Shaina Magdayao and John Lloyd Cruz Breakup Update

Shaina Magdayao and John Lloyd Cruz Breakup Update

Reports now circulate in numerous showbiz websites, blogs and social media sites that John Lloyd Cruz and (ex?) girlfriend Shaina Magdayao has already ended their relationship because of rumored serious jealousy on the part of Shaina who is, obviously, the one trying to be in control of their relationship by getting rid of those who plan to get in between her and John Lloyd before it actually happens - that includes calling and sending them text messages. Boy, you can't blame her. She's so much inlove!

Though it is not clear on who initiated the splitsville or whether it was a mutual decision, the names of Lloydie's ex-girlfriends Ruffa Gutierrez and Liz Uy are being dragged in the break-up issue.

John Lloyd somehow confirmed the news by saying, "To be honest, hindi maayos yung mga bagay-bagay ngayon." But also clarified that there is no third party inlove in the separation. "(But) ako na mismo ang nagsasabi, walang kinalaman si Ruffa (Gutierrez) o kahit sinong ex-girlfriend ko."

Another confirmation was released by PEP in their article this afternoon which reads:

Latest update: As of this posting, Shaina Magdayao has already left for the U.S. for a much needed vacation as confirmed by German Morena who is known to be close to the Magdayao's.

Moreno added that Shaina made a good decision by going abroad to think, rest and ultimately, getaway from the intrigues that have surfaced lately surrounding her supposed breakup with Cruz.

If and when she'll comeback is still unsure.

"Hindi ko alam, pero baka ilang linggo lang siya doon. Ang mahalaga kasi ngayon ay makapagpahinga si Shaina at makapag-isip-isip," Moreno stated.

Claudine Barretto and Raymart Santiago Now 2-Months Separated

The answer to the "lost P-5 million on their joint bank account" (click HERE to read related article) controversy might now be revealed!

After all the denials and going out together on public to prove that they were okay, Claudine Barretto and Raymart Santiago, who got married at the Tagaytay Highlands only five years ago has been separated for two months now.

According to Ricky Lo's Funfare article released today at, it all started last Tuesday, October 25, when Claudince arrived home from a taping, she found Raymart’s several cars missing at the garage. She got very worried. Woman’s intuition, you know. Since she and Raymart were having trouble, Claudine suspected ‘something.’ She called her lawyer and they went to the bank to withdraw P5M from her and Raymart’s joint account.

The bank branch manager told them to wait while he prepared a manager’s check because, they were told, the amount was too big. After waiting for 30 to 40 minutes, Claudine and her lawyer asked why it was taking the branch manager to issue the check, only to be informed that the account had ‘zero balance.’ That’s when Claudine broke down, which was caught by on camera by a 24 Oras news reporter.”

So who could have withdrawn the money? I bet, your guess is as good as mine.

And why is Claudine crying so hard and loud? Kase naisahan sya. Like the old saying (with a modern twist) goes: "Ang angry bird galit sa kapwa angry bird".

Carey Mulligan, Dragged Into the Underworld in ‘Drive’

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

One of the most talented young actresses working today, Oscar Best Actress nominee Carey Mulligan (“Never Let Me Go,” “Money Never Sleeps”) stars opposite Ryan Gosling in FilmDistrict’s critically acclaimed thriller “Drive.”

Winner of the Best Director prize in this year’s Cannes Film Festival, “Drive” will be shown exclusively at Ayala Malls Cinemas (Glorietta 4, Greenbelt 3 & Trinoma) starting November 9. The film is directed by Nicolas Winding Refn and adapted from James Sallis’s 2005 novel of the same name.

In the film, Driver (Gosling) is a Los Angeles wheelman for hire, stunt driving for movie productions by day and steering getaway vehicles for armed heists by night. Though a loner by nature, Driver can’t help falling in love with his beautiful neighbor Irene (Mulligan), a vulnerable young mother dragged into a dangerous underworld by the return of her ex-convict husband Standard (Oscar Isaac).

Mulligan had been a fan of Refn’s past films “Bronson” and “Valhalla Rising” and had even mentioned to her agent that she wanted to work with a director like Refn, but it was only after she expressed interest in the script that she learned who was helming “Drive.”

