Julia Montes and Enchong Dee Snubbing Incident at Star Magic Olympics

Julia Montes, the star of Star Cinema's latest movie, “Way Back Home,” and her rumored boyfriend Enchong Dee were seen ignoring each other at the recently held Star Magic Olympics.

When asked by the press present to cover the event, Enchong denied he is avoiding being caught on cam with the young actress.

"Hindi. Walang ganun. Iba kase yung game nya." Enchong said.

Meanwhile, Julia said there is no reason why she should ignore Enchong,

"Walang dedmahan naman na nangyayari. We're okay. No reason for that." Julia clarified.

It is understandable that because Enchong's newest primetime teleserye "Maria la del Barrio" opposite Erich Gonzales and Julia's latest pairing with Sam Concepcion in the movie "Way Back Home" are about to premiere, it is but proper for the two not to be seen sharing sweet moments together.

Katy Perry Breathes Life to Smurfette in “The Smurfs”

A global music superstar who has sold over 8 million albums and almost 60 million songs and videos in the past three years, Katy Perry crosses over the big screen to provide the voice of Smurfette in Columbia Pictures' and Sony Pictures Animation’s hybrid live-action and animated family comedy, “The Smurfs.”

When the evil wizard Gargamel chases the Smurfs out of their village, through a magical portal, and into our world, they land in the middle of New York’s Central Park. Just three apples high and stuck in the Big Apple, the Smurfs must find a way to get back to their village before Gargamel tracks them down.

There’s something special about Smurfette. Whether it’s her beauty, sweet voice, charming personality, or just the fact that she is the ONLY girl among 100 boys, she just makes the other Smurfs go absolutely gaga. Originally created by Gargamel to trap the other Smurfs, Papa Smurf’s magic saved her and transformed her into a real Smurf. With a smart, savvy attitude, she’ll prove what a pint-sized punch she has when she comes face to face with her creator.

As it happens, the filmmakers set their heart on Katy Perry for the role even before she spoke a single line of dialogue. “They had done a blind test where they took certain voices from previous interviews and matched them with the character,” Katy explains. “They liked my voice without even knowing who it was, and when they found out it was me, they thought that would work out. My personality was just a plus!

Katy found an affinity with the character she plays. “They asked me to add my nuance to it – so I was able to be sassy and cute, a little mischievous and funny,” she says. “It’s really interesting, because I got to be a part of creating her character. It’s really fun – it’s basically my voice with some rocks thrown in it, like I had too many cups of coffee.”

Katy says that making the transition from world-famous recording artist to voiceover actress was an organic next step. “I use my voice every single day,” she explains, “and I feel very cartoony at times, just in the way I present myself. So It was a natural progression – something natural for me to do.

Katy Perry's 2008 multi-platinum debut album “One Of The Boys” generated four massive hit singles – “I Kissed A Girl,” “Hot N Cold,” “Thinking of You,” and “Waking Up In Vegas” – while her 2010 follow-up “Teenage Dream” has already generated four #1 hit singles – “California Gurls,” “Teenage Dream,” “Firework,” and “E.T.” – a feat so rare that it’s only the ninth album in the 52-year history of the Billboard charts to achieve it. “Teenage Dream” also became the first album to have a single in the Top 10 for an entire year!

During the same period, Katy became one of the hottest concert attractions, with a year-long International Tour of sold-out arenas, including over 60 cities in North America during summer and fall of 2011.

Katy Perry was born on the internet, and now lives on buses and airplanes.

Opening across the Philippines on August 10, “The Smurfs” is distributed by Columbia Pictures, local office of Sony Pictures Releasing International. Visit to see the latest trailers, get free downloads and play free movie games.

