Akiro Verano, former singer-actor and co-host in German Moreno's late-night weekend show "Walang Tulugan with the Master Showman", is now full-pledged woman bearing the name Zyrene Mae Verano.

Zyrene, who recently won as Miss Gay Philippines-World 2011, admits to taking hormonal pills to enhance her femininity even further. “Para maging babaing-babae ang boses ko, at ang lambot ng katawan ko,” she said, adding “Umiinom din po ako ng glutathione para pumuti ako. Hanggang sa nagkaroon po ako ng lakas ng loob na ipaalam sa kanilang lahat at binuksan naman po talaga nila pa ra sa akin yung welcome po ng family,” she said in an interview.

Paulo Avelino and KC Concepcion Portray as Married Couple in MMK

For the first time on television, KC Concepcion plays the role of a wife and mother in a 'period' episode of Maalaala Mo Kaya this Saturday, October 22, as part of the TV drama anthology's month-long 20th anniversary celebration.

With new Kapamilya leading man Paulo Avelino playing as her husband Romy, KC will breathe to life the character of Aurora, a strong-willed woman who stood by the man she loved and worked hard just to make her dreams for her family happen.

According to Paulo, working with in KC in MMK was memorable. When he accepted the offer, he had no idea at first that he would be playing opposite KC.

So when I learned that KC Concepcion is the lead star, I carefully studied the script and really prepared for all our scenes," said Paulo. "Before I met KC, I thought she was 'unreachable' because she is the 'Mega daughter.' But when I got to work with her, I learned that she is easy to get along with. For three days during our taping, laughing at random jokes became our 'bonding moment in the set."

Paulo also shared that he is thankful that he was given the chance to take part in the 20th anniversary celebration of MMK. He said, "I'm a fan of MMK since I was a kid. So it's a great privilege that now I can say that I've been part of the show that I grew up watching."

Also starring Dina Bonnevie, Johnny Revilla, Vangie Labalan, and Nanding Josef, this week's episode chronicles the life story of a woman who empowered herself by making her dreams happen. It is directed by Jerry Lopez Sineneng and written by Rose Colindres.

Maalaala Mo Kaya airs Saturday at 7:45 p.m., after Junior Master Chef Pinoy Edition on ABS-CBN.

Charice 'Louder' Official Music Video Released

Charice has just released the official music video of her single "Louder", out now on iTunes.

Louder [x4]

I'm staring out of my window
And the rain is pouring down
When you left, I was so low
But I'm not gonna drown

I don't need no shoulder
I'm gonna be a soldier
I just wanna feel somethin' I don't understand

I'm just gonna run right through the rain
I'm just gonna dance right through the pain
I just wanna feel that rhythm, feel that drum
Let my heart beat louder
Let my heart speak louder than my head (head, head, head)
Heart beat louder than my head (head, head, head)
Heart speak louder
Wanna feel that rhythm, feel that drum
Let my heart beat louder
Let my heart speak louder than my head

I, I am over overthinking of how to get you back
I'm checking out for the weekend
And I ain't going back

I don't need no shoulder
I'm gonna be a soldier
I just wanna feel somethin' I don't understand

I'm just gonna run right through the rain
I'm just gonna dance right through the pain
I just wanna feel that rhythm, feel that drum
Let my heart beat louder
Let my heart speak louder than my head (head, head, head)
Heart beat louder than my head (head, head, head)
Heart speak louder
Wanna feel that rhythm, feel that drum
Let my heart beat louder
Let my heart speak louder than my head

Oh, letting go
Yet it feel so good, so right
Oh, all I know
Is that I let my heart beat
Heart speak louder than my louder than my
Heart beat heart speak louder than my louder than my
Heart beat heart speak louder than my louder than my louder, louder, louder, louder

I'm just gonna run right through the rain
I'm just gonna dance right through the pain
I just wanna feel that rhythm, feel that drum
Let my heart beat louder

Ryan Gosling Takes You for a Spin in “Drive”

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

Fresh from the commercial and critical success of his first-ever romantic comedy “Crazy, Stupid, Love,” Ryan Gosling now returns to the psychological thriller genre with the Cannes Film Festival winner, “Drive.”

Winner of the Best Director award at this year's Cannes, “Drive” will be shown soon exclusively at Ayala Malls Cinemas (Glorietta 4, Greenbelt 3 & Trinoma). The film is directed by Nicolas Winding Refn and adapted from James Sallis's 2005 novel of the same name.

In the film, Driver (Gosling) is a Los Angeles wheelman for hire, stunt driving for movie productions by day and steering getaway vehicles for armed heists by night. Though a loner by nature, Driver can't help falling in love with his beautiful neighbor Irene (Carey Mulligan), a vulnerable young mother dragged into a dangerous underworld by the return of her ex-convict husband Standard (Oscar Isaac).

I was really intrigued by the role of Driver because the performance demanded this very complex dramatic counterpoint,” Gosling explains. “On the one hand, he's really self-contained, really laconic. There's an economy of movement in the way he carries himself, an economy of words in the way he speaks. He keeps his cards close to his chest and there's an almost poker-faced inscrutability to his reactions. All of which ties into his character, because this is the kind of mechanical self-control he achieves in the flow-situation of driving. [Director] Nic kept saying to me, 'The Driver is half-man, half-machine.'