The actrees’ enthusiasm was matched by Refn’s, who immediately ordered small rewrites of Irene’s backstory so he could cast Mulligan. In the novel, ‘Irene’ is a Latina. Director Refn confirms, “Originally I was looking for a Latina actress. I hadn’t seen Carey’s films, but the minute she walked in the door, I knew we had our ‘Irene.’ It just cemented the love story in a much more interesting way. It made it more of a ‘Romeo & Juliet‘ kind of love story without the politics that would in this day and age be brought into it if you had different nationalities or different religions.

Mulligan explains her interest in the part: “Irene’s character was a challenge because she’s really the pivot point for the film’s secondary plot, which is literally about the love triangle between her, Driver and Irene’s husband Standard but dramatically is about where they’ll all end up in the most meaningful sense. And it’s not an easy decision for her.

Driver certainly seems like Irene’s knight in shining armor, but Standard is drawn very sympathetically, as someone who’s made mistakes but is genuinely trying to turn his life around. Plus she’s loved him since she was 17. So to be able to play those two impulses off of one another, especially after Standard and Driver form an uneasy alliance, gave me so much to work with.”

Says Refn: “Since I was a teenager, I’ve been a big fan of `Sixteen Candles.’ I’ve always wanted to remake that film one way or another and, in a very unlikely way, I’ve done that with `Drive.’ Carey has all the intelligence and charm of a young Molly Ringwald. The romantic scenes she has with Ryan make for a very delicate and beautiful contrast to the brutality in the rest of the film.”

Legacy of Unbeatable Kapamilya Comedy Returns via ‘Toda Max’

ABS-CBN will once again prove its supremacy in producing the country’s best comedy programs, as it presents the latest addition to its distinct and unbeatable Kapamilya Comedy.

The premiere of “Toda Max,” starring Philippines’ hailed “Idol” Robin Padilla, Prince of Comedy Vhong Navarro and Pokwang, marks the much-awaited comeback of classic sitcom which Kapamilya Comedy pioneered.

Robin, the leading man of Kapamilya network’s hit primetime series “Guns and Roses,” expressed his enthusiasm to work with his friend Vhong. In fact, Robin admitted that he specifically requested for Vhong to be casted in the show. “I had my talent fee decreased just to be with him!,” he jokingly said.

Vhong is also excited, as he will once again be reunited with Robin. After their last television tandem in a sitcom in the ‘90s, which paved way to the success of Vhong’s career in the showbiz industry as Robin’s sidekick, the two Kapamilya stars will be working together again in an exciting and refreshing comedy show that will showcase action and light drama simultaneously.

It’s been a long time, and we really miss working with each other. Also, doing a sitcom somehow reinvents me. I’m now so used to soap operas and variety shows. It’s refreshing to be back in a sitcom. Kapamilya comedy will make a grand comeback via this show,” Vhong shared.

Together with “Happy Yipee Yehey!” host, Pokwang, “Toda Max” will be crazy, packed with funny antics yet values-enriched.

“Toda Max” trails the story of a hillbilly named Tol (Robin) whose journey begins when his wife died and decided to take on a new path in Manila. Together with his two children Sandy and Ron-Ron, Tol finds himself living with his cousin Justin Bibbo (Vhong). Justin is an aspiring chef who dreams to become well-known, despite his poverty-ridden life as a carinderia owner.

Regardless of their opposite characters - Tol being firm, serious and brave and Justin is funny, playful and organized - they both did not let challenges interfere and struggle to help each other in raising Sandy and Ron-ron in an unconventional family setting.

Pokwang’s role as Lady G, a poor girl turned-millionaire, on the other hand, will challenge Justin’s life but will soon change, as she meets Tol and became attracted to him.

“Toda Max” is a light and funny family oriented show that will surely make the viewers laugh their hearts out. Follow the story of Tol and Justin and how they will handle the different trials in life.

Our exciting laugh trip is all set. So, I’m inviting everyone to catch the comeback of family-oriented sitcom on TV. You’ll really learn a lot from it,” Robin said.

Also starring in the sitcom are Izzy Canillo, Aaliyah Benisano, Jobert Austria, and Darwin Tolentino. “Toda Max” is under the business unit of Raymund Dizon, together with production manager Cynthia Jordan, creative manager Rhandy Reyes and executive producer Rocky Ubana.

Catch “Toda Max” beginning November 5, Saturday, before “Maalaala Mo Kaya” on ABS-CBN.