TV5, MMDA Provide Motorists a Better Way to View Traffic Situation via Metro Manila Traffic Navigator

On August 1, TV5 and MMDA launched the easiest and most effective way to view the traffic situation in Metro Manila’s major thoroughfares—the Metro Manila Traffic Navigator. TV5's five-month old online news portal,, powers up the site that can be accessed via, or

The Metro Manila Traffic Navigator is the country’s first ever digitized traffic information system that lets motorists and commuters view the traffic situation around the Metro in real-time over the Internet. Conceived in line with President Aquino’s call for Public-Private Partnership (PPP) projects, the traffic navigator empowers people with information and technology and gives them an instant control - not just over traffic, but over their hours and lives.

The Traffic Navigator provides the public an instant overview of the traffic situation in the metropolis. People at home, in the office or on the road can check out the traffic along six major roads: EDSA, C5, Quezon Avenue, Espana, Roxas Boulevard and South Luzon Expressway (SLEx) via system view, line view or on Google Maps. The MMDA Metro Base updates the situation for no less than 67 intersections every 5 to 15 minutes.

At the Traffic Navigator’s media launch, TV5 also announced the future release of’s iPad and iPhone app, which will come bundled with easy, instant access to the Traffic Navigator.

Following the release of its public beta version last June 29, at least 6,000 drivers and commuters have been using the TV5-MMDA Traffic Navigator everyday.

Executed by the all-Filipino cutting-edge web design team, Stray Interactive, the Traffic Navigator’s information design is easy to understand and gives users access to the macro and detailed views of the traffic situation. Online users can also share the traffic situation via Twitter or Facebook with just a click of an icon.

Regardless of the operating system, the Traffic Navigator will run and is optimized for any PC-based or mobile browser. It will run on Wintel computers, Macs, Linux machines, iPhones, iPads, Android phones, Windows Mobile, Opera, and any web browser already installed on mobile gadgets.

Presented in a graphically logical and pleasing format, the Traffic Navigator represents the major roads similar to how subway routes are presented in New York, London and Tokyo; and reports the traffic situation in fast and very simple manner.

Moving forward, the Metro Manila Traffic Navigator will soon cater to other motorists’ concerns and will cover more roads in its monitoring. Other tools and features relevant to every Filipino on the road are already in the works.

Owen Wilson Steers “Cars 2” to Fun Adventure

Making the car characters in Disney/Pixar’s new animated adventure “Cars 2” come alive requires a masterful blend of great vocal performances and top animation talents. Owen Wilson and Larry the Cable Guy reprise their starring vocal roles as Lightning McQueen and Mater, and Michael Caine and Emily Mortimer make their Pixar vocal debut as British spy cars Finn McMissile and Holley Shiftwell, while John Turturro sounds off as Francesco Bernoulli.

We have terrific actors,” says producer Denise Ream, “and they obviously make the animators’ lives a lot easier with their performances.”

While publicizing “Cars” in 2006, Owen Wilson (“Marley & Me,” “Hall Pass”) attended the Grand Prix in Spain with director John Lasseter. “The spectacle and the sound of Formula 1 racing is something unbelievable,” says Wilson. “I also became somewhat of a racing fan after meeting some of the NASCAR racers on the first film.”

Wilson says Lightning McQueen has grown up a little in “Cars 2” but still has his racing edge. “When the movie begins, I’m happy just to be in Radiator Springs, and I get to spend time with Sally and everyone,” he says. “The big change for my character is that he’s learned his lesson in the first film. He’s now a lot more grounded, but Francesco [Bernoulli] gets him stirred up and back into the competitive mode.”

Francesco isn’t the only one who stirs up Lightning. “Mater is like one of those overgrown puppies that you love and has such loyalty and love,” says Wilson. “But he kind of drives me crazy too. His heart’s in the right place, but in trying to help, he just creates more chaos.”

Growing up in Texas, Wilson says “I’ve always had some sort of a love affair with cars. As a kid, I’d make up a list—if you could have five cars, what would they be? I love Aston Martins and the DeLorean from `Back to the Future’ and Ferraris—from the ’50s especially—are really amazing. I drive a Prius, but maybe that’s not as exciting as some of those cars.