On the other hand,” Gosling continues, “Driver is literally psychotic, you know? A Travis Bickle, Taxi Driver-kind of character. Beneath all of that eerie outward calm, there is this reservoir of raging energy and hair-trigger violence. It's like when you're cruising in an automobile and the ride feels so smooth, so stable, so safe - then another car crosses your path. BAM. All that energy, all that mass-times-velocity momentum, is released in a flash of physical violence. And that's basically the character of Driver. He navigates around most obstacles with some very flawless trick-driving, literally and figuratively escaping without a scratch. But when the moment of impact unexpectedly arrives, it is violent and it physically slams you. The challenge is making the audience feel that tightly-coiled energy when Driver is ticking along as smoothly as a stopwatch.

Ryan is a real rarity,” says director Nicolas Winding Refn. “He has the charisma and good looks of a leading man and the gravity of a Method-trained, master class performer. For the role of Driver, the film needed an actor who could convey the explosive violence and emotional loneliness of that lone-wolf character, yet also make his personal transformation through love authentic and believable. Few movie stars have that range. Ryan is one of them.”

"Paranormal Activity 3" Goes Back in Time to Show Origins of Haunting

Posted by JED on Tuesday, October 18, 2011 , under | comments (0)

In 1988, young sisters Katie and Kristi encounter an invisible entity haunting their home. Although it appears friendly, it turns hostile, tormenting the young girls and their family.

A scene near the start of the film, which is based before the second film, features Katie bringing over a box of video tapes to the home of her sister Kristi and after leaving Kristi starts to sort through some of tapes, being filmed by her husband Daniel.

Almost three years ago on September 25th, 2009, a small film was released to a limited amount of theatres. The film quickly gained steam as it headed to campuses around the country.

Landing at The University of Lincoln's Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center was Paranormal Activity.

The small-budget film with the estimated budget of around $15,000 eventually grossed $107 million. The film capitalizes on hand-held footage pioneered by 1999's The Blair Witch Project and a formulaic plot set to scare its viewers.

The film utilizes quick movements and loud noises to cause audience members to jump, scream, and occasionally cry. Never before had a film affected so many people who were collectively scared and unafraid to show it. Never was it observed that a small film was able to garner an audience this well. The horror genre has lent itself to be the safe haven for this type of relationship between small film and audience. Thus, there was something different about Paranormal Activity.

The latest movie, Paranormal Activity 3, reveals what transpired in much (if not all) of the action 18 years before the events depicted in the first two movies - showing that Katie and Kristi may ultimately be responsible for inviting the demon into their lives by playing around with the occult as children. In the first TV spot released for the movie, we see the girls playing the childhood game "Bloody Mary" and actually summoning... something.

Paranormal Activity 3 starring Katie Featherston, Sprague Grayden, Lauren Bittner, Mark Fredrichs, Brian Boland, Christopher Nicholas Smith, Chloe Csengery, and Jessica Tyler Brown is directed by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman and is distributed locally by United International Pictures thru Solar Entertainment Corporation.

The film will be shown in cinemas starting October 21, 2011.

“Happy Feet 2” Dances Away to the Big Screen

Director George Miller wasn't looking to make back-to-back cartoons about the environmentally fragile residents of Antarctica. But Mother Nature can be a wicked executive producer, Miller has learned.

"I was all set to do another `Mad Max’ in Australia," he says. "And it kept raining. And raining. And raining. After about 12 months, we decided to do `Happy Feet 2’ instead."

Miller, a chameleon director whose credits include the `Mad Max’ series, the `Babe’ franchise and now the `Happy Feet’ story, says he plans to return to the post-apocalyptic world of `Mad Max’ when he's done with the pre-apocalyptic world of `Happy Feet 2’ in 3-D.

The movie, starring the voices of Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Robin Williams and Elijah Wood as rug-cutter Mumble, centers on Mumble being a new father while still navigating the perilous ice world around him, which is melting frighteningly fast. "Climate change is why we're doing this movie now," Miller says. "The desert we wanted to shoot in in Australia? It's covered in flowers."

The first film, a 2006 surprise hit at $190 million, was initially to be shot in 3-D, Miller says. "But we simply ran out of time. This one is shot in 3-D, and the landscapes we could create are just spectacular."

Where the first film followed Mumble "from infancy to adulthood, now we see him as a parent," Miller says. "But it could be any of us. He's trying to figure out how to be a parent to his little son in a world that's changing way too rapidly."

Miller says he enjoys animation. But the director of `Dead Calm’ and `Lorenzo's Oil’ also looks forward to destruction. He's built more than 150 cars that he plans to destroy for `Mad Max: Fury Road,’ the continuation of his dystopian hellscape, this time starring Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron. It's scheduled for a 2012 release.

But there's one benefit to making kids' movies that you just don't get from carving people up on highways, Miller says. "One of my favorite things about making `Happy Feet’ was sneaking into the theater to watch the kids," he says. "I can see the parents are getting the other messages, but the kids are just lost in the dancing and the little animals. They'll dance in the aisles. What filmmaker doesn't dream to see that kind of thing?"