Ruffa Gutierrez Reacts to Shaina Magdayao's Interview

Ruffa Gutierrez, on her twitter account (@iloveruffag) this morning, reacted to Shaina Magdayao's interview last night with ABS-CBN late newscast "Bandila" where the young actress claimed that it was Ruffa who started texting her boyfriend John Lloyd Cruz after the Vina Morales concert at the Republiq Bar last week.

Here's the excerpts of the said interview:

Parang sumusobra na, e. Para bang dahil lang siguro nasanay sila dahil hindi ako nagsasalita.

Dahil lagi ko na lang pinipili na tumahimik, kakayan-kayanin na lang nila ako.

So, I figured gusto kong gawin nga ito, Tito Boy, this interview para once and for all matapos na ito.

Nag-text siya kay John Lloyd right after we left the party and I replied. I told her to leave us alone, gaya ng gusto kong sabihin sa kanya.

Ruffa refuted Shaina’s statement and reiterated that she has gotten past well her old relationship with John Lloyd.

She tweeted:

To clear the issue: I never started any texting conversation. I challenge anyone to prove otherwise. That chapter in my life has long been over. I’m very happy with my life and my girls now. I sincerely wish both of them well."

In another tweet, she said:

Please don’t test my patience. And don’t lie.

I warned you not to test my patience and I warned you not to lie. You just did.

There is no cure for the insecure."

Martin Guingona Lamb, the 20-year-old grandson of former Vice President Teofisto Guingona and nephew of Senator TG Guingona is dead after jumping off the 31st floor of Vivere Hotel in Filinvest, Alabang before dawn Thursday, October 17.

SPO2 Crescencio Manuel said Muntinlupa police found the crushed body of 20-year-old De La Salle University (DLSU) student on the ground after the incident at around 2:45 a.m.

Marc, the son of the former Vice President Teofisto Guingona's daughter, Marie Guingona Lamb, was seen coming from a drinking session with some friends at the hotel bar before jumping off the hotel.

Marie, who is on her way from Mindanao, said she was "brokenhearted" at the "accidental" death of her son.

"I am devastated and brokenhearted at the untimely and accidental death of my beloved Marc. As I am on my way back from Mindanao with my mother, Marc is surrounded by his father, grandfather, uncles, aunts and cousins... We are grateful for the outpouring of love, condolences and prayers from family and friends. We, Marc’s loving family, would appreciate to be allowed to grieve in private," she said, in a statement.

Senator Teofisto “TG” Guingona III, meanwhile, asked for privacy for their family over the death of his nephew.

I was informed that his death may have been brought about by personal concerns. We understand that Mark is young and may have been unable to bear burden of such concerns. In times like these, our family hopes that we can mourn, go through and process the pain of this tragic experience in private.” the Senator said.

Sarah Lahbati Gets Lead Role in GMA-7′s ‘Kokak’

This November, Starstruck 5 Ultimate Female Survivor Sarah Lahbati topbills the drama series, “Kokak”, on GMA-7.

Her much-awaited break brings mixed feelings of excitement and a bit of anxiety because of her fear of frogs. Ironically, playing the lead role in the new series means she will be working with frogs.

“Kokak” is based on the popular comic series created by Ruben Marcelino about a frog who transforms into a beautiful woman. The comic series’ movie adaptation starred by Rachel Lobangco and Gabby Concepcion became a hit in 1989.

All smiles, Sarah shared how she broke the good news to her mom. “Sabi ko, ‘Ma, tinanggal na ako sa Time Of My Life. Wala na akong show….” And when her mom asked why she was pulled out from the show, she happily told her that she is going to play the lead role in a new program.

Sarah also expressed excitement about her first team-up with Kapuso leading man, TJ Trinidad. “Mayroon ding nerbyos kasi siyempre hindi kami magkakilala. Pero, thankful ako that we had workshops na nakatulong para mas mag-loosen up kami, na mas makilala namin yung isa’t isa”, added the “Kokak” lead star.

Aside from acting workshops under the supervision of Mark Espinosa, Sarah also followed a strict diet to prepare for her role, which she describes as a little sexy. When she has time, she also tries to squeeze Jiu Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts into her schedule.

Playing the lead role is a big challenge for Sarah but aside from doing drama, “the biggest challenge would be that I’ll be showing more skin than the usual,” explained the young actress.