In “Cars 2,” star racecar Lightning McQueen and his best friend, the incomparable tow truck Mater jump-start a new adventure to exotic new lands stretching across the globe.

The duo are joined by a hometown pit crew from Radiator Springs when they head overseas to support Lightning as he competes in the first-ever World Grand Prix, a race created to determine the world’s fastest car. But the road to the finish line is filled with plenty of potholes, detours and bombshells when Mater is mistakenly ensnared in an intriguing escapade of his own: international espionage.

Opening across the Philippines on August 24 in IMAX 3D, Digital 3D and regular format, “Cars 2” is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures International through Columbia Pictures.

Half Dome Death in 2011 Sum-ups to 14

Half Dome Tragedy (SFGate) - A 26-year-old San Ramon woman plummeted 600 feet to her death Sunday while climbing the perilous summit cables on Yosemite National Park's Half Dome amid stormy, wet weather.

It was the 14th fatality this year in the sprawling wilderness full of towering cliffs and thundering waterfalls. Hayley LaFlamme, her sister and two friends had reached the top of the colossal escarpment and were just past the midpoint of the descent around noon when LaFlamme apparently slipped and lost her grip on the cables. She slid and tumbled down the nearly vertical granite slope to the rocks below. Search teams recovered her body later that day.

Park officials said a ranger at the base of the dome was checking the required hiking permits and warning visitors to avoid the treacherous climb, which is so steep in the last 400 feet that hikers must haul themselves up along thick metal cables to the summit.

LaFlamme and her companions were among about two dozen people who decided Sunday to brave the slick granite, which had been pounded by thunderstorms that morning. It wasn't clear Monday how many of the 20 or so other hikers on the world-famous outcropping, which rises 8,800 feet above sea level, witnessed the fall.

"The ranger told people that the weather was bad and not to go up the cables," said Kari Cobb, spokeswoman for Yosemite. "But ultimately it is the visitor's decision whether they want to take that risk."

GMA Network Consolidated Revenues in Q2 Soar 14% to P3.587-B Versus Q1

GMA Network, Inc. (GMA) showed strong momentum in the first half of 2011 as it improved regular advertising revenues and nationwide ratings—the industry players’ two most important performance indicators—quarter-on-quarter.

Given GMA’s sustained nationwide dominance since the start of the year, GMA posted a 14 percent increase worth P449 million in consolidated revenues to P3.587 billion in the second quarter from the previous quarter’s P3.138 billion.

Airtime revenues across all platforms were on the uptrend due to the outstanding program performance on television and radio.

Top performing business unit Channel 7 delivered P3.093 billion worth of revenues, 14 percent higher than the amount earned during the first quarter, while newly launched all-news channel 11 GMA News TV (GNTV) made 30 percent more revenues at P58 million.

GMA Regional TV (RTV), on account of stronger programming and aggressive promotional efforts in the regions, recorded a 38 percent increase in its top line contribution at P46 million, while GMA Radio generated P97 million, 15 percent higher than the amount made in the January to March period.

GMA International, which continues to widen the Network’s reach overseas, made P239 million during the second quarter, four percent up from the previous quarter’s P230 million—despite the appreciation of the peso versus GMA International’s foreign-denominated revenues. This is due to GMA’s unrelenting expansion and subscriber generation and retention efforts that won over 279,000 subscribers for flagship international channel GMA Pinoy TV (GPTV) and 121,000 subscribers for GMA Life TV (GLTV).

The figures translate to an estimated 1.85 million viewers for GPTV and one million viewers for GLTV. The GMA International channels remained competitive with robust subscriber take-up despite the prolonged US recession and the weak demand for subscription in some parts of the Middle East and in Japan during the period. Several countries in the Middle East were rocked by political turmoil, while northeastern Japan was devastated by an earthquake and tsunami during the period.

