's lawyer.

Mendoza added that Gail and Hiro are close friends with one of the suspects Ryan Pastera who revealed in his sworn statement at the Parañaque fiscal’s office that he was asked by Ram’s siblings to hire a killer.

Gail now becomes the third sibling of Ram to be implicated in the murder. The two others are Ramon Joseph, who is currently detained at the Parañaque City Jail, and Ramona, who is now in hiding at Turkey.

Rhian Ramos' Relationship with Jeric Lacson, Who Tells the Truth?

On Tuesday, several entertainment blogs, websites and even in social networking sites reported that Kapuso star Rhian Ramos, who temporarily bids showbiz goodbye due to the emotional stress and pressure her ex-boyfriend Mo Twister's revelation about her alleged abortion last year in Singapore brought upon her and her family, is also reportedly in relationship status now with Senator Panfilo Ping Lacson's son Jeric Lacson.

According to reports, Senator Ping has confirmed that his son is in romantic commitment Rhian.

However, in a report by Pia Guanio on "24 Oras", the Senator dispels this report and said that his son is just a good friend of Rhian - no more, no less.

Mo Twister, who also revealed in the past that her ex-girlfriend started to see someone right after after their break-up, has yet to react on this report.

Here is a part of Mo's email to PEP revealing Rhian's relationship status:

"I cannot forgive her family's stance on some of the issues we encountered. I did not appreciate the violent tweets from Rhian's father but I'm glad she told him to stop it. Her new boyfriend has done the same and I too am glad he has erased some of them."

Raymart Santiago and Claudine Barretto in the Last Offering of “Spooky Nights” for 2011

“Spooky Nights” goes full-force on horror in its last episode for the year, featuring celebrity couple Raymart Santiago and Claudine Barretto with Magic Palayok child star, Angeli Nicole Sanoy.

2011 has been a good year for the horror program and it continues to dominate its time slot on Saturday nights. Last December 3 and 10, “Spooky Nights” scored 29.7% and 29.9% household audience shares in Mega Manila respectively, according to overnight data supplied by Nielsen TV Audience Measurement.

This Saturday, “Spooky Nights” promises to keep viewers glued to their TV sets once again with a scary yet heartwarming episode. Set in a small carnival, “Perya” tells of two lonely people who rediscover the meaning of Christmas when they meet an orphan named Alice (Angeli).

Jackie (Claudine) has been fooled by too many men that she has lost her faith in love. Now, she disguises herself as a boyish woman to discourage men from courting her. On the other hand, her friend Jilmer (Raymart) is a soft-hearted man who always ends up being brokenhearted because women take advantage of his kindness.

Jackie meets Alice because of an incident in the carnival that she manages. Upon knowing that the girl is an orphan, Jackie decides to take her in despite Jilmer’s warning that Alice might be a part of an illegal syndicate.

Unknown to the two adults, Alice is worse than a syndicate. She has a very dark past and her desperate need for parental love becomes a psychotic obsession that makes her kill the people who disappoint her. Can Jackie and Jilmer get away from Alice now that she has entered their life and begun killing the people around them?

With Mel Kimura and Tom Olivar, “Spooky Nights Presents: Perya” is created for TV by Director Uro Q. Dela Cruz and Headwriter Senedy Que.

Do not miss the last offering of “Spooky Nights” in 2011 after Manny Many Prizes this Saturday on GMA-7.

Guy Ricthie Hatches More Adventures in “Sherlock Holmes” Sequel

Guy Ricthie Hatches More Adventures in “Sherlock Holmes” Sequel

Case reopened…” Those two tantalizing words at the close of 2009’s “Sherlock Holmes” promised audiences that more adventures lie ahead. Now Warner Bros.' “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows” fulfills that promise, bringing the legendary detective back to the big screen in a new action-packed mystery that reunites the stars and filmmakers behind that worldwide hit.

Director Guy Ritchie says, “I was very keen to return to Sherlock Holmes’ world because the experience of making the first movie was so positive, both personally and creatively. There were a myriad of story possibilities in revisiting this character because he has so many interesting facets. His idiosyncrasies almost transcend description, so I wanted the opportunity to explore that more, while giving audiences something they hadn’t seen.”

Ritchie’s “Sherlock Holmes” had redefined Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s iconic character for a new generation, with Robert Downey Jr. creating his own unique incarnation of the role, alongside Jude Law as Holmes’ friend, partner, and occasional foil, Dr. John Watson.

Producer Joel Silver states, “There was a kind of magic that came out of the dynamic between Robert and Jude as Holmes and Watson, and this film gave us a chance to take that up a notch. In the first movie, we had to give audiences the time to get to know the foibles of the characters. Coming into this movie, we had already laid the foundation, so we could launch right into the action, which is bigger, funnier and more explosive in every sense of the word.”

First and foremost,” Robert Downey Jr. adds, “we wanted to maintain the visceral tone that was part of Guy’s original vision, while presenting Holmes with an even more difficult case, one that would challenge his considerable skills.

That challenge arises out of the threat from a redoubtable adversary, one whose name is familiar to anyone with even a passing knowledge of the Sherlock Holmes canon: Professor James Moriarty.

We needed a mystery that raises the bar for Holmes, so we pitted him against his most famous foe,” notes producer Susan Downey. “At the end of the last film, Sherlock fleetingly learned of Moriarty from Irene Adler. In the time elapsed, he has become increasingly obsessed with what Moriarty is up to and has only begun to realize the breadth of his plan.”

Producer Lionel Wigram comments, “Moriarty is the greatest criminal mastermind in the world. He is a genius - albeit a mad genius - but because he is so brilliant, Holmes may have met his match.

Ritchie emphasizes, “Because they are intellectual equals to a degree, there is the sense that this is a game that is stimulating to them both. In this way, they actually need each other, and that idea is authentic to the books. Holmes needs Moriarty as much as Moriarty needs Holmes.”

As the vastness of Moriarty’s conspiracy unfolds, it broadens the scope of the action beyond the confines of London, to France, Germany and on to Switzerland. Ritchie affirms, “Our narrative enabled us to spread our wings across Europe to expand the topography and tapestry of the story.

Wigram says, “It also allowed us to add a different flavor to the mix that dovetails nicely into what was happening at the end of the 19th century, politically, economically and especially in terms of industry. It was the beginning of the modern age, where we see the seeds of the military-industrial complex, with bigger and more powerful weapons and more efficient warfare.

With a changing world on the brink, there is danger afoot. For someone who knows how to stir the pot, however, there is also tremendous opportunity to grasp untold wealth and power. Only Sherlock Holmes has deduced that Professor James Moriarty is the one stoking the fire…and it is only a matter of time before everything boils over.

Opening across the Philippines in January 2012, “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows” is distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

KC Concepcion Signs with Viva, is TV5 Contract Next in Line?

KC Concepcion Signs with Viva, is TV5 Contract Next in Line?