Also in the cast of “Kokak” are JC Tiuseco (portraying Sarah’s other leading man), Jessa Zaragoza, Gary Estrada, Ms. Caridad Sanchez, Deborah Sun, Vaness Del Moral, Frencheska Farr, Ervic Vijandre.

The creative team of “Kokak” includes Creative Director Jun Lana, Headwriter Dode Cruz, Afternoon Prime Head Roy Iglesias, Creative Consultant Des Garbes-Severino, writers Mitchicko Yamamoto, Ronalyn Sales, Luningning Ribay and brainstormers Gilda Olvidado and Obet Villela. Production is supervised by: GMA VP for Drama, Lilybeth G. Rasonable; AVP for Drama, Redgie Acuña-Magno; and Program Manager Helen Rose S. Sese with Executive Producer Joy Lumboy.

Directed by Ricky Davao, “Kokak” begins airing this November on GMA-7′s Afternoon Prime. Ito ang Drama.

‘Budoy’ Wins National, Mega Manila and Metro Manila TV Ratings

‘Budoy’ Wins National, Mega Manila and Metro Manila TV Ratings

ABS-CBN’s biggest family drama series “Budoy” instantly made a strong impact among audience as it debuted on second place on Kantar Media’s list of most watched programs from October 17-19.

“Budoy”s average individual rating of 17.3% nationwide beat GMA’s highest rating and highly touted primetime show “Amaya” which only registered 11.1%. The series topbilled by drama prince Gerald Anderson also bested its competition in Metro Manila (15.1% vs 11.6%) and Mega Manila (13.9% vs 13.2%).

At first, we were worried about the viewers’ response to our show since this is the first time that a drama series actually deals with mild mental retardation. That’s why we were so happy to know that we placed second this early in the ratings,” said Jessy Mendiola, Gerald’s love interest in “Budoy.”

She further shared that aside from its fast paced story and interesting set of characters, Gerald’s charm as ‘Budoy’ could have largely contributed to the show’s success. ”I think viewers are hooked with the program because of Gerald’s unique charm in playing his character.”

Kapamilya viewers will surely get charmed even more with the character of Budoy as the story progresses with more breathtaking revelations from its powerhouse cast composed of promising young stars Gerald, Jessy, and Enrique Gil; legendary luminaries of Philippine movie industry including Dante Rivero, Gloria Sevilla and Barbara Perez; and seasoned actors namely Tirso Cruz III, Zsa-Zsa Padilla, Mylene Dizon, Christian Vazquez, and Janice de Belen who makes a comeback in the Kapamilya network.

Under the direction of Ruel S. Bayani and Tots Sanchez-Mariscal, “Budoy” airs weeknights, after “100 Days to Heaven” on ABS-CBN Primetime Bida. For more updates, log on to, follow @budoy_tv on Twitter, and “like”

Cristine, who is now hailed as one of the best actresses of her generation, further shared that the key to the success of “Reputasyon” is the story itself and the fine acting of its cast.

Darkest Human Behaviors Explored in “Straw Dogs”

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

In Columbia Pictures' new suspense thriller “Straw Dogs,” a Hollywood screenwriter (James Marsden) and his actress wife (Kate Bosworth), return to her small hometown in the deep South to prepare the family home for sale after her father’s death. Once there, tensions build in their marriage and old conflicts re-emerge with the locals, including the wife's ex-boyfriend (Alexander Skarsgård), leading to a violent confrontation.

Directed and screenplay by Rod Lurie, the film is based on the 1971 movie of the same title written by David Zelag Goodman and Sam Peckinpah who adapted the novel The Siege of Trencher’s Farm by Gordon Williams.

When Rod Lurie set about the task of revisiting Peckinpah’s controversial 1971 film “Straw Dogs,” foremost in their minds was capturing the scary intensity of the story and its exploration of the darkest human behavior, but also reconfiguring its horrific contours for the realities and moviegoing sensibilities of a new generation.

Peckinpah had a very definite point of view of human beings and how they behaved,” says Lurie, of the original film’s shocking violence. “He was very much a pessimist, and I believe I’m an optimist. So I thought it might be an interesting experiment to see whether or not you can do the same story, but tell it from a different point of view.