GMA International’s linear channels continued to penetrate new markets in key Filipino-American hubs in the US, namely New Jersey, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Maryland and Washington DC. They were also launched in many parts of Detroit, Hawaii and upstate New York and New England. Elsewhere, the channels were also launched by additional carriers in Australia and Papua New Guinea.

GMA International recently started distributing its third channel, the international edition of GMA News TV (GNTV). Fresh from its launch this July, GNTV International is now airing in Japan, Australia, Guam, and Papua New Guinea and will soon expand distribution to key markets in the Middle East and North America to better serve expatriate Filipinos hungry for news from home.

On the other hand, GMA’s syndication sales and acquisition arm, GMA Worldwide, Inc. (GWI), reported P8 million worth of revenues this second quarter on strong sales in China, Nigeria, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, and Cambodia.

Along with the double digit growth in gross revenues for the second quarter, total operating expenses (OPEX) grew 16 percent as the Company set a higher programming benchmark especially for primetime productions, namely, Amaya and Captain Barbell.

Meanwhile, general and administrative expenses (GAEX) were up by 12 percent to P1.022 billion mainly on account of higher personnel cost and extensive nationwide promotional campaigns.

In all, the Company’s net income after taxes for the second quarter is at P521 million. At the end of the semester, GMA posted P1.055 billion net.

GMA Network Chairman and CEO Atty. Felipe L. Gozon said the Company remains focused in achieving the 2011 target and sustaining its nationwide ratings dominance. “I am confident that GMA will deliver even much better performances in both ratings and revenues in the second half of 2011. In the opening of the second semester this July, GMA increased revenues by over one third of the amount made last year and pulled further away in nationwide ratings versus ABS-CBN,” he said.

As GMA proceeds with its multi-million-peso project to upgrade its signal and facilities and increased promotional efforts in the regions, the Network registered better ratings performance relative to competitor ABS-CBN nationwide. This is according to the household data surveyed by Nielsen TV Audience Measurement—the broadcast industry’s most trusted ratings service provider.

The Nielsen TV Audience Measurement used by GMA is used by 21 companies including two other local networks, namely, TV5 and Solar Entertainment; Faulkner Media; CBN Asia; 13 advertising agencies and three regional clients. On the other hand, ABS-CBN is the only major local TV network reportedly subscribing to Kantar Media, formerly known as TNS.

In Mega Manila alone, the Nielsen TV Audience Measurement has a sample size of 880 homes as compared to Kantar Media’s 770 homes. Nationwide, Nielsen has a total sample size of 2,005 homes compared to the lower sample size of 1,370 utilized by Kantar Media.

For the second quarter of 2011, GMA maintained its lead in National Urban Television Audience Measurement (NUTAM) household audience shares as it finished the period with 32.4 points versus ABS-CBN’s 32.3—a strong performance given that for the same period in 2010, ABS-CBN was ahead of GMA by double digits. TV5, meanwhile, was locked in third place for the said period with only 15.2 share points.

In Urban Luzon, which makes up 77 percent of total television households nationwide, GMA was ahead by 8.4 household share points with 36 points versus ABS-CBN’s 27.6 during the April to June period; while TV5 was 19.4 points away from GMA as it managed only 16.6 points—still not enough to match GMA’s performance even if the figure is doubled.

In viewer-rich Mega Manila, which makes up 58 percent of total television households nationwide, GMA comfortably sat in the number one ranking with a 10.5-point gap in household shares with 36.8 points versus ABS-CBN’s 26.3 points. TV5 scored only 17.4 points.

Nielsen translates one rating point in NUTAM to 90,890 households and 421,530 viewers. In Urban Luzon, one rating point equals 69,700 households and 320,350 individuals; while in Mega Manila, one rating point is equivalent to 52,470 households and 239,070 individuals.

For partial July (July 1 to 28; July 24 to 28 based on overnight data), GMA further stretched its nationwide lead over ABS-CBN to 2.9 points with 34.4 household share points as against 31.5 points; and to 19 points versus TV5′s 15.4 points. Based on an estimated five viewers per household, the gaps translate to almost 500,000 more viewers from all over the country who favored GMA over ABS-CBN; and 3.5 million viewers who watched GMA instead of TV5.