Opening soon across the Philippines in IMAX 3D, 2D and regular theaters, “Happy Feet 2” is distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

Albert Martinez Talks About His Wife's New Battle with Cancer

Albert Martinez had a shocking revelations when he guested live on "The Buzz" last Sunday, October 16.

Albert was not able to hold back his emotions when asked to talk about the health of his wife, Liezl.

We experienced another setback na akala namin okay na. Nag-recur yung big letter C,” Albert started to share.

The actor-director said his whole world shattered when he learned about Liezl’s condition.

Again gumuho na naman ang mundo ko. For the past 2 years, akala ko okay na. We’re having plans again of 'we want this, we want that, we’ll go here, we’ll go there.' And then all of a sudden, nangyari ulit iyon. Parang what’s going on? Nag-stop lahat. It’s harder the second time around to put the pieces together. Parang ito na ba iyon? Is there any hope,” he continued.

Albert said he has been praying harder now and is hoping Liezl will be well and all of them could recover from all that is happening.

Asked how much he loves his wife now, Martinez said: “Nothing changed. It’s just hard na yung plinano namin to grow old together na simple and all that, medyo na-derail ng konti. We just have to find ways around.”

Meanwhile, the actor vowed he will do everything in his power to help Liezl.

Whatever is happening right now, it’s just a bump on the road and we’re gonna fight it together. It’s going to be a group thing. You’re not alone. I’ll always be here,” he said.

We’ll make sure that whatever’s available out there in the market that can help you, we will do that, because you are more important than anything else in the world,” Martinez added.

Liezl was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer in 2007. She was given a clean bill of health in 2010.

Justin Bieber's New Song, Video for “Arthur Christmas”

Posted by JED on , under | comments (0)

Santa Claus is coming to town – and this year, he’s getting a little help from Justin Bieber, Aardman Animations, and Sony Pictures Animation.

When “Arthur Christmas,” the 3D, CG-animated movie from Aardman for Sony Pictures Animation and Columbia Pictures, rolls into Philippine theaters on December, Bieber’s rendition of “Santa Claus Is Comin’ To Town,” from his new Christmas album “Under The Mistletoe,” will play over the end credits. In addition, before the movie, moviegoers will see the exclusive music video for the song, which will premiere in theaters only with “Arthur Christmas.” The video will be inspired by the movie and feature footage from the film.

In addition, the album’s debut single, “Mistletoe,” will be heard in select TV spots for “Arthur Christmas.” Bieber’s holiday album, “Under The Mistletoe,” is a seasonal mix of traditional Christmas standards with newly-penned holiday music largely co-written by Justin. The CD is available everywhere November 1st.

Commenting on the announcement, Lia Vollack, President, Worldwide Music for Sony Pictures, said, “It was important to us to have a song that connected with the film’s themes – and you couldn’t ask for a better match than ‘Santa Claus Is Comin’ To Town’ – but our choice was about much more than that. We saw an opportunity to give our moviegoers a tremendous added value with a brand-new music video premiering in theaters. We had a great experience working with Justin on `The Karate Kid,' so we’re thrilled to be working with him again and premiering his new video with our movie – it’s a perfect fit for our movie’s core audience.”

The 3D, CG-animated family comedy “Arthur Christmas” at last reveals the incredible, never-before-seen answer to every child's question: “So how does Santa deliver all those presents in one night?” The answer: Santa's exhilarating, ultra-high-tech operation hidden beneath the North Pole. But at the heart of the film is a story with the ingredients of a Christmas classic – a family in a state of comic dysfunction and an unlikely hero: Santa’s youngest son, Arthur. When this amazing operation misses one child out of hundreds of millions, the least capable Claus embarks on a hilarious, exciting rogue mission against the clock to deliver the last present before Christmas morning dawns.

Directed by Sarah Smith, the film features the voices of James McAvoy, Hugh Laurie, Jim Broadbent, Bill Nighy, Imelda Staunton, and Ashley Jensen.

Opening across the Philippines in December, “Arthur Christmas” is distributed by Columbia Pictures, local office of Sony Pictures Releasing International. Visit www.sonypictures.com.ph to see the latest trailers, get free downloads and play free movie games.

Zachary Quinto Comes Out as Gay

Zachary Quinto Comes Out as Gay

Zachary Quinto, who played Sylar on Heroes and Spock in Star Trek, finally came out and admitted that he is as a gay man.

The 34-year-old actor, spoke to New York magazine about his eight month stint in Angels in America, saying, “as a gay man, it made me feel like there’s still so much work to be done, and there’s still so many things that need to be looked at and addressed.”

Zachary also spoke about the current cultural bipolarity toward the gay community, from gaining acceptance for gay marriage to teens being bullied and committing suicide.

And again, as a gay man I look at that and say there’s a hopelessness that surrounds it, but as a human being I look at it and say ‘Why? Where’s this disparity coming from, and why can’t we as a culture and society dig deeper to examine that?’ We’re terrified of facing ourselves,” Zachary said.