Working more from Gordon William’s novel, The Siege of Trencher’s Farm than from Peckinpah’s film, Lurie felt that updating the story and bringing its special psychological terror into the classic American setting of a small Southern town - where life was ruled by how the football team performed on Friday night and the townspeople’s roles were a clearly defined hierarchy - would bring a modern edge to what is at heart a powerful and ultimately terrifying examination of a relationship being incomprehensibly tested and torn apart.

Lurie then set about regrounding everything in William’s novel, shifting the location to a small fictional Southern town steeped in traditions of brutality, and transforming the characters into roles within that classic American setting.

It’s not so much that it’s the South,” explains Lurie. “What I wanted to define was a culture where violence was a part of their everyday life, where they’re hunting, where there’s football – which I adore – and where their people solve things through fights. Where machismo rules.”

One thing Lurie insisted should not change, was the central core of the story’s menacing buildup, which forces a reluctant hero to use violence in order to defend his wife, his property and both of their lives – and whether after being shattered, his marriage could ever be rebuilt.

Opening soon across the Philippines, “Straw Dogs” is distributed by Columbia Pictures, local office of Sony Pictures Releasing International. Visit to see the latest trailers, get free downloads and play free movie games. Like us at and join our fan contests.

Amanda Seyfried Breaks Norms ‘In Time’

Posted by JED on , under | comments (1)

In the futuristic thriller “In Time,” Justin Timberlake and Amanda Seyfried thrive in a society where time is money and for the poor there is never enough of it.

Everybody stops ageing at 25; each person has a genetically engineered body clock which begins to tick once the ageing gene has switched off. The dystopian world created by Andrew Niccol is corrupt and unjust. For the poor it is a daily battle to acquire enough time to stay alive. The rich on the other hand have centuries and can potentially live forever.

Very relative to a youth-obsessed culture and taking that concept to the next very ominous level, “In Time” explores an unjust and corrupt world where the select few can stay young and live forever while the rest of the population die young, unless against all odds they find a way of gaining more time.

Seyfried’s Sylvia Weis is a privileged heiress bored with her life in the mansion where she lives with her family. She meets Will Salas (Justin Timberlake) a struggling worker who has come into time, a lot of it and has made his way into the zone populated by the wealthy, who have more than enough time to idle away the decades. Will has been wrongly accused of murder. He takes Sylvia hostage and the pair find themselves running from the law. Together they embark on a dangerous but thrilling journey, racing against time in a bid to destroy the corrupt system and power structure at its heart.

While Sylvia may become someone who inspires Will to take up the fight, she certainly does not start out that way. The nascent darker side of Sylvia was something Seyfried could bring to the fore. “Sylvia dreads her life every day,” reveals Amanda Seyfried. “She wants to have some kind of adventure. In a world like this, you spend so much time trying to protect your life that you don’t really end up living. Everybody has bodyguards. They all eat very well, but very little, they don’t drink or smoke; it’s mundane. Sylvia just isn’t made for this kind of life. She gets her wish for a different life when Will takes her away.”

Will’s first appearance in the richest time zone is telling. He is clearly out of place, but there is something unmistakably attractive about him, at least for Sylvia. Seyfried continues, “He comes into New Greenwich and in walks this almost larger-than-life guy. Once Will and Sylvia get to Dayton, everybody runs, because they’re fighting time. Everyone moves so fast, but there’s a sense of excitement there, and it’s liberating because they live day-to-day. You’re wired differently there. What’s important is the now.”

In addition to the journey of Sylvia, Seyfried was attracted to many of the things that captured Timberlake’s imagination about the world Niccol had created. “Andrew’s one of a kind, and I wanted to be a part of this. It’s so very different, but at the same time, it has so many parallels to the way we live, which is why it’s so smart. And I have to admit, getting to hold a gun and kick some butt also sounded like a blast.”

Initially appearing in television series “The World Turns” and “All My Children,” it was Amanda’s first film role in “Mean Girls (2004) that catapulted her to international stardom. Her film credits include “Alpha Dog,” “Letters To Juliet,” “Dear John,” “Chloe,” “Red Riding Hood,” “Jennifer’s Body” and the huge hit, “Mamma Mia.”

“In Time” opens October 28 in theaters nationwide and in select 2D digital screens – Metro Manila, Cebu, Dvao, Iloilo, Cagayan De Oro, Batangas, Bacolod, Pampanga, Tarlac, BAguio, GenSan, Laguna, Bulacan and Bohol.