Ronnie Brown Signs Deal with Philadelphia Eagles

Ronnie Brown, former Dolphins running back, signed a one-year deal with Philadelphia Eagles on Tuesday.

Brown's main goal is to fulfill the team's need for a veteran ball carrier and back up the team's halfback LeSean McCoy.

A tough runner with smooth hands out of the backfield and excellent in blitz pick-up, Brown is tailor made for coach Andy Reid's offense and can be another impact weapon if he stays healthy.

He averaged 4.3 yards per carry in his six-year Miami career and caught 184 passes for 1,491 yards. Injuries earlier in his career forced him into a co-starring role for the past three seasons with Ricky Williams.

Brown, picked No. 2 overall by the Dolphins in 2005, trails only Larry Czonka and Williams in Miami franchise history for rushing yards with 4,815 yards.

In 2008, Brown spearheaded the Dolphins' wildcat reprisal and rushed for 916 yards and 10 touchdowns while catching 33 passes for 254 yards to make the Pro Bowl.

He became the fifth player with Pro Bowl experience to join the Eagles since the league year started last week as Reid makes his strongest offseason push yet to assemble a Super Bowl champion.

Vladimir Putin Attacks the United States

Vladimir Putin, Russia's Prime Minister, attacks the United State and accused them of being a 'parasite' in the global economy.

Putin also said that the U.S. was living beyond its means 'like a parasite' and said dollar dominance was a threat to the financial markets.

"They are living beyond their means and shifting a part of the weight of their problems to the world economy," the PM told the pro-Kremlin youth group Nashi while touring its lakeside summer camp some five hours drive north of Moscow.

"They are living like parasites off the global economy and their monopoly of the dollar," Putin said at the open-air meeting with admiring young Russians in what looked like early campaigning before parliamentary and presidential polls.

The remarks from Russia - one of the world's strongest emerging markets - comes amid speculation that the struggling U.S. will have its AAA credit rating downgraded this week.

Steve Carell Tries to Win Back Wife in ‘Crazy, Stupid, Love’

From a first crush to a crushing breakup and everything in between, relationships are the focus of Warner Bros.’ “Crazy, Stupid, Love” - a coming-of-every-age comedy.

In addition to how funny it was, I really liked the movie’s theme of true love, that there is a soulmate for every person, and that you should be willing to fight for that person no matter what,” says Steve Carell, who plays lead character, Cal. “If love doesn’t conquer all, it conquers most things, and thanks to the resilience of the human heart, we can find a way to make it work, to find that love again, or a different love. The spirit of the story is very hopeful and very sweet.”

In the film, after 25 years of marriage, Cal’s wife, Emily (Julianne Moore), suddenly asks him for a divorce, revealing she’s had an affair. For suburban insurance man Cal, who apparently hasn’t paid much attention to his wife - or his life - lately, the news comes completely out of left field, setting him on a road to discover just where he might’ve left the man he used to be. The first stop on that path: drowning his sorrows in fruity cocktails sipped from tiny straws at a local bar, where he sticks out like the poor schlub he’s become.

Up until that very moment, Cal is happy and content in his marriage, so he is totally blindsided by Emily’s declaration,” affirms Carell. “It completely catches him off-guard, and he can’t really think. He needs to reevaluate his entire life, and figure out what he’s going to do. Is he just going to give up? Is he going to get back out there? I mean, this is a guy who’s been married for many, many years.”

Cal gets help reinventing himself from an unexpected and, at first, unwelcome source, the very single, very self-assured Jacob Palmer, played by Ryan Gosling. Unbeknownst to Cal, the dashing local playboy has been watching him bore the bartender with his sob story night after night.

Asked what was it like to work with Ryan Gosling, Carell beams, “I think we got along right off the bat. He’s such a good person. I knew going in that he was a good actor, but you have no barometer for what someone’s going to be like in real life. And he couldn’t have been a kinder, more generous person. I instantly liked him, and I think it helps.

I suppose you can act those sort of things, but it helps when you genuinely like and care for someone,” Carell adds. “I think it’s clearly more organic, and we just had fun. Ryan’s a funny guy. He’s a great improviser. He’s completely open to experiment and be playful, which is how I like to work. So, if there is a chemistry, I feel like it was real, because we became friends.

Carell, who’s also one of the film’s producers, thinks the story of “Crazy, Stupid, Love” is so universal, it will resonate with all kinds of people. “I think the idea of love in its many forms is a very universal sort of theme. It’s hard to describe this movie as a love story, because I think it’s so much more than that. I think people usually think of love stories as purely a romantic love between a man and a woman, and this movie is about that. But it’s also about friendships and the love inherent there, a love between a family. So, I think it connects to people because it seems genuine. It doesn’t seem to push or force, and without being too precious with it, seems to represent these different relationships and how they weave into one another in an organic way.”

He concludes, “It’s something that, as a producer and an actor, I think the directors and the writer, all of us, really were cautious to not make this an overly precious movie but a fun one and a realistic one. I think people connect with ideas when they don’t feel as though they’re being manipulated, and that’s something we all strove to do.”

Opening across the Philippines on Aug. 17, “Crazy, Stupid, Love” is distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

“The Beaver” – Jodie Foster's Acclaimed Film on Hope, Healing

Jodie Foster's performances in “The Accused” and “The Silence of the Lambs” earned her two Academy Awards® for Best Actress and a reputation as one of the most critically acclaimed actresses of her generation. Now, she directs a full-length film for the third time – Summit Entertainment's “The Beaver,” an emotional story about a man on a journey to re-discover his family and re-start his life. The critically acclaimed film will be shown exclusively at Ayala Mall Cinemas (Glorietta 4, Greenbelt 3 and Trinoma) starting August 10.

In the film, Walter Black (Mel Gibson) was once a successful toy executive and family man who now suffers from depression. No matter what he tries, Walter can’t seem to get himself back on track…until a beaver hand puppet enters his life. Emerging from what had seemed like a terminal stupor, he begins speaking through the hand puppet, at first to himself, then to everyone else.

I think there are many genuine examples in our culture over and over again where people will don a different personality, split themselves, in order to cope with an overwhelming situation,” Foster explains. “We see that in everyday life, that there are things you know you just can’t face, so you find a way to cope.”

Because of her deep connection to the material, Foster realized that she wanted to play the role of Meredith, Walter's wife. She was, however, unsure of Mel’s reaction. So she went in person to his house to break the news and see if he was comfortable with it. Gibson was delighted.

It’s always great,” he says. “I worked with her once before and I really dug it. She’s always there if you need a friend. So I was happy to work closely with her again.”

Meredith buys into Walter as the beaver because of how much she loves her younger son Henry and how worried she is about him,” shares Foster. “Henry’s been in a shell, socially withdrawn. When the beaver comes along he comes alive and begs his mother to allow the beaver to remain part of their lives. It’s plausible that a mother would do anything to see her child thrive.

Porter, the teenage son is the only character who refuses to buy into the beaver, going so far as to tell his younger sibling the beaver isn’t real. Porter’s basically appalled by his father’s behavior as most 17 year-olds would be. He’s desperately afraid of becoming like his father.

Porter’s main goal is to avoid being like Walter and, in general, to avoid having any sort of personality for fear that he will be just like him after all,” says Anton Yelchin who plays the part. “In a way he’s trying to shut himself down. But of course he and his father are similar in ways that it kills Porter to acknowledge.”

Foster concludes, “It’s easy to think of `The Beaver' as a story about a guy who puts a puppet on his hand but it’s also equally a tale of a son who is so like his father, but wishes he wasn’t.”
